- 0:25Speaker 1: out also that we have one more early season basketball
- 0:32Speaker 1: edition of Long Worn Weekly with Rodney Terry next Thursday,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and it'll be live at six o'clock. Like the prior
- 0:39Speaker 1: to shows that we did, there's not one tonight but
- 0:43Speaker 1: next Thursday at six live. So six o'clock on Wednesday
- 0:48Speaker 1: for the recording of Long Worn Weekly with Coach Sark.
- 0:52Speaker 1: It'll be coming off the Florida game and previewing the
- 0:54Speaker 1: Arkansas game and then the very next day, which is
- 0:58Speaker 1: one week from tonight, Thursday, the fourteenth, an early season
- 1:02Speaker 1: basketball addition a Longhorn Weekly with Rodney Terry. It'll be
- 1:05Speaker 1: coming off the long Horns home opener and the game
- 1:09Speaker 1: next Tuesday and home against Chicago State before they get
- 1:12Speaker 1: ready for their next action, which would be on Saturday,
- 1:16Speaker 1: a Mississippi Valley State, while the long Horn football team
- 1:18Speaker 1: is up in Chicago. Also programmer minder Texas women's basketball
- 1:22Speaker 1: opens its season. Their first game of the year will
- 1:26Speaker 1: be this Sunday afternoon, two o'clock at Moody Center. I
- 1:29Speaker 1: hope you can make it out for that, cam and
- 1:31Speaker 1: I will be out there as the Longhorns will be
- 1:34Speaker 1: playing host to Southeast Missouri State. So that'll be Sunday
- 1:38Speaker 1: afternoon at two o'clock. You can hear it on one
- 1:40Speaker 1: three point one FM, Austin's eighties station, so I have
- 1:44Speaker 1: that as well. So a couple of programming notes for
- 1:47Speaker 1: you there. We'll go back to college football and we'll
- 1:49Speaker 1: have some more comments coming from head coach Steve Sarkisian
- 1:55Speaker 1: coming up at the next segment.
- 1:58Speaker 2: But some other college football note.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We told you the last hour about Scott Strickland, the
- 2:04Speaker 1: athletic director of Florida kind of sending an open letter
- 2:07Speaker 1: online at Florida Gators dot com to penned to as
- 2:11Speaker 1: he says Gator Nation that the way described it as
- 2:15Speaker 1: billion Napier will continue as our football coach because there
- 2:19Speaker 1: have been a lot of speculation and you know what
- 2:22Speaker 1: might happen in water and all this kind of stuff.
- 2:23Speaker 1: But this Florida team has played better. Sarkis pointed that
- 2:27Speaker 1: out both in his media availabilities and in long run Weekly.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Last night we were recorded in again you can hear
- 2:32Speaker 1: it tonight where he talks about Florida as well. So
- 2:37Speaker 1: Scott Strickland, the athletic director, said billion Napier will continue
- 2:41Speaker 1: as head football coach of the Gators, who are looking
- 2:47Speaker 1: and playing better and with more confidence of late. They
- 2:51Speaker 1: had the twenty twenty game with Georgie in the fourth
- 2:54Speaker 1: quarter seven minutes to go before the Bulldogs scored two
- 2:57Speaker 1: touchdowns to pull away.
- 2:59Speaker 2: They had beat in.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Kentucky, they took Tennessee into overtime in Knoxville. So it's
- 3:06Speaker 1: a team that's definitely playing better in the second half
- 3:09Speaker 1: of the season, and that's what the War Orange will encounter.
- 3:11Speaker 1: We'll hear more from sart coming up here in the
- 3:12Speaker 1: next segment. Other college football notes. Did you see who
- 3:21Speaker 1: committed to s m U yesterday?
- 3:24Speaker 2: I did? Do we feel old? Because I do? Yeah?
- 3:28Speaker 1: Stop it every time you do, yeah, it kind of
- 3:32Speaker 1: bothers and we talk about how it's oh, it wasn't
- 3:34Speaker 1: my generation. Stop you're that it wasn't my generation. This
- 3:40Speaker 1: is your generation right now.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I don't want to claim it though, well to claim.
- 3:46Speaker 1: It anyway, uh Coleer Yeah, yeah, son of Matt Lionert,
- 3:56Speaker 1: committed to s m U yesterdays from Redondo Union High School.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I think at the same high school as as Malachai
- 4:04Speaker 2: Nelson or kill Williams. Yeah and yeah, and.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Not currently rated by ESPN, But he did have several
- 4:15Speaker 1: Power four offers and picked the Mustangs over Colorado, Arizona
- 4:18Speaker 1: and Utah to become the second member of Rhett Lashley's
- 4:23Speaker 1: twenty twenty six class.
- 4:26Speaker 2: So he'll be going to SMU, and.
- 4:28Speaker 1: SMU is on a good role right now. The Mustangs
- 4:34Speaker 1: with their highest rankings since nineteen eighty five, and that
- 4:38Speaker 1: was you know, pre death penalty. And you know, though
- 4:44Speaker 1: they are in line to be able to play in
- 4:47Speaker 1: the ACC Championship game if they closed out, as we
- 4:50Speaker 1: mentioned what, they've got three games remaining against three four
- 4:53Speaker 1: and four teams, teams that are four and four right now. Anyway,
- 4:57Speaker 1: starting with this week with Boston College and and they have
- 5:00Speaker 1: or is it next week they have a bye week
- 5:02Speaker 1: this week and then play next week. But anyway, the
- 5:03Speaker 1: Boston College, Virginia, and there's one more game and they're
- 5:06Speaker 1: all against teams that are four and for Maybe it's
- 5:10Speaker 1: Virginia Tech.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I can't remember, but they it can't be Virginia Tech.
- 5:13Speaker 2: They play Virginia that week. But SMU does have that close.
- 5:18Speaker 2: I'll tell you right now. They have looking at their schedule.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Boston College, Virginia and col and they play two of
- 5:28Speaker 1: those three games at home. All three of those teams
- 5:30Speaker 1: are four and four BC. And it's not this Saturday.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Like I said, they have an open day, they have
- 5:37Speaker 1: a bye this week. Then they have BC, Boston College
- 5:40Speaker 1: and home on the sixteenth, They go to Virginia on
- 5:43Speaker 1: the twenty third, and they play Cow at home on
- 5:45Speaker 1: November thirtieth. If they win those three games, they will
- 5:50Speaker 1: be in the ACC Championship game. They will guarantee be
- 5:54Speaker 1: in it because they haven't lost a conference game. Same
- 5:58Speaker 1: holds for Miami, which has not lost a conference game.
- 6:04Speaker 1: The Hurricanes like at Georgia Tech. Is it a trap
- 6:08Speaker 1: game at Georgia Tech, as they say in Star Wars?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Is it? Then they wake Forest at home and they
- 6:15Speaker 2: finish at Syracuse.
- 6:17Speaker 3: With that schedule, if like every game is a trap game, right,
- 6:21Speaker 3: I mean, hey, they were down the duke in that
- 6:24Speaker 3: second half. I know they're undefeated, and you know you
- 6:28Speaker 3: want to reward undefeated teams. But is there a win
- 6:33Speaker 3: on that on that schedule for Miami that you think
- 6:36Speaker 3: is better than any win Texas has. I mean, I
- 6:38Speaker 3: guess you want to give them.
- 6:39Speaker 2: The road win at Louisville is good. That's it. Louisville.
- 6:42Speaker 2: That's a good one, all right. Otherwise mm yeah, so, uh,
- 6:48Speaker 2: we'll see.
- 6:48Speaker 1: But if they went out, they will be in the
- 6:51Speaker 1: a SEC Championship. If my and and and the By
- 6:55Speaker 1: the way, if you were to get inside the minds
- 6:58Speaker 1: of those who are directing the a SEC, you know what,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you know what, you would find that they want Miami
- 7:05Speaker 1: to goun defeated the rest of the regular season. As
- 7:08Speaker 1: them you to go on beating the rest of the
- 7:10Speaker 1: regular season, then they want you to beat Miami the
- 7:13Speaker 1: a SEC championship because if Miami goes unbeating the rest
- 7:16Speaker 1: of the regular season, they're going to be in the playoff.
- 7:19Speaker 1: You think, so, no matter what they do in the
- 7:21Speaker 1: AEC chip, they won't fall far enough out of twelve
- 7:25Speaker 1: to get there. They're in the top five now, and
- 7:28Speaker 1: if they were unbeaten in the top five and lose
- 7:31Speaker 1: one game, they're not going to fall all the way
- 7:33Speaker 1: out of twelve.
- 7:35Speaker 2: So what about Alabama with four losses? Stop it, stop it.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Four losses won't get them there three mit, Mike, that
- 7:48Speaker 1: was the thing. Heather Dinnach pointed out, Yeah, they could,
- 7:51Speaker 1: they could.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Which goes against what Paul Finebam said. Yeah, elimination game, right, Yeah,
- 7:57Speaker 3: the world's going to end. Yeah, Sorday, Actually it's his take. Yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 3: Alabama loses. I think if no matter who loses, the
- 8:04Speaker 3: world's ending. According to Paul, Yeah, okay, but I do
- 8:08Speaker 3: think with three losses, I don't know. I guess it
- 8:11Speaker 3: depends on how close the LSU losses. But if LSU
- 8:15Speaker 3: had beatn A and M I would say, sure, okay,
- 8:17Speaker 3: because then you have a LSU would be top ten.
- 8:20Speaker 1: But yeah, but here's here's the thing that nobody wants
- 8:22Speaker 1: to hear. But it's absolutely one hundred percent true. It
- 8:28Speaker 1: depends on what happens with other teams, how many other
- 8:31Speaker 1: teams take hits and the laws.
- 8:33Speaker 2: There's be a lot more chaos that we do not
- 8:34Speaker 2: know that's gonna happen. Does Indiana.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Do they lose to both Michigan and Ohio State or
- 8:40Speaker 1: Ohio State and then lose to Purdue for the old
- 8:42Speaker 1: oaken bucket they points to Ohio State.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you get blown out. That's okay, you
- 8:48Speaker 3: know what, they're not top twelve team?
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Does Does the Big Twelve continue to cannibalize itself and
- 8:56Speaker 1: then BYU runs the table and wins the Big Twelve Championship?
- 8:59Speaker 1: There the Big Twelve and only get one team in.
- 9:01Speaker 1: If that happens, that's pretty elementary to figure out. So
- 9:09Speaker 1: I would say if Miami goes unbeaten the rest of
- 9:11Speaker 1: the regular season, they're in regardless of what happens in
- 9:14Speaker 1: Charlotte in the a SEC Championship. And so that's why
- 9:17Speaker 1: the ACC leadership would love to see an unbeaten Miami
- 9:21Speaker 1: take on a once beaten but unbeaten conference play SMU
- 9:26Speaker 1: and then have SMU win the a SEC Championship and
- 9:28Speaker 1: Miami gets in.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Isn't that large and SMU gets by at that point?
- 9:32Speaker 2: Let me ask you this.
- 9:34Speaker 3: So let's say Miami stays undefeated and SMU trips up
- 9:39Speaker 3: and Louisville or maybe a Clemson gets into the ACC
- 9:43Speaker 3: championship game, they're probably not going to be.
- 9:45Speaker 1: SMU will not be in it if that happens. Yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 1: they're thirteen right now.
- 9:49Speaker 3: At that point, the automatic bid goes to the conference champion.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Right of course, what if they're ranked lower than Miami
- 9:58Speaker 3: is in the ranking.
- 10:01Speaker 1: That could definitely happen, but they won't be they won't
- 10:05Speaker 1: be ranked lower by winning the conference. They'll automatically slot
- 10:09Speaker 1: in at the four. It's the same thing like with Boise.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Boise right now is twelve. But let's say some other
- 10:16Speaker 1: teams continue in SMU and some other ones and they
- 10:18Speaker 1: pass Boise and Boise he winds up being fourteen fifteen.
- 10:22Speaker 1: They're still going to get slotted in at twelve if
- 10:25Speaker 1: they win and it.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Knocks teams out.
- 10:28Speaker 1: That is the unintended consequence of the twelve team playoff.
- 10:33Speaker 1: But you know what, you're gonna have some bad with
- 10:34Speaker 1: the good you just are, and they have to make
- 10:38Speaker 1: way for a conference champion, all five conference champions. That
- 10:44Speaker 1: was the compromise in doing this. I know the SEC
- 10:48Speaker 1: and the Big ten want there to be an opportunity
- 10:51Speaker 1: to get more of their members in, and they got
- 10:53Speaker 1: what eight of the top eleven, But I got each other. Well,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I got the Miss Georgia and Tennessee all going to
- 11:01Speaker 1: beat up on each other.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Alabama LSU played this week.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I got the solution. You expanded to sixteen. Expanded to sixteen. Hey,
- 11:09Speaker 1: if one double A can do it. Fcs, you know
- 11:13Speaker 1: Division two, Division three, they have like twenty teams and
- 11:15Speaker 1: some of those.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Why can't you go with the Just.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Have everybody the top eight seeds play an on campus
- 11:23Speaker 1: first round game like you have it five through eight.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You can spread it out. It wouldn't take an extra weekend.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Just have eight games on December twentieth. Just have eight
- 11:36Speaker 1: and twenty first. You could have two on Friday and
- 11:39Speaker 1: six on Saturday. Split it up among the networks. Staggered
- 11:43Speaker 1: the Star time. This is not hard to figure out.
- 11:46Speaker 1: So yeah, get it to sixteen. Then of course, then
- 11:51Speaker 1: if you get it to sixteen, the SEC and the
- 11:53Speaker 1: ACC or the SEC and the Big ten would want
- 11:57Speaker 1: to have twelve of the sixteen spots six a piece
- 12:01Speaker 1: in there. The more you get, the more you want, right,
- 12:03Speaker 1: That would just happen that way, But I let in
- 12:07Speaker 1: a few more that way, Like I said, open it
- 12:10Speaker 1: to sixteen. All right, up next we'll hear more from
- 12:13Speaker 1: Longren's head coach, Steve Sarkis in here on sports Radio
- 12:15Speaker 1: AM thirteen under the Zone
