- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. It's episode 225, and I was just thinking about our last episode at the zoo. Luna: Oh yeah, the zoo. I still remember how to say monkey, huh. Lucas: Exactly. But today, I thought we'd go somewhere a bit quieter: the bookstore. Luna: Ooh, I love bookstores. In Spain, they have so many little shops. I'm ready for some bookish Spanish. Lucas: Perfect. So let's start with the most useful question you'll ask: Do you have books in Spanish? Lucas: Listen closely. ¿Tienen libros en español? Luna: ¿Tienen libros en español? Lucas: Great. You got that. It means: Do you have books in Spanish? You can use it in any bookstore. Luna: That's super practical. I'd say that right when I walk in. Lucas: Definitely. Now imagine you're looking for a specific book. You might say: Estoy buscando un libro. Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. I'm looking for a book. Lucas: Perfect. And if you add what you're looking for, like a mystery novel, you could say: Estoy buscando un libro de misterio. But we'll keep it simple today. Luna: Got it. So what if I'm not sure yet? I just want to browse. Lucas: Ah, that's a common situation. You can say: Solo estoy mirando. Luna: Solo estoy mirando. Just looking. Lucas: Yes. That's polite and clear. Now, let's say you want a recommendation. You can ask: ¿Me puede recomendar un libro? Luna: ¿Me puede recomendar un libro? Can you recommend a book? Lucas: Excellent. That's a great way to get a local's favorite. And finally, when you've decided, you need to ask the price: ¿Cuánto cuesta este libro? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta este libro? How much is this book? Lucas: Perfect. Let's practice them all together. I'll say them one by one, and you repeat after me. Lucas: ¿Tienen libros en español? Luna: ¿Tienen libros en español? Lucas: Estoy buscando un libro. Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. Lucas: Solo estoy mirando. Luna: Solo estoy mirando. Lucas: ¿Me puede recomendar un libro? Luna: ¿Me puede recomendar un libro? Lucas: ¿Cuánto cuesta este libro? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta este libro? Lucas: Amazing. Now let's put them into a little scene. Imagine you walk into a cozy bookstore in Madrid. Luna: Okay, I'm there. I see shelves and shelves of books. Lucas: You go to the counter and ask: ¿Tienen libros en español? Luna: ¿Tienen libros en español? Lucas: The clerk says yes, and you add: Estoy buscando un libro. Luna: Estoy buscando un libro. Lucas: Then, because you're not sure, you say: Solo estoy mirando. Luna: Solo estoy mirando. Lucas: And you ask for a suggestion: ¿Me puede recomendar un libro? Luna: ¿Me puede recomendar un libro? Lucas: Finally, you find one you like, so you ask: ¿Cuánto cuesta este libro? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta este libro? Lucas: That's the whole flow. You just went from entering to buying in Spanish. Luna: That feels so doable now. I'm actually getting excited to try it in a real bookstore. Lucas: Right? And that's the beauty of these small steps. They add up.
