- 0:02Speaker 1: Hey, what are boxing fans? This is the rope a
- 0:05Speaker 1: Dope Radio podcast. I'm your host, Chris Carlson. We are
- 0:09Speaker 1: live on a Tuesday night. I hope everybody had a
- 0:13Speaker 1: good weekend and early part of the week. John will
- 0:17Speaker 1: be joining us here shortly. We will start the show
- 0:22Speaker 1: talking recap. Obviously he didn't he was on vacation last week,
- 0:27Speaker 1: so we'll let him kind of talk about the last
- 0:32Speaker 1: two weekends. You know, Wu Sik and in all the
- 0:35Speaker 1: fights that happened the weekend before as well Zaiaz. You know,
- 0:41Speaker 1: Xander Ziez did his thing, as did Carrington Shields. There
- 0:46Speaker 1: was a good main event scrap on overtime on was
- 0:50Speaker 1: that Friday night? I believe goodlow scrap from the UK.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We'll talk about that and then we'll preview this weekend.
- 0:58Speaker 1: It's it's a little light, you know. We have dwar
- 1:02Speaker 1: Day and Simms Junior pro Gray and Diaz gotten made
- 1:07Speaker 1: not long ago. We'll see how great a shape those
- 1:10Speaker 1: two are in. And then on the show. You know,
- 1:14Speaker 1: last week I hadn't really been able to have time
- 1:19Speaker 1: to discuss the the revival, the Ali Act revival. I
- 1:27Speaker 1: have a little bit more information actually, you know, a
- 1:30Speaker 1: fair amount of information on it. Now. I haven't talked
- 1:34Speaker 1: to John about it, but I'm assuming he probably read it.
- 1:37Speaker 1: If not, uh, you know, we'll we'll see how that goes.
- 1:40Speaker 1: But we'll just talk about We'll just talk about it.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You know, there's there's some things that you up front
- 1:47Speaker 1: that you're kind of like, oh, okay, yeah, that that
- 1:50Speaker 1: sounds good. It doesn't sound bad. But then you know
- 1:54Speaker 1: there's layers where you're like, man.
- 1:57Speaker 2: To be a UBO.
- 2:00Speaker 1: The UFC t k O, I should say, sure, has
- 2:04Speaker 1: a head start on a lot of people. So well,
- 2:08Speaker 1: we'll talk about it. I gues said, we'll talk about it.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You know, whether it's who's gonna rank their fighters? How
- 2:15Speaker 1: many fighters are they thinking about signing in the next
- 2:19Speaker 1: year or two. You'd assume a lot if they really
- 2:21Speaker 1: want to make some noise. But yeah, we'll talk all
- 2:25Speaker 1: about it and then a little bit of follow up.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I did get a fair amount of messages about the
- 2:32Speaker 1: designed pay per view the second sub A variety of
- 2:37Speaker 1: folks coming out of the woodwork talking about the number
- 2:42Speaker 1: of subscriptions. Got a really good message that I want
- 2:49Speaker 1: to talk about as well. You know, with Turkey talking
- 2:53Speaker 1: about the number of subscribers and how this new second
- 2:59Speaker 1: you know, sub pay per view model will actually grow
- 3:05Speaker 1: the sport, it'll help his own blah blah blah blah blah.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And he may have just been kind of shown his
- 3:11Speaker 1: ass a little bit or to Zone's ass, I should say,
- 3:15Speaker 1: because if he says this amount of subscribers, and he
- 3:19Speaker 1: says us UK in the world, and I remember reading
- 3:23Speaker 1: that quote and didn't realize when I first saw it
- 3:26Speaker 1: that it said in the world. But the numbers that
- 3:30Speaker 1: he brought out kind of lend itself to not like
- 3:37Speaker 1: the number week that's out there for his own worldwide,
- 3:41Speaker 1: how how many they have, I'd.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Say it's definitely lower than that.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You know, we know they don't have a lot here,
- 3:47Speaker 1: they don't have that many in the in the UK.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But we'll talk about it in general. I'll kind of
- 3:54Speaker 1: respond to, you know, some some folks stuff that they
- 3:58Speaker 1: are folks, messages that they you.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Know, they had some some questions and queries and complaints,
- 4:06Speaker 3: Let's put it that way.
- 4:08Speaker 1: If this is your first time listening to the Ropodope

- 5:07Speaker 1: nine ninety nine for the first month, and that includes
- 5:12Speaker 1: over one hundred and sixty channels. That's Direct TV Stream. Okay,
- 5:19Speaker 1: So per usual, we're gonna start in the ring. You know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: we're not gonna go uh directly into you know, the
- 5:29Speaker 1: new revival reviving the Even the title kind of sounds corny.
- 5:35Speaker 3: They're going to revive the boxing, the US boxing. We're
- 5:39Speaker 3: gonna revive it. Although it's gonna help us the.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Most anyway, Xander Ziaz Right, They looked pretty good, you know,
- 5:51Speaker 1: early on, jabbing fairly well, landing the right hand in
- 5:57Speaker 1: the jab to the head and body. I liked what
- 5:59Speaker 1: I saw out of there. The second round had kind
- 6:02Speaker 1: of like a slow first part to it, but then
- 6:07Speaker 1: you know, it caught up a little bit. In the
- 6:10Speaker 1: second part of that second round. Ziaz was moving pretty nicely,
- 6:15Speaker 1: landing the better shots in the last minute. The jab
- 6:20Speaker 1: really guided the way in round three, and you know,
- 6:27Speaker 1: Xander was landing and then he'd kind of keep his distance,
- 6:30Speaker 1: he kind of reset. He was doing a good job
- 6:33Speaker 1: of keeping it in the middle of the ring like
- 6:36Speaker 1: he did in the fourth round. Fifth round, a little
- 6:38Speaker 1: bit of two way action, but Xander was making a miss.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I do think there's times right around here fifth round
- 6:47Speaker 1: and beyond where he could have landed more. Though too,
- 6:51Speaker 1: I think he was playing it a little too safe.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Sixth round, huge right hands early, two of them, two
- 6:58Speaker 1: or three of them. Garcia did land back nicely, but
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know, the last maybe thirty seconds or so, so
- 7:06Speaker 1: some really hard punches landed by Xander. Seventh round, you know,
- 7:13Speaker 1: it was kind of it just started catching up to
- 7:15Speaker 1: Garcia as far as just.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Just sloppy offense, you know, missing with.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Wide punches, not really being that effective at all. And
- 7:30Speaker 1: like I said, I do think like the eighth round,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I thought Garcia had a fairly good round. I still
- 7:38Speaker 1: think azayas you know, landed the better shots. But like
- 7:42Speaker 1: I mentioned, I thought he played it a little too
- 7:46Speaker 1: safe at times. Now easy for me to say, but
- 7:50Speaker 1: I'm not saying, oh, step on the gas. He could
- 7:52Speaker 1: have got him out of there for sure, nothing like that.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But I did think he was being a little too
- 7:58Speaker 1: cautious down the stretch that fight. And I'm not even
- 8:02Speaker 1: talking with the last ninety seconds or something like that.
- 8:05Speaker 1: But overall he did dominate you know, the rounds. That
- 8:11Speaker 1: really wasn't any kind of argument, right, I mean, how
- 8:16Speaker 1: many rounds could you even give to Garcia? So it
- 8:19Speaker 1: was a good performance. He got the job done. Garcia
- 8:22Speaker 1: was coming off, you know, an impressive win heading into
- 8:25Speaker 1: that fight, so you know, he landed one ninety nine
- 8:29Speaker 1: to one thirty.
- 8:31Speaker 4: He was a lot more accurate thirty eight percent overall
- 8:35Speaker 4: to twenty two percent, and almost sixty punches to the
- 8:39Speaker 4: body fifty nine and thirty one. So I did like
- 8:42Speaker 4: that jab like I mentioned, going to the head and the.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Body by Xander. You know, I liked what I saw
- 8:50Speaker 1: out of him for the most part, but you know,
- 8:57Speaker 1: sometimes you're not gonna look great every single time. There
- 9:01Speaker 1: was a lot to like about his performance that I
- 9:05Speaker 1: will say that overall. So you know, who's up next
- 9:13Speaker 1: Ferndora would be a you know, good matchup. Now. I
- 9:19Speaker 1: don't know this to be one factual, but let's just say,
- 9:23Speaker 1: if if what the side of Xander Ziez xanders Ziaz
- 9:36Speaker 1: was talking about that the Fundora aside wanted to put
- 9:42Speaker 1: a weight limit, like a rehydration in there. Obviously not
- 9:50Speaker 1: a huge fan of that. If that's true and that
- 9:55Speaker 1: stopped the fight or let's say next in the coming
- 10:00Speaker 1: year or whatever, if that were to stop the fight.
- 10:03Speaker 2: That would be that would be bullshit.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Obviously. I don't know if it's factual, but just hearing
- 10:15Speaker 1: that kind of makes you like scratch your head, you know, like,
- 10:19Speaker 1: what why would you huh? You know, you know, obviously
- 10:25Speaker 1: the IBF besides unifications, the IBF does have a rehydration
- 10:31Speaker 1: clause and whatnot. So but yeah, I don't know, I
- 10:37Speaker 1: don't know if that's true. I'm not saying it's not true,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you know, but if that's what Samson was trying to
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know, pull pull that that that's that'd be weak,
- 10:50Speaker 1: that'd be very weak. But yeah, I mean there's so much,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know, so many fights a pluffor row fights for
- 10:59Speaker 1: Zaia as in the you know, we'll see I think
- 11:02Speaker 1: someone's gonna have to push him even more to see
- 11:05Speaker 1: his ceiling. You know, this was an easy fight for him,
- 11:09Speaker 1: or you know, not that difficult. Maybe I should frame
- 11:13Speaker 1: it that way, but overall, a good performance. Like I said,
- 11:17Speaker 1: kind of left some stuff on the table, but overall
- 11:20Speaker 1: I thought it was good. All right, Bruce Shoeshoe Carrington
- 11:24Speaker 1: and the was itte hatera. I think it's like Hata
- 11:33Speaker 1: like hater but Hata no Carrington. You know, the jab,
- 11:39Speaker 1: the right hand looked pretty good. There was a really
- 11:41Speaker 1: nice right hand by hat in the in the first round.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Second round, Hata land in more right hands early, the jab,
- 11:49Speaker 1: the right hands, the body. I really liked what I
- 11:52Speaker 1: saw to Carrington in that form. I gave Carrington most.
- 11:57Speaker 1: The second round was close. The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I gave all to Carrington, like I said, the right
- 12:05Speaker 1: hands to the body and head. I thought he closed
- 12:08Speaker 1: stronger in the fourth more jab and right hand working
- 12:12Speaker 1: the body and had short shots up close in the fifth,
- 12:17Speaker 1: the sixth round the lead right hands, then mixing in
- 12:20Speaker 1: the left hook more and more as the fight went on.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I did think the first round I thought was clear
- 12:28Speaker 1: for Haita was the seventh the hooks, the uppercuts, the
- 12:32Speaker 1: really the right hook especially. I thought he did some
- 12:35Speaker 1: really good work there and he carried it in the
- 12:37Speaker 1: eighth round because it was a two way round. I
- 12:39Speaker 1: did think some of the hooks that Carrington landed while
- 12:44Speaker 1: fighting off the ropes, like fighting his way off the ropes,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I should say I liked. I liked it there. The
- 12:51Speaker 1: ninth and tenth I think you could split those rounds,
- 12:58Speaker 1: so there's another round for Haita. But I thought that
- 13:03Speaker 1: it was more Carrington down the stretch of this fight,
- 13:06Speaker 1: kind of moving on the outside more and more. I
- 13:09Speaker 1: thought some of the stuff he did in the eleventh
- 13:11Speaker 1: stick and move was pretty good and you know, solid.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Defense, the cleaner lands.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Carrington looked pretty good. I know Bradley was kind of saying, hey,
- 13:23Speaker 1: you know, if this guy hata face this dude, his
- 13:27Speaker 1: head would be off, you know, in the front row,
- 13:29Speaker 1: or he didn't say that I'm just kidding. He did
- 13:31Speaker 1: say he'd go over the ropes, though, and then he
- 13:34Speaker 1: kept naming the champions and saying this what he would
- 13:37Speaker 1: do to Hayda, this is what he would do to Hada.
- 13:40Speaker 1: He basically he was saying Carrington should have shoeshoe hnded
- 13:47Speaker 1: out of the ring. Basically he should have went for
- 13:49Speaker 1: the knockout, is what Bradley was basically saying. And I
- 13:53Speaker 1: do think he did kind of like Xander Ziaz get
- 13:56Speaker 1: a little bit careful, I guess you could say. And
- 14:02Speaker 1: like I said, it's not the last part of the
- 14:05Speaker 1: last round. You know, if you have a championship or
- 14:09Speaker 1: a big fight and you're winning and you're winning cleanly
- 14:12Speaker 1: the last ninety seconds whatever, even the last round. But
- 14:16Speaker 1: it was in both cases, I thought it was before
- 14:19Speaker 1: the last round, so they could have done more instead
- 14:22Speaker 1: of just wanting to stick and move mode. But either way,
- 14:27Speaker 1: Carrington end Ziaz did get the job done. We'll talk
- 14:31Speaker 1: a little bit about you know, some other action too.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna go ahead and bring in John into the
- 14:37Speaker 1: fold here.
- 14:39Speaker 2: You should be popping in any second.
- 14:45Speaker 1: There we go. All right, what's going on? John? How
- 14:54Speaker 1: you doing? Hey?
- 14:54Speaker 5: Hey, Chris, how's it going tonight?
- 14:56Speaker 2: Not bad man, not bad at all. Actually, let me
- 14:59Speaker 2: put my camp wrong.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I had mine off. It looked like for a
- 15:03Speaker 5: second there, that's right.
- 15:06Speaker 2: How was I was vacation?
- 15:08Speaker 5: Sir? Oh, thanks for asking. I had a real good
- 15:11Speaker 5: vacation down the Jersey Shore last last week and.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Very very relaxing.
- 15:18Speaker 5: Had some family joined me down there, my brother, my
- 15:22Speaker 5: brother and my niece and my son was was working.
- 15:26Speaker 5: He's uh, he's in law enforcement, so he's got some
- 15:30Speaker 5: he's got some rough hours there. Yeah, I bet, yeah,
- 15:34Speaker 5: but but it was it was good vacation.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Okay, nice, you gotta you gotta unwine on the Jersey Shore.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I'm actually gonna go. You know, it's funny we we
- 15:44Speaker 1: call it up north here. For some reason, we say
- 15:47Speaker 1: up north when we're going to northern Minnesota, like on
- 15:51Speaker 1: the North Shore by the Loop, we call that the
- 15:53Speaker 1: North Shore. But when you're just going straight north where
- 15:56Speaker 1: a bunch of lakes are like chains of lakes, we
- 15:59Speaker 1: just call it up nor. I don't know why.
- 16:01Speaker 2: People from all the country like.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Give me shit because they're like, oh, really, you're going
- 16:05Speaker 1: to Alaska or where you're going?
- 16:07Speaker 2: You know what I mean, you're going up north.
- 16:08Speaker 1: You're already north, you know, but yeah, next week kind
- 16:12Speaker 1: of during the week, I'm gonna I'm gonna try to
- 16:14Speaker 1: get out of the city for a couple of days
- 16:16Speaker 1: and get on the lakes, you know, and just enjoy
- 16:19Speaker 1: some of this summer that would go. We got like
- 16:22Speaker 1: a month left before college football kicks in and all that.
- 16:26Speaker 1: So on one hand, you know, I'm happy that football
- 16:29Speaker 1: is back, but in the other I'm trying to relax
- 16:32Speaker 1: and you know, get get all I can out of
- 16:35Speaker 1: out of summer, you know what I mean.
- 16:37Speaker 5: I agree with you, Like we were talking a couple
- 16:38Speaker 5: of weeks ago, I feel like that's where the cycle
- 16:42Speaker 5: of the summer in the whole country has changed a
- 16:44Speaker 5: little bit, especially in Northeast because it was one of
- 16:47Speaker 5: the last holdouts where for the reasons you said, you know,
- 16:51Speaker 5: a lot of your summer activities get pushed more into July.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Now.
- 16:57Speaker 5: You know, when I was a little kid, especially in
- 17:01Speaker 5: Northeast New Jersey, it was like, you know, you were
- 17:03Speaker 5: you were straight through the Labor Day. You know, we
- 17:05Speaker 5: were right, we were literally vacationing on the Labor Day weekend.
- 17:08Speaker 5: That's that's in the early seventies that that was part
- 17:11Speaker 5: of our couple of weeks and that was common, very common.
- 17:15Speaker 1: It was, you know, he's very A lot of kids
- 17:18Speaker 1: start on Tuesday, you know that Tuesday school, but I
- 17:21Speaker 1: see a lot of people starting before the holiday. Now
- 17:25Speaker 1: that's what changed.
- 17:26Speaker 5: I mean, all that kind of stuff changed things, especially
- 17:28Speaker 5: more in the South, but but in other areas too.
- 17:31Speaker 5: It's even come a little bit more to Jersey, to
- 17:34Speaker 5: the Northeast, and it used to in some spots at
- 17:36Speaker 5: least by a couple of days. There they still go
- 17:38Speaker 5: the latest in that calendar. But yeah, I felt like that.
- 17:41Speaker 5: And then the increasing popularity of football. That's why when
- 17:44Speaker 5: you mentioned it, I felt like that was a factor
- 17:47Speaker 5: that that's football just got more and more popular. It
- 17:50Speaker 5: was popular, but then it just it just got to
- 17:52Speaker 5: where NFL college football dwarfed everything else. So people do
- 17:57Speaker 5: get focused on that when college starts and having their
- 18:01Speaker 5: season creep up. I remember again when I was a kid,
- 18:04Speaker 5: when they remember when they were short in September one
- 18:06Speaker 5: one year, it was a big deal right early exactly.
- 18:10Speaker 5: Then you went into August and you went way beyond that.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Yeah, over the years, they ad a game at a
- 18:16Speaker 1: game at.
- 18:16Speaker 6: A you know, yeah, I do remember when it wasn't
- 18:21Speaker 6: twelve games, that's for sure, during the regular season and
- 18:24Speaker 6: obviously in in you know, NFL, you know, there was a.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Time of his twelve games. So we'll talk about what happened,
- 18:34Speaker 1: you know, this last weekend. But since you didn't join
- 18:37Speaker 1: us the prior weekend, you know, with Usik and whatnot,
- 18:42Speaker 1: I would like you to get your take. A lot
- 18:44Speaker 1: of the historians coming out and trying to rank usk
- 18:49Speaker 1: I personally, you know, I kind of I stay in
- 18:53Speaker 1: my lane. You know, Do I know some history, Yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 1: of course, I love boxing. You know, I know some history,
- 18:59Speaker 1: but I do like to let I don't know, even
- 19:02Speaker 1: historians argue with each other, right, I mean that that's
- 19:05Speaker 1: what happens, you know, that's that's the whole debate. But yeah,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I'd like to hear your take from the weekend overall.
- 19:11Speaker 1: We'll start with Usik just because you know, the dude.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Well, it was a lot of activity and a lot
- 19:18Speaker 5: of activity, and I got to be fair, I'm not
- 19:20Speaker 5: backing off going in. It certainly didn't work out that way,
- 19:23Speaker 5: and it's definitely worth breaking down. Yeah, I mean, I've
- 19:26Speaker 5: been thinking about it quite a bit actually, because which
- 19:29Speaker 5: you know, Usak and Dubois, even though they had fought once,
- 19:32Speaker 5: I felt like at the stage it was one of
- 19:36Speaker 5: the best fights I could have been made in boxing.
- 19:39Speaker 5: And I'll still stay by that going in, even though
- 19:42Speaker 5: it didn't work out as any kind of a good fight,
- 19:44Speaker 5: so to speak. Sure, but that in part says a
- 19:48Speaker 5: lot about boxing too, because I'll stay with it. But
- 19:50Speaker 5: then I'll I'll say that says a lot about where
- 19:53Speaker 5: we are. So you know, I'm kind of looking combination
- 19:59Speaker 5: of actors. You know, one thing, going in, You're looking
- 20:02Speaker 5: at Usik's age at thirty eight, even though he hadn't
- 20:05Speaker 5: really shown any particular decline, and you're saying, well, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 5: at any time, maybe he could show that. And then
- 20:12Speaker 5: you know, Dubois, we were it was very unusual, and
- 20:16Speaker 5: I've said, as we talked about it in real time
- 20:19Speaker 5: when it happened, you know, it was unusual to be
- 20:22Speaker 5: saying like, well, it looks like du Boise taking a
- 20:25Speaker 5: good shot now and showing showing your heart. But we
- 20:30Speaker 5: ended up getting to me a combination of factors where
- 20:34Speaker 5: Usk and if people want to, you know, really praise
- 20:39Speaker 5: him for this, I get that like, you know, he's
- 20:42Speaker 5: very fresh at thirty eight. You know, he didn't obviously
- 20:46Speaker 5: show any decline in fight, so you had that factor
- 20:50Speaker 5: usic not declining at thirty eight, which is is hard
- 20:53Speaker 5: to do. Give him all the props for that. And
- 20:57Speaker 5: of course he is good. We're not saying he's not good.
- 20:59Speaker 5: He's still on the face he did you know, never
- 21:02Speaker 5: been never been officially down. But we also on the
- 21:07Speaker 5: other side, let's just say it, even though Ustik's real good,
- 21:10Speaker 5: because we've seen this from Dubois before, we kind of
- 21:14Speaker 5: got the old Dubois like you know, I mean, I
- 21:19Speaker 5: told you the one thing that's tip stuck and sticking
- 21:21Speaker 5: out for me that I couldn't reconcile. But then I
- 21:25Speaker 5: was kind of at a point where you were kind
- 21:27Speaker 5: of starting to overlook it was the guy was almost
- 21:30Speaker 5: out against Lorraina right in the early part of the fight.
- 21:35Speaker 5: So you've you know, even though he had that, and
- 21:42Speaker 5: you know, his effort in this fight really wasn't wasn't
- 21:46Speaker 5: very good.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Let's face it.
- 21:47Speaker 5: I mean, let's look at the first was what was
- 21:49Speaker 5: the first knockdown? Okay, you know we've seen a lot
- 21:52Speaker 5: of replays of the second knockdown. You got caught with
- 21:55Speaker 5: a shot by you know, I did put this on
- 21:58Speaker 5: X afterward because I saw you saw with people getting
- 22:01Speaker 5: a little bit too carried away USI's got three stoppages
- 22:06Speaker 5: at heavyweight. Two of them are against the other ones
- 22:10Speaker 5: against Chas Witherspoon. Now, he hurt Fury, but but he
- 22:15Speaker 5: didn't of stopping him, and Fury is a huge guy.
- 22:19Speaker 5: But I mean that's still where we're at. He's he's
- 22:22Speaker 5: got three stoppages at heavyweight and two of them are
- 22:24Speaker 5: against du Wa and the other ones against Chaz Witherspoon.
- 22:28Speaker 5: So what I'm hinting around there is that says something
- 22:33Speaker 5: keep it respective. It says something about du bois too Now,
- 22:37Speaker 5: you know, I totally you know, I have always, you know,
- 22:41Speaker 5: in my time following the sport. You know, the history
- 22:44Speaker 5: is a big part of it for me. I think
- 22:46Speaker 5: you made a good point, Chris, just in a sense.
- 22:48Speaker 5: I was a little surprised that some of the historian
- 22:50Speaker 5: types were saying and not all of them were that.
- 22:53Speaker 5: But I feel like we need all the boxing fans
- 22:57Speaker 5: we can get. But I do feel like in previous
- 23:00Speaker 5: generations of boxing fans kind of being more cognizant in
- 23:05Speaker 5: the history, went with the sport. And and you know
- 23:08Speaker 5: what I will blame for that is I'll blame for
- 23:11Speaker 5: that a lot. Something I rant about every week we talk,
- 23:15Speaker 5: which is, you know, promoters and TV doing cheap, cheap
- 23:21Speaker 5: promotion of fights that aren't that good by just talking
- 23:23Speaker 5: about alphabet belts.
- 23:25Speaker 2: So well, for instance, this was an undisputed fight.
- 23:28Speaker 5: Correct, two time undisputed, even though he never lost the
- 23:33Speaker 5: title in the ring, But somehow this is historical that
- 23:39Speaker 5: he's two time undisputed. I mean, that's the kind of
- 23:41Speaker 5: nonsense we can't be talking about. It's it's just and
- 23:45Speaker 5: and that I think that's what gets people clouded, because
- 23:47Speaker 5: I was even a bit surprised, like, okay, you want
- 23:50Speaker 5: to start king oh sick, but you want to do
- 23:54Speaker 5: it because he stopped du Bois.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Right, yeah, like this is the thing that put him
- 23:58Speaker 1: over the top, you know.
- 24:00Speaker 5: I mean it's not like Dubois hadn't had these problems
- 24:02Speaker 5: in the past. We were thinking he was over him,
- 24:05Speaker 5: but I think now and and I did put this
- 24:09Speaker 5: on X afterward too, because I was trying to give
- 24:11Speaker 5: people some food for thought, and these are the issues
- 24:13Speaker 5: I think still matter you've got to adjust, and.
- 24:15Speaker 1: This is just where I've adjusted.
- 24:19Speaker 5: You know, I'm looking back then at that Lorrena, which
- 24:22Speaker 5: I never forgot about because the guy was a cruiser
- 24:24Speaker 5: weight and he's got Dubois and all kinds of trouble
- 24:26Speaker 5: early almost stopped. But then now I've shifted. I think
- 24:32Speaker 5: now Dubois probably probably Dubois, and you know, Miller, Miller
- 24:40Speaker 5: had been awful lot even though he's a big guy,
- 24:44Speaker 5: his punching power as a heavy, he was always more
- 24:47Speaker 5: of a volume guy. And then Herkovich, Dubois took all
- 24:52Speaker 5: kinds of shots for him from kept coming. I mean,
- 24:56Speaker 5: who's the best guy? Hrkovic's knocked out, you know, yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 5: and obviously you don't come to a quick answer to that,
- 25:03Speaker 5: So yeah, exactly. And I thought he had a good
- 25:06Speaker 5: right hand. I thought he's really mechanical.
- 25:08Speaker 1: But Zang could have had him out too if he
- 25:10Speaker 1: would didn't get tired.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Exactly right, he had him out on his feet basically.
- 25:14Speaker 5: But but what I'm looking at there is now, this
- 25:17Speaker 5: is like if Duba won the fight fair and square,
- 25:19Speaker 5: don't get me wrong, but we're getting into the analysis
- 25:22Speaker 5: of it. I thought, because Dubois did show a lot
- 25:26Speaker 5: in that fight where he kept taking shots coming on. Yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 5: Herkovic was getting a little tired from just hitting him.
- 25:32Speaker 5: But and Dubais the cut was caused by a punch.
- 25:38Speaker 5: But and and you know that's a fair win for
- 25:41Speaker 5: Dubas and you know he caused the cut. But I
- 25:44Speaker 5: did have a feeling there, like, you know, if Herkovic
- 25:47Speaker 5: wasn't cut, I'm not sure Dubois was gonna you know,
- 25:50Speaker 5: was gonna win that fight right now, fair win. But
- 25:53Speaker 5: I'm just so here's what I get to now. He
- 25:55Speaker 5: he obliterated Anthony Joshua talked about that before fight.
- 26:00Speaker 2: That still stands definitely.
- 26:02Speaker 5: But my revised analysis based on what I saw with
- 26:06Speaker 5: Dubla against Usik is the Joshua fight was probably the aberration.
- 26:14Speaker 5: And what it probably is this is my educated and.
- 26:18Speaker 1: He probably got up for that one knowing where it
- 26:20Speaker 1: wasn't all out right.
- 26:21Speaker 5: But it's probably my educated speculation that I'm going to
- 26:24Speaker 5: operate on this theory right now that du Bois and
- 26:30Speaker 5: Joshua both have power and such flawed gins and resiliency
- 26:35Speaker 5: that if they fight five times, you're gonna probably you'd
- 26:38Speaker 5: probably get five five wild wacky results, which then I
- 26:43Speaker 5: also did post I would propose, and sometimes the promoters
- 26:47Speaker 5: will come around to this type of thing. You probably
- 26:50Speaker 5: can sell that rematch because fans probably will start sensing that,
- 26:56Speaker 5: and maybe Joshua himself will even sense it. Even though
- 27:00Speaker 5: there was a brutal ko that, hey, look if I
- 27:02Speaker 5: get in there with this guy again, you know, I
- 27:04Speaker 5: heard him right before I got knocked out, even though
- 27:06Speaker 5: I'd been in all kinds of trouble, I may just
- 27:09Speaker 5: start throwing bombs at this guy from the first bell,
- 27:14Speaker 5: and it's going to be somebody. Somebody's going you know,
- 27:16Speaker 5: and and fans. That's entertaining for the fans. So the
- 27:20Speaker 5: nineteen fifties, they probably would fight five times, right and
- 27:24Speaker 5: exactly you probably would get that. I agree, So I'll
- 27:27Speaker 5: throw that out there. But then then so conclusion on
- 27:31Speaker 5: that fight, Dubois Usik too is like, you know, part
- 27:36Speaker 5: part Usk being good and being very well preserved at
- 27:39Speaker 5: thirty eight. Yeah, part Dubois, the Joshua fight is probably
- 27:46Speaker 5: the probably the aberration there, and that that we we
- 27:51Speaker 5: need more, We need to see more to find out
- 27:54Speaker 5: what that was about. And then we probably probably just
- 27:59Speaker 5: got a little carried away with you know, Miller and
- 28:02Speaker 5: Herkovic as opponents, even though the effort was better for Blaw,
- 28:06Speaker 5: no doubt. But you just you watched this fight with Usak.
- 28:11Speaker 5: You just saw you saw the dublos that was in
- 28:14Speaker 5: there with Lorraina and Joyce and Ushak the first time,
- 28:18Speaker 5: and you know, I can't get that out of my mind.
- 28:21Speaker 5: I mean, you know, so so those flaws. Look, you
- 28:27Speaker 5: got to give Usa credit for being really, really good.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And then he took care of business when he you know,
- 28:32Speaker 1: when he had him hurry, took care of business.
- 28:34Speaker 5: And I like that a lot too. I agree with you, Chris,
- 28:36Speaker 5: that's something you got. You got to give him a
- 28:38Speaker 5: lot of credit for there. Whatever he was in with, right,
- 28:41Speaker 5: he took care of business. This guy wants to go,
- 28:43Speaker 5: I'm not going to play around with him. I'm getting
- 28:45Speaker 5: him out of here and still a much smaller guy.
- 28:49Speaker 2: So yeah, beautiful shot, too.
- 28:51Speaker 5: Beautiful shot. You know, give him all the credit in
- 28:54Speaker 5: the world for that. The guy, the guy takes care
- 28:56Speaker 5: of business. He read the situation, got him out of there.
- 29:00Speaker 5: But you know, I saw like like a guy who
- 29:04Speaker 5: who should know what he's talking about today. That's the
- 29:06Speaker 5: part that is bothers and he's he has Oosick number
- 29:09Speaker 5: two all time, ahead of Ali with Lennox Lewis's number one.
- 29:13Speaker 5: And I'm like, what what you know? You're not And
- 29:18Speaker 5: when you do lists that there's another thing you should
- 29:21Speaker 5: do then, especially at heavyweight, okay, like make it clear,
- 29:26Speaker 5: like there's a historical way to do a list where
- 29:30Speaker 5: you look at what the guy accomplished in his era
- 29:34Speaker 5: and you just leave it at that. Okay, Yeah, then
- 29:37Speaker 5: there's another way of doing the list where you're really
- 29:40Speaker 5: saying like, well, who would have really beaten who there?
- 29:42Speaker 5: And we know it styles, but but you're leaning more
- 29:45Speaker 5: that way. I see these lists like are all over
- 29:47Speaker 5: the map, but they're missmashes of this kind of stuff.
- 29:50Speaker 5: And like to me, when you're working to a lot
- 29:53Speaker 5: of fandom and Tyson will be ranked high and you're like,
- 29:57Speaker 5: well hold on, hold on, yeah, and then some of them,
- 30:00Speaker 5: like I thought then he'd be the guy they leave out,
- 30:02Speaker 5: but then they got him at like five.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Which is is too high.
- 30:07Speaker 5: They totally they totally forget about Joe Fraser, who's the
- 30:13Speaker 5: closest guy to beating Ali in his Ali's prime, dropping him.
- 30:18Speaker 1: We know what kind of Chinn.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Ali had and look, you know, Joe, Joe Fraser only
- 30:24Speaker 5: lost to two guys, Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
- 30:28Speaker 1: That's not a bad loss.
- 30:30Speaker 5: I'm not people don't get when I start to see
- 30:32Speaker 5: in the Joe Fraser disappear and I'm like, wait a second, guys,
- 30:36Speaker 5: you're not you know, you're not getting it. I mean
- 30:38Speaker 5: this guy lost to Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. You know,
- 30:44Speaker 5: I mean you got to you got to keep that
- 30:46Speaker 5: in perspective. And his style would if you're looking to
- 30:50Speaker 5: fight who's fighting who, Who's six style wouldn't be a
- 30:53Speaker 5: problem for him. Sure, Yeah, I'm serious about that, like
- 30:57Speaker 5: you know, like like that's a style that you know,
- 31:00Speaker 5: that's that's what made Joe Fraser tough for Ali, you know,
- 31:03Speaker 5: because the head movement and he has that ability to
- 31:08Speaker 5: put you in the corner, to put the pressure and.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Just kind of in that low center of gravity real tight.
- 31:13Speaker 5: Yeah right, and have the resiliency, you know, I mean
- 31:17Speaker 5: Foreman is just you know, Foreman just just the strength
- 31:21Speaker 5: and you know, just you know, the style matchup and
- 31:25Speaker 5: you know, Fraser took a lot of shots in the
- 31:27Speaker 5: Ali fight, but I'm going to carry it away. But
- 31:29Speaker 5: like one one historical person I saw. To me, this
- 31:34Speaker 5: was a little bit more of a saying, take like
- 31:36Speaker 5: if you want to start saying, like a like a
- 31:39Speaker 5: Vladimir Klitschko was around ten and then USI's maybe shown
- 31:45Speaker 5: to be more resilient and he's still undefeated. You know
- 31:49Speaker 5: that you want to start saying, you know, maybe maybe
- 31:51Speaker 5: I'm you know, I mean vlad Clitchko lost to ross
- 31:53Speaker 5: Purity early in his career. They quit there then you know,
- 31:57Speaker 5: got stopped by Brewster Sanders. So you know, if you
- 32:00Speaker 5: want to say, I mean, but he had a long
- 32:01Speaker 5: run as lineal, So that's what he's got in is fair.
- 32:05Speaker 5: That's That's the other thing that bothers me, Like historians
- 32:07Speaker 5: need to know this. And I don't like when some
- 32:10Speaker 5: historians then want to play the alphabet game instead of
- 32:13Speaker 5: holding firm. I mean, I'm a traditionalist like this, and
- 32:16Speaker 5: and I saw historians who know better weakening on this,
- 32:19Speaker 5: Like one analysis historians got to go right to historian,
- 32:23Speaker 5: you're not looking at alphabets, you know. So I mean
- 32:27Speaker 5: Usik beat Fury for the lineal title. Okay, this is
- 32:31Speaker 5: so this is defense number two right, yeah, yeah, And
- 32:36Speaker 5: I'm like I saw people. I'm not gonna call him
- 32:37Speaker 5: by name, but that's what did annoy me right right
- 32:40Speaker 5: an hour after the fight, like even some of the
- 32:42Speaker 5: good analysis, like I said to me, the better analysis,
- 32:45Speaker 5: like well maybe you're talking about him as ten well,
- 32:48Speaker 5: but but it was still wasn't put in perspective that
- 32:51Speaker 5: he beat Fury for the lineal He's made two defenses. Yes,
- 32:55Speaker 5: and then we're throwing Joe Frazier for a while too,
- 32:59Speaker 5: once a year for a while too. So like from
- 33:02Speaker 5: his I mean, Anthony Joshua has never been the lineal champ.
- 33:04Speaker 5: I mean a historian, especially at heavyweight. You have to
- 33:09Speaker 5: look at that, not even close. It's not it's not
- 33:12Speaker 5: He's never even you know, challenged for then.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing. Yeah he had a chance to.
- 33:17Speaker 2: But he did exactly right.
- 33:18Speaker 5: I mean, and you know, I always felt that hern
- 33:20Speaker 5: didn't put enough emphasis on that. I mean, you know,
- 33:23Speaker 5: the guy been around a while. It was time, like
- 33:25Speaker 5: it was time to actually kind of target that and
- 33:27Speaker 5: at least have the guys start saying it. I kept
- 33:29Speaker 5: waiting it, and I just for it. I just never
- 33:31Speaker 5: heard it much. So let's throw the alphabet parts out.
- 33:35Speaker 5: So and then I saw again the fanboy stuff like
- 33:39Speaker 5: I saw then people again who should know better saying
- 33:42Speaker 5: like well he beat all those cruiser weights and stuff.
- 33:45Speaker 5: Well again, that's still that's not lineal heavyweight championship. I
- 33:50Speaker 5: mean that that's still like I even look at that
- 33:52Speaker 5: as a historian, like when I'm doing that as a historian,
- 33:55Speaker 5: which I think is the way you do when you
- 33:56Speaker 5: come up with the good results, you know, you start
- 33:59Speaker 5: then evaluating it, like, well, what if there only were
- 34:01Speaker 5: still eight divisions, Like let's say there wasn't a weight
- 34:05Speaker 5: like some of those guys, including Usk himself, they would
- 34:09Speaker 5: have to me ranking like they would have been around
- 34:12Speaker 5: nine or ten a long time ago.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Hey yeah, yeah, you're right, because they would have been
- 34:15Speaker 2: heavyweight right.
- 34:16Speaker 5: Away, right, so you know, like they would have been
- 34:18Speaker 5: like contenders. But that still wouldn't have been like Usick.
- 34:21Speaker 5: He wasn't the lineal champ when he was, you know,
- 34:24Speaker 5: a cruiserweight camp, so he would have been a contender.
- 34:28Speaker 5: I look at it that way, like I look at
- 34:29Speaker 5: it in a historical perspective. He was like a long
- 34:33Speaker 5: time heavyweight contender who took advantage of his lineal shot,
- 34:37Speaker 5: got it. You know, later on you know, then beat
- 34:42Speaker 5: your in the rematch, which that makes that conclusive. And
- 34:45Speaker 5: you know, so now he's got du bois was you know,
- 34:48Speaker 5: with the state where we're in, he was like the
- 34:50Speaker 5: leading available contender. I've got to even say that. It's
- 34:53Speaker 5: kind of kind of sad, but so yeah, so that's good.
- 34:57Speaker 5: Like you, then you start talking about him, you know,
- 35:00Speaker 5: maybe like whoa is this guy top ten? But you
- 35:03Speaker 5: know this is putting him near the top and saying
- 35:05Speaker 5: there was even fool saying like the greatest heavyweight ever
- 35:09Speaker 5: and right now the only way you could try to
- 35:11Speaker 5: do that, I wouldn't agree with it, But like you
- 35:14Speaker 5: then got to say, I'm taking it as a it's
- 35:16Speaker 5: who B two and I think five trained guy with
- 35:21Speaker 5: his abilities, right, But they're not saying that, They're like, ye,
- 35:25Speaker 5: well then all these too or something like that.
- 35:28Speaker 1: You've got to rank theory pretty damn high, then too
- 35:31Speaker 1: exactly right, you got to rank him super high if
- 35:34Speaker 1: it was six, number one or number.
- 35:35Speaker 5: Two, exactly exactly. So that's my take on that part.
- 35:39Speaker 5: With the history. I was a little surprised how overboorn
- 35:43Speaker 5: a lot of people.
- 35:45Speaker 2: I think some of it is just Twitter impressions too.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I really think so.
- 35:49Speaker 1: I hope anyway that a lot of it's just impressions
- 35:52Speaker 1: that they're trying to create engagement. Yeah on Twitter, I
- 35:57Speaker 1: really hope at least maybe fifth percent of it is that,
- 36:01Speaker 1: because if not, it's just.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Like hey, yay, you know, like talking.
- 36:07Speaker 5: About waiting for like like some of the real historians
- 36:10Speaker 5: and a couple of people were and they weren't coming
- 36:13Speaker 5: out really with the right analysis and that I did
- 36:17Speaker 5: find I'm with you, I found it disturbed. I did
- 36:20Speaker 5: find it disturbing. And I think it's where boxing, like baseball,
- 36:24Speaker 5: to me, was always like this too. I think those
- 36:26Speaker 5: were like the team popular sports, but I think they're
- 36:29Speaker 5: they're both very historically oriented and it used to really
- 36:34Speaker 5: go with the and it used to go with the
- 36:36Speaker 5: fan bases, especially intense fan bases I see in boxing.
- 36:40Speaker 1: I think a lot of it is this alphabet.
- 36:42Speaker 5: Nonsense and the lack of credible writers and things like
- 36:46Speaker 5: that that you know, I see some people just losing
- 36:49Speaker 5: losing context of the history in the last two years.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Yeah, because the same reason in the FOURD Belt, the
- 36:56Speaker 1: same reason during the Ford Belt stuff that we're in
- 36:59Speaker 1: that then dispute, it didn't happen it just so happens
- 37:03Speaker 1: that it's happening now because it's allowed to happen. You know.
- 37:06Speaker 1: It's you can't weigh it too much. It's great you
- 37:12Speaker 1: got all the belts, man, that's phenomenal, but you can't
- 37:15Speaker 1: take away from people that didn't do it because it
- 37:19Speaker 1: was politics. So either way, you know, now it's a
- 37:22Speaker 1: hot thing to do, you know, every other week in
- 37:26Speaker 1: the women's side of the boxing, they're undisputed, you know.
- 37:30Speaker 1: But I do think people, although it's great sometimes that's awesome,
- 37:34Speaker 1: we're getting the belts together. Of course they go right
- 37:37Speaker 1: back alone, you know, and they go right they get
- 37:40Speaker 1: stripped anyway, so you're not keeping them together, and they're
- 37:45Speaker 1: getting stripped for bad reasons.
- 37:46Speaker 5: So and it's it's allowing cover for bad fights because
- 37:51Speaker 5: it goes under the assumption that the alphabets are their
- 37:58Speaker 5: belt holders are the best post matchups, and and they're
- 38:02Speaker 5: they're not. They're not, especially with all the weight classes,
- 38:05Speaker 5: and especially with the politics of the alphabets. I mean,
- 38:07Speaker 5: they don't even rank the other sanctioning bodies champions and
- 38:12Speaker 5: the rankings are just filled with corruption. All you gotta
- 38:15Speaker 5: do is look at them.
- 38:16Speaker 1: When when was that a habit that started even in
- 38:19Speaker 1: the three belt era. Was that something that always was
- 38:23Speaker 1: there for a while, like ranking not ranking the chaps outside.
- 38:29Speaker 1: I remember, I remember like as.
- 38:31Speaker 5: A box of it.
- 38:32Speaker 1: It goes way back.
- 38:33Speaker 5: But I remember as a boxing fan when I found
- 38:35Speaker 5: out they were doing that, I was shocked at how
- 38:37Speaker 5: bad it was because it's so stupid, like in my
- 38:41Speaker 5: early boxing fandom days with the alphabets, like I just
- 38:46Speaker 5: assumed they didn't do that that I started looking at
- 38:48Speaker 5: it like why is that? Then I thought, well, they're
- 38:50Speaker 5: just doing that. Then I saw it was actually policy,
- 38:53Speaker 5: and that's what I got. Got outraged like that because
- 38:56Speaker 5: it shows it's just all crooked and corrupt the Key
- 39:00Speaker 5: themselves going and you know they they don't they don't
- 39:03Speaker 5: rank the other alphabet organizations.
- 39:08Speaker 1: I don't remember when I found out about it, I
- 39:13Speaker 1: think somewhere in my late teens, but I just remember
- 39:17Speaker 1: looking at the Ring anyway and not giving two ships
- 39:20Speaker 1: about the belts that I just looked at the Ring rankings, and.
- 39:23Speaker 5: That's what I remember finding out about it, Like because
- 39:24Speaker 5: they used to credit, they used to get on them
- 39:27Speaker 5: more than they do now, which I loved. Yeah, same
- 39:29Speaker 5: with me, I think It was in my late teens
- 39:31Speaker 5: and I.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Was reading The Ring or something and I was like.
- 39:35Speaker 5: That that I saw that they were making fun of
- 39:37Speaker 5: it or something that I saw like the writers then
- 39:39Speaker 5: used to make fun of all the time they would
- 39:43Speaker 5: go at them. I used to literally roll on the
- 39:45Speaker 5: floor laughing. Du you know, ridicule so hard it was hilarious.
- 39:50Speaker 5: I remember that one guy, Jeff Ryan, who was a writer.
- 39:53Speaker 5: He was always funny, the k O and all them
- 39:56Speaker 5: and mm hmm for you know, long long and you
- 40:01Speaker 5: I would I would just be laughing out loud. Yeah, right,
- 40:06Speaker 5: you know at the newspaper writers would do it too.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that was the thing that because it's not
- 40:12Speaker 1: to be taken serious, so therefore that's how you deal
- 40:16Speaker 1: with it, you know. And when you're a talented writer,
- 40:19Speaker 1: it comes off the page really well. You know, that's exactly.
- 40:24Speaker 1: But you know, the USAK thing, I just looked at it.
- 40:28Speaker 1: It's like, hey man, this guy keeps showing it. I
- 40:30Speaker 1: didn't think he should be moved up anywhere on any
- 40:34Speaker 1: kind of ranking for this fight. I just thought it
- 40:36Speaker 1: was an awesome usak. He looked freaking sharp from the
- 40:40Speaker 1: jump he finished him off. What did you think about
- 40:45Speaker 1: the video that was going around with Dubois at his house.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Would look it looked like that it was an after party,
- 40:53Speaker 1: but it was really a pre party. What do you
- 40:56Speaker 1: think when you saw that? Like, wait, a set?
- 41:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I go into a little psychological analysis there, but
- 41:03Speaker 5: but when you live enough life, it doesn't you never
- 41:07Speaker 5: get all the answers. But yeah, if you look back
- 41:09Speaker 5: on and they you start figuring out more, it might
- 41:12Speaker 5: be true. And I would take that as like, especially
- 41:15Speaker 5: when you see this guy perform in the ring.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Yeah, why mindset like he's satisfied like.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Or like see I would That's where I'm going deep,
- 41:24Speaker 5: Like he he probably has a real lot of anxiety,
- 41:28Speaker 5: and and that's sometimes when your anxiety reaction, you know,
- 41:33Speaker 5: you make an excuses for yourself before the fight, even
- 41:36Speaker 5: like he's not going to say it to anybody, but like,
- 41:39Speaker 5: oh I was part you know, I was in an
- 41:41Speaker 5: hour before the fight and instead of like you know,
- 41:45Speaker 5: you're gonna you're gonna go in and you're just gonna
- 41:47Speaker 5: be completely prepared and if you lose, you lose, but
- 41:51Speaker 5: you're you're not going to give yourself any excuses in it.
- 41:54Speaker 5: That's why I looked at because to me, that's almost
- 41:56Speaker 5: the only way you can explain something like that with
- 41:59Speaker 5: a guy like him who's already had those downs like
- 42:03Speaker 5: like because because look, you know, and there are Look,
- 42:06Speaker 5: I'll leave it to pro boxers who were saying it,
- 42:08Speaker 5: like you know, Lennox Lewis said said it, uh, plenty
- 42:11Speaker 5: of others so Sergio Morris. So it's not like you know,
- 42:14Speaker 5: you want to say John un right, howfers saying it,
- 42:17Speaker 5: But hey, I'll just leave them that to the pro boxers.
- 42:20Speaker 5: They're saying this guy could have gotten up. He's got
- 42:24Speaker 5: a problem, you know, when the fight gets tough and
- 42:27Speaker 5: he feels like it's really going to be tough, that
- 42:30Speaker 5: he really doesn't want to be in it anymore. I mean,
- 42:33Speaker 5: that's that's that's former profight. Doesn't mean they know everything,
- 42:36Speaker 5: but on an issue like that, So we'll leave that
- 42:40Speaker 5: clear that that's you know, former pro fighters saying it
- 42:44Speaker 5: about the game.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and we have more than one example so that
- 42:47Speaker 1: you look at it, look at a guy.
- 42:50Speaker 5: But I think in a way it's comparable, even though
- 42:53Speaker 5: I don't want to put the blade this level of behavior,
- 42:56Speaker 5: but you'll know what I mean, Like you know, Andrew
- 42:59Speaker 5: Glo who had but then he had those moments like
- 43:03Speaker 5: why and I really was like crazy anxiety. Like in
- 43:08Speaker 5: other words, you know, in the first fight with Bo,
- 43:13Speaker 5: you know he's doing great, he just continues hitting him low.
- 43:18Speaker 5: Second fight brutal war to me, one of the most
- 43:20Speaker 5: underrated brutal wars where Lota is taken a lot of
- 43:24Speaker 5: shots too, right, and you know, the corner really had
- 43:27Speaker 5: the scream at him. It looked like he wanted to quit,
- 43:29Speaker 5: but then he didn't and he had that bad faceration
- 43:33Speaker 5: under his chin after he got dropped.
- 43:35Speaker 1: You know, Bo can hit.
- 43:35Speaker 5: I mean, you know, Bo is a huge puncher. There's
- 43:39Speaker 5: no doubt about that. You look at his career. I mean,
- 43:40Speaker 5: the guy's a huge puncher. So but then Galata then
- 43:44Speaker 5: you know he goes through all that, then he starts
- 43:46Speaker 5: doing it again. You know, like it was a brutal fight,
- 43:49Speaker 5: and there's something with there's something with the guy. I'd
- 43:52Speaker 5: heard stories from people in boxing in gyms and things
- 43:56Speaker 5: that that he just saw the guy have strange behavior
- 44:00Speaker 5: in the gym, just like you know, leaning against a post,
- 44:04Speaker 5: just crying, crying, you know, I mean, I'm not allowed
- 44:06Speaker 5: just like you know, so like just a lot you know,
- 44:10Speaker 5: people with you know, hey, boxing is the toughest sport,
- 44:13Speaker 5: That's what I mean.
- 44:14Speaker 2: So that's the thing. It can be embarrassing, it can
- 44:17Speaker 2: be a lot of things.
- 44:18Speaker 5: You know, right, embarrassing you could get killed in there,
- 44:21Speaker 5: you know, so's injury. And so I'm just saying like, look,
- 44:24Speaker 5: you know, that's got to be interesting with somebody like Duban.
- 44:27Speaker 5: You know, he was better against Joshua Miller and Herkovic,
- 44:31Speaker 5: but we've seen this before, so there's something there and
- 44:35Speaker 5: maybe in this bigger moment that that that the guy
- 44:39Speaker 5: just anxiety, whatever problems he has there he was not
- 44:44Speaker 5: down the stretch.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and with all eyes are on you during that spot.
- 44:49Speaker 1: It's it's it's hard to know how the normal person
- 44:53Speaker 1: would react, you know. It's it's it's pretty it's you know,
- 44:56Speaker 1: I know, even wrestling, facing the number one guy in
- 45:00Speaker 1: the state and he didn't pin me, but he scored
- 45:03Speaker 1: a lot of points, and it's just like I couldn't
- 45:05Speaker 1: do much to him, and it was just in front
- 45:09Speaker 1: of like your friends and family, and it just really
- 45:12Speaker 1: like I wasn't hurt like physically, but mentally after that fight,
- 45:18Speaker 1: I felt like, you know, I felt really bad.
- 45:20Speaker 5: Yeah, and wrestling is just one on one on one
- 45:23Speaker 5: just like that.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, nothing you can do about it.
- 45:27Speaker 1: You're just getting beat you know, Yeah, and you're trying
- 45:30Speaker 1: not to get pinned, and that's about it. But it's
- 45:33Speaker 1: just a it's just a weird feeling. It's almost like
- 45:36Speaker 1: I'd rather just get punched once and be knocked out,
- 45:39Speaker 1: you know, just like just get me out of here,
- 45:41Speaker 1: you know.
- 45:42Speaker 5: So, yeah, that one more thing I had under water,
- 45:46Speaker 5: and I didn't that that would be one thing that
- 45:48Speaker 5: would be consistent through all the good and bad. And
- 45:51Speaker 5: we talked about this too. And I'm not saying this
- 45:54Speaker 5: is why he lost the Usik from physically being beat up,
- 45:58Speaker 5: but he took so many shots, you know that that
- 46:01Speaker 5: was possibly going to be a problem for him, even
- 46:03Speaker 5: though he's still young. But but the thing I was
- 46:05Speaker 5: getting to is the one consistency though through all the
- 46:08Speaker 5: performances that maybe Usik is just a guy that's good
- 46:14Speaker 5: enough to really take advantage of. That is there was
- 46:16Speaker 5: no defense. That's that we can say. In the Miller fight,
- 46:20Speaker 5: the Hercuvic fight, the Joshua fight, he got caught right
- 46:23Speaker 5: before he took Joshua out the absolutely no. The guy has.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Absolutely no defense.
- 46:30Speaker 5: So you know, Usik's you know, a talented guy with
- 46:35Speaker 5: boxing skills, so you think, you know, to bos there's
- 46:38Speaker 5: just no defense there.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Yeah, especially at the heavyweight division, no defense.
- 46:43Speaker 1: It can be even different, you know. Yeah, all right,
- 46:47Speaker 1: So onto the Fundora beat down at Tim Zoo. You know,
- 46:52Speaker 1: Tim Zu got knocked down early, did come up and
- 46:56Speaker 1: try to throw those wild shots, and it just could
- 46:58Speaker 1: not get inside, couldn't jab his way inside, couldn't do much.
- 47:02Speaker 1: And when he's rendered on the outside bouncing, you know,
- 47:06Speaker 1: kind of kind of trying to counter with these loopings,
- 47:09Speaker 1: it's it's just not gonna be what he's gonna be
- 47:12Speaker 1: good at. And I really liked what I saw the
- 47:16Speaker 1: Frondora with the jab and like keeping him at the
- 47:20Speaker 1: end of his punch and and you know, I thought
- 47:23Speaker 1: that was, if not the best, one of the best
- 47:26Speaker 1: performances from fron Door. Let's talk a little bit about
- 47:29Speaker 1: that fight in the card in general.
- 47:31Speaker 5: Yeah, it was and uh one, you know that that
- 47:37Speaker 5: one I felt like I got right more ye didn't
- 47:42Speaker 5: didn't pick the stoppage, but Zoo did end up you know,
- 47:45Speaker 5: retiring the corner, you know, stoppage, but I mean, you know,
- 47:52Speaker 5: he was just he was just losing, losing the fight.
- 47:55Speaker 5: The one thing I liked at a Fundor I saw
- 47:58Speaker 5: was because he's devastating with it. And I feel like
- 48:03Speaker 5: the problem is he might not want to always take
- 48:05Speaker 5: the risk. But when Zoo was trying to get something
- 48:09Speaker 5: going a few times then Fondora ripped that uppercut he has,
- 48:14Speaker 5: that's devastating. And mean he was you know, like control
- 48:20Speaker 5: was control was re established. I mean, yeah, you know,
- 48:24Speaker 5: I mean that's a devastating punch. I mean when he
- 48:27Speaker 5: I mean, even though he's so big, so tall, even
- 48:30Speaker 5: when he wants to lean on somebody and just start
- 48:32Speaker 5: doing that, you know, he's coming up with that leverage.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Those arms are.
- 48:37Speaker 5: So long and he gets everything behind it, and you
- 48:39Speaker 5: just see the effect that that shot has on people
- 48:42Speaker 5: when he commits to it. It's it's just devastating. So
- 48:47Speaker 5: I like that, And you.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Know, Zoo.
- 48:51Speaker 5: Really, you know, you look at the fights, even as
- 48:54Speaker 5: earlier fights like like kind of the way you described Christo.
- 48:57Speaker 5: I mean, really the way he actually likes to fight
- 49:03Speaker 5: most of the time is trying to do that and
- 49:05Speaker 5: you can't do that against Fondora. Yeah, so you know,
- 49:09Speaker 5: and I think where people were maybe a little unfair
- 49:12Speaker 5: to Zoo. And this again too goes to the watering
- 49:15Speaker 5: down of boxing, like you know, it did get to
- 49:18Speaker 5: a point at one point fifty four when he was
- 49:21Speaker 5: on his run that you you know, he did even
- 49:24Speaker 5: for me, like with all seven you know, to me
- 49:27Speaker 5: again to make too many weight classes like he is,
- 49:30Speaker 5: you know, in the top couple of guys. But it
- 49:34Speaker 5: was his talent level really at that probably not I mean,
- 49:39Speaker 5: I mean, let's just really look at it, like, you know,
- 49:41Speaker 5: he took a break when he was an amateur for
- 49:43Speaker 5: a while. I think he said he had hand problems,
- 49:46Speaker 5: but but you had a while he didn't even fight.
- 49:48Speaker 5: And I brought this up before because Horn really was
- 49:51Speaker 5: not that good, you know, he survived Pack yeah that
- 49:54Speaker 5: one time, but the outside of that very limited guy,
- 49:58Speaker 5: when Zoo was matched up with Horn, and Zoo was
- 50:04Speaker 5: actually underdog, I mean, even though he blew him away
- 50:07Speaker 5: and dominated him. Like so what I'm saying is like
- 50:10Speaker 5: even in Australia, like they weren't you know, at that point,
- 50:14Speaker 5: they weren't looking at like, they weren't looking at him
- 50:19Speaker 5: like he was that you know, he was simp. He
- 50:21Speaker 5: was you know, Costazou's son, you know.
- 50:23Speaker 1: But but like I don't.
- 50:26Speaker 5: Think anybody was looking at him at like a as
- 50:28Speaker 5: like a top prospect. But then he blew away Horn
- 50:31Speaker 5: so easily, you know, and everyone's like, hey, maybe you know,
- 50:33Speaker 5: maybe this guy can can fight some and you know,
- 50:36Speaker 5: he started getting wins over the credible names. But with him,
- 50:41Speaker 5: you know, even though there's styles make fights and stuff.
- 50:43Speaker 5: What I'm curious now again with the analysis has to
- 50:47Speaker 5: always morph and shift, Like I'm a little curious to
- 50:50Speaker 5: see what Mersally is like like because he was nothing
- 50:55Speaker 5: before that. He was he was an IBF coddle, no big,
- 51:02Speaker 5: no big wins or anything. Kept doing the step aside thing,
- 51:05Speaker 5: you know, totally blew away Zoo. But like if we
- 51:08Speaker 5: see now in his next fight against a decent name,
- 51:13Speaker 5: even maybe he doesn't look that good or you know,
- 51:17Speaker 5: then then you might kind of put the whole picture
- 51:18Speaker 5: together and say, well maybe Zoo, you know, like Zoo
- 51:22Speaker 5: to me, he might have taken it as far as
- 51:24Speaker 5: he can. And like I saw a lot of like
- 51:27Speaker 5: the next day, a lot of talk like oh what
- 51:29Speaker 5: a shame, And you know, he had that cut and
- 51:32Speaker 5: he was with PBC and they mismanaged him. I'm not
- 51:36Speaker 5: I'm not going that far with all that. As I
- 51:39Speaker 5: saw the common commentary after it. I'm kind of more
- 51:42Speaker 5: operating like this might have been a guy who took
- 51:45Speaker 5: it as far as he could with what he had.
- 51:48Speaker 5: I do feel like I got it right that Spencer
- 51:51Speaker 5: may have overachieved. I think it's possible he got you know, yeah,
- 51:56Speaker 5: I think it's possible that that he really was at
- 51:58Speaker 5: his you know, a.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Lot of those people, John, we're probably saying he's gonna
- 52:03Speaker 1: knock out Thurman too, you know what I mean, right,
- 52:06Speaker 1: although Thurman's style lends itself to not getting knocked out,
- 52:10Speaker 1: you know, besides to the body of course. But yeah, yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 1: I'll tell you this though. When he was getting announced
- 52:17Speaker 1: in the ring, his eye, like his whole being just
- 52:22Speaker 1: it just didn't look right. It was like, man, I'm
- 52:25Speaker 1: doing this again. I gotta show hard. He showed heart
- 52:28Speaker 1: even when he went down, he kept fighting and all that.
- 52:31Speaker 1: You could see he's got a spirit in him to fight.
- 52:35Speaker 1: But like you said, it just you know, got about us.
- 52:39Speaker 1: I like the way you put that, got about as
- 52:41Speaker 1: far as he could and and Uh, you know, I
- 52:46Speaker 1: don't know, like you'd have to really rebuild if you're
- 52:48Speaker 1: gonna I don't you know what I mean, I don't know,
- 52:52Speaker 1: you know, but.
- 52:53Speaker 5: I think it's kind of fair to say they can
- 52:55Speaker 5: do what they want, but the sport's so dangerous. You know,
- 52:58Speaker 5: if you can't spend the money, what good is it
- 53:00Speaker 5: going to do you. I mean, it would seem to
- 53:02Speaker 5: me that, you know, I think he took it as
- 53:06Speaker 5: far as he could. I think he'd be a good
- 53:09Speaker 5: candidate to call it a day. I agree, you know,
- 53:12Speaker 5: That's what I'm thinking. And to backtrack a little, I'm
- 53:16Speaker 5: going to go opposite A lot of people. Even with
- 53:19Speaker 5: the performance USIC just had, people were saying, why retire.
- 53:22Speaker 5: I'm the exact opposite. He's thirty eight. He hasn't taken
- 53:25Speaker 5: the damage the money Masaudi's have gotten him in these
- 53:28Speaker 5: recent fights. You see the figures. Why why not be
- 53:31Speaker 5: able to spend it? I mean the sunset, you know,
- 53:35Speaker 5: right off in the sunset, Why take the chance? You
- 53:38Speaker 5: know people are looking at you historically now favorably. Why
- 53:41Speaker 5: why take the chance outside of the history it's heavyweights,
- 53:44Speaker 5: you know, you step in the wrong. He's thirty eight.
- 53:47Speaker 5: Your brain doesn't take it as well either. At that point,
- 53:49Speaker 5: you stepped in on the wrong night. You take all
- 53:52Speaker 5: those shots, then you can't spend the money like you
- 53:55Speaker 5: could have before.
- 53:56Speaker 1: That it's not it's not worth it. So mostly the
- 54:00Speaker 1: continue to clear out the divisions, like what more does
- 54:03Speaker 1: he really have to clear out? Though? Right? Like really,
- 54:06Speaker 1: I mean, okay, Parker, okay, great, But I mean is
- 54:09Speaker 1: that gonna are you gonna put him up another notch
- 54:12Speaker 1: for beating Parker? Like, I don't know. I just that
- 54:15Speaker 1: I did notice that A lot John, a lot of
- 54:17Speaker 1: people say, continue, man, continue, Yeah, it out.
- 54:20Speaker 2: It's like, what's more to clear?
- 54:23Speaker 1: I couldn't. I couldn't believe.
- 54:24Speaker 5: No, I couldn't believe more people weren't saying that. I mean, look,
- 54:31Speaker 5: it's and that's not a bad thing for the sport.
- 54:33Speaker 5: Let the guy get out with his faculties intact at
- 54:36Speaker 5: thirty eight, off off a good performance with a lot
- 54:40Speaker 5: of respect, a lot of money, a family, and you know,
- 54:44Speaker 5: just right off into the sun, right off into the sunset.
- 54:48Speaker 5: One thing I'm going to say with a Parker fight,
- 54:49Speaker 5: because nobody's gonna sell me that Parker is that good?
- 54:53Speaker 5: If Usik were to fight him next, I mean, and
- 54:58Speaker 5: Usik would lose. Usick have to me, Usik would have
- 55:01Speaker 5: to fall fall off a cliff to so I don't
- 55:06Speaker 5: need to say. That's one time I'm gonna agree with Turkey.
- 55:08Speaker 5: I don't want a trauma. But but I actually think
- 55:12Speaker 5: Turkey was right, Like I don't need I don't want Usak, Parker,
- 55:16Speaker 5: I don't. I don't like if if Usik loses, it's
- 55:19Speaker 5: going to be because he's got nothing left all of
- 55:21Speaker 5: a sudden.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Marker is better for at some point right.
- 55:24Speaker 5: Right now, like the one guy who has a style matchup.
- 55:27Speaker 5: I'm not saying he would beat him, but knowledgeable people
- 55:30Speaker 5: were saying that, like, if you want to really to me,
- 55:33Speaker 5: make it like a quote unquote good fight. I think
- 55:35Speaker 5: Usak should retire. But if he doesn't, I mean, Caviel
- 55:38Speaker 5: arguably has the best style matchup to threaten the guy
- 55:42Speaker 5: because he can box a little bit, he goes to
- 55:45Speaker 5: the body, ferocious body attack, and he's not afraid to
- 55:51Speaker 5: be aggressive. That would be the one fight that at
- 55:55Speaker 5: least you could maybe say, maybe this will be interesting.
- 55:58Speaker 5: But Parker, I'm with Turkey on that one. I mean,
- 56:01Speaker 5: I don't I don't.
- 56:02Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I wouldn't.
- 56:04Speaker 5: I wouldn't pay big money to make that fight.
- 56:07Speaker 2: No, you get have the belt, you know.
- 56:11Speaker 5: Fine, that's why I always look at that, right, let
- 56:13Speaker 5: him have it.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and Cabell every every stage so far, you know,
- 56:17Speaker 1: he's he's got every match up, he's shown like, all right,
- 56:22Speaker 1: this dude is legit.
- 56:23Speaker 2: He seems pretty legit.
- 56:25Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean, if if that's the fight, yeah,
- 56:27Speaker 1: you're right, if they I don't want to see a
- 56:29Speaker 1: third fight with now, I don't. I don't want that
- 56:32Speaker 1: a you know, you've already done that. We've already been
- 56:35Speaker 1: down that line. So yeah, if it is Kabel, I
- 56:39Speaker 1: wouldn't complain about it. That's for sure. This moment for Kabel.
- 56:43Speaker 5: And since I was saying it's worth mentioning Jake Paul
- 56:46Speaker 5: did get face to face with him. Yeah, I'm not
- 56:49Speaker 5: saying it was. It was gonna be a good sell
- 56:52Speaker 5: boxing wise anyway, but Usik was so dominant against Dubois,
- 56:57Speaker 5: you know, it makes Jake Paul like, it makes it
- 56:59Speaker 5: a little harder sell, you know, like even though nobody
- 57:05Speaker 5: in the right mind would be expecting Jake Paul to
- 57:07Speaker 5: win a fan base that doesn't know boxing. But still
- 57:10Speaker 5: with Who's that coming off such a dominant performance, it's
- 57:14Speaker 5: a little you know, like in other words, if Who's
- 57:17Speaker 5: struggled or something like that, and then hey, Jake Paul
- 57:20Speaker 5: is gonna get a fight for the heavyweight title, right
- 57:24Speaker 5: But you know, after that fight, even Jake Paul was
- 57:26Speaker 5: talking about an m M A fight and nonsense like that, that.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Would be a lot of balls if he stepped up
- 57:32Speaker 1: against I mean, I know it's a lot of money,
- 57:34Speaker 1: but still you're gonna get knocked out, you know, so
- 57:38Speaker 1: that that would be a lot of balls.
- 57:39Speaker 5: But yeah, that's obviously could just take a lot of
- 57:41Speaker 5: money get knocked out. He fought for the heavyweight title. Yeah,
- 57:45Speaker 5: but you know who's you know, I mean, that would
- 57:49Speaker 5: be a good cash out, a safe.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Cash out for Yeah, yeah, that'd be fine with me, man,
- 57:55Speaker 1: that'd be That's okay with me.
- 57:57Speaker 2: But yeah, I just I just kind of.
- 58:00Speaker 1: Wish we'd get back to appreciating the fighter right now.
- 58:04Speaker 2: Don't worry about where you rank him.
- 58:06Speaker 1: Just appreciate what we got because you know, he's gonna
- 58:08Speaker 1: be gone here soon with usk, you know, Yeah.
- 58:11Speaker 5: And he's you know, he's become lineal champ. I mean,
- 58:14Speaker 5: he didn't need to be bog In for that, but
- 58:16Speaker 5: that's a defense historically, and that's a good thing. That's
- 58:19Speaker 5: what I mean. Like to me, he has like done
- 58:22Speaker 5: at all. I mean, he ended up becoming a lineal.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Champ in a short amount of time for the fights
- 58:26Speaker 1: number you know.
- 58:27Speaker 5: Right, two defenses of the lineal title.
- 58:31Speaker 1: But you have seven or six seven heavyweight fights something
- 58:34Speaker 1: like that.
- 58:35Speaker 5: Yeah, sounds about right somewhere in there.
- 58:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I just he's just been a blast. He's
- 58:43Speaker 1: a funny guy too out of the ring. It's just
- 58:47Speaker 1: every step I just just appreciate seeing him.
- 58:51Speaker 2: And what he's done.
- 58:52Speaker 1: It's it's been great. And that's what I'm more worry
- 58:55Speaker 1: about than you know, where you got him on your
- 58:59Speaker 1: on your list, especially if it's ridiculous, and you know,
- 59:03Speaker 1: obviously the further you go back, the smaller the heavyweights were.
- 59:08Speaker 1: So he would have an up at that point. That's
- 59:10Speaker 1: fair because then he'd be more, it'd be more, you know,
- 59:13Speaker 1: but you said some other things. Yeah, true, but there
- 59:16Speaker 1: are some style matchups that all of a sudden don't
- 59:19Speaker 1: exist right now. Guys don't like who can come forward
- 59:23Speaker 1: like Joe Frasier right now the last few years.
- 59:26Speaker 5: No last you go back for me. That's what I've
- 59:29Speaker 5: been saying that like twenty twenty five years. And I'm
- 59:33Speaker 5: not even blaming the fighters that nobody wants to take
- 59:36Speaker 5: that damage, right yeah, And like you know, like what
- 59:40Speaker 5: can you say? You know, I mean, you can't really
- 59:42Speaker 5: know what we know about headed injuries even more now
- 59:45Speaker 5: and like but the fact remains right. But but but
- 59:49Speaker 5: he was fighting like that, you know, so he did
- 59:51Speaker 5: that like right exactly, Like now, just nobody's even willing
- 59:54Speaker 5: to fight like that, right, So that's a different that's
- 59:57Speaker 5: something new that has not face.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: And plenty of people thought AJ had him in trouble.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: You know, there are some moments where you thought, I
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: don't know, I just it's difficult to say this.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: You know, this era of that era.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: I do think that if it's a deep era, then
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: you're gonna get more credit obviously, you know. And you know,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: although we've commented that this has been an entertaining era
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: and it was better than the vlad era because you
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: had more people and then we had some great fights
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: and upsets and this and that, and even you know,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: as he was making his way to heavyweight. You know,
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: not many people thought he was gonna go all the way.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: So it's just been entertaining. It's not to take anything
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: away from you know, Wilder and Fury and all these guys,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: but you know, none of them are in the top
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: five or top two or top three. But who gives
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: a shit, you know, it's it's just a fun era.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: And we finally got some stuff going on with the
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: heavyweight division, and it was fun. We got we got
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: a lot of great fights or at least solid matchups
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: or whatever.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: So anyway back to.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: So Fandora, I mean, you know, I think that he
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: might be able to beat everybody's division. I could also
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: see him beating someone in the you know, within the
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: fight and getting stopped or whatever. That's just him. I
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: wouldn't take away from him. But one fifty four to
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: me is up for graps kind of like it's been
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: besides when Mel had it, but still he had to
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: grind his way to keep it and like Castano fight,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: the first fight and all that, and it does seem
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: like Mel's going to return this year. We'll see how,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: you know, Dremal goes there. But I just one fifty four,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: it's just it's wide open. Let just hope they can
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: make the fights. You know.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: That's kind of the key there.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: And then you know, I was I was okay with
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: the draw with Patio and Barrows because neither guy really
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: did enough to be like, yes, I want if I
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: had to choose, I would choose pak Yall. But honestly
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I was okay with it because pak Yall looked good early,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: then didn't do much, then he closed pretty well. Barrios,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: you know, looked good when he threw his jab on
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: the right hand and then he let off the gas,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: and I did think what his trainer was saying is
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: you're you're respecting him too much, Like what are you doing?
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: I like the corner work was great in that he's like, hey,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: he's not the referee in there, He's not this, He's
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: not that. He's going down the list of like, hey, dude,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: you gotta win this fight here, And I gotta say,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: pak Yow. You know, the ugist style in what he
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: can do to somebody compared to Barrios, you can't really,
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: you know, compare the two. Obviously, so Ugas was able
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: to stay on game plan and make him look his age.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Although Manny of course is gonna look his age because
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: he's old for a fighter anyway, I don't want to
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: make us seem too old. But you know, like he
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: actually bouncing around. He actually looked better than I thought
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: he would. But you gotta keep you know, I gotta
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: give him credit for that. He did look better and
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: I can see that he's going to continue now. But overall,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: what what are your thoughts out of this? Should they
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: you know, cash Pacio out and give him a big fight,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: or like, where we are you at with this?
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: Because obviously he's gonna keep fighting. Yeah, I mean he look,
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: Pacio's gotta need money. I mean, let's let's really say,
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: you know, it's not it's not discussed enough like this guy,
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: this guy's gotta need money because.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I'll discussed enough because he's a nice guy. John right,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: exactly exactly. They'd be honest ass about it, exactly because
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: you know, then his management saying afterward and money wise,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I do get it.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: They're they're like, nobody wants to see this Barrios fight again,
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: which nobody does. We're gonna fight Tanker, yeah out, you know,
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: those those probably will sell pretty good. That was what
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: fan base he's got left I mean in the context
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: of today's boxing, because of course there's no numbers on this.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and though they were round, he still, man, he
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: brings them up that way. I'll give him that.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: But even Pakia's management was implying that it wasn't a seller.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Oh no, no, Yeah, there were places, you know, and
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: then they had a big ticket drop and all that.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: But the people that were in the building.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: Still were like, that's my guy, you know, and he's
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: just that type of fighter, you know. Oh definitely. But yeah,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: even if there's a thousand people, those thousand people are
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: gonna make a lot of noise, you know. Yeah.
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: But I was like with you, I mean consensus, and
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: I think consensus probably right, doesn't mean I agree with
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: them all the time, but like Weissfeld kind of consensus,
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: considered the best, most reliable judge. He had a draw.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's what I look at too.
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: I mean, a lot of people screaming Pakia won the fight,
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: but like even them in a couple of days afterward,
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: it's crazy, as a lot of them were. It didn't
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: even it seemed like there weren't like a lot of
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: cries or robbery. After a couple of days went by
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: you know, so that's kind of like what you're saying
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: with the draw. So I look at the same way,
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: like could you've given it to package You could have.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: I kind of had to come with this analysis a
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: bit like the Ustik daboag just in a certain way
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: where like like you said, you know, pakiaw for a
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: forty six year old guy, I mean he he brought
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: a little more than you thought, just bouncing around, and
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: he's able to keep his volume up higher than somebody
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: his age normally would.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: But still in like a hundred punches, you know, yeah.
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: The only landed like what eighteen percent or something like that.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: But you know, Pakiyaw was bs and the judges too
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: with the dancing around on a bit like you know,
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: a lot of it was showing a sense of yes,
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: I mean you know, bounce, bouncing around and then moving
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: his hands. I mean yeah, yeah, like that's where I
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: was really And then Barrios probably I am just gonna
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: say this because I think it's true. You know, you
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: get with the analysis like I was talking about with Dubai,
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: I think, well you got to go with Barrios the fights,
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: the aberration, because let's look at his whole outside of
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: the you know, fight, this dude has not this dude
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: hasn't had to I mean, what are the good performances,
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: you know, so I don't care where he's ranking. Everything's
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: so watered down today's boxing with with the weight classes
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: and everything. You know, is this guy, this guy, you know,
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: the number three welter weight in the world or whatever.
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: I mean, you know, like I mean by default.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: But it's like, come on, you know.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Just like, yeah, that's what it is. By default.
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: It's by default. So he ended up he ended up
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: being as bad as his worst. Detractors said, I would
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: say that that's so true. And Pakia was able to
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: do a little more dance and I thought he might
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: be able to move the hands. But where I was
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: really disappointed in Barrio was, you know, post fight, because
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: I think you can say that's even not being in
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: there when the guy's forty six and even as of
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: now we speak, he hasn't want to fight in six years. Yeah,
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: Barrios is saying, well, Pacio could still crack. I had
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: to be careful to me. Come on, man, yeah, come
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: on right, come on, like really, you know.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: All he had to do is throw his hands a
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: little more he would have won the fight cleanly, right,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: I mean, come on, it's pretty seem pretty basic, you know.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: Yeah, so I don't want to see this again. Barrios
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: is going nowhere. We know that too, Like, like Barrios
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: is going nowhere. I mean, like the type fight he
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: had with.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: Abble, Yeah, at the last performances.
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: Like that's his level. I mean, that is his like level,
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: you know. I mean, because Ramos has talent, but but
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: he just doesn't throw enough. I mean, if that dude,
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: he's he's been like that his whole career, you know,
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: if he was ever consistent like throwing right, like, he
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: can hurt you and there's some talent there, but he's not.
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: We've seen him a million times.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: He's just not.
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: But you know, Barrios, you know, he barely survived.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: That, just barely, I mean just by the skin of
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: his teeth, you know.
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: Yeah, so he kind of shows you where he's at.
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: I mean, you guys fight with him. I think with Joshua,
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: we have to start looking like, excuse me. With Dubai,
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: the Joshua fight might have been a bit of an
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: aberration just because they're both so flawed, and with Barrios
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: that was my conclusion from that same weekend, like we
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: gotta then recalibrate and say, look theose the guys fights,
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: kind of the aberration because you look at his whole
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: career outside of that, and you kind of really see.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: What he is. Yeah, I agree, And someone's got to
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: take the damn belt from him. Yeah, just get just
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: get it, get the bellet like it's it's he's not
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: a deserved belt hoolder.
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: No, that's the problem with alphabet belts, like right, you know,
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: like like and this is where it gets absurd because
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: and this this I'm gonna point this out because this
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: is the problem with boxing. But as it stands now,
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: one of the major problems. Ye, let's go back a
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: month ago when Boots Ennis was not talking about moving
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: up to one fifty four. I mean, you talk about
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: putting many, a forty six year old Many Pakia in
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: with Brian Norman or Boots Ennis, and I mean, you know,
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: you get arrested for murder. I mean, like, so, so
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: what are we talking about here? Fans like, oh, he
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: moved his hands and danced against Barrios. Yeah, but but
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: if he would have fought Norman or Ennis, yeah, I
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: mean you'd be feared for the guy's safety.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: Yeah, And I didn't see.
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: Any of that. I didn't see any of that perspective
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: like transnational I did. I did speak out against this,
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: like they put in enter him at four, and I'm like,
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: if the guy enters based on what he's done in
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: the past, okay, I'm okay with him entering, but but
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: only entering, like you know ten or something, guy hasn't
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: want to fight for six years.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean these.
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: Are people, you know, this is like, you know, people
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: who really follow this stuff, but getting caught up like
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: how's he, how's he?
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: How's he number four? Pakia?
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: I mean, how's he? We Yeah, I mean I mean, look,
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: even though you know he had some injuries and stuff,
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: like Stanionis gets dominated by Boots Ennis.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: But but he's in with Boots. He's in with Boots Ennis.
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, right, like that to me, that's the point, Like,
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: you know, when he's fighting, he's fighting Boots, He's fighting
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: Boots Ennis, right, I mean, Patio is fighting Barrios. I know,
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: Pakias forty six, Yeah, you know, get a feel good
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: moment that he survived it and people thought he won
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: the fight. But let's let's keep respective. I mean, I'll
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: say this, Tank's got a lot of problem right now
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: with a bad performance and legal problems. But I'm gonna
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: feel comfortable saying this one. Even with all that he
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: gets in there with Tank, he's getting annihilated. I don't
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: care if I don't care if they fight at welterweight.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: In his style sets up perfect for tayk Come on it, buddy,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: come on in, do that around me.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it's true, right, that's one of those tanks not
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: going to be doing any reaching up for him or
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: anything like that.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: I mean, you know, it's like a perfect matchup.
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: And when he gets to detonate right at that level
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: like that, like I talk about Cruise, you see the difference,
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: but tanks, it's very short for you know as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah, short,
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: That's what I mean. You what tank unload on somebody
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: who's right there on that level?
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: One always takes risks, you know right now, because you're right,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: he was sloppy. He wasn't accurate, which he shouldn't be
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: at this point four years, but you could see he
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: was missing a lot of shots. Like you said, the
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: crowd still was all loud when he but like that
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: didn't even land you know, so comp box again.
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: I like it as a tool, not like necessarily to fight.
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: And they had both of them for abysmal punches landed rate.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Yes, like both both. I mean that's I mean, that's pathetic.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: That's bad. That's it's really bad. That's difficult to do.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: I rarely see that, right if you see that it's
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: a one side. One fighter has that seventeen percent, the
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: other one has like a forty two or something, you
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: know what I mean, you don't normally see both on
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: their twenty percent.
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: I mean that was good for Pakia's health under the circumstances.
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: I mean, I don't want they got to get hurt.
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: But he's a four look even as a boxing fan.
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: In his story, he's a forty six year old guy.
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: He shouldn't. He really shouldn't be out there.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: No, just and like you said, a lot of people
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: don't want to say it, but it is money. There's
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: just no other reason otherwise. He just want to do
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: this one to feel good about it and then move
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: on right in case. You know, he said it before
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: the fight that he's going to continue, and clearly it's
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: you know, it is actually sad uh, you know, but
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: it is what it is. I did think Joet Gonzalez
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: probably won that fight against Figueroa. I thought he landed
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: the cleaner meaningful shots. Now Figureo, to his credit, did
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: come on. But you know, is he is he just
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: shot worn? Is he in between styles? Because when he
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: you know, at times he looked more like his brother
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: when he had his head rested and just swing it
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: like dude, what are you doing? Like I smothering his
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: own work. He looked like Omar Figaroa, not Brandon Figueroa.
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: Now I think I think he's on the down side
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: because he's got looked.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: He looked terrible in the Fulton.
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: Rematch, really really really bad. And I thought he won
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: the first fight, you know, and he looked terrible in
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: this when he and you know, Gonzales is basically a
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: glorified journey man. He comes to fight. Yeah, but I
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: think figure Row is on the down. He fought with
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: that high, real high contact style. Yeah, some people said
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: he had to. I don't think he did have to.
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: I actually do think with his attributes. I'm in the
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: camp and I've seen him from very early on in
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: his career, when he was one of the PBC guys
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: that you know, in the early network shows, they would
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: put him on the underground stuff. I mean, you know,
- 1:14:28Speaker 5: he's a bantamweight and stuff, but he never wanted to
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: fight using the physical attributes. He wanted to get his
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: head on you and you know, throw a lot of
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: punches and brawl and he's always been an entertaining guy
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: to watch. But I think that's caught up to him now.
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: It's been too high contact for too long, and I
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: think he's on the down side. I just think he's
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: going to be an easy mark for somebody at this point.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: You know, you could argue he.
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: Did enough to pull it out, but you know, Gonzalez
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: even always come in to fight and he's had someone's
- 1:14:58Speaker 5: where he's been competitive, but you know, that's a you
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: should be just beating.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Clearly, he shouldn't look at good because sometimes on those counters,
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: I was like, WHOA Joette is really lighting his ass up,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: you know, and then that's not even right the way
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: you fight. He actually said that, you know, hey, we're
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: gonna it's like a measuring stick of where figure O
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: is at.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: If he has problems with him, there's a problem. Well,
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: there's a problem.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: There's a problem.
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he's I'm going to say, I think
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: he's on.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: The down side. Yeah, yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: It'd be nice if Gary Russell Jr. Could get a
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: good fight here, because you know, he can't have that
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: many more fights left in him. Onto this wenkend Xander
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Zaiez just one sided Garcia. Carrington one sided his opponent.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: What do you make of it? John?
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: That was kind of a microcosm of why this top
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: ranked deal didn't work. I mean, and look, I've said
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: in recent years down the stretch of it, and he
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: you know, and really want one guy's continued to stand
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: at the others not as much like I said for
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: them down the stretch when they were fading. Like best
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: case scenario at this point is just just give all
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: you got with Mason, Keyshawn Davis, and Carrington.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: You know, Carrington's performances have kind of dropped off some.
- 1:16:24Speaker 5: He's old for the weight, you know, for where he
- 1:16:27Speaker 5: for where he is at that rate, by the way,
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: twenty eight years old.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: Keyshawn Davis kind of you know, got off track recently.
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: You know, he said he has some good performances and
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: something weren't as good. You know, Mason has continued to entertain,
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: but like, you know, you look like the Carrington opponent
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: was not that good. He came to fight maybe more
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: than we would have expected in a good way, but.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: As overhand rights were landing pretty good.
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: He was trying. But but like I thought, Tim Bradley
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: had a good fair job with the commentary in some
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: way he was saying that what he was saying in
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: that one, you know, because he's been doing the top
- 1:17:07Speaker 5: rank and he fought for top rank. But he's saying like, look,
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: listen to the fans. You know, the fans are not
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: in I mean, but but Bradley's making fair points. I mean, yeah,
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: the fans are not entertained. I mean they're not.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: They didn't have a lot of power either, but he
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: sure tried to wear you down, right, He would have.
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: He would get into some good fights anyway, even though
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: he didn't have power, you know, most famously against Pravodnikov.
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: But but you know, like so Karen can like and
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: that that's when then I start thinking like this, like
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: I mean, you know, like he Carrington wasn't fighting like
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: a prime Marco Antonio Barrera or Eric Morales, and that's
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: where I start having problems with these guys, Like you know,
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: then then the fight itself, like if Karen Can's fighting
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: that way and maybe he's just trying to get a win,
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: keeps the fans entertained enough the significance. But like when
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: you're fighting the unknown guy who's trying harder than maybe
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: we expected, but still isn't that talented. It's like Bradley
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: was saying, I mean, the fans are not entertained. You know,
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: you got to you gotta do something, you got to
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: do something more. You're you've got the ESPN exposure, right,
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: and just just that's kind of not getting the assignment.
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: I mean, And but that's also the problem. Like look,
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: people talk about like well we want to see and
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: there have been some great fights and the great fights
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: of all time. I mean this was featherweight. You maybe
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: get that more when you go below featherweight. But still again,
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: I like I always say, UFC doesn't even have those
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: classes for the men, Like you know, they had them
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: when it was WEC, but they didn't even bother emphasizing
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: that right with the uf FC when they folded that.
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: Like what I'm getting at is like it's featherweight, you know,
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: so that's like again promotion like well, you know when
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: you're putting you know, not that they're having them in
- 1:18:58Speaker 5: great fights we could come up with, but when you
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: start getting lower, especially below featherweight, but you know there,
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: there's more chance of that happening where the power's not there.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: So yeah, you're right, it's it's probably gonna play out
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: that way a lot of times than if you can't
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: do it there, you know, right, And I mentioned this
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: right right, when you're getting on it's one thing to
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: do that ninety seconds left of a fight that you
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: have won. You know, that's different. A lot of people
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: hate that. I don't. That's fine, but it seemed like
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: he was on cruise control for quite a while, you know, right,
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: And there's.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: A difference there.
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: Yeah, And where I was thinking, like it frustrates for
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: me with the top rank type deal, like then we
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: sat through this, then they're talking about them, Oh well
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: maybe we'll have him fight Espinosa. You know, I've been
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: saying this with guys like Carrington who look good, Mason,
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: like like the time is now like like like not
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: a top rank deals gone right, so like well, sorry, guys,
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: too late, you know what I mean, Like you know,
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: and you know, like look, Leo pulled the upset and
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: ended up getting a belt. You know, when he knocked
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: out Lopez with that big shot, I was entertaining. But
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: like le I'm gonna point that out of point out
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: at the time, like Leo was a guy who used
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: to you know, he'd been on PBC cards before. He
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: was just kind of there as an opponent like in
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: an alphabet belt fight, and he pulls the upset. But
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: like that is my point, Like you weren't building up
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: Leo or anything. He he just got that whin Like
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: you know, That's where I was saying, like move up
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: in a way, or you know, have Carrington. Sure Carrington
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: might lose, but he might not lose. He might knock
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: he might step up and knock the guy out. Like
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: these are the miss kind of opportunities, you know, and
- 1:20:46Speaker 5: then we get this these kind of fights. And it
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: was the same really for me. Zia's in the main
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: event was basically like same analysis. I mean, you know
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: the Garcia he got the one split decision upset over Conwell,
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: he done nothing you know outside of that. But then
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: you know, to me, I just got to say it
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: when I'm watching these, like Gauzaias has really leveled off
- 1:21:08Speaker 5: to me, like, you know, Zaias is fighting the guy
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: like he's fighting John the Beast Mugabi or something. Yeah yeah,
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: and like and that that that this was a perfect
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: example of the alphabet cover type stuff, which to me
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: is ruining the sport. So like, it's not that great
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: of a fight, so top rank is going to trot
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: out the reliable wb O belt like they always do,
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: and then that they're they're gonna sell it.
- 1:21:34Speaker 7: Oh, he's a world champion, he's the youngest Puerto Rican
- 1:21:37Speaker 7: world champion and all this, all this stuff for a
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: fight that's not we knew it wasn't going to be
- 1:21:43Speaker 7: that good and wasn't that good, and then they think
- 1:21:46Speaker 7: they're gonna cover it with alphabet stuff and make it
- 1:21:49Speaker 7: smell good, you know, Like like Zaias is leveled off.
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: I mean, you know he's young, but he's had enough fights.
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: I don't think it's that anymore. Like you know, yeah,
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: you're right, enough fights, he's had enough fight. He's way
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: leveled off. It's been going on for a while. He's
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: not gonna he's not gonna do good when he fights
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: a really tough opponent. You can already see that. I
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: feel comfortable saying that guys just leveled off. He's you know, he's.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: Not fifty four, Like, there's no there's not a tome
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: like if you look at the top five six guys,
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: it's gonna be it's gonna be tough to beat them.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: You know, you gotta, you gotta it's you know, it's
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: I have a feeling that it'd be kind of a
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: mixed match, assuming Crawford didn't come back to the division, right.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: I just think that that that guy can beat these two,
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: but then he get beat by that. Then you know, Virgil,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: you'd like to think that he could beat everybody, but
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: you know, he we still need to see it with him,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: and we have seen him in brawls where you're like, man,
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: if you fought that way with him, you get you know,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: you'd lose the fight.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: I just goes back to let's hope these damn fights happened,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: because it's the thing about fifty four. Most of it
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: was at the PBC prior, so you knew the fights
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: were going to happen. That was one of the most
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: successful that, right, you'd probably say that was their most
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: successful division because of how long it went and changing
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: of titles and great fights and upsets and you know
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: that type of thing. And they did let it organically
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: play out, you know, and oh that happened. Okay, let's
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: let's match up against him then, you know, and and
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: they gave it felt like even if you're the B side,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: you had a fair shot. But you know, speaking of
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: the top rank, you know, with Bob, God bless him, right,
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: I hope to be even shit even that age. You know,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: I mean, this this guy, it's phenomenal. How with it
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: he is? He is? I mean is it's it's phenomenal.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: And he's still good for a couple of great lines.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: And is Bob, you know the old I was lying yesterday.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Today I'm telling the truth. You know, you don't know
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: what to believe with Bob. You just don't when it
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: comes to certain things. Not discrediting him or anything like that.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: But you know, he says that he's got two to
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: three deals, it's just a matter of finishing the negotiations.
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: He says, one is a large streaming service. But then
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: he also says, you know, he's got some sort of
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: linear television, which it seems like, well you're on that.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: You know then that had been good to keep that.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: But you know whatever, you hope that there's h that
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: that's true. We'll see. Obviously they don't have anything scheduled.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: But if it's it's a matter of a month or
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: something and there's an announcement, okay, if it gets to
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: a few months, you start to go, I don't know
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: his own is there waiting for it. But other than that,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: it's like where you at with this? Where you at
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: with this? Because rumors?
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: But I I think Aaron is smart enough to know
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: just I mean, I'm not saying he might not take
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: it if that's all he's got, but he knows to
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: the zone can't do anything for his product. I think
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: he aar smart enough to know that. Like he's still sharp,
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: he follows things. He knows what's going on, you know,
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: the ideals like see PBC. It just hasn't come to
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: fruition like you'd like to see it. Like, I mean,
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: Amazon's got the reach. If the cards would just be
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: on regular Amazon.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: I mean.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: It's activated.
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: I mean now that streamings, you know, I've shifted myself.
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: You have to look at what has happened. I mean,
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: now that as you and I both saw, and you know,
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: it's official for the first time in history streamings past broadcast.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: It's more than fifty percent now.
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: So now now to me, you just do have to
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: just like Netflix, and that that makes Netflix and Amazon
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: the top players, and stats are going to back that
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: up too. So you know, we've got Crawford l on Netflix,
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: and we've got PBC with an Amazon deal that has
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: barely been on a regular Amazon, which has been the problem.
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: But like if that were to shift, if fights from
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: PBC or Top Rank would start getting on regular Amazon,
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: that would help the sport. Or if Netflix took a
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: further step and started putting any of these entities fights
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: on regular Netflix. That's in this era we're entering what
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: the sport needs. I mean, nobody's going to see him
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: on his own, nobody's seeing these pay per views. I
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: mean we we both said that, and the evidence is
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: all there. I mean, even even turkeys. We've been encouraging it.
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: A bail on it, he's talking about he's talking about.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: He's trying to pull the old Oakie dog on us. Yeah,
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: and a lot of people don't know that term but
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: the old oak, the bait and switch. Uh, well, we're
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: going to get into that now. There was a report
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: John about Netflix getting into it. Now if the source
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: is legit, I don't know one if it is or not,
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: But there was a report out there that said they
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: comboed PBC in Jake Paul and it was Netflix. It
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: was sport business. Okay, So I'm not gonna sit there
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: and say it's the top of the line and they're
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: always right and all that, but it was a report.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: Streaming service Netflix is reportedly seeking further expand its entry
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: into live sports by targeting the PBC and Jake Paul
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: and obviously his promotion, okay. And also I remember sometime
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three Netflix weighing up moving or Wang
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: weighing up move for live boxing rights, like they're they're
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: getting to it. And then also a sports there was
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: the This was in July eighteenth, twenty twenty five.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: Same source.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: Netflix claims sports Live strategy unchanged. We're still we're still
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: gonna do it. And obviously, uh, Amazon Prime just as
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: the NBA now they have Thursday in the NFL among others.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: Netflix has been one off so far, but it does
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: sound like, you know, maybe they want to get involved. Obviously,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: you throw top rank, if you could somehow throw in
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: a perfect world PBC top rank at Jake Paul, throw
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: them on Netflix, get them a deal. Now we're now
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: we're cooking. That's kind of becoming that's become my mediot.
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: That's kind of become my main hope now because Netflix
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: is getting more NFL this year. One thing, that one
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: thing that you know, it was good that I read it.
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: That was that New York Times article bout a year ago.
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: I mentioned to you a few times where they just
- 1:28:50Speaker 5: talked to all the top streaming people and felt like
- 1:28:53Speaker 5: it was just going to come down to Netflix, Amazon
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: and then one other pull, one other player that we
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: would see. But I think we're that's the direction I see.
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: So But but in that article, what what you know,
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: the Netflix had had said and they you know a
- 1:29:13Speaker 5: lot of times it's bs, but not with them, it
- 1:29:15Speaker 5: doesn't seem to be. They seem to me to be
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: following through on it, whether it be the movies, the sports,
- 1:29:19Speaker 5: whatever the case may be. Your philosophy is, and this
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: is where it would be a hope for boxing. Like
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: whatever they feel like their subscriber wants to see and
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: adds value to their service. They will break out, break
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: the bank, break the patient with the bank out right,
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: they'll wait though, right.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: They showed profit, and they're like, all right, now, let's
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: linger here a second and make sure we make.
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: The right move.
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: And what they've said is if they just evaluated with
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: their standards and they're like, this is not this doesn't
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: add enough for our subscribers, like that, they're not going
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: to buy it. But like so like you know, they're there,
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: this looks like we'll get you know, they've had a few.
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: Now we're getting Canelo Crawford. So that's where that helps
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: with like getting away from this pay per view because
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: the implication I get from them is that like and
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: you know, look they're adding NFL when you know how
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: much that costs.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: So it's kind of like, if.
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: We feel our subscribers really want this, you know, we're
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: just gonna pay it and put it on you know,
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: you get it for your.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Monthly, for your book. If it's not overpays, boxing is
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: relatively affordable, right, if it's not some kind of crazy overpay.
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: Yeah, if they give them, you know, good fights for
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: what they're going to pay. And that's where boxing in
- 1:30:41Speaker 5: recent years has had more problem than ever. Yes, like
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: if they just stick to quality control themselves and say
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: like okay, yeah you're willing to pay us, we're going
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: to give you a good one here. That's that's where
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: boxing is had a problem. But you know that because
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: it's got the reach and with their with their philosophy,
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: like in other words, it seems that pay per views
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: got nothing to do with their philosophy, right, So that
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: would be what box it needs.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: You'd have to reach.
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: They've got the money, like you said, I mean you
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: I was reading their money figures last week too, like
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: their official financials. I mean, they've got an insane amount
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: of money, an insane amount of money right now we're
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: talking about the Saudis. Of course the Saudis do too,
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: but like Netflix has got it for a company. Netflix
- 1:31:28Speaker 5: has got it insane about a buddy right now. And
- 1:31:31Speaker 5: that's how good. That's how good they've been doing so
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: you know now, And.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: It was a cut throat to get here.
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: It was cutthroat business.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: You know, a lot of people losing money on streaming.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: The happy Gilmore too was a disappointment. I gotta say
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: that was heavy. Yeah, yeah, can't be heavy. Can't be
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: you overdose heard. I was like, all right, we got it, Yeah,
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: we got it right, can't be I mean to like it.
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: I wanted to like it real bad because and I'm like, man,
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: you know, I tried to. I'm like, I'll give it
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: the thumbs up barely.
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: But you know, just probably some middle schoolers that love it, though, John, I.
- 1:32:13Speaker 5: Saw people give it. I saw people give it five stars.
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: And what were you guys watching, man? And I could
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: tell they watched it too. But yeah, anyway, I'm diverting,
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: But just point of that, that was one of their
- 1:32:26Speaker 5: big events. So they you know, they whatever, they whatever,
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: they paid paid to make that.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: But well, if you could just get those qualities showtime
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: triple Adders on Netflix or Amazon and you know, a
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: two and a half hour window live archive after just
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: get back to the basics, step back to the you know, like,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: if we could get that, I guarantee we could go
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: after some young people because that ship was really good,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: really entertaining, really solid fights, and uh we had that
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: run where there wasn't a lot of pay per views,
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: you know, so and it does feel like, uh, that
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: side of it. The PBC and Top Rank have their
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: financials as far as what they pay to fighters, it
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: seems like it's under control. So you know, that's probably
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: your best bet because then you know, then you could
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: be like, hey, if you give me this amount of money,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: I can make this, you know, and instead of like
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: these crazy overpays.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: So we'll see you know that that and you.
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: Could know if like we keep saying, at least I
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: keep saying it, even if it's a cash out. But
- 1:33:43Speaker 5: that would be perfect for Netflix too, because he's got
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: his fan base. And know if you had Jake Paul
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: fight a name and it was on Netflix, even if
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: he gets knocked out in the first round, I mean
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: that would that would still be good for moving forward boss.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: And as far as like a new deal, I do
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: think that, uh, the PBC, the fact that Canelo took
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: the four fight deal that hurts them. The fact that
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: Spence hasn't gotten back in the ring that hurts them.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: You know, those are guys that could sell tickets and
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: and move and draw attention, you know. So and obviously
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: if you had those two and then you still have
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: Benavize's and Dravante, well then all of a sudden you
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: can really go get a deal probably, you know, especially
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: if that's on free subscribers. You know, those they're gonna
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: they draw, they would draw numbers. But you know, with Benevitez,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: luckily it's just a one off with the Sadi's on
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: this next one. But you know, with Jervonte and Benavitez,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: without Canelo and Spence and all that, you know, I
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: guess that would be.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: Harder to get a deal.
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: You know, maybe throwing in a manny for a free
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: fight for two fights, maybe that would be part of
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: the deal, you know, all that type of stuff. That's
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: you got to think of it that way. Maybe Many
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: gets two more fights, but then the undercard is really
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: good and then they build off of that like they
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: did with the Jake Paul thing. And you know, but
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: I don't know, you know that.
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: Well, that's probably what you said there. I have a
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: feeling might be PBC's survival strategy because I think where
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: they're at now and this is just time which happens
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: to everybody. Yes, they got their thing going in twenty fifteen,
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: and some of the people you've mentioned, they are the
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: names that that they were able to build up, especially
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: in the perspective of today's boxing. But the problem is
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: it's ten years now. Those guys are like Spence could
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: be done. Yeah, you know, Plants at the end of
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: the life. You know, you can go through those guys.
- 1:35:44Speaker 5: Plants probably how much Chloe brothers still have three tops,
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: you know, I did when I saw that happen. I
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: think that absolutely has a lot to do with why
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: Pakias back. Yeah, yeah, I mean, like you're I think
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: you're right, Like it would not be at all beyond PBC.
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: I think if they're if they can find at you know,
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: increase the Amazon deal or deal somewhere else, that they're
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: going to risk throwing Paco out at the top for
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: a fight or two, and he is just because of
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: the name and hope he doesn't get hurt, and try
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: to have some other people underneath, you know, maybe some
- 1:36:22Speaker 5: of their younger guys, like you know, Benavitez has still
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: got something left, like you said, and you know you
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: got Hayesus Ramos.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: Yeah, guys like that.
- 1:36:31Speaker 5: You know, maybe you know, they don't have as many
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: of them, but some of the younger guys they have
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: that you still have something left. Get some of those
- 1:36:39Speaker 5: guys out there try to keep.
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: That definitely hurt him this last year or two. Yeah,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: it had to have, you know, because when especially when
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: you lose Canelo, I mean they were they were making
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: profitable fights with him, you know, right, and imagine what Canelo. Well,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: we're gonna find out what Canelo well, somewhat find out
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: what Canelo draws here, you know, coming up in some
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: to the lowan Crawford.
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: So we'll see, we'll see how that goes.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: But it's I need to.
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: See real numbers. I mean that's too. Can appeals to
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: American sensibilities. Crawford's an American, so he appeals to US sensibilities,
- 1:37:16Speaker 5: Like I need to see their official numbers because Netflix
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: knows this, Like I need to see exactly how not worldwide.
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: I need to see how many people in the US
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: stream that fight. I mean, that's critical. It's it's to me,
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: it's like what.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: The whole thing's coming down to.
- 1:37:30Speaker 5: You can't save the sport, but there's just not there's
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: not enough hope with anything else. It's it's got to
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: be the first step to see to saving things, if
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: things are going to be saved. That's the way I
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: look at I do think it's that dramatic.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: Yeah, because like the numbers that we've seen, you almost
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: want to cut them in half just for theory. Okay,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: so in theory, if that was even half that number,
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: this is what it equates to, you know. Yeah, so we've.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: Been for a little bit here.
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: Is there.
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: Did you get a chance to.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: Read anything with the Revival ACTMAI revised. It's not wrong
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: to only like twenty one pages. So the pros, the
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: cons some of the stuff. We already talked about this
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: before in the past, knowing that you know, legislation is
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: on their side, as we talked.
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: About kind of predicted this one ever sent back to
- 1:38:28Speaker 5: the November election, was saying this could be coming, like.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: It or not. This is something you know they did
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: in New York as well, and that that's what you do.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: Uh, you know, you take advantage of what you got.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: So you know, some of it is raising the health
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: insurance from twenty to twenty five thousand. Some of it's
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: a minimum on a round, but if you talk, you know,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: if you look around, most peopeople are making more than
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: that minimum per round. The paramedics, how many paramedics are
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: on site. The UBO was an interesting way to do
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: it because on one hand you think, you know, that
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: does make sense, but then you got another let's say
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: three new UBOs come in, and then you have seven
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: belts then, you know, or seven different sanctioning things right
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: the clause where you have to have.
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: A training facility to be a you know, there's.
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: Certain things like so this is just exactly what you
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: guys are. You're gonna get a head start, you know obviously,
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: which hey, they're doing this to get it past they
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: got to bipartisan bill. That's what you do. You know,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: people can get mad or whatever they want. But as
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: far as we talked about, so who's going to rank?
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: Who's doing the rankings right? And also even some quotes
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: that I'll read a little later to talking about well,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: once we get a ranking, these top five will know
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: who's the best. Well, in this scenario, we wouldn't know
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: who's the best actually. So But also on the flip side, John,
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: you talked about this too, how there's no ags that
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: have actually enforced anything. No, the OLIAC has been helpful
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: for negotiations for budgets or partial budgets. To see it
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: gives you the power to litigate and sue, you know
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: more than you might probably had. It sounds like the
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: board at the ABC supported it, but the members of
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: the ABC that they're they were blind in this stuff.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: So you know, on one hand, what is the OLIAC doing. Besides,
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: like we've mentioned, helping the top tier fighters, which that's awesome,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: that is phenomenal, we can't can't act like that. Nobody
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: has to sell theirs self to six different promoters and
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: managers and get a cut five percent for the rest
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: of your career and all that stuff as much as
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: you used to be able to do, but in the
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: same breath hasn't helped the average boxer type thing. Well,
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: what are your thoughts overall with the Revival Act to
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: Save American Boxing?
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: I'll tell you what.
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: The two party system stuff, the names of the bills
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: always crack me up, and this it just leads right
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: in that we're gonna revive American boxing kind of No,
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: But what are your thoughts here?
- 1:41:34Speaker 5: My thoughts are.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Potentially what it could mean because it's gonna pass John,
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: It's gonna yeah, for the.
- 1:41:40Speaker 5: For the group, you know, I think I think I'll
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: probably morally on the same page with a lot of them,
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: So I sympathize with them. But but I think it's
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: a little misguided for some of the reasons you've talked about,
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: like they're they're they're having an outcry, Oh, how how
- 1:41:56Speaker 5: dare they take away the ALI Act. I don't want
- 1:42:00Speaker 5: want to see promoters like Dana White make more money
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: or get more than the fighters who take the risk,
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: and have those people paid less at the very top,
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: like you know, you and I have been saying.
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: I agree with that. I mean, I don't want payout
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: from UFC of the rep I don't.
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: I would rather have Canelo or any fighter taking the risk,
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: even if they're they're at the very top, getting the
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: money instead of Dana White or any other promoter. And
- 1:42:29Speaker 5: like I've said a lot too, don't we don't get
- 1:42:30Speaker 5: to see enough what they actually make. But with that
- 1:42:33Speaker 5: part understood understood, I got to disagree with these people
- 1:42:37Speaker 5: in a lot of ways where I don't think they're
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: being realistic. I think they are letting their moral bent
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: where they feel just like it's unjust for a Dana
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: White to get more money, which I agree with them,
- 1:42:51Speaker 5: but this is where they're clouded. The alphabet organizations are corrupt.
- 1:42:55Speaker 5: I mean, to me, the ALI Act it's really McCain
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: and you know Aaron did some of that stuff too,
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: but you know, they were really targeting Donta. You know
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: they were they were targeting Don King because Don King
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: would have he was promoting the w b C Heavyweight
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: champ or you know, and then if somebody wanted to
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: get a shot who was not in his promotion, he was,
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: he was making him get options and he had and
- 1:43:26Speaker 5: he had you know, Carl King, his step son, was
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: managing fighters.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: So the same thing they would have been doing if
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: they were in that position probably right.
- 1:43:34Speaker 5: Right, The thing is, that's what I mean. It was
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: like too old away from Yeah, it was too like
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: overly targeted almost like we're taking this away and I'm
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: not saying don kingdon do some bad things. You know
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: Field's book on him, which was real good and stuff,
- 1:43:49Speaker 5: but there's a lot of bad things in boxing, correct, right,
- 1:43:52Speaker 5: There's there's a lot of bad things in boxing, and
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: a bill just not just designed to go after Don King,
- 1:43:59Speaker 5: which is what it was. Because the problem with the
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: Ali Act is I mean, and this goes to the
- 1:44:08Speaker 5: type of stuff you know, you and I talk about
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: every week we get to talk, like I mean, it's
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: based on on alphabets, like like you're you're making like
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: the alphabets are credible organizations.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: Like in other.
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: Words, it has to do with you know, fighters fighting
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: for alphabet belts. And when I argue with some of
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: those people that argue for things like the Ali Act,
- 1:44:29Speaker 5: especially some people who also follow MMA who don't understand
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: boxing as well, and some of them actually listen when
- 1:44:34Speaker 5: I pointed this out, like you know, the alphabets rank
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: undeserving fighters all the time. It's it's it's not the
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: WBC designs the most deserving person is going to become
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: the quote unquote mandatory. It's who's politically connected. Look at
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: their rankings. I mean they're a joke, all of them.
- 1:44:53Speaker 5: I mean, I mean all the alphabets.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: There are no decide who accidentally took drugs too.
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: Right and decided who accidental he took drugs or you know,
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: we're going to collect a fine from Povetkin and he's
- 1:45:05Speaker 5: going to keep fighting. Yeah, you know, all all that
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: kind of nons It's basically like a bribe, you know
- 1:45:09Speaker 5: what I mean, Like they're going to give us two
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: hundred and fifty thousand dollars, We're gonna let him keep fighting.
- 1:45:14Speaker 5: I mean, that's you know that, that's what that was
- 1:45:17Speaker 5: so like, and there's you know, all the examples of it.
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: It doesn't he and the ALI Act doesn't apply overseas.
- 1:45:24Speaker 5: It's only in the US. So you know, he shouldn't
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: really have much of a topic on this because I
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: was laughing and he's talking about, oh now you care,
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: you know, and under this jurisdiction, what are you talking about?
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: I thought he doesn't follow any of the quote unquote
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: principles of it what he's promoted in the UK. You know,
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: That's why I was laughing. So, I mean, so I
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: think that the intention is good, but some of the
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: opposition to change is is a little misguided.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I I'd rather have.
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: The fighters at the top get the money instead of
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: the promotions.
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: But the promoters have to be profitable.
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: You are running a business, you know, under business.
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: But I think let's get to this basics.
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: Yeah, and anybody that follows boxing regularly has to say
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: this that they're being honest with themselves and they get
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: away from the biases like I'm saying about they don't
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: want promoters to get some of this fighter money, which
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: I don't either. Is it's not working. It's not working
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: for the sport. It doesn't work. I mean, the sport's
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: fading in popularity. There's really no protections. I mean, you've
- 1:46:26Speaker 5: got undercard fighters risking their lives for a couple of
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: one hundred bucks, you know, a thousand bucks or what.
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: So if they get a thousand, does that make it good?
- 1:46:34Speaker 5: I mean, look at what we know about CTE. Who's
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: going to take care of these people when they take
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: all the shots when they're not at the very top
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: of the earners. I mean it really like it doesn't
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: really make any sense. Let's face it, even though I
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: want the fighters to get the money instead of promoters,
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: but it doesn't really make any sense that a canelo
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: may weather a fury whoever it may be, even if
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: they're to draw that it doesn't get like revenue distributed
- 1:46:59Speaker 5: some I mean, there's guys getting permanent brain injury and
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: women you know, fighting for five thousand dollars and like
- 1:47:07Speaker 5: what what sense that? No health insurance? You know, no pension?
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: What makes sense? And you can say this and develop
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: countries in Europe and the US because I learned this
- 1:47:17Speaker 5: as a lawyer. You know, somebody does have to take
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: care of them at a certain point. It's you and me. Yeah,
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: like so the promoters aren't paying for that, but you
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: and I are, You and I are. It's not coming
- 1:47:32Speaker 5: out of Canelos. You well, a little bits coming out
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: of Canelos, share or Mayweather or whatever. But it's like everybody,
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: you know, you know what, you know what they're paying for.
- 1:47:41Speaker 5: And I hate to say, like this, but the funeral.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: Is what they're ying.
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly. You know, somebody's going to Medica, Medicaid or
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: with a disability on Medicare if they had enough time in,
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: if they even had enough time. So, you know, we
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: the sport has always been the most dangerous and what
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: we know now it's it's not realistic to say, oh,
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: boxing is in a better place with this ALI Act,
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: because it's not. It's not. I mean I look at
- 1:48:10Speaker 5: the fighters that I look at what top MMA fighters
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: get paid compared to boxing. I don't like that. I mean,
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: I'm with the people then saying hey, we don't want
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: that to happen. I don't want that to happen either.
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: But I know the sport's not working the way things
- 1:48:23Speaker 5: are now, and I'm starting to see.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: To me, the ALI Act is.
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: Is it wasn't intended that way, but it's kind of
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: getting in the way of trying to do something differently. Now,
- 1:48:36Speaker 5: this Revival Act may not be the answer. I'm not
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: saying it's going to be the answer.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: But it's the right path potentially.
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: Right, let's say, let's say this at the least, like
- 1:48:49Speaker 5: even though these organizations have problems, like you you know,
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: you would need to try to get to something in boxing,
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: like you have a FIFA for a World Cup, you
- 1:48:59Speaker 5: have you know, USA track and Field is the governing
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: body the track and field in the United States. You know,
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: it's it's not a revenue generating sport like that, especially
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: as the years have gone on. But like you have
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: something like not the alphabet organizations. I mean, yeah, you know,
- 1:49:18Speaker 5: you know, they got it. They got to be put
- 1:49:19Speaker 5: out of business. They got to be out completely.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: And that's what we said to just buy those bastards out.
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: If you're throwing all this damn money around, just chuck
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: it at them and put it together.
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: Yeah, they really can't be worth they really can't be
- 1:49:32Speaker 5: worth much.
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, like you know, you know, everyone's got their price.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: That's an old saying for a reason direct everyone's got
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: a price, and if you could just maybe you just
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: call it the WBC because they've been around, so whatever, whatever,
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: the green Belt a lot of people let whatever it is.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: I don't give them two ships of who wins, but
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: just buy them out and put them together. I don't know,
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: because because this because the only thing about this is
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: you got your own ranking and all all that. That's cool,
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: but who's doing the ranking right? And then if you
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: look at t KO, they would need to have like
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: a Hayman type roster ten years ago, two hundred people
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: or something if you're really gonna do you know, because
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: because if you use the Ring magazine rankings, that'd be great.
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: But then you can't say the best they're fighting the
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: best if you don't have the fighters under your right,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: you know. So what do you think about this? What
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: do you think?
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: You know?
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: I don't know. So do you think they're just gonna
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: go all in TKO? Because and another thing is they're
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: not paying for it. They're getting paid by the Sadis
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: to do it right. And they're already tracked, you know,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: multip people already tracked their lobbying. What came from you know,
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: came from the sadis her.
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: Hearn says that, you know, but he maybe he's right
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: about this.
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: We did talk about this.
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: We thought this is what they might be doing, you
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: know her and shaying that they're gonna they're gonna t
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: AO thing is going to be where they're going to
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: be starting like a ground up thing, which I think
- 1:51:04Speaker 5: you can do if you're patient enough, if you've got
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: to be real patient, real patient.
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: That's the thing.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: I got a feeling they're looking at that, but I
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: got a feeling they haven't fully made up their mind
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: because Turkey is still in at the high level, you know,
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: like Canelo Crawford of course, for example, what Dana White involved,
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: so you.
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: Know they're not going to make any money with his
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: pay scale, Yeah, right right, They're they want to make.
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: Money, right right, So you know, I think they're probably
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: still figuring out exactly how they want to do it.
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: But they, like I said, I mean, I don't know
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: if you know, White would do it this way with
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: you know, Turkey Ala sheet for the safety part of it.
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: But like there is a study out there too. I
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: was reading it. Randy Gordon cited it in the ring,
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: but you know, with actual data kind of fitting what
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: I've been saying about the brain injury part. I guess
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: one study was done a fighter where they came up
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: with and this will fit in what we're talking about.
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: Really the maximum amount of fights when you should be
- 1:52:08Speaker 5: out is twenty six fights. Okay, so you know you
- 1:52:12Speaker 5: know that's where I kept getting out about like this, well,
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: this this old system of these no hoper fights and
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: all this stuff, the amateur fights. It should just be
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: like if it's that idea I've had, Like so like
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: the ideal would be like let's say if TKO was
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: doing this kind of a developmental thing like this would
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: be a really really ideal, but it would make it safer.
- 1:52:36Speaker 5: Like so, let's say you started your you went to
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: this training center or whatever, they got good athletic prospects
- 1:52:44Speaker 5: maybe from Division I things and stuff, and you started
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: your career or real good high school whatever. You start
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: your career at about twenty you know, you get to
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: twenty six fights, and you get out when you're around thirty,
- 1:52:56Speaker 5: and you know, then you go to the next cycle
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: of fighters. Now you know, I know we don't have
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: it going that way now and stuff. But yeah, yeah,
- 1:53:03Speaker 5: it would be safer. You'd have less long term trauma.
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: It wasn't mean you wouldn't have any injuries and death,
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: but you know, it would be better. I know it
- 1:53:10Speaker 5: would be better on the data. And then maybe you
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: just have the guys learn in the training center and you.
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: Know everybody definitely we have to organize pretty thoroughly and
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: maybe even like you know, some sort of union.
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: Or something right, and then you have like you know,
- 1:53:25Speaker 5: it's difficult to get it right. We want everybody to
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: make good money.
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: I wants to join a damn union that'll get health
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: insurance and stuff.
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: I don't know, but something. But like the idea is
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: not like you'll see these people again. To me, they
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: don't know what they're talking about in a modern world. Like, well,
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: these guys got to get more active, more active. Like
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: if if you want to tell me they need to
- 1:53:46Speaker 5: fight twice a year, okay, I'll go with.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: You on that.
- 1:53:49Speaker 5: But yeah, it's not nineteen we know.
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: Right, we know a lot more.
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: I mean, we learned some stuff. Yeah, let's let's apply that.
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: Right, We're not having guys fight five times in the
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: year twenty twenty five with what we know, we're not
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: having guys fight five times a year. Look, Husick's doing well.
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: I mean he's been fighting once a year. His activity
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: his activity level later talk about it. But that's probably
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: by design for him too. I mean, like you know,
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: it's gone down. He and his total number of fights.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: Disciplined clearly too. You know, he's very disciplined, stays in
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: shape and all that. So and his total M Crawford.
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: M Crawford and his official total number of pro fights
- 1:54:25Speaker 5: is not that high. Yeah, so you know, yeah, sure
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: we had a lot of amateur and he had some
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: you know, world series of boxing, but still his actual number.
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: Of probably just do like a time limit. You wouldn't
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: probably limit it to the number of fights, you know,
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: maybe you just do a time time frame, you know. Yeah,
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: that's it. That that is interesting. Obviously it take a
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: lot of organization and get people on the same page,
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: which is very difficult in boxing, and just an overseer.
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: But who do you put in charge though you know,
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: been needed for so long.
- 1:54:56Speaker 5: Job. Yeah, you need an independent You need an independ
- 1:55:00Speaker 5: and a non corrupt Yeah. Basically, like I said, even
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: you know, like again you have the US, you have
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: an Olympic Committee, you know what I mean, it organize
- 1:55:08Speaker 5: the Olympics. Like sure there's been corruption and things, but
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: it's still better than the alphabets, Like you know, I mean,
- 1:55:13Speaker 5: it gets the job done. I'm trying to give examples,
- 1:55:16Speaker 5: like you need something like that for.
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: Boxing and no one. Yeah, committee, someone that's just getting
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: paid to do this job. But they're not going to
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: make money off the job. You know, it's not a
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: business for them. Like you're mentioning, it's a government. Uh,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: you know, it's an arm of the government or whatever, right, right,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: mini or whatever? Right?
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: So so you know, on the world level, would we
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: totally idea on the world.
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: Level and then on a US or something like that.
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: So you know, I mean this this, this to me
- 1:55:43Speaker 5: would be these are like the really the only hopes
- 1:55:45Speaker 5: to really save the sport at this sport, I do
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: think we're going downhill that fast.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:55:50Speaker 5: I was thinking about this before we came on too,
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: because this is playing out in a way in a way,
- 1:55:56Speaker 5: they're related, but it's playing out a little bit where
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: I didn't think it was. Like, you know, all my
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: decades of following boxing, I figured there probably would be
- 1:56:03Speaker 5: an end at some point, But I always thought it
- 1:56:05Speaker 5: would be only on the violence. Oh right, yeah, like ing, yeah,
- 1:56:11Speaker 5: like like or whatever, right, less popular, and then gradually
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: there became momentum.
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: You know. That's how I thought about that too, John,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: when I ever think about the end of it, you know,
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: maybe fifty years from now and people's mentality just change
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: or whatever. Right, My mom who's seventy seven, now she's like,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: she's not as big a boxing fan as she used to. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: So, like what I didn't see is what I'm seeing now,
- 1:56:35Speaker 5: Like that might be in part why some of it's happening,
- 1:56:40Speaker 5: you know, the quality of fights and things, which you know,
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: I don't blame the fighters in that sense, but the
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: point is what I kind of didn't see, even though
- 1:56:48Speaker 5: it was always bad, was just it's really like how
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: badly run the sport is now and the quality of
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: the fights like that, Hey, I see that taking it
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: to the end as bad as the moral outrage part
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: quicker too quicker. And now that I didn't that, I
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: actually I knew the sport had all the problems, but
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: the end, the ring product was always so basically exciting
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: for the most part that you know, I thought that
- 1:57:15Speaker 5: and ratings always used to be real high. I didn't
- 1:57:17Speaker 5: see this part where like just the quality was dropping
- 1:57:21Speaker 5: so much and things were getting so screwed up that
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: the sport were just kind of shriveling up. Outside of
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: the moral outrage.
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: Part, yeah, because it's always been a short money, short
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: term stuff, but now it's like crazy money. You're not
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: making a profit, and it's just even when you look
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: and go, man, I love this card, but if you're
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: not going to make any profit off the card, you're
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: not gonna nobody's seeing the damn thing.
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: And that's what people don't understand.
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: It.
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: It's not that we you know, I don't know, it's
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: it's it's really frustrating though.
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean until you just be have multiple UBOs,
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: like like pro Box they have a facility, they probably
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: could they probably could qualify it to be a UBO.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: There's some people Jake Paul probably could be a UBO,
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: Like that's cool. But then then you just have more
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: sanctioning belts potentially, you know. So it's like that's like
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: kind of what we said before all this just buy
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: everything up and you know, you can stretch stuff out
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: in court as you know, you know, and what do
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: you end up paying a fine or a settlement? Right,
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: you know, just monopolize and then pay your settlement and
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: just get it over with. Then you rown the whole
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: damn sport. And then you go off that and you
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: use the ring ring, you know, and maybe a mixture
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: of the transnational in the ring, and you you blend
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: that together whatever it is, and that would be better.
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: That would be better.
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: That's kind of what I do in my That's what
- 1:58:51Speaker 5: I that's what I do in my own mind. And
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: then and then I add an additional step that most
- 1:58:58Speaker 5: very few people I don't know. I'm probably the only
- 1:59:00Speaker 5: one I know that does it, but I like to
- 1:59:01Speaker 5: do it. I think is be better perspective. All I
- 1:59:03Speaker 5: kind of meld the ring and the transnational. And then
- 1:59:06Speaker 5: I'll do one in my own mind where I'm like, okay,
- 1:59:08Speaker 5: if there was eight or nine weight classes, right, yeah,
- 1:59:12Speaker 5: they're melting, They're they're merged, and I'm merging the weight
- 1:59:14Speaker 5: classes and I'm saying, and I can compare it to
- 1:59:17Speaker 5: like nineteen fifty or whatever, Yeah, this is this is
- 1:59:22Speaker 5: and it gives me a lot of perspective, you know.
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, for sure, I think you have to monopolize
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: the sport to save it. I just think you do.
- 1:59:32Speaker 5: Exactly because you know, you foll it closely enough. It's
- 1:59:35Speaker 5: not working the way it is now, Chris. It's just
- 1:59:37Speaker 5: not so these people that approaches like, look, guys, women,
- 1:59:41Speaker 5: you know, if you can't, if you don't have a
- 1:59:43Speaker 5: better solution than this, I mean, because this is where
- 1:59:46Speaker 5: we're at now is not working.
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: I mean you know, yeah, and then and then, like
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: you said, then all of a sudden, there are you know,
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: some media members whatever, long time boxing people, like they're
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: afraid to monopolize.
- 1:59:57Speaker 2: But then you're like, well, can.
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: You prove that's a monopoly, because in some sense you
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: can't because they thought they could do that with the
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: Hayman and then you know, or like they brought they're
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: breaking the ILI Act. It's like, well they didn't have
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: one fighter come testify that he was getting screwed for HAMI.
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: So it's like, right, so you just filed this lawsuit
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: for no reason. I mean the judge that Golden Boy
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: lost was ridiculous. And then the judge just let him
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: have it. You know, they found more problems with their
- 2:00:26Speaker 1: contracts than the whole thing.
- 2:00:28Speaker 5: So Adam, you know, it's a good argument.
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: Mergers happened all the time. We just saw a damn
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: merger happen. Well, and there can be a big one too.
- 2:00:41Speaker 5: I saw this happen, you know, twenty years ago, and
- 2:00:43Speaker 5: it was a good argument in the passed. Keep this
- 2:00:46Speaker 5: in mind too, because think of how bad off boxing is.
- 2:00:51Speaker 5: When Exam and Serious merged, like twenty years ago, you know,
- 2:00:55Speaker 5: they were the only two satellite radio companies, so there
- 2:00:59Speaker 5: only became one satellite radio company SXM, which still exists
- 2:01:03Speaker 5: Serious XM. But so there were there were there was arguments.
- 2:01:07Speaker 5: Then there were monopoly. It's one satellite radio company. How
- 2:01:11Speaker 5: can you only have one satellite radio company. There's no competition.
- 2:01:14Speaker 5: You got to can't let that merger pass. Their argument was,
- 2:01:18Speaker 5: we got to compete against everybody else, We got to
- 2:01:21Speaker 5: compete against all these other entertainment mediums for satellite radio
- 2:01:26Speaker 5: and even have a shot. We have to be merged
- 2:01:29Speaker 5: and you have to still go through or we can't
- 2:01:31Speaker 5: compete with all these other entertainment options. And the government
- 2:01:35Speaker 5: ended up that argument was accepted, and it makes I
- 2:01:40Speaker 5: think about it, like if you combine boxing, when you
- 2:01:44Speaker 5: really look at it, the combined entity could say, Oh,
- 2:01:47Speaker 5: you're saying we're monopoly. Quick, we're competing against m m A.
- 2:01:51Speaker 5: You know we've got MLB all these other sports. Well
- 2:01:55Speaker 5: you're competing against now, right right. You know we're lucky
- 2:01:58Speaker 5: to survive, you know we're lucky.
- 2:02:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, that's it's I don't know, man, Mergers happen
- 2:02:06Speaker 1: every day, and not every day, but you know, like
- 2:02:10Speaker 1: every year or whatever. And some of them are clearly
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: like depending on who's in there, what gets approved, what doesn't,
- 2:02:18Speaker 1: what you're allowed to get away with, like Sinclair, you know,
- 2:02:22Speaker 1: buying up all this shit and then some of it
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: going bankrupt. You know, it's just I don't know, I
- 2:02:29Speaker 1: just you know, I'm I'm you know, capitalists first mixed
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: with some really makes sense to your people type of thing.
- 2:02:39Speaker 1: That's what I'm into. Right, You gotta capitalism works if
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: you use the right type of capitalism. Right. Yeah, people
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: get afraid of social stuff, but it's it has to
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: be a combo. But you have to capitalism first. Even
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: Sweden is capitalism first. Then they mix in the social stuff, right,
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: But it's capitalism. You have to you have to have
- 2:03:01Speaker 1: the combo.
- 2:03:02Speaker 5: I mean you have a police force, I mean, I
- 2:03:03Speaker 5: mean in theory, if it was absolute pure capitalism, there
- 2:03:07Speaker 5: would be no Yeah, what do you recovering police force?
- 2:03:11Speaker 5: But you know we have to think it's like medicare
- 2:03:13Speaker 5: that people like for good reason. Yeah, social security, other things.
- 2:03:18Speaker 5: You know, there's there's all kinds of social contests, public schools.
- 2:03:21Speaker 5: Of course they get attacks sometimes, but they're good things.
- 2:03:23Speaker 5: I mean, you don't have pure capitalism. I mean, look, look,
- 2:03:29Speaker 5: there was bailouts. If there was there was pure capitalism,
- 2:03:32Speaker 5: there wouldn't have been bailouts of.
- 2:03:34Speaker 1: Exactly, tax cuts or whatever all that. You know, it
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: just doesn't seem like it is when it But yeah,
- 2:03:42Speaker 1: I'm not afraid of this monopoly because there is, because
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: it would just help everything, including the fighters. It would
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: definitely and we've always talked about the baseline of bay.
- 2:03:53Speaker 1: You know, this doesn't necessarily cover it because I think
- 2:03:56Speaker 1: it's shiny numbers that sounded oh the that's nice that
- 2:04:00Speaker 1: you're doing that. But then if you're really hurt, twenty
- 2:04:04Speaker 1: five thousand is not going to go that far.
- 2:04:05Speaker 5: Now, it's just boxing. What's not right is boxing is
- 2:04:09Speaker 5: just a lottery.
- 2:04:09Speaker 1: Now.
- 2:04:10Speaker 5: I mean, yes, to fight and risk your life and
- 2:04:13Speaker 5: your long term health that you can be Mayweather or Canelo, right,
- 2:04:17Speaker 5: which is just a couple of our Joshua or fewer
- 2:04:19Speaker 5: your wild There are a couple of guys, I mean,
- 2:04:22Speaker 5: these other guys even who you think they're making decent
- 2:04:25Speaker 5: money when they get taxed and they got to pay
- 2:04:27Speaker 5: trainers and they don't have another job and everything, and
- 2:04:30Speaker 5: then they can't do another job when when their boxing
- 2:04:33Speaker 5: career is over and they need to all health care,
- 2:04:35Speaker 5: they're not making it. They're not making enough money. Ton't
- 2:04:37Speaker 5: even get through their life. Uh uh, you know, not
- 2:04:41Speaker 5: at all. So we'll see.
- 2:04:43Speaker 1: I mean, I don't I don't think this is the
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: ultimate answer unless it's all the other stuff combined into it,
- 2:04:52Speaker 1: and it's it's just bring it all together. And you know,
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 2:04:57Speaker 5: Ready, I'm ready for the alphabets to go. I mean,
- 2:05:00Speaker 5: you know, I've always been ready for it, and like
- 2:05:02Speaker 5: you know, so that's where my thinking comes in.
- 2:05:05Speaker 2: Now this would be the start of that.
- 2:05:07Speaker 5: That's what I look at it like, this is this is.
- 2:05:09Speaker 1: A long road, but it is a start to Hey,
- 2:05:11Speaker 1: we want to do our system this way. We're not
- 2:05:13Speaker 1: going to take fees from you. I do like that.
- 2:05:16Speaker 2: They said they're not going to take fees. But but
- 2:05:19Speaker 2: it is a long process this way, that's for sure.
- 2:05:22Speaker 5: Right, And what about right the alphabet sanctioning fees that
- 2:05:25Speaker 5: they take from fighters persons, So you know, you got
- 2:05:29Speaker 5: to pay these corrupt people money out of.
- 2:05:31Speaker 2: Your purse, right, even if it's an intro, right.
- 2:05:35Speaker 1: For an interview.
- 2:05:37Speaker 5: And they're ruining all the telecasts with alphabet belts all over,
- 2:05:40Speaker 5: they really are for me, the really, I mean, everybody's
- 2:05:43Speaker 5: everybody's got a belt. The commentators are screaming like an infomercial.
- 2:05:48Speaker 5: You know, Bias is now the youngest current Puerto Rican.
- 2:05:53Speaker 5: It's just all kinds of nonsense. You know, every telecast
- 2:05:58Speaker 5: it just you know, no casual fans gonna follow it.
- 2:06:03Speaker 1: And then real quick, the damn, the okie dope, the
- 2:06:06Speaker 1: bait and switch. So Turkey comes out and says pay
- 2:06:09Speaker 1: per view has ruined the sport.
- 2:06:11Speaker 2: It's caused major.
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: Damnae court, which, by the way, I just ran a
- 2:06:16Speaker 1: five of them a short amount of time. Then he says,
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: you know what, come November, we're gonna straighten it all out.
- 2:06:24Speaker 1: And I was like, okay, you know that's better than
- 2:06:28Speaker 1: our current scenario. Then then the very next day, you
- 2:06:31Speaker 1: couldn't like make you couldn't make this ship up if
- 2:06:34Speaker 1: you try. The very next day, the Zone puts out
- 2:06:37Speaker 1: a press release saying, hey, if you want to get
- 2:06:41Speaker 1: all the pay per views, meaning we're still because the
- 2:06:43Speaker 1: way it reads, they're still in the pay per view business,
- 2:06:46Speaker 1: right is the second So we're already getting screwed on
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: the first subscription. Then they got a then they got
- 2:06:52Speaker 1: a second subscription that will pay for all the pay
- 2:06:56Speaker 1: per views, but you're still doing so the outside fans
- 2:07:00Speaker 1: they have to buy the pay per view, but the
- 2:07:02Speaker 1: hardcore is they just pay a one fee and then
- 2:07:06Speaker 1: you're gonna be good for all the papers for the year.
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: What So, now there's a second paywall, which.
- 2:07:15Speaker 5: Like I said, for one hundred thousand hard it's worse, though,
- 2:07:18Speaker 5: it's even worse than you think. I had to read
- 2:07:20Speaker 5: it five times to make sure I wasn't imagining things.
- 2:07:23Speaker 5: But I did read it five times, and it was
- 2:07:27Speaker 5: worse than you even said, because the first five times
- 2:07:30Speaker 5: I read it, I thought it was what you said,
- 2:07:32Speaker 5: and then the sixth time I read it, the Zone said,
- 2:07:35Speaker 5: you'll pay us the two forty nine or whatever now,
- 2:07:38Speaker 5: and we're working in the future.
- 2:07:40Speaker 1: And they didn't even say, see what Turkey's gonna do.
- 2:07:44Speaker 5: And if if we can work this out, you might
- 2:07:47Speaker 5: get some paid perviews for this, if we work it out.
- 2:07:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we work it out.
- 2:07:51Speaker 1: We're still still working on it, right, we're still working out.
- 2:07:55Speaker 5: So they weren't even giving you the.
- 2:08:00Speaker 4: Right.
- 2:08:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so what's the press release about it? Then we
- 2:08:02Speaker 1: heard the quotes of maybe there's a lot of maybe's
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: going on, John. Maybe we'll split the cards in three divisions,
- 2:08:10Speaker 1: So now you're downgrading your product. You say A plus,
- 2:08:15Speaker 1: B and C C will charge you with zone with
- 2:08:18Speaker 1: little money. So that's shitty fights, that's what you're telling us.
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: The B is middle money, pretty decent fights if you
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: like the fighter, and that's with a lump sum one
- 2:08:28Speaker 1: time from the zone and that's it. Then we'll make
- 2:08:31Speaker 1: the And.
- 2:08:32Speaker 2: This is the kicker.
- 2:08:33Speaker 1: They said all this, then they get the A plus obviously, right,
- 2:08:36Speaker 1: that's the whatever it is. But then then the kicker
- 2:08:40Speaker 1: is they He says, this will make the dizone have
- 2:08:44Speaker 1: the fan base in American, UK, around and around the
- 2:08:47Speaker 1: world to be between five and twenty million subscribers. And
- 2:08:53Speaker 1: when I first read it around the world, I didn't
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: hear that part.
- 2:08:57Speaker 2: I just heard us UK.
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: But if you're including around the world, that means you
- 2:09:01Speaker 1: don't have twenty millions describers, like it's labeled out there
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: that you do, and then you start at five what
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: do they have world wide? Then if you're thinking this
- 2:09:12Speaker 1: is gonna get you a five, yeah, I mean, I mean,
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: this is fucking ridiculous.
- 2:09:18Speaker 5: It's just right.
- 2:09:19Speaker 1: None of this is That's what I mean. None of
- 2:09:20Speaker 1: this is working. It's just none of this is working.
- 2:09:25Speaker 1: That's funny that, like she said, you had to read
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: it a bunch of times, and it got worse every time.
- 2:09:29Speaker 1: It got worse every time.
- 2:09:30Speaker 5: I mean I was like trying to get excited and
- 2:09:32Speaker 5: I read it five times and I'm like wait a second,
- 2:09:34Speaker 5: And the sixth time, I'm like, I'm paying two hundred
- 2:09:36Speaker 5: and forty nine dollars for nothing.
- 2:09:40Speaker 2: Yeah, talk about downgrading your product.
- 2:09:43Speaker 1: We'll have a CE, especially in America, like a B
- 2:09:46Speaker 1: and C that that's not how you want to do
- 2:09:48Speaker 1: it here. You don't tell anybody that's a C level anything,
- 2:09:53Speaker 1: you know. Plus I would I would just never trust
- 2:09:55Speaker 1: them on that, I mean exactly, and why would we
- 2:09:59Speaker 1: you know, Ever since basically like Covid, they've been a
- 2:10:04Speaker 1: not a great company to the fans, not a great company.
- 2:10:08Speaker 1: Ever since Covid hit, they've they've actually been pretty bad.
- 2:10:12Speaker 1: I mean, you're just paying an extra month to cancel
- 2:10:16Speaker 1: it anyway, which, like I don't I don't know how
- 2:10:19Speaker 1: that's legal or if it is, or they just haven't
- 2:10:21Speaker 1: been challenged yet. But you basically tell you, well, I
- 2:10:25Speaker 1: suppose they told you, didn't they They did tell you, John,
- 2:10:27Speaker 1: they said that you're gonna pay an extra month just
- 2:10:29Speaker 1: to cancel.
- 2:10:30Speaker 2: So I guess that is legal because they told you.
- 2:10:33Speaker 1: I was hoping.
- 2:10:34Speaker 5: I'm just hoping Netflix just takes all this over if
- 2:10:36Speaker 5: they find some value in boxing. But that's where boxing
- 2:10:39Speaker 5: can't shoot themselves in the foot. They got to give
- 2:10:41Speaker 5: them good fights. I mean, that's and.
- 2:10:44Speaker 1: They got to come together. Yeah, it's gotta gotta blend
- 2:10:48Speaker 1: a bunch of stuff together. That's why that you know,
- 2:10:50Speaker 1: even PBC in in uh, Jake, Paul or you throw
- 2:10:54Speaker 1: top ranking in that mixed, well then we can then
- 2:10:56Speaker 1: we're talking. But I don't know. All right, it's it's
- 2:11:00Speaker 1: been a little long winded. I appreciate you hanging out.
- 2:11:03Speaker 1: We had a lot to talk about any any any
- 2:11:08Speaker 1: last words before you get out of here, sir. That's
- 2:11:11Speaker 1: that's about it, Chris.
- 2:11:12Speaker 5: I was thinking about a lot of these things, but
- 2:11:13Speaker 5: we pretty much got it all covered. So be interesting
- 2:11:18Speaker 5: to see how some of the stuff we talked about
- 2:11:21Speaker 5: plays out now.
- 2:11:23Speaker 1: And with such a crazy schedule at times, with so
- 2:11:26Speaker 1: much stuff going on. After this week, the Dwarte, Simms
- 2:11:30Speaker 1: Junior and pro Gray and Diaz, you know whatever, that's
- 2:11:34Speaker 1: the c stuff, I guess, Yeah, there's literally a weekend
- 2:11:40Speaker 1: the next week, and ask that there's just nothing, just nothing.
- 2:11:43Speaker 1: You're like, what we get here? Why is there nothing?
- 2:11:46Speaker 1: You know?
- 2:11:46Speaker 5: I know people say like it just kind of kind
- 2:11:48Speaker 5: of like we're about to work. Just things are dropping
- 2:11:50Speaker 5: off a cliff.
- 2:11:52Speaker 1: Oh and I even saw Mattroom's fall plan and I'm like,
- 2:11:59Speaker 1: I mean the Boots, the opponent in October, Josh Kelly,
- 2:12:05Speaker 1: I mean that's awful. Josh Kelly, you kick my ass. Okay,
- 2:12:09Speaker 1: that's fine, I get it that I'm not saying it
- 2:12:11Speaker 1: ain't bad about him, but come.
- 2:12:13Speaker 5: On, like that's awful. That's the stuff that it's not
- 2:12:17Speaker 5: worth your time. It's really not.
- 2:12:19Speaker 1: And it's like you just re upped and that's your
- 2:12:21Speaker 1: first fight on the reup, like, yeah, we just had
- 2:12:24Speaker 1: we finally got a good fight out of the deal
- 2:12:26Speaker 1: with Stanonius and then you go, okay, we will go
- 2:12:30Speaker 1: too late if we get into this topic. So all right, John,
- 2:12:33Speaker 1: I appreciate you stopping in.
- 2:12:34Speaker 5: Man, great talking with you as always.
- 2:12:37Speaker 1: All right, have it going you too, alrighty, So yeah,
- 2:12:43Speaker 1: Dowarte Simmons, which, like I said, I'm not trying to
- 2:12:45Speaker 1: rip on that individual fight by any stretch. It actually
- 2:12:49Speaker 1: is very uh.
- 2:12:51Speaker 2: Like, it's an interesting fight.
- 2:12:53Speaker 1: It's competitive. I'd probably Sarah, I haven't checked in a
- 2:12:57Speaker 1: little bit, but I'd have to say that's the most
- 2:12:58Speaker 1: competitive on paper me double check. I mean it's right there.
- 2:13:03Speaker 1: You have you know, Kenneth Simms Junior plus one twenty
- 2:13:06Speaker 1: four plus one twenty five. The highest I see on
- 2:13:10Speaker 1: UNIBT is plus one thirty, you know on Wednesday, speaking
- 2:13:18Speaker 1: of to Shaa sand of Bal, like, I think that's
- 2:13:23Speaker 1: going to be an entertaining card. Vargas what is he got?
- 2:13:28Speaker 1: Vargus Antonio Vargas what plus two hundred plus two twenty five?
- 2:13:34Speaker 1: You know, I just think it's going to be an
- 2:13:36Speaker 1: entertaining card in general, you know what we'll see. I
- 2:13:42Speaker 1: do think sand of Baal is a is I wouldn't
- 2:13:47Speaker 1: say completely like undervalued here, but I have kind of
- 2:13:53Speaker 1: seen I don't know, I like sand of Bal he's
- 2:13:59Speaker 1: like to right, like he's just gonna get ran over
- 2:14:02Speaker 1: or whatever. And this is this is, this is on
- 2:14:05Speaker 1: his own now. By the way, it is tomorrow. It's
- 2:14:08Speaker 1: just a matter of hours. Really. I think it's like
- 2:14:13Speaker 1: it's in the wee hours of the morning obviously, right,
- 2:14:18Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean I think, uh, I think it's
- 2:14:23Speaker 1: gonna be just a good fight, you know. And obviously
- 2:14:25Speaker 1: Age could play a factor that that might that might
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: play a factor. I think send a ball, you know,
- 2:14:33Speaker 1: he's uh, I think he's a really good fighter. Man.
- 2:14:40Speaker 2: I think he's you know, I don't know.
- 2:14:45Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be good. And and like I said,
- 2:14:48Speaker 1: if Age comes into this, you know, it could get tough.
- 2:14:52Speaker 1: It could get really tough.
- 2:14:53Speaker 2: But that so we have that we have.
- 2:14:56Speaker 1: Like I said, the card on Saturday is that Saturday.
- 2:14:59Speaker 1: I believe that's sad today on the zone and both
- 2:15:03Speaker 1: these cards are on his own now. Clarissa Shield's dinner
- 2:15:08Speaker 1: thing had a really healthy, healthy crowd shouts out to her.
- 2:15:16Speaker 1: You know, watching that overtime, I think that was that
- 2:15:22Speaker 1: was on that was on Friday. I believe, right, Elijah
- 2:15:26Speaker 1: Pears and uh Dash manas Marinas on that overtime boxing,
- 2:15:40Speaker 1: I thought, uhsh marinezh Marinez. You know I gave him,
- 2:15:48Speaker 1: Let's see, looking at my scorecard, I gave him the
- 2:15:50Speaker 1: first round. Obviously he was fighting off the back foot,
- 2:16:00Speaker 1: you know, he he kind of landed a beautiful that
- 2:16:06Speaker 1: kind of he he landed a beautiful left hand drops
- 2:16:09Speaker 1: pierced right. The second round I thought was pretty close.
- 2:16:15Speaker 1: I did think, Uhdash Marinez, Dash Marinez kind I can't
- 2:16:21Speaker 1: remember how to say his name, Marinas, I think it is.
- 2:16:25Speaker 1: I thought he had the cleaner work in round two.
- 2:16:31Speaker 1: Pierce was starting to bring pressure with the looping shots,
- 2:16:34Speaker 1: the jab and a few clean lands. You know, I
- 2:16:37Speaker 1: think I gave Pierce the third round, or maybe maybe
- 2:16:42Speaker 1: I think I I gave him the fourth round. No,
- 2:16:48Speaker 1: I gave him the third round. That's right, Pierce the
- 2:16:50Speaker 1: third round and then back to Dash Marinez. I thought
- 2:16:58Speaker 1: he closed with some heavy punches and very good defense.
- 2:17:04Speaker 1: Pierce started with those wild shots, started to land in
- 2:17:08Speaker 1: round five. I thought the sixth round was a two
- 2:17:12Speaker 1: way round, very close, could have went either way. And
- 2:17:17Speaker 1: then once Pierce and that you were talking about on
- 2:17:19Speaker 1: the broadcast, once Pierce stuck to his jab, that jab
- 2:17:23Speaker 1: left hand, you know, like he did in the seventh,
- 2:17:26Speaker 1: started picking that up. I thought. In the eighth both
- 2:17:29Speaker 1: of them were landing fairly well. The better punches were
- 2:17:32Speaker 1: Pierce ninth round come around, early exchanges, some fun stuff.
- 2:17:39Speaker 1: Pierce's landing some really nice hooks to the head, a
- 2:17:41Speaker 1: few nice body shots as well. Pierce landed a big
- 2:17:46Speaker 1: right hand and then another one dropped them, and then
- 2:17:51Speaker 1: dash Marinas got up, but who Pierce landed a right,
- 2:17:58Speaker 1: two right hooks, one to the body under the head,
- 2:18:00Speaker 1: and it was lights the fuck out. It was a
- 2:18:05Speaker 1: gorgeous shot. So that was a fun fight. I did
- 2:18:12Speaker 1: enjoy that fight a lot, just because I wanted to.
- 2:18:16Speaker 1: You know, it looked like Pierce was just trying to
- 2:18:19Speaker 1: knock him out. But once he got on his jab
- 2:18:22Speaker 1: and tried to set up the shots, what do you know.
- 2:18:25Speaker 1: The Manuel Flores Jorge Chavez. That was Thursday.
- 2:18:28Speaker 2: I believe I thought Chavez won that fight.
- 2:18:32Speaker 1: It was a draw.
- 2:18:33Speaker 2: It was a good fight, but I thought he won
- 2:18:36Speaker 2: the fight.
- 2:18:39Speaker 1: And then.
- 2:18:43Speaker 2: What excuse me, there was.
- 2:18:48Speaker 1: There's another fight I wanted to talk about from last weekend. Oh,
- 2:18:54Speaker 1: Tony Harrison got dropped, but he ended up winning. He
- 2:18:57Speaker 1: said he's gonna get back in the lab and come
- 2:19:01Speaker 1: back another fifty four pounder there. Oh Ryan Gardner twelfth round,
- 2:19:07Speaker 1: uh t ko over.
- 2:19:08Speaker 2: Reese belt belt something like that.
- 2:19:12Speaker 1: Ballotti Ballatti, Pilate's that you know that that that was
- 2:19:18Speaker 1: pretty good. I like that Gardner finished it off. I
- 2:19:24Speaker 1: think that about wraps it up for for last weekend.
- 2:19:27Speaker 1: Like I said, Regis Prograe and Joseph Di Diaz Junior
- 2:19:33Speaker 1: on that undercard. Joshua Edwards is in action as well,
- 2:19:37Speaker 1: but Dwarte and Kenneth you know, kend Of, it's a
- 2:19:40Speaker 1: mid level fight. I'm not gonna sit there and lie
- 2:19:43Speaker 1: to it's a mid level fight. I think they're fighting. Yeah,
- 2:19:45Speaker 1: they're fighting in Chicago if I remember correctly. But you know,
- 2:19:50Speaker 1: like it'll be good. I think this week is just good.
- 2:19:53Speaker 1: Like you know, I think tomorrow or yeah, tomorrow, this morning,
- 2:19:57Speaker 1: I should say it should be just a card. A
- 2:20:00Speaker 1: lot of times it is from that part of the
- 2:20:03Speaker 1: part of the country. Let's see here, you know, we
- 2:20:09Speaker 1: keep hearing like, uh, we keep hearing Pakiao. Who's next?
- 2:20:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't doubt if it's Roly, But then again, we
- 2:20:18Speaker 1: heard that Rowley and Garcia you know, are potentially, you know,
- 2:20:25Speaker 1: in talks, so you know, maybe Pacio Grabrante. I'm not
- 2:20:32Speaker 1: I really don't know what what you know, if that
- 2:20:38Speaker 1: would happen or not. I believe they're probably going towards that.
- 2:20:43Speaker 1: Hopefully Roach does get his rematch though Crocker and Donovan
- 2:20:49Speaker 1: is now official for September thirtieth or No thirteenth. What
- 2:20:52Speaker 1: am I saying that's the rematch? I do like that fight.
- 2:21:00Speaker 1: You know, time will tell about top rank. You know,
- 2:21:03Speaker 1: these are quotes that we're gonna work with a big
- 2:21:05Speaker 1: streaming service.
- 2:21:06Speaker 2: We're currently negotiating a deal. Maybe that's what it.
- 2:21:09Speaker 1: Is, and then in over the air network going forward,
- 2:21:12Speaker 1: so we'll have two or three outlets.
- 2:21:13Speaker 2: That's what Bob said. Hopefully that's true.
- 2:21:17Speaker 1: As I mentioned, Ennis did sign a new deal with
- 2:21:21Speaker 1: Matt Stroom. But like I said, you know, it's just
- 2:21:29Speaker 1: like I don't know, man, I just don't know. Like,
- 2:21:34Speaker 1: so that's your first I understand going to fifty. You
- 2:21:36Speaker 1: don't have to fight the killer at fifty or eight
- 2:21:40Speaker 1: killer at fifty four. But like Josh Kelly though, and
- 2:21:45Speaker 1: we hear like two you know, it's it's out there
- 2:21:48Speaker 1: about the two tune ups at fifty four. But I'd
- 2:21:53Speaker 1: much rather him fight Tellias than Kelly. Like, I don't know, man,
- 2:22:00Speaker 1: that that's that's crazy. Oh.
- 2:22:05Speaker 2: I did get a message saying what am I What
- 2:22:07Speaker 2: do I think of Antonio Vargas?
- 2:22:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean honestly, like I'm looking forward to his fight.
- 2:22:16Speaker 1: He had that great fight with Rodriguez. You know, both
- 2:22:22Speaker 1: both guys hit the canvas. Oh.
- 2:22:24Speaker 2: By the way, the cousin of Shiraz.
- 2:22:30Speaker 1: They call him Shooter.
- 2:22:31Speaker 2: I think he scored a like a.
- 2:22:34Speaker 1: I think it was like a third round knockout or whatever.
- 2:22:36Speaker 2: I saw this.
- 2:22:37Speaker 1: Someone sent me this. Joe Gallagher says, Lawrence and Kohli
- 2:22:41Speaker 1: is the real heavyweight boogeyman. I guess he had a.
- 2:22:46Speaker 2: Bicep injury and that that was the problem.
- 2:22:48Speaker 1: By the way, speaking to his zone until do until
- 2:22:52Speaker 1: the dope forget it's over, I was gonna say, off
- 2:22:57Speaker 1: it ends it ended yesterday, So for some reason I
- 2:23:00Speaker 1: thought it ended Wednesday, So I didn't tell you about that.
- 2:23:05Speaker 1: That's my bad. I got another message saying Xanderzias said
- 2:23:10Speaker 1: Vendora's team wanted this is from Ezra Raw someone screenshot
- 2:23:14Speaker 1: at him from brunch boxing shots after brunch Boxing that
- 2:23:18Speaker 1: Zayas said Fandora's team wanted a rehidration clause after he
- 2:23:23Speaker 1: said no to it.
- 2:23:24Speaker 2: But after he said no to it, oh, they announced
- 2:23:26Speaker 2: him zoo. I mean, like Ezra says in this completely.
- 2:23:32Speaker 1: Ridiculous of true. I mean that is that's ridiculous. Oh,
- 2:23:36Speaker 1: another ridiculous thing. This is Chava for me span reporting
- 2:23:40Speaker 1: Rodriguez Junior won't be bad for failed tests. Like I
- 2:23:43Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, it was an accident. He accidentally did it, so,
- 2:23:49Speaker 1: I mean, come on, dude, like so yeah he is
- 2:23:56Speaker 1: so they they they they he accidentally ingested a banned substance.
- 2:24:01Speaker 1: Previously reported the use of an over the counter energy
- 2:24:06Speaker 1: booster which he was underware included it. But that's what
- 2:24:11Speaker 1: you put in your body is what you're you're responsible for. Also,
- 2:24:17Speaker 1: Boka Chika, I saw this on brunch boxing as well
- 2:24:20Speaker 1: as test the positive for banned substance from October twenty
- 2:24:24Speaker 1: fourth against Quentin Randall. I'm not I'm not saying speaking
- 2:24:34Speaker 1: of tomorrow, night or tomorrow morning. I'm not saying sand
- 2:24:38Speaker 1: of Bal is going to win, but I don't know.
- 2:24:42Speaker 1: There's just something about that fight. He's a legit boxer.
- 2:24:47Speaker 1: He's a legit boxer. I'm seeing more messages, and you know,
- 2:24:52Speaker 1: the funny thing is Adam Booth said that basically the
- 2:24:55Speaker 1: Josh Kellys trainer, the Boots shit was like a low
- 2:24:59Speaker 1: ball too, like it wasn't even a good a good.
- 2:25:04Speaker 5: Offer.
- 2:25:05Speaker 1: The WBC saw this from boxing source. The WBC has
- 2:25:10Speaker 1: extended the deadline for Carlos Ottomis to work out a
- 2:25:12Speaker 1: deal with Jeanabec. I guess Solomon expects a resolution in
- 2:25:19Speaker 1: the coming days. That would be great. I would, you know,
- 2:25:24Speaker 1: I'd like that. Clarissa said on Aerials show talking about
- 2:25:29Speaker 1: Leila Ali. I now I know that Win Records has
- 2:25:36Speaker 1: the fifteen million and it's in escro basically saying if
- 2:25:40Speaker 1: she wants to fight, we got it. And I started
- 2:25:44Speaker 1: seeing people say, well, Pakia, I just fought at this,
- 2:25:47Speaker 1: you know, at that age, and it's like yeah, but
- 2:25:51Speaker 1: I mean Ali hasn't fought in like, what almost twenty years.
- 2:25:55Speaker 1: It's like seventeen or eighteen years. Totally different, completely different
- 2:26:01Speaker 1: than you know than what pak Ya just did. I mean,
- 2:26:05Speaker 1: it's it's a ridiculous thing to even you know, talk
- 2:26:09Speaker 1: about it in that in that light, because.
- 2:26:10Speaker 2: It's like, dude, please stop, like what are we doing here?
- 2:26:18Speaker 1: So yeah, I think that's about it.
- 2:26:20Speaker 8: Like I said, a lot of this stuff, we'll we'll
- 2:26:22Speaker 8: see what happens, you know, we'll see what happens with
- 2:26:29Speaker 8: the with these deals, with these fights.
- 2:26:31Speaker 1: Uh you know Amazon Prime, you know, is you know,
- 2:26:38Speaker 1: is this like is that September card really legit? You know,
- 2:26:46Speaker 1: I don't know, man, It's it's kind of like we
- 2:26:49Speaker 1: got to see it, you know, we got to.
- 2:26:52Speaker 2: See it to believe it.
- 2:26:53Speaker 1: And so we'll see. We'll see all this all pushes out.
- 2:26:57Speaker 1: We've heard ESPN wants to stay in the business. We've
- 2:27:00Speaker 1: heard Netflix, BBC's on Amazon. Can they make that?
- 2:27:04Speaker 2: Can they activate that deal even more? We're gonna find.
- 2:27:07Speaker 1: Out, you know, like I said, the Charloe Twins back
- 2:27:11Speaker 1: would be well, Mal's already been back, but I don't know.
- 2:27:16Speaker 2: We'll see. Hopefully it's good stuff.
- 2:27:19Speaker 1: But you know, at Rope It Up Radio, we're gonna
- 2:27:22Speaker 1: tell you how we feel and we're not gonna sugarcoat it.
- 2:27:25Speaker 1: We're not gonna just we can hope, but we're also realistic,
- 2:27:29Speaker 1: you know. And like I said, it's like, you know,
- 2:27:35Speaker 1: Queensberry and match Room and Golden Boy and you know,
- 2:27:39Speaker 1: being all onto Zone. Can they make better fights and
- 2:27:45Speaker 1: help the zone out? Maybe even if they make really
- 2:27:48Speaker 1: good fights, it's it's tough to say it's gonna do
- 2:27:52Speaker 1: ag in the US especially, but the UK as well.
- 2:27:56Speaker 1: But yeah, like I said, the PBC Top Rank and
- 2:28:00Speaker 1: Jake Paul, if they combled up and they were under
- 2:28:02Speaker 1: the same uh you know umbrella. You know that now
- 2:28:07Speaker 1: we're talking. Especially if the umbrella's Prime or Netflix or whatever,
- 2:28:11Speaker 1: you know, that's a different story.
- 2:28:13Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 2:28:17Speaker 1: Once you say, we'll see enough, I think it's time
- 2:28:21Speaker 1: to get out of here. Enjoy the fights this morning
- 2:28:24Speaker 1: in about less than twelve hours, Enjoy the Dwarte Simms
- 2:28:29Speaker 1: card on the Zone. Next week, I'm on DAYK, so
- 2:28:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna I don't know exactly when I'm gonna fit
- 2:28:37Speaker 1: in a show. I may do it a little later
- 2:28:42Speaker 1: in the week Thursday, I may do it Sunday night.
- 2:28:46Speaker 1: You know, I don't really know exactly. To be honest
- 2:28:48Speaker 1: with you, We'll kind of play it by ear. But
- 2:28:52Speaker 1: you know, we got some good fights coming up in
- 2:28:55Speaker 1: about two weeks. You know, I heard that card, that
- 2:29:00Speaker 1: ring card. I heard it was gonna be like twenty dollars,
- 2:29:05Speaker 1: twenty five dollars, but I just checked it on the
- 2:29:07Speaker 1: zone and it's fifty dollars here. So maybe you need
- 2:29:13Speaker 1: a code and you can. You know, they'll they'll take
- 2:29:17Speaker 1: something off it. I don't know. Anyway, I'm gonna get
- 2:29:19Speaker 1: out of here, enjoy the week. You're back next week
- 2:29:23Speaker 1: sometime
