- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Meat Eater podcast or broadcasting. We're not broadcasting.
- 0:05Speaker 1: We're recording in Napa Valley, California. And where where I'm
- 0:12Speaker 1: drinking the cours drinking a Coors and Napa Valley, California.
- 0:17Speaker 1: But but I'm here with um J Honese. Tell us
- 0:22Speaker 1: he's drinking himself some red wine. Is that the fancy
- 0:25Speaker 1: red wine we just got drinking very fancy red wine.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Mike wash Leski drinking very fancy red wine. Last night
- 0:32Speaker 1: he was drinking beam and coke, which is very not fancy.
- 0:37Speaker 1: He's not drinking fancy red wine. We're in nap because
- 0:40Speaker 1: we're hunting. Uh, this isn't what we're talking about tonight.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But we're in nap because we're here hunting turkeys. And
- 0:47Speaker 1: this morning, Um, I killed the UH world's most biggest
- 0:57Speaker 1: cage ist while he unkillable turkey to have ever graced
- 1:04Speaker 1: God's green Earth? Would you agree with that? You know? Yes?
- 1:11Speaker 1: For real? Rio Grande turkeys, cag turkey, kg Rio Grande turkey.
- 1:17Speaker 1: This turkey, I don't love how, I don't know how
- 1:21Speaker 1: much I want to get into this, just so it
- 1:25Speaker 1: was it was a cool turkey hunt. Oh it's it's
- 1:27Speaker 1: what it's textbook, it's what you want. We didn't get
- 1:30Speaker 1: to waltson there call him right in off the ruse.
- 1:33Speaker 1: We had to set up on him three different times.
- 1:35Speaker 1: He gave us the old loop de lube. You know.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We decided to change positions. Next time we call, he
- 1:41Speaker 1: gobbled from literally probably standing where you were sitting next
- 1:45Speaker 1: to that. Yeah, I'll I keep trying to prevent myself
- 1:50Speaker 1: from getting into talking about this turkey much. We're gonna
- 1:52Speaker 1: talk about something different, but um, this turkey man. I
- 1:56Speaker 1: was calling him, and every time I call, he just gobbled,
- 1:59Speaker 1: you know. And that gives you a power trip as
- 2:02Speaker 1: a turkey caller, because turkeys all they do is manipulate you.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And when you realize that you're manipulating a turkey, you
- 2:09Speaker 1: can't help yourself but not do it. It would be
- 2:13Speaker 1: like if you push the button, you know, and and
- 2:18Speaker 1: some machine, I don't want to say inflated you, but
- 2:22Speaker 1: some machine gave you a BackRub. Right, you keep pushing
- 2:26Speaker 1: the damn button and when you got a time, that's
- 2:29Speaker 1: just gobbling like mad. Every time you call. You call
- 2:32Speaker 1: too much. So we finally decided to move and maybe
- 2:36Speaker 1: we can call him in a different direction, or maybe
- 2:38Speaker 1: there's something hanging him up that we can't tell what's
- 2:40Speaker 1: hanging him up. And we move, and that that prevented
- 2:45Speaker 1: me from calling for fifteen minutes. So I'm silent for
- 2:50Speaker 1: fifteen minutes. By the time we move and get set
- 2:52Speaker 1: up again, and I call that gobbler calls. They yeah,
- 2:56Speaker 1: from like probably right where I was had been sitting
- 2:58Speaker 1: the whole time, because he got to be like, I
- 3:01Speaker 1: can't believe that Hen Gobbler, or that I can't leave
- 3:04Speaker 1: that Hen turkey is ignoring me, and he went down there.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So then I proceeded to call to him again too much,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and eventually started checking my watch and trying to make
- 3:15Speaker 1: myself let ten minutes go by without calling. And then
- 3:19Speaker 1: that turkey showed up and he got shot, big old
- 3:24Speaker 1: long spurs, one of them was busted off. The honest
- 3:28Speaker 1: was jealous inch and a half plus thick basses. He
- 3:34Speaker 1: was a warrior. You know. We're joined by Mike wash
- 3:38Speaker 1: Leski of the Texas Coal Hunters Association. I know so
- 3:42Speaker 1: little about Texas hunting that I thought that was a
- 3:44Speaker 1: real sticker. No, yeah, I mean it's a real sticker.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It's a real t shirt. Explain, um, try to explain
- 3:54Speaker 1: why that's funny. The Texas Call Hunters Association is a
- 4:00Speaker 1: mean I got it from a buddy of mine who
- 4:01Speaker 1: I go hunting with, and it's might means yeah, yeah,
- 4:07Speaker 1: in an apartment still yeah, drinking beer and uh you know,
- 4:12Speaker 1: showing up at the appointed time and uh, you know,
- 4:16Speaker 1: seeing what shows up. So yeah, you know, I mean
- 4:21Speaker 1: that's that's what's afforded to me. So I take advantage
- 4:23Speaker 1: of it. And uh so the the Texas Coal Hunters
- 4:26Speaker 1: Association is it's not really an association. It's more of
- 4:30Speaker 1: a response to all the guys with pickup trucks that
- 4:33Speaker 1: have you know, these stickers like what is the trophy trophy,
- 4:37Speaker 1: you know, trophy hunting Texas. Yeah, well, I'm sure there
- 4:43Speaker 1: are a bunch of nice guys, but it's more of
- 4:45Speaker 1: about the you know, it's you can't eat the antlers,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and it's a response to the fact that you know,
- 4:52Speaker 1: some people hunt for the meat and even though we
- 4:55Speaker 1: do it, you know in our looking Yeah, yeah, well
- 4:59Speaker 1: I mean it is yeah, you know, you know, it's
- 5:01Speaker 1: it's for us. And where I go in Rock Spring, Texas,
- 5:04Speaker 1: it's it's game management and you know, it's not I'm
- 5:08Speaker 1: not allowed to shoot the bucks that show up. So
- 5:10Speaker 1: it's just this giantees. You know, they're constantly rolling in there,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and it's just like, wow, that guy is gonna be
- 5:14Speaker 1: great a couple of years and that guy is really great.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And so how can you determine who's a cold buck? Uh? Well,
- 5:20Speaker 1: it's based on the biologist comes out to the my
- 5:24Speaker 1: buddies place, who has is a you know, has a
- 5:26Speaker 1: share in this like eight thousand acres and so they
- 5:31Speaker 1: just want to bring people up to speed. So let's
- 5:35Speaker 1: say you got a chunk of ground. You're trying to
- 5:37Speaker 1: manage it because you want big, huge bucks, right, Um,
- 5:44Speaker 1: so you tell dudes who are hunting out there not
- 5:47Speaker 1: to shoot the box because you want them to grow
- 5:48Speaker 1: up to be big. But cold buck and I don't
- 5:52Speaker 1: really I understand. It's a little bit. But Mikeson explained
- 5:54Speaker 1: great detail. A cold buck would be a buck that you, um,
- 5:59Speaker 1: you're selecting out. You're doing like selective breeding like a
- 6:02Speaker 1: farmer rancher might. Yes, you know, like you got a
- 6:06Speaker 1: buck with bad some kind of undesirable characteristic, right, like
- 6:10Speaker 1: he'll have not a symmetrical rack, or he could be um,
- 6:15Speaker 1: you know, five or six years old with only you know,
- 6:18Speaker 1: two forks like thick base but just like nothing that's
- 6:20Speaker 1: you know, special, and they hang a tag on these
- 6:24Speaker 1: ones or something. No, no no, there's no tax. Nobody's nobody's
- 6:26Speaker 1: actually tracking the animals. The biologist doesn't fly by an
- 6:30Speaker 1: he looks at the health of the herd and stuff.
- 6:32Speaker 1: He's like, you need to take this much from this
- 6:33Speaker 1: parcel of land as far as like this many does.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And so I'm not a family member, so I don't
- 6:38Speaker 1: get to hunt the bucks. They get to you know,
- 6:41Speaker 1: they get to you know, if they want to, they
- 6:43Speaker 1: can go out there and they're a lot of just
- 6:45Speaker 1: based on the population, you know, you can take this
- 6:47Speaker 1: many mature bucks. And so they you know, that's for
- 6:50Speaker 1: you know, their family, you know, I guess higher level
- 6:52Speaker 1: family friends and you know family members and stuff. But
- 6:55Speaker 1: so I said, now, I mean I go out there
- 6:57Speaker 1: and I help work to lant and stuff, and I
- 6:59Speaker 1: get to take his you know, my allotment of does
- 7:02Speaker 1: so well this you're sitting out there and shut that's
- 7:05Speaker 1: different property. Yeah, that's that's my dad's friends, uh place
- 7:10Speaker 1: in junction, and that that is that is entirely different.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I mean, that guy doesn't even haunt. Let's just just
- 7:16Speaker 1: go out there and you know, see what kind of
- 7:18Speaker 1: wildlife is around. But you know that you're able to
- 7:22Speaker 1: make the call on what's a cold buck well. I mean,
- 7:24Speaker 1: there's if they trust you to be like, oh, that
- 7:26Speaker 1: one's not symmetrical. Well, they have game camps and you're like,
- 7:29Speaker 1: well this guy right here, look for this dude. You know,
- 7:31Speaker 1: they're like, they're kind of inspecting them and stuff. They're
- 7:33Speaker 1: like and and I'm terrible at what is it aging
- 7:38Speaker 1: on the hoof? Right? I mean? Is that the term
- 7:40Speaker 1: and stuff feel right? And so I feel, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I never really feel um, you know, comfortable. I'm like,
- 7:46Speaker 1: because you know, I'm like, well, that guy, you know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: he's the wrong shade of brown. I should probably shoot him.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And that's not necessarily the right thing to do, So
- 7:54Speaker 1: you know, I always feel really just real tentative about
- 7:57Speaker 1: even doing that. And I had an opportunity this past year,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and then three elk run run and and scared everything away.
- 8:01Speaker 1: The one I was about to take. Yeah, yeah, three
- 8:05Speaker 1: they were yeah, and they thought that they had gone
- 8:07Speaker 1: off the property, but they I guess there's a you know, flourished,
- 8:10Speaker 1: not I wouldn't say flourishing, but a small population that
- 8:14Speaker 1: is starting to grow. So they're trying to help them out.
- 8:17Speaker 1: So yeah, those are definitely off limits. But um so,
- 8:20Speaker 1: I mean dear to shoot this year in Texas. I
- 8:24Speaker 1: think three dolls November. But I have a feeling though,
- 8:29Speaker 1: just to speak to his Cold U Hunters Association, that
- 8:33Speaker 1: it could help you get more hunting rights or access
- 8:37Speaker 1: at some point. Right it's like cast around. They're like, yeah,
- 8:41Speaker 1: this guy likes to just come out and shoot. Does
- 8:43Speaker 1: like me. Someone might say, Oh, nobody in our family
- 8:47Speaker 1: does that, you know, you know, well, I mean my
- 8:49Speaker 1: buddy was just he was like, I'm I'm tired of
- 8:52Speaker 1: having to shoot all these deer and cleaning myself. And
- 8:54Speaker 1: so you know, he's he's brought his friends, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 1: out for the past couple of years, and so you know,
- 8:58Speaker 1: I help, you know, with with you know, taking care
- 9:01Speaker 1: of the you know, the water and uh we build
- 9:04Speaker 1: like you know, rain cashment systems for the livestock and
- 9:06Speaker 1: or the agg exemptions and stuff, and you know kind
- 9:09Speaker 1: of take care of the lot of the the you know,
- 9:11Speaker 1: the animals and what we can do just in general
- 9:13Speaker 1: to help him out throughout the year. Especially they've had
- 9:15Speaker 1: some really bad drought for the past couple of years,
- 9:18Speaker 1: so it's you know, they're just getting kind of hammered
- 9:19Speaker 1: and just helping them with protein and stuff like that
- 9:21Speaker 1: so that they can sustain through the really hard times.
- 9:24Speaker 1: So you know, in that situation, he just got tired
- 9:26Speaker 1: of being the only guy in his family that really
- 9:28Speaker 1: hunted and had to manage the property because they just
- 9:31Speaker 1: hit the rest of his family members just come out
- 9:32Speaker 1: there and just like oh yeah, that buck right there
- 9:35Speaker 1: and bam, you know, as opposed to like, you know,
- 9:37Speaker 1: putting the time in through the rest of the year
- 9:39Speaker 1: to you know, do all the the hard work, you know.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And uh so, yeah, that's kind of where that's that's
- 9:45Speaker 1: why I do. I mean, you know, it puts meat
- 9:47Speaker 1: and my freezer, and you know, we don't we don't
- 9:50Speaker 1: walk anywhere. We take a plaris and roll up there,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and i'd i'd probably I want to do the same thing. Man.
- 9:57Speaker 1: It's definitely well if I yeah, like if I live
- 9:59Speaker 1: some and the guys like, hey, someone's gonna shoot these deer, Yeah,
- 10:04Speaker 1: you want to come to shoot him and have him right, yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 1: And and that's you know, I mean I don't own property,
- 10:09Speaker 1: and so that's you know, have the least. And so
- 10:11Speaker 1: that's how I landed gentry. Turn from history class. The
- 10:14Speaker 1: landed gentries just passed down through generation, right yeah, and
- 10:18Speaker 1: that's and I don't you know, I'm not afford the opportunity,
- 10:20Speaker 1: so you know, like yeah, come out and poor Mikey
- 10:23Speaker 1: he spends a lot of time running around the woods
- 10:25Speaker 1: an army surplus. Do definitely don't have a big old ranch. Definitely,
- 10:30Speaker 1: don't you know yan Yanni's idea about that? You know,
- 10:34Speaker 1: still this is the still isn't you? Still don't you
- 10:37Speaker 1: listeners still don't know what this podcast is about because
- 10:40Speaker 1: it's not about this. But Yannie had an interesting point
- 10:43Speaker 1: where Texas Coal Hunters Association would be a way you'd
- 10:47Speaker 1: get in on hunting. And it reminds me this dude,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I know, and this isn't what the podcast is about either,
- 10:53Speaker 1: but this dude I know who has started this group
- 10:56Speaker 1: called Backyard bow Bro. If you like in you got
- 11:01Speaker 1: all these people in suburban environments right like bowl only areas,
- 11:06Speaker 1: you know, we can only hunt with a boat, like
- 11:08Speaker 1: for instance, like most of Long Island, New York. Right,
- 11:10Speaker 1: that's not where he's at, but it's a place like
- 11:12Speaker 1: you can bow hunt, you can't go on hunt. So
- 11:15Speaker 1: he started this group where the group you become a
- 11:18Speaker 1: member of Backyard bow Pro. And to become a member
- 11:21Speaker 1: of Backyard bow Pro you gotta go through a background
- 11:23Speaker 1: check and you gotta pass archery proficiency test. So mugs
- 11:29Speaker 1: who have problems with white tailed deer and their orchards
- 11:33Speaker 1: or in their gardens whatever and wish they could get
- 11:36Speaker 1: rid of some white tailed deer call Backyard bow Pro
- 11:40Speaker 1: and get teamed up with a dude who is like
- 11:44Speaker 1: a reputable guy who's demonstrated proficiency with his boat, so
- 11:49Speaker 1: he's been vetted to take care of the in a
- 11:53Speaker 1: crank it out on deer hunting permissions. Northering they do
- 11:58Speaker 1: is they got people who don't and won't hunt, and
- 12:01Speaker 1: they'll go out and get the place right the permission
- 12:05Speaker 1: hunt deer caught up some of the deer, bring the
- 12:08Speaker 1: landowner venison to try. Then they use it also for
- 12:14Speaker 1: fundraiser stuff. They keep some they give us on the
- 12:17Speaker 1: food banks, but they'll bring in like they don't bring it.
- 12:22Speaker 1: They'll go get the stuff processed and bring ready to
- 12:25Speaker 1: eat processed meat to places, you know, and give up.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And then they've had people who are like, I've always
- 12:32Speaker 1: hated hunters, you know, blah blah blah. I can't like,
- 12:35Speaker 1: I never knew how'd be in this situation and now
- 12:38Speaker 1: like they're eating venison off their own land. How long
- 12:42Speaker 1: have they been around? Years? Yeah, I don't think a decade,
- 12:46Speaker 1: but I mean I've I've known him for several years.
- 12:49Speaker 1: He's been doing it, and he was doing it when
- 12:50Speaker 1: I met him. That's interesting, that sounds I mean, that's
- 12:53Speaker 1: just a good idea. Was Dude's name is Joe Lasher.
- 12:58Speaker 1: He's out of North Carolina. Awesome nicer. Now, oh that, No,
- 13:04Speaker 1: before you tell the listeners what the podcast is gonna
- 13:06Speaker 1: be about, let's get a quick break. Yanni's so good
- 13:11Speaker 1: at announcing those brakes. You're back with the Meat Eator podcast.
- 13:19Speaker 1: What we're doing. We did. This is the second one
- 13:21Speaker 1: of these. We didn't and people liked it. Man, it
- 13:23Speaker 1: was popular, and I liked it because, um, it brings
- 13:27Speaker 1: up a lot of great things to discuss. Is like,
- 13:31Speaker 1: because of the TV show Meat Eater and various other
- 13:33Speaker 1: things like web stuff and social media stuff. There's questions
- 13:36Speaker 1: that come in all the time where guys have questions
- 13:38Speaker 1: about honey, and they're varied. It's everything like have you
- 13:42Speaker 1: ever eaten uh koala? Bear to these like really deep
- 13:47Speaker 1: ethical questions, and and it's funny because you see the
- 13:50Speaker 1: same ones come in versions of the same ones come
- 13:54Speaker 1: in over and over and over again. So it gives
- 13:57Speaker 1: you like a really targeted way hus you meaning me,
- 14:01Speaker 1: a really targeted way to have a discussion about hunting
- 14:06Speaker 1: that is specifically addressing questions that people have all the time.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I got this gigantic list of questions. For instance, there's
- 14:16Speaker 1: two people have asked I'm I'm just giving you for
- 14:22Speaker 1: instance of what kind of questions flowing. So just recently,
- 14:25Speaker 1: two different people I'm assuming they don't know each other,
- 14:27Speaker 1: wrote in to ask about eating groundhogs. You know, so
- 14:33Speaker 1: that's like, for whatever reason, eating groundhogs is on people's mind.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I've never eaten one. I've killed a couple for for
- 14:42Speaker 1: the bounty, meaning bounty. Like when I was a kid,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I would do some contract I guess almost like contract
- 14:50Speaker 1: assassinations of animals. People would have problems with an animal,
- 14:54Speaker 1: and I would charge them to go get it damage control,
- 14:56Speaker 1: animal damage control. And I remember one time I did
- 15:00Speaker 1: a groundhog and got fifteen bucks for it and took
- 15:04Speaker 1: it out camping. We were going out soccer fishing and camping,
- 15:07Speaker 1: and I took my groundhog with me um because I
- 15:11Speaker 1: thought we'd eat it, and we never ate it. And
- 15:13Speaker 1: I'm ashamed to say now that groundhog went to waste,
- 15:16Speaker 1: that it's got my cash for him in life, you
- 15:17Speaker 1: guys never eating ground hug never. No, there's no reason.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I'm just gonna dispatch a bunch of these questions right
- 15:26Speaker 1: now and just say like people are like people always
- 15:29Speaker 1: ask like is blank edible? To answer is yes, I
- 15:33Speaker 1: don't think there's any there's no bird that's not edible.
- 15:37Speaker 1: You know, there's no inedible bird. I don't think there's
- 15:41Speaker 1: an inedible mammal. Is there anything that's poisonous? Like, I
- 15:47Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know what people mean when they
- 15:48Speaker 1: ask if it's edible, good is it? Is it worth?
- 15:54Speaker 1: But that's not what I think when I think edible,
- 15:56Speaker 1: Like somebody will be like be like, hey, how's that
- 15:59Speaker 1: new restaurant, Like, oh, it's edible. That means like the
- 16:02Speaker 1: restaurant sucked or it was mediocre, But when people say, like,
- 16:05Speaker 1: is a groundhog edible? I just saying is it delicious?
- 16:10Speaker 1: Or will you die after eating it? You know, that's
- 16:13Speaker 1: a good point. It might be one of each. If
- 16:16Speaker 1: we have two questions that came in. One person might
- 16:18Speaker 1: be asking about the taste, and you know, they might
- 16:20Speaker 1: be asking if they're gonna die if they eat it.
- 16:22Speaker 1: It carries diseases. I think that's on people's mind a
- 16:25Speaker 1: lot of times while game. You know, yeah, there's that
- 16:28Speaker 1: stigma of like, hey, it's wild, I could have some
- 16:32Speaker 1: bad had stuff going on. The groundhogs a member of
- 16:35Speaker 1: the squirrel family. I've eating other members of the squirrel family.
- 16:38Speaker 1: There's nothing gonna be wrong in the groundhog. But you
- 16:41Speaker 1: just have to ask yourself, like, if you're gonna go
- 16:44Speaker 1: eat a groundhog or a skunk or fox or whatever,
- 16:49Speaker 1: what are you hoping to get out of it? If
- 16:51Speaker 1: you're hoping to get out of it that it tastes good,
- 16:55Speaker 1: good being food in a popular restaurant. If it's gonna
- 17:04Speaker 1: be that good, you've probably heard of people eating it
- 17:10Speaker 1: to a degree. If you mean good, as in, will
- 17:14Speaker 1: you be glad about the experience and having satisfied your
- 17:18Speaker 1: curiosity and having a sort of enhanced understanding of food
- 17:22Speaker 1: and wildlife and all that kind of stuff. Then yeah,
- 17:26Speaker 1: it's gonna be great. It's like, what's the worst that's
- 17:29Speaker 1: gonna happen to you? It's just you don't like it.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It's so you cook the groundhog and then you eat
- 17:39Speaker 1: some and you're like, hey, that's about as bad as
- 17:42Speaker 1: I think I could get. All right, well then, but
- 17:44Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of people listening to this
- 17:46Speaker 1: are probably saying their heads, we're out loud. That groundhogs,
- 17:51Speaker 1: you know, those big colonies, what do you call them?
- 17:53Speaker 1: They No, you're thinking prairie dog. Oh so they're thinking
- 17:58Speaker 1: like groundhogs chucks got all right, but let's flip it over.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Let's flip it over the prairie dogs. I cleaned the
- 18:08Speaker 1: prairie dog ones, right, but they're going to carry the plague. Ye,
- 18:11Speaker 1: so squirrel, so squirrel, So he's gotta cook it, right, Yeah,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you're not gonna get the plague from eating it. Hand.
- 18:21Speaker 1: I would sleep with it under my covers. It's dead
- 18:24Speaker 1: carcass under my covers. Solve it's mites are jumping off
- 18:27Speaker 1: and like making homes in my hair. No, if that's
- 18:29Speaker 1: what you mean by edible. No, no, dude, seriously, the
- 18:35Speaker 1: groundhog thing I've eaten murde that movie Unforgiven. Yeah, in
- 18:44Speaker 1: the end when uh Clint Ease with his character is
- 18:47Speaker 1: gonna kill a little bill and little bills like, oh,
- 18:50Speaker 1: you're just you've been killing women and children, And Clint
- 18:53Speaker 1: eas was like, you know, I've killed everything that's ever
- 18:55Speaker 1: walked or crawled. I've eaten most evidence walked or crawled somehow,
- 18:59Speaker 1: I miss I haven't. I haven't eaten a ground hug yet. Well,
- 19:02Speaker 1: now curious, Yeah, you're telling me exactly what's gonna taste like. Man,
- 19:13Speaker 1: it's gonna taste like I don't know, beaver without the castor.
- 19:20Speaker 1: It can't be too far from beaver. It's gonna be
- 19:21Speaker 1: like beaver, but sometimes beaver meat, which I'm a fan
- 19:25Speaker 1: of and which is good, very edible, It's great. Who
- 19:30Speaker 1: was just raping about that? Did you serve it to
- 19:32Speaker 1: your mother in law? Brian Callen? Brian cant the funny Brian,
- 19:35Speaker 1: the very funny and beautiful Brian Callen? Who? Who? How
- 19:45Speaker 1: do I put it? I just I saw him in
- 19:47Speaker 1: his um fullness, in the act of urinating up. I
- 19:56Speaker 1: thought you're gonna plug his comedy. That's not He in
- 20:00Speaker 1: the middle of of urinating and came up to show me, um,
- 20:05Speaker 1: let's go on to the next question. Showed us, all, Yanni,
- 20:08Speaker 1: you grab a couple of you like out of here,
- 20:12Speaker 1: I will, Oh, here's one. This kind of stuff comes
- 20:16Speaker 1: in all time. Not to belittle it. It's not belittling it,
- 20:19Speaker 1: it's complimenting it. I've been looking to take my son
- 20:21Speaker 1: on a hunting trip, was wanting to options on. I
- 20:23Speaker 1: would like to take him either bear or moose hunting,
- 20:27Speaker 1: but he had the mortgage's house to afford it. Could
- 20:29Speaker 1: I recommend an outfitter that's reasonable in price? Or where
- 20:36Speaker 1: would you go on the public hunt? You know, I
- 20:39Speaker 1: can't recommend you outfit it's reasonable in price. The outfitters
- 20:43Speaker 1: that I'm friends with, the handful of outfitters that I'm
- 20:46Speaker 1: friends with, the handful of outfitters that I would say, like, man,
- 20:49Speaker 1: you ought to go hunting with that dude? Are are
- 20:52Speaker 1: are are very very very expensive. They're very good, and
- 20:56Speaker 1: they're very expensive. And I think I kind of know
- 20:59Speaker 1: them and become ends with them because maybe I, you know,
- 21:02Speaker 1: I have friends that admire them, or I admire their
- 21:06Speaker 1: their work ethic and their skill set, you know, on
- 21:10Speaker 1: their knowledge and what they bring to it, and all
- 21:14Speaker 1: that stuff costs tons of money. I don't know, I no,
- 21:22Speaker 1: the guys that know are just super expensive. But it's
- 21:24Speaker 1: like they're super expensive because they're so good, you know.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And there's people that do cookie cutter stuff like I think,
- 21:30Speaker 1: if you want to go on a cheap bear hunt,
- 21:32Speaker 1: you go to these sort of almost like black bear
- 21:34Speaker 1: hunt factories up in Canada where they're running a bazillion
- 21:39Speaker 1: bear baits, you know, and they'll load up like a
- 21:42Speaker 1: van full of hunters and take you all out and
- 21:46Speaker 1: drop you off at this like spacing on Crown Lands,
- 21:50Speaker 1: Government Lands. You know, they drop one of you every
- 21:52Speaker 1: five miles and you're going to hunt a bear bait,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and then when you get done, you walk out to
- 21:57Speaker 1: the road and then you might be sitting there two
- 21:59Speaker 1: hours while they come and pick you all back up
- 22:02Speaker 1: again and bring you back to eat spaghetti and meatballs.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Those are cheap. I would just do your own hunt, man,
- 22:08Speaker 1: because it's like you're saying you want to go on
- 22:12Speaker 1: a hunt with your son, which is fantastic, man, But
- 22:15Speaker 1: I bet you your kid, like your kid would want
- 22:17Speaker 1: to get something, but your kid also probably wants to
- 22:19Speaker 1: be with as old man and like a comfortable environment,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you know. And if you're going on on I out
- 22:25Speaker 1: fit it hunt, you don't know what's up. I mean,
- 22:27Speaker 1: you don't know what kind of environment it's gonna be
- 22:29Speaker 1: for your kids. That's what I would think with my son.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Like if my son's four and a half, so he's
- 22:34Speaker 1: all the fish, but he's not on enough to hunt,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know. And I just took my son to my
- 22:38Speaker 1: brothers to fish, and we we I took my son
- 22:41Speaker 1: to mild City to fish with my brother and my
- 22:43Speaker 1: brother lives. And this isn't like a big romanic hunt.
- 22:46Speaker 1: We're fishing small small mouth catfish, small walleye sager. Right,
- 22:55Speaker 1: A four fish day is a good day. He caught
- 22:58Speaker 1: four fish one day, he caught a couple of our day,
- 23:01Speaker 1: caught it one the other day. He had a blast
- 23:04Speaker 1: because he's with me, he's with my brother, Everyone around
- 23:08Speaker 1: him loves him. We go at his own pace. You know.
- 23:12Speaker 1: If i'd have if i'd have flown him somewhere and
- 23:15Speaker 1: like speaking of fishing, like I'm like, oh, we're gonna
- 23:17Speaker 1: go somewhere and catch it. Blue Marlin. I don't think
- 23:19Speaker 1: it would. I don't know that what it would have
- 23:21Speaker 1: meant to him, because little kids. I don't know how
- 23:24Speaker 1: old your kid is. Yeah, I was gonna say, I
- 23:26Speaker 1: was just looking at this question. He might, for all,
- 23:30Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I'm answering it. I'm so myopic, man,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I'm only answering it from the perspective of having a
- 23:36Speaker 1: little kid. But you're probably if you're looking to take
- 23:38Speaker 1: him hunting, he might. He's an older than mine. But
- 23:40Speaker 1: the point being, I guess part of the point being
- 23:42Speaker 1: that I did. Kids feed off your own excitement. Yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 1: you know, and they could tell when they're being They
- 23:49Speaker 1: could tell when they're being be asked. You know, I
- 23:53Speaker 1: got an answer for him. He's in Iowa, he's not
- 23:55Speaker 1: that far to drive out west. You're gonna a real answer. Yeah, moose,
- 24:00Speaker 1: it's definitely gonna be more expensive than a bear hunt.
- 24:03Speaker 1: But you know what I want to interrupt, Go ahead,
- 24:06Speaker 1: put in what's not expensive is like, if you're in Iowa,
- 24:11Speaker 1: put in for a couple of the western state moose hunts,
- 24:13Speaker 1: are put in for the main New Hampshire moose hunts. Yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 1: it's too much of a long shot. I recommend I'm
- 24:20Speaker 1: talking about has to mortgage his house. You don't really
- 24:24Speaker 1: have to. You just have to plan like we've Like
- 24:27Speaker 1: you said it before. It's what's important. Everybody, you know,
- 24:30Speaker 1: can find money in their budget to go hunting if
- 24:33Speaker 1: they want to plan a hunt five years from now,
- 24:36Speaker 1: hopefully everybody's still able enough to go hunting and do
- 24:39Speaker 1: that hunt and put away whatever it takes five bucks,
- 24:43Speaker 1: you know, a hundred bucks a month for the next
- 24:46Speaker 1: five years, and you will be on a fantastic hunt.
- 24:49Speaker 1: A bet. Yeah, that's true. That's like I'm gonna start
- 24:53Speaker 1: a business where I come in and audit people's life
- 24:56Speaker 1: in order to find them more money to go hunting with.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I'll just come in and look at how you spend
- 25:03Speaker 1: you know, what would you call that need you catching?
- 25:06Speaker 1: Then Steve's money finding service Hunt, Steve's hunting money finding service.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Maybe you got like a pool, a backyard pool, but
- 25:17Speaker 1: let's sell. Let's fill that pool in getting money. And
- 25:20Speaker 1: I feel like as far as I worked for a
- 25:22Speaker 1: couple of different outfitters, and the Elk outfit or that
- 25:25Speaker 1: worked for, we had a very affordable hunt. I felt like,
- 25:29Speaker 1: especially for the quality that they got, I don't know
- 25:32Speaker 1: if that's the norm out there to get the quality
- 25:34Speaker 1: of cooks and guides and service that we gave for
- 25:37Speaker 1: an archery hunt for twenty dollars. But I feel like outfitters,
- 25:42Speaker 1: if you're just trying to if you're trying to get
- 25:43Speaker 1: a bargain, you're probably gonna get that in return in
- 25:47Speaker 1: your you know, in the service that you get. It's
- 25:49Speaker 1: gonna be a little bit of a bargain. You know,
- 25:51Speaker 1: it's not gonna be you're not getting the the top
- 25:54Speaker 1: quality stuff. So if you're gonna drive out for a
- 25:57Speaker 1: moose hunt or a bear hunt, you know, again, stave
- 25:59Speaker 1: with just a little bit more money, dude, and do
- 26:01Speaker 1: some research. It's not that hard these days the internet.
- 26:04Speaker 1: You know, call references, call people that have been there
- 26:08Speaker 1: and hunted, get some names and numbers, ask about the guides.
- 26:14Speaker 1: You know what else, be a good idea ask yourself.
- 26:16Speaker 1: If you're interested in hunting cow moves, there you go.
- 26:20Speaker 1: You might wind up getting a way bargain, a way
- 26:24Speaker 1: bargain deal and you might be able to go at
- 26:26Speaker 1: an off season time, or if you're willing to do
- 26:28Speaker 1: a spike hunt. There's a lot of moose hunts they're like, uh,
- 26:32Speaker 1: you know, they're like like in a in a turn,
- 26:35Speaker 1: Mic could understand their coal hunts, go out and do
- 26:39Speaker 1: spike you know, spike fork moves to a cow hunt.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Because a lot of times when you buy, when you
- 26:45Speaker 1: do a hunt, like a lot of times what you're
- 26:47Speaker 1: when you see an expensive hunt, like for instance, it's
- 26:49Speaker 1: a dream of mine to go hunt stone sheep someday
- 26:53Speaker 1: you see stone sheep hunts, or what you're paying for
- 26:57Speaker 1: is this tag because the guy, the outfitter, gets like
- 27:02Speaker 1: two or three of these tags every year. So if
- 27:04Speaker 1: you want to go on a stone sheep hunt, you're
- 27:06Speaker 1: not paying Like you're not paying for the guiding service.
- 27:09Speaker 1: You're buying a tag from a guy that's expensive. When
- 27:13Speaker 1: you see a twenty dollar elk hunt, it's not that
- 27:16Speaker 1: the guide is like giving you massages and stuff. It's
- 27:18Speaker 1: like you're buying a very expensive tag. Kind of that's
- 27:23Speaker 1: a way to think about it. So if you're willing
- 27:25Speaker 1: to go and hunt in an area that doesn't produce
- 27:28Speaker 1: big bears, it's going to be cheaper. If you're willing
- 27:31Speaker 1: to do a cow hunt or or a spike fork
- 27:35Speaker 1: bull moose hunt, you're gonna be saving all that tag money.
- 27:39Speaker 1: You know, all right, what's my take on environmental issues.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I'm an environmentalist. I mean generally, I'm always on the
- 27:51Speaker 1: side of the environment. That's why I'm a political unich Man,
- 27:55Speaker 1: because I feel like you have we have a we
- 28:00Speaker 1: have one political party that seems willing to piss away
- 28:08Speaker 1: certain hunting rights and piss away gun rights, and we
- 28:11Speaker 1: have another political party that in general seems willing to
- 28:18Speaker 1: piss on our hunting and fishing lands. It's hard man like,
- 28:22Speaker 1: like if if yeah, I'm an environmentalist, I don't want
- 28:28Speaker 1: and it's now you're suppose. Now it's like you're painted
- 28:30Speaker 1: as a radical if you want clean air and clean
- 28:33Speaker 1: water and good hunting and fishing lands, It's like, oh,
- 28:35Speaker 1: these radical communists who don't think we should poison the water.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I'm just like, yeah, I like clean air, clean water.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I like wildlife. I think that wildlife is worth being
- 28:49Speaker 1: It's like worth enough to warrant being inconvenienced by I
- 28:56Speaker 1: remember it. I just recently reread elderly Upholds Sand County Almanac,
- 29:01Speaker 1: and he has a line in there and he's talking
- 29:03Speaker 1: about this guy that wrote Spook in the forties. He
- 29:06Speaker 1: has a line in there where he's talking about um
- 29:12Speaker 1: that like that the country has become like a hypochondriac
- 29:18Speaker 1: where we're so worried about our economic well being, we're
- 29:24Speaker 1: so fearful of our economic health that we've become incapable
- 29:27Speaker 1: of being healthy, you know, like a hypochondract They can't
- 29:31Speaker 1: be healthy because it's just so worried that something's wrong
- 29:33Speaker 1: with them. You know, I don't think that the right
- 29:37Speaker 1: answer is always what's best for the economy. And I
- 29:41Speaker 1: also am a little bit and and I know, and
- 29:43Speaker 1: I'm familiar with arguments about arguing the economic value of
- 29:47Speaker 1: hunting and fishing, which is tremendous. There's a tremendous economic
- 29:50Speaker 1: value to hunting and fishing and a tremendous economic value
- 29:54Speaker 1: to wildlife. And I can give that argument. I can
- 29:56Speaker 1: make that argument. But I also realized that that are that.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I also realized that it's bigger than It's a bigger
- 30:02Speaker 1: issue than that. If I need to sell you on
- 30:05Speaker 1: having healthy wildlife and having clean air and clean water
- 30:09Speaker 1: based on just financial matters, based on economics, I'm gonna
- 30:14Speaker 1: lose my own argument. It's way bigger than that. It's
- 30:16Speaker 1: way more important than that. No one ever said to me, Uh,
- 30:19Speaker 1: you know, if you take good care of your kids,
- 30:22Speaker 1: you'll make a lot of money. You know, No, taking
- 30:25Speaker 1: a care of your kids cost money. Um, have ever
- 30:31Speaker 1: come across the game animal? What was that one? Sorry? Oh,
- 30:38Speaker 1: here's a good one. How do you deal with really
- 30:40Speaker 1: hardcore anti gun people? We're talking about this today. It
- 30:48Speaker 1: depends on how hardcore. I don't argue. I'll have conversations
- 30:53Speaker 1: with but I don't argue with vegans because you're not
- 30:57Speaker 1: gonna change their mind. If someone comes to me and
- 30:59Speaker 1: they says like, I'm absolutely adamantly opposed to any ownership
- 31:03Speaker 1: of firearms whatsoever. Right, I don't know where I'm gonna get.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I don't know where I'm gonna get. I have some
- 31:13Speaker 1: luck having this discussion with people who have very hypocritical
- 31:19Speaker 1: perspectives on guns, being like that the guns they like
- 31:23Speaker 1: are okay, but the guns that other people like are
- 31:25Speaker 1: not okay. You know that's easy to easy to combat
- 31:32Speaker 1: and I don't. But you know it's funny because I'm
- 31:33Speaker 1: not put up against it as much. I mean, do
- 31:36Speaker 1: you spend you guys spend a lot of time having
- 31:37Speaker 1: like arguments about whether it's okay that you have a
- 31:39Speaker 1: gun or not. No, but we don't. I feel like
- 31:44Speaker 1: I definitely try to defend uh, just generally any kind
- 31:48Speaker 1: of you know, general gun ownership. When people say, all right,
- 31:51Speaker 1: well you have a hunting bolt action rifle, why should
- 31:53Speaker 1: we let anybody have like a rifle that can shoot,
- 31:57Speaker 1: you know, have a fifty round clip on it where
- 31:59Speaker 1: you can just shoot away. Yeah, that was that. That's
- 32:03Speaker 1: like I used to struggle with a lot of these
- 32:06Speaker 1: questions like that. And there's a couple of points people
- 32:08Speaker 1: made to me that help me kind of understand the
- 32:12Speaker 1: issue better. Is that the Second Amendment has absolutely nothing
- 32:19Speaker 1: to do with hunting. Like when they drew that up,
- 32:23Speaker 1: they weren't thinking about protecting your right to go hunting. No,
- 32:26Speaker 1: they had nothing to do with hunt. But then like
- 32:30Speaker 1: some guys are real critical of hunters, was like, like
- 32:36Speaker 1: there's even a term like a fud fud it would
- 32:41Speaker 1: be a dude like you and me that does say
- 32:43Speaker 1: hunts with the bolt action rifle. It's like you're behind
- 32:46Speaker 1: the times, You're like elmer fudd. I think that's I
- 32:49Speaker 1: think that's kind of what that means. Another thing was
- 32:52Speaker 1: when you if people would say, like, oh, you shouldn't
- 32:55Speaker 1: have a high capacity, You shouldn't have an assault rifle, right,
- 33:01Speaker 1: But then other people would look at the rifle I
- 33:03Speaker 1: have and say, well, is it okay that you have
- 33:07Speaker 1: a sniper's rifle? And it is. Man, It's like, I
- 33:13Speaker 1: have rifles that are capable of shooting a thousand yards
- 33:16Speaker 1: in the right hands. So it's like, you got an
- 33:20Speaker 1: assault rifle, you got a sniper's rifle. It's like, I
- 33:22Speaker 1: think you could paint all this stuff in crazy ways.
- 33:25Speaker 1: So it's hard to answer the question. But yeah, it's
- 33:28Speaker 1: something I think about all the time, but I don't
- 33:31Speaker 1: It just doesn't come up in my life that I
- 33:32Speaker 1: have arguments with really hardcore anti gun people. I remember,
- 33:37Speaker 1: like kind of like how to dispatch. A friend of
- 33:40Speaker 1: mine was relating a story where my friend's wife was
- 33:46Speaker 1: with a friend of hers and her friends said, I
- 33:49Speaker 1: would never let my children go play at a house
- 33:53Speaker 1: that had guns in the house, And my friend's wife said, well,
- 33:57Speaker 1: you better not let them come play at my house.
- 34:00Speaker 1: You know, that's probably like the extent of the extent
- 34:05Speaker 1: of the conversation because I just I just don't think
- 34:07Speaker 1: you're gonna win it. Maybe someone who's really good is
- 34:10Speaker 1: gonna win it. But this question is really hardcore anti
- 34:15Speaker 1: gun people. Well, I think some people have misconceptions about
- 34:19Speaker 1: firearms in general, and that's kind of what we were
- 34:20Speaker 1: talking about Elier today is or what we were talking
- 34:23Speaker 1: about as far as hunter education and how that kind
- 34:26Speaker 1: of can dispel the myth as far as you know,
- 34:29Speaker 1: just knowledge in general about firearms as they are as
- 34:34Speaker 1: they are. And I think a lot of people are like, oh,
- 34:36Speaker 1: there's guns in the house, so they think that they're
- 34:37Speaker 1: hidden under the couch, you know, fully loaded in cabinets,
- 34:40Speaker 1: in a cereal box, you know, and that's not where
- 34:43Speaker 1: it is. You know. That's that's the thing I always
- 34:46Speaker 1: think about where I have, um, yeah, like the way
- 34:50Speaker 1: I store my firearm, the way I store my firearms.
- 34:54Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, if someone said it would be like
- 34:57Speaker 1: that guy has thousands of sounds of ammunition stockpiled in
- 35:03Speaker 1: a closet full of weapons, I won't be like, well, yeah,
- 35:08Speaker 1: but I mean you gotta come look at how it's
- 35:10Speaker 1: set up. It's not like what you're describing. Yeah, you know,
- 35:13Speaker 1: it's like, oh, there's guns in the house, and you
- 35:15Speaker 1: know there's you know, handguns under cushions and you know,
- 35:18Speaker 1: it's just like easily accessible and it's that's not how
- 35:20Speaker 1: it is. That's one thing I would like to see,
- 35:23Speaker 1: um we're talking about. It's funny because people ask like
- 35:26Speaker 1: how I have these conversations. We actually had this conversation
- 35:29Speaker 1: yesterday or today. One thing I'd like to see the
- 35:32Speaker 1: gun industry listen. They don't focus on it, but I'd
- 35:38Speaker 1: like to see a more focus on teaching people how
- 35:43Speaker 1: to um safely store firearms in their home, which is
- 35:52Speaker 1: something I never thought until I had kids. If you
- 35:56Speaker 1: don't have kids, like it doesn't you know what I mean?
- 35:58Speaker 1: Just like we we had as a kid, we had
- 36:01Speaker 1: a gun cabinet, but it was different because because this
- 36:04Speaker 1: is like I'm forty one and my but my dad
- 36:06Speaker 1: was like the age of most people's grandpas, because you
- 36:08Speaker 1: have men, was really old. You didn't touch that far
- 36:10Speaker 1: the gun cabinet because you he'd kill you. Right. I
- 36:14Speaker 1: probably had just like the little key, right, and it
- 36:18Speaker 1: was like if he came in and you were messing
- 36:20Speaker 1: around and there you were dead. I don't have I
- 36:23Speaker 1: don't like inspire that kind of fear out of my kids.
- 36:26Speaker 1: So I've been lately now, you know, as they get older.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I'm lately now always trying to make sure that my
- 36:34Speaker 1: um storage technique is way advanced beyond their age, right,
- 36:44Speaker 1: like a one year old, it's like, okay, yeah, you
- 36:47Speaker 1: can't really stand up yet, So I know how to
- 36:49Speaker 1: keep stuff away from him now that I gotta almost
- 36:52Speaker 1: My kid will be five pretty soon. So now I'm
- 36:55Speaker 1: getting into more like, you know, actual protocol because I'm
- 37:01Speaker 1: not just worried about my kid. You know, even if
- 37:04Speaker 1: I didn't instill that level of fear that my dad
- 37:07Speaker 1: instilled me about not touching stuff, I'm not supposed touch.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I don't know what his friends. I don't know that
- 37:12Speaker 1: his friends have learned that level of fear, right, and
- 37:14Speaker 1: they might not know anything about it, and they'll be curious.
- 37:16Speaker 1: They're like, oh, what is that? Because they you know,
- 37:19Speaker 1: they come from you know, maybe a household that doesn't
- 37:22Speaker 1: have that kind of you know, education behind it and
- 37:25Speaker 1: that kind of you know environment that they're raising and stuff,
- 37:27Speaker 1: and they're like, oh, there's a you know, what's that
- 37:29Speaker 1: right there? I want to go play with that? That
- 37:30Speaker 1: looks pretty cool. Yeah, because they've they've fetisht they've like
- 37:34Speaker 1: some people like accidentally fetishized guns. You know, like my
- 37:38Speaker 1: kids already not my youngest too, but my four year
- 37:41Speaker 1: old I've already met. We go out and shoot his
- 37:43Speaker 1: be begun. This is the muzzle, this is the trigger,
- 37:46Speaker 1: this is the safety. Never do this, Never do that.
- 37:50Speaker 1: So if somehow he was inspired to, like somehow whatever,
- 37:53Speaker 1: there was a lapse and he was able to get access,
- 37:58Speaker 1: he has in his head the fundamental, don't you know?
- 38:04Speaker 1: And I think that this sort of thing like guns
- 38:06Speaker 1: are bad. I don't even want to know how they work.
- 38:08Speaker 1: It's ridiculous, right, it's respecting knowledge. That was the point
- 38:11Speaker 1: we made today is that education, just a little bit
- 38:14Speaker 1: will go so far for so many people. And I
- 38:16Speaker 1: don't look at any differently than teach my kids about
- 38:18Speaker 1: like the car, like you don't let your kids mess
- 38:23Speaker 1: around with like keys in the ignition and started jacking
- 38:27Speaker 1: around the you know, shifter. Bad things happen when kids
- 38:31Speaker 1: do that. You know, nobody lets their kids do that.
- 38:33Speaker 1: It's a dangerous you know, not like no, don't even
- 38:35Speaker 1: look at that sun. This is a dangerous machine. This car.
- 38:39Speaker 1: You're not allowed to touch the you know, you're like, hey, man,
- 38:42Speaker 1: don't be touching this. Don't be touching this if I'm
- 38:44Speaker 1: not in the car, you can't even be up in
- 38:46Speaker 1: the front here. But this is what all this stuff is.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Don't touch it. Oh man, I got a story about that.
- 38:51Speaker 1: I mean, okay, it's related to that. Me and my
- 38:54Speaker 1: buddy back when we're I think we were five, and
- 38:56Speaker 1: uh we're at a seven eleven parking lot and it
- 38:59Speaker 1: was sloped as I went inside, and it was you know,
- 39:01Speaker 1: he had a standard, and so my buddy hops up front.
- 39:03Speaker 1: He's like, I'm gonna drive and hit the clutch and
- 39:06Speaker 1: put it and essentially put it in a neutral and
- 39:09Speaker 1: dropped the dropped the parking break, and we just went
- 39:12Speaker 1: straight backwards. Two five ye old kids in this car,
- 39:14Speaker 1: just like right out into the street getting a crash.
- 39:17Speaker 1: No you get a crash? Did you get a crash?
- 39:19Speaker 1: Because my we probably rolled back about you know, fift
- 39:23Speaker 1: and we just freaked out. And then so as soon
- 39:25Speaker 1: as he you know, he had his hand on that
- 39:26Speaker 1: parking break and threw that back and then his dad
- 39:28Speaker 1: just burst out that door and we got it. We
- 39:32Speaker 1: got it. That was no, no, that ever happened. So
- 39:36Speaker 1: we you know, now we have educational respect for the
- 39:38Speaker 1: parking break. Sixteen on my lips not sixt when we've answered,
- 39:43Speaker 1: what were your wife not eat? I like that, my dude,
- 39:52Speaker 1: My wife eats more wild game than than nineties some
- 39:56Speaker 1: odd percent of the guys that hunted. I know. She
- 39:59Speaker 1: don't air. She doesn't like to hunt. She likes to
- 40:05Speaker 1: go fishing with me. She likes that I take the
- 40:07Speaker 1: kids fishing. She's been out hunting. She's not like she devil,
- 40:10Speaker 1: doesn't self identify as a hunter. She has no real
- 40:13Speaker 1: desire to go hunting. But she's all kinds of wild game. Well.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I like about her too, is um. She didn't even
- 40:21Speaker 1: stay like, Yeah, I know it's whatever you want to
- 40:22Speaker 1: tell me. It's hypocritical that I like to eat me,
- 40:24Speaker 1: but I don't want to kill the animal. Sure, if
- 40:26Speaker 1: that's what I am, that's what I am. She loves
- 40:30Speaker 1: that I bring home wild game, you know, And I
- 40:34Speaker 1: do know that there's I think I believe there's one
- 40:35Speaker 1: animal that's on the cook list right now. For no,
- 40:39Speaker 1: it's back on the list. My wife had put a
- 40:43Speaker 1: temporary moratorium on the consumption of black bear flash. She
- 40:46Speaker 1: didn't even last a year. No, I didn't know it
- 40:49Speaker 1: didn't last. She listen, she's happy, like I cook in
- 40:54Speaker 1: our family. You know, like if I'm home, I cook,
- 40:57Speaker 1: I like it. She don't like it, so she'll cook
- 40:59Speaker 1: if she has to be. If I'm home, I'm like,
- 41:01Speaker 1: why why suffered? When I want to do it. There's
- 41:05Speaker 1: no way that, like if I cook, suffer. My wife
- 41:07Speaker 1: she was down on BlackBerry meat just because we uh,
- 41:10Speaker 1: me and well, everybody's sitting the table, Mike, you're honestly
- 41:13Speaker 1: honest his brother Mandy. We all got trick on nolysis,
- 41:16Speaker 1: which I've talked about a great deal from eating undercook
- 41:19Speaker 1: blackburr meat. And my wife kind of overcracked and said
- 41:22Speaker 1: that I was not that I wasn't allowed to eat it,
- 41:24Speaker 1: but that the kids and her weren't eating. But I've
- 41:27Speaker 1: given him blackbur meat since then, my wife's grateful man
- 41:31Speaker 1: that I cook. If I cooked, she's gonna eat it.
- 41:33Speaker 1: She might say that something tastes like a little bit off,
- 41:36Speaker 1: or like if I cook, if I have some salmon,
- 41:38Speaker 1: you know, like we'll go up to our cabin and
- 41:40Speaker 1: catch a bunch of salmon, and you know, it's great
- 41:43Speaker 1: for a couple months. Then you're kind of get in
- 41:44Speaker 1: that borderline area it gets a little skanky. She might
- 41:47Speaker 1: point out that the salmon's a little skanky. She might
- 41:50Speaker 1: point out that something's a little bit tough, but no,
- 41:53Speaker 1: there's no way if I cooked dinner for my wife,
- 41:58Speaker 1: there's no way that my wife would like not eat it,
- 42:01Speaker 1: unless perhaps it was a person. But I sat down
- 42:07Speaker 1: and ate a meal of domestic dog with my wife. Really, Yeah,
- 42:12Speaker 1: so what's her favorite game does she have? It was understandable,
- 42:19Speaker 1: you know what she raved about. She didn't like the
- 42:22Speaker 1: burger often. I don't know why, but she raved about
- 42:25Speaker 1: that white some of that white tail you sent, like
- 42:28Speaker 1: that white tail. That's awesome, no kidding, Yeah, that's great.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Here only complained about the burgos. It was it was
- 42:34Speaker 1: like very mild. I think she's a little bit used to.
- 42:38Speaker 1: But then we did like a roast and slice of thin,
- 42:40Speaker 1: ate it cold, and she loved it, loved it. That's fantastic.
- 42:44Speaker 1: So but yeah, she likes to help meet a lot.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Um trying to think of some things that she hasn't
- 42:50Speaker 1: been crazy about. Dude, she eats squirrel. She just doesn't care.
- 42:55Speaker 1: She doesn't care what you guys should answer the question,
- 42:58Speaker 1: Like the wife came from um she met me was
- 43:02Speaker 1: a vegetarian. Yeah, and we had been for how long?
- 43:08Speaker 1: I don't know, over a decade? Is that right? For
- 43:12Speaker 1: what reason? Ethics? Ye lived and grew up in North Carolina,
- 43:17Speaker 1: but grew up in a hunting and fishing family, in
- 43:20Speaker 1: fishing family. But but it was you know, yes, but
- 43:25Speaker 1: they didn't really do it that much, you know, and
- 43:27Speaker 1: especially in later years, you know, high school, you know,
- 43:30Speaker 1: college whatnot. And North Carolina a lot of pig farming,
- 43:35Speaker 1: and what she saw in that industry turned her off
- 43:38Speaker 1: to meat. Now she's eating a lot of a lot
- 43:42Speaker 1: of meat, a lot of while a game the one
- 43:44Speaker 1: animal that's still I get the no way on, which
- 43:46Speaker 1: is a bummer because I really enjoy pork, not often,
- 43:50Speaker 1: but every now and then, love my bacon, love some
- 43:52Speaker 1: sausage of some sort, and she just can't do it.
- 43:55Speaker 1: She often tries, and just his man, there's something about
- 43:58Speaker 1: that that ex a greasy nest with a flavor or whatever.
- 44:01Speaker 1: So that's kind of on our on the no list.
- 44:04Speaker 1: So can you cut your wild game sausage with pork
- 44:06Speaker 1: fat or you gotta put be fattener? Um. I haven't
- 44:11Speaker 1: made much of my own, but any of the stuff
- 44:13Speaker 1: with pork fat, no, she won't eat it. What about
- 44:16Speaker 1: like wild hog? Well, she eat that we're gonna we haven't, Yes,
- 44:21Speaker 1: she will. Yeah, so it's just domestically raised swine's. But
- 44:26Speaker 1: it's way a different bog like wild hog. It's like,
- 44:31Speaker 1: I mean, it's like it has as much to do
- 44:32Speaker 1: with deer as it has to do with hog. Yeah,
- 44:37Speaker 1: but no. But psychologically if if her deal is like
- 44:39Speaker 1: she just seen stuff she doesn't like. You know, what
- 44:44Speaker 1: about your your Mrs Mrs wash Leski, she changed her
- 44:47Speaker 1: name and you got married. Man. My wife keeps saying
- 44:50Speaker 1: she will, but she says she'll do it when her
- 44:52Speaker 1: passport expires. I gotta wait like five more years. But
- 44:58Speaker 1: there she thought she lost it, and I says, you
- 44:59Speaker 1: can to change the name. She just doesn't want to
- 45:03Speaker 1: have to go down to renew year. Are you wanting
- 45:06Speaker 1: that for tradition's sake? What do you feel like you
- 45:08Speaker 1: could gain out of that? Well, I'll tell you what
- 45:09Speaker 1: I can gain about it. I have to say, um,
- 45:13Speaker 1: let's say someone let's say I'm rs like, uh, let's
- 45:17Speaker 1: say someone. Well, let's say I'm saying yeah, I'd like
- 45:21Speaker 1: to be able to say, like, oh, the Ronella's are coming,
- 45:25Speaker 1: but I can't like the Ronell's are coming and Katie
- 45:30Speaker 1: you know, or why don't you just say staying in
- 45:33Speaker 1: the hotel. We'll be staying in the hotel and she'll
- 45:38Speaker 1: going and do all the signing up well if you want,
- 45:42Speaker 1: and then then I'll call down and they'll be like, oh,
- 45:46Speaker 1: Mr Finch, you know that's why. Yeah, it's just confusing.
- 45:51Speaker 1: You guys need to I just want to get everything
- 45:54Speaker 1: cleaned up. I just want everybody have the same name.
- 45:57Speaker 1: In mind. No, I'm not gonna do that because that's
- 46:01Speaker 1: like not what people do. If that's people did, I
- 46:03Speaker 1: would do it if it was like the typical normal.
- 46:06Speaker 1: In some ways, I'm deeply um establishment. Sure, like I'm
- 46:13Speaker 1: anti establishment where I think it matters and all the
- 46:16Speaker 1: stuff that doesn't really matter to me. I go establishment, okay,
- 46:24Speaker 1: because why have all these extra fights in life. It's like,
- 46:28Speaker 1: I just want to all that have the same name.
- 46:31Speaker 1: It's just is it's just like people have been dealing
- 46:35Speaker 1: with that problem. It's just they've just done it this way.
- 46:38Speaker 1: It's not like I have like something like this is
- 46:41Speaker 1: my last name and it's important, you know. It's just
- 46:45Speaker 1: like it's just how it goes. I don't care if
- 46:48Speaker 1: it was traditional, if I lived in the country, if
- 46:50Speaker 1: there is one where like the dude takes the girl's name,
- 46:54Speaker 1: like fantastic, But like, I just not like interested. There's
- 46:58Speaker 1: I buck all kinds of trends. I admire people who
- 47:01Speaker 1: don't play by the rules, but I admire people who
- 47:05Speaker 1: don't play by the rules that I think are worth violating.
- 47:09Speaker 1: When people just do stuff because they want to have attention,
- 47:13Speaker 1: or they want to make a statement for the sake
- 47:17Speaker 1: of making a statement, for the sake of looking contrarian,
- 47:20Speaker 1: it just isn't it annoys me. Well, for yeah, I
- 47:23Speaker 1: mean for us, it was just like, you know, whenever
- 47:26Speaker 1: we were getting married, it's like, do you do you
- 47:28Speaker 1: want to do this? She's like, yeah, sure, so well
- 47:30Speaker 1: my wife said it. She said she wanted to do it,
- 47:33Speaker 1: but she didn't want to have to renew all her
- 47:35Speaker 1: stuff and she didn't want to change her work email
- 47:39Speaker 1: because she worked in publicity. And she's like, the only
- 47:41Speaker 1: thing I have going for me, To be honest with you,
- 47:45Speaker 1: this is not true, but this is like she has
- 47:47Speaker 1: a lot going for it, but she was to make
- 47:49Speaker 1: a point. She's like, when I call, they pick up.
- 47:56Speaker 1: When their assistant says is blank on the phone. They answer, yeah,
- 48:01Speaker 1: that makes sense because we have a report and we've
- 48:04Speaker 1: known each other a long time. So for my work stuff,
- 48:08Speaker 1: it's gonna be real difficult. M hm. You know, well
- 48:13Speaker 1: it doesn't really bother me. It bothers me a little bit.
- 48:15Speaker 1: When I go to hotels they call up and say, Mr.
- 48:17Speaker 1: You know that bugs me, like in a manly way. Yeah,
- 48:22Speaker 1: here's a question. Hello, let me ask you a question
- 48:24Speaker 1: as far as my way, well, nor favorite what what
- 48:29Speaker 1: she won't eat? Or her favorite game? No, it's what
- 48:32Speaker 1: what won't your wife eat? Uh? Well, you guys, I'm
- 48:36Speaker 1: not gonna ask that question because I don't have any
- 48:38Speaker 1: anything to say that that. It was like what do
- 48:40Speaker 1: they like to eat? Um? Yeah, well no, how could
- 48:45Speaker 1: you This is impossible to not be able to answer.
- 48:47Speaker 1: I thought we were talking about that. What well your wife?
- 48:52Speaker 1: What was she? As far as game? Oh? Yeah, okay,
- 48:56Speaker 1: she's not gonna what about wild game? N I don't
- 49:00Speaker 1: think I've brought home any I see, I haven't brought
- 49:02Speaker 1: it home. Anything is exactly that you guys have that
- 49:05Speaker 1: would have a would she eat the musk ox? Oh
- 49:07Speaker 1: she's had it. We haven't had that yet No, we'll
- 49:12Speaker 1: see how that goes. This is a course I don't
- 49:15Speaker 1: really understand it says a TV, raft, jet, bloat boat,
- 49:21Speaker 1: float plane, or super cup. Um, I guess that they're
- 49:27Speaker 1: asking what you recommend me. I'm gonna ask this. I'm
- 49:32Speaker 1: gonna ask this and just say, like what I what
- 49:34Speaker 1: I like to be on. I'll do it in the
- 49:35Speaker 1: order of and descending order of likeness. And there's one
- 49:42Speaker 1: correction because the super cub can be on floats. But
- 49:45Speaker 1: we'll just say he means like a super cub on,
- 49:48Speaker 1: so it would be uh raft, super cup, float pane,
- 50:01Speaker 1: jet boat, a TV I'm with you, would you walk
- 50:10Speaker 1: away from a gut shot animal that has expired with
- 50:15Speaker 1: without someone? I'm I'm cleaning this up a little bit.
- 50:19Speaker 1: I'll just let me just say it. He's asking, let's
- 50:22Speaker 1: say you're out hunting and you find a gut shot
- 50:24Speaker 1: animal that someone else couldn't didn't find They didn't they
- 50:28Speaker 1: didn't They either couldn't find it or they found it
- 50:30Speaker 1: and didn't want it. And he's saying, what would you do?
- 50:34Speaker 1: Would you would you walk away? Would you keep it?
- 50:36Speaker 1: How about fresh road kill? Then he goes down to
- 50:39Speaker 1: say that he faced this situation and hung his own
- 50:41Speaker 1: tag on the animal. Yeah. Man, it's like if I
- 50:47Speaker 1: found a gut shot animal, is perfectly fun. I don't
- 50:49Speaker 1: want to keep the meat, but I would probably try
- 50:50Speaker 1: everything possible to not put my tag on it and
- 50:53Speaker 1: keep it. Still. Remember one time I was hunting in Montana.
- 50:56Speaker 1: We found an antelope that someone had shot and dumped.
- 50:58Speaker 1: We just trimmed all the meat off it and kept it,
- 51:02Speaker 1: which was illegal, right because it's hunting season and you
- 51:05Speaker 1: can't have meat from an animal, like you can't have
- 51:07Speaker 1: untagged carcass. But I was prepared. It's a little more
- 51:14Speaker 1: complicated because it was an analope season. Season was open,
- 51:19Speaker 1: but I didn't have I shouldn't say that I didn't
- 51:21Speaker 1: have an analop tag for that unit. But here where
- 51:23Speaker 1: we were hunting deer, here's a dead animal. We took
- 51:26Speaker 1: all the meat off that thing, and I was prepared
- 51:29Speaker 1: to if I got checked by a warden, I was
- 51:32Speaker 1: just prepared to be like, yeah, man, it was dumped.
- 51:35Speaker 1: I'll happily take you up and show you where it
- 51:37Speaker 1: was dumped. I committed the grave sin of having taken
- 51:41Speaker 1: the meat off the carcass. Like, let's let's go down
- 51:44Speaker 1: to court and I'll explain it to a judge of
- 51:47Speaker 1: you know. Well, unfortunately though, it would be left up
- 51:50Speaker 1: to him to decide if he was gonna believe your
- 51:52Speaker 1: story or not. Well, you can't argue with It's like
- 51:57Speaker 1: unless I had done it a week ago, you're not
- 51:58Speaker 1: gonna argue with the condition of the animal where it is,
- 52:01Speaker 1: you know, in this case. But in this case, thinking
- 52:05Speaker 1: who clearly been there at who's to say you didn't
- 52:07Speaker 1: it days earlier? Yeah? Yeah, No, that's what I'm saying.
- 52:13Speaker 1: I'm just telling what I did. I'm not recommending someone
- 52:15Speaker 1: due to this. I'm saying what I did was faced
- 52:17Speaker 1: with the thing like spirit of the law, letter of
- 52:21Speaker 1: the law, I opted in this situation to go a
- 52:25Speaker 1: spirit of the law, kept the meat, and was prepared
- 52:29Speaker 1: to face the consequences. If someone had checked me, I
- 52:35Speaker 1: would have said, here's what happened, here's what I got.
- 52:37Speaker 1: I'll show you where it is, this is what I did.
- 52:39Speaker 1: If I'm been in trouble, and I'm in trouble, you know,
- 52:43Speaker 1: so how long? Like how did you estimate how long
- 52:45Speaker 1: I have been there? I mean, like we're like, what
- 52:47Speaker 1: is your It was cold? Out, but you can tell
- 52:53Speaker 1: by the way the hair is mad and on it
- 52:55Speaker 1: just all kinds of things like you know, what's been
- 52:57Speaker 1: on on it. It's position like this is a look
- 53:00Speaker 1: to and you know, you know, just like but there's
- 53:04Speaker 1: just like a look to an animals been laying there
- 53:05Speaker 1: a long time, dumped off the side of the road.
- 53:08Speaker 1: It's like that looks fresh. It's it's okay, you know,
- 53:12Speaker 1: I start sinking into the head. We kept We got
- 53:15Speaker 1: the backstraps and four legs off. Didn't take any rear
- 53:18Speaker 1: meter anything, you know, backstrap and four legs off, big
- 53:21Speaker 1: chucks of meat up, tony man legs, whole legs. How
- 53:26Speaker 1: was it? It's great, It's fantastic. I would still I'd
- 53:30Speaker 1: like to find a guy that did it and dump
- 53:33Speaker 1: his body on the side of the So what do
- 53:35Speaker 1: you think the situation was that put the animal there?
- 53:37Speaker 1: Was it just like the guy just lost it on
- 53:39Speaker 1: a trail or I guess it was dumb? It was
- 53:43Speaker 1: you know, we found it a bunch of raptors, right
- 53:47Speaker 1: and just you know, like when you see a ton
- 53:49Speaker 1: of raptors throwing around and like what they got going
- 53:51Speaker 1: on and went over there, and that's what it was
- 53:53Speaker 1: two years ago, and called and I came across a
- 53:56Speaker 1: spiked bowl with brown signs that was clearly perfectly shot.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Probably didn't go more than fifty yards after the guy
- 54:03Speaker 1: shot him. The guy saw brawd time's usually a legal
- 54:07Speaker 1: animal in Colorado. But they weren't five inches and he
- 54:10Speaker 1: had spikes. He was illegal bull. And uh, I just
- 54:14Speaker 1: walked away from him. You walked away? Well, no, no,
- 54:17Speaker 1: I kind of opened but he was stinky, he was green, slimming,
- 54:21Speaker 1: pretty a bummer. I've done that a handful too. I
- 54:25Speaker 1: used to take I used to take road kill illegally
- 54:29Speaker 1: in the state. I lived in the state where you
- 54:31Speaker 1: weren't allowed to take road kill, But again I took.
- 54:33Speaker 1: I would take road kill deer and cut the prime
- 54:37Speaker 1: cuts off it as the act of civil disobedience. Now
- 54:41Speaker 1: I'll point out it's not illegal to take roadkill in
- 54:43Speaker 1: that state. One time out when I was a little kid,
- 54:46Speaker 1: we went out. My old man, UH shot a deer
- 54:51Speaker 1: with his boat, got a bad hit on it. As happens,
- 54:57Speaker 1: bow one, um, you gotta ad hit on it. We
- 55:01Speaker 1: trailed that deer to all one in the morning. Never
- 55:04Speaker 1: found the deer. We're driving home from tracking it in
- 55:10Speaker 1: my dad's seventy nine jeep Grand Cherokee and hit another
- 55:15Speaker 1: deer with the truck. And there was no tracking job
- 55:19Speaker 1: on this one. And just like byam right on the
- 55:21Speaker 1: road and he and I was sitting. I was riding,
- 55:24Speaker 1: shocking my two betters in the backseat, and you got
- 55:26Speaker 1: the back like that. We called the way back and
- 55:28Speaker 1: my old man goes around and opens the backup and
- 55:32Speaker 1: throws the whole deer in the back. We start on
- 55:37Speaker 1: down Ryerson Road and all of a sudden, my brothers
- 55:40Speaker 1: are screaming in the back and that deer is just
- 55:43Speaker 1: standing up in the back of the jeep Grand Kerokee,
- 55:47Speaker 1: on its feet. Holy it's my dad slammed on the brakes,
- 55:50Speaker 1: went around, opened the backup, drugged that deer out into
- 55:53Speaker 1: the road, cut his throw with the knife low to
- 55:56Speaker 1: the back of the truck. We drove home, and the
- 55:58Speaker 1: next day he called the police and they would come
- 56:00Speaker 1: out and give you a permit, a road kill permit.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Another time I was I was I had this old girl,
- 56:10Speaker 1: this my old girlfriend from high school. We're staying there
- 56:13Speaker 1: and by my mom and dad's house where I lived
- 56:15Speaker 1: because in high school and I see a deer out
- 56:18Speaker 1: swimming in the lake, which wasn't an everyday occurrence. And
- 56:23Speaker 1: I see the deer climb up in Bob stair ITTs
- 56:27Speaker 1: yard and a run up through bob Stairts yard. Later
- 56:31Speaker 1: that they were walking down the road and here's the
- 56:34Speaker 1: deer stone dead in bob Stairts yard because it went
- 56:38Speaker 1: to duck the pipe on a cyclone fence and snapped
- 56:41Speaker 1: its neck on the fence. Wow, And they gave me
- 56:45Speaker 1: a road kill for that. Like those fence with the
- 56:49Speaker 1: wire like this chainling fence, that's what I means chainling fence.
- 56:52Speaker 1: He like ducked his head, you know the pipe they
- 56:55Speaker 1: always feel like a pipe on top of that. He
- 56:58Speaker 1: ducked his head and put like it looked like you
- 57:00Speaker 1: just threw a basketball. Two. Now we're out of chain
- 57:03Speaker 1: link fence and just laying there with a snapping net. Oh.
- 57:06Speaker 1: So he ran into it, ran into the fence pipe
- 57:09Speaker 1: on top like it was like he tried to like
- 57:12Speaker 1: instead of go over the fence, try to go onto
- 57:14Speaker 1: the It was a walking I mean, he was running scared.
- 57:18Speaker 1: And remember like when I was when we saw that thing.
- 57:21Speaker 1: There's some people out chasing in the paddle boat. The
- 57:24Speaker 1: deer's out swimming the lake and the people out like
- 57:25Speaker 1: kind of like, oh my god, deer in the lake
- 57:27Speaker 1: and they're chasing the paddle boat. Another time, another deer
- 57:30Speaker 1: swimming lake in the other direction, going north and got
- 57:33Speaker 1: hung up in another neighbor's chain link fence and snapped
- 57:36Speaker 1: his leg. We kept that deer and they gave us
- 57:39Speaker 1: a road kill permit for it. And he's don't even
- 57:41Speaker 1: road killed deer. It's just like a way to make
- 57:43Speaker 1: it legal for you to utilize deer. They're dying around you,
- 57:47Speaker 1: okay from you know, I guess unnatural causes, human made causes.
- 57:51Speaker 1: I'm not going to answer this one. Oh I have
- 57:53Speaker 1: one last note on that. You know, I feel like
- 57:56Speaker 1: I used to be a little more emotional about I
- 57:58Speaker 1: feel really bad for that animal. If you found him,
- 58:01Speaker 1: and it's like, man, he didn't the meat did not
- 58:03Speaker 1: get used. I don't feel that way anymore. It's like,
- 58:05Speaker 1: because there's new treat recycling exactly like it's going. It's
- 58:08Speaker 1: just all part of the yeah, back to the earth
- 58:11Speaker 1: and whatever. I do still dislike the guy that did
- 58:15Speaker 1: that to that animal, Well, I'm with you. I'd kick
- 58:18Speaker 1: him off the side of the road, kick him in
- 58:20Speaker 1: the nuts. You know, he should be beaten. You know. Yeah,
- 58:25Speaker 1: I don't do it, like I'm not so adamant about
- 58:28Speaker 1: it because I don't believe in nu treat recycling. I
- 58:30Speaker 1: can believe in new treats, like like, yeah, it goes back.
- 58:32Speaker 1: It's like it's made up of of elements that go
- 58:36Speaker 1: back into the earth and they'll find new they'll they'll
- 58:38Speaker 1: come a bunch of critters are gonna eat that animal.
- 58:41Speaker 1: It's more like I'm trying to like remedy or wrong. Yeah,
- 58:46Speaker 1: trying to right or wrong. When I say go to waste,
- 58:49Speaker 1: I guess what you're really saying. I guess it gets
- 58:51Speaker 1: super like, um, it gets uh, it's not being enjoyed. Yeah,
- 58:59Speaker 1: it's like it's ethereal. It's like you're you're it goes
- 59:03Speaker 1: a waste in a human sense or something, you know,
- 59:05Speaker 1: I mean it goes It's like, yeah, it doesn't go
- 59:07Speaker 1: to waste in this sort of grand scheme of things
- 59:10Speaker 1: since but it just goes to waste in a human
- 59:12Speaker 1: sense because vultures and counties don't care how it tastes.
- 59:14Speaker 1: It's just getting consumed. Yeah, that's a good point. I
- 59:18Speaker 1: don't want to answer. I'm gonna answer this one, but
- 59:20Speaker 1: I want you guys to answer. I'm curious what you
- 59:22Speaker 1: guys think about this Sasquatch yeties if eat of you
- 59:32Speaker 1: guys has no Okay, did you see he set that
- 59:37Speaker 1: one in? No? Oh, never mind, Cody Luan, How did
- 59:43Speaker 1: you get on this list? Cody? Because here's the thing,
- 59:50Speaker 1: I'll just say it real quick. At a time, Florida
- 59:53Speaker 1: was down to forty seven panthers mountain lions, you know,
- 59:58Speaker 1: Florida panthers. They were down to forty seven panthers. Yet
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: every year many of them would get hit on the
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: highway by cars. If you have this stable breeding population
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: of primates that have been here longer, the story goes,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: when people who are into this stuff that they've been
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: here far longer than Homo sapiens on the continent, it
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: would just wind up that you're gonna have a carcass.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: You're gonna have a carcass. I know, Oh, they bury
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: each other, all that kind of stuff, and it's a
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: conspiracy and all that kind of stuff, But at some
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: point you would just have a dead body. And I'm
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: not talking like some hair or like a weird footprint.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: There just be a dead one land there. After years
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: of us being here and hundreds of years of us
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: driving to extinction, small little creatures that would fit in
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: the palm of your hand, we would have by now
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: had a dead one. I think I just rewrite Cody's
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: question again and it just says, sasquatch YETI or stinkcape.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: He just wants to know what you call that critter.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Don't call it any of that I called a big
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Don't ask Tody, don't ask any more questions. This is
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: for real questions for real people. Well, I this is
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: why I have one thing to say about that. So
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: if there's a population, sask this is on this topic, right,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: population right, Okay, they've existed completely undiscovered. Nobody's ever like
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: really seeing them. They don't have to make any noise
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: or supposedly you know where they make not eat watermelons?
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: And how how big are they supposed to be? A fete?
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: All right? The size of the crap that an animal
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: that size would leave throughout the forest would just it
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: would be there and you would step in it all
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: the time. And then look at the side, Look at
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: the side. I mean, we're just out on a property
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: with cows. I mean those are massive, so it'd be like,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: what is that? I mean, you know, you're walking around
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: to the fort. She said, Oh look somebody took some
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: somebody took a ship here, somebody took a share. I
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: know what this is. I know what this is. It
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: would be monster. I mean you know if whenever you're
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: walking through the woods and you you you come across
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: man leavings, you know what that is. Yeah, and it's
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: like special crap that it evaporates minutes after they Yeah,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: they like how they bury that too, and then they
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: like their tissue paper. On the comedian Late the Late
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Great comedian Mitch Edbird was saying that, um, he doesn't
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: think that it's that it's the photographer's fault. The big
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: puts always blurry and pictures. He thinks he just is blurry. Unfortunately,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: we're to know. I want one. I got one more,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: to get one more. I'm interested in. Um he saw
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: about when you're deep in Brownberry country, you guys seem
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: to sleep in tents to look like a bear would
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: have no problem getting into him, Like, how how can
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: you sleep in a nylon tent? I guess I can't.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I don't. I don't live in fear of bears. No,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: The chances, I think I have a good analogy. The
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: chances of a bear coming through one of those nylon
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: tents are less than you sleeping in your bedroom on
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: your normal residential street and having a car drive through
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: your bedroom wall and drive you over. We're having like
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: some kind of insane man and come in and chop
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: you up with you guys have been around this for
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: a while, so this is all new to me, and
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: so I let me just I have something you know,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: I've got at least inside from like a novice to
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: like camping out in Mike actually doesn't sleep. It sounds
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: like no. Well, the one reason I go to sleep
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: is because I'm so exhausted from work every single day
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: and the amount of hiking work that we do. So
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: it's just like I don't have a choice. It's just
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I gotta go to sleep, so I'm gonna pass out.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: But that fear, you know, it's slowly diminished. But it
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: was the first time I was there. Whenever we went
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: with ROURK, I mean I was I was like, okay,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: I was like, I was like, I'm literally a baked
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: potato and he can just open me, open this thing up,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: and just like get to the soft creamy center if
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: you wanted to. I mean that's what I felt. I
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: was like because you know it, you know, that was
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: a legitimate Serren. You guys are all you know whatever,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: You've been around it for a long time. But for me,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: it was just like I'm sleeping in a just like
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: a you know, a diaper essentially picture that you had
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: grown up on, a picture you've grown up in in
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Central Bolivia. Sure, on a river, okay, in the jungle,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: and you came up and and and we took you
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: down the highway in a car. Sure, well absolutely, and
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: and and you know, I'm slowly you know now that
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: I've been til asking several times sleeping in tents, and
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: it's like, okay, I'm only I'm yeah, I'm not like,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: I'm not contesting your point. I'm just saying I get
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: what you're saying. Well, what made me feel better is
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: the fact that it was just like the luck of
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: the drawers, Like, well, all these other guys are sleeping
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: in tents too, so I've got you know, like a
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: one in six chance of you know, being eaten in
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: this tent. And especially because my team was next to me,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: I was like, all right, well, I was like, you know,
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: which tent looks more delicious? It's like, I mean, his
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: is pretty sweet. So I think that right there says
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: at all which tent looks more delicious? Bears don't cruise
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: around looking to eat humans. They just don't. No, I
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: get that, I get that, but whenever you've never done that,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: it seems ridiculous. And now and now I know and
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: haven't done it. When bears are you know, described uh,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: especially grizzly bears to people, Yeah, it's like all you
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: hear about, you know, is the one bear that charges
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: not the other ten bears that we saw It ran
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: away as soon as they smelled us. And well yeah,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: but I mean being out there and stuff and just
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: having them roam around was a new, you know, and
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: terrifying experience a certain degree. And it was new. But
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: now I through knowledge and and being around that and
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: knowing that that's not the case, it's just like, yeah,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: it's okay. It's just that that's just part of the
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: wild left that lives out there. Yeah, and answer that
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: guy's question, Yeah, I don't know what you could take
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: out there. To sleep in that would help. Yeah, that's
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: kind of what I was wondering. Yeah, I don't know,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: like if you like a bear proof thing. This guy
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: that asks questions to watch that movie about the dude
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: who tried to make the Grizly Grizzly proof soup. There's
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: a guy who got mauled by a grizz lee and
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: tried to build a grizzly proof suit that he could
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: wear and go out and get mauled by another one
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: that wouldn't be able to hurt him. And he built
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: this suit and it would go around trying to just
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: get mauled by a bearer. But he couldn't get mauled
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: by a bear. He did everything like they took a
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: horse up in the mountain, shot the horse way. The
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: bears started getting and he come up and try to
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: like mess with the bears, but they would they would
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: never attack him in that suit. He even had his
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: body run him over with the truck wearing the suit.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: He like, this suit was badass, but he he Yeah,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: he had a hard time getting bared. Once you want
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: a bear to attack you, it doesn't happen. I want
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: a bear to give me a giant scratch. From here
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: all five claws that starts here on my upper left
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: shoulder and extends down around to my right hip like that.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: Like people get tattoos. They they're like a bad mofo
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: right for having a tattoo, you know. And really I
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: was like, well, he's got a tattoo. I mean, they
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: made me do that. But if you got like a
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: big scratch from a grizzly, that's hard to show up
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: bars though. I mean, especially because I guess maybe you
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: have to take your whole shirt off and everything. No,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I just act like like, oh, man, I got like
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: an itch, you know, just like like, man's keep righting here?
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: Oh my god, what is that? I'm like, Oh no,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: it's gonna scratched up the grizzly. Um. Were you saying
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: we're done with the podcast? Yannie? You know why we're done.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: We're getting out in the morning going turkey hunting, and uh,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: crew hunt, crew hunt. I'm not hunting the mow. I'm
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: not hunting the MoU. Oh, Yanni and Mike here are
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: hunting the mile. Mm hmm. I'm napping. Well, who's gonna call? Well,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: you just had to wake me up every ten minutes, Okay,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I'll do that all right, Thanks for listening. If you
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: have questions, go a couple of things. Go go to
