- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland. The after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:32Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:34Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:35Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:39Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking
- 0:42Speaker 1: about this week's full episode subject the icon Richard Pryor.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Incredibly bizarre celebrity deaths that's kind of related to Richard Pryor.
- 0:49Speaker 1: We get into that here. We're also previewing our upcoming
- 0:52Speaker 1: episode on Louis Armstrong, and we get into your voicemails,
- 0:55Speaker 1: text DMS, emails and as always, a whole lot of rosie.
- 0:59Speaker 1: All right, goes, let's get into it. Back on June ninth,
- 1:17Speaker 1: nineteen eighty, Richard Pryor lit himself on fire while high
- 1:20Speaker 1: on drugs. He then proceeded to bolt out of his house,
- 1:24Speaker 1: run down the street, totally engulfed in flames. It wasn't
- 1:27Speaker 1: until police spotted him and came to his rescue that
- 1:30Speaker 1: the flames were extinguished and Richard Pryor was saved. He
- 1:33Speaker 1: famously depicts this episode in his life and his Life
- 1:37Speaker 1: on the Sunset Strip special. We obviously depicted it in
- 1:41Speaker 1: our episode on Richard Pryor that we just released. It
- 1:44Speaker 1: goes without saying that it's nearly a miracle that Richard
- 1:48Speaker 1: Pryor survived. It's a miracle, nearly a miracle that he
- 1:53Speaker 1: survived this incident. It's nearly a miracle that he survived
- 1:56Speaker 1: his childhood and numerous other incidents throughout his adulthood. He
- 2:01Speaker 1: lived until December tenth, two thousand and five, when he
- 2:04Speaker 1: died of a heart attack. It was his second or
- 2:06Speaker 1: third heart attack. I can't remember which one. It was
- 2:09Speaker 1: a death that many people saw coming, given that Richard's
- 2:12Speaker 1: relationship with drugs was well known and he also had
- 2:15Speaker 1: multiple sclerosis. But what if the accident where Richard Pryor
- 2:21Speaker 1: lit himself on fire killed Richard Pryor. I'm sure I
- 2:26Speaker 1: was sing about this morning, and I am positive, and
- 2:28Speaker 1: then I looked into it. Now I'm extra positive that
- 2:31Speaker 1: this would have been the weirdest celebrity death of all time. No,
- 2:36Speaker 1: is there a weirder celebrity death than somebody freebasing cocaine
- 2:41Speaker 1: and lighting themselves on fire, running down the street and dying.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I got me thinking, I've come up with nada. I
- 2:49Speaker 1: dug in here to the old inter nerd and I
- 2:52Speaker 1: did a little research, and I can't find anything that
- 2:57Speaker 1: comes close. I did find some weird shit, and I'm
- 2:59Speaker 1: excited to talk to you guys about it because I
- 3:01Speaker 1: don't think we've ever talked about this in this space before.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And I think the reason we haven't talked about it
- 3:05Speaker 1: is because there's just not that many really compelling incidents
- 3:08Speaker 1: of celebrities dying that are just really bizarre and weird.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I'm talking about six feet under, you know, cold open weird.
- 3:14Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about here. Okay, So here's what
- 3:17Speaker 1: I got. And you guys might know more about these
- 3:20Speaker 1: incidents than I do, these deaths than I do, And
- 3:22Speaker 1: if you do, by all means, get in touch and
- 3:23Speaker 1: tell me what you know about it. I didn't know
- 3:27Speaker 1: hardly any of these Tennessee williams Okay, the famous play
- 3:29Speaker 1: right author of a street car named Desire. He died
- 3:32Speaker 1: while choking on a bottle cap, a bottle cap, apparently
- 3:36Speaker 1: a plastic eye drops bottle cap, like the cap for
- 3:40Speaker 1: like a vizine container or something. Tennessee. Williams had taken
- 3:44Speaker 1: the cap off and put it between his teeth to
- 3:47Speaker 1: hold it, tipped his head back to put the eye
- 3:49Speaker 1: drops in, and the cap slipped from his teeth and
- 3:51Speaker 1: caught in his caught in his throat. And I got
- 3:54Speaker 1: to say, I never knew this obviously, this death, though,
- 3:57Speaker 1: this is the type of death that scares the hell
- 3:58Speaker 1: out of me because it seems like something that could
- 4:00Speaker 1: happened to me. Maybe I've watched, like I said before,
- 4:02Speaker 1: too much Six feet Under. I don't know, but that's
- 4:05Speaker 1: what it reminded me of. Here's another weird one, incredibly
- 4:08Speaker 1: weird one I didn't know. This name Isidora Duncan. Okay.
- 4:12Speaker 1: She's like an early twentieth century dancer, queen of modern dance.
- 4:15Speaker 1: This is wild. Her day was back in the early
- 4:18Speaker 1: early twenties. She died riding in a convertible. She had
- 4:22Speaker 1: a long scarf on, okay, and the scarf starts blowing
- 4:25Speaker 1: in the wind behind her. Somehow, the scarf gets tangled
- 4:28Speaker 1: around the car's wheel and tightens around her neck and
- 4:33Speaker 1: it just rapidly gets super tight and then it whips
- 4:37Speaker 1: her out of the car by her neck. Scarf was
- 4:41Speaker 1: wrapped so tight the car is. The car's flying forward
- 4:44Speaker 1: and it's just like the scarf's caught onto the back wheel.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Hurls are out of the car bam onto the stone
- 4:50Speaker 1: pavement right on the street. She hits the street so
- 4:52Speaker 1: hard she's killed instantly from the force of the impact
- 4:55Speaker 1: and nearly decapitated. Super strange death. Here's another one on
- 5:00Speaker 1: William Holden. Okay, William Holden, actor from the middle of
- 5:04Speaker 1: the twentieth century, is in the Wild Bunch. He's in
- 5:07Speaker 1: Sunset Boulevard in some really huge, huge films. Super handsome dude.
- 5:12Speaker 1: He's hanging out in his apartment one night in Hollywood.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He gets blotto drunk, falls over, bangs his head on
- 5:17Speaker 1: his nightstand, and falls asleep. Unbeknownst to him, the cut
- 5:23Speaker 1: on his head from banging on the nightstand is so
- 5:27Speaker 1: bad that he just slowly bleeds to death. They find
- 5:31Speaker 1: this guy four days later dead, and the coroner says
- 5:34Speaker 1: that had he been sober and simply called for help,
- 5:36Speaker 1: that he would have easily lived. O this is what
- 5:40Speaker 1: makes me cringe. Head wounds freaked me out. Michael Hutchins
- 5:43Speaker 1: from Xcess did not die from autoerotic asphyxiation, even though
- 5:47Speaker 1: large parts of the Internet still think he did. But
- 5:48Speaker 1: you guys know that because you listen to the NXS
- 5:51Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland. David Carradine, however, from Kill Bill, he
- 5:57Speaker 1: did die from auto erotication, and I gotta say I
- 6:02Speaker 1: knew that I forgot about it, and then I think
- 6:04Speaker 1: I tricked myself into into thinking that it wasn't real,
- 6:07Speaker 1: But it was real. Keith Relph from The Yardbirds, Jimmy
- 6:11Speaker 1: Page's first band, died from playing guitar. Okay, electrocuted also
- 6:16Speaker 1: very scary to me. I cannot tell you how many
- 6:18Speaker 1: times I've been electrocuted on stage, electrocuted in the studio,
- 6:22Speaker 1: brutally electrocuted, like knocked off my feet, electrocuted. So Keith Ralph,
- 6:26Speaker 1: I had no idea about this from The Yardbirds and
- 6:29Speaker 1: didn't this is gonna be thinking. Didn't Steve mary On
- 6:32Speaker 1: from The Faces die weirdly as well? And he did.
- 6:35Speaker 1: He fell asleep smoking a cigarette, set his house on
- 6:39Speaker 1: fire and he didn't burn up, but he died of
- 6:43Speaker 1: the smoke inhalation, and they found actually fans of his,
- 6:47Speaker 1: Like the guys in the fire department we found him
- 6:49Speaker 1: were fans. I read about this this morning, super sad.
- 6:51Speaker 1: This would be a really cool episode to do. I think,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you know, he could kind of write it with him
- 6:57Speaker 1: falling asleep and kind of track track the episode as
- 7:01Speaker 1: you flash back to his past, to the burning down
- 7:03Speaker 1: of the cigarette, until he eventually passes out. I don't know.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I don't want to get creative here, but that's what
- 7:09Speaker 1: I was thinking. Vic Morrow, the actor, I didn't know
- 7:12Speaker 1: Vic Morrow. I'd heard of this story before. Vic Morrow
- 7:16Speaker 1: was on the set of The Twilight Zone. And I'm
- 7:19Speaker 1: not talking about the Rod Serling Twilight Zone from the fifties.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I'm talking about the Steven Spielberg feature film from the eighties.
- 7:26Speaker 1: And this this movie kind of like Poltergeist. It's got
- 7:30Speaker 1: a lot of lore around it. It's believe to be cursed.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Vic Morrow was decapitated by a helicopter on set of
- 7:39Speaker 1: the Twilight Zone. So look, so far, I'm like halfway
- 7:43Speaker 1: through this list, and you know, none of these names
- 7:47Speaker 1: approach the level of Richard pryor maybe William Holden did
- 7:51Speaker 1: at one point. But you see where I'm going here, right.
- 7:54Speaker 1: If Richard Pryor had died from lighting himself on fire,
- 7:57Speaker 1: he's this easily would have been the craziest celebrity death
- 7:59Speaker 1: we've ever had. But he didn't. He lived. But let's
- 8:02Speaker 1: keep going here for the purpose of the argument. Sonny
- 8:04Speaker 1: Bono of Sonny and Cher died in a skiing accident.
- 8:07Speaker 1: We knew that from the impact of hitting a tree.
- 8:11Speaker 1: This one I didn't know. And I'm surprised I didn't
- 8:13Speaker 1: know this because it happened fairly recently. It happened in
- 8:15Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine. Owen Hart pro wrestler. Okay, now, I
- 8:19Speaker 1: wasn't paying attention to pro wrestling in nineteen ninety nine,
- 8:21Speaker 1: but a lot of people were. I know what I
- 8:23Speaker 1: was doing and how this escaped me. But this is crazy, man,
- 8:26Speaker 1: This dude. It's a live pay per view special. He's
- 8:29Speaker 1: being lowered from the rafters into the ring. He's super
- 8:32Speaker 1: high up. He's being held by a harness. The harness
- 8:34Speaker 1: comes undone in the wrestler Owen Heart. He falls sixty
- 8:37Speaker 1: feet on live television or pay per view whatever it's live,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and dies right there, right there. It's awful. That's so awful.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It's so bizarre. Imagine being that dude's family and seeing
- 8:49Speaker 1: that having to deal with that incredibly traumatic. Others that
- 8:53Speaker 1: were mentioned that we have covered here in Disgraceland, Sam Cook,
- 8:57Speaker 1: you know, mysterious circumstances, sure, Denver, Yeah, I'm not gonna
- 9:03Speaker 1: spoil it here. Parts of the internet still think Mama
- 9:05Speaker 1: cass Elliott died from eating a ham sandwich. He did not.
- 9:08Speaker 1: We covered that in two episodes, so I was pretty
- 9:12Speaker 1: surprised to not know the stories of many of these deaths,
- 9:15Speaker 1: Like I said, And just to make the point Richard
- 9:19Speaker 1: Pryor's accident, had he died from those from that fire,
- 9:23Speaker 1: had it been cemented in Stone that the cause of
- 9:25Speaker 1: the fire was freebasing cocaine, which I think we're all
- 9:28Speaker 1: pretty sure was the case, even though the fact is
- 9:29Speaker 1: somewhat disputed, I think that given Richard's popularity, this would
- 9:33Speaker 1: have gone down. Is the strangest celebrity death of all time.
- 9:37Speaker 1: But you guys know a lot about this subject, I'm sure,
- 9:40Speaker 1: So get in touch, and if you know anyone else
- 9:42Speaker 1: that I'm forgetting here weird celebrity deaths, let me know.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Maybe some of them will make for good episodes. I'm
- 9:48Speaker 1: particularly interested in musicians. I feel like I've covered all
- 9:51Speaker 1: that ground. I've researched it. I've researched it all. I
- 9:53Speaker 1: feel like I got it all. But I don't know.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I didn't know the Keith Rolf thing, so that was
- 9:57Speaker 1: news to me. Maybe there's some more stuff here. If
- 10:00Speaker 1: you know anything, hit me up. Let me know which
- 10:02Speaker 1: celebrity death I'm leaving off of our list here. All right,
- 10:05Speaker 1: moving on, Not a lot of super compelling news in
- 10:07Speaker 1: the Sean Ditty Combs case. You know, it's in part
- 10:10Speaker 1: because I'm kind of sick of the story, if I'm
- 10:12Speaker 1: being honest, you know, we need some I'm sick of
- 10:14Speaker 1: the conjecture and the speculation. We need some real hard
- 10:18Speaker 1: evidence to move this story forward. Okay, not a lot
- 10:22Speaker 1: has gone on. Diddy apparently was snuck out of prison
- 10:24Speaker 1: under the cover of darkness for an MRI on his knee.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Some people thought that that meant that he was going
- 10:29Speaker 1: to get epsteined, but apparently did. He's back in his cell,
- 10:31Speaker 1: safe and sound, bad knee and all. There are a
- 10:34Speaker 1: few more lawsuits this week from the Busby camp. Apparently
- 10:36Speaker 1: there's about ten more coming in the next few days.
- 10:39Speaker 1: This is all according to the BBC, so I'm not
- 10:41Speaker 1: just giving you TikTok speculation here. I am not caught
- 10:44Speaker 1: up on the Diddy HBO series, but I will be soon.
- 10:47Speaker 1: The series is a tough watch for me. It's an
- 10:51Speaker 1: outrage machine. That's what the series is. I'm not trying
- 10:54Speaker 1: to throw you off the series. I think you should
- 10:56Speaker 1: watch it. It's done really, really well. I've just already
- 10:59Speaker 1: consumed a lot of this information and I'm sort of
- 11:02Speaker 1: I got a full lid on Diddy in the grossness.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch it, though, I'm gonna try to be
- 11:07Speaker 1: all caught up by the next time we talk in
- 11:09Speaker 1: case anything else breaks, although I said that last week
- 11:11Speaker 1: and I have not done that. I've been busy making stuff,
- 11:15Speaker 1: making a lot of stuff over here, a lot of stuff.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And I have an update on my studio finally, after
- 11:20Speaker 1: getting screwed by a contractor who just took my money
- 11:24Speaker 1: and bailed, who will be dealt with in time, we
- 11:28Speaker 1: have hired a new contractor and they're moving very fast,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and my new studio will finally be done by the
- 11:33Speaker 1: middle of March, which I cannot wait for. So but
- 11:37Speaker 1: We're not letting it slow us down. That's the point
- 11:39Speaker 1: I'm trying to make. We're making a ton of stuff here,
- 11:41Speaker 1: lots of new video content, working on some cool new projects.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I'm excited, and I'm writing a banger of an episode
- 11:47Speaker 1: right now. I'm Martin Scorsese. Another one, Part two. This
- 11:51Speaker 1: is the We're gonna have this release for you in
- 11:54Speaker 1: time for the Academy Award. So I've been doing that
- 11:56Speaker 1: this week. I'm really excited about it. I can't wait
- 11:58Speaker 1: for you guys to hear it. And yeah, what else?
- 12:02Speaker 1: I saw the Dylan movie A Complete Unknown. Finally, I'm
- 12:05Speaker 1: gonna give you my review in the bonus section of
- 12:08Speaker 1: this episode. You guys, want to be bonus members. You
- 12:10Speaker 1: know how to do it. Go to Disgrace lampod dot com,
- 12:12Speaker 1: slash all Access. You sign up. It's five bucks. You

- 12:17Speaker 1: per month. Plus you get me here in the bonus episode,
- 12:20Speaker 1: giving you some bonus content. Okay, extra bonus content, i
- 12:24Speaker 1: should say. And this week it's going to be my
- 12:25Speaker 1: review of A Complete Unknown. Okay, moving on from the update,
- 12:30Speaker 1: moving on from Diddy, moving on from Richard Pryor next week,
- 12:33Speaker 1: we have an episode on jazz great twentieth century icon
- 12:36Speaker 1: Louis Armstrong. You know Louis Armstrong, Like I said, he's
- 12:39Speaker 1: an icon. He's a horn player, raspy voiced guy. What
- 12:42Speaker 1: a wonderful world trees. That dude looked like your average
- 12:46Speaker 1: happy go lucky grandpa by the end of his life.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And that's the iconic image of Louis Armstrong. But the
- 12:51Speaker 1: dude was not what he seemed. He was involved with
- 12:55Speaker 1: a coupde todd Africa. Here in the States, he was
- 12:57Speaker 1: heavily involved with the mob and was a world cloud
- 13:00Speaker 1: number one reefer head dude gut stoned despite his image
- 13:05Speaker 1: and way before grass was made fashionable in the sixties.
- 13:07Speaker 1: So when you're listening to this episode, be thinking about
- 13:10Speaker 1: all the musicians we've covered in Disgrace sand okay all
- 13:13Speaker 1: of them, and which artist behavior surprised you the most
- 13:17Speaker 1: where you're like, holy shit, I didn't know she was
- 13:20Speaker 1: up to that, or I didn't know that dude was
- 13:21Speaker 1: doing that. That's what I want to know. That's gonna
- 13:24Speaker 1: be the question of the week for next week. Think
- 13:25Speaker 1: about that when you're listening to the Louis Armstrong episode
- 13:28Speaker 1: and let me Know six one seven nine oh six
- 13:30Speaker 1: six sixty three eight voicemail text at Disgrace lampod on
- 13:33Speaker 1: the Socials. Coming up before Louis Armstrong though. Coming up
- 13:35Speaker 1: next in your feed is our two part episode on
- 13:39Speaker 1: Miles Davis and The Rewind Slot. These are two of
- 13:43Speaker 1: my favorite episodes. They sound incredible. If I do say
- 13:46Speaker 1: so myself, Matt Bowden mixed the hell out of him.
- 13:49Speaker 1: He's a jazz head, so I think you really got
- 13:50Speaker 1: into these ones creatively. If you've heard these episodes, you
- 13:53Speaker 1: gotta want to hear him again, okay. And if you haven't,
- 13:55Speaker 1: you're like, but I don't like jazz man or you know,
- 13:58Speaker 1: you're like, I don't know that much about Miles da
- 14:00Speaker 1: I don't care. Don't listen, listen, listen. I don't care.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I don't care that you don't like jazz. I don't
- 14:06Speaker 1: care that you might not think that often of Miles
- 14:08Speaker 1: Davis or think that you're interested in Miles Davis. I'm
- 14:11Speaker 1: going to tell you something about you right now. You're cool.
- 14:14Speaker 1: You know how I know you're cool because you're listening
- 14:16Speaker 1: to this podcast. You know who else was cool? Miles Davis.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Miles Davis I'm pretty sure the dude invented cool. He
- 14:22Speaker 1: might be one of the most rock and roll, most
- 14:24Speaker 1: badass musicians of all time, and he was a beast
- 14:28Speaker 1: of an artist whose story is insane. There is tons
- 14:31Speaker 1: of drama in these episodes, so dude is just he
- 14:34Speaker 1: was just on another level and he's kind of low
- 14:36Speaker 1: key hysterical, So you're gonna want to listen to this, okay.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Plus there's all these arrests, car crashes, just like Richard Pryor.
- 14:42Speaker 1: There's lots of cocaine, all right, and it's probably also
- 14:45Speaker 1: got one of the best intros that we've ever done
- 14:46Speaker 1: for any episode of Disgrace Science, so check that out.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Miles Davis coming up in the rewind slots right now.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna take a quick break. I'll be back to
- 14:52Speaker 1: you shortly with your voicemails, text and dms from our
- 14:55Speaker 1: question of the Week last week. All right, we are back.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Just a quick reminder to make sure you Apple podcast listeners,
- 15:21Speaker 1: as always, have auto downloads turned on so you're not
- 15:24Speaker 1: missing any episodes. You guys know how to get in
- 15:26Speaker 1: touch with me six one seven nine oh six six
- 15:28Speaker 1: six three eight to leave me a voicemail sent me
- 15:29Speaker 1: a text just like Scott in the six two three.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Hey Jimmy, it's Scott from the six two three. I'm
- 15:38Speaker 2: actually out in Ohio right now for work, but I
- 15:42Speaker 2: was catching up and listening to the Richard Pryor episode
- 15:44Speaker 2: that you just put out, and he asked for comedian
- 15:47Speaker 2: that meant them most to you, and Uh, for me,
- 15:50Speaker 2: it has to be Robin Williams by far. Everything the
- 15:54Speaker 2: man did was just incredible. The golf might be one
- 16:00Speaker 2: of the best comedic efforts ever. And then I was
- 16:08Speaker 2: fortunate enough to get to see him live all four
- 16:12Speaker 2: times total. My dad worked in the industry and happened
- 16:17Speaker 2: to work on Hook and I got to have lunch
- 16:22Speaker 2: with Robin at the Coach Roach Roach Coach on set
- 16:30Speaker 2: at Columbia Studios back then, and the man made me
- 16:35Speaker 2: laugh for forty five minutes NonStop because his mind just
- 16:38Speaker 2: never stopped and that's how he worked. And then I
- 16:42Speaker 2: was fortunate to see him at the Humbles of Each
- 16:44Speaker 2: Comedy Magic Club in a small little setting where he
- 16:48Speaker 2: basically did two hours of what do you want to
- 16:51Speaker 2: hear from the audience, and it was insane. The band
- 16:56Speaker 2: was a genius and unfortunately we're finding out a broken mind,
- 17:01Speaker 2: but in a very sad story. But I miss him
- 17:06Speaker 2: and I loved him, and I think he was just
- 17:08Speaker 2: amazing Rock and Roller. Keep up the great work.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Wow, Scott, that's amazing thanks to the voicemail. I cannot
- 17:14Speaker 1: believe you saw Robin Williams in a tiny club just
- 17:18Speaker 1: kind of riffing, and that is amazing, And you get
- 17:21Speaker 1: I mean that. I mean, getting to meet him is
- 17:23Speaker 1: one thing, but really getting to see him up close
- 17:25Speaker 1: and personal perform like that must have been mind blowing.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And I'm very envious. Robin Williams was on another level.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I mean, as you know, as most people know that
- 17:35Speaker 1: I think of when I think of Rob Williams so
- 17:39Speaker 1: much great dramatic acting, but when I think of the comedy,
- 17:43Speaker 1: I think of those Letterman appearances and him just going
- 17:46Speaker 1: completely uncontained, just off the hook all over the place,
- 17:54Speaker 1: just unable to sit still. And you can see, as
- 17:57Speaker 1: you said, his broken mind is sort of just going
- 18:00Speaker 1: off the rails, were making all these incredible references flying
- 18:04Speaker 1: into Tom Waite's impersonations out of nowhere. Just truly, what
- 18:08Speaker 1: a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful mind. Incredible stuff. Thank you for
- 18:13Speaker 1: the voicemail question of the Week last week, guys, was
- 18:16Speaker 1: which comedian from your youth most resonated with you. Obviously
- 18:20Speaker 1: that's what Scott was talking about there. This one comes
- 18:23Speaker 1: from Matthew in New Jersey.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Hey, Jake, this is Matthew from New Jersey calling about
- 18:31Speaker 3: favorite comedian of my generation. I was born in eighty
- 18:34Speaker 3: five and in the summer in ninety nine, Chris Rock
- 18:38Speaker 3: dropped his Bigger and Blacker special, and as a fourteen
- 18:43Speaker 3: year old boy, I have to say that was my
- 18:46Speaker 3: favorite comedy special. And at the time my parents told me,
- 18:51Speaker 3: you know, he was just kind of copying off Eddie Murphy.
- 18:54Speaker 3: But that's not my generation. My generation is Chris Rock.
- 18:57Speaker 3: And that particular special he talked, he makes flight of
- 19:00Speaker 3: the Columbine shootings, which you know, that was, oh, I
- 19:06Speaker 3: don't know, twenty six years ago, and it was just
- 19:08Speaker 3: the beginning of the school shooting epidemic. It's got some
- 19:11Speaker 3: pretty funny things to say about being scared of young
- 19:14Speaker 3: white kids with guns. And obviously the Monica Lensky scandal
- 19:19Speaker 3: was going on at that time, so there's a lot
- 19:20Speaker 3: of spodder for current events. And if anyone hasn't heard
- 19:23Speaker 3: it or seen it. I think just going back and
- 19:25Speaker 3: giving it a.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Listen, Matthew, thank you. Yes, Chris Rock. Chris Rock was
- 19:30Speaker 1: not in any Murphy knockoff, not in any way. Chris
- 19:32Speaker 1: Rock was his own thing, truly kind of came out
- 19:36Speaker 1: of I mean, I don't know, I would think that
- 19:38Speaker 1: the same You could say the same thing about Eddie
- 19:40Speaker 1: Murphy that he was just ripping on Richard Pryor, but
- 19:44Speaker 1: he was uniquely his own thing as well. To me,
- 19:47Speaker 1: the answer is Eddie Murphy. I'm a little bit older
- 19:48Speaker 1: than you, Matthew, and for me it was just I mean,
- 19:52Speaker 1: delirious and raw. It was on rent free in our
- 19:57Speaker 1: heads constantly, and we were always quoting from those films.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Probably not the best thing. You don't want your kids
- 20:03Speaker 1: in the fourth, fifth, sixth grade doing Eddie Murphy bitts
- 20:07Speaker 1: at the bus top. But such was the reality for
- 20:11Speaker 1: us Latchkey kids. But I hear you, though, Chris Rock
- 20:14Speaker 1: amazing and being able to make light of things like Columbine,
- 20:17Speaker 1: the Lewinsky scandal, all that is what a fascinating time
- 20:21Speaker 1: to be alive and consuming comedy and culture and politics
- 20:24Speaker 1: in general. We're talking nineteen ninety nine, early two thousands.
- 20:28Speaker 1: All right, guys, this text comes from Don. In the
- 20:32Speaker 1: eighth one, Don writes, Hey, like Heidi, I was also
- 20:35Speaker 1: diagnosed with cancer at the end of twenty twenty four.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I'm forty eight years old. That reminder that MCA was
- 20:42Speaker 1: forty seven when he died of cancer hit me really hard.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Keep up the great work, don't worry about me. I
- 20:46Speaker 1: start chemo in twelve days and should take care of
- 20:48Speaker 1: what's left after surgery. Listen, Don, we are sending you
- 20:53Speaker 1: all of the PMA that we can possibly muster here
- 20:56Speaker 1: in Disgraceland. I'll be praying for you, my brother. I
- 20:59Speaker 1: hope you pull out of this. I hope you're doing
- 21:01Speaker 1: as good as you can be doing, and I hope
- 21:03Speaker 1: you I hope these Disgraceland episodes, these after party episodes
- 21:06Speaker 1: give you a little bit of comfort. I know you're
- 21:07Speaker 1: going through a tough time hanging there. You're gonna be
- 21:09Speaker 1: good as new when you come out the other side.

- 21:26Speaker 1: or anything on the replacements. A new loyal fan in
- 21:28Speaker 1: North Carolina. That's from Rob in the nine one, Oh Rob,
- 21:31Speaker 1: My man. I love these texts. I love the new listeners.

- 22:17Speaker 1: Steve Wilson over on x Rights at Disgraysam Pod. Just
- 22:21Speaker 1: listen to the Richard Pryor episode. I love the toy too.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I love the toy. I love the toy. You guys
- 22:26Speaker 1: not love the toy us course you do. Scott ce
- 22:29Speaker 1: over on Facebook Rights and Relationship to our Apollonia David
- 22:34Speaker 1: Lee Roth Prince love Triangle video that we posted Scott seawrites, Hey,
- 22:38Speaker 1: I know I'll get hate, but I think Prince was overrated.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Most of the songs sounded similar, and he couldn't dance
- 22:44Speaker 1: like Michael. Michael had a great arrange with music, so
- 22:47Speaker 1: much so that a lot of his songs didn't sound alike. Scott,
- 22:51Speaker 1: I'm not gonna light you up here like you're getting
- 22:54Speaker 1: lit up on Facebook right now on our Facebook page.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I appreciate the boldness, but I too have bold takes.
- 23:03Speaker 1: That's a bold one right there. Not liking Prince, I
- 23:06Speaker 1: can see just being like, Hey, I think Michael Jackson's
- 23:09Speaker 1: better that I can that I can get with. I
- 23:11Speaker 1: don't actually agree with your point though, that Michael Jackson
- 23:13Speaker 1: was what had a more varied musical style or however
- 23:17Speaker 1: you put it. I mean, they're both great. You know,
- 23:21Speaker 1: it's like comparing Michael Jordan and Lebron. No, it's not
- 23:25Speaker 1: because Lebron sucks, not that Michael Jackson sucks or Prince.
- 23:28Speaker 1: They're both. They are both great. It's it's just super
- 23:30Speaker 1: hard to compare the two. But you did say you
- 23:33Speaker 1: just don't like Prince. Say that's taste, So I'm not
- 23:35Speaker 1: gonna you know whatever. Okay, you got it, you got it.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I like My point is I read your comment because
- 23:40Speaker 1: I like I like the boldness my man I do.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Whether or not I agree with it, I like it.
- 23:45Speaker 1: You guys can make comments all you want on our
- 23:47Speaker 1: Facebook page, Facebook dot com, slash disgracelampod at this grace
- 23:50Speaker 1: lampod on Facebook at the Grace lamppod on x and
- 23:53Speaker 1: on Instagram. Speaking to Instagram Instagram, where you've done fucking
- 23:57Speaker 1: around trying to win over TikTok users who are never
- 24:00Speaker 1: coming to your platform. Can we go back to putting
- 24:02Speaker 1: the algorithm the way it was, where it was serving
- 24:04Speaker 1: up our reels to all the people who wanted to
- 24:06Speaker 1: see them, and you weren't just holding us sort of
- 24:09Speaker 1: you know, vet creators back to make room for the
- 24:13Speaker 1: new TikTok users who again are not coming. Can we
- 24:15Speaker 1: go back to the way it was just like six
- 24:17Speaker 1: weeks ago? Can we do that? Please? Okay, thank you?
- 24:20Speaker 1: All right, I'm gonna take a quick break up back
- 24:21Speaker 1: in the Flash with your emails, reviews and the story
- 24:25Speaker 1: of the week. All right, as we are back with
- 24:41Speaker 1: the story of the week, you know the drill. Listen.
- 24:43Speaker 1: We're looking for your craziest rock and roll stories, the
- 24:46Speaker 1: stories that you have experienced, the stories that you have heard,
- 24:49Speaker 1: the stories the best preserve the spirit of rock and roll.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That's what we're doing here in Disgraceland. I want to
- 24:55Speaker 1: hear from you. Email is best, but you can hit
- 24:57Speaker 1: me up at Disgracelandpod on the socials. You can even
- 25:00Speaker 1: call me, le me, lead mea voicemail, sent me a text.
- 25:02Speaker 1: This one comes via email from Disco Fox aka Jim
- 25:06Speaker 1: from Montreal. This is this is an email says hey,
- 25:09Speaker 1: back to your Stones and Trudeau dust up in Canada.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I was there at the Macambo. We saw Maggie Trudeau
- 25:14Speaker 1: at the club right there next to us, getting down
- 25:16Speaker 1: to the Stones. It was incredibly surreal. When the night
- 25:19Speaker 1: was over. We thought that was fun, we thought that
- 25:21Speaker 1: was cool. We thought no one would believe what we saw.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And then the next day it's all over the papers,
- 25:25Speaker 1: It's all over the news, the biggest story in the country,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and we were right there as it happened. And oh,
- 25:30Speaker 1: by the way, the stones rocked. This is incredible. Thank you, Jim. Listen,
- 25:34Speaker 1: if you got I kind of I gotta say, I
- 25:36Speaker 1: just I have such fomo from the rock and roll
- 25:40Speaker 1: era before the one that I came up in that
- 25:42Speaker 1: I really appreciate these stories where you guys were there
- 25:47Speaker 1: at some of these events, makes it very compelling to me.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Hit me up. Like I said, story of the Week

- 25:55Speaker 1: I mentioned that, but I'm leading it. We get a
- 25:57Speaker 1: messaged here in the after party. We're also gonna be
- 25:59Speaker 1: shouting you guys out on as well, So check out
- 26:01Speaker 1: the Instagram, Facebook, x TikTok your story might be the
- 26:06Speaker 1: story of the week. Got an email here from Robert Vogel.
- 26:09Speaker 1: It's a suggestion. You know me, I love the episode suggestions.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Robert says, Hey, a band to cover. Have you thought
- 26:13Speaker 1: about doing an episode on poison Well? Listen, Robert. You know,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I really haven't, but Robert, you're kind of convincing me.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Robert go was Honestay, I know they had a really
- 26:20Speaker 1: really wild days back at the start, but no idea
- 26:23Speaker 1: they were bad enough to warrn an episode. Listen. Poison
- 26:26Speaker 1: was one of those bands I rebelled hard against as
- 26:29Speaker 1: a kid. I have a newfound respect, if not musical
- 26:34Speaker 1: liking for the band. I realize now they're just just
- 26:38Speaker 1: another rock and roll band. They look like poodles or whatever.
- 26:41Speaker 1: And I think that CC deville guy is hysterical. And
- 26:43Speaker 1: someone told me the other day what that guy's doing lately,
- 26:46Speaker 1: and it's really interesting, and it's it's like we're on
- 26:48Speaker 1: the tip of my brain right now and I can't
- 26:50Speaker 1: think of what it is. But yeah, perhaps, perhaps, perhaps, Robert.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Thank you for the for the email. What else we
- 26:57Speaker 1: got here? Reviews? Guys review our key reviews help with discovery.
- 27:02Speaker 1: You hear me say it every single week. We are
- 27:04Speaker 1: in an independent podcast. We rely on the reviews to
- 27:07Speaker 1: help propel the episode, help others find it. Once a
- 27:10Speaker 1: week I pick out a review or two. I read
- 27:12Speaker 1: them here, one from Apple Podcasts, one from Spotify. If
- 27:16Speaker 1: you hear your review mentioned, you can hit me up
- 27:18Speaker 1: and I will get you some free merch that we
- 27:20Speaker 1: get lying around the studio here just so you know,
- 27:23Speaker 1: if you've reached out to me and I have not responded,
- 27:26Speaker 1: we do these once per month, so excuse me. We
- 27:29Speaker 1: read them every week, but we sort of get into
- 27:31Speaker 1: the fulfillment of it sending out the merch once per month,
- 27:36Speaker 1: so it's a coming. This review comes on Apple Podcast
- 27:39Speaker 1: via Chuck Destruction. Chuck, what a fucking name, my man.
- 27:43Speaker 1: I love it. Solid storytelling about everything you can dot
- 27:48Speaker 1: dot dot five stars. Chuck goes on to say Jake
- 27:50Speaker 1: has made the controversial comment that rock and roll is dead.
- 27:54Speaker 1: It is. Over the years, he and his esteemed team
- 27:57Speaker 1: have gone through the hard work of collecting and archiving
- 27:59Speaker 1: the worst behavior in musicians, let alone humans, And if
- 28:02Speaker 1: your dark Passenger needs a little fill of debauchery, this
- 28:05Speaker 1: podcast will help you experience terror and laughter over what
- 28:08Speaker 1: humans can do to one another. Serial killers are interesting,
- 28:11Speaker 1: but how hostage taking, stalking, arson and covering up murders
- 28:14Speaker 1: happens by those we love dancing to occurs, Well, now
- 28:18Speaker 1: that is riveting. Chuck Destruction love the review. Love your
- 28:22Speaker 1: Name thank you brother. Get in touch, We'll get you
- 28:23Speaker 1: some merch. Ashley Pickholtz right simply over on Spotify. In
- 28:28Speaker 1: relation to the Rick James Rewind episode. Ah, this is

- 29:15Speaker 1: You know, if you ask me five bucks a month, Okay,
- 29:18Speaker 1: I paid more for my coffee this morning than that.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I'm not saying that. You know, we should be paying
- 29:25Speaker 1: more for coffees than five dollars a month. We should not. Absolutely,
- 29:29Speaker 1: there are certain things. I'm on record is saying this.
- 29:31Speaker 1: There are certain things that just there should be a
- 29:32Speaker 1: law pass that. There are certain things that should not
- 29:35Speaker 1: cost more than a dollar, and a coffee is one
- 29:38Speaker 1: of them. A beer is another one. You should be
- 29:40Speaker 1: able to get a glass of beer, a small glass
- 29:42Speaker 1: of beer in a bar for a dollar. Okay, I
- 29:45Speaker 1: don't care. It can be bush light, it can be frickin'
- 29:47Speaker 1: meister brow, doesn't matter. There should be a dollar beer option,
- 29:51Speaker 1: all right. And maybe just to you know, cut down
- 29:53Speaker 1: on people getting schloshed. Maybe maybe there's a limit. Okay,
- 29:56Speaker 1: maybe you can only buy three dollars three dollars beers,
- 29:59Speaker 1: three one dollar beers. Okay. Hot dogs, hot dogs, they
- 30:02Speaker 1: should only be a dollar. I don't care where you are,
- 30:04Speaker 1: Fenway Park, doesn't matter. Always have a you know you
- 30:07Speaker 1: can charge more for the fancy ones. Just give me
- 30:09Speaker 1: the dollar option. Okay. I don't like fancy hot dogs either.
- 30:12Speaker 1: I just like simple. Don't fuck it up on me.
- 30:15Speaker 1: It's a simple thing. So there you have it. Beers, coffee,
- 30:18Speaker 1: and hot dogs should not be more than a buck.
- 30:20Speaker 1: And Disgraceland all Access is only five bucks. Okay, we
