- 0:03Hello, everyone, Welcome to the Millionaire Dentist Podcast, brought to you by
- 0:07four Quadness Advisory. On this podcast, we break down the world of dentistry,
- 0:12finances and business practices to help you become the millionaire dentists you deserve to
- 0:16be. Please be advised we do speak with an honest tongue and may not
- 0:20be safe for work. Hello and welcome. This is Casey Hires back at
- 0:26the Millionaire Dentist Podcast in studio with co host Jared Bridgeman. Casey, how
- 0:30are you doing well? Man? Hey, Happy New Year? Happy New
- 0:34Year? What Larry David and Curve of your Enthusiasm say you up until January
- 0:38seventh? Yeah, you can say Happy New Year, but according to Larry
- 0:41David, after that, it's done pass. We're over and done with now.
- 0:44We took a week off between Christmas and New Year's which is really nice
- 0:49thing that our bosses let us do. Did you have a good have a
- 0:53good time off? Good break? Stephen Covey's book Seven Habits of Highly Effective
- 0:58People Rule numbers, Evan's one of my favorite. Keep your axe sharp.
- 1:03I've mentioned this before, but if you're trying to chop down a tree and
- 1:06your axe is dull. You can be chopping and sweating and exhausted and not
- 1:08effective. If you stop to sharpen and shine your axe and get some electro
- 1:14likes, you're going to be more effective. That. It's a long way
- 1:17to say. Ten days off was excellent. I need really melked it day.
- 1:23The day we were supposed to come back, you walked in one second
- 1:25before you know you're supposed to be here. Yeah, no, it was.
- 1:27It was a great break, great time off. What we do for
- 1:30practice owners is a lot and it's serious, and so time off is important.
- 1:38Yeah. It was a great time. Friends, family, rest,
- 1:41food, lots of food, a little bit of booze, adult beverages could
- 1:44be found. Yeah, I had a good break as we all spend time.
- 1:47You know what was nice for us as we go? Ya? Was?
- 1:49I was supposed to ask you, yes, thank you? Just about
- 1:52me? Right, that's right. We are able to knock out all of
- 1:53our Christmas gatherings in one weekend. Nice, which was awesome. But you
- 1:59talk about sharpening the asked me me think of my younger brother. The last
- 2:02couple of times I've gone up to visit my mom and stepdad, my brother
- 2:06has come over with his kid and stuff and my brother. He always brings
- 2:09his own knife sharpener and we'll go through my mom's drawer and sharpen all our
- 2:13knives. That's nice. It's nice, but it's it was like four times
- 2:15last year. It's just funny to see him over the corner sharperdy a knife.
- 2:19It just makes me laugh every time. Yeah, no, I like
- 2:22that. I'll tell you what you know, when you go on break,
- 2:24a lot of times you're just relaxed and you're like, this is great.
- 2:28And so many people are like dreading coming back to work. What I love
- 2:32working. I mean, I don't dread it, but it is nice.
- 2:37But it's also but a couple more days I want to complained about a few
- 2:38more days off, no free times. The Devil's playground too structure. But
- 2:44my point is that that general feeling of oh, it's has been great and
- 2:46I'm so relaxing. I wish I didn't have to go to work. I
- 2:49wish I hit the power ball right or or you know, I'm independently wealthy
- 2:53and didn't have to it didn't have to sort. That's a sentiment out there.
- 2:54Yep. It kind of comes back to even even a campaign. We're
- 2:58working on community of why does so many dentists work so long? Right?
- 3:04Sixty eight, six, sixty eight, seventy, seventy five, eighty five.
- 3:07I mean we just talked him with the Donnis that's eighty eight and just
- 3:09hung it up, like why do they do that when when you know?
- 3:14And I think it's hard to even contemplate that for people who don't know the
- 3:21insides of the dentistry business, you know, to us, let to a
- 3:23layman out there who just goes to the dentist, is like, you're I
- 3:27know, you're making good money, you're making great money. Why are you
- 3:30still here at eighty My grandmother did that, but she worked in a factory,
- 3:35you know what I mean, and making twenty bucks an hour versus well
- 3:38and I you know, I is this the take home for me on this
- 3:40is truly if somebody can retire five or ten years sooner, yeah, that's
- 3:46that's worth looking at, Like how can someone make that happen? And in
- 3:50the world of dentistry, you know, there's an opportunity. You know,
- 3:53if you can make hay and just crush it for you know, fifteen eighteen
- 3:57years, you can be in a position to retire with millions and millions.
- 4:02I mean, it's almost a lottery ticket in itself. They have more money
- 4:06and stop earlier. Yeah, I mean, I mean, it's it's one
- 4:10of those I wish I hit the power ball. But in dentistry, there's
- 4:14a lot of struggles and challenges overhead insurance, not making what you want,
- 4:17there's shame, there's imposter syndrome. There's all these things that dentist deal with
- 4:20that they don't talk about. And of course a lot of that might have
- 4:23been fixed, but you know, they're hindsight is twenty twenty with everything.
- 4:26Yeah. Yeah, But ultimately, mastering the business side of dentistry can put
- 4:30you in a position where you can have an extended Christmas break and be off
- 4:33for the rest of your life if you want to. And again, you
- 4:35can always and take that Christmas break somewhere really nice. Yeah, And you
- 4:40can always go practice dentistry, sure, right, like, oh I miss
- 4:46it, I'm gonna go practice for a day at my study club, buddies
- 4:48practice. But you can't always retire early if you don't do the right things
- 4:55correct and so it's such a reversal. What's your retirement plan. I'm gonna
- 4:59teach and I'm gonna speak, and I'm gonna practice. And it's like,
- 5:00Okay, why don't you just crush dentistry now and retire and then still do
- 5:04those things. But not because you need cash flow, No, because you
- 5:06love it, That's right. So we'll be you get burned out. Yeah
- 5:10by the time you're seventy, are you really want to run around teach?
- 5:13Yeah? Yeah. But I you know, we're gonna be what probably sixty
- 5:15events this year if we look at national meetings, state meetings, study clubs,
- 5:19dental societies, our own events. I think we're rocking about on the
- 5:24tour about sixty this year. And we're gonna be going to the Yankee Dental
- 5:29Congress here at the end of this month. Yeah. That's uh last week
- 5:32of the month, isn't it. Yeah? Yeah yeah, Boston. Uh.
- 5:35And I always joke, you know, Boston in January? Very serious?
- 5:39Why couln't we go to Boca? But boy, but we are going
- 5:43to Boca. We are going to Boca. Yeah, that's right, that's
- 5:45our own event. But you were talking about the Yankee and so I know
- 5:47you're gonna be speaking at the Yankee. Yeah. We do a two hour
- 5:51two hours of CE Saturday the twenty seventh, nine to eleven. If you're
- 5:57in the Northeast and you're going to the Yankee Dental Congress register for or the
- 6:00course code is seven five two s's and Sam l as in Lisa. But
- 6:05yeah, it's two hours on the business side of dentistry. And if you're
- 6:09going to the Yankee absolutely Register, you'll hear things that I can help you.
- 6:13You hear things that might make you a little sick the stomach, but
- 6:15we get we get to it. You know, I've seen you. I've
- 6:17seen you speak a few times now, and it's it's just it's mind boggling
- 6:25to see what what we speak about, what you talk about, and how
- 6:29much that resonates with so many people from all over the country. Yeah,
- 6:32about every third third one somebody goes, acy, did you look at my
- 6:38how did you get access to my profit and lost statement, my balance sheet,
- 6:41my taxes? And how do you know that? I am frustrated by
- 6:45all this? Yeah? And it's and the thing is that it's a frustration
- 6:48is that a lot of people feel. But the ones that come up and
- 6:51talk to you are the ones that realize, you know, I think I
- 6:55do need help. And we talk to people that make four hundred, five
- 6:57hundred, six hundred, We've talked to people that make a million dollars in
- 7:00dentistry or in orthodontia, and they're still frustrated. Right, So so many
- 7:05times people think, well, if I can just make this or do the
- 7:09mastering the business side and the tax it's hard, it's difficult, and so
- 7:12wherever you're at, it can be better, you can make more. Again,
- 7:15we can't help everybody, right, We'd love to have more conversations with
- 7:19practice owners because if we can help you, we're going to show you.
- 7:23But yeah, we'll be in Boca this month doing our own event. We'll
- 7:26be at the Yankee, which is a nice one, a nice opportunity for
- 7:29folks to hear us. And yeah, we'll be doing these podcasts weekly this
- 7:33year in twenty twenty four. I'd also like to bring up we're as going
- 7:35to be in San Antonio soon in February doing doing two different events there as
- 7:41well. And then following up with that, we're going to be in Tampa,
- 7:45Florida, and Nashville, Tennessee, and we only go to the best
- 7:48venues, That's right, I mean like no joke. We find whatever city
- 7:53we're going, we find the three top places that are like you know,
- 7:57you take somebody on a tenure or twenty year anniversary, that's the venue that
- 8:00we go to. The subject matter we could present it at to Bob Evans
- 8:03and we can still help people. I mean, we're starting this year off
- 8:07strong. We're going to be out there and we're going to be talking,
- 8:09and we're going to be trying to help you know, as many people as
- 8:13we can get our hands on that that are that that can work with us.
- 8:16Well, it's ironic. We're going to sixty places. We want to
- 8:18talk to as many dinnis as we can, but we vet them out right
- 8:22and we we don't take near near as many as we say no to I.
- 8:26But that the point is, let's see if we can help you.
- 8:28Yeah, and if we can, we'll show you. And if we can't
- 8:31or it doesn't make sense or it's not a good fit, we're the first
- 8:33to tell people about it. You know. The worst case scenario coming to
- 8:37one of one of your speaking events and one of these types of things is
- 8:41you learn, oh shoot, maybe I need to talk to my accountant,
- 8:45maybe I need to talk to my my finance guy. Oh yeah, you'll
- 8:48learn. I'll give some tips. Hey, if we never talk again,
- 8:50here's some things you need to demand from your current external team to get better.
- 8:54So we're good and some of those things. I know. We have
- 8:58a couple plans and podcasts coming up. We're going to have a Kevin Rton
- 9:03in here as well, who's one of our really awesome CPAs. And so
- 9:07I'm really really excited about us coming out of the gate and really trying to
- 9:11help as many people as we can just on the podcast alone, like you
- 9:15and I help in talking advice, public service announcements, things that your accountant
- 9:20maybe should be telling you that they're not. We're going to be doing more
- 9:22of that this year, trying to get some information if your account. If
- 9:24your account is not telling us telling you it's okay to eat the yellow snow,
- 9:28it's time to move on on that note. No, Casey, thank
- 9:33you so much for stopping by. Folks. If you're interested in coming to
