Latest / Pit Talk / Pecco Bagnaia's HUGE Crash & Marc Marquez Masterclass: MotoGP Pit Talk
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Mark Marquez is back to his winning ways in Moto GP,
- 0:04Speaker 1: absolutely owning the Aragon grompri in the Spanish Desert, but
- 0:09Speaker 1: his victory celebration got a bit upstaged by a wild
- 0:12Speaker 1: family affair. His brother Alex Marquez took out Peco Banyaya,
- 0:16Speaker 1: the championship leader, in a crazy crash could have been
- 0:20Speaker 1: straight out of a Wild West movie. I'm your host,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Rinita Vmulin, and alongside me is my partner in crime,
- 0:26Speaker 1: the sharp shooting legend of Modorspot Media. Matt Clayton. Matt,
- 0:31Speaker 1: We've got a lot to cover in this episode, but
- 0:34Speaker 1: it's hard not to talk about the eight time world
- 0:36Speaker 1: champion Mark Marquez, who was finally returned to the top
- 0:39Speaker 1: step of the podium after a saggering one thousand and
- 0:43Speaker 1: forty three days Bruneta.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I felt that I wrote one thousand and forty three
- 0:48Speaker 2: about one thousand and forty three times yesterday and the
- 0:51Speaker 2: wash up of Aragon, But it was great to see him.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It was kind of nostalgic to see him just completely
- 0:57Speaker 2: boss a wish Hendroom start to finish like he did,
- 1:00Speaker 2: and it was funny watching the race on Sunday. Yes,
- 1:02Speaker 2: he'd already won the sprint on Saturday, but it was
- 1:04Speaker 2: sort of strangely unemotional for a guy that hasn't won
- 1:08Speaker 2: and over three years, because it just seems so inevitable
- 1:10Speaker 2: from the moment that we got on track at Aragon
- 1:13Speaker 2: on Friday, and there are a lot of circumstances leading
- 1:16Speaker 2: to that that will probably get to But I don't
- 1:18Speaker 2: know about you, but I quite enjoyed the nostalgic factor
- 1:20Speaker 2: of watching him just make everyone else look a little
- 1:21Speaker 2: bit silly for a weekend. It was like the old days,
- 1:23Speaker 2: was it?
- 1:24Speaker 1: It was like the old days, And like you said,
- 1:26Speaker 1: we kind of knew it was coming. And the lead
- 1:28Speaker 1: up there's been a lead up to the Wraith in
- 1:31Speaker 1: America coda. Then there was Saxon Ring and we're like, okay,
- 1:35Speaker 1: come on, Mark, you have to have a win soon Aragon.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Calling into this weekend, I thought, you know, maybe the
- 1:41Speaker 1: circuit and the resurfacing wasn't going to suit him. Straight
- 1:44Speaker 1: from the gate, go fastest and Friday Fastest on Saturday
- 1:47Speaker 1: qualifies on poll Win's the sprint, wins the Grand Prix.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It's a Mark Marquez masterclass.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Well, and what was really interesting afterwards was he was discussing.
- 1:56Speaker 2: He was asked about why he was able to be
- 1:58Speaker 2: so strong this particular weekend, and he didn't talk about
- 2:00Speaker 2: the pace, He didn't talk about the left handed nature
- 2:03Speaker 2: of the track, which we know he's so good on
- 2:04Speaker 2: the anti clockwise track. The word that he used was adaptability,
- 2:08Speaker 2: in that he adapts faster to changing conditions better than
- 2:13Speaker 2: anybody else on the grid. And what was so weird
- 2:16Speaker 2: about this weekend is that, Yeah, we had the new
- 2:18Speaker 2: track surface that you were talking about before, so nobody
- 2:20Speaker 2: quite knew how that was going to play out, and
- 2:22Speaker 2: you could see it on the TV shot how dark
- 2:24Speaker 2: that surface was. You could see how new it was.
- 2:27Speaker 2: But effectively we had a new track for three straight
- 2:29Speaker 2: days because it kind of rub it in a little
- 2:32Speaker 2: bit on Friday, massive thunderstorm Friday night washed it clean,
- 2:35Speaker 2: so he had a really green track on Saturday. We
- 2:37Speaker 2: saw what he did on Saturday. The pole margin eighteenth
- 2:40Speaker 2: or point eight four zero as the biggest pole margin
- 2:42Speaker 2: in the dry for thirteen years, so shows you how
- 2:45Speaker 2: dominant he was. He wins a sprint and then it
- 2:48Speaker 2: rains again on Saturday night, so it washes the track
- 2:50Speaker 2: clean again for Sunday. So each day. It was almost
- 2:54Speaker 2: every lap for every rider was how much grip do
- 2:57Speaker 2: I have here? And how far off line can I go?
- 3:00Speaker 2: In conditions are super sketchy like that. You add that
- 3:02Speaker 2: to a track where he's had great success and where
- 3:04Speaker 2: he's clearly very very confident. He's the greatest improviser on
- 3:09Speaker 2: the grid, and I think we've got three totally different
- 3:11Speaker 2: days Friday, Saturday, Sunday. He proved how adaptable he was,
- 3:15Speaker 2: and that's why he was so dominant.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Oh, you're exactly right there.
- 3:18Speaker 1: A lot of the other writers were complaining about grit
- 3:21Speaker 1: constantly all weekend, and we could see it as we'll
- 3:23Speaker 1: get into with Peco Bannaya, just not having any confidence
- 3:27Speaker 1: at all. But like you said, Marquez, the lack of
- 3:30Speaker 1: grip almost suited him. It felt like he could maybe
- 3:33Speaker 1: go back a little bit to the way that he
- 3:35Speaker 1: write or rode the Repsol Honda, but put that in
- 3:38Speaker 1: the Ducatte style and he could blend the two almost seamlessly.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So really, the conditions just matched up perfectly for Mark
- 3:45Speaker 1: to have the weekend that he wanted and I felt
- 3:48Speaker 1: like he needed as well.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, a little bit. I think, you know, the longer
- 3:53Speaker 2: this wind drought went on particularly, I mean, no one
- 3:55Speaker 2: expected him to win on a Honda after how Paul,
- 3:58Speaker 2: that bike's been for a few years, and you know,
- 4:00Speaker 2: he spent the best part of three years physically and
- 4:02Speaker 2: capable of winning, which makes those three wins that he
- 4:04Speaker 2: had in twenty one even crazier when you think about it.
- 4:06Speaker 2: But I think the pressure and everyone kept mentioning that
- 4:10Speaker 2: oney forty three days or whatever it was, week by week,
- 4:13Speaker 2: you could sense there was a burden there. And what
- 4:15Speaker 2: was really interesting after he won that sprint was he
- 4:18Speaker 2: looked more stressed than he looked happy in a lot
- 4:20Speaker 2: of respects because there was now you're expected to go
- 4:22Speaker 2: and win the Grand Prix, and that was like, all right,
- 4:24Speaker 2: that's a little bit of pressure. But I think the
- 4:27Speaker 2: way he celebrated after winning on Sunday, I had to
- 4:30Speaker 2: remind myself as like, have you just want to race
- 4:32Speaker 2: here or have you actually won the World Championship, because
- 4:34Speaker 2: that's the sort of the intensity of that celebration was
- 4:38Speaker 2: like we've seen him do when he's won titles in
- 4:40Speaker 2: the past, And it was interesting afterwards he said that
- 4:42Speaker 2: he felt that he'd lost several kilos and that's just
- 4:45Speaker 2: the monkey on the back of this drought going on
- 4:47Speaker 2: year after year after year, and all the doubts that
- 4:50Speaker 2: he would have had. It feels like he's back, and
- 4:52Speaker 2: I think mentally this win's worth way more than the
- 4:55Speaker 2: win and the twenty five points, because now that he's
- 4:58Speaker 2: broken through this sort of glass ceiling that was above
- 5:01Speaker 2: his head, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if
- 5:04Speaker 2: he runs off some wins now. Now, I don't think
- 5:06Speaker 2: he's going to win the championship. He said that he
- 5:08Speaker 2: probably isn't a championship contender, but I certainly can think
- 5:11Speaker 2: he's going to shape the way the rest of the
- 5:12Speaker 2: season goes now because we know it's probably between Banyar
- 5:16Speaker 2: and Martin. But if Marquez is up there winning more
- 5:19Speaker 2: than occasional races, I'm going to say this right now.
- 5:21Speaker 2: By the way, if he doesn't win at Philip Island,
- 5:24Speaker 2: it's because he hasn't finished. I can only see white
- 5:27Speaker 2: outcome for him at Phlip Island. He's either gonna win
- 5:28Speaker 2: it or he's going to DNF because I think another
- 5:30Speaker 2: left handed circuit that's not going to punish that GP
- 5:33Speaker 2: twenty three is right in his wheelhouse. But I don't
- 5:35Speaker 2: think that's the only race he's going to win for
- 5:37Speaker 2: the rest of the year. I can absolutely see him
- 5:39Speaker 2: shaping the rest of this championship.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I you just look the words out of my mouth.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I completely agree. I think now that he's got that
- 5:46Speaker 1: first win under his belt, there's that confidence and that
- 5:49Speaker 1: sense of Okay, I can do this again, and now
- 5:52Speaker 1: we're going to see the full markers back.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Not that we have.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Well, we've just been in the last five minutes to
- 6:00Speaker 2: try to come up with an eloquent way to describe
- 6:02Speaker 2: what he did. I might just quote Jack Biller here
- 6:04Speaker 2: and bleep out one of the obscenities. Jack was asked
- 6:06Speaker 2: after the race about Marquez and said Mark put on
- 6:09Speaker 2: an effing clinic in Jack's own typically sort of Australian style.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So I don't think any of his rivals were particularly
- 6:16Speaker 2: surprised by what he did, but seeing it when you
- 6:19Speaker 2: haven't seen it for a while and seeing it be
- 6:20Speaker 2: that dominant, I think his peers were pretty impressed. And yeah,
- 6:25Speaker 2: there was a lot of there was a lot of
- 6:27Speaker 2: motion coming out in that celebration. It was nice to see.
- 6:29Speaker 1: It was nice to see and really cool for Grassini
- 6:32Speaker 1: as well.
- 6:32Speaker 3: To have that win.
- 6:33Speaker 1: You know, they took on Mark equally Mark took on
- 6:36Speaker 1: them as well. For them to stand on the top
- 6:38Speaker 1: step of the podium. Together with the weekend that was
- 6:41Speaker 1: full of highs for Mark and lows for Alex Marquez,
- 6:45Speaker 1: I think it was a nice balance. But we're going
- 6:47Speaker 1: to get to that much a later in the episode.
- 6:50Speaker 3: I want to talk about.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Jorge Martin this weekend because Okay, the Mark saw the limelight.
- 6:55Speaker 1: You know, you can see on the Fox socials we
- 6:58Speaker 1: posted about how consistent he was during the race with
- 7:00Speaker 1: his lap times, how is strong all weekend, but Jojey
- 7:03Speaker 1: Martin also looked super just stable, strong, consistent apart from
- 7:09Speaker 1: that one crash on Saturday and Q two I believe
- 7:13Speaker 1: poem Martin was there as well.
- 7:16Speaker 2: This has been the story of the second half of
- 7:18Speaker 2: his year. We keep going back to the fact he
- 7:19Speaker 2: hasn't won a race now, hasn't won a Sunday race
- 7:22Speaker 2: since Lomol in round five, So it's quite a long
- 7:24Speaker 2: time over the context of the last two or three
- 7:27Speaker 2: seasons when he's been a consistent race winner. But he's
- 7:30Speaker 2: always doing the best he can on the day. If
- 7:32Speaker 2: he can't win, and he just keeps finishing second, whether
- 7:35Speaker 2: it's to Peco or to Mark this weekend. You combine
- 7:37Speaker 2: that with an absolute shock of for Banyai, which we'll
- 7:39Speaker 2: get to. But Martin's always there, and that's nineteen out
- 7:43Speaker 2: of twenty four starts this year he's finished on the podium.
- 7:46Speaker 2: So he's just always there. He's always there. He's always there,
- 7:49Speaker 2: and I think that's part of the evolution of him
- 7:51Speaker 2: this year in that it kind of felt last year
- 7:53Speaker 2: that if he couldn't win, it almost not prefer to crash,
- 7:56Speaker 2: but he'd crash trying to win. And I think this
- 7:59Speaker 2: year he's probably learned to keep his power to dry
- 8:01Speaker 2: a little bit more and say, Okay, I can't catch
- 8:03Speaker 2: Mark this weekend, but someone needs to finish second, and
- 8:06Speaker 2: that someone needs to be me, and that's why he's
- 8:09Speaker 2: in this position of advantage in the championship. So, yes,
- 8:12Speaker 2: he didn't win the spread, he didn't win the Grand Prix,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and it was an awesome story that, you know, for
- 8:16Speaker 2: Marquez after what he's been through, that he won. But
- 8:18Speaker 2: you'd almost argue that Martine was the biggest winner over
- 8:20Speaker 2: the weekend in terms of the course of the season,
- 8:22Speaker 2: because he did exactly what was on offer and that's
- 8:25Speaker 2: why he's in the lead now, oh.
- 8:27Speaker 1: One hundred percent. He needed to be ahead of Peco.
- 8:30Speaker 1: He knew that coming to the weekend Friday for everybody
- 8:33Speaker 1: was a game of what ifs because they didn't know
- 8:36Speaker 1: what the track was going to be, like, what the
- 8:37Speaker 1: weather was doing, everything. But as it progressed, like you said,
- 8:41Speaker 1: Mark was going to be in front, that was clear
- 8:43Speaker 1: or hey just had to be behind Mark and Peco
- 8:46Speaker 1: had to be behind him, and that seemed to work
- 8:49Speaker 1: out for him. I think that he kind of ebbs
- 8:52Speaker 1: and flows right, and we spoke about it a little
- 8:55Speaker 1: bit in our preview to the weekend. He posted on
- 8:58Speaker 1: social media saying that he felt real fresh, his batteries
- 9:00Speaker 1: were recharged coming in. I think now because the next
- 9:04Speaker 1: two races are essentially on Peco Bannyaya's home soil. It's
- 9:10Speaker 1: it's Massano, It's a track that he knows like the
- 9:12Speaker 1: back of the hand. For him being ahead of Peco
- 9:15Speaker 1: Banyaya going into those two back to backs I think
- 9:18Speaker 1: was a big game changer and what Jorge Martin needed
- 9:22Speaker 1: to go into those weekends as well.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yeah, completely agree, because you know these are the equivalent
- 9:28Speaker 2: of sort of two away fixtures coming up. Now, if
- 9:30Speaker 2: you've got to talk about it and say if like
- 9:31Speaker 2: a football parlance, I guess because back to back races
- 9:34Speaker 2: at Massano. Once that second race was announced there, I
- 9:37Speaker 2: think our immediate reaction was all, like, this is really
- 9:39Speaker 2: big for Banyaya in terms of the World Championship because
- 9:42Speaker 2: it's another free hit for him at home. We know
- 9:44Speaker 2: how good he is at Massano. Now, look, Joge Martin
- 9:47Speaker 2: won the sprint and the Grand Prix at Massano last year.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I don't like to put asterisks on things, but Banyai
- 9:53Speaker 2: was so beeping up after he'd had that massive high
- 9:55Speaker 2: sight on the first lap at Catalonia the week before that.
- 9:58Speaker 2: He was super compromised and Martine had a bit of
- 10:00Speaker 2: a free hit with that one. But it was so
- 10:03Speaker 2: important that Martin was able to take some sort of
- 10:06Speaker 2: advantage out of Aragon because these next two races, for me,
- 10:10Speaker 2: it's almost like a guy playing defense for two races
- 10:12Speaker 2: in that there's so much more to lose than there
- 10:14Speaker 2: is to gain, but he's now doing that defensive position
- 10:18Speaker 2: from a strength of advantage. Super super important for Aragon
- 10:22Speaker 2: and just a really mature weekend for him, where you know,
- 10:25Speaker 2: we saw how sketchy it was, it was very very
- 10:27Speaker 2: easy to throw it down the road. He did exactly
- 10:28Speaker 2: what he needed to do.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, talking about throwing it down the road, I want
- 10:33Speaker 1: to talk about Peko Banyaya, not that crash a shout,
- 10:36Speaker 1: but his starts this weekend, his stars. Like I said earlier,
- 10:41Speaker 1: he had no confidence and you could clearly see that
- 10:43Speaker 1: and he just didn't look very happy at all all weekend.
- 10:47Speaker 3: But I can't believe.
- 10:49Speaker 1: That in both the sprint and the main Grand Prix,
- 10:52Speaker 1: how sketchy his starts were and how well he saved
- 10:56Speaker 1: those and that there wasn't a crash.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Amazing. One of those weeks where you almost wish you
- 11:01Speaker 2: didn't qualify on the front row because he qualified third,
- 11:03Speaker 2: and it was interesting qualifying set up for me. There
- 11:06Speaker 2: were three guys that had their weekends completely determined by
- 11:09Speaker 2: where they qualified. Juge Martine was off the front row.
- 11:11Speaker 2: It's not something we say very often. He was fourth
- 11:14Speaker 2: on the grid, but he was on the racing line
- 11:15Speaker 2: that had been cleaned up. And I put air quotes
- 11:17Speaker 2: around this because the track was so dirty. Banion started
- 11:21Speaker 2: on the front row, but he was right up against
- 11:22Speaker 2: the pitwall there in P three, which is the side
- 11:25Speaker 2: of the track that no one ever rides on, let's
- 11:26Speaker 2: be honest. And so both of his starts it was
- 11:29Speaker 2: like he was starting in the wet and everyone else
- 11:30Speaker 2: was starting in the dry, and I think he went
- 11:32Speaker 2: more sideways than he went forward on both starts. So
- 11:35Speaker 2: qualifying third actually hurt him in some respects. And he
- 11:39Speaker 2: was able to show some pretty decent pace in the
- 11:42Speaker 2: Grand Prix before the incident, which we'll get to, but
- 11:45Speaker 2: the sprint he was kind of nowhere. I mean, he
- 11:46Speaker 2: tried alled around finishing ninth in the sprint, and without
- 11:49Speaker 2: being too unkind to Jack Millie, you know you've had
- 11:51Speaker 2: a bit of a shocker when you've scored as many
- 11:53Speaker 2: points on the weekend as Jack has when you're Peko Vnel,
- 11:55Speaker 2: because Jack scored one pointed Aragon and that's all Peco
- 11:57Speaker 2: left with as well. But it interesting after the sprint,
- 12:01Speaker 2: the he was pretty clear that he was unhappy with
- 12:05Speaker 2: Michelin without actually naming Michelin, because he said, well, you know,
- 12:08Speaker 2: my team did everything right. I did everything right and
- 12:10Speaker 2: sort of left the sentence hanging there because he wasn't
- 12:13Speaker 2: particularly happy with the tires. But his whole weekend really
- 12:17Speaker 2: was defined by where he qualified, because quite frankly, he
- 12:19Speaker 2: would have been better off qualifying fourth or fifth or seventh,
- 12:22Speaker 2: because he probably would have got off to a better
- 12:24Speaker 2: start in both races, and then both races completely changed
- 12:27Speaker 2: because anyone in those spots up against the pit wall
- 12:30Speaker 2: three six, nine, twelve going back, they just couldn't get
- 12:32Speaker 2: off the line because it was so so dirty and
- 12:35Speaker 2: greasy out there, and that's ultimately what cost him.
- 12:38Speaker 1: So an interesting start that I found out Peko's third
- 12:42Speaker 1: crash in his sixth DNF this year, where in I
- 12:46Speaker 1: think it was twenty twenty one, he was finding Fabio
- 12:49Speaker 1: Corderrero for the championship and he'd only had five DNFs,
- 12:54Speaker 1: So I think at this point of the year to
- 12:56Speaker 1: have six, that's a big thing for Peco the professor.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And you know, I think having starts like this, not
- 13:04Speaker 1: having confidence for someone who is so cool, calm and
- 13:08Speaker 1: collected all the time.
- 13:09Speaker 3: I think he got under his skin a bit this weekend.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yeah, completely agree. He strikes me as someone who likes
- 13:15Speaker 2: things to be just right, Like he's probably going someone
- 13:18Speaker 2: who's like, you know, putting the chairs tucking him under
- 13:20Speaker 2: the table. So they're all that completely right eggles like
- 13:22Speaker 2: everything has to be completely right for him, and when
- 13:25Speaker 2: things get a bit off, like we said in the
- 13:27Speaker 2: sprint with the with the tire thing, there's almost like
- 13:30Speaker 2: a not a sense of injustice, but he's almost he's
- 13:33Speaker 2: so principled about everything that everything has to be right
- 13:36Speaker 2: and just so for him to be in his sweet spot.
- 13:38Speaker 2: He's very woh Lorenzo in that respect, in that he's
- 13:41Speaker 2: just completely metronomic. And we've seen various races this year
- 13:45Speaker 2: that once he gets out front, he's basically impossible to
- 13:48Speaker 2: beat because he just keeps churning laps out time after
- 13:50Speaker 2: time because he's in control of the situation. Where we
- 13:53Speaker 2: talked about Marquez being this great improvisational writer, I think
- 13:56Speaker 2: Peco is someone who knows what he sweet spot is,
- 13:59Speaker 2: tries to get into it, and knows that he's kind
- 14:01Speaker 2: of unbeatable when he gets there. So the whole weekend
- 14:04Speaker 2: everything felt a little bit chaotic, like Friday practice wasn't great.
- 14:07Speaker 2: He managed to get himself into Q two, but it
- 14:09Speaker 2: never felt like he was under control the entire weekend
- 14:12Speaker 2: and was fighting against things that are going wrong. And
- 14:14Speaker 2: you know, maybe what we saw in those two races
- 14:17Speaker 2: was a result of that. But is it interesting you
- 14:19Speaker 2: mentioned with the DNFs we were having this same conversation
- 14:22Speaker 2: last year in Motor GP circles that Martin was the
- 14:25Speaker 2: one who was losing the championship by throwing points away.
- 14:28Speaker 2: You think at the amount of points he chucked away
- 14:30Speaker 2: last year with needless crashes from positions of advantage. It's
- 14:33Speaker 2: almost like they've done a role reversal this year and
- 14:35Speaker 2: Peco's turned into Joge Martin and vice versa, isn't it.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Yeah, you're exactly right. It does kind of feel like
- 14:41Speaker 1: that with Joja Martin just being a little bit more consistent,
- 14:45Speaker 1: comfortable in the situations. But like we said before, we've
- 14:49Speaker 1: got Mazano coming up back to back, so that could
- 14:51Speaker 1: completely change everything. One thing I did find interesting this weekend,
- 14:57Speaker 1: and I asked you this question in our previews, where
- 15:00Speaker 1: do you think the ktms were going to be, and
- 15:01Speaker 1: we're like, na, ktms are not going to do very well.
- 15:04Speaker 1: That's talk about Pedro Acosta, because he really surprised me
- 15:08Speaker 1: this weekend and when I was researching and figuring out
- 15:13Speaker 1: what was different, he actually said that he went back
- 15:16Speaker 1: to the standard settings. There was a while where he
- 15:18Speaker 1: was changing the settings so much and that just felt
- 15:22Speaker 1: like you couldn't connect with the bike and gel with it.
- 15:25Speaker 1: He said, he went back to the standard settings and
- 15:27Speaker 1: just worked on himself. And we've seen a whole new
- 15:29Speaker 1: Pedro a Costa this weekend.
- 15:32Speaker 2: The new Pedro Acosta was a bit like the old
- 15:33Speaker 2: Pedro Acosta that we saw at the start of the
- 15:35Speaker 2: season where we had those two podiums in Portugal in
- 15:38Speaker 2: the America's right at the start of the year. And
- 15:39Speaker 2: what you said then about maybe going back to basics
- 15:42Speaker 2: and working on yourself rather than just throwing things at
- 15:44Speaker 2: the wall with the bike and hoping that some of
- 15:46Speaker 2: them stick. I think that's part of the the evolution
- 15:49Speaker 2: of him as a writer. You know, we forget sometimes
- 15:51Speaker 2: the guy's twenty years old because of how good he is.
- 15:53Speaker 2: But I mentioned before about qualifying defining certain riders weekends,
- 15:58Speaker 2: and he was one because he had to come through
- 16:00Speaker 2: Q one and that kind of made his weekend because
- 16:03Speaker 2: he got to experience the track conditions through Q one,
- 16:06Speaker 2: got through that and then was able to be in
- 16:09Speaker 2: Q two and qualify second. And I think having those
- 16:11Speaker 2: laps in Q one under his belt really unlocked the
- 16:14Speaker 2: confidence that enabled him to put it on the front
- 16:17Speaker 2: row where there were some guys in Q two that
- 16:18Speaker 2: were still trying to find where the track was. He
- 16:21Speaker 2: knew by that stage because he got through Q one,
- 16:23Speaker 2: qualify second, put yourself in a position of advantage. Now,
- 16:27Speaker 2: he wouldn't have finished on the podium if it wasn't
- 16:28Speaker 2: for what happened with Banyora and Alex Marquez on Sunday.
- 16:32Speaker 2: But to grab two podiums out of a weekend which
- 16:34Speaker 2: came two weeks after the worst weekend of his season
- 16:38Speaker 2: at Austria was pretty horrible and he was pretty down
- 16:40Speaker 2: on himself about it. But yeah, you know, you're right.
- 16:43Speaker 2: He was the shining light of the riders on the
- 16:45Speaker 2: RC sixteen. Brad Binda had a pretty strong weekend all
- 16:47Speaker 2: things considered, but a Costa was really good on that bike.
- 16:51Speaker 2: And we mentioned before about the adaptability. We forget because
- 16:54Speaker 2: he's the only rookie in Motor GP. He's coming with
- 16:57Speaker 2: less data than any of these other riders at any
- 17:00Speaker 2: of these tracks, even ones we haven't been to, like
- 17:02Speaker 2: Aragon since twenty two. When you get a hard reset
- 17:06Speaker 2: of a track three straight days. It actually helps what
- 17:09Speaker 2: it mitigates the lack of experience that a Costa has
- 17:12Speaker 2: on motor GP machinery at a new circuit to me,
- 17:15Speaker 2: so that kind of played into his favor as well
- 17:17Speaker 2: in that he's probably more in the Marquees camp of
- 17:19Speaker 2: being an improviser. The fact that the track had a
- 17:22Speaker 2: hard reset for three straight days actually really helped him.
- 17:24Speaker 2: But without coming through Q one and being on that
- 17:27Speaker 2: front row, that's a totally different weekend. So you know,
- 17:30Speaker 2: a not so great Friday probably unlocked a good Saturday
- 17:32Speaker 2: and Sunday for him.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I think yeah.
- 17:34Speaker 1: And like you said, well, Brad Bendo, obviously Jack Miller
- 17:37Speaker 1: had a decent race, which we'll touch on shortly, but
- 17:40Speaker 1: alluding back to the preview episode, I honestly thought that
- 17:43Speaker 1: the apriliers would be really strong here this weekend. I
- 17:48Speaker 1: talk about Maverick and Elish because you need to take
- 17:52Speaker 1: this away from me, Matt, because I don't even know
- 17:54Speaker 1: where to start with those boys.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Well, we both had an absolute shocker because I think we
- 18:00Speaker 2: had Alasias Bargo on the sprint podium, so they didn't
- 18:02Speaker 2: go so well, did it. But Alasias Bargo's main contribution
- 18:06Speaker 2: of the weekend was completely stuffing up the start of
- 18:08Speaker 2: the sprint and cannoning into Fabio de jan Antonio at
- 18:11Speaker 2: turn one and knocking himself to the ground and being
- 18:13Speaker 2: out after one corner. So our predictions A crystal Ball
- 18:16Speaker 2: needs needs to recharge. I think it's not going so well.
- 18:19Speaker 2: But they were horrible at Prillia the entire weekend. Cor
- 18:23Speaker 2: fid okay. Both the track house guys were up in
- 18:26Speaker 2: Q two, so that was pretty decent. But Maverick just
- 18:29Speaker 2: had one of those weekends where he didn't have the grip,
- 18:32Speaker 2: that he didn't have the confidence and he did have
- 18:34Speaker 2: the pace, and then on Sunday he basically parked the
- 18:36Speaker 2: bike after trumbling around at the very back and said
- 18:38Speaker 2: that he couldn't do any more with it. One of
- 18:41Speaker 2: those weekends where he just got in his own head
- 18:42Speaker 2: a little bit and look Alaish tries because Alas always tries.
- 18:46Speaker 2: He tried pretty hard in the in the race itself
- 18:48Speaker 2: and did okay, but they just had absolutely no front
- 18:51Speaker 2: feeling the entire weekend, and we thought Aprillia would probably
- 18:55Speaker 2: be better than KTM in that battle of best for
- 18:57Speaker 2: the rest, So yeah, fair to say we got that
- 18:59Speaker 2: one wrong, and one of those weekends for a prillier
- 19:01Speaker 2: where you just flush it and move on, because everything
- 19:04Speaker 2: that conspired could conspire against them did and yeah, they
- 19:08Speaker 2: were just completely anonymous the whole weekend. Miguel Olivera was
- 19:11Speaker 2: pretty quick out of the four A priliers, but then
- 19:13Speaker 2: he was on the ground after one lap in the
- 19:15Speaker 2: main race, so he would have featured probably in the
- 19:18Speaker 2: back end of the top ten somewhere, but the rest
- 19:21Speaker 2: of them were pretty much nowhere in the sprint through.
- 19:24Speaker 1: What I found fascinating was the first four or five riders.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I think we're all on satellite teams. There was no
- 19:31Speaker 1: factory writer. Was the truckhouse Boys? One of them featured
- 19:36Speaker 1: in that as well, didn't they In the spring?
- 19:38Speaker 2: Well, Oliver and ralpher Anders were both pretty decent in
- 19:41Speaker 2: the spread. Oliver it was much better towards the front.
- 19:43Speaker 2: So yeah, that is interesting, isn't it the satellite thing,
- 19:46Speaker 2: because that's not something that we normally say. And there
- 19:48Speaker 2: were circumstances there with Banyai having a bit of a
- 19:52Speaker 2: chakra in the spring, Bastianini qualifying so far down and
- 19:54Speaker 2: having to fight his way through. But yeah, it was
- 19:57Speaker 2: a strange one, but yeah, jeez, what a forgettable week
- 20:00Speaker 2: that was for a Prillia. That's one of those ones
- 20:01Speaker 2: that there's not a lot of analysis needed for a Prillia.
- 20:04Speaker 2: He just shrunk his shoulders and say, let's just never
- 20:06Speaker 2: do that again and move to Massano.
- 20:08Speaker 3: You mentioned Bashinini there.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Let's just touch on that really quickly because coming from
- 20:13Speaker 1: he won here on the Christini he beat Peco Vannaya
- 20:17Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty two and they were last there, right.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I honestly thought this weekend, being on the factory bike,
- 20:23Speaker 1: he was going to come in full of confidence.
- 20:25Speaker 3: And be a lot stronger.
- 20:26Speaker 1: But it seems like and everybody knows, is Abashanini kind
- 20:30Speaker 1: of similar to Marrick Vinalez.
- 20:32Speaker 3: He just ebbs and flows.
- 20:33Speaker 1: We'll see him super strong one weekend, then another weekend
- 20:36Speaker 1: he's down the back of the field, and that just
- 20:38Speaker 1: seems to be I guess a weakness of his and
- 20:42Speaker 1: why he hasn't been able to retain that factory seat
- 20:44Speaker 1: for next year.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yeah, the gradient of the Bashiinidi rollercoaster, it's not quite
- 20:49Speaker 2: as steep as a video as well, Let's be honest,
- 20:51Speaker 2: but the problem with an AA was, Well, it's two things.
- 20:54Speaker 2: He's not great in terms of qualifying, and he gives
- 20:58Speaker 2: himself too much to do on Sundays and to an extent, Saturdays,
- 21:02Speaker 2: because he's often starting further back than he should be
- 21:04Speaker 2: on the machinery that he's on. But he's also pretty
- 21:06Speaker 2: unlucky to try and get into Q two. On Friday,
- 21:08Speaker 2: he was on a lap that probably would have got
- 21:10Speaker 2: him in there, and then Jack Miller crash at the
- 21:11Speaker 2: last corner. Yellow flags had to have bought the lap,
- 21:14Speaker 2: didn't get a chance for another one, so he's buried
- 21:16Speaker 2: back in the mid pack. And he came forward in
- 21:18Speaker 2: both races because that's what Bastianini does. But yeah, another
- 21:22Speaker 2: one of those weekends that had he manage to qualify
- 21:24Speaker 2: even if he'd been on the first three rows. I
- 21:26Speaker 2: think he's probably pushing up towards the podium spots, but
- 21:29Speaker 2: gave himself too much to do. Fridays are definitely an
- 21:32Speaker 2: issue for him. But yeah, he was on the roller coaster,
- 21:35Speaker 2: but not quite the Maverick roller coaster. Miss Maverick is
- 21:38Speaker 2: his own roller coaster at this point.
- 21:41Speaker 1: All right, guys, now we're going to get to the
- 21:43Speaker 1: juicy business. Let's talk about that crash between a Peko
- 21:47Speaker 1: Vanyaya and Alex market that is totally divining the whole
- 21:51Speaker 1: Moto GP community at the moment, Matt. Was Pecko just
- 21:56Speaker 1: being too optimistic trying to overtake Alex when he was wide?
- 22:00Speaker 1: Was Alex bining off more than he could chew? Were
- 22:03Speaker 1: trying to battle with Peco?
- 22:04Speaker 3: Or was it just a racing incident?
- 22:09Speaker 2: Boy, Let's just say that I have watched this video
- 22:12Speaker 2: probably seventy five times at this point, maybe give or
- 22:14Speaker 2: take about twenty five. It is probably overstating it a
- 22:16Speaker 2: little bit because my initial reaction, I don't know about yours,
- 22:20Speaker 2: was I threw my hands up and thought, Alex Marquez,
- 22:23Speaker 2: what are you doing in this incident? And let's just
- 22:26Speaker 2: say also that Peco was really lucky that he wasn't
- 22:29Speaker 2: more edged after he got trapped under a bike and
- 22:32Speaker 2: dragged off the track into the gravel, which that transition
- 22:35Speaker 2: is always horrible, and he was stuck under the bike,
- 22:37Speaker 2: so he was lucky that he wasn't more hurt. It's
- 22:39Speaker 2: obviously hurt his championship position, which we'll talk about. But
- 22:42Speaker 2: my initial reaction was, what are you doing Alex? Marquez.
- 22:45Speaker 2: This was absolutely nuts. This is an avoidable accident. And
- 22:49Speaker 2: having watched it more and more so, Alex Marquez goes
- 22:52Speaker 2: deep into turn twelve. He didn't run off the track,
- 22:54Speaker 2: which I think is key. He's not just joined from
- 22:56Speaker 2: off the track and crazily taken bag Vanyayra out here.
- 23:00Speaker 2: He's run wide rather than completely off the track. So
- 23:03Speaker 2: to my mind, it seemed it's more careless than it
- 23:07Speaker 2: is dirty, if that makes sense. And there's a delineation
- 23:09Speaker 2: between those two things. And I'm looking at from Banyai's
- 23:13Speaker 2: point of view. Yes, he took his normal racing line,
- 23:17Speaker 2: but I also thought he was so much faster than
- 23:20Speaker 2: Alex Marquez. At this point, there's still six laps left,
- 23:23Speaker 2: so this is not a last lap maneuver where you
- 23:25Speaker 2: need to take that racing line or this might be
- 23:27Speaker 2: your last chance. There was an inevitability for me that
- 23:31Speaker 2: Banyai was going to overtake Alex Marquez at some point,
- 23:33Speaker 2: and it probably would have been down the back straight
- 23:35Speaker 2: within the next lap or two, and the consequences of
- 23:39Speaker 2: that is that he's thrown away sixteen points. It was
- 23:43Speaker 2: a pretty sure fire sixteen points. He wasn't going to
- 23:45Speaker 2: catch Martine in second. He had too much pace for
- 23:48Speaker 2: Alex Marquez and Brad Bender and that group behind him.
- 23:51Speaker 2: So if we're going to carve up a bit of
- 23:54Speaker 2: blame pie here, I love a bit of blame pie.
- 23:56Speaker 2: He'll get used to this. It's not one hundred percent
- 23:59Speaker 2: on Alex Marker, as I probably thought it was when
- 24:01Speaker 2: I first saw it. It's maybe sixty five thirty five.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I just thought it was a little needless by Banal
- 24:08Speaker 2: to put himself in that position because he didn't have
- 24:11Speaker 2: to take that much risk. He was clearly the faster
- 24:13Speaker 2: of the two, and at some point he was going
- 24:16Speaker 2: to pass him because there were enough laps left to
- 24:18Speaker 2: do it. And I think Alex Marquez was more more
- 24:22Speaker 2: careless than dirty. But you know, there was a bit
- 24:25Speaker 2: of discretion that probably needed to be taken there because
- 24:28Speaker 2: he's in a battle. He knows he's in a battle
- 24:30Speaker 2: with a guy. To take the line that he took,
- 24:32Speaker 2: knowing Banya is going to sweep into that next right hand.
- 24:34Speaker 2: It was just a little bit on the careless side.
- 24:36Speaker 2: But as I said before, I reckon Peco's super lucky
- 24:40Speaker 2: that he didn't get a finger caught under a bike
- 24:42Speaker 2: and break a finger or do something to his elbow,
- 24:44Speaker 2: because that when you've got a one hundred and sixty
- 24:46Speaker 2: kilo bike on top of you and you're skidding through
- 24:48Speaker 2: the gravel trap that can go anyway, You've got no
- 24:51Speaker 2: way of deciding how you roll or fall in that situation.
- 24:54Speaker 2: So you know, it's lucky that he's okay about it.
- 24:57Speaker 2: But yeah, it's fair to say that social media got
- 24:59Speaker 2: lit up a a bit on Sunday night and all
- 25:01Speaker 2: through Monday here in Australia. And just to remind you,
- 25:04Speaker 2: Pecko Beano is a Valentino Rossi protege. So let's just
- 25:07Speaker 2: bring up Marquez Rossie Malaysia twenty and fifteen all over again.
- 25:10Speaker 2: And let's just bring that little one out because it's
- 25:12Speaker 2: only been nine years. We haven't talked about it for
- 25:13Speaker 2: a while, have we.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, I'm going to be a bit controversial
- 25:18Speaker 1: here and I'm going to disagree with you. I actually think, yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 1: I know, let's do it. I actually think I actually
- 25:25Speaker 1: think Pecko is that fault for this one.
- 25:27Speaker 3: I think it's a okay, it's my thoughts. Peco overtook Alex.
- 25:33Speaker 1: He knew Alex was there right in his post race interview.
- 25:37Speaker 1: He's saying, but Alex was going at the throttle and
- 25:41Speaker 1: I couldn't see him.
- 25:43Speaker 3: You just passed him.
- 25:45Speaker 1: You knew he was right there, Kay, he ran wide,
- 25:48Speaker 1: But what is someone going to do when they run
- 25:49Speaker 1: wide and they're going to come back in. I think that, yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 1: you were faster, but at the same time you you
- 25:58Speaker 1: weren't necessarily on the racing line either. I think that
- 26:04Speaker 1: Peco was visibly frustrated from the start. He's taking that
- 26:07Speaker 1: aggression out. Then this happened. He didn't want to let go.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Alex didn't want to let go. That then I just
- 26:15Speaker 1: call it a racing incident. But at the same time,
- 26:17Speaker 1: I still think Pecko was the one who kind of
- 26:21Speaker 1: caused it.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Go on that well, yeah, well, I do agree with
- 26:25Speaker 2: what you just said then. In it strikes me that
- 26:27Speaker 2: this was an accident that Pecko could have chosen to avoid,
- 26:30Speaker 2: if that makes sense, because maybe there was an inevita,
- 26:33Speaker 2: there was an inevitability of them coming together. And this
- 26:36Speaker 2: goes back to what I was saying before about his
- 26:37Speaker 2: sort of sense of injustice and being principled and what
- 26:40Speaker 2: have you. It's like, no, I'm going to take more
- 26:41Speaker 2: normal racing line here without potentially considering the consequences of
- 26:46Speaker 2: an accident between the two of them. Now we're talking
- 26:48Speaker 2: about milliseconds and making decisions. But what you just said
- 26:52Speaker 2: before that perhaps he was there was a bit of
- 26:54Speaker 2: embedded frustration about the poor start and the way the
- 26:56Speaker 2: weekend had gone out of his control. But look, Marquez
- 27:00Speaker 2: himself in a position to have the accident, but Peco
- 27:02Speaker 2: decided to not back out of having an accident. But
- 27:05Speaker 2: I think he could have made maybe a more sensible decision,
- 27:08Speaker 2: And I just keep coming back to six laps left.
- 27:11Speaker 2: There was plenty of time to make that position and
- 27:15Speaker 2: just bank those shore fire sixteen points, which would have
- 27:17Speaker 2: been a pretty good salvage job from a pretty ropye weekend.
- 27:20Speaker 2: And here we have a situation now where it would
- 27:23Speaker 2: have been a seven point championship lead for Juorge Martinez
- 27:26Speaker 2: now twenty three. It's pretty significant. So yeah, it looks
- 27:30Speaker 2: certainly an interesting certainly an interesting decision by Peco. Certainly
- 27:35Speaker 2: some good social media fighter for everybody, but this one's
- 27:38Speaker 2: going to run and run. But apparently they did have
- 27:39Speaker 2: a meeting behind closed doors Alex Marquez and Peco on
- 27:43Speaker 2: Sunday night with Atney cameras president and put their point
- 27:45Speaker 2: of view across. So I dare say, once we get
- 27:47Speaker 2: to Massano, they'll probably try and bury this and just
- 27:49Speaker 2: move on. But certainly costly for Peco.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Definitely costly for Peco.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I think that.
- 27:57Speaker 1: It kind of divided also the hole Reta GYP, because
- 28:00Speaker 1: a lot of the Italians didn't want to disagree with
- 28:04Speaker 1: Peco and what he was saying. And then we had
- 28:08Speaker 1: non Italians such as Pedro a Costa or Jack Miller,
- 28:11Speaker 1: who has a longstanding history with the Marcus brothers, shall
- 28:15Speaker 1: we say, who was very open about his thoughts. So
- 28:19Speaker 1: it's interesting how everybody's kind of giving their opinion on
- 28:23Speaker 1: it as well. And like we said, we don't know
- 28:26Speaker 1: what happened at the end. There was a discussion obviously
- 28:29Speaker 1: with the FAM shows where Alex Marquez said he could
- 28:32Speaker 1: see and Peco Banya is like, how could you not see?
- 28:35Speaker 1: But yeah, there was that discussion behind closed doors. We
- 28:37Speaker 1: don't know the outcome of it. I think we're never
- 28:40Speaker 1: going to know the outcome of it. They're just gonna
- 28:42Speaker 1: brush it under the rug, move on and head to Mazzano.
- 28:45Speaker 1: But yet, like you said, it was still crazy scary
- 28:49Speaker 1: for Peco to get stuck under both bikes and then
- 28:52Speaker 1: walk away with literally what he said was a saw
- 28:54Speaker 1: neck and a sore shoulder where nothing was broken, nothing
- 28:58Speaker 1: was damaged, and he could get up straight off. You
- 29:00Speaker 1: don't see those crashes like that too often, and you
- 29:02Speaker 1: don't want to see those crashes like that at all.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Nah, definitely not. And I think, isn't it funny how
- 29:08Speaker 2: I don't know who's the big winner and loser out
- 29:10Speaker 2: of this, but let's tip our cap to the stewards here,
- 29:12Speaker 2: because I didn't mind the fact that they were going
- 29:14Speaker 2: to give someone a long lap penalty or a three
- 29:16Speaker 2: place screen drop or something for Messano, because they came
- 29:19Speaker 2: to the odeological decision and just described it as a
- 29:21Speaker 2: racing incident and moved on. And I don't like racing
- 29:24Speaker 2: incident as a descriptor to me. I think it gets
- 29:27Speaker 2: used a lot of the time when no one can
- 29:28Speaker 2: actually decide what the punishment should be, so everyone just
- 29:30Speaker 2: shrugs their shoulders and goes racing incident and we just
- 29:33Speaker 2: move on. I'm kind of glad that neither of them
- 29:36Speaker 2: have been punished for this, because, yeah, it was really unfortunate,
- 29:39Speaker 2: but it also means we rule a line under it
- 29:40Speaker 2: and we just get on with it from here. We're
- 29:42Speaker 2: not going to be talking about it. Well, we'll be
- 29:44Speaker 2: talking about it on Thursday, let's be honest. But once
- 29:46Speaker 2: we get on track at Massano on Friday and then
- 29:48Speaker 2: perhaps we can just concentrate on the racing.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Yes, So this weekend some writers who I thought did
- 29:55Speaker 1: really well. Alice Rinn's nine on the Yamaha.
- 29:58Speaker 3: That's fantastic.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Alex Rinns, who's had such a terrible few years and
- 30:03Speaker 1: trying to gel with that Yamaha, I think cool to
- 30:05Speaker 1: see him in the top ten.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah, very much.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So.
- 30:08Speaker 2: It was one of those ones that was concentrating so
- 30:10Speaker 2: much on Marques and the celebrations and Peco and Alex
- 30:14Speaker 2: Marquez and what have you, that I looked at the
- 30:15Speaker 2: standings about the result about fifteen minutes after the race
- 30:18Speaker 2: and went well, Alex Rinn's got Jack Miller on the
- 30:20Speaker 2: last slat for ninth and seeing a Yamaha in the
- 30:23Speaker 2: top ten it was a bit like watching Fabio do
- 30:25Speaker 2: so well in the sprint on Saturday. It's weird seeing
- 30:29Speaker 2: a Yamaha up in the top ten. You almost have
- 30:31Speaker 2: to do this double take and go, what there's not
- 30:33Speaker 2: eight decaddies and then perhaps a KTM and in the
- 30:35Speaker 2: top ten. So great weekend for him. We know how
- 30:38Speaker 2: good Alex Rince is because we saw it towards the
- 30:40Speaker 2: end of the Suzuki tenure. He's been so injured for
- 30:43Speaker 2: the best part of two years that we've kind of
- 30:44Speaker 2: forgotten how good the guy is. So a weekend of
- 30:47Speaker 2: progress for each rider on different days for Yamaha, but
- 30:51Speaker 2: nice to see him back up there.
- 30:52Speaker 1: And Takanakagami p. Eleven on the Itametsu Honda recently announced
- 30:59Speaker 1: that he's going to tire did that after we recorded
- 31:02Speaker 1: our pod. Thanks Taker, But I think that it's really
- 31:05Speaker 1: good for him to I get you know, the Hondas
- 31:09Speaker 1: are struggling. We all know that for him to be
- 31:13Speaker 1: almost in the top ten is a phenomenal result for
- 31:17Speaker 1: heading into the remainder of the season.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, not a bad weekend for Honda as far as
- 31:21Speaker 2: twenty twenty four weekends go. We had Zako was fantastic
- 31:24Speaker 2: on Friday, directly into Q two, highest qualification for a
- 31:27Speaker 2: Honda all season. Even Jan Mier managed to score some
- 31:30Speaker 2: points on Sunday, so it was a little bit of
- 31:33Speaker 2: a better weekend, but good result for attacker. He's been
- 31:35Speaker 2: quite decent the last couple of races actually, but maybe
- 31:38Speaker 2: a little bit of the pressure off that he knows
- 31:40Speaker 2: that things are coming to an end at the end
- 31:42Speaker 2: of this season, and he's hugely important for that project
- 31:45Speaker 2: going forward because we know how experience the guy is.
- 31:47Speaker 2: He'll do a lot of his work behind the scenes
- 31:49Speaker 2: next year. They're still at the foot of a very
- 31:52Speaker 2: very steep mountain looking up, wondering how they get to
- 31:54Speaker 2: the top. But certainly a good weekend for him, and yeah,
- 31:58Speaker 2: maybe there'll be a few more before the end of
- 31:59Speaker 2: the season now that he knows he's only got eight
- 32:01Speaker 2: rounds to do.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Exactly, and as always, we've got to touch on our Aussies.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Jack Miller across the line in P. Ten, but that
- 32:09Speaker 1: high oppression fringement meant he got relegated back to P. Fifteen.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Unfortunate for Jack Miller because it was strong for him
- 32:19Speaker 1: to be up there. I mean, obviously the crashes out
- 32:21Speaker 1: helped him, but P. Ten to cross the line, that's
- 32:24Speaker 1: pretty good.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Yeah, LOK tenth would have been his second top ten
- 32:28Speaker 2: of the season had that held, and he was as
- 32:31Speaker 2: he always is when it's very, very sketchy conditions. He
- 32:33Speaker 2: was pretty good at points over the course of the
- 32:35Speaker 2: ARA Gold weekend. He was one of those guys that
- 32:37Speaker 2: probably would have preferred for it just a pretty sketchy
- 32:40Speaker 2: because a bit like Marcus, he gets up to speed
- 32:42Speaker 2: so quickly when the track's very uncertain. There were points
- 32:46Speaker 2: of the weekend that looked pretty decent for Jack, So
- 32:48Speaker 2: fifteenth on paper doesn't sound great. He got it was
- 32:51Speaker 2: unlucky to get devoted so far with that sixteen second
- 32:53Speaker 2: time penalty, but it was better. But he'll certainly want more,
- 32:56Speaker 2: and I think the gap to his teammate Brad Pinner
- 33:00Speaker 2: was probably the more alarming thing. But look, we know
- 33:03Speaker 2: with Massano coming up, and we'll talk about that on
- 33:05Speaker 2: our preview episode later in the week. He's super super
- 33:08Speaker 2: quick at Pisano, always has been. He's brilliant qualifying there.
- 33:11Speaker 2: So maybe there's some better times ahead for Jack after
- 33:13Speaker 2: what happened to Aragon.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Ozzie Center Aegis in Moto two got sixteenth, which I
- 33:19Speaker 1: thought was good. He wasn't super strong this weekend, but
- 33:24Speaker 1: just outside of the points, I think it's still a
- 33:26Speaker 1: learning year for him. In Moto two, so he's had
- 33:30Speaker 1: his highs, he's had his lows this season. I think
- 33:32Speaker 1: going into Mazzano he's been doing testing at a lot
- 33:36Speaker 1: of Italian tracks, so I think for him going into
- 33:38Speaker 1: this weekend coming will be it will be a lot stronger.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Also in Moto.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Three, our Aussie's Joel Kelso P five started on the
- 33:47Speaker 1: green and P five got up to second and then
- 33:50Speaker 1: back to P five and then Jacob Rulstone twenty first
- 33:53Speaker 1: for the weekend after that crazy high side.
- 33:56Speaker 3: That he had during I think it was Q two.
- 33:59Speaker 3: I don't know how he walked away from that one either.
- 34:02Speaker 1: He did say he is feeling pretty battered and bruised
- 34:04Speaker 1: after that.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a nasty one right at the start
- 34:08Speaker 2: of Q two on his first lapper. Is what are
- 34:10Speaker 2: those ones that you pull yourself back from the screen
- 34:11Speaker 2: to go? That's going to hurt. So, yeah, disappointing weekend
- 34:15Speaker 2: for him. He's sort of lost he's momentum a little bit.
- 34:18Speaker 2: He's only he's got four points in the last five
- 34:19Speaker 2: races now, so hopefully things get back on track for Jacob.
- 34:23Speaker 2: He's falling to fifteenth in the World Championship, but Kelso's race again.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Just you know, it's becoming pretty routine for Joel to
- 34:30Speaker 2: qualify incredibly well. Sometimes he fades a fair bit back
- 34:33Speaker 2: for where he's qualified, so to start finish fifth bit
- 34:37Speaker 2: lonely in a bit of a strange race where I
- 34:38Speaker 2: think the Moto three guys had the worst of the
- 34:41Speaker 2: track conditions on Sunday because it was still a bit
- 34:43Speaker 2: damp in parts, but match Diseason best from Portugal and
- 34:46Speaker 2: her wrath with finishing fifth and he was pretty strong,
- 34:49Speaker 2: and yeah, center ageous. I think the thing for Center
- 34:52Speaker 2: on the weekend qualifying is twenty fourth on the grid.
- 34:54Speaker 2: And it was a weird weekend for Moto two because
- 34:56Speaker 2: we saw Sergio Ghuslia, the championship leader, have an absolute
- 35:00Speaker 2: shaker and was right down on the back. So it
- 35:01Speaker 2: was one of those strange weekends for Moto two. He
- 35:04Speaker 2: moved forward in the race, but as you said, just
- 35:06Speaker 2: outside about half a second outside the point, so did
- 35:09Speaker 2: reasonably well from where he started, but his weekend was
- 35:12Speaker 2: kind of defined by what happened on Saturday.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I think, well, guys, that's all the time we have
- 35:17Speaker 1: for Mono GP pit Hook, But like we said, we're
- 35:20Speaker 1: going to be back later. This week to preview, and
- 35:23Speaker 1: Matt has challenged me to say this the Grand Primo
- 35:27Speaker 1: Red Bull di San Marino Adela Riviera di Rimini at
- 35:30Speaker 1: World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I did it.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Want that the accent though, I want the accent for
- 35:36Speaker 2: next time. And it's a good job that we've got
- 35:38Speaker 2: an extended time on this podcast, because that's allast the
- 35:40Speaker 2: episode right there. You could just say the name of
- 35:42Speaker 2: the event of where it is, and that's all we've
- 35:44Speaker 2: got time for this week. So well done. I expect
- 35:46Speaker 2: the Italian accent will be better by the end of
- 35:48Speaker 2: the week though.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll work on it for you guys, but don't forget.
