Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans, welcome in to Dove All Daily, presented by Jimjag.com, and fueled by Brass Tax Coffee right now, you know, I said we're only going to have one video today.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: I was wrong.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like I have to talk a little bit more about the Jaguar's edge group right now, which is really a fascinating group.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: I've come to a conclusion on where I think the Jack Wars stand with this edge group.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: What I think is going to happen with it?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Having said that, I could be completely wrong.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's just my read, my take on the way things are going with this edge group right now.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to get into a really pretty shate y'all tuning in.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, all jacks, all the time, please like and subscribe.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: You can also hit that high button.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: So edge group for the Jack Wars.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you have your pillars, your top two guys, Josh Hines Allen, Trayvon Walker, both of whom are very complete, well-rounded edges who help the Jack Wars to be one of the best run defenses, if not the best run defense heading into 2026, but also get the job done on passing downs when both of them are healthy.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Hines Allen, he was one of the better pass vouchers he has been in the league for a while and then
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think had really been coming on and improving and stuff and then he obviously dealt with the hand injury and lower leg injury So it was I should say leg injury.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was his knee, but yeah, he was battling through last year Wasn't as productive as a Russia as he'd like to be but still a really good run defender So nobody really has question about those guys like they getting paid a lot the franchise loves them their productive players Awesome
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: The question was, what do you have after that?
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I've gotten to the point where I think you can really start to figure out some different roles here, and I've also gotten to the point where I think the roster math can math for the Jaguar is actually keeping six edge players.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: this year which they did to start the season last year too so it's not unprecedented for them to do that but I think that's the direction that we're heading here and this one you have Wesley Williams who I think the Jaguar's drafted obviously fourth round this year rookie they traded up to get him not a ton but like to trade it up a little bit to go get Wesley Williams out of Duke and he's a
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: bigger stronger player, not like the hyper-explosive athlete, but he showed a lot as a special teamer on field goal block.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: He showed the ability to get his hands up and bat passes at the line, which you saw him to do in the scrimmage today.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: Saw him to, saw him do, excuse me, and the scrimmage today.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Wesley Williams batted a pass at the line, which was good to see him do that.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think you saw him work pretty well on games up front at Duke, and you also saw him show the ability to reduce inside as a Russia, especially at the senior role.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I think that there's a lot there, but the bottom line is he's probably not going to be a super big impact in year one, but he's a player they drafted.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: They're not cutting him.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Player they drafted in the fourth round.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's way too early
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely, you know, he's in.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: Then it was like, well, are they only going to keep five because when you think about like traditional roster math and different spots, it was like five kind of makes sense.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: But then you look at the players, you would have to potentially cut one of them.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: It would, it would
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: probably be a player that they don't want to risk trying to stash on the practice squad.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: And that's B.J.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: Green, or Danny Striggo, or Zack Derfey, who they drafted this year.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: And just starting with B.J.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: Green here, B.J.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: Green dominated practice today.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: Dominate, he got at least, it seemed like at least five would be sacks, like he beat the offensive tackle he was up against with ease was in the backfield and had to stop.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the quarterback escapes on one or two of those you never know, but like BJ Green, this was kind of the exclamation point at the end of the sentence on what his training camp has been so far, but
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: uh... it's been good the whole time like he's been doing work he has absolutely been doing work for the jaguars uh... this training camp which been good to see people calling me during recording that happened in folks so i think bj green is a player they would view as a legitimate third past rush down edge that has the ability to win one-on-ones
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: then you have Danny Strigger.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: Why don't think you're seeing as like a legit, just win one-on-one type of guy?
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's just out-ath leading an out-manuvering, a lot of starting offensive tackles in the NFL.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: However, he's a really good run defender.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's a really smart and hardworking player.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, like, on a play, he's gonna work his tail off the entire play.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to execute his job.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he's somebody you can move around to utilize as a guy who you can work with games up front and clear past refreshing situations.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: And on base downs, just trust him to do his job.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's great, right?
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then Zach Durphy, he's been given everybody fits.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: The seventh round pick out of Washington, Prospect X. I always call him like the X-factor Prospect.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's Prospect X.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: is super explosive like for people that don't know, this is a guy who.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: Unbelievable athlete like tested almost jumped like over 39 inches, ran in the four or five.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a small guy.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like you're talking about like a 240 pound edgerizer.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's in the 250's.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a guy who has like the athletic and physical tools.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then you talk about what he was able to do last year at Washington.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: He played very well.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's a little older prospect as most of the Jaguar's young guys are, but he's dealt with injuries throughout his young career in college, but last year he had 35 pressures on four sacks.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he was very productive.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: 35 pressures on 225 past rush snaps is really very strong, and he's bringing it.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: So, in summation, I honestly think the jackores are going to keep all six of those guys.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: For a long time, I was like, trying to, you know, do this math in my head, figuring out the roster, and I haven't projected them yet to do that, to keep all six.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I think you have BJ Greenens actor for you who are guys that have the potential inability to win one-on-one, as past rushers.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think they can both also set the edge, but they can win one-on-one as pass rushers.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: You have Danny Strickle who's just like a glue guy who just does everything the right way, but might not ever be a true one-on-one pass rush winner, but can definitely execute.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then you have Wesley Williams who still developing, we don't really know exactly what he's gonna be.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: They expect him to continue to get bigger and stronger.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's already a big, strong dude.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: definitely can execute as an edge defender, you know, setting the edge can reduce down inside and is definitely a very good helpful guy on, you know, field goal block.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I think all those guys are staying and helping the rotation with Josh Hineson and Trayvon Walker and what a lot of people like to see a veteran to be in that mix.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they would.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: People are on the league, fans, et cetera, but I think the Jaguar is really like, again, two players in Zackdurfie and BJ Green who look like they can win one-on-one.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: And pass for our situations.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then Danny Striggow and Wesley Williams who are not the same exact prototype, but I think right now, would both project as based down defenders.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: could be in a lot worse situation.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, could be.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: Could you have a more proven third edge?
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you could.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: But that's not how the Jack Wars are rolling right now.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Could they change their mind?
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: Could they pivot?
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but then you're kicking one of these guys out of the room that you like.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they like all three of the guys that are like kind of in question for me, which again is green, durfrey, and sugar.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: But I just wanted to provide that update.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: My prediction is they will keep six edge rushers, which will make one other spot on the roster potentially thin.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: And my projection right now is actually five corners.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: With Jabar Mohamed being the fifth, obviously Travis Hunter, Jordan Lewis, Jarring Jones, Buster Brown being the top four.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: That could be a little bit risky, but they've got young corners that they can stash on the practice squad that can potentially help out, you know, break glass in case of emergency and Cory Valentine, they might be able to stash on the practice squad as well.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: There's a guy that has experience starting in the league.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to do it.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe y'all of great one.
