- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter three. Thought, as a flutterer makes straight his arrow,
- 0:07Speaker 1: a wise man make straight his trembling and unsteady thought,
- 0:12Speaker 1: which is difficult to guard, difficult to hold back. As
- 0:18Speaker 1: a fish taken from his watery home and thrown on
- 0:21Speaker 1: the dry ground, our thought trembles all over in order
- 0:26Speaker 1: to escape the dominion of Mara the Tempter. It is
- 0:32Speaker 1: good to tame the mind, which is difficult to hold
- 0:36Speaker 1: in and flighty, rushing wherever it listeth. Attained mind brings happiness.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Let the wise man guard his thoughts, for they are
- 0:49Speaker 1: difficult to perceive, very artful, and they rush wherever they list.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Thoughts well guarded bring happiness. Those who bridle their mind,
- 1:03Speaker 1: which travels far, moves about alone, is without a body,
- 1:09Speaker 1: and hides in the chamber of the heart, will be
- 1:12Speaker 1: free from the bonds of Mara the Tempter. If a
- 1:18Speaker 1: man's thoughts are unsteady, if he does not know the
- 1:22Speaker 1: true law, if his peace of mind is troubled, his
- 1:26Speaker 1: knowledge will never be perfect. If a man's thoughts are
- 1:32Speaker 1: not dissipated, if his mind is not perplexed, if he
- 1:37Speaker 1: has ceased to think of good or evil, then there
- 1:41Speaker 1: is no fear for him. While he is watchful, knowing
- 1:46Speaker 1: that this body is fragile like a jar, and making
- 1:50Speaker 1: this thought firm like a fortress. One should attack Mara
- 1:55Speaker 1: the Tempter with the weapon of knowledge. One should watch
- 1:59Speaker 1: him when conquer and should never rest before long, alas
- 2:07Speaker 1: this body will lie on the earth, despised without understanding,
- 2:13Speaker 1: like a useless log. Whatever a hater may do to
- 2:19Speaker 1: a hater, or an enemy to an enemy, a wrongly
- 2:23Speaker 1: directed mind will do us greater mischief. Not a mother,
- 2:30Speaker 1: not a father, will do so much, nor any other relative.
- 2:36Speaker 1: A well directed mind will do us greater service. End
- 2:43Speaker 1: of Chapter three
