- 0:48Speaker 4: it's really because we know this player very very well.
- 0:52Speaker 4: We both played against him. You played against him all
- 0:54Speaker 4: the time. You guys had legendary battles. And he is
- 0:57Speaker 4: a great human being doing some really great things. Brother,
- 1:01Speaker 4: and just an immaculate person as well, very humble and
- 1:04Speaker 4: just really great to have me.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Look, he's I'm gonna read some of his resume highlights
- 1:08Speaker 1: because he's got so many.
- 1:09Speaker 2: It's a lot. It's a lot. Well, first off, they
- 1:12Speaker 2: call him Megatron Mega.
- 1:14Speaker 1: He's the second overall pick in the two thousand and
- 1:16Speaker 1: seven draft. He played nine years for the Detroit Lions
- 1:20Speaker 1: from the d four time All Pro holds the NFL
- 1:24Speaker 1: record for the most receiving yards in a single season
- 1:27Speaker 1: nineteen hundred yards or hundred and sixty four. He got
- 1:31Speaker 1: inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in twenty twenty one.
- 1:34Speaker 2: First ballot. First ballot. That means something, that means a lot.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So please welcome a good friend of mine and our guests.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Calvin Johnson appreciated fellas, what's good man going?
- 1:48Speaker 3: Good man? It's good to see y'all. Buddy, man, it's
- 1:51Speaker 3: been a long time.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it has been like we were, you know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: we were across the way, across the room, and I
- 1:58Speaker 1: was like, oh, man, is that isn't what I think?
- 2:00Speaker 1: And I think I was talking to CJ.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I was like, yo, man, we have some legendary battles.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yo. Like that.
- 2:05Speaker 1: We was like, I leave Fraser like we had some
- 2:09Speaker 1: heavyweight battles.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It was great. We want I'm going to I want
- 2:13Speaker 2: to ask.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Him about that, but first of all, I want to
- 2:14Speaker 4: know before before we addressed the elephant in the room,
- 2:17Speaker 4: because I got a real big question for you too
- 2:19Speaker 4: about your career. But number one, what was your first like,
- 2:22Speaker 4: welcome to the NFL. Moment, you get drafted to Detroit.
- 2:25Speaker 4: You come from Georgia Tech. Not everybody saw you playing
- 2:28Speaker 4: ball out in college, but we saw you at the combine.
- 2:32Speaker 4: We talked about that earlier. I asked him, did he
- 2:34Speaker 4: For those that don't know, I said, Calvin, did you
- 2:36Speaker 4: run at the combine? We were talking about it.
- 2:38Speaker 2: He's like, oh, yeah, I ran. That's that what I forgot.
- 2:41Speaker 3: You said.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Two, three, five fast. Guys always run fast.
- 2:50Speaker 4: So what was your first like, welcome to the NFL
- 2:53Speaker 4: moment going to Detroit?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Man? Who so many but welcome to the NFL. Shoot,
- 2:59Speaker 3: I don't land it in Detroit, man. We went to
- 3:03Speaker 3: the practice facility and I think we went downtown, maybe
- 3:06Speaker 3: to the stadium. But on my way from the airport,
- 3:09Speaker 3: I want to go right back home. I'm like, can
- 3:11Speaker 3: y'all put me on the next thing back to Atlanta broke.
- 3:13Speaker 3: All I saw was dilapidated buildings, burnt down buildings. It
- 3:17Speaker 3: was an eyesore Detroit. I mean from where Detroit is
- 3:20Speaker 3: now to where it was fifteen years ago, night and day.
- 3:22Speaker 4: And that's Detsemack in the middle of the crisis too.
- 3:25Speaker 4: And the housing crisis in seven. Yeah, probably getting drafted No.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Seven yep. So yeah, you're debt smack in the middle
- 3:31Speaker 4: of it. Oh yeah, everything's going.
- 3:33Speaker 3: To Detroit got thousands of thousands of homes and you
- 3:35Speaker 3: can only imagine how many were abandon like I say,
- 3:38Speaker 3: burnt down. And it was just it was a very
- 3:41Speaker 3: depressing scene, to say the least.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Calvin, could you please indulge in this give us an
- 3:47Speaker 4: insight on what all you knew when you had to
- 3:49Speaker 4: face against Charles p Nutt Tillman, because you guys faced
- 3:51Speaker 4: each other twice a year.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Legendary battles. This he had the formula against you.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Actually, he was like the one guy around the league
- 3:58Speaker 4: that we say, hey, we can trying to emulate anything
- 4:01Speaker 4: like Pa was doing. At least frustrate him, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 4: holding him to sixty yards. That's a great day, Calvin Johnson,
- 4:07Speaker 4: So what did you know or do prepare mentally physically
- 4:11Speaker 4: going into these games before?
- 4:12Speaker 3: Before the first time I played Peanut, all I heard
- 4:14Speaker 3: was from Roy Williams like, you got the dog over there.
- 4:17Speaker 3: I'm just like, all right, you know, I see when
- 4:20Speaker 3: I get out there, you know. But the first game
- 4:22Speaker 3: I played, you was playing may be a little bit
- 4:24Speaker 3: of Roy. But then later in the game, I started
- 4:26Speaker 3: seeing more of you, and I was I was mad
- 4:29Speaker 3: at Peanut for a minute, you know, at least like
- 4:31Speaker 3: until the next year, until I talked to you again,
- 4:33Speaker 3: because he tackled me and he was almost like a
- 4:34Speaker 3: horse call tackle on the sideline, like oh yeah, but
- 4:38Speaker 3: I was so zone yeah yeah, sideline, And I was like,
- 4:42Speaker 3: I was just mad at him. He didn't probably ain't, no,
- 4:44Speaker 3: I was just steaming. I was just I did not like.
- 4:48Speaker 3: I was like, he's he's not a good guy.
- 4:53Speaker 2: That's Colvin. Yeah, he's not a good not a good guy.
- 4:58Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:00Speaker 3: But every but ever since then, man, I had to
- 5:02Speaker 3: play this dude twice a year. It's to bring your
- 5:05Speaker 3: lunch peal kind of game. There's not a playoff, and
- 5:08Speaker 3: it was there's I don't know if there's another player
- 5:11Speaker 3: like this where I had to play against in every
- 5:13Speaker 3: play he gonna bring it. Like usually by the end
- 5:15Speaker 3: of the game, I'm leaning on folks, I'm like, I
- 5:18Speaker 3: like to grab him, try to move him around a
- 5:20Speaker 3: little bit. So I'm here and I'm gonna be here
- 5:22Speaker 3: all game. Peanut was bringing that same energy, so I'm like, Okay,
- 5:25Speaker 3: all right, this is how it's gonna be. I'm like,
- 5:27Speaker 3: dang boy, I can't wait for this boy to get traded.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Well.
- 5:31Speaker 3: No, it was beautiful, man, because he made plays on me.
- 5:34Speaker 3: You know, I was able to make plays, but it
- 5:36Speaker 3: was never easy. He made me work for it, and
- 5:37Speaker 3: that's why I appreciated the most. That's why while I
- 5:40Speaker 3: like playing Chicago so much, because I knew I was
- 5:42Speaker 3: gonna get that legitimate battle. It's gonna be super authentic.
- 5:45Speaker 3: It's gonna be tough as hell. But at the end
- 5:47Speaker 3: of the game, you know, whether we win or we lose,
- 5:49Speaker 3: I know I was gonna be satisfied because I know
- 5:51Speaker 3: I was gonna get my all and I know I
- 5:52Speaker 3: was gonna get it off from him.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I can honestly say that when people
- 5:55Speaker 1: asked me about who was one of the toughest receivers,
- 5:59Speaker 1: you are in that conversation and the thing that I
- 6:02Speaker 1: appreciated the most about you.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Because everyone's like, oh, who's who's the biggest trash targle?
- 6:06Speaker 2: Who talked it? I was like, it wasn't Calvin. He
- 6:09Speaker 2: didn't I never heard. He just didn't say nothing. He
- 6:13Speaker 2: was quiet, you know, why.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Bro, you see me out there? I'm running nine all games.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Time to be talking to y'all right, to be there
- 6:24Speaker 3: to end the game?
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so I would.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I would literally sounds like he don't. He's a silent professional.
- 6:31Speaker 1: He doesn't say nothing. He just you know, you make
- 6:34Speaker 1: a good play. He makes a good play. He gets up,
- 6:38Speaker 1: gives a ball, official goes back in the hudel, and
- 6:41Speaker 1: he just does it again.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Touchdown. He all right, So you know, what is your
- 6:46Speaker 2: best Calvin Johnson moment? Best Calvin Johnson moment? I kind
- 6:54Speaker 2: of liked. So the story of you ran like a reverse.
- 6:58Speaker 2: I don't even yet so it was I probably say.
- 7:04Speaker 1: That was that was your rookieyear, right, was that your
- 7:06Speaker 1: rookiear So I switched over to right corner and Zach
- 7:11Speaker 1: Bowman was the left corner, and you were destroying Zach
- 7:16Speaker 1: the entire game. So the second half came Lovey Smith
- 7:20Speaker 1: was like, hey, and that was that was the same year.
- 7:24Speaker 1: They were like, hey, we think Zach's are our our
- 7:27Speaker 1: he's our our shutdown corner.
- 7:29Speaker 2: We're moving you over to the right and.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I was like, okay, we gonna see and then you
- 7:35Speaker 1: exposed him that game come in havetime lovey Smith.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, we uh.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Yeah, we probably we probably messed up. Let's list say, Peanut,
- 7:45Speaker 1: you you go back to handling. Uh, you just follow Calvin.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Now, we we're gonna let you take care of that,
- 7:51Speaker 2: all right. Cool.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So I go back and I do that, and then
- 7:54Speaker 1: it was a reverse and I remember trying to take
- 7:56Speaker 1: like the proper angle to try to get you. You know,
- 7:58Speaker 1: he full three five before too, So I'm running running,
- 8:02Speaker 1: And I never thought of myself as like a hard
- 8:05Speaker 1: hitting guy, but I remember on that play when I
- 8:08Speaker 1: hit him, I was like, yo, I brought his son.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I gave him business. Let's yo, That's.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Why I did. I didn't want to see him turned
- 8:22Speaker 3: up like that. That's another turn up.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I was excited because when I don't hit people that hard, bro.
- 8:29Speaker 1: So when I actually got one, I was like, yo,
- 8:32Speaker 1: I felt like ray Lewis, I felt like Land's Briggs.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I felt like t Like. I felt good. So I
- 8:38Speaker 2: was like my hell, yeah, welcome to the league, sucker.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I was yo, defense was me?
- 8:44Speaker 2: I agree?
- 8:45Speaker 3: You mentioned Briggs and I had to crack on him
- 8:47Speaker 3: one time that game. Yeah, come down in the short
- 8:50Speaker 3: motion was peaking in I hope you don't see me,
- 8:53Speaker 3: and he looked me up. He's like, and he gave
- 8:55Speaker 3: me a nod. I'm like, I had to go and
- 8:58Speaker 3: hit him, but he gave me a concussion.
- 9:00Speaker 1: A concussion, yeah, man, we had I will say this
- 9:04Speaker 1: about Detroit though. Man, when you when you play the
- 9:06Speaker 1: team into the division, you know them well, you play
- 9:10Speaker 1: them twice a year. But those are some I don't
- 9:12Speaker 1: care if we were ten and OZ. When you guys
- 9:14Speaker 1: are on ten or whatever the record was, those are
- 9:17Speaker 1: always the toughest games.
- 9:19Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:20Speaker 1: You know, when we were in Carolina, we played Atlanta.
- 9:24Speaker 1: We should have smashed Atlanta, and they came up and
- 9:26Speaker 1: beat the crap out of us.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And that was here. We went to the super Bowl.
- 9:29Speaker 2: We had a great team.
- 9:30Speaker 1: It's just for whatever, for whatever reason, those teams that
- 9:33Speaker 1: are in your division, they know every little thing and
- 9:38Speaker 1: niche about you. And the way you get past that
- 9:41Speaker 1: is the team who makes the fewest mistakes or executes
- 9:45Speaker 1: the best. That's the team that's actually.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Gonna win that.
- 9:48Speaker 4: All right, It's one quick story here, I gotta get in.
- 9:51Speaker 4: And this is because it was literally the first time
- 9:53Speaker 4: anying by the NFL had ever done this and so
- 9:56Speaker 4: we're in New Orleans, Detroit is coming in.
- 9:58Speaker 2: It was early in Calvin's career.
- 10:01Speaker 4: And literally we put two guys on Calvin right on
- 10:04Speaker 4: the goal line just to tell Matthew Stafford, like, you're
- 10:07Speaker 4: not going to throw it here. And it was the
- 10:09Speaker 4: first time anybody ever done this. So when we line
- 10:11Speaker 4: up two guys right in front of you in the
- 10:13Speaker 4: red zone, number one, what goes through your mind? And
- 10:16Speaker 4: then when you guys go through the sidelines, like why
- 10:18Speaker 4: did this discussion go on? Because I know what we
- 10:20Speaker 4: were thinking or what we were trying to do, which
- 10:23Speaker 4: we were just gonna say, we don't care if we
- 10:25Speaker 4: play with nine guys everybody else but like you can't
- 10:27Speaker 4: do it.
- 10:28Speaker 2: So what happened on you guys side?
- 10:30Speaker 3: When I first saw that, when I lined up and
- 10:32Speaker 3: I saw I'm like, okay, this is But my initial
- 10:34Speaker 3: thought was like, okay, they're like y'all were like on
- 10:36Speaker 3: my on my shoulders. I'm like, I could split these
- 10:37Speaker 3: guys and still go up and get it. That's what
- 10:39Speaker 3: I'm thinking. Yeah, But I know Matthew when he looked
- 10:41Speaker 3: out there, I know he was like I knew that.
- 10:43Speaker 3: That's the first thing he said but I'm thinking my mind.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I'm sitting here like every time, I'm like, dude, just
- 10:47Speaker 3: throw the ball up, Just throw it up, give me
- 10:49Speaker 3: a chance, you know. But yeah, Matthew, when he saw that,
- 10:51Speaker 3: he was like, oh yeah, you didn't have a chance.
- 10:53Speaker 3: He told me that. He was like, yeah, when I
- 10:54Speaker 3: saw that, I was like, you weren't getting the ball.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I'm curious to know like we would. We would watch.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You day in and day out, week in and week out,
- 11:05Speaker 1: year in and year out, dominate players all the time.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I think y'all played Cincinnati and you caught it over
- 11:14Speaker 1: three dudes. You played Dallas, you caught it over like
- 11:17Speaker 1: two or three dudes, And I'm just like, man, this
- 11:19Speaker 1: dude at here, what is it like this? Y'all got
- 11:22Speaker 1: like three DB's on, you got a free strong and
- 11:25Speaker 1: a corner.
- 11:26Speaker 2: And he's still cancl it over.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Y'all, At what point did you realize you could dominate
- 11:31Speaker 1: this game?
- 11:34Speaker 3: Probably like after my second year, now, my rookie year,
- 11:37Speaker 3: I had a couple of injuries. My second year, I
- 11:39Speaker 3: came out strong, had a really good season, like thirteen
- 11:42Speaker 3: hundred twelve thirteen hundred yards, and there's that point where
- 11:45Speaker 3: you know, we're really you know, Sean Jefferson, my coach,
- 11:49Speaker 3: you know, we looked at each other at in the season.
- 11:51Speaker 3: He was like, man, once you go into all season,
- 11:52Speaker 3: take a good look at yourself in the mirror, because
- 11:54Speaker 3: what you did this year, it's got to be better
- 11:56Speaker 3: next year. I'm like, shoot, how I never hit thirteen before?
- 11:59Speaker 3: But that's how he all just kept pushing. Man, just
- 12:01Speaker 3: take a look in the mirror. Let's look at our weaknesses. Yeah,
- 12:04Speaker 3: we know what our strengths are, but we're gonna work
- 12:05Speaker 3: on those end weaknesses. Day by day. Pick a pick
- 12:08Speaker 3: an attribute, we're gonna work on it, and then by
- 12:10Speaker 3: the end of the season, you know, by the end
- 12:11Speaker 3: of training camp or what have you. If you take
- 12:13Speaker 3: that approach, working on that one attribute that you need
- 12:15Speaker 3: assistance in, obviously not neglecting everything else, but really's putting
- 12:18Speaker 3: a special focus on that. You know, you're gonna see
- 12:20Speaker 3: that attributes tend to tend to level up with the
- 12:23Speaker 3: rest of the things that you're good with. So just
- 12:24Speaker 3: taking those attributes one thing day by day, addam adam
- 12:28Speaker 3: to the repertoire, or just building upon your toolkit and uh,
- 12:32Speaker 3: you know I'm able to You're able to you know,
- 12:34Speaker 3: just you know, do the things that we're doing doing
- 12:36Speaker 3: on the field. Yeah, be successful.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Yeah, so did you I know, what's my favorite pick?
- 12:41Speaker 1: I know, I gotta I got a favorite play that like,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I think that like kind of stood out for me.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Nineteen hundred yards in one season, thirteen twelve hundred one season,
- 12:53Speaker 1: thirteen hundred another season. Out of out of the nine years,
- 12:57Speaker 1: with thousands of catches that you've had, what's been like
- 13:01Speaker 1: your number one catch? What's been your favorite catch? Slash touchdown?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Now you wouldn't even touch down. It's an overtime play.
- 13:07Speaker 3: We're down in Temple. Drew Stanton was our quarterback. Matthew
- 13:10Speaker 3: went down. He was hurt, and it was the It's
- 13:13Speaker 3: probably one of the coldest toe girl toe taps I've
- 13:15Speaker 3: had because it wasn't it wasn't a typical toe tap.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Ran to come back, nice smooth route, had to do running.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I come back, but I'm on the sideline already and
- 13:25Speaker 3: Drews has the ball. The ball is up high and
- 13:27Speaker 3: I can't jump. Unfortunately, it's probably like just like seven
- 13:30Speaker 3: eight feet in the air, and I had a I
- 13:32Speaker 3: had literally had my toe. My heels were all the
- 13:34Speaker 3: way off the sideline. Literally, if this is the sideline,
- 13:37Speaker 3: he was over the side. I was on the toes,
- 13:39Speaker 3: on my toes, just keeping my feet in bounce and
- 13:42Speaker 3: came down with a catch and overtime to help Jason
- 13:45Speaker 3: Hanson go in to kick the game within the field goal.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Nobody really knows about that one because you don't get seen.
- 13:49Speaker 3: But its most proud because the route was crispy and
- 13:54Speaker 3: just the fundamentals and then then just the toe drag
- 13:57Speaker 3: like it wasn't even tow dragt swag like I hadn't
- 13:58Speaker 3: seen nobody catch a ball like that. Both just your
- 14:01Speaker 3: toes that are on the field and it was like
- 14:04Speaker 3: this lean back. So it was even I made a
- 14:06Speaker 3: bunch of crazy catches, but you know, just the moment
- 14:09Speaker 3: in the game where that was, you know, you know
- 14:12Speaker 3: how impactful it was. Obviously there's a lot of crazy
- 14:15Speaker 3: I made catches on top of folks, you know. I mean,
- 14:17Speaker 3: I take the most pride in that, you know, seeing
- 14:19Speaker 3: Randy Moss do it back in the day. I just
- 14:21Speaker 3: want to take those attributes from Randy t o just
- 14:23Speaker 3: all those guys I watched growing up just do a
- 14:25Speaker 3: little better.
- 14:26Speaker 5: We're going to take a short break and we'll be
- 14:28Speaker 5: back in a minute.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Now, you talk about all your attributes and all those
- 14:46Speaker 4: other things, and what attributes would you say attributed to
- 14:50Speaker 4: what you're doing now, which is what got you into
- 14:52Speaker 4: the medical cannabis industry.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Huh. Really, just my hardhead in this really just going
- 14:58Speaker 3: hard all the time. That's why in this cannabis in
- 15:01Speaker 3: That's why I needed all these bumps and bruises, you know,
- 15:05Speaker 3: but from you know all the time, you know, we
- 15:08Speaker 3: have those bumps and bruises, and just I used cannabis
- 15:11Speaker 3: while I played, and you know it was it only
- 15:14Speaker 3: really started using it when I got to the lead.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I used a little bit in college, but when I
- 15:17Speaker 3: got to the league, it really was helping me when
- 15:19Speaker 3: I get to sleep, you know, limit the pain, Like
- 15:21Speaker 3: after practice going home, you know, you know, when I
- 15:23Speaker 3: get home, my light one up just because like I
- 15:25Speaker 3: get home and I'm aching. I always had chronic swelling
- 15:28Speaker 3: in my knees and ankles, and there wasn't really anything
- 15:30Speaker 3: to you know, really help that.
- 15:32Speaker 1: You just had these ice But did you but did
- 15:33Speaker 1: you know the marijuana was helping age you or was
- 15:37Speaker 1: it just like no, I just want to get high.
- 15:38Speaker 3: It helped me with my quality of life. God it
- 15:40Speaker 3: as far as you know, being able to sleep and
- 15:42Speaker 3: not have no problem at night, you know, just numbing
- 15:44Speaker 3: the pain. Yeah, you know, But it really wasn't until
- 15:46Speaker 3: I was able to use it in a different application,
- 15:48Speaker 3: you know, from different from smoking and actually using it
- 15:50Speaker 3: in a topical form, when I was really like light bulb,
- 15:53Speaker 3: you know. Okay, let's get down to the science of this,
- 15:55Speaker 3: because there's something here.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Right, So you got out what was your last year?
- 15:59Speaker 3: Fifteen?
- 16:00Speaker 2: So your last year was fifteen?
- 16:01Speaker 1: How long would you say it took you to have
- 16:05Speaker 1: a understanding and start your own practice and go out
- 16:10Speaker 1: and speak the way you speak about it because you're
- 16:13Speaker 1: passionate about it.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I love that about you. But like, what how long did.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Would you say it took you to be or to
- 16:21Speaker 1: become warre you are right now rather than just all right,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I'm just like one up just for quality of life.
- 16:26Speaker 3: When I got done playing that, I mean I had
- 16:27Speaker 3: I did a couple of different things, just trying to figure
- 16:29Speaker 3: out where I wanted to be at with timing. Timing
- 16:32Speaker 3: is everything. Cannabis injury came along in Michigan. I was
- 16:36Speaker 3: passionate about it, and it's mainly yeah, I used to
- 16:38Speaker 3: while I was playing, But when I was on the
- 16:39Speaker 3: Dancing with the Stars show, that's when I really that's
- 16:41Speaker 3: when the light bulb went off because I wanted to
- 16:43Speaker 3: Dance with the Stars show and.
- 16:45Speaker 2: They with you long hours too, bro, Really don't let
- 16:48Speaker 2: them trick long hours, trick long out a.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Hell of an experience. If you like the movie, you
- 16:52Speaker 3: like to dance, like to be active, you know, it's experience.
- 16:56Speaker 3: To the finals. I was in third place, okay, but
- 16:59Speaker 3: you're based the finals, you get your bonus, so it
- 17:01Speaker 3: was good. But I was in the show about three
- 17:04Speaker 3: weeks and you know, you're dancing, bro, it's like footwork,
- 17:07Speaker 3: It's just like and my ankles and my knees started
- 17:10Speaker 3: to swoll up again on me. So we got to
- 17:12Speaker 3: the point where I was just like, you know, I
- 17:14Speaker 3: can't move out here like I need to. It's like
- 17:15Speaker 3: when I got done planning, I can't move. I can't
- 17:18Speaker 3: have the explosion. And I would look at my ankles
- 17:20Speaker 3: like balloons. And my buddy. I told my buddy when
- 17:23Speaker 3: to Georgia Tech with him. He's in the film industry
- 17:25Speaker 3: out there in Cali. I was like, man, I don't
- 17:27Speaker 3: have to quit the show because I like, I just
- 17:29Speaker 3: hang out with him whenever I went out there and
- 17:30Speaker 3: I was like, bro, I can't move, my ankles are swollen,
- 17:33Speaker 3: my knees are swollen. Like I can't do all that.
- 17:35Speaker 3: I can't do all the moves and whatnot. And he
- 17:37Speaker 3: break in. He brought me a topical I remember, the
- 17:39Speaker 3: green glass jar with a gold cap. Used it. A
- 17:41Speaker 3: couple of days later, my swelling started to go down,
- 17:43Speaker 3: and it stayed down, and I kept on using I'm like, okay,
- 17:46Speaker 3: there's something here. There's something here. And that's where I mean.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I was already passionate about Cannon because I knew it
- 17:50Speaker 3: helped me a little bit, but to really know that
- 17:52Speaker 3: there's something more to it, that's when I was like, Okay,
- 17:54Speaker 3: let's get to the science.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Of it all right, now, what is the long term
- 17:58Speaker 4: plan for your specifically? I know you're talking about expanding
- 18:02Speaker 4: into Boston and some other areas. I know you've been
- 18:05Speaker 4: down in Alabama doing work with some of the hospitals
- 18:08Speaker 4: and different people down there. Maybe share with some of
- 18:10Speaker 4: the people you know. I'm good friends of Rob Sims and.
- 18:13Speaker 2: His wife of course, Natalie. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Yeah, we went to school with his wife, Natalie and
- 18:17Speaker 4: stuff like that. So I've got to know the other
- 18:20Speaker 4: side of it. And I know some of your business partners,
- 18:22Speaker 4: and I know what you guys are thinking, but I
- 18:24Speaker 4: want you to share with some of our listeners some
- 18:26Speaker 4: of the long term plans of what Calvin Johnson in
- 18:28Speaker 4: this group is doing.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and we call it, I mean, our company is
- 18:30Speaker 3: called Primitive. Called primitive because people have been using cannabis
- 18:33Speaker 3: for thousands of a year, so by definition it is primitive.
- 18:36Speaker 3: But we really truly believe in the healing powers of
- 18:38Speaker 3: the plant. We're here, we're advocates for the industry. We're
- 18:41Speaker 3: trying to destigmatize it, but at the same time come
- 18:43Speaker 3: up with new innovative products. And that's what that's what
- 18:46Speaker 3: I'm excited about right now, because we're getting to that
- 18:48Speaker 3: point where we're being able to create these new innovative products.
- 18:51Speaker 3: And we talk about innovation in cannabis, you know, we're
- 18:54Speaker 3: talking about bringing like, you know, pharmaceutical grade equipment and
- 18:57Speaker 3: using it with cannabis, you know, And that's what we're
- 18:59Speaker 3: doing right now. And with that, we're able to create
- 19:02Speaker 3: the cannabis particles and such a small size using nanotechnology
- 19:06Speaker 3: that it's more efficient. You know, talent all and all
- 19:08Speaker 3: those things. It's nanotechnology. It's small particle size that's able
- 19:11Speaker 3: to bypass through your intestinal system and get into the bloodstream,
- 19:14Speaker 3: therefore making it more effective. So just creating products of
- 19:18Speaker 3: that sort, and we're just scratching the surface. You know.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Our first two products that we came out with is
- 19:22Speaker 3: a ORRS, which is an oral rehydration solution and the
- 19:25Speaker 3: topical cream. The reason why we came out with those
- 19:27Speaker 3: because we used them religiously when we played got to
- 19:30Speaker 3: stay hydrated. It's key, and you get the topicals that
- 19:33Speaker 3: we used. It was just cooling and heating. There was
- 19:35Speaker 3: really no function to it. But now we're able to
- 19:37Speaker 3: add cannabinoids to it. We're able to ad cannabinoids to it, CBD, CBG, CBC,
- 19:44Speaker 3: CBD or CBG. Adding these cannabinoids to them increases the
- 19:49Speaker 3: anti inflammation of properties that you're putting into your body.
- 19:52Speaker 3: So and those different cannabinoids have proven to be anti inflammatory.
- 19:58Speaker 3: So it's inciting man just being able to bring these
- 20:00Speaker 3: products to market that will be effective for the masses.
- 20:04Speaker 4: I know we got to go here and I want
- 20:06Speaker 4: to ask you the same question we always trying to
- 20:08Speaker 4: ask everybody before we let you off the hot seat.
- 20:11Speaker 4: I know you got to catch a flight, but who
- 20:14Speaker 4: is in your mount Rushmore of influence? Whether it's coaches,
- 20:18Speaker 4: paying family. It's only four, but I would like to
- 20:21Speaker 4: know your mount More Rushmore.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Rushmore of influence. I don't want to say parents.
- 20:28Speaker 3: That's two. It's giving one want entity, we let you
- 20:34Speaker 3: have one. So I got my parents. Derek Moore, he
- 20:37Speaker 3: was my chaplain at Georgia Tech. You know, it really
- 20:39Speaker 3: spoke to me spiritually, really got me in a place
- 20:42Speaker 3: where I was able to be my own believer, you know,
- 20:45Speaker 3: and not that I wasn't going into college, but to
- 20:49Speaker 3: you know, do it yourself. You know, to understand, have
- 20:51Speaker 3: an understanding for yourself is different than just when you're
- 20:54Speaker 3: coming up and you know, getting it from your family
- 20:56Speaker 3: and the church. So my parents, Derek Moore, Jefferson, my
- 21:01Speaker 3: receiver coach. You know, he was a great player, but
- 21:04Speaker 3: he's a great man. You know, not only did he
- 21:06Speaker 3: teach us how to be great players, but his biggest,
- 21:08Speaker 3: bigger focus was on being a better man. All the
- 21:12Speaker 3: skills he taught me, you know, it was you know, shoot.
- 21:15Speaker 3: You know, all the different sayings, you know, keep stacking
- 21:18Speaker 3: or you know, stay ready so you don't have to
- 21:21Speaker 3: get ready. All those things ring true and there's legitimate
- 21:25Speaker 3: meaning behind all those things. And lastly, this last one's tough.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I'm gonna say my big sister, and Big says, it
- 21:35Speaker 3: has been such an influence in my life. Positive influence.
- 21:37Speaker 3: You know, she's the doctor. When I was growing up,
- 21:40Speaker 3: she was my tutor, you know, for her. If it
- 21:42Speaker 3: wasn't for her, you know, I might have went and
- 21:43Speaker 3: played Major League baseball out of high school, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 3: and not even went to college and played. So I
- 21:48Speaker 3: was able to get the college experience because she was
- 21:50Speaker 3: tutoring me at Clark Atlanta University. I got to be
- 21:52Speaker 3: around at AUC and just see what it's like to
- 21:54Speaker 3: be in college. I was like, oh, I can't forego this.
- 21:56Speaker 3: So half my big sister. I have a tremendous amount
- 21:59Speaker 3: of love for her. You know, she helps me with
- 22:00Speaker 3: my foundation. So's she's all and everything to us too.
- 22:04Speaker 3: So those are those are my top four.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Well, Calvin, thank you, brother, I know you gotta catch
- 22:08Speaker 2: a flight.
- 22:09Speaker 3: I appreciate John Man. I love it. This is great man.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Love to catch up with y'all, man do this more. So.
- 22:20Speaker 1: We just finished up interview on Calvin Johnson, and I
- 22:23Speaker 1: told you all the first half of the story about
- 22:26Speaker 1: the first time that we played him. What I forgot
- 22:28Speaker 1: to mention is the second half of that story. So
- 22:32Speaker 1: second half we go in, we're going for halftime and
- 22:35Speaker 1: coach Smith he comes to me and says, lovely Smith,
- 22:37Speaker 1: Love Smith.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yes, lovey Smith.
- 22:39Speaker 1: He comes over and then they say, hey, we're gonna
- 22:41Speaker 1: make a defensive adjustment real quick. We're gonna put you
- 22:45Speaker 1: back on Calvin. Things aren't working out too well for Zach,
- 22:48Speaker 1: So you line up on Calvin.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Line up on Calvin. Second half, do my thing.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I mean, he catches a couple passes, but for the
- 22:55Speaker 1: most part, I think I do a pretty good job of,
- 22:58Speaker 1: you know, locking him down well. Toward the end of
- 23:01Speaker 1: the game or really like the last one of the
- 23:03Speaker 1: last plays, I'm on the left, I'm on the right side.
- 23:07Speaker 1: They put some crazy formation in. Calvin didn't get the
- 23:10Speaker 1: lineup on my side. I think he was in the
- 23:12Speaker 1: slot and he motion back across the field. Yes, we're
- 23:14Speaker 1: gonna get him away from Peanut, and he got him
- 23:16Speaker 1: away from me. It was great matchup. So he's matched
- 23:19Speaker 1: up back on Zach and then I don't know the
- 23:23Speaker 1: exact play, but I remember jamming my guy and I
- 23:26Speaker 1: looked across the field and quarterback throws it.
- 23:30Speaker 2: He catches it. I mean it was a It was
- 23:32Speaker 2: an amazing catch kind of in the back half corner
- 23:35Speaker 2: of the end zone.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Yep, two feet falls down, sat there for a second,
- 23:41Speaker 1: and then he used the ball to actually get up,
- 23:44Speaker 1: to get up and stand up, and then the rough
- 23:46Speaker 1: feree was like, no catch, no catch, no catch.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Well, it's also because when he used the ball to
- 23:51Speaker 4: get up, the ball moved and it like squirted off
- 23:54Speaker 4: to the side and he got up celebrating. For those
- 23:56Speaker 4: that you can go back and watch this plays, this
- 23:58Speaker 4: is what brought up the whole is it a ca
- 24:00Speaker 4: catch no catch rule? I know Dez Bryant was another
- 24:03Speaker 4: big one later on versus Stream, but this was one
- 24:06Speaker 4: of the first real examples that you saw it. Calvin
- 24:09Speaker 4: Johnson clearly caught this touchdown. He caught the ball, got
- 24:12Speaker 4: up to celebrate, used the ball as.
- 24:13Speaker 2: He was getting up, and it was a no catch.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Yeah, seventeen years later, I can I can honestly say, yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 1: the man Calvin called he called the football. It was
- 24:22Speaker 1: a you know, it should have been a touchdown.
- 24:24Speaker 2: At the moment. At the time, I was like, no,
- 24:26Speaker 2: we won that game. Who so tell me because that's
- 24:29Speaker 2: what I saw. I wanted.
- 24:30Speaker 4: You know, when you're on the sidelines, you see this
- 24:32Speaker 4: guy catch the ball, so your mind is it was
- 24:35Speaker 4: a touchdown.
- 24:36Speaker 1: When I first saw it, yes, live on the other
- 24:39Speaker 1: side of the field, I looked as like, oh.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Damn, mat oh damn, he called it.
- 24:43Speaker 3: He called it.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Oh, no, touch he really caught that. But hey, let's
- 24:46Speaker 2: get off the field.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Look, so so go as a dB because we always
- 24:50Speaker 4: take the dB side. At what point, du You're like, man,
- 24:53Speaker 4: I mean they kind of got cheated. That was kind
- 24:55Speaker 4: of a touchdown immediately.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I mean we talked about in the locker room. It's like,
- 24:59Speaker 1: you think that was a hell yeah, it was a catch.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I don't know how they didn't know it, But I'll
- 25:04Speaker 2: take the win, you know what I'm saying. It's gonna
- 25:07Speaker 2: help us out.
- 25:07Speaker 1: But yeah, I think everyone knew it was a catch.
- 25:10Speaker 1: He knew it was a catch. Yeah, that's just one
- 25:12Speaker 1: less touchdown he has on his stat book. But clearly
- 25:15Speaker 1: everyone knows it was a catch. Calvin torched us that
- 25:18Speaker 1: game and they should have won the game, but they didn't.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Sorry, make a tron.
- 25:24Speaker 1: We got the dub, but it was a catch, bro,
- 25:26Speaker 1: It was a hell of a catch too. Thank you
- 25:30Speaker 1: guys for listening. You know, with every show we do,
