- 0:00SPEAKER_00: We've all worked with someone who just wouldn't listen.
- 0:04But if I'm being honest and transparent,
- 0:07there have been times when that person was yours truly.
- 0:12Well,
- 0:12today,
- 0:13our focus is Proverbs 26.1 because it's the 26th day of the
- 0:16month.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking at bay.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford,
- 0:33and each day we open the book of Proverbs that corresponds to
- 0:37the day of the month.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: And then we just simply ask, what is it telling us?
- 0:42What are we learning as marketplace leaders,
- 0:46co-workers,
- 0:47and influencers of culture at times?
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: So grab your coffee and let's reflect on today's proverb.
- 0:56I'm reading Proverbs 26,
- 0:58verse 1,
- 0:58and then jumping to verse 12 from the ESV.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Like snow and summer are rain and harvest,
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: So honor is not fitting for a fool.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes?
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: There is more hope for a fool than for him.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: You know, a fool isn't just someone who makes mistakes.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: We all do that.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: A fool is someone who refuses correction.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: They reject wisdom, ignore truth, and resist relationship building.
- 1:37because they're too focused on chasing the next transaction or
- 1:42proving themselves right.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: reflecting on 60 years,
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: more than 60 years now in business,
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I can see times when I was that fool.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: I thought those trying to correct me were the foolish ones.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: The truth, I wasn't listening.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Fools, according to Proverbs, are wise in their own eyes.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: They don't pause.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: They don't seek input.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: They double down,
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: even when they're off course,
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: and they stir up confusion,
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: erode team unity,
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: and make the mission harder for everyone else.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: But let's be careful here.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: These are still God's other children made in his image.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Even difficult people are people for whom Christ died.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: We may not change them, but we can choose how to influence them.
- 2:43Every team,
- 2:44sales,
- 2:45operations,
- 2:46leadership,
- 2:47every team has people who create friction.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And some are stuck in ego.
- 2:53Remember,
- 2:54we previously decided that the acronym for ego is edging God
- 2:59out.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Some of these people lack maturity.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Some are just simply hard to lead.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: The easy route is to focus on their flaws.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: But wise leaders, wise customer success masters know better.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Our role is to guide, equip, and disciple them.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: If,
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: after repeated effort,
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: they remain resistant and disruptive,
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: it may be time to release them or,
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: like I say,
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: repurpose them elsewhere.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: But never let ego go.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: edging God out, drive our decisions.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Let it be rooted.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Let our decisions be rooted in stewardship, alignment, and clarity.
