  Choices that shape your future. The ending of First Samuel is
• 0:16
  sobering. First Samuel chapter 31, verse 6

  says plainly. And Saul and his three sons and
• 0:23
  all his house died together. That's not just a tragic
• 0:26
  historical footnote. That's the culmination of a life
• 0:30
  of choices, small compromises, moments of pride, seasons of
• 0:35
  disobedience, and the gradual, devastating drift away from the
• 0:38
  God who had given Saul everything.
• 0:41
  Saul started with so much. He was chosen.
• 0:45
  He was anointed. He stood head and shoulders
• 0:48
  above everyone around him. Literally.
• 0:51
  The promise on his life was enormous.
• 0:53
  And somewhere along the way, he chose his fear over his faith,
• 0:57
  his pride over obedience, his own judgment over God's
• 1:01
  commands. And each of those choices, 1 by
• 1:04
  1 eroded the foundation until there was nothing left to stand
• 1:08
  on. Proverbs chapter 19, verse 3
• 1:11
  speaks directly to this pattern. The foolishness of man ruins his
• 1:15
  way, and his heart rages against the Lord.

  It's significant that the verse doesn't just say foolishness
• 1:22
  ruins his way. It says his heart rages against
• 1:25
  the Lord. When things go wrong as a result
• 1:27
  of our own choices, we often turn that frustration toward
• 1:31
  God. We blame him for the
• 1:33
  consequences of our decisions. That anger becomes its own
• 1:37
  barrier to restoration. And verse 4 adds a quiet warning
• 1:41
  about relationships in hard seasons.

  Wealth brings many friends, but a poor man's friend deserts him.
• 1:48
  When you're doing well, people show up.
• 1:50
  When you're struggling, you find out who's actually there for
• 1:53
  you. This is the reality of shallow
• 1:56
  versus deep friendships, and it's why who you invest in and
• 2:00
  who you allow to invest in you matters so much for you.

  Today, you might be in the middle of a story that's still
• 2:07
  being written. You haven't reached your chapter
• 2:09
  31 yet. Every choice you make right now
• 2:13
  is building towards something. The habits you're forming, the
• 2:16
  values you're holding or abandoning, the direction you're
• 2:19
  slowly walking in. These things accumulate.

  Life doesn't usually turn on one dramatic moment.
• 2:26
  It turns on hundreds of ordinary ones.
• 2:29
  Choosing God's way in the ordinary moments isn't always
• 2:33
  exciting. It doesn't always look
• 2:35
  impressive. Sometimes it means being the
• 2:38
  person in your friend group who won't go along with something
• 2:41
  that doesn't feel right. Sometimes it means doing the
• 2:45
  honest thing when no one would know if you cut a corner.
• 2:48
  Sometimes it means waiting on God when every part of you wants
• 2:52
  to push ahead. But those choices stacked on top
• 2:56
  of each other, day after day, they build a life that lasts, a
• 3:00
  foundation that holds a legacy worth leaving.
• 3:04
  Saul's story is a warning. David's story, with all its
• 3:08
  flaws and failures, is also a reminder that it's never about
• 3:11
  being perfect. It's about keeping your heart
• 3:14
  pointed toward God, returning when you drift, and making the
• 3:17
  next right choice. Let's pray.

  Heavenly Father, thank you for guiding us through every choice
• 3:25
  we face. Let's all story be a warning we
• 3:28
  take seriously, not just a history we read casually.

  Help us to build habits and make choices today that reflect a
• 3:35
  life surrendered to you, not perfect, but persistent.

  Protect us from pride, from the drift of compromise, and from

  surrounding ourselves with people who pull us away from

  your truth. We want to finish well in Jesus

  of Saul. The battle went hard against

  Saul, and The Archers overtook him, and he was greatly

  distressed by reason of The Archers.

  Then Saul said to his armor bearer, Draw your sword and

  thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and
• 5:41
  thrust me through and abuse me. But his armor bearer would not,
• 5:46
  for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword
• 5:49
  and fell on it. When his armor bearer saw that
• 5:52
  Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword and died with him.

  So Saul died, and his three sons and his armor bearer and all his
• 6:00
  men that same day together. When the men of Israel who were
• 6:05
  on the other side of the valley and those who were beyond the

  Jordan saw that the men of Israel fled and that Saul and

  his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled,

  and the Philistines came and lived in them.

  On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the
• 6:21
  slain, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount
• 6:25
  Gilboa. They cut off his head, stripped
• 6:28
  off his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all
• 6:31
  around to carry the news to the House of their idols and to the
• 6:35
  people. They put his armor in the House
• 6:38
  of the Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of
• 6:41
  Beit Shan. When the inhabitants of Jabish
• 6:45
  Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
• 6:48
  all the valiant men arose, went all night, and took the body of
• 6:52
  Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beit Shan, and
• 6:56
  they came to Jabish and burned them there.
• 6:59
  They took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in
• 7:02
