- 0:00Speaker 1: What men.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I'm totally South Korean. Seoul Soul, great city. You should
- 0:03Speaker 2: come visit me someday. It's one more thing. I like
- 0:09Speaker 2: the noise, the classic Simpson's tugging at the collar noise.
- 0:14Speaker 3: A couple of things. First, this was a good clickbait
- 0:22Speaker 3: meat for me. The other day in the Wall Street Journal,
- 0:27Speaker 3: the thing on modern cars that people hate the most
- 0:30Speaker 3: is going away. Oh did you see that, bait?
- 0:34Speaker 4: I have no idea, but I'm hoping that it's what
- 0:37Speaker 4: I'm thinking.
- 0:38Speaker 3: The automatic shut off thing, yes, oh my god, it
- 0:42Speaker 3: stops running for like thirty seconds, accomplishing freaking nothing. I
- 0:46Speaker 3: don't care what anybody says. They can't add up to anything.
- 0:49Speaker 3: They showed some studies. Some studies show yeah, studies from
- 0:53Speaker 3: universities where they reward scientists who talk about climate change.
- 0:57Speaker 3: You can't convince me it makes any difference to have
- 1:01Speaker 3: your car stop running from idling for thirty seconds A
- 1:04Speaker 3: couple of times a day.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Dangerous, It can be, definitely. I had the problem where
- 1:09Speaker 5: I need to go when my car is dead, but
- 1:12Speaker 5: trying to make a left turn and you break enough
- 1:14Speaker 5: that it cuts the engine. Then you go to go
- 1:16Speaker 5: and it hesitates and.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Yep, next thing you know, you're getting rear ended. Oh
- 1:20Speaker 4: I hate that feature hardly.
- 1:22Speaker 2: My car, I can turn it off, but some cars
- 1:25Speaker 2: you have to, like order, you have to have a
- 1:27Speaker 2: mechanic install some gizmo to defeat it.
- 1:29Speaker 4: I can hit a button to turn it off in
- 1:31Speaker 4: my car, but I have to do it every time
- 1:33Speaker 4: I turn the car on.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Yeah, just stupid. Is stupid? Forced climate change bullshit, accomplished
- 1:40Speaker 3: nothing so maddening. But anyway, it's love it.
- 1:43Speaker 2: When it cuts off my engine while I'm in the
- 1:45Speaker 2: diamond lane because I'm doing so much against climate change.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Oh you people, God, you have no grasp of reality.
- 1:54Speaker 3: And guess why it's going away? Trump Trump administration said
- 1:57Speaker 3: it's bullshit. It doesn't do anything. We're getting rid of it.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I mean yeah, and people hate it. So there you go.
- 2:02Speaker 3: There's that one. To mention this before we get to
- 2:04Speaker 3: the h I'm from kurtin No, North Korea, South Korea.
- 2:10Speaker 3: The dumb list of the top party schools for college
- 2:14Speaker 3: in America came out, as it always does every year.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and the older I get, the dumb. I
- 2:19Speaker 3: thought the list was dumb when I was young. I mean,
- 2:22Speaker 3: for each individual human being. There's nothing stopping you from
- 2:26Speaker 3: partying as hurt as much as you want.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I can attest to that.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Well, everyone can attest to that. So yeah, so well,
- 2:36Speaker 3: I would have really partied a lot harder if I'd
- 2:38Speaker 3: have been at this school instead of that school. Give
- 2:39Speaker 3: me a break.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Boy, am drunken out of my mind on shrooms and
- 2:43Speaker 2: listening to a great band. But I sure wish I
- 2:46Speaker 2: was at a good party school.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Right Anyway, this year the number one party school is
- 2:52Speaker 3: Santa Barbara. You see Santa Barbara. Man, if you're going
- 2:54Speaker 3: to you see Santa Barbara. You're partying, You're on the beach,
- 2:58Speaker 3: You're like the nice spot on planet Earth. Practically while
- 3:02Speaker 3: you're in your pretending to go to college, in many
- 3:05Speaker 3: cases learning nothing, doing nothing but partying. That's quite the lifestyle.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it was funny.
- 3:13Speaker 2: My kid could have gotten into UC Santa Barbara and
- 3:16Speaker 2: said no, no, the program's not strong enough, and I'm like, wow,
- 3:19Speaker 2: you're better than me. Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I spent a couple of days in Santa Barbara a
- 3:27Speaker 3: year before last with the kids. Were at a hotel.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I don't remember where we were going, but anyway, I
- 3:31Speaker 3: thought people go to college and live here and that's
- 3:35Speaker 3: just it's stunning.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, there was, and it would be wonderful. On
- 3:41Speaker 2: the other hand, there was absolutely zero to recommend where
- 3:46Speaker 2: I went to school, Like, geographically, there's nothing Champagne or
- 3:51Speaker 2: ban Illinois.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Go there sometime.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Trust me, there's no reason to be there except that
- 3:55Speaker 2: there's a university there.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And we managed to have a hell of a time.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Well, yeah, the same. I mean, I went to college
- 4:02Speaker 3: in a place where most people don't want to be,
- 4:04Speaker 3: and it's all about people. I mean, you're hanging out
- 4:06Speaker 3: with people, you really really like, you're having the time
- 4:08Speaker 3: of your life. You could be you could be somewhere
- 4:11Speaker 3: looking at the ocean. If you don't have good friends
- 4:13Speaker 3: you're hanging out with, you would I mean, it's not
- 4:15Speaker 3: like you're not going to make friends at that college.
- 4:17Speaker 3: But that's the key, is the the people thing.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yep here here, So speaking of collegen careers and getting
- 4:25Speaker 2: ahead and that sort of thing, this is amusing slash interesting.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I brought the story at least once to the show
- 4:32Speaker 2: that North Korea is profiting enormously by providing remote technical
- 4:39Speaker 2: workers for US tech firms because they have so many
- 4:44Speaker 2: you know, computer geeks and all that work all over
- 4:47Speaker 2: the world, but they're not allowed to hire North Koreans,
- 4:54Speaker 2: and so the North Koreans go to a great deal
- 4:56Speaker 2: of trouble to hide the fact that they're North Korean.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Sometimes they'll hire a Meamurricans or other people around the
- 5:02Speaker 2: world to do a video interview. Then they actually take
- 5:05Speaker 2: over and do the work to bring revenue to the
- 5:08Speaker 2: North Korean regime, which is desperate for hard currency. Also
- 5:12Speaker 2: they gather intelligence through that. But anyway, this is actual
- 5:16Speaker 2: audio and video, which won't do you much good in
- 5:18Speaker 2: this context of an Asian IT worker who has claimed
- 5:23Speaker 2: to be South Korean and the interviewer wants to make sure.
- 5:29Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I was in the process of saying, like,
- 5:32Speaker 6: we get like a lot of impost candidates, you know,
- 5:35Speaker 6: particularly North Koreans, like posing as like people that they're not.
- 5:38Speaker 6: So one of the tests that we do is trying
- 5:40Speaker 6: to get them to say something like Kim Johnan is
- 5:43Speaker 6: a fat ugly pig.
- 5:44Speaker 7: Could you say that for me? No, Kim Johnan, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 7: the leader of North Korea.
- 5:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I sort I see, yeah, yeah, if you could,
- 6:05Speaker 8: because because it's it's one test so that I know
- 6:08Speaker 8: that you're not not North Korean.
- 6:13Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, say damn, he really don't want to say it.
- 6:25Speaker 2: He got up and left and we cut out some
- 6:28Speaker 2: of the hesitation because it got a little long. Yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Wow, I don't know how was looking wide eyed.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Into the camera.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I don't know how comfortable I am with that. Yeah.
- 6:38Speaker 3: I mean, you don't want to put money in the
- 6:40Speaker 3: pocket of the North Korean government. But maybe that guy
- 6:44Speaker 3: gets to feed his family on something other than three
- 6:47Speaker 3: kernels of corn if he does the job, and if
- 6:49Speaker 3: he gets caught, he's going to be murdered, and perhaps
- 6:52Speaker 3: his old family and the thing they do in North
- 6:54Speaker 3: Korea like the next two generations or whatever to make
- 6:57Speaker 3: sure that they made their point.
- 7:00Speaker 2: You're a compassionate man, Jack, but a sap I will
- 7:03Speaker 2: point out that these companies they can't hire North Koreans,
- 7:06Speaker 2: and that's a full proof test.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd say that's a full proof test. How often
- 7:13Speaker 3: is that to live in a country where you couldn't
- 7:15Speaker 3: even come close to whispering that you don't approve of
- 7:18Speaker 3: the current leader, or you'll end a ball.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Oh my god, you couldn't even say, you know, there
- 7:23Speaker 2: are moments I wonder whether the regime is making the
- 7:26Speaker 2: right decisions.
- 7:28Speaker 3: You execute a fag paper.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Kim Jong un is a fat, ugly pig. He is.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Somebody should play that audio for all of the people
- 7:36Speaker 4: touting the big fat Trump wearing a diaper things that
- 7:40Speaker 4: these no kids saying no dictator.
- 7:43Speaker 3: You want to see a dictator?
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yeah, well said yeah, jack asses.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Wow, it's heavy.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I mean it's it's It was amusing on one level,
- 7:52Speaker 2: but it's it's heavy.
- 7:54Speaker 3: You don't think Kim jong un is a he's big boned,
- 7:57Speaker 3: You just think you think he's no.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I think he's.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Big guy, handsome, not a bad looking fella. If I
- 8:05Speaker 2: swung that way, you know, was his dad friend he
- 8:08Speaker 2: could to give you a hell of a lifestyle.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Was his dad or granddad fat? I don't remember.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yes, they're all rotund.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Is that a flex? Like just look at me and
- 8:21Speaker 3: I guess so much.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I've got all this food while you starve kind of
- 8:25Speaker 4: a thing.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I don't know if it's a flex or just a
- 8:28Speaker 2: function of having that much food and booze.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Probably not very flex.
- 8:32Speaker 1: A bull.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Good, but he probably has people to put his shoes
- 8:38Speaker 3: on for him. And his daughter's just as evil as
- 8:40Speaker 3: he is. Oh yeah, and she's gonna be in charge his.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Thirteen year old daughter.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Oh yeah, there aparent, Yeah she was. They did some
- 8:49Speaker 4: big weapons displayed the other day, and there's video her
- 8:52Speaker 4: driving around in a tank and she I mean, she's
- 8:54Speaker 4: gonna she's gonna be him with hormones.
- 8:57Speaker 3: She's a bad one though.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Wow.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Kind of a looker.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Wow, she's a great analysis there, she's thirteen.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Jesus dude. Wow, sounded like Trump back in the day. Okay,
- 9:13Speaker 1: she was disturbing.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Ah yeah, So they have her dressing like him. They
- 9:19Speaker 2: altered her haircut so it looks a little more like
- 9:22Speaker 2: his girl version.
- 9:24Speaker 3: And then are they feeding her cake all day long?
- 9:26Speaker 2: And again, the weight, I don't think is that significant
- 9:29Speaker 2: an aspect of this. But she's also now consistently pictured
- 9:35Speaker 2: right next to him and official important state functions, and
- 9:39Speaker 2: the one thing Korea watchers know is proximity at those
- 9:43Speaker 2: events is everything. That is the pecking order.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Got those dictators in your old daughter, those dictatorships. And
- 9:51Speaker 3: I can't believe that they actually do this because I
- 9:53Speaker 3: would think it would be counterproductive at some point. But
- 9:55Speaker 3: I was listening to about when the Soviets tested their
- 10:01Speaker 3: first atomic weapon to let the world know. Hey, ain't
- 10:03Speaker 3: just the United States got an atomic weapon. We got
- 10:05Speaker 3: one too. Stalin was there to see it. All the
- 10:08Speaker 3: scientists knew they were going to be executed if it
- 10:10Speaker 3: didn't work. Wow, they were told that. So if you're
- 10:14Speaker 3: a nuclear scientist on the bomb, you were there hoping
- 10:17Speaker 3: it went off because you were going to be executed. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 3: and it went off and it went off. Okay, so
- 10:23Speaker 3: they got an award.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Hey boss, Seeing the nature of sciences, you fail and
- 10:28Speaker 2: you learn from it and then you do better next time.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Right, do you want this cigarette? Or don't you?
- 10:34Speaker 3: Or or I can think of more clearly, and my
- 10:37Speaker 3: hands are a little more steady if I don't think
- 10:39Speaker 3: I'm going to be executed if I screw up. I'm
- 10:43Speaker 3: just surprised they think it's a productive way to do things.
- 10:47Speaker 3: And there's there's like eight of me in the whole
- 10:49Speaker 3: country that know how to do this. You're gonna execute
- 10:51Speaker 3: me if this one doesn't work. But that was the
- 10:54Speaker 3: plan and they all knew it.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Kidnap a German and make him do it. Wow.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Crazy, So we're anti dictatorship then, okay, yes, decided yep.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Guess well, he don't want war. That's one thing he
- 11:09Speaker 1: don't want.
- 11:09Speaker 7: Said in the past that he would destroy the United States.
- 11:13Speaker 1: People run in the world, run a world. You know.
- 11:16Speaker 9: One of the weirdest things I saw on sixty Minutes
- 11:19Speaker 9: one time about North Korea is they have traffic guards
- 11:22Speaker 9: that stand out on these empty roads directing traffic that
- 11:25Speaker 9: doesn't exist. They just they just wave track it traffic through,
- 11:29Speaker 9: tell him to stop. But it's just a guards standing
- 11:31Speaker 9: out there doing that for hours a day.
- 11:34Speaker 3: And Dennis Rodman, the greatest rebounder of all time in
- 11:37Speaker 3: the NBA, went to visit.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Right strike a piece of cord for some reason.
- 11:44Speaker 9: Well, I guess that's it.
