Thursday, September 24th: Hebrews 12:18–24 contrasts the fear and distance of Mount Sinai with the welcome and celebration of Mount Zion. Sinai revealed God’s holiness and humanity’s need for a mediator, while Zion shows what Jesus has accomplished by bringing us near to God. Through Christ, believers have come to the heavenly Jerusalem, the joyful gathering of God’s people, and the Judge who welcomes us because justice has been satisfied.
