Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
• 0:07
  Speaker 2: What's up, everybody?
• 0:07
Speaker 1: Welcome to move the sticks DJ, Buck with you on
• 0:11
Speaker 1: a Monday in December, Buck, where the weather is cool.
• 0:14
Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you, I forgot going to Atlanta.
• 0:17
Speaker 1: I don't know why I've got this in my mind
• 0:18
Speaker 1: that Atlanta's warm this time. Here off the plane, the
• 0:22
Speaker 1: charters are like, whoa, it's football weather out here. I think, God,
• 0:25
Speaker 1: this game's endorsed. How you doing, Bud Man?
• 0:28
Speaker 3: I am good. It was a great holiday weekend.
• 0:31
Speaker 4: It was really watching a bunch of football.
• 0:32
Speaker 5: We're going to get into some of the robberies and
• 0:34
Speaker 5: college football that showed up and you just love all
• 0:37
Speaker 5: of that stuff about college football, but then also some
• 0:40
Speaker 5: very compelling NFL games that I think there are a lot.
• 0:43
Speaker 4: Of lessons to be learned from those.
• 0:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt. We're going to get to the NFL
• 0:47
Speaker 1: here in a minute. We've got a head coaching change
• 0:50
Speaker 1: that we will tackle as well. But I do want
• 0:52
Speaker 1: to start with your take on what took place college football.
• 0:55
  Speaker 2: Over the weekend.
• 0:56
Speaker 1: Some crazy games man in saying all the fighting and
• 0:59
Speaker 1: the flag and all that stuff that's already been hit
• 1:02
Speaker 1: on by every show under the Suns. I don't even
• 1:05
Speaker 1: really care about that. We can leave that alone. But
• 1:07
Speaker 1: just biggest takeaways. I want to start first of Ohio
• 1:10
Speaker 1: State Michigan and let you know how fun it is
• 1:13
Speaker 1: to walk into a team meal room and see Jesse
• 1:17
Speaker 1: Mentor sitting next to Joey Bosa sitting next to Jim
• 1:20
Speaker 1: Harbaugh while Ohio State and Michigan is coming down to
• 1:24
Speaker 1: the close. That was I just sat in there. I
• 1:26
Speaker 1: wasn't even at some point time, I'm not even watching
• 1:28
Speaker 1: the game. I just want to see if there's any
• 1:30
Speaker 1: interaction there that was taking place.
• 1:32
Speaker 2: But it was a trip.
• 1:34
Speaker 3: I think that game.
• 1:35
Speaker 5: I think that game captures all of the stuff that
• 1:38
Speaker 5: we love about college football. Go to records out two
• 1:41
Speaker 5: teams that really don't like each other, like there's a
• 1:43
Speaker 5: real rivalry. Anyone who has had an opportunity to go
• 1:45
Speaker 5: to that game and to walk into that game in
• 1:48
Speaker 5: the field, the disdain that Ohio State fans have for Michigan.
• 1:51
Speaker 4: Fans, like that is a real thing.
• 1:53
Speaker 5: And then when you go into the stadium and you
• 1:55
Speaker 5: feel the energy between the two participants, you know is real.
• 1:59
Speaker 4: But to me in spite of all the contentiousness.
• 2:02
Speaker 5: The compatitiveness, the acrimony that exists between the two teams.
• 2:06
Speaker 5: Styles make fights, and there is a confidence that a
• 2:10
Speaker 5: team that prides itself on being the bully always has
• 2:13
Speaker 5: when they've had success over a team that Deybut as
• 2:15
Speaker 5: a finesse squad, you can talk about being a tough team,
• 2:19
Speaker 5: but your actions must match your words, and for the
• 2:21
Speaker 5: Michigan Wolverines, their actions match their words, particularly in big games.
• 2:26
Speaker 5: They ran the football, they played great defense with Wink Mardell.
• 2:29
Speaker 5: Regardless of their quarterback situation, they committed to a style
• 2:33
Speaker 5: that is their brand, and over time you could feel
• 2:36
Speaker 5: the pressure shift from Michigan to Ohio State.
• 2:39
Speaker 4: Why is this game close?
• 2:41
Speaker 3: Why are they still here?
• 2:42
Speaker 5: They're not supposed to be as good. We're supposed to
• 2:43
Speaker 5: walk all over them. Everyone said that we're superior to
• 2:46
Speaker 5: this team. But the physicality and toughness never goes out
• 2:50
Speaker 5: of style, and their ability to punch for higher state
• 2:53
Speaker 5: in the mouth is something that our higher state's gonna
• 2:55
Speaker 5: have to deal with for years because there's a confidence
• 2:57
Speaker 5: that Michigan has whenever they see a team.
• 3:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, I felt and look our buddy Joe Klatt listened
• 3:04
Speaker 1: to the game. I thought he was nailing the central point,
• 3:07
Speaker 1: which was Ohio State, Like, why are you playing into
• 3:10
Speaker 1: their hands? Like Michigan is missing the corner. Will Johnson's
• 3:14
Speaker 1: not playing Loveland, the tight ends not playing. So who
• 3:16
Speaker 1: are their best two remaining football players. It's those two
• 3:19
Speaker 1: defensive tackles, and you decide you want to get into
• 3:22
Speaker 1: a running contest running into their two best players the
• 3:25
Speaker 1: entire game. I know Ohio States got backs and against
• 3:28
Speaker 1: some teams unleash those backs. Not this one, this one.
• 3:31
Speaker 1: They are not good on the outside. I saw Oregon.
• 3:34
Speaker 1: I was at the Oregon Michigan game. Oregon carved him up.
• 3:37
  Speaker 2: Like a turkey.
• 3:38
Speaker 1: And I'm sitting here looking at this Ohio State collection
• 3:40
Speaker 1: of whiteouts going to nobody's better than these guys, the
• 3:43
Speaker 1: best group of whiteouts in the country. That's where this
• 3:45
Speaker 1: game needs to be played. It kind of felt like,
• 3:48
Speaker 1: I don't know the right way to put it. I
• 3:51
Speaker 1: guess we can't say it. I can't say it on here,
• 3:53
Speaker 1: but it was like they were trying to measure up
• 3:56
Speaker 1: to put it that way in their physical yeah, like
• 4:00
Speaker 1: we're just we're going to be tough for th you like, No,
• 4:02
Speaker 1: there's other teams will match up and we'll out tough them.
• 4:04
Speaker 1: We don't need to out tough Michigan. That's who they are.
• 4:07
Speaker 1: We're going to out athlete them as every other team
• 4:09
Speaker 1: that's beat them this year is done.
• 4:10
Speaker 4: And that's the thing. And so the big thing.
• 4:13
Speaker 3: About robbery games and you played in them in college.
• 4:15
Speaker 5: I played in them in college, and then the pros like,
• 4:17
Speaker 5: the thing that you have to do is you got
• 4:19
Speaker 5: to get your pride out of it, and your emotion
• 4:23
Speaker 5: has to kind of wave to your execution, meaning execution
• 4:29
Speaker 5: is everything. And for Michigan, they were hell bent on
• 4:32
Speaker 5: running the football between the tackles. They wanted to shrink
• 4:34
Speaker 5: the game, they wanted to get the game on their terms.
• 4:36
Speaker 5: And I bet if you asked Sharon Moore before the game,
• 4:39
Speaker 5: he would probably tell you, our goal is to get
• 4:41
Speaker 5: it to the fourth quarter and make it become a
• 4:43
Speaker 5: fifteen minute game because the pressure would jump.
• 4:45
Speaker 4: On Ohio State in a major way. And that's what happened.
• 4:49
Speaker 5: They were able to control the game, they were able
• 4:51
Speaker 5: to get it the game played on.
• 4:53
Speaker 4: Their terms, and in the end, when guys needed to
• 4:56
Speaker 4: make plays, Michigan made more plays.
• 4:58
Speaker 1: Than OURIO State, and you see it on the screen
• 5:01
Speaker 1: as we're talking here about the post game drama.
• 5:04
Speaker 2: There was plenty of it players.
• 5:06
Speaker 1: I'm watching it live, and I think those guys got mazed,
• 5:09
Speaker 1: like looking at them in like rubbing their eyes and stuff.
• 5:11
Speaker 1: I was like, I've never seen anything like That's insane.
• 5:14
Speaker 1: That's another topic for another day. I don't know that
• 5:16
Speaker 1: that needs to ever get to that point.
• 5:17
  Speaker 5: That's ridiculous, but I think, but see, and here's here's
• 5:20
Speaker 5: what I will say.
• 5:21
Speaker 4: Because I love the robbery games, I love all of
• 5:23
Speaker 4: that stuff that comes with it. But I also believe
• 5:26
Speaker 4: that at some point we're going to.
• 5:28
Speaker 5: Have to discuss the sportsmanship element of games, because everyone
• 5:33
  Speaker 5: wants to see.
• 5:33
Speaker 3: Guys like play really hard and then.
• 5:35
Speaker 5: Shake hands and those things, and I just don't know
• 5:38
Speaker 5: if that is a reality in today's game. And as
• 5:40
Speaker 5: much as I want young people to be able to
• 5:42
Speaker 5: play and compete at the highest level and compete harder
• 5:45
Speaker 5: then shake their hands, I think in some of these
• 5:48
Speaker 5: instances we got to wave off the handshake and everyone,
• 5:51
Speaker 5: hey man, y'all can come.
• 5:52
Speaker 4: To the numbers, wave at each other and then we're out.
• 5:54
  Speaker 4: Because what I.
• 5:55
Speaker 5: Don't want to see is someone seriously get hurt over
• 5:58
Speaker 5: something as stupid as flag planning and those things. The
• 6:01
Speaker 5: other thing that I would say, when you're to winning team,
• 6:04
Speaker 5: hey man, you already know what kind of.
• 6:06
Speaker 4: Lightning rod the flag planning is going to bring about.
• 6:10
Speaker 4: As the coach, you got to say, hey, guys, knock that.
• 6:12
Speaker 5: I we're not doing that, like like, knock it off,
• 6:15
Speaker 5: like you just know what you're getting.
• 6:16
  Speaker 4: Don't don't participate it.
• 6:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's ridiculous.
• 6:20
Speaker 1: And yeah, look I don't mind the woofing in the
• 6:22
Speaker 1: bark and all that kind of stuff, but like, yeah,
• 6:24
  Speaker 1: let's let's let's leave it at that.
• 6:26
Speaker 2: And then let's move forward. We don't need any more
• 6:27
  Speaker 2: than that.
• 6:28
Speaker 1: But that was That was the big college football moment
• 6:31
Speaker 1: to me of the weekend, even though Texas, Texas, A
• 6:33
Speaker 1: and M had the most writing on it in terms
• 6:35
Speaker 1: of getting into the SEC championship game and maybe an
• 6:38
Speaker 1: elimination game for A and m. Uh just big picture
• 6:42
Speaker 1: quickly on that one. I mean, I think it's okay
• 6:45
Speaker 1: if we give Sark his flowers to jump into the
• 6:47
Speaker 1: big bad SEC and put himself in position to win it.
• 6:50
Speaker 5: Year one, I'm gonna say a couple of things about Sark.
• 6:54
Speaker 5: I think Sark has probably the perfect pedigree to.
• 6:57
Speaker 4: Be a coach that has staying power at the top
• 6:59
  Speaker 4: of the charts.
• 7:00
Speaker 5: His experiences with two guys that are great legendary coaches,
• 7:03
Speaker 5: Pete Carroll, who is about the players first, it's fun,
• 7:07
Speaker 5: it's dynamic, it's engaging, and then Nick Saban, who is
• 7:11
Speaker 5: more buttoned up, more militaristic, but extremely successful. Sark has
• 7:16
Speaker 5: been able to take the both take the best things
• 7:19
Speaker 5: of each of those programs and use it and blend
• 7:22
Speaker 5: it within his own personality to make Texas a monster again.
• 7:26
Speaker 5: And when you look at Texas size wise, they stack
• 7:29
Speaker 5: up to how Alabama and those teams were at their
• 7:33
Speaker 5: heyday on the Nick Saban, but they also have a
• 7:36
Speaker 5: fun energy, electricity that reminds you when USC was kind
• 7:40
Speaker 5: of like a rock and roll band traveling all over
• 7:42
  Speaker 5: the country.
• 7:43
Speaker 4: Sark has done a great job of putting it together.
• 7:46
Speaker 5: And man, I can't wait to see the SEC Championship
• 7:48
Speaker 5: game between them and Georgia because Georgia may not be
• 7:52
Speaker 5: what they were, but man, their grittiness, their toughness, their competitiveness.
• 7:57
Speaker 4: Is going to make it a hard day for Texas.
• 8:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, that was an insane game. Eight overtimes. Sitting there
• 8:04
Speaker 1: watching this thing and every time, this will be it,
• 8:06
Speaker 1: this will be it, this will be it. And then
• 8:08
Speaker 1: both teams just punching back and eventually Georgia outlasts a
• 8:11
Speaker 1: very feisty Georgia Tech team. But anyways, a fun, fun
• 8:14
Speaker 1: weekend at college football. We get to the NFL side
• 8:16
Speaker 1: of things here, Buck, I want to start. First of all,
• 8:18
Speaker 1: we're going to roll through these games here Chicago Detroit.
• 8:21
Speaker 1: Not so much about the finish of that ball game.
• 8:23
Speaker 1: It's been well discussed that just they just massive failure.
• 8:27
Speaker 1: And if you want to blame head coach, offensive coordinator, quarterback,
• 8:31
Speaker 1: you can probably share that. But unfortunately for Matt Eberflus
• 8:35
Speaker 1: was not something he could survive. He gets let go
• 8:37
Speaker 1: after their sixth straight loss and many in heartbreaking fashion
• 8:41
Speaker 1: during this run here.
• 8:42
Speaker 2: But let's look forward.
• 8:43
Speaker 1: I saw Kevin Warren, their president, came out and said
• 8:46
Speaker 1: this will be the most coveted job. A. You buying that?
• 8:50
Speaker 1: And B is there anybody that jumps to mine that
• 8:52
  Speaker 1: would make sense?
• 8:53
  Speaker 2: There?
• 8:55
Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I think the job is coveted because
• 8:57
Speaker 5: it's a bluebood franchise in Chicago. If he brings Chicago back,
• 9:00
  Speaker 5: you're a legend because they haven't won at a high
• 9:02
  Speaker 5: level consistently.
• 9:04
Speaker 4: Like you would think a franchise that was originated and
• 9:07
Speaker 4: created by George Hollis would do.
• 9:09
Speaker 5: What you have is you have some intriguing pieces, but
• 9:12
Speaker 5: I think you have to build a brand and identity.
• 9:14
Speaker 4: And as much as I like Caleb Williams.
• 9:17
Speaker 3: And I like the thought of like, oh, we're going
• 9:19
Speaker 3: to throw it around.
• 9:19
Speaker 5: The yard and we'll build around the franchise quarterback, I
• 9:22
Speaker 5: think you can attest to the importance of toughness and
• 9:26
Speaker 5: discipline and attention to detail in an organization and team.
• 9:29
Speaker 4: To me, I think the candidate.
• 9:30
Speaker 5: That everyone is going to chase is Ben Johnson because
• 9:32
Speaker 5: you not only want his creativity when it comes to
• 9:35
Speaker 5: the offense, you want some of the nuggets that have
• 9:37
Speaker 5: been gleaned from his time in Detroit and building a
• 9:40
Speaker 5: rough and tumble squad.
• 9:41
Speaker 4: Chicago has to be about that. They got to be about.
• 9:44
Speaker 5: Toughness and discipline and all of that stuff because that
• 9:47
Speaker 5: city is a tough one, and I think the only
• 9:49
Speaker 5: way you earn the respect of the city is to
• 9:50
Speaker 5: build a franchise and a team that reflects the city.
• 9:53
Speaker 4: And some of that has to do with the toughness
• 9:55
Speaker 4: and the physicality of that overall team.
• 9:58
Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean that's why you know, you're to hear
• 10:00
Speaker 2: a lot of talk.
• 10:00
Speaker 1: You don't get to get an offensive guy to come
• 10:03
Speaker 1: in here that's not going to leave, so you can
• 10:06
Speaker 1: build a system around Caleb Williams and you're not going
• 10:09
Speaker 1: to have the key voice of that system to depart.
• 10:12
Speaker 1: I mean, I still think everybody is they do almost
• 10:14
Speaker 1: every year. You're trying to chase Sean McVay. I mean,
• 10:16
Speaker 1: everybody's trying to find that. A lot of people have
• 10:18
Speaker 1: gone to that tree to try and find the next
• 10:20
Speaker 1: one because McVeigh has been able to bring you the
• 10:24
Speaker 1: innovation and the creativity, the motions, the shifts, the dynamic,
• 10:28
Speaker 1: you know, schemes and being on the cutting edge. But
• 10:31
Speaker 1: Bucky hasn't lost the physicality of it either. You know,
• 10:34
Speaker 1: he's got a physical edge to it.
• 10:36
  Speaker 4: Now.
• 10:36
Speaker 1: I know we'll get to the Rams later and they're
• 10:38
Speaker 1: you know, not having the best season, but I think
• 10:41
  Speaker 1: that's that's kind of what they're they're chasing here. I
• 10:44
Speaker 1: will say, you know, find the head coach is going
• 10:47
Speaker 1: to be huge, but getting three, at least three upgrades
• 10:51
Speaker 1: along that offensive line might be equally as important. And
• 10:53
Speaker 1: that's going to be the role for Ryan Poles as
• 10:56
Speaker 1: as they announced he's going to be back and kind
• 10:58
Speaker 1: of help lead this search for a head coach. But
• 11:00
Speaker 1: more importantly, they got to plug some holes on that roster,
• 11:02
Speaker 1: and it starts right there with the offensive line.
• 11:05
Speaker 4: DJ Here's what I would say if I am the
• 11:07
  Speaker 4: Chicago Bears.
• 11:07
Speaker 5: The first thing that I'm doing is I'm thinking about
• 11:09
Speaker 5: how can I build a team to win the division.
• 11:11
Speaker 5: When I look at all the teams that are in
• 11:13
Speaker 5: the division, all the games are tough physical teams. Yeah,
• 11:16
Speaker 5: they're tough, physical teams who are balanced, meaning they can
• 11:19
Speaker 5: run the ball, but they also can throw it.
• 11:21
Speaker 4: All over the yard and do a bunch of different things.
• 11:23
Speaker 5: For me, I will say this, I think Caleb Williams
• 11:26
Speaker 5: has to own some of the shortcomings of the offense.
• 11:29
Speaker 5: I think some of it falls to the coaches to
• 11:31
Speaker 5: make sure that he's in the right system for who
• 11:33
Speaker 5: he is. But I also believe that less is more
• 11:36
Speaker 5: of when it come to Caleb Williams. They need to
• 11:38
Speaker 5: run the football and establish themselves as a physical football
• 11:41
Speaker 5: team who have the ability to do both running with
• 11:44
Speaker 5: for us and throw it all over the yard, but
• 11:46
Speaker 5: efficiency until they become that team, I think Kayla Williams
• 11:50
Speaker 5: is going to have a tough time trying.
• 11:51
Speaker 4: To single hand and we carry this team to great.
• 11:53
  Speaker 2: Yeah, no are.
• 11:54
Speaker 1: They've seen a lot of good from Caleb, especially in
• 11:55
Speaker 1: the second half some of these games and putting them
• 11:57
Speaker 1: in a position to have a chance at it. But still,
• 12:01
Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot to work on, a lot
• 12:02
Speaker 1: to improve there. I think there is something to that
• 12:04
Speaker 1: being a coveted job. It'll be fascinating to see what
• 12:06
Speaker 1: names emerge and maybe they shock everybody and go back
• 12:09
Speaker 1: to the defensive side of the ball. I just I
• 12:11
Speaker 1: can't see that happening. The biggest game to me of
• 12:15
Speaker 1: the weekend in terms of the result and just styles
• 12:18
Speaker 1: make fights. As you always say, Philly in Baltimore.
• 12:21
Speaker 2: That was a slug fest. That was you know, that was.
• 12:25
Speaker 1: Philly coming off of a game against the Rams in
• 12:28
Speaker 1: LA which was a physical game which they beat up
• 12:31
Speaker 1: the Rams. The Ravens had a physical game against the
• 12:35
Speaker 1: Charters where they you could say they beat up the
• 12:37
Speaker 1: Chargers in that game. So heavyweight clash there in Baltimore
• 12:41
Speaker 1: and Lo and Behold, the more physical team won the
• 12:44
Speaker 1: ball game, and the more physical team was.
• 12:45
  Speaker 2: The Philadelphia Eagles.
• 12:46
Speaker 1: We can talk about justin Tucker and miss kicks, and
• 12:49
Speaker 1: that's something they're gonna have to figure out there with
• 12:51
Speaker 1: John Harbaugh, because buck, both these teams are, They're massive,
• 12:54
Speaker 1: you know, they're physical along the line of scrimmage. I
• 12:56
Speaker 1: just thought Philadelphia is more talented along the offensive line
• 12:59
Speaker 1: of the defensive line wise, maybe a little bit of
• 13:02
Speaker 1: a push coming into the game, but even in this ballgame,
• 13:05
Speaker 1: I thought the Eagles defensive front outplayed the Ravens defensive front,
• 13:08
Speaker 1: so it was definitely.
• 13:10
Speaker 2: Going to be a line of scrimmage game.
• 13:11
Speaker 1: And they did not give Lamar Jackson much chance to
• 13:14
Speaker 1: breathe back there in the pocket.
• 13:17
Speaker 5: What's interesting to me is everyone loves to beat up
• 13:20
Speaker 5: on Nick Sirian, but Nick Siriani evidently is a really,
• 13:22
Speaker 5: really good coach, so he finds a way to get
• 13:24
  Speaker 5: it done.
• 13:24
Speaker 4: There are a couple of things that stood out to me.
• 13:26
Speaker 5: One, how he has built this team back from the
• 13:29
Speaker 5: slow start, the challenging star.
• 13:31
Speaker 4: Where everyone was really at him about the.
• 13:33
Speaker 5: Composition of this team and how he worked with that
• 13:35
Speaker 5: relationship with Jalen Hurts and how they subtly have changed
• 13:38
Speaker 5: the offense to look more like the offense that made
• 13:40
Speaker 5: Jalen Hurs an MVP contender.
• 13:42
Speaker 4: When you look at their.
• 13:43
Speaker 5: Running game with Kelling Moore and you have kill them
• 13:45
Speaker 5: Moore a lot of credit. They are very creative in
• 13:47
Speaker 5: their running game, how they run the counter bash schemes,
• 13:50
Speaker 5: and how they run power and physical and downhill and
• 13:53
Speaker 5: using Saquon and Jalen Hurts as two power runners as
• 13:57
Speaker 5: a feature part of this offense is really impressed. But
• 14:00
Speaker 5: it's also having the weapons on the outside in place
• 14:03
Speaker 5: to make it go when people load it up in
• 14:05
Speaker 5: the box. Well constructed offense and then the arrival of
• 14:09
Speaker 5: Big Fangio to upgrade the defense, to challenge a talented
• 14:13
Speaker 5: collection of players to play better, to be more physical,
• 14:16
Speaker 5: to be disciplined. In detail, you're seeing it, and I
• 14:20
Speaker 5: know we have fallen in love with the Detroit Lions.
• 14:22
Speaker 4: By the end of the season.
• 14:23
Speaker 5: Man, we may look up in Philadelphia, the one that
• 14:26
Speaker 5: is represented the NFC in the championship game.
• 14:29
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you talk about two teams that are
• 14:31
Speaker 1: difficult to defend. The Lions. We know with all the
• 14:33
Speaker 1: weapons that they have, but I think Jalen hurts in
• 14:35
Speaker 1: the quarterback run game and the nightmare that you have
• 14:38
Speaker 1: with him and Sakuon Barkley back there. You've got a
• 14:41
Speaker 1: big time tight end, You've got the weapons on the outside.
• 14:44
Speaker 1: You've got a that both have great offensive lines. They're
• 14:47
Speaker 1: big and physical at their nightmare set. The other takeaway
• 14:50
Speaker 1: to me on the defensive side of the ball, we've
• 14:52
Speaker 1: talked about you know Howie Roseman over the years, he
• 14:55
Speaker 1: puts the money in the money positions.
• 14:57
  Speaker 2: It's a line of scrimmage.
• 14:57
Speaker 1: It's quarterback, maybe not some much at running back, maybe
• 15:01
Speaker 1: not so much at linebacker. Well, they go out and
• 15:03
Speaker 1: they get Sakuon, pay him solid money that's paid off
• 15:06
Speaker 1: in a big way. And then how about the value finds.
• 15:08
Speaker 1: You get Na Kobe Dean, who was to me was
• 15:11
Speaker 1: a big time you know player who fell in their
• 15:14
Speaker 1: lap it was a third round. And then Zach Bond
• 15:17
Speaker 1: who they didn't have to pay much money to in
• 15:18
Speaker 1: free agency. Two guys who are crazily instinctive linebackers who
• 15:23
Speaker 1: have just played awesome. They combined for twenty three tackles
• 15:26
Speaker 1: in this game. They have gotten much better at those
• 15:30
Speaker 1: auxiliary positions, so to speak. We knew they're always going
• 15:32
Speaker 1: to be good up front. They've even invested in the
• 15:34
Speaker 1: past at corner. They did a big investment at the
• 15:37
Speaker 1: corner position in the draft this year, but they've they've
• 15:39
Speaker 1: never had a problem paying guys there or investing high picks.
• 15:43
Speaker 1: It's really been kind of Okay, Yeah, they're not really
• 15:44
Speaker 1: gonna pay the the running back's not really gonna pay
• 15:46
Speaker 1: the linebackers for having that philosophy forever. They're pretty darn
• 15:50
Speaker 1: good those two positions right now.
• 15:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, they are really good.
• 15:53
Speaker 4: And look, we dive Harry rosemenislowers a lot.
• 15:58
Speaker 5: But as much as we love to pray the Detrait
• 16:00
Speaker 5: Lions as the model franchise in terms of how to
• 16:03
Speaker 5: build it up, how to make it sustainable, the Philadelphia
• 16:05
Speaker 5: Eagles also fall into that category.
• 16:07
Speaker 4: They're scrimmage players. Their O line D lines, you can
• 16:10
Speaker 4: tell they invest in. You can see the talent because
• 16:12
Speaker 4: it's reflected and the way that they.
• 16:13
Speaker 5: Dominate at the point of attack, the weapons that they
• 16:16
Speaker 5: have around the quarterback. Look, the cost of doing business,
• 16:19
Speaker 5: of the cost of doing business, but they have wide
• 16:21
Speaker 5: receivers in tow but they still understand that the best
• 16:24
Speaker 5: way to play with the quarterback is to use him
• 16:26
Speaker 5: as a runner and on certain selected RPOs and all.
• 16:29
Speaker 4: That other stuff. So to me is pay what you
• 16:32
Speaker 4: need to pay to build a team the way that you.
• 16:34
Speaker 3: Need to build it, but play the game the way
• 16:36
Speaker 3: they need to play.
• 16:37
Speaker 4: It, so your best players.
• 16:38
Speaker 2: Can throw well, no doubt.
• 16:41
Speaker 1: And as we're looking at the NFC, if we're going
• 16:43
Speaker 1: to stay there thinking about the Philadelphia Eagles, another team
• 16:45
Speaker 1: that's right, there's the Green Bay Packers coming off that
• 16:48
Speaker 1: game against Miami Thanksgiving Night. They've won seven of the
• 16:52
Speaker 1: last eight games after two and two. Start the one
• 16:55
Speaker 1: I want to hit you on this one with Tucker
• 16:57
Speaker 1: Craft six for seventy eight the tight end. He was
• 16:59
Speaker 1: their second tight endmember. They took Luke Musgrave in that draft,
• 17:02
Speaker 1: then took Tucker Craft. He was six ZHO four six
• 17:05
Speaker 1: two fifty four ran four sixty nine. It was one
• 17:07
Speaker 1: of the best tight end drafts we've ever seen. It
• 17:09
Speaker 1: was stacked at the tight end position.
• 17:11
  Speaker 4: I was.
• 17:11
Speaker 2: I looked at back up.
• 17:12
Speaker 1: He was my fifty sixth player buck They got him
• 17:15
Speaker 1: with the seventy eighth pick. It's another reminder of why
• 17:18
Speaker 1: it's smart and a deep beer like that to double up,
• 17:21
Speaker 1: because if you stick by best player available, you're going
• 17:24
Speaker 1: to double up when you have those years where you
• 17:26
Speaker 1: have a loaded class at one position and they're rewarded
• 17:30
Speaker 1: for going back into that pool.
• 17:31
  Speaker 3: DJ.
• 17:31
Speaker 4: You can never go wrong taking good players. And I
• 17:34
Speaker 4: know a lot of times we talked about positions and
• 17:36
  Speaker 4: those things.
• 17:36
Speaker 5: And people don't like the BPA theory, right, best player available, Yeah,
• 17:40
Speaker 5: but it doesn't fit.
• 17:41
Speaker 4: But when you take good players, you find a way
• 17:43
Speaker 4: to utilize them, and sometimes you put it on the coaches.
• 17:45
Speaker 4: Let's find a way to make sure that we take
• 17:46
Speaker 4: advantage of what we have. When it comes to the talent, the.
• 17:49
Speaker 5: Green Bay Packers have a Simwhatar roster is really really talented,
• 17:52
Speaker 5: and it's talented because they believe in their draft and
• 17:54
Speaker 5: develop approach and it has worked for them for years
• 17:58
Speaker 5: to continue to work for them, and they been able
• 18:00
Speaker 5: to supplement it with key free agents of Josh Jacobs
• 18:03
Speaker 5: and some of the other.
• 18:04
Speaker 3: Guys that have come on board.
• 18:05
Speaker 5: But really the nuts and bolts of this team home
• 18:08
Speaker 5: grown players that are drafted under.
• 18:10
Speaker 4: Their principle, and we're gonna draft the best player.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: We're going to develop them.
• 18:12
Speaker 4: We can put them on the field, and we're unafraid
• 18:16
Speaker 4: to live through their mistakes because we understand what it is.
• 18:19
Speaker 5: We're going to be better in the long run when
• 18:21
Speaker 5: we take this approach, particularly in a small market like Greenback.
• 18:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's it's also sends a message that hey,
• 18:27
  Speaker 1: don't nobody get comfortable now. I don't care if I
• 18:30
Speaker 1: took you in the first round. I don't care if
• 18:31
Speaker 1: I paid you in free agency. We're going to keep
• 18:34
Speaker 1: adding talented players at your position. It breeds competition. They
• 18:38
Speaker 1: have that at a lot of positions. This is a
• 18:40
Speaker 1: really deep roster that Brian Gudikins is built there. So look,
• 18:44
Speaker 1: I give him, I give them their love here. They're
• 18:46
Speaker 1: sitting here at nine and three. They're right in the
• 18:48
Speaker 1: mix to go chase a conference championship. So it's a
• 18:52
Speaker 1: it's an impressive job there. I do want to say
• 18:54
Speaker 1: Tua for going into that environment.
• 18:56
  Speaker 2: Buck.
• 18:56
Speaker 1: I thought he played well. They're five and seven right now.
• 19:00
Speaker 1: They're going to need to get on a pretty big
• 19:02
Speaker 1: run to try and backdoor their way into the playoffs.
• 19:05
Speaker 1: But they are still alive here at five and seven.
• 19:09
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's still alive. I think some of the things
• 19:11
Speaker 5: that you worry about with two incode, whether it shows up.
• 19:13
  Speaker 5: It's hard for a guy who doesn't have what I
• 19:16
Speaker 5: called superior arm talent, a plus arm talent sometimes to
• 19:19
Speaker 5: play in inclement a windy conditions. But it does a
• 19:22
Speaker 5: really good job of working inside the numbers and in
• 19:25
Speaker 5: that game, it's a lot of short intermediate inbreaking routes
• 19:28
Speaker 5: that he was able to utilize. They have to figure
• 19:31
Speaker 5: out knowing how the team is constructed, how their quarterback
• 19:34
Speaker 5: prefers to play. To me, it's about them understanding how
• 19:38
Speaker 5: they need to build the team and how they.
• 19:39
Speaker 4: Need to set it up, and it comes to winning
• 19:41
  Speaker 4: their schedule so.
• 19:42
Speaker 5: They get home games. Because where Hiss Greate as too,
• 19:45
Speaker 5: it is directing this offense. He's a different player when
• 19:48
Speaker 5: he has to play in the cold.
• 19:49
Speaker 3: And you don't want to.
• 19:50
Speaker 4: Play those cold games in the playoffs.
• 19:53
Speaker 1: Yeah no, well, at first, you don't want to play
• 19:56
Speaker 1: cold games in the playoffs. But this Dolphins team, they
• 19:58
Speaker 1: just want to get to the playoffs. Buffalo Bills just
• 20:07
Speaker 1: trounced the forty nine ers. I don't say we put
• 20:09
Speaker 1: a nail in their coffin because that division still hasn't
• 20:13
Speaker 1: really completely run away from them, but you've got a
• 20:15
Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey injury. It feels like, you tell me there's
• 20:22
Speaker 1: no excuses for Buffalo not to come out of the
• 20:23
Speaker 1: AFC this year. Like it's all lined up for him
• 20:26
Speaker 1: right now, even if they have to go on the
• 20:28
Speaker 1: road to Kansas City. How those team's built, what Kansas
• 20:31
Speaker 1: City looks like. Even though they're winning ballgames, this feels
• 20:34
Speaker 1: like it's now or never for Buffalo.
• 20:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think there's urgency that they're playing with Seohn
• 20:39
Speaker 5: mcdummot has done a really good job.
• 20:40
Speaker 4: I remember DJ coming into it. Many of us, I mean,
• 20:44
Speaker 4: I for sure thought that they were going to take
• 20:46
  Speaker 4: a step back.
• 20:46
Speaker 5: I didn't think that they would be in the conversation
• 20:48
Speaker 5: as the team to beat in the AFC.
• 20:50
Speaker 4: But that's where they are. This is a team that
• 20:52
Speaker 4: has an urgency and energy about them.
• 20:55
Speaker 5: They're feisty, they're competitive, and they're well constructed. They are
• 20:59
  Speaker 5: fun because.
• 21:00
Speaker 3: DJ, they don't have what we would call like.
• 21:03
Speaker 4: A bunch of blues, a bunch of A level players,
• 21:06
Speaker 4: but man, they got a collection of b's and b
• 21:08
Speaker 4: pluses that play to the max. And with Josh Allen
• 21:11
Speaker 4: playing at an MVP level.
• 21:13
Speaker 5: This team can knock off anybody. And what is great
• 21:16
Speaker 5: about what Josh Allen has done. He's mature to the
• 21:19
Speaker 5: point that he understands how to kind of toe that
• 21:21
Speaker 5: line between game manager and playmaker and when to kind
• 21:25
Speaker 5: of throw his body in harm's way and when.
• 21:28
Speaker 4: To play it kind of straight and conservative. It's really
• 21:30
Speaker 4: worked out for his outum.
• 21:32
Speaker 1: There's been years in the past where I feel like
• 21:35
Speaker 1: Josh has got beat up, you know, towards the end
• 21:38
Speaker 1: of the regular season and wasn't quite one hundred percent,
• 21:41
Speaker 1: you know, with his legs. He's got six rushing touchdowns
• 21:44
Speaker 1: this year. I went back and watched all of them.
• 21:46
Speaker 1: So you got two on zone reads, you got three
• 21:47
Speaker 1: on scrambles, you got one on a sneak. For a
• 21:50
Speaker 1: team that you can talk about maybe not the most
• 21:52
Speaker 1: dynamic skill positions, it's high school football. He's the X
• 21:56
Speaker 1: factor with what he can do with his legs. And
• 21:58
Speaker 1: that's why I'm just like, man, Okay, you clinched the division,
• 22:02
Speaker 1: your fifth consecutive AFC East Crown here.
• 22:06
  Speaker 2: I don't think it.
• 22:06
Speaker 1: Matters with this team how they're built, whether you're out,
• 22:08
Speaker 1: you're at home, or on the road. And I'm not
• 22:10
Speaker 1: saying you can't. You can't shut it down, you know,
• 22:12
Speaker 1: shut it down, shut it down. But man, just keep
• 22:15
Speaker 1: Josh Allen healthy. Tell him we don't need you to
• 22:17
Speaker 1: be Superman down the stretch here we punched our ticket.
• 22:21
Speaker 1: I need you to be one hundred percent because if
• 22:23
Speaker 1: Josh Allen is one hundred percent healthy bucket, he just
• 22:26
Speaker 1: unleashes his athleticism. You know, as you a high school
• 22:29
Speaker 1: coach have seen when you've got the biggest, baddest nude
• 22:32
Speaker 1: on your team like that, to me is the most
• 22:34
Speaker 1: important thing. If they get Josh Allen healthy going into
• 22:37
Speaker 1: the playoffs and he can be aggressive and run, you know,
• 22:40
Speaker 1: eight to twelve times a game like he's a high
• 22:43
Speaker 1: school quarterback, they're going to be a very tough out man.
• 22:46
Speaker 5: Well, the beautiful thing about the way Josh Allen plays
• 22:48
Speaker 5: and the way that Joe Brady's calling the game, you
• 22:50
Speaker 5: can control and dictate how many times he touches the
• 22:53
  Speaker 5: ball on.
• 22:54
Speaker 3: The perimeter as a runner.
• 22:56
Speaker 5: You can tell them to take a little more conservative approach.
• 22:58
Speaker 5: And I think he has kind of learned when to
• 23:01
Speaker 5: insert himself into the game. Normally, D day when you
• 23:03
Speaker 5: really watch him run. He runs it in third critical situations,
• 23:06
  Speaker 5: two minute drills.
• 23:07
Speaker 4: Red zone, red zone like he doesn't.
• 23:10
Speaker 5: He's not recklessly just kind of running around at all times.
• 23:13
Speaker 5: He picks and chooses his thing, which is very similar
• 23:17
Speaker 5: to the way that Pat Mahomes uses his legs when
• 23:20
Speaker 5: it comes to scrambling and buying time and doing those things.
• 23:23
Speaker 4: As these guys get.
• 23:24
Speaker 5: Older as mobile quarterbacks, they kind of understand when they
• 23:28
Speaker 5: kind of use that part of their superpowers to help
• 23:31
Speaker 5: their team staying games and win games.
• 23:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they've done a good job of picking
• 23:35
Speaker 1: your spots, but I think you also understand volume wise,
• 23:37
Speaker 1: we get into the playoffs, we can step that up
• 23:40
Speaker 1: a little bit more. And I just feel like that
• 23:41
Speaker 1: Josh Allen with his legs has got to be a
• 23:43
Speaker 1: big part of this Buffalo offense for them to go
• 23:45
Speaker 1: chase the title, which it's all right there for him,
• 23:47
Speaker 1: It is set up for him. This is their time.
• 23:49
Speaker 1: They need to go get it done this year. Another
• 23:52
Speaker 1: team that's right in the mix with him, though, Buck
• 23:54
Speaker 1: Pittsburgh just keeps rolling. They find different ways to win
• 23:57
Speaker 1: ball games. Russell Wilson goes for four to fourteen three
• 24:00
Speaker 1: touchdowns and a pick. In this ballgame, Cam Hayward got
• 24:03
Speaker 1: a sack. That's his sixth sack this year. He's thirty
• 24:06
Speaker 1: five years old. So my saucy nug is that is
• 24:09
Speaker 1: a sneaky position that can age well. I think of
• 24:12
Speaker 1: defensive tackles, guys like Ted Washington, I think of Kalais Campbell,
• 24:16
Speaker 1: who's still going Cam Hayward's still playing at a high level.
• 24:19
Speaker 1: We think of like, okay, quarterbacks, kickers, they can play
• 24:22
Speaker 1: a long time. You age out of obviously running back
• 24:24
Speaker 1: very early. Receiver seems to be about age thirty even
• 24:28
Speaker 1: edgdreshers as you maybe lose a little bit of juice.
• 24:31
Speaker 1: Defensive tackles, Surprisingly, some of these big time defensive tackles
• 24:34
  Speaker 1: aged quite well.
• 24:36
Speaker 5: D You know why because about toughness and technique at
• 24:39
Speaker 5: that position. Tough guys can hold a point namek or
• 24:42
Speaker 5: hit the nose tackles technique. Guys can use their hands
• 24:45
Speaker 5: and whip as we talk about like the tomato can
• 24:48
Speaker 5: on the inside. Ye have that kind of production. You're
• 24:51
Speaker 5: right when you think about some of the guys who
• 24:53
Speaker 5: played a long time at the position to Ted Washington's
• 24:55
Speaker 5: of the world, Yeah, they were older guys but man,
• 24:58
Speaker 5: their strength, the building, the kind of controller at the
• 25:01
Speaker 5: point of attack. I think about bench Willfork and what
• 25:03
Speaker 5: he was able to do. Uh, there is something to that. Indeed,
• 25:07
Speaker 5: get that experience. That experience matters. And we've talked about it,
• 25:11
Speaker 5: and we've talked about it in baseball terms before about
• 25:13
Speaker 5: being strong right down the middle. It always applies in
• 25:16
Speaker 5: football too, having that that gray beard in the middle,
• 25:20
Speaker 5: whether it's a nose tackle, linebacker, free safety. The intelligence,
• 25:25
Speaker 5: the experience, the instincts, those things matter.
• 25:29
Speaker 4: I think we're seeing there with Cam.
• 25:30
  Speaker 2: Hayward anything quickly.
• 25:32
Speaker 1: On the Cincinnati side of it, Man, they score bazillion
• 25:34
Speaker 1: points and lose again.
• 25:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, just don't have the defensive personnel to be able
• 25:38
Speaker 4: to compete. I love Joe Burr and what Joe Burr
• 25:40
Speaker 4: has been able to do.
• 25:41
Speaker 5: But it just they're not able to compliment what they
• 25:44
Speaker 5: do offensively with their defense. And I'll say this, man,
• 25:47
Speaker 5: they give away too many games at the beginning of
• 25:49
  Speaker 5: the year.
• 25:49
Speaker 4: We've talked about Andy Reid and how Andy Reid.
• 25:51
Speaker 5: And those guys jump out ahead of the group. You know,
• 25:54
Speaker 5: they win those early games.
• 25:55
Speaker 4: And so they don't have to kind of scuffle and
• 25:57
Speaker 4: scrape to get into the postseason. The Bengals havent giving
• 26:00
Speaker 4: away games the first month of the season, and I
• 26:03
Speaker 4: feel they they spend their time in chase mode where
• 26:06
Speaker 4: they should be trying to win a division in those
• 26:09
Speaker 4: things with the talent that they have on the ross.
• 26:11
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 26:12
Speaker 1: No, what a disappointing year for the Cincinnati Bengals. There's
• 26:15
Speaker 1: no doubt about it. Let's get to Minnesota Arizona. This
• 26:18
Speaker 1: is a close game, comeback win. I had this thought.
• 26:21
Speaker 1: I looked this up and this is my takeaway in
• 26:23
Speaker 1: this game. I'm curious to see not only how Minnesota
• 26:25
Speaker 1: finishes the year ten and two having a phenomenal year,
• 26:28
Speaker 1: but where is this going the off season. Let's get
• 26:30
Speaker 1: ahead of ourselves just for one second. They draft a
• 26:33
Speaker 1: quarterback JJ McCarthy's. He gets hurt, so he's on the shelf.
• 26:36
Speaker 1: Not going to see him at all this year. Sam Donald,
• 26:37
Speaker 1: you have the keys to the car. Sam Donald's having
• 26:40
Speaker 1: a great year. Let me give you the numbers he's
• 26:42
Speaker 1: projected for. He's on pace four right now, Buck, you're ready.
• 26:45
Speaker 1: He's on pace for forty one eighty two yards. He's
• 26:49
Speaker 1: completed sixty seven point six percent of his passes, So
• 26:52
Speaker 1: that's the completion percentage, that's the yardage. I went back
• 26:55
Speaker 1: and looked up Alex Smith. Right, you draft Patrick Mahomes,
• 26:59
Speaker 1: but we're going to be paid and we're gonna sit
• 27:00
Speaker 1: him behind Alex Smith. Alex Smith that year, Alex Smith
• 27:04
Speaker 1: threw for four forty two yards sixty seven point five percent,
• 27:08
Speaker 1: So just literally almost identical numbers to what Sam did.
• 27:12
Speaker 1: Sam's on pace for thirty three touchdowns, fourteen picks. Alex
• 27:15
Speaker 1: Smith twenty six and five in that year. So Sam's
• 27:20
Speaker 1: having this year which is incredible, and there's part of
• 27:22
Speaker 1: me just sitting here going like, well, you can't let
• 27:25
Speaker 1: him walk. I know you drafted another quarterback, but he's
• 27:27
Speaker 1: playing at this high of a level. It's going to
• 27:29
Speaker 1: be fascinating to see if they believe JJ McCarthy has
• 27:32
Speaker 1: another gear. Obviously the Chiefs believe that Mahomes had another gear,
• 27:36
Speaker 1: and they were approved, right because in a year where
• 27:39
Speaker 1: the draft doesn't look great at quarterback, man Sam Darnold
• 27:43
Speaker 1: in a you know, if you were to tag and
• 27:45
Speaker 1: trade him, you'd have a heck of an asset there too. So, man,
• 27:49
Speaker 1: that is just forecasting into the offseason. One of the
• 27:51
Speaker 1: fascinating decisions that's going to be forthcoming.
• 27:54
Speaker 4: Let's add to it, right, So Daniel Jones signs with
• 27:56
Speaker 4: the private squad to be around with Kevin O'Connell and
• 28:00
Speaker 4: with the Minnesota Vikings for the rest of the year.
• 28:02
Speaker 4: It gives Kevin O'Connell and the front office an.
• 28:04
Speaker 5: Opportunity to look at Daniel Jones to see where he is,
• 28:07
Speaker 5: to kind of wagh the pros and cons of where
• 28:09
Speaker 5: that he is a reclamation project that they can give
• 28:12
Speaker 5: the Sam Donald blueprint and utilize him while JJ McCarthy
• 28:16
Speaker 5: is continuing to develop as they auction off Sam Donald
• 28:20
Speaker 5: for some more picks.
• 28:21
Speaker 4: That's why it was such a wise move for them
• 28:23
  Speaker 4: to get.
• 28:23
Speaker 5: In on Daniel Jones, for Kevin McConnell's to kind of
• 28:26
Speaker 5: just throw verbal bouquets in Daniel Jones direction because it's
• 28:30
Speaker 5: another chip man, it's another pawn on the chessboard, that
• 28:34
Speaker 5: another piece that they can use to help this team
• 28:36
Speaker 5: have staying power at the top of the division or
• 28:39
Speaker 5: at the top of the industry.
• 28:41
Speaker 1: Well, well, it's a big win for the Minnesota Vikings,
• 28:43
Speaker 1: comeback win. It's a really complete football team. Arizona six
• 28:47
Speaker 1: and six they're still right in the mix, just behind
• 28:49
Speaker 1: the team we're going to talk about next here. That's Seattle.
• 28:52
Speaker 1: Big comeback win for the Seahawks against the Jets. Jets
• 28:55
Speaker 1: had them dead to rights. Then Seattle. Leonard Williams has
• 28:58
Speaker 1: been playing lights out out man. He's been awesome in
• 29:01
Speaker 1: the last few weeks. His tape last week was fun
• 29:03
Speaker 1: to watch. I'm excited to get a chance to really
• 29:05
Speaker 1: dig in and watch the cutups in this one because
• 29:08
Speaker 1: some of the highlights right here, what he just did
• 29:09
Speaker 1: to John Simpson is ridiculous. And then you look at
• 29:13
Speaker 1: the pick six. He was all over the field. Man
• 29:15
Speaker 1: all over the field for LARRYN Williams. So big win
• 29:18
Speaker 1: for the Seattle Seahawks. JSN four for seventy four. He's
• 29:22
Speaker 1: got seventy catches over eight hundred yards and four touchdowns.
• 29:26
Speaker 1: What a heck of a year for him so far
• 29:27
  Speaker 1: as well.
• 29:28
Speaker 5: Yeah, really good break I mean, really impressive breakout season
• 29:31
Speaker 5: for JSN as a slot receiver because he's doing most
• 29:33
Speaker 5: of his damage from the slat.
• 29:34
Speaker 4: We talked about him.
• 29:35
Speaker 3: He was a great route runner.
• 29:36
Speaker 5: He's another one of those skill pass catches that we
• 29:39
Speaker 5: have seen have a lot.
• 29:40
Speaker 4: Of success in the league.
• 29:42
Speaker 3: Love all of that.
• 29:43
Speaker 4: What I really like about the Seattle Seahawks.
• 29:45
Speaker 3: Team is I feel like they are.
• 29:47
Speaker 5: They built upon the legacy of Pete Carrolyn what they
• 29:49
Speaker 5: did there, but they've done it in a different way.
• 29:52
  Speaker 4: Me.
• 29:52
Speaker 3: Pete Carroll and those guys are really good at developing players,
• 29:55
  Speaker 3: really good.
• 29:55
Speaker 5: At taking chances on players and having putting them in
• 29:57
Speaker 5: spots where it worked out.
• 29:59
Speaker 4: I think you have.
• 30:00
Speaker 5: All of that same developmental approach with a more structured, discipline,
• 30:06
Speaker 5: detailed leader and Mike McDonald and as they're kind of
• 30:10
Speaker 5: embracing his style and listening to Jared Reed and some
• 30:13
Speaker 5: of the other players talked about how they needed a
• 30:15
  Speaker 5: little more structure.
• 30:17
Speaker 4: To me, John Snyder.
• 30:18
Speaker 5: Really did a great job of picking a head coach
• 30:20
Speaker 5: that could take the program to the next step. Mike
• 30:23
Speaker 5: McDonald appears to have the potential to take this program,
• 30:27
Speaker 5: this organization, this team to the next level, just based
• 30:30
Speaker 5: on what he asked of the team as a coach
• 30:32
  Speaker 5: and leader.
• 30:33
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 30:33
Speaker 1: I like watching them, man, They're fast, they play hard,
• 30:36
Speaker 1: they're physical. It's been fun to watch this entire really
• 30:40
Speaker 1: team come together in JSN having a phenomenal campaign there,
• 30:44
Speaker 1: reaching his potential as well. All right, staying in the
• 30:47
Speaker 1: NFC Rams Saints. The Rams just one game back, big
• 30:52
Speaker 1: win for them against the New Orleans Saints, who are
• 30:54
Speaker 1: just kind of you know, they're hanging around. They're in
• 30:57
Speaker 1: these games, but they're four and eight, not really going anywhere,
• 31:00
Speaker 1: and that I don't want to say it this way,
• 31:03
Speaker 1: but they just feel like they could be stuck in
• 31:05
Speaker 1: there not going to be terrible, not going to be
• 31:07
Speaker 1: good world. They could be stuck in that world for
• 31:11
Speaker 1: a few years, especially as they try and navigate some
• 31:13
Speaker 1: salary cap stuff going forward.
• 31:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, no one wants to be in that world. It's
• 31:17
Speaker 4: like the worst place to be.
• 31:18
Speaker 5: You're not bad enough to benefit from being a bad
• 31:21
Speaker 5: team to get a top pick that can can't help
• 31:23
Speaker 5: you flip the roster. You're not good enough to compete
• 31:25
Speaker 5: and be a serious contender in the postseason, so you're
• 31:28
Speaker 5: right around average. And when you look at this team,
• 31:31
Speaker 5: you just think about where they need to improve. Man,
• 31:33
Speaker 5: there's so many pieces that they need to add to
• 31:37
Speaker 5: be one of those teams that compete with the emerging
• 31:40
Speaker 5: teams in the NFC. The best thing that probably could
• 31:43
Speaker 5: happen for the Saint is that it kind of falls
• 31:47
Speaker 5: apart down the stretch. They're able to get into the
• 31:49
Speaker 5: top ten, top five of a pick, and they're able
• 31:52
Speaker 5: to start the rebooting process of this team, because no
• 31:55
Speaker 5: matter who becomes a coach, they're going to have to
• 31:58
Speaker 5: blow this thing up a little bit to build it
• 32:01
Speaker 5: good from the ground up.
• 32:02
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 32:03
Speaker 1: No, it's interesting to see how they go forward the
• 32:06
Speaker 1: RAMS side of things. They've got Buffalo at home this week.
• 32:09
Speaker 1: Massive game, Massive game. They were a little bit short
• 32:13
Speaker 1: against the heavyweight against the Philadelphia Eagles. They go win
• 32:16
Speaker 1: on the road, big win over the Saints. But now
• 32:18
Speaker 1: you come home and you got a big heavyweight coming
• 32:21
  Speaker 1: in Buffalo.
• 32:21
Speaker 2: So that's going to be a challenge.
• 32:23
Speaker 1: And if you thought the Philadelphia Eagles took over that
• 32:25
Speaker 1: stadium way do you see Bill's Mafia. That's gonna be
• 32:28
Speaker 1: a home game for them. So it's gonna be a
• 32:30
Speaker 1: big test. Next week will be big for the Rams.
• 32:33
Speaker 1: Theory on this next one, Tampa Bay Carolina, we've seen
• 32:37
Speaker 1: and this was a game Tampa Bay. Give them their flowers.
• 32:39
Speaker 1: They won the ball game, they get back to six
• 32:41
Speaker 1: and six, it's an overtime win. But I want to
• 32:44
Speaker 1: hit Bryce Young on this one. A fourth quarter comeback.
• 32:47
Speaker 1: He made some big throws. You're seeing him get better
• 32:50
Speaker 1: and better and better, and I thought, this is my takeaway.
• 32:53
Speaker 1: Remember Drew Brees early on in his career, and I'm
• 32:57
Speaker 1: not saying Bryce young as Drew Brees, but it took
• 32:59
Speaker 1: a minute, right. He didn't just launch right into the NFL.
• 33:03
Speaker 1: And the reason being is it's not There's a difference
• 33:06
Speaker 1: between the physically gifted, who you know can get out
• 33:10
Speaker 1: there and do things physically and that buys them time
• 33:14
Speaker 1: while they're trying to learn. Then there's guys like Bryce
• 33:17
Speaker 1: and he will put him in the category of Drew
• 33:19
Speaker 1: Brees as guys that rely on mastery more than the
• 33:23
Speaker 1: physical gifts. So you give a guy who's not as
• 33:27
Speaker 1: physically gifted more time to become a master in his offense.
• 33:32
Speaker 1: The understandings there. You saw it when I watched this
• 33:34
Speaker 1: game and watch this tape this morning. The anticipation was excellent,
• 33:38
Speaker 1: the timing was there. He was able to fit some
• 33:40
Speaker 1: balls in. Because of that, I think it's maybe it
• 33:43
Speaker 1: requires just more patience when you got guys who are
• 33:46
Speaker 1: going to rely on mastery over physicalities.
• 33:48
  Speaker 2: What I'm getting at, Let's.
• 33:50
Speaker 5: Say we started putting prospects into the two different buckets.
• 33:54
Speaker 4: When it comes to quarterback, we have the talented ones
• 33:57
Speaker 4: and then we have the technical one.
• 33:59
Speaker 5: Right relative technic the technical category. Everything has to be
• 34:03
Speaker 5: lined up. Footwork, mechanics, understanding of the system has to
• 34:07
Speaker 5: be right for him to play at a high level.
• 34:09
Speaker 5: When you talk about Drew Brees, that's how Drew Brees
• 34:12
Speaker 5: strikes me. And it took and people forgive this. It
• 34:14
Speaker 5: took Drew Brees having Philip Rivers right on his bumper
• 34:18
Speaker 5: before he became the Pro Bowl player that he became.
• 34:21
Speaker 5: It took Bryce Young having to sit down before he
• 34:24
Speaker 5: was able to kind of.
• 34:25
Speaker 4: Find his way in those things. The other thing that
• 34:28
Speaker 4: I believe is underrated.
• 34:29
Speaker 3: If you go back and look at Bryce Young's.
• 34:30
Speaker 5: History went all the way back to high school DJ.
• 34:33
Speaker 5: This is the first time that he's ever had on
• 34:34
Speaker 5: field adversity. Everything was easy for him and it's not
• 34:38
Speaker 5: his fault. But look, he was a great player at
• 34:39
Speaker 5: modern Day High school in Santa Anna won a Ton
• 34:42
Speaker 5: went to Alabama one a ton great player. This is
• 34:45
Speaker 5: the first time between the lines he's been dealt the
• 34:48
Speaker 5: short end of the stick. He has a short deck
• 34:51
Speaker 5: when it comes to the cards. He's learning and showing
• 34:54
Speaker 5: that he has the toughness and the resilience to bounce back.
• 34:58
Speaker 5: The Carolina Panthers have one and lo Man, I think
• 35:01
Speaker 5: they would regret pulling the plug on him. I think
• 35:04
Speaker 5: he's shown enough that someone would take him and hit
• 35:07
Speaker 5: his game, go to the next level with more time
• 35:09
  Speaker 5: and experience.
• 35:10
Speaker 1: Who are they finding better than him right now? I
• 35:12
Speaker 1: don't see one out there. Man, He's shown plenty to
• 35:15
Speaker 1: me that you need to again swing your support behind him.
• 35:19
Speaker 1: Get some more guys that can catch some football. For
• 35:20
Speaker 1: crying out loud, I mean every time you watch him,
• 35:22
Speaker 1: I feel like there's a big drop in every single
• 35:24
Speaker 1: one of these games.
• 35:25
  Speaker 2: Drew Brees.
• 35:25
Speaker 1: To wrap that up, by the way, to put a
• 35:27
Speaker 1: pin in this as we look forward. Drew Brees twenty
• 35:32
Speaker 1: eight touchdowns thirty one interceptions in his first two years
• 35:35
Speaker 1: as an NFL starting quarterback. Well Buck, Max Crosby, Brock
• 35:46
Speaker 1: Bauers and the Las Vegas Raiders they always played the
• 35:48
Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs tough almost got him again on this one.
• 35:52
Speaker 1: The Chiefs, they get away with it. They win nineteen
• 35:54
Speaker 1: to seventeen on a snap that came a little earlier
• 35:57
Speaker 1: than nade O'Connell was expecting. Low and behold here the
• 36:00
Speaker 1: Chiefs are. They clinch a playoff berth for the tenth
• 36:03
Speaker 1: consecutive season. I'm trying to be balanced here and respectful
• 36:06
Speaker 1: of an eleven and one football team while also not
• 36:09
Speaker 1: ignoring what my eyes are telling me, which is this
• 36:11
Speaker 1: is a vulnerable team in Kansas City.
• 36:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, a vulnerable team and sometimes DJ you see this
• 36:17
  Speaker 4: with championship.
• 36:18
Speaker 5: Teams, like they're able to win even after they're out
• 36:21
Speaker 5: of their window or.
• 36:22
Speaker 4: Out of their prime.
• 36:23
Speaker 5: And what the Chiefs have is they have a toughness
• 36:25
Speaker 5: and they know how of how to win these close games.
• 36:28
Speaker 5: And when you have Pat Mahomes, who is the ultimate eracer,
• 36:31
Speaker 5: you can win some of those.
• 36:32
Speaker 4: To me, what I see from the Chiefs is a.
• 36:34
Speaker 5: Team that is kind of coming together on offense, DeAndre
• 36:37
Speaker 5: Hopkins coming over to be the compliment to Travis Kelce
• 36:40
Speaker 5: Isaia for Checko coming back. The main issue that they
• 36:44
Speaker 5: have is they can't block at the point of attack.
• 36:45
Speaker 5: Their offensive tackle situation is one of the worst that
• 36:48
Speaker 5: we've seen in football. And until they're able to solve that, yeah,
• 36:52
Speaker 5: it's gonna be hard for the Chiefs to play that
• 36:55
Speaker 5: we're accustomed to them playing because they simply can't protect
• 36:58
Speaker 5: number fifteen in the pocket.
• 37:00
Speaker 1: Scared to do it with the Chiefs. But man, this
• 37:03
Speaker 1: reminds me a lot of that Philly team. It was
• 37:05
Speaker 1: last year right where Philly gets off to that unbelievable record,
• 37:09
Speaker 1: but people just weren't buying it. And now I look
• 37:11
Speaker 1: at the schedule the Kansas City Chiefs. Their last five games,
• 37:15
Speaker 1: they play four teams who would be in the playoffs
• 37:16
Speaker 1: if the season, and today they got four tough games
• 37:19
Speaker 1: coming up on their next five.
• 37:21
Speaker 2: What did shocked you at all?
• 37:22
Speaker 1: If Kansas City were to lose two or three of
• 37:24
Speaker 1: these games coming down the stretch of that, there's such
• 37:27
Speaker 1: a razor thin margin right now.
• 37:29
Speaker 5: I mean, look, they living dangerously for sure, Like you
• 37:32
Speaker 5: can't win fourteenth straight one score games the way that
• 37:34
Speaker 5: they're doing block and field goals, finding ways for people
• 37:37
Speaker 5: to drop snaps and snaps and all of the other stuff.
• 37:40
Speaker 3: But I am hoping when I look at the team,
• 37:42
  Speaker 3: and when I.
• 37:42
Speaker 5: Watch the game on Friday, it was really them leaning
• 37:46
Speaker 5: on the vets, Kelsey Hopkins trying.
• 37:48
Speaker 3: To get as there for Checko going and then the
• 37:50
  Speaker 3: magic that Pat.
• 37:50
Speaker 5: Mahomes has is different, and it's going to be a
• 37:52
Speaker 5: harder run for this team in the postseason.
• 37:55
Speaker 4: Not quite ready to pour dirt on them. They're vulnerable
• 37:58
  Speaker 4: for sure.
• 37:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I'm gonna see him next week going there
• 38:01
Speaker 1: with the Chargers. Chargers coming off a big win against
• 38:04
Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons. How's this for a saucy neg buck.
• 38:08
Speaker 1: It's the lowest yards, the fewest amount of yards the
• 38:11
Speaker 1: Chargers have had in a road win since nineteen sixty,
• 38:14
Speaker 1: so the offense did next to nothing.
• 38:15
Speaker 2: They get a pick six.
• 38:17
Speaker 1: Tarheeb still fifth round pick out at a Maryland corner,
• 38:20
Speaker 1: has two picks, including that pick six. Marcus May has
• 38:23
Speaker 1: a pick after showing up this week. Tony Jefferson, who
• 38:26
Speaker 1: had been scouting for the Ravens a couple of years ago,
• 38:29
Speaker 1: he comes off to practice squad. He has a bunch
• 38:32
Speaker 1: of tackles. Troyde gets in there and plays well at
• 38:35
Speaker 1: the linebacker spot when you have no paramount, so a
• 38:38
Speaker 1: lot of Joe Hortiz's moves they pay off and a
• 38:41
Speaker 1: win over Atlanta where Kirk Cousins not good, let's just
• 38:44
Speaker 1: put it that way.
• 38:45
Speaker 5: With four picks, Yeah, not good, And I guess you
• 38:48
Speaker 5: probably went the booth saying game for he's a.
• 38:49
Speaker 3: Jolly good fellow, and no one can deny they got a.
• 38:52
Speaker 5: Really good job of getting guys to buy in. And
• 38:55
Speaker 5: we can talk about Jim Harbaugh being quirky and funny
• 38:58
Speaker 5: and all of those other things, but what he does,
• 39:00
Speaker 5: but he gets unbelievable buy in from his players, and
• 39:04
Speaker 5: this team is all the way bought in on the
• 39:06
Speaker 5: way they have to play d A. It doesn't matter
• 39:08
Speaker 5: if they have to light up the scoreboard, if they
• 39:09
Speaker 5: have to play a grinded out of fair, if they
• 39:11
Speaker 5: have to find a way to get things done on
• 39:12
Speaker 5: the special teams, they do it. And they are a
• 39:15
Speaker 5: very dangerous team because to me, they're the unorthodox boxer
• 39:19
Speaker 5: that you don't want to face in the ring. They
• 39:22
Speaker 5: can make you play their style and man, just like
• 39:26
Speaker 5: we saw in Michigan and Ohio State like sometimes man,
• 39:28
Speaker 5: that style makes every game close. And they're so used
• 39:32
Speaker 5: to winning these close games and making these.
• 39:34
Speaker 3: Clutch plays they know how to get it done.
• 39:36
Speaker 4: There's no fear in this team.
• 39:38
  Speaker 2: From the game.
• 39:38
Speaker 1: I always after the game you were at, tell me
• 39:40
Speaker 1: about what went down there in Jacksonville. Outside obviously the
• 39:43
Speaker 1: huge hit on Trevor.
• 39:46
Speaker 4: Look, I think you have to talk about the huge
• 39:47
  Speaker 4: hit on Trevor.
• 39:48
Speaker 5: He you have Trevor Lawrence, a franchise quarterback, trying to
• 39:50
Speaker 5: play through a shoulder injury to come back and give
• 39:53
Speaker 5: the team some juice, not thinking that Okay, we're going
• 39:56
Speaker 5: to get into the postseason. But hey man, I'm the
• 39:58
Speaker 5: franchise quarterback, I'm the captain. I have to go down
• 40:00
Speaker 5: with the ship and to see very early in the
• 40:02
Speaker 5: game he is absolutely obliterated and knocked out.
• 40:05
Speaker 4: Very disappointing. I would say the response from the team.
• 40:09
Speaker 5: Is the part that really was disappointing to me, and
• 40:11
Speaker 5: it shed a light on the culture and the team
• 40:14
Speaker 5: in terms of the toughness and togetherness. DJ, You've worked
• 40:17
Speaker 5: for two organizations where I know if that happened to
• 40:19
Speaker 5: the franchise quarterback, they still would be brawling in the
• 40:22
Speaker 5: parking lot right now. It is something that we talk
• 40:26
Speaker 5: about and we talk about and scouting there's a code
• 40:30
Speaker 5: and you always want to make sure when you're with
• 40:32
Speaker 5: the Ravers and the Eagles, the players have to fit
• 40:34
Speaker 5: the personality of the team. And I'm worried that when
• 40:38
Speaker 5: you have an incident like this. It kind of poured
• 40:40
Speaker 5: back the curtain on what the Jaguars aren't, and that
• 40:43
Speaker 5: is like a really, really tough and physical football team.
• 40:45
Speaker 5: Because that should have been sixty minutes of vigilanti juris
• 40:49
Speaker 5: justice being served and I didn't see that, and so
• 40:51
Speaker 5: it's alarming and disappointing for me.
• 40:54
Speaker 1: Now, that was a throwback hit to like the Steve
• 40:57
Speaker 1: Polor hit he took from Mike Singletary gon back, you
• 41:00
Speaker 1: remember that. I think it was maybe late eighties, nineties
• 41:03
Speaker 1: something like that. That was That was I haven't seen
• 41:06
Speaker 1: a hit like that in a long time. But the Jags,
• 41:08
Speaker 1: it's just been it's just been one of those years,
• 41:10
Speaker 1: struggling along here two and ten, Houston trying to find
• 41:13
Speaker 1: themselves here. Uh, they're sitting at eight and five, looking
• 41:16
Speaker 1: like could be an interesting four or five seed matchup
• 41:19
Speaker 1: in the playoffs, with either a team like Baltimore or
• 41:22
Speaker 1: the Chargers potentially being the fifth seed. That will be
• 41:25
Speaker 1: an interesting matchup there with the Houston Texans. The Monday
• 41:28
Speaker 1: night game Cleveland Denver, bo Nicks to me as the headliner.
• 41:32
Speaker 1: I'm excited to see him. See if you can keep
• 41:33
Speaker 1: this thing rolling here at mile high. He's been awesome
• 41:36
  Speaker 1: at home.
• 41:36
Speaker 5: He's been awesome at home, and Champagne has shown that
• 41:39
Speaker 5: you can take a younger player, a rookie who has
• 41:42
Speaker 5: a lot of colored experience, and you can help them
• 41:44
Speaker 5: evolve from being a manager to a playmaker.
• 41:46
Speaker 4: The way that they have slowly but surely, surely but
• 41:50
Speaker 4: steadily developed bon Knicks, to me, is a blueprint for
• 41:53
Speaker 4: how other teams should bring along with their young quarterbacks.
• 41:56
Speaker 4: Started out being very conservative, run game screens, shorts, selected
• 42:00
Speaker 4: isolated passes down the field, to now he is running
• 42:02
  Speaker 4: the pool playbook.
• 42:04
Speaker 5: Look, man, it's a testament to Sean Payton and his
• 42:06
Speaker 5: development of quarterbacks, but also the bow Knicks and his
• 42:08
Speaker 5: readiness to play at a high level.
• 42:10
Speaker 1: I think this could be a game for the Denver
• 42:12
Speaker 1: defense as well. Sacks, interceptions, they could come in bunches
• 42:16
Speaker 1: against Cleveland. Cleveland, are you gonna fight? They're gonna be aggressive,
• 42:20
Speaker 1: They're gonna try and push the ball down the field.
• 42:22
Speaker 1: But with that, you're gonna get some turnovers, You're gonna
• 42:24
Speaker 1: get some sacks. So man, the Broncos are playing really
• 42:27
Speaker 1: really good football. Looking forward to that clash with the
• 42:29
Speaker 1: Chargers coming up by the way on a Thursday night
• 42:31
Speaker 1: in the very very near future. That's gonna be a
• 42:33
  Speaker 1: big ball game.
• 42:34
Speaker 2: All right, Buck. This this was fun.
• 42:36
Speaker 1: We covered a lot of grounds, didn't quite get to
• 42:38
Speaker 1: every single game. Left time throughout the week to touch
• 42:40
Speaker 1: on some of those other teams we missed. Go ahead, Buck,
• 42:42
  Speaker 1: what you got.
• 42:43
Speaker 4: No, that's what we do. We're talking about it next time,
• 42:45
  Speaker 4: maybe on Tuesday.
• 42:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's coming. It's coming, so be on the lookout
• 42:49
Speaker 1: for that. Appreciate you guys. We'll see you next time.
• 42:50
  Speaker 1: Right here on.
• 42:51
Speaker 2: Move the sticks some of them before
