- 0:22Speaker 2: one hundred and forty one and two thirds tess winning.
- 0:25Speaker 1: But brother, I am bad and ain't a lot bad.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I haven't bad all the bear with a dollar you
- 0:31Speaker 2: slip this up in shell time, well doesn't choose the
- 0:37Speaker 2: Grillout from the heart. I's Silli in West Virginia.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Here's your host, Hollywood.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Chef Petty.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, back to the Grillout Episode forty eight.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I am your host, Hollywood, Jeff Petty, and I am
- 0:55Speaker 1: not joined by my two co host poral both they're
- 1:00Speaker 1: not here for this weekend. I'm actually it's a bit
- 1:03Speaker 1: of a weird schedule. This week. We still have no
- 1:06Speaker 1: idea where Jason is. He's at an undisclosed location and
- 1:10Speaker 1: will not relinquish the ten ounces of plastic to Josh,
- 1:13Speaker 1: who is actually the rightful champion of the Grill Out
- 1:17Speaker 1: Predictions Heavyweight Championship. I know, I just keep adding words
- 1:21Speaker 1: to it. And also Josh, he went ahead and he
- 1:24Speaker 1: took the weekend off. I'm actually, you know, like I said,
- 1:27Speaker 1: weird schedule. I will be the only one on the
- 1:30Speaker 1: show for this week, but then next episode we should
- 1:34Speaker 1: have all three of us in the studio together like
- 1:37Speaker 1: you all want to and just to jump right into it.
- 1:42Speaker 1: NXT we'll be moving to the CW. Now this is
- 1:45Speaker 1: no surprise to the average wrestling fan. There's been a
- 1:49Speaker 1: lot of TV deals going on. Starting October first, there
- 1:52Speaker 1: will be a lot of changes to WW programming with
- 1:55Speaker 1: the CW going well, with NXT going over to the CW,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and then you have SmackDown coming over to USA Network
- 2:04Speaker 1: and actually Rawl will be ending. We'll be going into
- 2:07Speaker 1: the last few months of their deal with the USA
- 2:10Speaker 1: Network before they go over to Netflix exclusively in January.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So the first two events for NXT will be live,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and not just live, they will be at another location
- 2:24Speaker 1: that is not where they normally do their show. You know,
- 2:28Speaker 1: they're at the Performance Center of the Capitol Wrestling Complex
- 2:31Speaker 1: and all of that. For the October first show, they
- 2:34Speaker 1: will be at the All State Arena in Chicago, and
- 2:38Speaker 1: of course they're going to have the one and only
- 2:41Speaker 1: CM Punk on the show. And then October eighth, they
- 2:46Speaker 1: will actually have Randy Orton there because they will be
- 2:50Speaker 1: taking place from Saint Louis, So it makes sense. That
- 2:53Speaker 1: will be October eighth with Randy Orton October first with Cmpunk.
- 2:57Speaker 1: October first will be in Chicago, October eighth will be
- 3:00Speaker 1: in Saint Louis. And actually, speaking of the one and
- 3:05Speaker 1: only See Them Punk, there's a lot of rumors right
- 3:08Speaker 1: now going on between him and Drew McIntyre and where
- 3:12Speaker 1: their feud will go next. According to Work Wrestling Right Now,
- 3:18Speaker 1: See Them Punk and Drew mcintowre will clash once again.
- 3:22Speaker 1: They will face off inside a hell in a Cell
- 3:25Speaker 1: structure at Bad Blood on October fifth, and of course
- 3:28Speaker 1: the show takes place from the State Farum Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Interesting fact about this, and I'm glad that WW is
- 3:35Speaker 1: doing this because it's kind of a callback to the original,
- 3:38Speaker 1: the first Hell in a Sale match between the Undertaker
- 3:41Speaker 1: and Sean Michaels October fifth. We've talked about this before
- 3:44Speaker 1: on the show actually is twenty seven years. It makes
- 3:49Speaker 1: twenty seven years since the first Bad Blood pay per view,
- 3:53Speaker 1: which was Bad Blood in your House at that point
- 3:56Speaker 1: with two d's and not one d what they had
- 4:00Speaker 1: later on as they kept the Bad Blood pay per
- 4:02Speaker 1: view going. Like I said, it'll be twenty seven years
- 4:05Speaker 1: since the first one. It will also be twenty seven
- 4:08Speaker 1: years since the first Hell in a Cell took place,
- 4:13Speaker 1: and like I said, that was between Shawn Michaels and
- 4:15Speaker 1: the Undertaker, And rumor has it it will be CM
- 4:18Speaker 1: punk and Drew McIntyre. Which this is a little interesting
- 4:22Speaker 1: because if rememory, I could be wrong on this. Okay,
- 4:24Speaker 1: I could be wrong on this. I think cmpunk said
- 4:26Speaker 1: something here recently that he didn't really want to do
- 4:28Speaker 1: a match like that. He didn't really want to do
- 4:30Speaker 1: a ladder match or anything of that nature. But the
- 4:34Speaker 1: rumor is right now, and like I said, it's coming
- 4:36Speaker 1: from Worked Wrestling. They've gotten a lot of stuff right,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and they are rather trusted news source for professional wrestling,
- 4:45Speaker 1: as we are too. We like to make sure that
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know this, Like I said, it will be cm
- 4:49Speaker 1: punk and Drew McIntyre for the Bad Blood pay per
- 4:54Speaker 1: view on October fifth. You know, I can I still
- 5:01Speaker 1: echo how much I did enjoy seem Punk and Drew
- 5:05Speaker 1: McIntyre's match on at SummerSlam. I did see a video
- 5:09Speaker 1: here recently with seth Rawlins from the little camera that
- 5:14Speaker 1: he had, the refcam. They were supposed to have. Actually,
- 5:17Speaker 1: they were supposed to have more shots of the match
- 5:20Speaker 1: through Seth Rawlins's eyes through the ref camera that he had,
- 5:24Speaker 1: but apparently the battery or something fell off, Like I
- 5:29Speaker 1: think the battery died or something, and they just kind
- 5:31Speaker 1: of scrapped it right there on the spot. But I
- 5:33Speaker 1: did watch a video and it's just kind of hilarious
- 5:36Speaker 1: hearing some of the interactions that Seth was having with
- 5:40Speaker 1: Drew and see him punk in the ring, you know,
- 5:43Speaker 1: the stuff that you don't normally hear per se while
- 5:47Speaker 1: watching the actual broadcast. So I found it rather funny.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I found it rather interesting. But I also I'm rather
- 5:55Speaker 1: excited if this is true. I'm going to be very
- 5:58Speaker 1: excited for this, very invested because I'm I'm thoroughly enjoying
- 6:04Speaker 1: Drew McIntyre's He'll turn hit, his He'll run against cmpunk,
- 6:09Speaker 1: Cmpunk coming back, you know, to WW and everything. The
- 6:12Speaker 1: story there, it kind of rights itself, even though you
- 6:15Speaker 1: know there was some of the controversy in aew but
- 6:19Speaker 1: we're all we are all past that, some of us are.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I'll admit that I'm past it. I know that there's
- 6:26Speaker 1: others in the wrestling industry that may not be. But
- 6:28Speaker 1: like I said on last week's show, Drew McIntyre to me,
- 6:32Speaker 1: the hatred he has in k FA terms towards CM
- 6:36Speaker 1: punk can power a small village like the level. My
- 6:39Speaker 1: last name is petty Okay, per se, I mean you
- 6:42Speaker 1: know this. I said this at the top of the show.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I said what my name was as your host. I
- 6:48Speaker 1: enjoy a little bit of pettiness. I enjoy a good
- 6:51Speaker 1: dose of pettiness. And Drew mcintoyre has that. So just
- 6:55Speaker 1: to stick with WWE at the moment, Odyssey Jones joins
- 6:59Speaker 1: the New Day. He debuted on Monday Night Roll. This
- 7:02Speaker 1: past Monday Night Roll, Kobe Kingston and Xavier Woods continued
- 7:07Speaker 1: their rivalry with the Final Testament against the Authors of Pain.
- 7:12Speaker 1: After interference by Scarlett Bordoh and carrying Cross put Kingston
- 7:17Speaker 1: and Woods at a disadvantage, Odyssey, Jones, the former NXT star,
- 7:20Speaker 1: came to the came to even the playing field. Marching
- 7:23Speaker 1: to the ring in a New Day T shirt. Jones
- 7:26Speaker 1: took out Cross and fought off the aop by simultaneously
- 7:29Speaker 1: side suplexing the six hundred pound duo Big E. I
- 7:34Speaker 1: love Big E, Okay, I enjoy Biggie very much. He
- 7:38Speaker 1: did have something to say to this on X quote
- 7:41Speaker 1: the Big Man looked phenomenal. A star is born. Odyssey
- 7:45Speaker 1: made a lot of new fans tonight hashtag ww rawl
- 7:49Speaker 1: end quote. And then also and in a digital exclusive
- 7:54Speaker 1: for Rall, Woods talked about how no one in WWE
- 7:57Speaker 1: has been able to break up the New Day. He
- 7:59Speaker 1: discussed the group's upcoming tenth anniversary this November, but didn't
- 8:03Speaker 1: mention Jones. Woods seemed lukewarmed the Jones in the ring,
- 8:08Speaker 1: even though Kingston was quite receptive to the three hundred
- 8:11Speaker 1: pound powerhouse. So we'll see if there is a going
- 8:15Speaker 1: to be friction between Woods and Kingston because of all
- 8:19Speaker 1: this Odyssey Jones stuff. I had no idea that the
- 8:23Speaker 1: tenth anniversary of the New Day was coming up. I
- 8:26Speaker 1: had no idea of that, and I'm a little disappointed
- 8:30Speaker 1: in myself that I didn't know that because the New
- 8:35Speaker 1: Day is for me. They're one of my favorite groups
- 8:39Speaker 1: and all of professional wrestling, not just in ww I
- 8:42Speaker 1: think they're phenomenal across the board, if anything like if you.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I don't want to compare them to the Free Birds
- 8:49Speaker 1: because that seems like a bit cheap. But if we're
- 8:52Speaker 1: talking about trios, we're talking about a trio group of
- 8:56Speaker 1: people that you know, fans. And even though the free
- 9:01Speaker 1: Birds were not you know, they were they were heels
- 9:03Speaker 1: and all that against the von Ericks, but just impact,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I would say, the New Day is sort of the
- 9:10Speaker 1: you know, I'm not even gonna go there. I wouldn't
- 9:11Speaker 1: say that they're the modern day, modern day free Birds.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I was.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I almost said that. I actually take that back, but
- 9:18Speaker 1: I mean, you can't. You can't take away the influence
- 9:21Speaker 1: that The New Day has had on WWE, even when
- 9:25Speaker 1: WWE was sort of in a slump. Okay, the New
- 9:29Speaker 1: Day was one of the acts to watch. They were
- 9:31Speaker 1: one of the acts that kept the ship going, to
- 9:34Speaker 1: kept it afloat. Of course them ceth Allan's Roman Reigns,
- 9:38Speaker 1: as much as some people don't want to admit that
- 9:40Speaker 1: Roman Rerains was also part of that, along with Charlotte
- 9:42Speaker 1: Flair and pretty much all four horse Women. But the
- 9:46Speaker 1: New Day themselves are phenomenal. They're great. I mean, you
- 9:50Speaker 1: can't can't go wrong with them. And like I said,
- 9:53Speaker 1: it looks like that the tenth anniversary for them is
- 9:55Speaker 1: coming up this November don't know if Odyssey Jones is
- 9:59Speaker 1: going to be an official member by then. We'll see
- 10:02Speaker 1: where this storyline takes us, but it is a fun
- 10:08Speaker 1: thing to look forward to. One speaking of looking forward
- 10:13Speaker 1: to this past last weekend, last Saturday was ww Summer Slam. Okay,
- 10:21Speaker 1: treble H was asked at the post show press conference,
- 10:24Speaker 1: because you know, they have a press conference after every show.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Somebody asked him about this year's events and he made
- 10:32Speaker 1: sure asked him about this event and if it's ever
- 10:37Speaker 1: going to go to two nights Lake WrestleMania. He said, quote,
- 10:41Speaker 1: who knows what the future brings, but I do think
- 10:44Speaker 1: that even tonight seeing this Summer Slam seven match card
- 10:48Speaker 1: that goes almost four hours, to me, and yet there
- 10:52Speaker 1: was a lot of stuff we could have put into this,
- 10:54Speaker 1: and even some people saying, well why wasn't that in there?
- 10:58Speaker 1: Because it would have been eight houts, right, and you
- 11:01Speaker 1: still need stuff for all You still need massive content
- 11:04Speaker 1: for SmackDown. You still need all that stuff. As we
- 11:08Speaker 1: continue to grow, We'll take it, like I said, step
- 11:11Speaker 1: by step step. So is this the last Summer Slam
- 11:14Speaker 1: that you see that is one night? I think so,
- 11:17Speaker 1: But we'll see where that goes long term. I'm excited
- 11:20Speaker 1: about that opportunity. End quote. We've talked about on the
- 11:25Speaker 1: show about the possibility of Summer Slam going to two nights.
- 11:30Speaker 1: We've mentioned this before. I talked about it with Dave
- 11:35Speaker 1: Weekly on hotline here. Recently he asked me about it,
- 11:40Speaker 1: and I still echo the same sentiment that we have
- 11:45Speaker 1: towards it as a collective group for the three of
- 11:47Speaker 1: us on this show, that it would be it would
- 11:51Speaker 1: it would dilute the idea of having a two night
- 11:54Speaker 1: pay per view. Maybe maybe we'll see when we get
- 11:58Speaker 1: there and see how it is. But I don't know
- 12:02Speaker 1: exactly how I feel. Well, I do know exactly how
- 12:06Speaker 1: I feel about it. I don't like it too much.
- 12:10Speaker 1: If anything, you know, I know it's a four hour show.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I think SummerSlam, the main show itself came out to
- 12:15Speaker 1: three and a half hours and some change. That was
- 12:18Speaker 1: what was on Peacock. I feel as if it shouldn't.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I feel as if we should not. You know, we
- 12:27Speaker 1: shouldn't go to a to night Summer Slam, because if
- 12:30Speaker 1: you go to a two night SummerSlam, then there's a
- 12:33Speaker 1: possibility of going to a two night survivor series. That's
- 12:37Speaker 1: a little bit of a stretch, but trust me on this.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Then we'll probably go to a too night Money in
- 12:43Speaker 1: the Bank and maybe a two night at Royal Rumble.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Now could it go that far? Maybe? I think so.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I think it could. And that's just going to diminish
- 12:54Speaker 1: it a little bit with WrestleMania, because I think having
- 12:57Speaker 1: WrestleMania Night one and two is great. It gives everybody
- 13:02Speaker 1: a chance to get on the card. It makes it
- 13:04Speaker 1: feel special. It's not something that they do all the time,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and maybe that's the case with the Big Five. I
- 13:11Speaker 1: still don't like it too much. Maybe I'm just a
- 13:14Speaker 1: little bit of an old crotchety man about it, but
- 13:18Speaker 1: I don't think it is as good of an idea
- 13:22Speaker 1: as people are thinking. We'll see money talks, I mean,
- 13:26Speaker 1: that's for sure. I just, you know, I just I
- 13:31Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know. We'll We'll have to see.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I could be proved wrong. I will say this about
- 13:36Speaker 1: the to night WrestleMania, and I haven't said this on
- 13:39Speaker 1: the show before, and this literally just popped in my head.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Ww does two night events better than Nu Japan? Did
- 13:48Speaker 1: I know? New Japan started doing two night events before
- 13:52Speaker 1: the pandemic, they had wrest Wrestle Kingdom and even at
- 13:54Speaker 1: one point stretched it to a third night, which I
- 13:57Speaker 1: felt like was just way too much. I was not
- 14:01Speaker 1: a fan of the two night Wrestle Kingdoms. And maybe
- 14:04Speaker 1: it's because I'm a North American fan, because you got
- 14:08Speaker 1: to get up super early just to just to watch it. Okay,
- 14:12Speaker 1: I am not. I wasn't a fan of it. Does
- 14:18Speaker 1: WW do a much better job with it? I think so.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I think they do a much better job with a
- 14:23Speaker 1: two night event making it feel special, making it feel
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know. I mean, one, it's a WrestleMania. It's going
- 14:29Speaker 1: to feel special anyway. But to add the two nights there,
- 14:33Speaker 1: I think is a good thing. But we may see
- 14:35Speaker 1: it be diluted a little bit. If SummerSlam starts to
- 14:38Speaker 1: get a two night event, if the Royal Rumble starts
- 14:41Speaker 1: to get a two night event, Money in the Bank
- 14:43Speaker 1: Survivor Series. You know, I don't see it going any
- 14:45Speaker 1: further than the Big Five, but we'll see, we will see.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And speaking of Japan, Japanese Wrestling New JAPANI or Wrestling Kenney,
- 15:00Speaker 1: so you know that's where he made his name. Well,
- 15:03Speaker 1: I mean I know he started in DDT and all
- 15:05Speaker 1: that it looks like there is a possibility of a
- 15:08Speaker 1: Keney Omega return. We don't have anything in stone now.
- 15:11Speaker 1: This is coming from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Wrestling
- 15:15Speaker 1: Observer Newsletter. This quote comes from f fur w r
- 15:22Speaker 1: F four w online dot com quote. It looks like
- 15:25Speaker 1: a golden lover's reunion will be happening in aw Win
- 15:29Speaker 1: Kenny Omega is able to return. Both Coda Ibushi and
- 15:32Speaker 1: Omega have been out of action due to due to
- 15:36Speaker 1: injury issues. Ibushi underwent underwent ankle surgery this January, while
- 15:42Speaker 1: Omega had surgery done in May following a bount with diverticulitis.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Omega has not wrestled since December twenty twenty three, so
- 15:53Speaker 1: we're coming up on one whole year since Keny Omega
- 15:57Speaker 1: has been in the ring. And yeah, Dave Meltzer discussed
- 16:03Speaker 1: Ubushi's tweet. I guess Ibushi made a tweet talking about
- 16:06Speaker 1: how aw was his home because he did recently celebrate
- 16:11Speaker 1: an anniversary within professional wrestling and at Gleat. There was
- 16:15Speaker 1: an event at Gleat that he partook in. But he's
- 16:18Speaker 1: talking about how AW is his home, and Dave Meltzer
- 16:23Speaker 1: discussed that on Wrestling Observer Radio and noted that Omega's
- 16:27Speaker 1: health is improving. Quote, basically, when Kenny Omega returns Ibushi
- 16:32Speaker 1: is returning, Meltzer said. He basically said he's under contract
- 16:37Speaker 1: there and he's waiting for Kenny, waiting for Omega to return,
- 16:41Speaker 1: for him to return. I don't know if there's even
- 16:43Speaker 1: a date of when Omega will return, but but he'll
- 16:48Speaker 1: put it this He'll put it this way. I don't
- 16:51Speaker 1: think it's so far away as before. Usually for a wrestler,
- 16:55Speaker 1: it's about a four month recovery, and a lot of
- 16:56Speaker 1: wrestlers push it and probably come back quicker. But that
- 17:00Speaker 1: would be like mid September. And what he's referring to
- 17:03Speaker 1: is the surgery that Ken Omega just recently had to
- 17:07Speaker 1: fix the diverticulates and everything that that he was dealing
- 17:11Speaker 1: with health wise. And he says that it looks like
- 17:15Speaker 1: it might be mid September. Now, if it is mid September, okay,
- 17:23Speaker 1: double check right now of what day is all out?
- 17:27Speaker 1: I know all in will be October. On August twenty fifth,
- 17:31Speaker 1: all in will be August twenty fifth, all Out twenty
- 17:35Speaker 1: twenty four will be September seventh. So that's in Chicago. Well,
- 17:40Speaker 1: it's at the Hoffmann It's it's in it's in Chicago
- 17:43Speaker 1: at the Now Arena. That will be September seventh. All
- 17:47Speaker 1: Out will be there. If what Meltzer is going by,
- 17:51Speaker 1: and I know we're sort of taking it by gospel,
- 17:54Speaker 1: if what Meltzer is saying about Kenu Omega returning, then
- 18:01Speaker 1: that could be a week after all Out or what
- 18:05Speaker 1: we could have is ken you Omega possibly return at
- 18:08Speaker 1: the end of all Out and sort of start setting
- 18:11Speaker 1: up these this few that they're going to reignite between
- 18:15Speaker 1: him and the elite, because you know, the elite has
- 18:18Speaker 1: turned heel, you know, with the with the Bucks being
- 18:21Speaker 1: the EVPs, Kazushko Kada finally letting those those comedy chops
- 18:26Speaker 1: come out, and you know, Okata is amazing anyway, He's
- 18:30Speaker 1: a phenomenal wrestler in my opinion. With like I say
- 18:34Speaker 1: about Sword of Strickling top ten in the world, Kazushko
- 18:38Speaker 1: Kada is another one top ten in the world for me.
- 18:41Speaker 1: But with that return, we could see keny Omega. Now
- 18:46Speaker 1: this is not don't take this as fact. It's a rumor, okay,
- 18:53Speaker 1: but we can speculate a little bit. The speculation is
- 18:57Speaker 1: that keny Omega could possibly make a return mid SIPT
- 19:01Speaker 1: which then Kodubushi comes back, so the reign. So they
- 19:05Speaker 1: re they they come together and reform the Golden Lovers.
- 19:10Speaker 1: The Golden Lovers reunite and take on the elite. So
- 19:15Speaker 1: we could see that. I don't know. I don't know
- 19:19Speaker 1: for a fact. I don't know for sure, but there
- 19:22Speaker 1: is a possibility that we could see that. And speaking
- 19:26Speaker 1: of Japanese wrestling, I have something special for you all
- 19:29Speaker 1: in the upcoming segment. We're gonna talk about one of
- 19:33Speaker 1: my all time not just people, not current wrestlers, one
- 19:37Speaker 1: of my all time favorite wrestlers ever in the wrestling business,
- 19:42Speaker 1: the one and only Bruiser Brodie. Stay tuned, it's John for.
- 20:22Speaker 2: More of the Grill Out.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Here's Hollywood Jeff Petty. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen to
- 20:28Speaker 1: the Grill Ones. I am your host, Hollywood, Jeff Petty.

- 20:45Speaker 1: Out over there. Just makesure you go go like the
- 20:47Speaker 1: Facebook page. We've had a lot of interactions over there,
- 20:49Speaker 1: some of the local promotions have gotten on there showed
- 20:51Speaker 1: their support. We very much try to make sure that
- 20:54Speaker 1: you know what your next week professional wrestling looks like,
- 20:57Speaker 1: whether that be a national locally or even internationally at times.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And yeah, just make sure you go over there. We
- 21:04Speaker 1: post things all the time. We let you know where
- 21:07Speaker 1: things are going to be happening locally here within the
- 21:09Speaker 1: Charleston area or just within West Virginia. And we also
- 21:13Speaker 1: you know, post things on there. Like I said in
- 21:15Speaker 1: the previous segment, I had a chance to talk to
- 21:17Speaker 1: Dave Weekly on hotline right before SummerSlam to sort of
- 21:21Speaker 1: preview SummerSlam. So we were able to put that out
- 21:24Speaker 1: there and also to give updates on the show and
- 21:26Speaker 1: you know, interactions and all of that. So make sure
- 21:28Speaker 1: you go to the Facebook page.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Like it.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It is called just the grill Out, that's all it is.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Just type it in the grill Out. You'll see the
- 21:35Speaker 1: little symbol there, the little you know, yeah, whatever, can't
- 21:40Speaker 1: think right now. But with that being said, I did
- 21:44Speaker 1: say in the previous segment that we were going to
- 21:46Speaker 1: talk about one of my favorite professional wrestlers. Okay, I know,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I talk about Keny Omega in here a lot, Okay,
- 21:56Speaker 1: And it's not him. It's not Kenny Omega. Okay. It's
- 21:59Speaker 1: not uncoled Steve Austin, and it's not Eddie Guerrero. Those
- 22:02Speaker 1: three right there are my top three professional wrestlers of
- 22:06Speaker 1: all time. But from that point, from from four down,
- 22:12Speaker 1: it fluctuates. But one of the names that stays within
- 22:15Speaker 1: my top ten of all time favorites, not just you know,
- 22:19Speaker 1: not like I'm saying about swear of Strickland or kazuchig Okada,
- 22:23Speaker 1: where I think that they are a top ten talent
- 22:25Speaker 1: in the world. I think that this person is, in
- 22:30Speaker 1: my opinion, one of the top ten greatest ever. Now
- 22:34Speaker 1: one of the people that, you know, one of the
- 22:37Speaker 1: styles that I'm not I don't want to say I'm
- 22:40Speaker 1: not too fond of. I enjoy it, but I don't
- 22:43Speaker 1: gush over it like certain people. Is the big guys.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Like sometimes I'm not too big about the big guys.
- 22:48Speaker 1: As you can see, with my top three of all times,
- 22:50Speaker 1: Stone Cold, can Ou, Megan, can you make? Can You Omega?
- 22:53Speaker 1: And Eddie Guerrero. Excuse me, but this guy, Bruiser Brody
- 22:57Speaker 1: is my one of my favorite big men ever. Okay,
- 23:03Speaker 1: and some of the stories around Bruiser Brody are just
- 23:06Speaker 1: even more fascinating to me. And I'm not talking about
- 23:10Speaker 1: what happened to him in Puerto Rico. Okay. That's been
- 23:13Speaker 1: covered numerous times by podcasters, by wrestling journalists, by television shows.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I mean the Dark Side of the Ring. I think
- 23:21Speaker 1: that was their very first episode ever in their series,
- 23:24Speaker 1: which was the death of Bruiser Brody. But to me,
- 23:31Speaker 1: Brody is more than just that story. Okay, and I
- 23:35Speaker 1: wrote this a while back. I wrote this some years ago,
- 23:38Speaker 1: but just how it goes. Some called him King Kong,
- 23:43Speaker 1: others referred to him as Bruiser. He had a reputation
- 23:46Speaker 1: of being wild in and out of the ring, a
- 23:49Speaker 1: man who was not willing to back down from anybody,
- 23:52Speaker 1: even if they were the ones paying him. The wild
- 23:55Speaker 1: Man from Santa Fe, New Mexico, was considered one of
- 23:58Speaker 1: the last true independent wrestler at the time of his death.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Around this time, Jim Crockett Promotions, the second biggest wrestling
- 24:05Speaker 1: promotion behind the WWF, were a few months away from
- 24:09Speaker 1: selling the Ted Turner. We were also a few years
- 24:12Speaker 1: removed from McMahon buying up all of the top wrestlers
- 24:15Speaker 1: he could and raiding the territories gone. Where the days
- 24:19Speaker 1: a wrestler could go from territory to territory, promotion to
- 24:22Speaker 1: promotion and make big money to live off of Almost
- 24:26Speaker 1: everyone was going with one or the other in the States.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Brody was one of the last few stars to work independently,
- 24:33Speaker 1: actually one of the few wrestlers around that time to
- 24:35Speaker 1: not work for Vinnie Kay's WWF. But he did work
- 24:40Speaker 1: for Vinnie J's WWWF, taking on at Bruno San Martino
- 24:45Speaker 1: during his second and final run with the world title. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 1: Brody never worked for Vinnie K. He never worked for
- 24:53Speaker 1: Vince McMann, the vincement man that we know, you know,
- 24:56Speaker 1: the one that's you know with the WWF WA all
- 25:00Speaker 1: of that. He actually worked for Vince's dad, Vincent Jay
- 25:04Speaker 1: McMahon while it was the WWWF. Like I said, taken
- 25:08Speaker 1: on Brunos San Martino. Now, just to give you some background,
- 25:12Speaker 1: the man behind Bruiser Brody Frank Goodish had the background
- 25:16Speaker 1: of an athlete in American football, and he majored in
- 25:19Speaker 1: sports journalism. Goodish attended and played football for West Texas
- 25:23Speaker 1: A and M West Texas State at that time. Some
- 25:27Speaker 1: say he ended up there because of his lack of
- 25:29Speaker 1: discipline and rebellious nature he possessed growing up. This is
- 25:34Speaker 1: where he met Stan Hansen for the first time, his
- 25:37Speaker 1: future tag team partner. This is also around the time
- 25:40Speaker 1: one of his future rivals, Terry Funk, also attended and
- 25:43Speaker 1: played on the same team. Could you imagine just being
- 25:47Speaker 1: back in those days and playing against West Texas State
- 25:50Speaker 1: at the time, and you just look across and you
- 25:52Speaker 1: see Bruiser, Brodie Staying Hanson. I know it's not them,
- 25:55Speaker 1: it's you know them in college, but you got them
- 25:58Speaker 1: along with Terry Funk. I played football before, and you know,
- 26:02Speaker 1: I don't want to go against guys like that. I
- 26:04Speaker 1: don't all due respect. May May you know, may Terry
- 26:07Speaker 1: Funk and Brodie rest in peace. But they had Dorry Funk, Junior,
- 26:13Speaker 1: Funk's brother already graduated and debuted in nineteen sixty three
- 26:17Speaker 1: and professional wrestling. He also attended West Texas State. Goodish
- 26:21Speaker 1: would eventually graduate and try his hand at pro football.
- 26:25Speaker 1: That career did not pan out. He pursued a career
- 26:27Speaker 1: in sports journalism, but grew tired of it. So while
- 26:31Speaker 1: working as a journalist, he would begin his training with
- 26:34Speaker 1: Fritz van Eric, the patriarch of the famous von Eric family.
- 26:38Speaker 1: He would wrestle for world class at first, but eventually
- 26:41Speaker 1: started working the territories in the early seventies, When in
- 26:44Speaker 1: Midwestern territories he would go, he would go by King
- 26:47Speaker 1: Kong Brody to avoid confusion with Dick the Bruiser, with
- 26:51Speaker 1: whom he also had a rivalry with. Now, this was
- 26:55Speaker 1: as far as I could I could never fully confirm this,
- 26:58Speaker 1: but it did seem that that Bruiser Brody did have
- 27:02Speaker 1: a had respect for Dick the Bruiser. That's why he
- 27:06Speaker 1: never wanted to go by Bruiser Brody. Then you know,
- 27:10Speaker 1: he wanted to go by King Kong King Kong Brody
- 27:12Speaker 1: in the Midwestern territories. It was the rivalry thing, but
- 27:15Speaker 1: I think there was also an air of respect towards
- 27:17Speaker 1: Dick the Bruiser. Around this time, Brody would cross paths
- 27:21Speaker 1: once again with fellow West Texas alumni Stan Hansen. According
- 27:25Speaker 1: to Hanson. Hanson himself, he pitched the idea of them
- 27:29Speaker 1: being a tag team. Brody liked this idea and they
- 27:32Speaker 1: began tagging shortly thereafter. They would go on to tear
- 27:36Speaker 1: through everyone from the States to Japan. He would go
- 27:41Speaker 1: on to win numerous tag titles, most with Hanson. I've
- 27:46Speaker 1: watched some Stan Hansen Bruiser Brody tag matches, and I
- 27:51Speaker 1: will say this, I pity the fool okay that came
- 27:56Speaker 1: in looked at the match card. Oh, I'm in a
- 27:59Speaker 1: T match tonight. Who am I going against? Stan Hansen
- 28:04Speaker 1: and birz A Brody. You knew when you when you
- 28:08Speaker 1: looked up and you saw the match card and you
- 28:11Speaker 1: saw that's who you're going against. You, Uh, you were
- 28:15Speaker 1: gonna walk correctly after the match. You were gonna be
- 28:18Speaker 1: rather sore. I don't want to say injured, but you're
- 28:22Speaker 1: you're gonna fill it. You're gonna fill it. Stan Hansen
- 28:25Speaker 1: has gone on to record of saying Brody and him
- 28:27Speaker 1: were a more physical tag team than the Road Warriors,
- 28:31Speaker 1: especially after their time in Japan. Honestly, they had difficulty
- 28:35Speaker 1: trying to get booked in the States. Everywhere except for Florida,
- 28:38Speaker 1: A few times, go figure, so put that. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:43Speaker 1: they they couldn't really get booked anywhere else besides Florida.
- 28:46Speaker 1: They did get booked in the Florida territory from time
- 28:49Speaker 1: to time, but a lot of their tag matches were
- 28:51Speaker 1: in all Japan, over and over in Japan. And if
- 28:56Speaker 1: you've you know, you're a fan of the Road Warriors,
- 28:58Speaker 1: you know, the Legion of Doom Into to Be. They
- 29:01Speaker 1: were very physical team as well. I mean the Doomsday device,
- 29:04Speaker 1: you know, where Hawk has you know, somebody up on
- 29:07Speaker 1: their shoulders and then Animal comes over and clothes lines
- 29:10Speaker 1: a mom for vice versa. I think it was animal actually,
- 29:13Speaker 1: but I digress. I don't want to get knocked off
- 29:16Speaker 1: the shoulders of one of the Road Warriors, but I
- 29:20Speaker 1: don't know. I would probably take that over a lariat
- 29:24Speaker 1: from Stan Hansen. Okay. And by the way, if you
- 29:28Speaker 1: don't know this Stan Hansen, all due respect to him,
- 29:32Speaker 1: and and he said this in interviews that he is
- 29:35Speaker 1: he can't see very well without his glasses. He's sort
- 29:39Speaker 1: of sort of blind. It's a little hard for him
- 29:41Speaker 1: to see what's going on in front of him. And
- 29:43Speaker 1: he's just coming at you with with with with a
- 29:46Speaker 1: clothesline just to just to you know, knock the knock
- 29:49Speaker 1: the taste out of your mouth. I mean, you know, yeah,
- 29:54Speaker 1: I wouldn't I wouldn't want to mess with them. Hanson
- 29:58Speaker 1: and Brody had a memorable feud with the Funks, Dory
- 30:01Speaker 1: and Terry in All Japan. They would beat the living
- 30:04Speaker 1: daylights out of each other and then some beaten, bruised
- 30:07Speaker 1: and buddy is how most Birdie matches went. Yeah, if
- 30:11Speaker 1: you get a chance, go on YouTube and watch Stan
- 30:14Speaker 1: Hansen and Bruis of Birdie take on the Funk Brothers.
- 30:17Speaker 1: It was I mean, the crowd was electric. Okay, the
- 30:21Speaker 1: crowd was absolutely electric for this, but those were some
- 30:26Speaker 1: of the most physical matches I've ever seen. And also,
- 30:29Speaker 1: Terry Funk is amazing. He's great at what at selling.
- 30:34Speaker 1: There's I remember there's one part one match that they
- 30:37Speaker 1: had where Terry Funk he's got he's kind of busted
- 30:40Speaker 1: open on the side of his head and he's just
- 30:42Speaker 1: screaming in agony. You know, if you've watched a Terry
- 30:45Speaker 1: Funk match, you know what kind of what that voice
- 30:47Speaker 1: sounds like when he is screaming in agony and getting
- 30:50Speaker 1: you know, pulling at those at those heartstrings of the
- 30:54Speaker 1: of the audience. Birdie was well known for his brawling
- 30:59Speaker 1: style and his credit it as one of the greatest
- 31:01Speaker 1: brawlers of all time. But he wasn't just about brawling.
- 31:05Speaker 1: He knew how to wrestle. Just watch his matches with
- 31:07Speaker 1: Rick Flair and Saint Louis. He was also very agile
- 31:10Speaker 1: for a big guy, incorporating a drop kick in his
- 31:13Speaker 1: famous King Kong knee drop. Plenty of wrestlers said they
- 31:16Speaker 1: would not work with Brosie because he would and I'm
- 31:19Speaker 1: not going to say it, he would beat something out
- 31:22Speaker 1: of them, his matches with Abdullah the Butcher, with the
- 31:25Speaker 1: stuff of legends. It's kind of crazy a little bit.
- 31:28Speaker 1: But you know, if you get a chance, go watch. Yeah,
- 31:31Speaker 1: and I don't know I'm saying this a little bit,
- 31:33Speaker 1: Go watch Ric Flair. Go watch the Ric Flair matches
- 31:36Speaker 1: with Brody and Saint Louis. He can't he I mean,
- 31:39Speaker 1: if you watch, if you've seen Ric Flair matches, you
- 31:41Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about. Especially Rick Flair back in
- 31:43Speaker 1: the seventies, seventies and eighties. I mean Flair could go
- 31:46Speaker 1: in a ring. I mean he went, he would do
- 31:48Speaker 1: sixty minute broadways night in and night out. Okay, that
- 31:52Speaker 1: was just who Rick Flair was. And then you got
- 31:55Speaker 1: this big guy, bruiser Brody coming in and just just
- 31:59Speaker 1: doing it, just just just staying up with him, which
- 32:04Speaker 1: shouldn't be possible. But Brody, I mean, and Brodie's not
- 32:07Speaker 1: a small guy. He's not a small guy at all.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Brodie was doing hardcore wrestling matches long before they were cool.
- 32:18Speaker 1: He would grab anything he could, anything from umbrellas to
- 32:21Speaker 1: the piece of a table to take in his own
- 32:23Speaker 1: boot off and molly wopping Jabroni's. Other times he would
- 32:27Speaker 1: use the chain that he brought to the ring with him.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Why did he bring a chain to the ring? You
- 32:33Speaker 1: must ask? Was it because he occasionally would go as
- 32:37Speaker 1: King Kong?
- 32:38Speaker 2: No?
- 32:40Speaker 1: Was it because he was like a caged animal. Nope,
- 32:44Speaker 1: he would because fans are crazy. In those days, wrestling
- 32:47Speaker 1: fans were so into it. Wrestlers would have to fight
- 32:50Speaker 1: to get to and from the ring, more certain more
- 32:54Speaker 1: so in certain territories. Brody decided he was not about that,
- 32:57Speaker 1: so he started bringing a chain to the ring to
- 33:00Speaker 1: swing around so fans would clear. If you go back
- 33:03Speaker 1: and you watch like you get on the line and
- 33:07Speaker 1: you look up like because I know certain people, they
- 33:09Speaker 1: will make like Titan drawings. You know. I used to
- 33:12Speaker 1: do this as a kid. I would take like like
- 33:14Speaker 1: wrestling clips and I would put them together, and that's
- 33:16Speaker 1: kind of how I taught myself how to edit, and
- 33:18Speaker 1: I would I would, you know, tailor it to a
- 33:20Speaker 1: wrestling wrestler's theme. So if you go and go on line,
- 33:24Speaker 1: you look up Birzy Birdie Titandrons or Bersey Brodie theme song,
- 33:28Speaker 1: which is Led Zeppelin's immigrant song, you will see what
- 33:33Speaker 1: I'm talking about. Brody wouldn't literally come out. Fans would
- 33:37Speaker 1: already start running, okay because they knew what was about
- 33:40Speaker 1: to happen. He would come out and he would start
- 33:44Speaker 1: just slinging his chain around like it was like it
- 33:47Speaker 1: was nobody's business. Like it was just like he was
- 33:52Speaker 1: trying to clear house at that point. And it's it's
- 33:58Speaker 1: something it's not it's something that you don't see these days.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I'll tell you that one right now. In twenty twenty four,
- 34:03Speaker 1: you don't see that. But in the early eighties, early
- 34:06Speaker 1: to mid eighties, oh, you definitely saw stuff like that.
- 34:09Speaker 1: And yes, fans were crazy during those times. There's a
- 34:13Speaker 1: story of I think it was a Jimmy Hark. He
- 34:16Speaker 1: did something. He was being carried out of the ring.
- 34:18Speaker 1: He was thrown over the shoulders of somebody that he
- 34:20Speaker 1: was managing, and he was being taken out of the ring.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I think this was a Memphis if memory serves me correct,
- 34:25Speaker 1: I think it was the Memphis territory. So Jimmy Hart's
- 34:30Speaker 1: going out and he felt a pinch on his butt
- 34:35Speaker 1: and what happened. A fan shot a blow dart at
- 34:40Speaker 1: him and it hit him in his keyster. Again, fans
- 34:44Speaker 1: are crazy. They were crazy at those times. Actually, the
- 34:48Speaker 1: fans in Puerto Rico especially were nuts. They would throw
- 34:54Speaker 1: batteries at wrestlers sometimes, and I'm not trying to gross
- 34:58Speaker 1: you out, but they would sometimes throw other, you know, liquids.
- 35:04Speaker 1: We'll say that, We'll just say, for the sake of it,
- 35:06Speaker 1: just other liquids on wrestlers, because that's how that's how
- 35:10Speaker 1: much they were into it. That's how, you know, because
- 35:12Speaker 1: KFE was Technican, you know, it wasn't dead. People still
- 35:16Speaker 1: believe they still thought it was you know, it was
- 35:19Speaker 1: an actual contest. Now, of course, I don't like saying
- 35:21Speaker 1: the word fake. I've said this before in the program.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I hate the word fake. I hate calling professional wrestling
- 35:26Speaker 1: fake because it's not fake. It is predetermined. We've said
- 35:29Speaker 1: this before in the program, and those fans at that
- 35:33Speaker 1: time did not realize that it was predetermined. So you
- 35:37Speaker 1: would have to fight to get to the ring. I
- 35:40Speaker 1: think Rowdy Roddy Piper talked about like he would get
- 35:42Speaker 1: attacked sometimes going back to the ring, going back to
- 35:46Speaker 1: the dressing room per se, or going to the ring.
- 35:49Speaker 1: He would get attacked. You know, that was a common occurrence.
- 35:51Speaker 1: And I guess Brody I mean, but like I said,
- 35:53Speaker 1: Brodie's not a He's not a small guy. He's not
- 35:58Speaker 1: so he you know, he would just bring that chain.
- 36:00Speaker 1: He would just you know, just swing it around. But
- 36:03Speaker 1: he did have a reputation and he had a reputation
- 36:06Speaker 1: as an unpredictable wild man made but that made him
- 36:10Speaker 1: a legend in the States, but a god in Japan.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I mean, that's how he was looked at by by
- 36:16Speaker 1: certain certain wrestlers, certain fans, not wrestlers, but certain fans.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Bertie was and is so iconic in Japanese professional wrestling.
- 36:24Speaker 1: They still make reference to him. Minor of Zuzuki came
- 36:28Speaker 1: out like Brody in All Japan. I mean literally he
- 36:32Speaker 1: had the entire get up the led Zeppelin's Immigrant songs playing.
- 36:37Speaker 1: He's swinging the chain around. This is in the two thousands,
- 36:40Speaker 1: I think the twenty ten so I think it maybe
- 36:42Speaker 1: been twenty fifteen. Twenty sixteen was when when Minora of
- 36:46Speaker 1: Zuzuki you know what, people who people call murder Grandpa
- 36:49Speaker 1: came out to Togi maka Bee, who still does some
- 36:53Speaker 1: things in New Japan. His whole his whole thing is
- 36:57Speaker 1: based around Bruis of Brody so much so. But when
- 37:00Speaker 1: I first started watching New Japan back in the back,
- 37:04Speaker 1: when you know, Guinea Omega and and and and the
- 37:07Speaker 1: Bucks and the Bullet Club were huge, and they still
- 37:09Speaker 1: kind of are, but not to the level they once were.
- 37:12Speaker 1: When it was Tanahashi and and and Okada, I was
- 37:15Speaker 1: introduced to a whole new cast of professional wrestlers. And
- 37:19Speaker 1: Togy Makabee was interesting to me because I already kind
- 37:23Speaker 1: of I already knew about Brody, but like at the
- 37:26Speaker 1: bottom of the screen it would say, you know, we
- 37:28Speaker 1: cannot play this song due to copyrights in your country.
- 37:32Speaker 1: What it was they were playing led Zeppelin's Immigrant song.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Now they had some generic rock music over it, but
- 37:37Speaker 1: that's what they were playing because he takes influence from
- 37:41Speaker 1: from Bruzz of Brody. But don't let that fool you.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Brody was a very intelligent person. He knew the value
- 37:48Speaker 1: of him as Bruise of Brody. Some people would say
- 37:51Speaker 1: that he was not in the professional wrestling business, but
- 37:54Speaker 1: he was in the Bruiser Brody business. I don't think
- 37:58Speaker 1: that is entirely true. That is my opinion. There's there's
- 38:04Speaker 1: cases of where Brody would not be cooperative with a
- 38:09Speaker 1: certain promoter, and and it sometimes it depended on the promoter,
- 38:13Speaker 1: sometimes it permitted, it depended on he didn't like he
- 38:17Speaker 1: did not like the match. Yes, there there have been
- 38:21Speaker 1: plenty of times Brodie's uncooperative nature has led to him
- 38:24Speaker 1: sticking up a card. But plenty of wrestlers, from Brett
- 38:28Speaker 1: Hart to the Road Warriors and beyond, have said Brody's
- 38:31Speaker 1: actions showed them how much power a performer could have,
- 38:36Speaker 1: you know, and I'm not it's not it's not so
- 38:39Speaker 1: much these days, but in in back in back in
- 38:42Speaker 1: the territory days, you had promoters that would not want
- 38:46Speaker 1: to pay you. You know, there's the old, the old
- 38:49Speaker 1: saying you get a hot dog and a handshake, it's
- 38:52Speaker 1: what you get for your troubles. Well, you know that
- 38:55Speaker 1: wasn't good enough for Brody. One of the most famous
- 38:58Speaker 1: examples of Brodie not taking anybody's crap was his still
- 39:02Speaker 1: cage match with Lex Luger. Nobody really knows what that
- 39:06Speaker 1: was over, not even Luger himself. Some say it was
- 39:09Speaker 1: because Luger was too cocky and Brodie didn't appreciate that.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Others say it was because the promoter was stiffing Brodie
- 39:16Speaker 1: on pay, so he did it to embarrass him. Nobody
- 39:20Speaker 1: knows for sure in this case. But one thing we
- 39:22Speaker 1: do know is that bruds of Brody, he wasn't a
- 39:26Speaker 1: He was not he wasn't a honey badger. He was
- 39:28Speaker 1: as a straight up gator. And you know there's the
- 39:30Speaker 1: famous Will Ferrell gator don't play no games clip, You
- 39:35Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about. But yeah, and Luger, Yeah,
- 39:38Speaker 1: Luger has no idea what that was over. There was
- 39:40Speaker 1: a still cage match between Luger and Brody. And just
- 39:43Speaker 1: and fun fact, the referee in that match was Bill Alfonso,
- 39:47Speaker 1: you know, the guy who blow the whistle for Sabu
- 39:50Speaker 1: and uh An RVD in ECW in that still cage match,
- 39:58Speaker 1: Brody just quit selling. What I mean by selling, He's
- 40:01Speaker 1: not like Luger hits him and he's supposed to register, like, oh,
- 40:05Speaker 1: you know, that's that's called selling. But he wasn't. He
- 40:11Speaker 1: quit it. He quit selling and just stared at him
- 40:15Speaker 1: and knowing how Brody is, Luger said, I ain't doing it.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I ain't doing it. I'm out. He climbs the cage
- 40:24Speaker 1: and leaves. He's not doing it. He said, I'm good,
- 40:27Speaker 1: I'm good. He didn't put up with anything. Brodie didn't.
- 40:32Speaker 1: He just didn't. Most say this behavior is what led
- 40:36Speaker 1: to Brodie's unfortunate death. Like I said at the start
- 40:39Speaker 1: of this, I'm not going to cover it much here
- 40:42Speaker 1: because it has. It's been covered so much anyway, from
- 40:47Speaker 1: YouTube to Dark Side of the Ring and that right now,
- 40:51Speaker 1: you know, we're twenty and a half minutes in. We've
- 40:54Speaker 1: covered so much of Brewis or Brody, so you know
- 40:57Speaker 1: in this segment, so I'm not going to so much
- 41:00Speaker 1: cover that, but real quick, just to summarize, Brody was
- 41:04Speaker 1: working in the Puerto Rican Territory World Wrestling Council. It's
- 41:08Speaker 1: run by Carlos Cologne, who is the dad of of
- 41:13Speaker 1: Carlito the booker. Jose Gonzalez, aka Invader Number one, had
- 41:18Speaker 1: a long and bitter hatred for Brody. For Brody, the
- 41:22Speaker 1: filling was mutual. According to sum, they owed him a
- 41:27Speaker 1: lot of money the promotion, somewhere in the twenty thousand
- 41:29Speaker 1: dollars range. Nevertheless, Gonzalez and Brody did not like each other.
- 41:34Speaker 1: While talking business with one with each other, one day
- 41:38Speaker 1: Gonzales stabbed Brody twice. Now, the reason for this is murky.
- 41:46Speaker 1: There's been people that have come out and said that,
- 41:49Speaker 1: you know that it was planned. The reason for it,
- 41:53Speaker 1: you know, the reason why Jose Gonzalez got a you
- 41:56Speaker 1: know was was acquitted on this was it was cited
- 41:59Speaker 1: as self as self defense. Nobody was ever charged for
- 42:04Speaker 1: the murder citing self defense. As to what I said,
- 42:06Speaker 1: there was a huge cover up and a lot of
- 42:08Speaker 1: corruption was at play, allegedly. To put it into perspective,
- 42:11Speaker 1: how impactful this was, a lot of wrestlers refused to
- 42:15Speaker 1: work in Puerto Rico after that. The territory suffered immensely
- 42:19Speaker 1: for it, and they are still in operation today. But
- 42:22Speaker 1: not to the level they were once at. And also,
- 42:26Speaker 1: like I said, during those days, k Febe was real.
- 42:31Speaker 1: It was you know, this wasn't a predetermined contest what
- 42:35Speaker 1: we're used to these days. It was a real thing.
- 42:41Speaker 1: It just like so when they when they go and
- 42:44Speaker 1: they say, hey, you know it was it was self defense.
- 42:49Speaker 1: You know, that's what the that's what the courts say.
- 42:50Speaker 1: That's what we have to go by. It's it's a
- 42:53Speaker 1: lot of allegations and it's some allegedlies. The court believed
- 42:58Speaker 1: it because Brody had this, you know, this unhinged character
- 43:02Speaker 1: in the ring. You know, he was the madman from
- 43:04Speaker 1: Santa Fe, New Mexico. I mean he had the crazy hair,
- 43:07Speaker 1: the beard, you know, the marks on his forehead, the chain, everything.
- 43:14Speaker 1: If if Bruiser Brody were not killed on that fateful
- 43:17Speaker 1: July day in nineteen eighty eight, what would have happened.
- 43:20Speaker 1: It's hard to tell, mainly due to his unpredictable nature,
- 43:23Speaker 1: because like I said, Brody was very unpredictable about things.
- 43:27Speaker 1: In my opinion, Brody would not have been working the
- 43:30Speaker 1: territories as much because the money would have dried up eventually.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Like I said at the top of this segment, there
- 43:38Speaker 1: were already some moving parts. Ted Turner was about to
- 43:40Speaker 1: acquire Jim Crockett Promotions. Vince McMahon pretty much had who
- 43:45Speaker 1: he needed at that point because and at the time
- 43:47Speaker 1: WWF was in their golden age. You know, you had
- 43:50Speaker 1: HAULK Hogan, Macho Man, Randy Savage, the Ultimate Warrior, et cetera,
- 43:54Speaker 1: et cetera. So the money would have dried up. And
- 43:59Speaker 1: at that point, I mean, Brody he had went for
- 44:02Speaker 1: a while, so I would say maybe in the early
- 44:04Speaker 1: nineties he would have he would have dried up. But
- 44:07Speaker 1: Jim Nord, the man behind the Berserker, claims that Birdie
- 44:11Speaker 1: was in talks with WWF to bring them in as
- 44:14Speaker 1: a tag team before he passed. I don't know. I
- 44:17Speaker 1: don't know how true that is, so you know, take
- 44:19Speaker 1: it how you want. I think Birdy would have gone
- 44:22Speaker 1: there if the money were right, but wouldn't would not
- 44:25Speaker 1: have stayed long simply because that's just that's Brody's m
- 44:30Speaker 1: you know. I don't think he would have wanted to
- 44:31Speaker 1: stay in one spot for very long. Vincent him would
- 44:34Speaker 1: not have worked well together. I think there would have
- 44:37Speaker 1: been definitely some friction there and and he would have
- 44:40Speaker 1: maybe signed with Crockett, but I could honestly see him
- 44:43Speaker 1: going back to All Japan like Hanson and finishing his
- 44:46Speaker 1: career there. Now, that also leads to another thing, because
- 44:49Speaker 1: you eventually had the UH and just to wrap everything up,
- 44:53Speaker 1: you you had, you know, around that time, this split
- 44:56Speaker 1: with Pro Wrestling Noah and when when Mitze Horror Mazzawa
- 45:01Speaker 1: took you know, pretty much everybody but stand Hanson with
- 45:05Speaker 1: him to form Pro Wrestling Noah from All Japan. Yeah,
- 45:07Speaker 1: Hanson stayed behind as a sort of as loyalty to
- 45:12Speaker 1: Giant Baba. I think that Brody would have stayed with Hanson,
- 45:20Speaker 1: he would have stayed there in All Japan. I don't
- 45:23Speaker 1: think he would have went. I think he would have
- 45:25Speaker 1: went to All Japan and once that you know, that
- 45:28Speaker 1: split with Pro Wrestling Noah happened, Hanson and Birdy would
- 45:33Speaker 1: have both been standing there. Alas, Brody is easily one
- 45:38Speaker 1: of the greats of professional wrestling. Yes, he was a
- 45:41Speaker 1: tough businessman, but he was smart and knew he could
- 45:43Speaker 1: draw money. Yes, he didn't like promoters and was difficult
- 45:46Speaker 1: on them. Apparently you can thank Bill Watts for that one, allegedly.
- 45:50Speaker 1: But when brewis and Brady would come to town. It
- 45:52Speaker 1: would sometimes save somebody's business because of the money they
- 45:55Speaker 1: would draw. In my opinion, Brody wanted to make sure
- 45:58Speaker 1: he was respected and make sure he seed his cut
- 46:00Speaker 1: of the pie he had rightfully earned. I don't blame
- 46:04Speaker 1: Brodie for standing his ground. That's what any respectable human
- 46:08Speaker 1: being would do. That's my opinion. And yeah, but that's
- 46:14Speaker 1: it on Bruisy Brodie, Ladies and gentlemen, he was a
- 46:18Speaker 1: man who did not take lightly to disrespect and he
- 46:21Speaker 1: would take matters into his own hands. He walked to
- 46:24Speaker 1: the beat of his own drum, and that drum was
- 46:26Speaker 1: followed by Zeppelin's Immigrant Song. I wanted to thank all
- 46:31Speaker 1: of you for, you know, sticking this long on the segment.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Up next, we have on this day in wrestling history
- 46:39Speaker 1: and the main event. Stay tuned once again, here's Hollywood
- 47:18Speaker 1: and Jeff Petty. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen to the
- 47:22Speaker 1: grill Lines. I am your host, Hollywood, Jeff Petty. I
- 47:25Speaker 1: hope you all enjoyed one. All I had to say
- 47:27Speaker 1: about Brzy Birdie. Like I said in the segment, Bruise
- 47:30Speaker 1: Birdie is one of my all time favorites. One of
- 47:33Speaker 1: my all time favorite professional wrestlers. I enjoy, you know,
- 47:37Speaker 1: Like I said, I think the stories around Birdie are fascinating.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I think that, you know, unfortunately his passing overshadows a
- 47:47Speaker 1: lot of his accomplishments. So, and one thing I forgot
- 47:51Speaker 1: to mention was, you know the original Triple Crown that
- 47:54Speaker 1: all Japan has, uh, Brody was a part of the
- 47:58Speaker 1: process of that, with Umboo Jumbo Sodata taking the I
- 48:02Speaker 1: think it was a PWF heavyweight title off of Brody
- 48:05Speaker 1: at time, and you know, eventually getting the other two
- 48:08Speaker 1: to create the Triple ground. So Brody had a hand
- 48:10Speaker 1: in that. I just I do. I think his legacy
- 48:13Speaker 1: is overshadowed a lot by his unfortunate passing, and I
- 48:17Speaker 1: think that's I don't I don't agree with that. I
- 48:20Speaker 1: think we should know more about Brody and understand that
- 48:23Speaker 1: the man wasn't he wasn't perfect, he wasn't, but he
- 48:26Speaker 1: you know, I had I will always have respect for
- 48:29Speaker 1: somebody that stands up for themselves. I always will, and
- 48:33Speaker 1: that that that opinion will never change. So on this
- 48:39Speaker 1: day in wrestling History, August eleventh, nineteen ninety seven, on Raw,
- 48:57Speaker 1: Sean Michael was returned to in ring action against Mankind
- 49:01Speaker 1: and revealed his new insurance policy to the return to
- 49:05Speaker 1: be the returning ravishing Rick Rude. Also on the show,
- 49:08Speaker 1: The Nation of Domination revealed Rocky Mayavilla as its newest member.
- 49:12Speaker 1: You know, before that you had Rocky Mayavilla, who was
- 49:15Speaker 1: you know, this weight meat, babyface. He comes over to
- 49:17Speaker 1: the Nation of Domination and eventually pretty much within the year,
- 49:21Speaker 1: well actually within the next six months, he takes over
- 49:25Speaker 1: as the leader, you know, for Ruke is out, we
- 49:27Speaker 1: have the Rock. So this was you know, the Rock
- 49:30Speaker 1: first joining the Nation of Domination in nineteen ninety seven.
- 49:34Speaker 1: You know this in August eleventh year, you know that
- 49:37Speaker 1: many years ago. August eleventh, two thousand and three, raw
- 49:41Speaker 1: Co General manager Eric Bischoff is forced to face the
- 49:44Speaker 1: recently unmasked Caine one on one as Goldberg takes on
- 49:48Speaker 1: the Nature Boy Ric Flair in the main event. I
- 49:52Speaker 1: remember that specifically as a small child, the the not
- 49:57Speaker 1: not this episode in particular, the episode so before that
- 50:00Speaker 1: with Caine being unmasked, I you know, it terrified me,
- 50:06Speaker 1: absolutely terrified me as a child. I mean I was,
- 50:09Speaker 1: I couldn't. I was already terrified of the Undertaker, Like
- 50:12Speaker 1: I hated the way his music opened with Gong and
- 50:16Speaker 1: I would just take off just running after this I started.
- 50:20Speaker 1: I got the same way with Kane, you know. Sorry, Glenn,
- 50:23Speaker 1: Sorry August eleventh. I don't know why one keep saying.
- 50:27Speaker 1: October August eleventh, twenty nineteen, Bray Wyatt's new alter ego,
- 50:32Speaker 1: The Fiend, made his makes its in ring debut at
- 50:35Speaker 1: Summerslim against Finn Balor and seth Rawlins regained the Universal
- 50:40Speaker 1: Championship from brock Lesnar. The Fiend was probably, in my opinion,
- 50:49Speaker 1: it's probably Bray's greatest ascid greatest, greatest thing he invented.
- 50:56Speaker 1: I think it was. You know, it's terrifying, you know,
- 50:59Speaker 1: that's what Bray was out. So yeah, twenty nineteen, what
- 51:03Speaker 1: five years ago, The Fiend went and made its debut,
- 51:08Speaker 1: moving on to the main event where we go ahead
- 51:11Speaker 1: and we let you know what's your next week a
- 51:12Speaker 1: professional wrestling looks like nationally and sometimes internationally. For National
- 51:17Speaker 1: it's pretty much your regularly scheduled programming. But we're all

- 51:27Speaker 1: will not be on the Sci Fi Network like they
- 51:29Speaker 1: have been the past couple of weeks, so you know
- 51:32Speaker 1: they will be back to where they rightfully should be. Locally,
- 51:37Speaker 1: we don't have too much going on this upcoming week,
- 51:39Speaker 1: but you know, we like to go ahead and let
- 51:41Speaker 1: you know where this is where everything's happening. On Saturday,

- 54:06Speaker 1: mid Atlantic, et cetera, et cetera, many different wrestling promotions.
- 54:10Speaker 1: They bust their butts, they do. And you know, some
