- 2:35it out, is what we're saying. Hey, do you want to dive
- 2:36into these cases? I would love to. I got Judy, Judy,
- 2:38Judy, I got Alex Alex Alex, and uh, mine's really quick.
- 2:43Okay, it's a real quick. Sting's kind of quick. Too. Okay,
- 2:46you want to go first? You want me? Let me go first?
- 2:47You first sight of Alex Um. We love Judge Allen love j Alex
- 2:53uh and I love Josh Alex because he's been on the show Josh. I
- 2:57love Judge Alex because he's a funny boy. He's a funny boy. Now
- 3:00he's got a couple of comedians here, but he's gonna hang with him.
- 3:02Don't you worry about it, dan Um, I want to introduce you to
- 3:07the plaintiff. His name is Shawn Boyd. Sean Sean Boyd is a comedian
- 3:10and he is suing for four thousand dollars for performance fees unpaid by the defendant,
- 3:16Philip dent Philip Dentz Philip d d as exactly right now. Sean is
- 3:23a comedian from Cleveland, oh h oh um, and he has been traveling
- 3:30around doing comedy for a while. It is his thing. And he has
- 3:36a friend whose name is Ben. Now, Ben is a witness for mister
- 3:42Boyd in this case. But Ben is also the one who originally introduced Sean
- 3:47to Philip. Okay, so he knew Philip introduced Philip to Sean, and
- 3:52then they kind of you know, struck up some sort of relationship. Now,
- 3:55um, Sean, uh, Sean want Basically, Philip um asked Sean,
- 4:02Hey, would you be willing to put together a lineup for a show.
- 4:05Okay, I got a guy who wants some comedians to come in,
- 4:10So let's do something. You get some comedians, you can headline, you
- 4:14do thirty minutes. It'll be big, it'll be big fun. Okay.
- 4:17So um, basically, they have an hour and a half show and he's
- 4:21gonna bring in the comedians, he'll headline. Uh, he's gonna make the
- 4:26flyers. He's gonna get the tickets sold, and they are gonna do a
- 4:30split of the ticket sales fifty fifty fifty fifty tickets fifty. Now, Philip
- 4:36says, untrue, Okay, we were gonna split it. Uh. He
- 4:42doesn't know how to do math. So originally he said we're gonna do twenty
- 4:46twenty four and uh. And Alex is like, do you mean you're gonna
- 4:50do a third apiece? He's like, yes, the bartender is getting a
- 4:54third Okay, So there's three people. M is there any written thing written
- 5:00down? We'll get to Okay, So four hundred people show up to the
- 5:03show, twenty dollars a pop, eight thousand dollars at the door, a
- 5:09little all right, so um, he brings up his his buddy, Ben
- 5:13Palmer. Now, Ben Palmer, he is a I'll just you know,
- 5:19he's a lanky fella and just awkward and there's a good chance he's high.
- 5:25And uh. He was the opener. Okay, okay, he was gonna
- 5:30do twenty minutes at the front and Sean told him that he was going to
- 5:33pay him one thousand dollars out of out of Um, so very nice for
- 5:40twenty minutes, and he said he did great rush um. Now, Phillips
- 5:45says he did not do great, just nothing. Going thirty to forty people
- 5:49got up and walked out. Ten percent ten percent of the audience was like
- 5:55not at to this guy because he was picking on the crowd. Um he
- 5:59uh, Phil says, hey, Ben, how about you tell the precious
- 6:02joke? And apparently he did a joke about precious and there was a woman
- 6:09in the front row that got upset and he said, oh, you're probably
- 6:13upset because you are oh my god. Now, um, Sean says,
- 6:23uh, Sean's like listen. Everyone loved it. After after the show.
- 6:27After everyone did the comedy Iro and a half show, a bunch of people
- 6:30came up said they loved the show. We got a bunch of Facebook follows
- 6:34afterwards. People were loving, loving the comedy. And uh, Philip is
- 6:41like, that is just not true. Um, people kept coming up.
- 6:46I had to give out some refunds. I gave everybody a free drink.
- 6:50Everybody got a free to make everybody happier because of how bad the comedy was.
- 6:55That's what he says. I think Philip says that he had to give
- 7:01four thousand dollars to the owner of the venue. What neither of these people
- 7:06own the venue, Philip and own the venue. He's just he's a promoter.
- 7:10He's a promoter, so he gets the venue. Um. So there
- 7:15is a contract, and in this contract it says that they will split it
- 7:21fifty twenty four. Says they'll split it fifty fifty in the contract. It's
- 7:27written down. So I don't know, not after the gate, not not
- 7:30after not after paying the venue. It's fifty percent of the door So the
- 7:35ticket sales. Yeah, Um, and I guess the bartender gets to keep
- 7:40his tips? Would be how that would typically work? Um, Philip claims
- 7:45that the offensive jokes void the contracts because of how much money I had to
- 7:50give up? Is that to make people happy? But he also said they
- 7:55were going to go twenty four twenty four, twenty four Phillips a dufus he
- 8:00um And uh so he's very you know, he's upset people were getting upset.
- 8:07Um and he I don't know where the owner would money's I don't know
- 8:11where the owner's money was supposed to come from. That's not in the contract.
- 8:15The contract just basically state said it will be a fifty fifty split at
- 8:18the of the door sales between Sean and fill up. And now it's time
- 8:24for judge X roll. Yeah, it's clearly four thousand dollars for cl Clint
- 8:26or Sean or Dave what's his name is Sean Big Sean? Four thousand dollars
- 8:31for Sean. Philip's wrong shown his right. It's in the contract split fifty
- 8:35fifty. I don't know what you want for me. This is a no
- 8:37brainer, Judge Jogs says. Listen comedy always offends somebody. Yeah. I
- 8:43was at a comedy show once and I got picked on, and I thought
- 8:46it was hilarious. I did arrest him afterwards, big lass from the crowd,
- 8:52alex Um. But someone's always gonna get offended. You got you gotta
- 8:56work that in. You gotta figure that out. Four thousand dollars. Yeah,
- 8:58no, mister boyd, what you think's going to happen here? I
- 9:01don't know what Philip thought. Come in hot with twenty four twenty four,
- 9:05twenty four it's on you. He's like, he what he said though specifically
- 9:11was uh, it was not fifty percent, And Joe Joggs goes, what
- 9:16wasn't He was like twenty four three and he's like, are you trying to
- 9:20say split three ways? And he's like yeah, and he's like, okay,
- 9:24so so third thirty three and third would be split three ways twenty four
- 9:35three? You know, figure it out twenty four three now now Ben,
- 9:41uh, my boy, Ben Palmer. Uh, he gets his one K
- 9:45baby, I guess he's gonna get that one. He's just over they're doing
- 9:50pressure checks. We also got to see a little bit of Sean's comedy work.
- 9:54We had a video of some coming not funny funny. Yeah, but
- 9:58he got three thousand dollars so and he got publicity. It strikes me as
- 10:01the they browth lying to a certain extent, like I guarantee you the comedy
- 10:05show did not go great as Shawan says it did, and and as u
- 10:09Ben says it did, and I guarantee you it wasn't a disaster like Philip
- 10:13says it was. It's somewhere in between. Well, all because we've been
- 10:16we've done comedy shows before, technically speaking in bars and stuff. All I'm
- 10:20saying though, is like to get in four hundred people, that's a lot
- 10:24of like, yeah, that's a big bull. So you gotta at least
- 10:26have some sort of skill, That's right. You can't like, I don't
- 10:28wonder people didn't stick around for just time. I don't know four hundred people
- 10:33to invite us to something. So that has to have some sort of he
- 10:35has to have some sort of following. Sean Boyd, So shout to Sean
- 10:37Boyd. Shout out to Sean. I'm gonna take a quick let's do let's
- 10:41do it here on yo, Gavel Gavel is back. We had an Alex
- 10:54and now start for Judy. We haven't done a Judy in the Judy in
- 10:58a while. You're not a Judy fan? Yeah, And every time I
- 11:01want to give her another shot. I think I just need to go find
- 11:05old because new like the newer episodes of Judy are just her talking the whole
- 11:11time. Sure, I imagine it's how those people feel about me on deck
- 11:15the home, like it's like there are other things to do here. It's
- 11:18never like you never she she just tells the story and then ask for confirmation
- 11:24for the whole thing. And it's like she's got places the story, she's
- 11:30got the whole report. She's just going through it and does this happen?
- 11:31Does this happen? And if they say anything that's even remotely not on the
- 11:35paper, she dives in and then just cuts them off at the pass over
- 11:39and over again. And it's just it's just not it's just not my thing,
- 11:43and tell me the story. Okay. Justin Hodge, Justin Hodge is
- 11:48suing his mom, Caroline, Caroline with a seat. It's a different.
- 11:52Last thing. You hate to see that. Sixteen hundred bucks yeah yeah,
- 11:58yeah for a broken foe, uh, illegal eviction, return of property,
- 12:03and moving costs. All of those things are in his suit. How much
- 12:07again? Sixteen honda against his mom? All right, Justin looks like one
- 12:11of James McAvoy's characters from Split Um and he I don't. I don't know
- 12:18if we can make fun of him or not. He is very serious about
- 12:22this, but I think he might also be probably on the spectrum. Um.
- 12:26He does not call he calls judge judy, just the word honor all
- 12:31time, yes, honor, no honor, never your honor, always honor,
- 12:37say anything. She never says anything. He also starts every sentence with
- 12:41basically, so basically and every time she corrects him, not basically tell me
- 12:46what happened, And he can't. He can't. It's like a tick.
- 12:50He can't stay. Yeah. Um, so he was born in September of
- 12:54two thousand and one. Everybody feel old just yet that he can sue for
- 12:56eviction. Yeah, that's when I graduated high school. Um. And for
- 13:01he lived the first thirteen years of his life with his aunt since he was
- 13:05three months old. Um uh no, no, no, no, no.
- 13:09It actually wasn't in bell Air but close different Auntie. Um. And
- 13:11he did that with the approval of the mom. The mom agreed to that.
- 13:16Uh, the aunt got aunt got uh guardianship. We know what's going
- 13:22on with the mom. You don't know, but she agreed and she was
- 13:24fine with it. Um at age thirteen, Uh, the aunt said she
- 13:28was moving to Louisiana. They're currently in organ Mom's losing our aunt is losing
- 13:33to moving to Louisiana. I'll get it here. It comes and she gives
- 13:39him the choice, you can move with me to Louisiana, or you can
- 13:43move back in with your mom and live with her here in Oregon. He
- 13:46chooses to move back in with his mom in Oregon. Interesting, and Mom
- 13:52was okay, that was great with it, said, have you ever stayed
- 13:54with your mom? Yes? I would spend the night there on weekends,
- 13:56especially when I was younger and then growing up. I would do occasion,
- 14:00but on weekends we were fine. Never an issue. So Um sometime into
- 14:05their Clearly he lived there for six years, so when he was nineteen or
- 14:09eighteen, I guess, because this happened in nineteen. In October of ninth
- 14:13September of nineteen, they got in a huge fight with each other. They
- 14:20called the police. His phone was broken. Do we know about what we're
- 14:24gonna get there? His phone was broken, and he his computer screen was
- 14:30cracked, and his computer. She kept his computer and wouldn't give it back
- 14:33to him, and he still has closed there and he wants all that back.
- 14:35The screen was cracked, but the phone would still turn on the phone.
- 14:41We'll put unpack it right now. It's probably a bad way to do
- 14:43it, but that's how they did it in the court. So Judy says,
- 14:45okay, first of all, you're nineteen. You live in your mother's
- 14:48house. You're not a tenant. Do you have a job. Do you
- 14:50pay rent? And he says yes, and she says I have here.
- 14:54You got fired from your job in March. He said, I did,
- 14:58but they hired me back because they had staffing issues. They hired me back
- 15:01in September and he said. She said, but you left by October first,
- 15:05so you were not working or paying rent from March to September. And
- 15:07he said no, I was not paying rent for those six months, nor
- 15:11had he ever. I think the plan was for him in his head,
- 15:15but he never actually did it. She said, so you're not a tenant,
- 15:18you're her son who bought you the phone. He said, my mom
- 15:20bought me the phone. And she says, okay, that sounds very nice
- 15:24of her. How did she break it? And he said, well,
- 15:26we're in this big fight, and I'm texting my aunt that I'm going to
- 15:30move back with her, and Mom takes the phone and throws it against the
- 15:33wall. Phone goes up against the wall. It no longer will plug in
- 15:39or charge at all. So and then Judy says, okay, well it
- 15:43says here that you picked up a frying pan. Wow, okay, And
- 15:50he said, yes, honor, I did did pick up. Why did
- 15:54you pick up a frying pan? It was for my own protection. My
- 15:56mom was coming after me. Yes. Did she hit you? No,
- 16:00but she was coming after me. Why was she coming after you? Well,
- 16:04she turned off the air condition, and I turned it back on.
- 16:07Uh. And the thing about our house is is that the air condition and
- 16:11the heat, when you turn it on, it goes throughout the house.
- 16:15That is a thing, that is the thing in there. So yeah,
- 16:18so they might have they might have a thing called central central heating and air.
- 16:22I believe it's what that's called. She turned it off. I wanted
- 16:26to turn it back on. She was cold, wanted it off, and
- 16:30so I got She got upset that I turned it back on. She turned
- 16:33it off. I got mad at her. I hit the floor a few
- 16:37times with the frying pan. And then I threw the frying pan on the
- 16:38floor, and Judge Judy says, okay, uh, did you damage the
- 16:44floor? He said no uh, And she said, then you called the
- 16:47police and he said no, the neighbor overheard us and probably the frying pan,
- 16:52and the neighbor called the police. Sure. So Judge Judy at this
- 16:55point says, okay, she's not even talked to the mom yet, not
- 16:59even talked to them mom. Mom's just over there. Aside from confirming when
- 17:02he moved in. The mom's just like yeah. Uh. The judge says,
- 17:04okay, uh, police report, we got a police report. No,
- 17:10don't have a police report. The kid says, I do have two
- 17:14evidence. I have cut and then he says I have two evidence, and
- 17:18then he says I have couple evidence and she says police report. And he
- 17:22says, no, I don't have the police report. I have evidence about
- 17:25my computer, and she says, what's the evidence. He said, okay,
- 17:27So I have a computer I bought with my own money, and then
- 17:30I had a screen a monitor that I would plug my computer in to watch
- 17:34my movies. That's what he said. When I came back to get all
- 17:37my stuff, The screen was cracked, the computer was nowhere to be found.
- 17:41Uh, And judge says, well, why didn't you take that stuff
- 17:44with you? It seems pretty important. Well, I left, my friend
- 17:45picked me up from my house. I left, I had to come right
- 17:48after. That's right, that's right, that's right. So um, she
- 17:52said, you purchased the computer with your own money? He said, yeah,
- 17:56she did you ever receive No? I paid in cash. Where'd you
- 17:57get the cash? She didn't have a job. I purchased it with cash,
- 18:02three hundred dollars from Target. I got the cash from my friend.
- 18:06She says, the friend have a name, Yes, he does, doesn't
- 18:08give the name, she says. She says, is your friend dead?
- 18:12He says, no, the friend's not dead. Then I'd love his name.
- 18:15And he says, my friend's name is Devin. She says, do
- 18:18you still see Devin? And he said yes, but we get an argument
- 18:22sometimes, So we're taking a break from talking to each other right now.
- 18:26Yeah, you have to, and that's just good for your mental health.
- 18:30And she said, well, how good of a friend is he? He
- 18:32said, he picked Devin, picked me up when I had the fight and
- 18:33took me away like I wish Devin was here, and she said, Devin
- 18:37picked you up after the fight, gave you three hundred dollars. Why did
- 18:41you stop talking to him? That doesn't make any sense the case, but
- 18:45I'm very invested him. Yeah. Judy finally pivots to Christine the mom and
- 18:51says, hey, wait, White, stop talking to Devin. Said,
- 18:52just we get in fights sometimes, so we're just taking a break from So
- 18:56we're taking a break, honor. You wouldn't get it, said, I
- 19:00have I have a couple, a couple evidence. Uh. Christine says,
- 19:03Look, I'm the one that paid for the laptop. What is Rick?
- 19:07Can you like? What is Christine like? Can you paint a picture of
- 19:10Christie? She's pretty, she's pretty, dumpy, she's she's very she's pretty.
- 19:15She strike you as someone who has had a drug problem. I think
- 19:18that there was a reason that she couldn't keep the kids initially. Um,
- 19:22she seems very mild mannered in court. She's not well spoken either at all.
- 19:27Yeah, she's very just. I don't know what else to subscribers.
- 19:30Right, Um, she says, your honor, I paid for the laptop.
- 19:34I have it with me in my possession right now. I don't know
- 19:38him anything. She says, I paid for it. I paid for it.
- 19:41And Judy says, where did you pay for the laptop? And she
- 19:44goes, um Walmart? Says um, Walmart? Right? Um? How
- 19:51much did you pay for it? Where does anyone get anything a lot like?
- 19:52She says, like two hundred dollars? Uh? And she says you
- 19:56have a laptop with it. She says yes. Um, did Devin give
- 19:59her the money? And she says no, that would be great. That
- 20:03came back in she said, did you give the phone or the laptop?
- 20:07No? No, did you give the laptop to your son as a gift?
- 20:10And she said yes I did. Judge Judy ready to rule. Can
- 20:17you give me that breakdown again? Number one? Um, it's sixteen hundred
- 20:21dollars. We don't get into the specific We don't get into specifics because he
- 20:25wants the laptop or the money, which he says is three hundred. He
- 20:27wants the laptop, wants the laptop, or the money he wants moving costs.
- 20:33We never get in the specifics, the moving costs, he wants a
- 20:36new the money for the phone. We don't hear the exact total. I
- 20:38think what's going to happen if he's fine with either one. I think since
- 20:41the computer is there, she seems like she's willing to give it up,
- 20:45Like why else should we would she bring it. I think she's doing that
- 20:49to avoid paying money. And so I think he will get the laptop,
- 20:53since it was a gift in the first place anyways, But I also think
- 20:59we will get some sort of lecture about you know, responsibility. Yeah,
- 21:03you nailed it, she says, yeah, you're the gifts. It's a
- 21:07gift. You gotta give the laptop back to him, a son, You're
- 21:08gonna get the laptop back. Um. And then she says, listen,
- 21:12your mother turns off the AC. It's her prerogative. It's her house.
- 21:15Your mother owned as long as you're a teenager. This is not this is
- 21:18not legal what she said. As long as you're a teenager living in your
- 21:22mother's house, she owns the air that you breathe. And when he turns
- 21:29twenty, well, I know, my thing is is nineteen. It's nineteen.
- 21:33That's just not accurate. Well, I judge, I know you wanted
- 21:37to be accurate, Judy, but it's not I mean, when you were
- 21:40growing up, maybe back in the guilded age. I just you know,
- 21:47there you have it all, it all done, gets the laptop back,
- 21:48nothing else. Man, I just there's so much about them as humans that
- 21:55I have so many questions about. Yeah. There, it's a strange.
- 21:57It's an odd couplet about debt. Like it hurts me to my core that
- 22:03Devin wasn't invited. Like, I hope that he's repaired his relationship with Devin,
- 22:07you know what I mean, Just it's not just me Devin, Yeah,
- 22:14yeah, yeah, I want him to have some friends. He clearly
- 22:18was upset and thought he could do this with no evidence. He was very
- 22:22much confident in the courtroom that he was going to get all this money,
- 22:26and it was clear from the get go, like he just didn't have a
- 22:29chance. Was he disappointed that he didn't get any money. No. In
- 22:32fact, on the after show, he apologizes to her and she says,
- 22:37apology, accepted your honor? All right, we did it, everybody?
- 22:45Those are those are two good ones. There. You've got um a little
- 22:48bit more Gabel coming at you this December. Are we taking time off for
