- 0:00Speaker 1: It's the Mark Simone Show.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Live from the WOR LifeVac studios. Hey, we'll take some calls.
- 0:04Speaker 2: 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 0:05Speaker 3: 800-321-0710.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's fall. It's officially autumn. You go into a store,
- 0:07Speaker 2: there's a lot of Halloween stuff for sale. On the
- 0:28Speaker 2: news today, they're talking about the Rockefeller Center tree already.
- 0:32Speaker 2: They've announced the date, November 7th. It's like a month away.
- 0:37Speaker 2: They've already announced the date. The tree is coming November
- 0:40Speaker 2: 7th and then December, whatever it is, 8th. They'll light
- 0:44Speaker 2: it up. Anyway, let's take some calls. 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Let's go to Mike in Florida. Let's see if the
- 0:52Speaker 2: phone works. Mike? No, it's not working. Still can't do it.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Did you do it?
- 0:57Speaker 3: Good morning, Mark. Yeah.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah, go ahead, Mike.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Good morning, Mark. I'm so happy you mentioned the announcing
- 1:03Speaker 3: from last night's Yankee game. Bad. It was so bad.
- 1:08Speaker 3: And not only was it dull, but I don't remember.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Frank Messer or Bill White talking about the angle of
- 1:16Speaker 4: inflection of the batter's swing, you know, for nine innings
- 1:19Speaker 4: back in the day. And that's something else that I
- 1:23Speaker 4: like to point out to people who don't pay attention.
- 1:25Speaker 4: The way it's directed, it's one close-up shot of the pitcher,
- 1:29Speaker 4: close-up shot of the batter, lots of quick takes.
- 1:32Speaker 3: And you never see the field. You never see any action.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. You're right.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Terrible. They shoot like a bad music video.
- 1:39Speaker 2: So who are these announcers? Are they the TV announcers?
- 1:43Speaker 2: The NBC?
- 1:43Speaker 3: They must be the network announcers, so they have to
- 1:45Speaker 3: be impartial.
- 1:46Speaker 4: It's not Michael Kay and Paul O'Neill.
- 1:52Speaker 2: And who was the greatest Yankee announcer ever?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Well, I like Rizzuto and White. I like Frank Messer.
- 2:00Speaker 3: He was considered dull at the time, but I like
- 2:02Speaker 3: him because he just did the game. No histrionics. I
- 2:08Speaker 3: like him. I mean, I remember Mel Allen.
- 2:10Speaker 4: And Red Barber and Jerry Coleman back in the day.
- 2:13Speaker 3: They were very exciting guys. And they would do it,
- 2:16Speaker 3: and I was watching a game. It was like a
- 2:18Speaker 3: World Series game, and Rizzuto was doing it by himself.
- 2:21Speaker 3: He didn't even have anybody. He did nine innings by
- 2:24Speaker 3: himself back when he was first starting out.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Rizzuto was great. All right, thanks for calling, Mike. Yeah, no,
- 2:29Speaker 2: Rizzuto was phenomenal. But he'd yell. You got to yell.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You got to go, holy cow. You got to scream.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Mel Allen would scream. John Sterling would be screaming. You
- 2:40Speaker 2: can't just go, well, that looks like a home run.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And it's a grand slam. That's the biggest thing there is,
- 2:45Speaker 2: a grand slam. Listen to this guy. He can't even
- 2:47Speaker 2: say grand slam. He has to abbreviate it. He hammers
- 2:52Speaker 2: this ball right center field. It is a slam. It's
- 3:03Speaker 2: a slam? What is that? It's a grand slam. It
- 3:05Speaker 2: was a slam. Anyway, let's go to Anthony in the Bronx. Anthony,
- 3:10Speaker 2: how you doing? Hey, Mark.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Go Buchanan.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Oh, it's the Go Buchanan guy. So, all right. Thanks
- 3:17Speaker 2: for calling. Yeah, I can't... I don't know. The buttons
- 3:20Speaker 2: still don't work here. Yeah. Still dead on the phone.
- 3:23Speaker 2: All right. Let's try... Let's go to Mike in Brooklyn. Mike,
- 3:27Speaker 2: how you doing?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Hey, good morning, Mark. How's everything?
- 3:30Speaker 3: Good.
- 3:32Speaker 1: With the Yankees, actually, Michael K was on the ESPN radio.
- 3:35Speaker 1: His call was much better than all of the TV commentators.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And then.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And then also the second thing, Mark, that you see
- 3:44Speaker 1: the news this morning about that attempted airline hijacking from
- 3:48Speaker 1: Dubai to Tel Aviv.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it looks more like a terrorist attack than a
- 3:51Speaker 2: simple hijacking. It looks like a terrorist attack where they
- 3:54Speaker 2: got somebody on a plane, a terrorist, who tried to
- 3:56Speaker 2: stab the pilot. Frightening, frightening situation. Amazing that they got
- 4:01Speaker 2: that plane down. But thanks for calling. Yeah. The game
- 4:07Speaker 2: is NBC, right? Yeah, NBC. Channel 4 had the game.
- 4:10Speaker 2: NBC Network. What happened to Bob Costas? Get Bob Costas back.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I don't think he's with NBC anymore. And he went
- 4:18Speaker 2: a little crazy with the Trump derangement syndrome. I think
- 4:21Speaker 2: that was the problem. Didn't he get a little too
- 4:22Speaker 2: political on football? One of those telecasts, he got way
- 4:27Speaker 2: too political. And even NBC got nervous with him on
- 4:31Speaker 2: the air. So they don't make announcers like that anymore.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Most of the greats, the real greats, were ex-players like Rizzuto.
- 4:40Speaker 2: But there were many that weren't ex-players, Michael Kay and
- 4:43Speaker 2: John Sterling. They were just great announcers. So you need
- 4:46Speaker 2: more of that. Anyway, let's go to Rich on his
- 4:49Speaker 2: car phone. Rich, how are you doing?
- 4:52Speaker 3: Hey, Mark.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Hey, Rich.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Real quick question because I've seen the lost track of it.
- 5:00Speaker 3: What's going on with Fauci? You don't hear a word
- 5:03Speaker 3: about him.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Well, Fauci's in hiding because he's in all kinds of
- 5:08Speaker 2: legal jeopardy. He's been caught lying and all kinds of crap.
- 5:11Speaker 2: He's been caught profiteering like crazy off the pandemic. They've
- 5:16Speaker 2: gone after him a little, and he is in hiding.
- 5:20Speaker 2: He's really, really, really worried about prosecution. He's got to
- 5:25Speaker 2: get through— well, if the Democrats win Congress— in November. That
- 5:33Speaker 2: could help him. That would stop the hearings. But there's
- 5:36Speaker 2: going to be criminal referrals against Fauci. Really, really, really
- 5:40Speaker 2: bad guy. And besides the lying and the crap that
- 5:43Speaker 2: he pulled in the profiteering, just getting stuff wrong. It's
- 5:47Speaker 2: amazing how much stuff he got wrong. And now people
- 5:49Speaker 2: looking at his history, he did the same thing in
- 5:51Speaker 2: the AIDS pandemic. He just got a lot of stuff
- 5:54Speaker 2: wrong all the time. Hey, P. Diddy, Sean Puffy Diddy Doody,
- 6:00Speaker 2: whatever the hell his name is this week. You know,
- 6:02Speaker 2: he's in prison. He's in Fort Dix. There's a prison there. Apparently,
- 6:08Speaker 2: he is living very well. He is living quite a life.
- 6:12Speaker 2: They take care of him in prison. The guards, everything.
- 6:16Speaker 2: He's got a phone. He's making all the calls he wants.
- 6:18Speaker 2: He's got porn. He's got booze. He's got a tablet
- 6:23Speaker 2: and a Netflix account he can watch. And you remember
- 6:26Speaker 2: the scene in Goodfellas where they're eating lobsters and steaks
- 6:29Speaker 2: and the guards are bringing them bottles of wine. And
- 6:32Speaker 2: apparently that's the case here. Prison. Remember Wolf of Wall
- 6:37Speaker 2: Street where he goes to prison and he was so
- 6:40Speaker 2: afraid of prison. And then the Wolf of Wall Street,
- 6:42Speaker 2: he said, hey, when I got there, I realized it's
- 6:45Speaker 2: a place where you can buy anything you need. If
- 6:47Speaker 2: you got money, you can buy everything. So he's just
- 6:50Speaker 2: bribing the guards, bribing everybody. And just like in Goodfellas.
- 6:54Speaker 2: eating steak and lobster every night and having a great time.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So Diddy's serving 50 months, although there's a push now
- 7:03Speaker 2: for him to get out a little earlier. We'll see. Hey, Cornell,
- 7:10Speaker 2: the rape allegations, they have so mishandled all of this
- 7:14Speaker 2: that the people that were applying, students that were applying,
- 7:17Speaker 2: parents that were, you know, like crazy, dropping their applications.
- 7:25Speaker 2: They want nothing to do with Cornell. They find the
- 7:27Speaker 2: handling of these rape accusations to cover up all this
- 7:31Speaker 2: stuff absolutely disgusting. They say hundreds of people have dropped
- 7:36Speaker 2: their applications to Cornell. Let's take one more call. Let's
- 7:40Speaker 2: go to Myrna Williamsburg. Myrna, how you doing?
- 7:43Speaker 5: Oh, I'm so excited. Hello, and God bless you. Oh, Myrna.
- 7:49Speaker 5: I have tried to reach you for about three weeks,
- 7:51Speaker 5: and you guys are so busy. I just wanted to
- 7:54Speaker 5: be able to say how excited and happy I am
- 7:56Speaker 5: to know you're back on the air, and you've been
- 7:58Speaker 5: on the air, but I've been unaware of it. I
- 8:00Speaker 5: used to listen to you, correct me if I'm mistaken,
- 8:03Speaker 5: on WNEW.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:04Speaker 5: You used to do Sinatra.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Yes.
- 8:07Speaker 5: About 30, 40 years ago.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Well, where have you been for the last few years?
- 8:12Speaker 5: I've been around, sir. I didn't know how successful you
- 8:15Speaker 5: had become.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Why'd you stop listening?
- 8:17Speaker 5: And because, you know, I'm a senior now and I
- 8:21Speaker 5: got involved in other senior things.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Well, aside from Mahjong and pickleball, well, you could have
- 8:28Speaker 2: had time to listen.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Well, now I've been listening to you regularly. OK, and
- 8:33Speaker 5: I'm just so happy I got through today. And my
- 8:35Speaker 5: next question, no, my comment is, why can't you be
- 8:38Speaker 5: the baseball announcer? I would think you'd be great. Is
- 8:41Speaker 5: it too late for you?
- 8:42Speaker 2: I can't even watch an old game. I'm going to
- 8:45Speaker 2: announce an old game. I don't know. You've got to
- 8:47Speaker 2: know all kinds of stuff. I don't know who all
- 8:49Speaker 2: these players are.
- 8:49Speaker 3: You've got to know a lot.
- 8:51Speaker 5: I think I've seen you. Excuse me, because I know
- 8:53Speaker 5: you have time to have to get rid of me.
- 8:55Speaker 5: But what about, don't you do PBS or one of
- 8:58Speaker 5: the old songs?
- 8:59Speaker 2: Well, I did a lot of PBS shows for years.
- 9:01Speaker 2: They don't really do those things anymore. Budget cuts over there.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I see.
- 9:05Speaker 2: They don't. But Myrna, we're glad you're back.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Call us.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Call us again. Keep listening. Glad you're back. It's Mark
- 9:13Speaker 2: Simone here. Nine to noon. It's three hours every day.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Nine to noon. And then at noon, you got Buck
- 9:19Speaker 2: and Clay with a big show every day. And then
- 9:21Speaker 2: you got the most listened to radio show in America,
- 9:24Speaker 2: Sean Hannity, three o'clock. And don't forget Jimmy Fela, nine
- 9:28Speaker 2: to midnight here on 710WOR.
