- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. If you were hoping for instant
- 0:19Speaker 1: replay for roughing the pastor, I got bad news for you.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's probably not gonna happen. We are live at the
- 0:23Speaker 1: League meeting in New York. Coming up shortly. This is
- 0:26Speaker 1: a Tuesday edition of NFL Now on NFL Network. By
- 0:29Speaker 1: name is andrews Ceciliano. This right here a man who
- 0:32Speaker 1: went to a game last night at Sofi Stadium. How
- 0:34Speaker 1: are you, Steve one? Doing good? And the way those
- 0:35Speaker 1: quarterbacks are getting hit last night without the roughing penalty
- 0:38Speaker 1: that was interesting as well. There there were some big hits. Yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and there was one also interesting roughing the pastor call
- 0:43Speaker 1: as well against the Broncos on Justin Herbert. Will get
- 0:47Speaker 1: to that in a little bit, but let's get to
- 0:48Speaker 1: the highlight of that game. Speaking of Justin Herbert, even
- 0:52Speaker 1: with the rib cartilage injury, Chargers have been playing well.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Rand the ball last week very well. In Cleveland. Russell
- 0:58Speaker 1: Wilson trying to get it going early and he did.
- 1:00Speaker 1: He opened ten for ten. This is a touchdown of
- 1:02Speaker 1: the Rockie, the local kid, Greg Dolson, I mean wide open,
- 1:06Speaker 1: but naked open, as they like to say. But Wilson
- 1:09Speaker 1: stepped up and created space, and we would want to
- 1:11Speaker 1: see him do lack Kenyatta in the house and then
- 1:14Speaker 1: Austin Ekeler into the end zone. How about this push
- 1:17Speaker 1: was Starr touchdown for Austin Ekeler coming off a huge
- 1:22Speaker 1: game last week? Yeah, I mean you gotta think his
- 1:24Speaker 1: offensive line for creating the whole land pushing him through
- 1:27Speaker 1: the story of this game became Dustin hock Yes, okay,
- 1:30Speaker 1: Dustin Hopkins. This is after the extra point of the
- 1:32Speaker 1: Eckler touchdown grabs is right handy. They would wrap up
- 1:34Speaker 1: that hamstring, get Mr Miyagi to work on it. We
- 1:37Speaker 1: kept cutting the Dustin Hopkins. He didn't leave the game.
- 1:40Speaker 1: He kept coming back, hitting kicks and then falling over
- 1:44Speaker 1: in pain. This tide it at seventeen or rather at
- 1:48Speaker 1: sixteen drama, drama, and sent it to overtime. We thought
- 1:53Speaker 1: it might end in a tie. But then p J
- 1:57Speaker 1: lock Up pushed into the return man Montreal Washington and
- 2:00Speaker 1: we have a muff punt. I mean, that's just a
- 2:02Speaker 1: tough play. The blocker gets pushed into him. I can't
- 2:05Speaker 1: really see it because he's looking up at the ball
- 2:08Speaker 1: and that results the Charges get an opportunity to win it,
- 2:11Speaker 1: and that opportunity off the right foot and thanks to
- 2:14Speaker 1: the right hamstring sore as it maybe from one dusted
- 2:16Speaker 1: Hoskins who nails the field goal. Four for four, fighting
- 2:20Speaker 1: through pain, kicking through pain kicking Justin Herbert and the
- 2:24Speaker 1: Chargers to a nineteen sixteen Monday Night win. That's huge,
- 2:28Speaker 1: you know, like you mentioned, um, you know two years ago,
- 2:31Speaker 1: maybe that's a different story. And for us to go
- 2:32Speaker 1: out and close and finishing, to get that turnover on
- 2:35Speaker 1: special teams like that is huge for us and um,
- 2:37Speaker 1: just to just stay in the fight, come back from
- 2:39Speaker 1: teno early on, you know, it says a lot about
- 2:42Speaker 1: our team. All right, let's get to New York. Here
- 2:45Speaker 1: are the York's New York So we did their well.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Darne Maccarro Francis Owners Meeting, League Meeting quarterly meeting there
- 2:53Speaker 1: in New York. There shot Town owner of the Jaguars.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Let's find out some of the news there. Ian Rappapore,
- 2:59Speaker 1: Tom pill Sero, Judy Batista now live from New York
- 3:02Speaker 1: with all the talk Judy about roughing the past, sir,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but it seems like as expected, if the fans wanted
- 3:09Speaker 1: any movement from this meeting, that's not gonna happen. Well,
- 3:12Speaker 1: we'll see. We've got a long way to go on
- 3:14Speaker 1: this season and then in the off season. But we
- 3:16Speaker 1: just had a briefing from Troy Vincent from the league
- 3:19Speaker 1: and Rich McKay, who is a leader of the Competition Committee,
- 3:22Speaker 1: and they said, unexpectedly, the owners actually talked quite a
- 3:26Speaker 1: bit about roughing the pastor not on the agenda, but
- 3:29Speaker 1: this is how it goes. When the owners want to
- 3:30Speaker 1: talk about something, they talk about something. They described the
- 3:33Speaker 1: conversation as healthy and spirited. A few takeaways from that
- 3:38Speaker 1: Roughing the pastor calls are down forty percent so far
- 3:42Speaker 1: this season, a very significant drop, and they are not
- 3:45Speaker 1: backing off the idea that protecting the quarterbacks health is
- 3:48Speaker 1: a top priority. Uh. Troy Vincent said, the game is
- 3:52Speaker 1: not softer, it's a safer game. And then he said,
- 3:55Speaker 1: ninety one of the most watched one programs last year
- 3:59Speaker 1: we're football, and that is because of the quarterbacks, because
- 4:02Speaker 1: of the young quarterbacks in the game. And he said,
- 4:04Speaker 1: if you don't have a healthy quarterback, you know you
- 4:06Speaker 1: have no chance to win so that tells you where
- 4:09Speaker 1: their line of thinking is. And I can tell you
- 4:10Speaker 1: from listening to Rich and Troy, there does not seem
- 4:13Speaker 1: to be any appetite to make this reviewable. Rich McKay
- 4:16Speaker 1: went in depth into how badly it was when they
- 4:19Speaker 1: made defensive past interference reviewable a few years ago. That
- 4:22Speaker 1: lasted only a year before they threw that out the
- 4:24Speaker 1: window because it was such a mess. Uh. And they
- 4:27Speaker 1: certainly made the case that if you're looking at the
- 4:29Speaker 1: idea of reviewing roughing the past or you got to
- 4:33Speaker 1: do a deep dive into this and really think about
- 4:36Speaker 1: what you want reviewable. Yeah, and you know, if you
- 4:39Speaker 1: judge some of the words of Rich McKay here, Judy,
- 4:42Speaker 1: what he essentially does not want us to reofficiate the
- 4:45Speaker 1: plays through replay through slow motion. And you know we
- 4:49Speaker 1: see this happen all the time where there's a bang
- 4:51Speaker 1: bang play a judge McCall made by an official and
- 4:53Speaker 1: then we see it in super slow motion. Maybe it
- 4:55Speaker 1: looks a little different, which theoretically you could do, but
- 4:58Speaker 1: you'd have to do a whole scale change and alteration. Basically,
- 5:02Speaker 1: everything we know about the name of football and officiating
- 5:05Speaker 1: does not seem like there's any appetite for that. As
- 5:07Speaker 1: you mentioned, and you know, one of the more colorful
- 5:10Speaker 1: moments of the briefing Tom was when Rich McKay kind
- 5:12Speaker 1: of flogged himself for getting lulled into allowing p i
- 5:17Speaker 1: s to be reviewable. It doesn't seem like that is
- 5:19Speaker 1: going to happen again, but you know, I I for one,
- 5:22Speaker 1: was really struck by the uh, just the over emphasis
- 5:27Speaker 1: on making sure the quarterback has protected almost saying some
- 5:31Speaker 1: of these penalties are okay as long as the results
- 5:34Speaker 1: in the quarterback being safer. There's a telling quote from
- 5:37Speaker 1: Troy Vincent in that press conference talking about the roughing
- 5:39Speaker 1: the pastor palty on Grady Jared, and he said, and
- 5:41Speaker 1: he was choosing his words carefully, that's one you would
- 5:44Speaker 1: not like to see. But philosophically you could support it.
- 5:48Speaker 1: In other words, under the language of the rule and
- 5:50Speaker 1: the fact this is a judgment call that is within
- 5:54Speaker 1: the referees authority. Even if you'd say, well, this is
- 5:56Speaker 1: probably not the right one to call, you can understand
- 5:59Speaker 1: why it's called. That also would mean if this were
- 6:01Speaker 1: reviewable under the current standard, which is clear and obvious
- 6:04Speaker 1: evidence to over hearn it, that play probably would not
- 6:07Speaker 1: have been overturned upon replay. So that's where then Rich
- 6:09Speaker 1: McKay was talking about, do you create an entirely different
- 6:12Speaker 1: standard that is truly substituting one person's judgment for another
- 6:15Speaker 1: reofficiating rather than saying, when in doubt, let the call stand.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Let's also remember when that pass interference review went into effect,
- 6:24Speaker 1: that was unlike any other rule change we've ever seen,
- 6:26Speaker 1: because basically they came up with the idea at the meeting.
- 6:30Speaker 1: The coaches got to Gary said, we want to do this. Statistically,
- 6:33Speaker 1: pass interference has the biggest impact on games, it's the
- 6:36Speaker 1: most yards. We want to change it. So they passed
- 6:38Speaker 1: it and then figured out how it was going to work.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And that's what McKay talked about, is if you're ever
- 6:42Speaker 1: going to go down that path again, It's very clear
- 6:44Speaker 1: that Rich, much like the rest of the Competition Committee,
- 6:47Speaker 1: does not really or at least has strong reservations about
- 6:50Speaker 1: going down that path. You'd have to do a lot
- 6:52Speaker 1: of work to figure out how exactly that would operate
- 6:56Speaker 1: and avoid the scenario you had before, which is passing
- 6:58Speaker 1: something that sound good, good and then going, wait, how
- 7:01Speaker 1: do we do this? The the other thing that came
- 7:03Speaker 1: out of this as we sent it back to you
- 7:04Speaker 1: is scoring is down. They are not yet concerned about that.
- 7:07Speaker 1: They said, look, if you get at to the end
- 7:09Speaker 1: of the season and scoring is at around forty one
- 7:11Speaker 1: points per game, then they would look at it. But
- 7:13Speaker 1: right now it's it's still in the range that's acceptable
- 7:16Speaker 1: to them, okay. And if there was any change to
- 7:18Speaker 1: the rough of the past or officiating, it's not going
- 7:21Speaker 1: to come in season here. And the thing was a
- 7:24Speaker 1: direct result obviously of the NFC Championship game to Cole
- 7:26Speaker 1: Ruby Coleman, and they're still angry about that. In New
- 7:29Speaker 1: Orleans it lasted one year there. That rule change coming
- 7:33Speaker 1: up next. Aaron Rodgers says, simplify the offense. You're a
- 7:38Speaker 1: three time m v P. What does that mean? Also
- 7:42Speaker 1: back to New York, back to three dudes and cell
- 7:45Speaker 1: phones at a hotel lobby. When when? When? When? It's
- 7:51Speaker 1: the NFL Fall meeting going on right now, the owners
- 7:54Speaker 1: at others getting the other in New York. There is
- 7:57Speaker 1: Arthur Blank everyone on hand to do some league business.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Mr Marra on hand and as well home game for
- 8:07Speaker 1: him for this league meeting, quarterly meeting. Let's go live
- 8:11Speaker 1: very shall we. We swapped out Mike Gara Folo for
- 8:14Speaker 1: Judy Batista, class in the things up Ian Rappaport, Tom
- 8:18Speaker 1: Pellicero as well. No injury news here, League news, Judy.
- 8:21Speaker 1: What's on the agenda? Well, really, the topic that will
- 8:26Speaker 1: dominate the thoughts here is not on the agenda, but
- 8:29Speaker 1: it's likely to come up in conversation when the owners
- 8:31Speaker 1: are in their privileged session towards the end of the day,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and that is, of course the status of Washington owner
- 8:36Speaker 1: Daniel Snyder, who is currently the subject of I believe
- 8:39Speaker 1: it is five investigations, including one by the NFL into
- 8:44Speaker 1: the workplace culture in Washington and two potential financial irregularities
- 8:49Speaker 1: in Washington. Um, what we can say is there's there's
- 8:53Speaker 1: not going to be any action taken now and maybe
- 8:55Speaker 1: not ever, but certainly there has been a shift in
- 8:59Speaker 1: tone in the relationship between the league and Daniel Snyder,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and in talking to people around the league and to owners,
- 9:05Speaker 1: it is clear that there is a feeling among most
- 9:08Speaker 1: owners that they would prefer somebody else own that franchise.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Now that does not mean they are prepared to take
- 9:14Speaker 1: action to oust him, but certainly there is a feeling
- 9:18Speaker 1: that he has lost support among his fellow owners for
- 9:21Speaker 1: him to continue to remain in Washington. Yeah, and absolutely
- 9:25Speaker 1: right about that judgment from the people have spoken with that.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I think most people are on the same page, most owners, uh,
- 9:30Speaker 1: most notably on the same page with wishing that Daniel
- 9:32Speaker 1: Siner was not an owner, but saying that and getting
- 9:36Speaker 1: twenty four votes to oust him, As Roger Goodell has
- 9:39Speaker 1: discussed very publicly, that is the way it works. It's
- 9:41Speaker 1: not Goodell himself saying you're out. It's twenty four owners
- 9:46Speaker 1: voting to decide that Daniel Stiner can no longer own
- 9:48Speaker 1: the team. They are not there yet. And for my understanding,
- 9:51Speaker 1: Tom Jerry Jones, who is you know, so important and
- 9:54Speaker 1: influential to which direction this is all going to go,
- 9:57Speaker 1: is still on board with Daniel Center. If that changes,
- 10:00Speaker 1: that would be a dramatic turn and potentially something that
- 10:03Speaker 1: would be uh that would signal the end of Daniel
- 10:06Speaker 1: Snyder's tenure. But we are not there yet. So until
- 10:09Speaker 1: we are, he will remain and we will all wait
- 10:12Speaker 1: for the results of some of these many of these investigations.
- 10:16Speaker 1: There also is nothing and was never anything on the
- 10:19Speaker 1: agenda regarding roughing the passer or any other types of
- 10:22Speaker 1: officiating issues here, those are conversations to take place in
- 10:25Speaker 1: March six games, small sample size, they're not ready to
- 10:28Speaker 1: discuss those things yet, and to this point through six weeks,
- 10:31Speaker 1: the roughing calls are actually way down. There are updates
- 10:35Speaker 1: throughout the day on health and safety, diversity, equity and inclusion,
- 10:38Speaker 1: also the state of the game. That's always one of
- 10:41Speaker 1: the big things at this fall meeting. Scoring is a
- 10:43Speaker 1: little bit down, the number of plays run per game
- 10:46Speaker 1: is a little bit down, but margin of victory right
- 10:49Speaker 1: now is just eight point nine points per game. To
- 10:51Speaker 1: put that in perspective, the only other year ever where
- 10:54Speaker 1: it's under ten was in nineteen thirty two, ninety years ago,
- 10:58Speaker 1: when the Bears played three consecutive scoreless ties to start
- 11:01Speaker 1: the season ended up going on to win the championship. Here,
- 11:04Speaker 1: that's always some do they look at in terms of
- 11:06Speaker 1: competitive balance and the parody within the league, So small
- 11:09Speaker 1: margin of victories, even with some lower scoring games is
- 11:12Speaker 1: viewed as a positive within the room. We are expecting
- 11:14Speaker 1: to start getting updates here in the next few minutes
- 11:16Speaker 1: on as you said, health and safety and football operations,
- 11:19Speaker 1: and then again the privileged session, which is owners only
- 11:23Speaker 1: in the room. Um that will close out the day here.
- 11:26Speaker 1: That is when theoretically a Daniel Snyder conversation would happen.
- 11:30Speaker 1: But what they are going to do is they are
- 11:32Speaker 1: expected to approve a settlement um that will finally clear
- 11:36Speaker 1: the decks of who is paying for the relocation of
- 11:40Speaker 1: the Rams from St. Louis to l A. Of course,
- 11:43Speaker 1: the NFL was in court with St. Louis and there
- 11:47Speaker 1: is a substantial amount of money that has to be
- 11:49Speaker 1: paid out, and they have been arguing over that internally
- 11:53Speaker 1: among owners for quite a few months. And finally there
- 11:57Speaker 1: is a settlement in place that the owners will vote
- 11:59Speaker 1: on it is expected to pass them that will close
- 12:02Speaker 1: that chapter once and for all on the real location
- 12:05Speaker 1: of the Rams to Los Angeles. Alright, guys, thank you
- 12:08Speaker 1: nineteen thirty two for that note. Love. That's when the
- 12:11Speaker 1: Bears played at Wrigley Field. The Rams were still five
- 12:13Speaker 1: years away from being born. Is the Cleveland Rams in
- 12:17Speaker 1: ninety seven, So good history, way back machine there, Tom Palisero,
- 12:21Speaker 1: thank you, Tom Ian Judy. The Packers uh did play
- 12:25Speaker 1: at Lambo back in nineteen thirty two, if memory serves
- 12:28Speaker 1: granted I wasn't around UM the offense many people think
- 12:32Speaker 1: look like a Y two offense the last couple of
- 12:34Speaker 1: weeks and then after the loss of the Jets, Aaron
- 12:37Speaker 1: Rodgers said that he wants to simplify things. First of all,
- 12:42Speaker 1: you're gonna have to ask Aaron what he meant by that.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And second of all, I think that every week when
- 12:48Speaker 1: we go through a plan, we are on UM going
- 12:51Speaker 1: into the game on the same page like there's nothing there.
- 12:55Speaker 1: There's nothing that we put in UM when we put
- 13:00Speaker 1: in the game plan without having some communication with him,
- 13:05Speaker 1: because I don't. I don't want to put it in
- 13:07Speaker 1: if he doesn't feel good about it or uneasy about it.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Part of what he said was quote very simple plays
- 13:14Speaker 1: no motion. I guess that was part of it, at
- 13:17Speaker 1: least part of his description. What he was thinking. Okay, yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 1: but you're a big you're a big I'm not trying
- 13:23Speaker 1: to stir upont here, but you are a big motion
- 13:24Speaker 1: game sounds like you're trying to stir up. We never
- 13:27Speaker 1: want to do anything that's going to confuse our players,
- 13:30Speaker 1: and UM, certainly I don't. I don't want to put
- 13:33Speaker 1: our players in the spot where if like why why emotion.
- 13:37Speaker 1: If it's going to cause more confusion, I'm with that.
- 13:40Speaker 1: We don't want to do that. Interesting, Baldy, Steve White,
- 13:45Speaker 1: again a three time m v P, says he wants
- 13:49Speaker 1: to simplify things. For the record, two they played at
- 13:53Speaker 1: City Stadium, which is now the home of according to Wikipedia,
- 13:56Speaker 1: East High. Now that we have that out of the way,
- 13:58Speaker 1: but Baldy, what is simplifying the offense mean? I read
- 14:03Speaker 1: it kind of is like a shot at the rookies, like, well,
- 14:06Speaker 1: maybe you're not up to speed yet, we need to
- 14:09Speaker 1: dumb it down. Well, usually Andrew when they when you
- 14:13Speaker 1: talk about simplifying, it's to play faster, um, you know,
- 14:17Speaker 1: so that guys aren't thinking. And you know, we got
- 14:19Speaker 1: a lot of rookies out there and young offensive lineman.
- 14:22Speaker 1: But every single thing right now, from the two New
- 14:25Speaker 1: York losses that they've had, back to back shut out
- 14:28Speaker 1: by the Giants in London, they scored three points in
- 14:31Speaker 1: the first half, um, you know, in the first half
- 14:33Speaker 1: against the Jets, and when you watch it, they're beat
- 14:36Speaker 1: up up front on the offensive line, they're losing up front.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And then ultimately though and this is where Davante Adams
- 14:42Speaker 1: and the loss of Davanta Adams comes in. They have
- 14:45Speaker 1: literally no deep passing game. Every metric is down. They
- 14:48Speaker 1: can't get chunk plays. Aaron Rodgers is waiting up to
- 14:52Speaker 1: be able to throw that ball down the field right there,
- 14:53Speaker 1: but Quentin Williams knocked him right on his backside right
- 14:56Speaker 1: there as a fumble. They kicking the ball down the field.
- 14:59Speaker 1: They tried against the Giants, they were not successful. They
- 15:02Speaker 1: tried against Sauce Gardner and the Jets. They couldn't do it.
- 15:05Speaker 1: They can't get the deep ball down the field. They're trying,
- 15:08Speaker 1: but they have not been successful at it. Trade deadline
- 15:12Speaker 1: now fourteen days away, two weeks from today, Steve, can
- 15:16Speaker 1: they do anything? Randall Cobb is going to be out
- 15:18Speaker 1: for a while. I mean that that's I think they
- 15:19Speaker 1: have to. I mean they have to get involved. If
- 15:22Speaker 1: they're trying to make a run. And suppose this is
- 15:23Speaker 1: Aaron rodgers last year, one of his last They've got
- 15:26Speaker 1: to try to do something. They didn't necessarily go out
- 15:28Speaker 1: and do much in the off season. They have to
- 15:30Speaker 1: do something that Where that comes from, I don't know.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Is Kenny Golladay or someone like that available. Maybe Odell
- 15:36Speaker 1: Beckham is still not healthy yet. That is an issue.
- 15:39Speaker 1: But but here's something you have to take into account
- 15:41Speaker 1: and talk about. Okay, maybe simplify things. Their offense has worked, okay,
- 15:46Speaker 1: like in the second quarter of games. It's in the
- 15:48Speaker 1: second half of games where they fall apart last two
- 15:51Speaker 1: weeks but out scored twenty seven to two in the
- 15:55Speaker 1: fourth quarter. Okay, those are both losses. So as the
- 15:58Speaker 1: game goes on, the offense seems to be working, you know,
- 16:02Speaker 1: functioning more poorly and poorly. Is that lack of adjustments?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Is that people not making plays? That's where they need
- 16:09Speaker 1: to tighten the screws. I don't know if that's simplifying
- 16:12Speaker 1: things or guys just stepping up in the moment. We
- 16:15Speaker 1: just heard about the lack of point differential in wins.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Hey man, in the NFL, you gotta win tight games.
- 16:20Speaker 1: And if guys just don't have the stomach for it,
- 16:22Speaker 1: whatever it is, they've got to go out and get
- 16:24Speaker 1: here and Roger some help. I thought. One of the
- 16:26Speaker 1: under the radar storylines last week was the Matt Lafleur
- 16:29Speaker 1: Mike Lafloor storyline. Here the jets O c is Matt's brother,
- 16:34Speaker 1: Mike Flour Not that we haven't seen this system. So
- 16:38Speaker 1: many teams run this system. Now coming up next, you
- 16:43Speaker 1: heard the Russell Wilson Andre updates. How about the power
- 16:46Speaker 1: ranking updates? Are they free fallen? Well, let's you know
- 16:51Speaker 1: that's next. Hot off the press is a Tuesday tradition,
- 17:01Speaker 1: truly unlike any other. The day in hand zeus power
- 17:06Speaker 1: rankings on NFL dot Com rankings that still I believe
- 17:11Speaker 1: Dan for the second consecutive week. Seep White here as
- 17:13Speaker 1: well from the Peanut gallery. Have the Bills ahead of
- 17:17Speaker 1: the only remaining undefeated team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Are we
- 17:22Speaker 1: going to get the it's not the power rankings, or
- 17:25Speaker 1: rather the power standings, it's the power rankings. Answer, you
- 17:29Speaker 1: said it for me right now. What we're talking about, though,
- 17:31Speaker 1: there's the Big three and a whole lot of let's see.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I agree with that, and this is hard. It's getting harder.
- 17:37Speaker 1: It's supposed to be getting easier. It's getting harder. But
- 17:40Speaker 1: I'm under control. Everything's fine, okay. So the VIC three
- 17:42Speaker 1: are the Bills, the Eagles in the chiefs, right, and
- 17:45Speaker 1: then you even have kind of the vikings here as
- 17:47Speaker 1: the let's see, even though the five and one, yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I would put. If you could like visualize it, it
- 17:52Speaker 1: would be those three in this huge gap, like maybe
- 17:54Speaker 1: there's a mountain. You have the top of the mountain,
- 17:56Speaker 1: then maybe a quarter of the way up there's the
- 17:58Speaker 1: Vikings at four. And that's not disrespecting the Vikings. What
- 18:02Speaker 1: kind of is But I like the Vikings. I think
- 18:04Speaker 1: the Vikings are a good team. I think they're figuring
- 18:07Speaker 1: things out. They're winning games they were losing last year
- 18:10Speaker 1: under Mike Zimmer. But at the same time, they're not
- 18:13Speaker 1: a complete team. They're a team that needed a big
- 18:15Speaker 1: run from Dalvin Cook and a huge turnover in their
- 18:17Speaker 1: own end to get out of the get out of
- 18:20Speaker 1: Miami with a win. But five and one. It is
- 18:23Speaker 1: not the power standings. But in these uncertain times, I
- 18:25Speaker 1: give them credit for finding ways to win games when
- 18:27Speaker 1: so many teams are finding ways to lose them. All right,
- 18:29Speaker 1: let's get here to a team that Steve and I
- 18:31Speaker 1: were talking a lot about before. All right, the Cowboys.
- 18:34Speaker 1: They get Jack back. You still have the Cowboys behind
- 18:39Speaker 1: the Bengals, right, Cincinnati five, Dallas six. Even though Steve
- 18:43Speaker 1: didn't the didn't the Cowboys beat the Banks. Cowboys beat
- 18:46Speaker 1: the Bengals, But then Cowboys just took an l to
- 18:50Speaker 1: the Eagles, and I think, because is that what you
- 18:52Speaker 1: factored into this? Because here here's what I want to see,
- 18:56Speaker 1: a big pig. Guess these rankings show where the NFL
- 18:59Speaker 1: is when you talk about how hard it is to
- 19:01Speaker 1: rank some of these teams, Like the Vikings are four,
- 19:04Speaker 1: and I'd like, I said, most of the people are
- 19:06Speaker 1: in the NFL and be like, yeah, the Vikings are five,
- 19:09Speaker 1: but do we think you're a great team? And so
- 19:13Speaker 1: having the Cowboys behind the bank, I can't really argue
- 19:16Speaker 1: a record wise, even though I think if they went
- 19:18Speaker 1: head to head it would be a hell of a game.
- 19:21Speaker 1: But Dak has to play, so you factor some of
- 19:24Speaker 1: those things yet, And that's why I'm just kind of like, Hey,
- 19:27Speaker 1: the Bengals had a nice win over the Saints. Yeah,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I'd like Cincinnati. I really liked them finding a way
- 19:32Speaker 1: to make Jamar Chase Jamar Chase again and them popping
- 19:35Speaker 1: hood on that offense and getting explosive. I just get
- 19:38Speaker 1: a vibe that Burrow and Chase and Higgins with the
- 19:41Speaker 1: offensive line improving, are about to go on a run.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And in a league it's so close and condensed guys
- 19:47Speaker 1: of that caliber, with that talent level level getting hot
- 19:50Speaker 1: and getting protection. I could see Cincinnati going off here.
- 19:53Speaker 1: So I believe in them. I've kind of believed in
- 19:55Speaker 1: them all year. The Cowboys, it's I think this is
- 19:57Speaker 1: my fourth year doing power rakings for the NFL. No
- 20:00Speaker 1: team has ever lost and moved up four spots higher
- 20:03Speaker 1: up into the top ten. But again that that's about
- 20:06Speaker 1: the unique nature of what the season has been. I
- 20:09Speaker 1: believe in the Cowboys. I like how they comported themselves
- 20:11Speaker 1: in the second half and on a tough, difficult road environment,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and now with dak coming, they're okay. I like them.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I'd love to put them before, but they didn't win
- 20:20Speaker 1: on Sunday. If memory serves its two thousand and six, right, Adrian,
- 20:24Speaker 1: the last time both New York teams made the postseason
- 20:27Speaker 1: two thousand and six. All right, So your Jets are
- 20:30Speaker 1: up big there now above the cut line. They're up
- 20:33Speaker 1: four to thirteen hand zeus and the Giants are up
- 20:36Speaker 1: six spots to seven. Yeah. Seven, I mean, is there
- 20:41Speaker 1: anything stranger about what's going on in the league right now?
- 20:44Speaker 1: That the Jets and Giants are both power players? The Jets,
- 20:48Speaker 1: I try to have like maximum integrity here with the
- 20:51Speaker 1: Jets and not get too excited, but you look at
- 20:54Speaker 1: New York and what they have in the n Listen
- 20:56Speaker 1: to the podcast. I heard Sessler say that watching that
- 20:58Speaker 1: Jets game with you was unlike anything you know. I mean,
- 21:01Speaker 1: I believe, but who cares about what I believe? The
- 21:04Speaker 1: Jets and these young players believe they can beat anybody
- 21:07Speaker 1: now and once again in a hyper condensed league where
- 21:10Speaker 1: there's the Big three and then a huge soft underbelly,
- 21:13Speaker 1: they could beat almost anybody right now. And I think
- 21:15Speaker 1: Zach Wilson is a big question there with the Giants. Again,
- 21:19Speaker 1: you gotta look at the landscape. A team that's well coached,
- 21:22Speaker 1: that knows how to close, that has Barkley playing a
- 21:24Speaker 1: high level and win coaching up the defense. They're gonna
- 21:27Speaker 1: keep winning close games because there's not a real big
- 21:29Speaker 1: talent talent and team disparity across our league, as Troy
- 21:33Speaker 1: and you talk. We talked about it last week on
- 21:35Speaker 1: the podcast, and here they believe they win right now.
- 21:37Speaker 1: The Giants are going into games feeling they can win,
- 21:40Speaker 1: and I think the Jets are turning that corner as well,
- 21:44Speaker 1: like we think we're the better team. They may have
- 21:46Speaker 1: more talent, but we're rolling right now. And that's what
- 21:48Speaker 1: I think solid when I say they are the baby
- 21:50Speaker 1: forty Niners, but the Niners were a couple of years ago.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Where they're running the ball, they're beating people up on
- 21:55Speaker 1: both lines scrimmage, They've got something to work. And the
- 21:58Speaker 1: Jets are in Denver this week to play the Broncos.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Denver may not have Russell Wilson, Tom Pellicero, says Mr
- 22:04Speaker 1: Today on a hamstring injury. Denver is the biggest faller
- 22:08Speaker 1: if we go back to Week one where you have
- 22:11Speaker 1: him at the top ten at eight there now, dan At,
- 22:14Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not alone. I thought they were a
- 22:16Speaker 1: power player in the league. Obviously, Park Avenue thought the same.
- 22:19Speaker 1: With all the primetime games we've gotten the first six
- 22:21Speaker 1: coup and this has been just so hard to watch.
- 22:25Speaker 1: And I think the most frustrating thing, and I'm sure
- 22:27Speaker 1: Denver Fens are just dying this year, is that the
- 22:30Speaker 1: defense has been good, too great at times, and all
- 22:33Speaker 1: they have needed is league average offense. And they are
- 22:36Speaker 1: a top the a f C West. They are probably
- 22:38Speaker 1: tied with the Chiefs or maybe even ahead of them.
- 22:40Speaker 1: But instead this is the worst offense in football. There's
- 22:42Speaker 1: no other way around round around it. And with the
- 22:44Speaker 1: running game also struggling, it's a lot of bad football.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Russell Wilson has said let's ride all off season and
- 22:52Speaker 1: after every game when leaving the podium, he did not
- 22:54Speaker 1: do it yesterday. There may not play. I had somebody
- 22:57Speaker 1: tweet at me, let's rip our yp meeting Brita and
- 23:01Speaker 1: ripping Who would be stuff? Now? Who would ever think that?
- 23:05Speaker 1: After with the middle of I mean he was being
- 23:08Speaker 1: positive of course for Firmer Boise State legend Brett Rippon,
- 23:12Speaker 1: of course, nephew of the former Super Bowl m v
- 23:15Speaker 1: P who would be next in line at the Froncos
- 23:18Speaker 1: in two weeks in a standalone window in London, come
- 23:21Speaker 1: man up next? Speaking of the New York teams, Brian
- 23:26Speaker 1: Boldinger goes under the hood a boldy breakdown on what
- 23:29Speaker 1: isn't breaking down with these two would be playoff teams.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Thank you handsus, what is going on here? Could be good?
- 23:38Speaker 1: That was sixty minutes that it's fun and I mean that,
- 23:42Speaker 1: y'all absolutely tor him up in the second half. Old
- 23:44Speaker 1: line where to get at the everywhere defense? Defense, play
- 23:56Speaker 1: after play after play, special teams, big play, big play. Yeah.
- 24:07Speaker 1: How about Robert Sali's Jets who are three and oh
- 24:11Speaker 1: on the road, Bryan Baldinger for the first time in
- 24:13Speaker 1: twelve years. Now they go to Denver, maybe without Russell Wilson,
- 24:16Speaker 1: go under the hood for us of Aliday breakdown. What
- 24:18Speaker 1: are they doing so well? They've drafted well, Andrew I
- 24:22Speaker 1: mean Joe Joe, Joe Douglas came in and you look
- 24:24Speaker 1: at the top of the draft. You know, whether it's
- 24:26Speaker 1: Zack Wilson, Bruce Hall, Sauce Gardner, Uh, Quinnin Williams. Like
- 24:31Speaker 1: they've drafted at the top of the draft and they
- 24:33Speaker 1: fit in all of them. And right now, Breece Hall,
- 24:35Speaker 1: the way he's running like he's a candidate for the
- 24:38Speaker 1: offensive Rookie of the Year. Uh, these back to back runs,
- 24:41Speaker 1: and you know they've adjusted the offensive line to to
- 24:44Speaker 1: really get their five best out there. Olive Vera Tucker
- 24:46Speaker 1: has started three different positions. Uh, you know, and then
- 24:49Speaker 1: Dwayne Brown coming back doesn't look thirty seven years old
- 24:52Speaker 1: at left tackle. They kind of fixed that right now.
- 24:55Speaker 1: And then you've got Garrett Wilson and Elijah More and
- 24:57Speaker 1: these guys outside to throw it too so. And then defensively,
- 25:01Speaker 1: they put a lot of resources andrew into their defensive
- 25:04Speaker 1: front and qu and Williams flat out his playing as
- 25:06Speaker 1: well as any defensive tackle, including that monster that plays
- 25:10Speaker 1: that stadium right next to you, Aaron Donald is anybody
- 25:13Speaker 1: in this league and anybody in the league right now.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And so he he kind of starts the fight up front.
- 25:18Speaker 1: He was dominant against the Packers and from the Giants.
- 25:21Speaker 1: It's the ultimate job of coaching by Brian Dable and
- 25:24Speaker 1: Weak Martindale. And you know, they recognized that se Kwan
- 25:28Speaker 1: is their star player. They've addressed the offensive line with
- 25:31Speaker 1: Evan Neil Glowinski, Feliciano, They've kind of fixed that. They've
- 25:35Speaker 1: got a lot of rookie contributions Neo Vellinger, Um Cavan
- 25:40Speaker 1: and then Wake has challenged players that have been on
- 25:45Speaker 1: that roster, like Dexter Lawrence, and he's told him, he goes, look,
- 25:48Speaker 1: you belong in the Pro Bowl and if you're not there,
- 25:51Speaker 1: that's my fault. It's on me. So he challenged these
- 25:54Speaker 1: guys and he's kind of unleashed the beast within Dexter Lawrence,
- 25:58Speaker 1: big Cat Williams and some of those guys up front
- 26:00Speaker 1: and they're playing like it right now, and so it's really, uh,
- 26:04Speaker 1: it's really the result of some great coaching in New York,
- 26:07Speaker 1: in great drafting with the Jets. All right, and the
- 26:11Speaker 1: Giants now head to the Jaguars. The Jets has mentioned
- 26:15Speaker 1: head to the Broncos, two big road tests for them,
- 26:20Speaker 1: thank you, Brian Baldinger. Alright, so you know, whether it's
- 26:26Speaker 1: the Giants and the Jets or whatever, we all agreed
- 26:28Speaker 1: it was the craziest offseason ever ever. But watching that
- 26:32Speaker 1: game last night, it hit me how many of on
- 26:37Speaker 1: how many of those moves um that we spent so
- 26:39Speaker 1: much time on, uh during the off season have fallen
- 26:42Speaker 1: absolutely flat. So let's go back to March if we could.
- 26:45Speaker 1: The day before free agency open, we broke the news
- 26:48Speaker 1: right here on the show that after months of speculation
- 26:51Speaker 1: in mind reading, Aaron Rodgers was coming back. Okay, but
- 26:54Speaker 1: look at the Packers now. Tom Brady retired on a Saturday,
- 26:58Speaker 1: unretired forty days later and then disappeared at August. Now
- 27:00Speaker 1: look at the Bucketeers, and then look at the Broncos
- 27:02Speaker 1: last night. I mean, raise your hand if you thought
- 27:04Speaker 1: the store after six weeks would be future Hall of
- 27:07Speaker 1: Fame quarterback can't read the field. How much time did
- 27:09Speaker 1: we spend talking about Baker Mayfield between August and March. Right,
- 27:13Speaker 1: it's certainly not all his fault, and it is never
- 27:16Speaker 1: only one player's fault. But you can keep going if
- 27:19Speaker 1: you go to NFL dot com pullo Greg Rosenthall's free
- 27:22Speaker 1: agency top one on one. J C. Jackson was two
- 27:24Speaker 1: week ut bench. Last night, Allen Robinson had one big game.
- 27:28Speaker 1: He was a chandler. Jones was number five. I mean,
- 27:30Speaker 1: you get my point here. I guess what I'm saying
- 27:32Speaker 1: is plenty of moves have worked. Von Miller is a
- 27:35Speaker 1: perfect example. Tyreek Hill a perfect example as well. Davante Adam. Sure,
- 27:41Speaker 1: even if the Raiders really aren't winning, we love the offseason.
- 27:45Speaker 1: It never ends. But sometimes I don't know, maybe don't
- 27:49Speaker 1: believe the hype. Just thinking out loud. NFL Now is
