- 0:26Speaker 1: back at it after the buye they'll take on the Rams,
- 0:30Speaker 1: who been really a tale of two seasons so far
- 0:33Speaker 1: for the Rams. They started one to four, then they
- 0:35Speaker 1: won for of their next five. What to wallaping at
- 0:38Speaker 1: the hands of the Eagles on Sunday Night football Sarah
- 0:40Speaker 1: bar Shop is there for all of it. ESPN NFL
- 0:43Speaker 1: Nation reporter covering the Rams joins us, now, Sarah, we
- 0:46Speaker 1: appreciate it. How are you? I'm good? How are you
- 0:49Speaker 1: doing doing fantastic? How big of a setback was Sunday
- 0:53Speaker 1: night against the Rams? I excuse me, against the Eagles.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I think it showed kind of where the team is
- 1:00Speaker 2: right like they might be competing in this division because
- 1:04Speaker 2: it's pretty close. I think every team has five losses
- 1:07Speaker 2: but or at least five losses. But it showed, you know,
- 1:12Speaker 2: a really good NFC team in the Eagles. They're not
- 1:15Speaker 2: there yet, so a step back. But obviously the conversation
- 1:18Speaker 2: in the locker room after game at the podium is
- 1:20Speaker 2: Sean McVay was got to learn from this because clearly
- 1:24Speaker 2: they're running out of time to figure out how to
- 1:27Speaker 2: be consistent, especially on offense, to be at the point
- 1:30Speaker 2: where they are at the same level as some of
- 1:32Speaker 2: these elite teams in the NFC.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Let's talk about the inconsistency when they started one in
- 1:37Speaker 1: four what went so wrong?
- 1:41Speaker 2: I think it was injuries at the start of the season,
- 1:43Speaker 2: obviously Cooper cup Pup and Akua, but then those injuries
- 1:46Speaker 2: on the offensive line, Jonah Jackson, Steve Badela, and they
- 1:50Speaker 2: never had that consistency just in terms of who was
- 1:53Speaker 2: on the field for the offense. So I think that's
- 1:56Speaker 2: where it started early in the season.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Was the four one stretch subsequent just a product of
- 2:02Speaker 1: the team getting.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Healthy, I think so. But even in that, you look
- 2:07Speaker 2: at that game in Miami or against Miami at home
- 2:10Speaker 2: on Monday night, football, they were inconsistent, and they've scored
- 2:14Speaker 2: two touchdowns in first quarters this season. So I think
- 2:17Speaker 2: it's probably a combination of, Yes, they have gotten healthy,
- 2:20Speaker 2: but they still have a long way to go, and
- 2:23Speaker 2: they really don't have answers because when we ask, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 2: why is it inconsistent, the answer is just both's execution,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and so they're obviously still figuring out how to fix that.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Sa Kwon went for over two point fifty on Sunday
- 2:35Speaker 1: Night Football. We all saw it and there's a lot
- 2:37Speaker 1: of people here kind of licking their chops a little
- 2:38Speaker 1: bit with the Saints having a bye and run game
- 2:42Speaker 1: getting going a little bit. Is that the Saints line
- 2:43Speaker 1: has gotten healthy. Is the Rams run defense really that bad?
- 2:48Speaker 2: I don't think so. It's you know, early in the season,
- 2:52Speaker 2: this defense as a whole struggle. It's very young defense.
- 2:55Speaker 2: After Aaron Donald's retired this offseason, a lot of first
- 2:58Speaker 2: and second year guys in the front seven, and then
- 3:02Speaker 2: I think they looked a little bit better. And then
- 3:05Speaker 2: obviously what stake on On Barclay did is something that I
- 3:08Speaker 2: think he hasn't done that to every team they've played.
- 3:11Speaker 2: But I think it's very clear that he's a good player,
- 3:14Speaker 2: So I think it's probably somewhere in the middle. You
- 3:17Speaker 2: don't know that the run defense is the strength of
- 3:19Speaker 2: this defense, but I don't think they are what they
- 3:22Speaker 2: showed on Sunday against the Eagles.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Sure, what do you think is the strength of the
- 3:26Speaker 1: Rams defense?
- 3:30Speaker 2: I think it is a front seven. Obviously it didn't
- 3:32Speaker 2: show and we talked to a lot of guys in
- 3:34Speaker 2: the locker room after the game. Kobe Turner was saying,
- 3:37Speaker 2: you know, we weren't gap dound, made a lot of mistakes.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Jared Verse said, everyone was kind of trying to make
- 3:45Speaker 2: a play and that's kind of where the he put
- 3:49Speaker 2: it on him. I don't know how much of that
- 3:51Speaker 2: is true, but after immediately after the game, he was saying,
- 3:54Speaker 2: you know that was that was on me. We need
- 3:56Speaker 2: to play better, that kind of thing. But I do
- 3:59Speaker 2: think the strength is that that young front seven, and
- 4:02Speaker 2: you look at Jared Versus, Braden Fish, Kobe Turner, Bobby Brown.
- 4:06Speaker 2: They have a lot of talent there, and in the
- 4:08Speaker 2: middle of the season, during that winning streak, I think
- 4:11Speaker 2: we saw how good they can be if you've lived over.
- 4:14Speaker 1: To the offensive side. Matthew Stafford obviously has been a
- 4:17Speaker 1: great player, and I think probably's heading for the Hall
- 4:19Speaker 1: of Fame someday. At what level would you say that
- 4:24Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford is playing right now relative to his careers
- 4:27Speaker 1: an aging player we all understand is great player, but
- 4:30Speaker 1: what capacity is he still?
- 4:33Speaker 2: I still think he's very good, and I think a
- 4:35Speaker 2: lot of that is just how mentally good he is
- 4:39Speaker 2: at this game, at facing defensive. You know, his teammates
- 4:42Speaker 2: talk about how his knowledge makes such a big difference
- 4:46Speaker 2: for this offense. Just the defense he's seeing stuff like that,
- 4:50Speaker 2: his relationship with Cooper Cup and the time they've put
- 4:54Speaker 2: together on the field. I think he's still very good,
- 4:57Speaker 2: but again, he's been part of the he's in. This
- 5:00Speaker 2: offense has been so inconsistent now takes all eleven, which
- 5:03Speaker 2: is the thing that is said, you know, time and
- 5:06Speaker 2: time and again in the locker room. But you look
- 5:08Speaker 2: at him, He's four touchdowns and then no touchdowns the
- 5:12Speaker 2: next week, And I think part of that is the
- 5:16Speaker 2: offense in general. The running game has been inconsistent as well,
- 5:20Speaker 2: But I don't think he looks like the Matthew Stafford
- 5:23Speaker 2: that came on at the end of last season when
- 5:26Speaker 2: they went on that run. But I don't think these
- 5:29Speaker 2: issues are because of the way he's played, just by himself.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So then and Sarah Barshop is with a ESPN NFL
- 5:36Speaker 1: Nation reporter covers the rams when the offense has kind
- 5:38Speaker 1: of been stuck in the mud, and that's that's happened
- 5:40Speaker 1: a little bit to this team this year. Some of it,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I'm sure would be injuries with Nikouh and Cup like
- 5:44Speaker 1: you mentioned, but when the offense has struggled, what has
- 5:47Speaker 1: sort of been the impetus for.
- 5:48Speaker 2: That, So then they get behind the sticks, right like
- 5:52Speaker 2: a first play lost the yards or a penalty, and
- 5:56Speaker 2: then you know that's what Matthew Stafford shop mcfaith said, Well,
- 6:00Speaker 2: then it's execution. It's harder to execute when the defense
- 6:04Speaker 2: has more of an idea of what's coming. Some of
- 6:07Speaker 2: it is the run game has flowed on a little bit.
- 6:10Speaker 2: So I think look that true is if they knew
- 6:13Speaker 2: the answer, I don't know that they'd be in this position.
- 6:15Speaker 2: But I think a lot of it is just getting
- 6:17Speaker 2: behind and in the sixth specifically, and just having a
- 6:22Speaker 2: hard time getting back on track.
- 6:24Speaker 1: The line on this game is two and a half.
- 6:26Speaker 1: It's been three. I think it's bumped down just a
- 6:27Speaker 1: little bit. That could indicate you could be talking about
- 6:30Speaker 1: a field goal game. Joshua Carty's in his first season
- 6:33Speaker 1: with the Rams. If it comes down to a kick,
- 6:36Speaker 1: how confident are you he makes it?
- 6:40Speaker 2: I think pretty confident. It's been interesting you talk about
- 6:43Speaker 2: the inconsistency he missed from twenty six two weeks ago.
- 6:48Speaker 2: The week before that he went five or six. It
- 6:49Speaker 2: would have been six or six if it wasn't for
- 6:51Speaker 2: a false start that pushed them pretty far out of
- 6:55Speaker 2: field goal range. After that, the Patriots game show makes
- 7:00Speaker 2: he said, you know, he didn't have a lot of
- 7:01Speaker 2: confidence in the operation that game, and he said it
- 7:05Speaker 2: wasn't just Cardi, but in general. That's why he went
- 7:08Speaker 2: forward on fourth down on the play. And we asked
- 7:11Speaker 2: him about it this past week and said, do you
- 7:13Speaker 2: still have Compton? He said yes, but of course Cardi
- 7:16Speaker 2: had again another miss. So I think he will make it.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I think it helps that indoors, But yeah, you know,
- 7:25Speaker 2: it's been an interesting season for.
- 7:27Speaker 1: The rookie kicker is Sarah. If Sean McVay has a
- 7:30Speaker 1: blueprint win Sunday in the Dome, what does it look like?
- 7:34Speaker 2: I think it's getting that run game going early, not
- 7:38Speaker 2: being in these obvious passing downs, and just being able
- 7:41Speaker 2: to show what we've seen at times as this offense
- 7:45Speaker 2: keeps going, putting that together and then not turning the
- 7:48Speaker 2: ball over. That's been something. There's only been two games
- 7:50Speaker 2: this year where they have not turned the ball over,
- 7:54Speaker 2: and bolth Of were wins. So obviously takeaways, you know,
- 7:58Speaker 2: win games, but I think that's something specific. Kyra Williams
- 8:01Speaker 2: not fumbling, Matthew Safford Nott throwing an interception will go
- 8:04Speaker 2: go a long way for them.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Sarah bar Shop. You don't get her on Twitter ex
- 8:07Speaker 1: at Sarah barr Shop spelled just like it sounds. ESPN
