- 0:41SPEAKER_02: This is, if not the line, I find it to be very, very effective.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: That's one of the main reasons I held on to this interview with Christine.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: Um because I wanted to take her line for a spin and I have an yeah, amazing results.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, for me, uh probably my body, the whole body has these fresh parts, and I've been really kind of monitoring if it's made a difference in those that it has, um, not like something where they're completely gone, but definitely, you know, the entire area is smoother, it's more just it looks more uniform.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: So my point is, I think the idea behind KO is brilliant.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, we really should be approaching our body's skincare the same way we do for our face.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Um, molecularly, structurally, um, it makes sense, you know, from a science perspective.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: So I urge you guys to check out KO Body Care and stay tuned for this episode because it's really, really good.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: And I really loved um talking to Christine about her entire journey.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: So thank you so much for listening.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: It means the world to us, and I really hope you guys enjoy our content.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Hi guys, welcome back to another episode of Skincare Anarchy.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: This is your host, Ecta, and I'm so excited about our guest once again today.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Um, Christine Bullock is here with us, and she is the founder of KO Um Body Care.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: And it's um, Christine, as you guys describe it, it's face grade body care.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: Um, right?
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: That's the and and I'm sure you guys know her for her um, you know, uh work in the fitness world.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: So without further ado, um, welcome, Christine.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much for coming on to our little show.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: It means the world to us.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Ecta.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Thanks for having me.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: I love the name of your show, Skincare Anarchy.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm definitely I've been in love with the beauty world since a very young age.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: I always, you know, had this dual life even with my parents.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: My mom was an aesthetician.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: She always ran her own businesses from home, doing makeup and that kind of stuff back in the day.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: My father uh was an athlete, and so was my mom.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: They both ran marathons.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: And I think that that just developed, obviously.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Well, I know now that that just developed into my career and to what my passions were.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: But I was always a ballerina.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: I did that three to five days a week since I was very, very young.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, I love ballet.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: The last time I saw the ballet was in the Royal Opera House.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: I saw Swan Lake in in London.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: And it just that's actually, I think, my favorite ballet.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Um I traveled to see Swan Lake specifically.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: I almost named my daughter Cosette, actually, uh, after the white swan.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: So but it was denied, but it was that or Remy, and she ended up with Remy.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: So um, but that's a whole nother story.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: So I thought that would be my career, and I really had no other idea of anything I wanted to do.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Um, and things just kind of turned, I guess, uh, you know, when I was in late high school with some injuries and um just some financial stuff too.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: We know how much ballet, you know, costs.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: And yeah, and I ended up going to college.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to be a starving artist.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: I was putting myself through school and doing all this, and I was like tired of starving basically.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: So I was like, I'm gonna go get a college degree.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: This art thing is not gonna pay, which it does, guys.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: So I was on that.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: But anyway, I went off to school really not knowing what I would wanted to do.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Um, but I decided to quit ballet for a while and I became a yoga instructor in my freshman year of college.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: And I started teaching yoga then, but at the same time, I um worked my way through college, like I noted, and I started working at one of the first Sephora's in the United States.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: And um, I'm gonna fast forward a bit because it is a really it's a long story.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: I've had a lot of jobs, but I worked for Sephora and taught yoga through college.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: And I worked there almost six years and I became a national trainer for them.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I saw, so I traveled all around the United States, trained new employees on skincare ingredients, you know, skincare, beauty, all that kind of stuff, fragrance even.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: And you end up learning by talking to hundreds of women, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds, what products are working and what products aren't, what they love about a certain product and which what they wished they had more of.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, it's like some had short-term results, some had long-term results.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: And little did I know, but I was learning a lot about beauty and skincare that evolved into KO at that point.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Um and so, and then also I had trained under, we basically like launched a lot of brands like Anastasia, um, philosophy, Dr.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Pericone, Dr.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Murad, Strivectin.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, the list goes on and on and on.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: This is when I really started to make a name, bare minerals, and we would meet the founders in person.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: So I learned a lot from them as well.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Um so then I went on and I managed a plastic surgeon's office.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: I like grew his spa, created his spa with medical devices that it's like a microcurrent devices that help to increase cellular energy.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: And as we know, like all of our health and the base goes down to our genes and to our cells.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: And so I learned a lot about cellular energy and health from the inside out that way.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: And um, I had been studying nutrition as well during this time for my own health.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: I just wasn't feeling great.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: And with this job, I ended up, I grew up in Pittsburgh.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: I forgot to mention that, and I could move anywhere.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: And I so I moved to Los Angeles for the sun.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: I had been here for maybe like five minutes one time, literally.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 30 minutes one time.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I'm just gonna pick up and move, you know.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: I knew no one out here, and packed an air mattress, came out, and I fell into another job here that was um I would go into surgery with all the plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, and we had medical devices for facial plastics, so I got to see them kind of peel faces off and put them back together to be blunt, but also that's what I saw.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: And um, then I started to manage uh Dr.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Orton, who's on the doctor's show.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: I was his patient coordinator for a while.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: So I saw clients come in and come come out, and you just get to hear again what women want, what women need, and men.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Um, but for Dr.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: Orton, a lot of the surgeries were for bodies.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: And so I started to learn more about that and become a bit more passionate about people were getting plastic surgery on their bodies um after gastric bypass or for little things as well.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: And I was like, no matter if we can hit you beforehand or if we can get you after, we have to take care of our body before and after, right?
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Or this is gonna happen again.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: And and in the nutrition stuff, it was like we can help you feel better naturally, maybe without plastic surgery as well.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Nothing against it, but I I saw this whole connection and uh it really um catapulted me to go back to my fitness full-time and get a lot more certifications.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: I did like a full year of classical Pilates, I did bar um exhale, I did, you know, fitness through AFPA, like general fitness, sports nutrition, um, wellness nutrition.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: I started to focus on um pre- and postnatal, and I studied under a doula and a yoga instructor.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: So I learned from doulas on how to prepare women for pregnancy and help them prepare afterwards because a lot of my clients were aging with me.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is over a 15-year period.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: So I've just kind of gone over Sephora was like 20 years ago for me that I was working there.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Um so you were one of the like the OGs in Sephora because I was literally literally, yes, we were in the one of the first, first Sephors, and it was in Pittsburgh.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: So New York, LA, and Pittsburgh.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Um, so you know, it's just been, and I guess I've always worked, you know, not coming from a lot of money, I will say.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: I it's like you're always working for the dollar.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: And I had amazing paying jobs.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: All the medical devices were, they paid very well.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: But I quit that to really pursue my passion and go back into fitness, which honestly it doesn't pay that well.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Um, but I just knew that that's what I needed to do.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: And I do think it's amazing.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: It's a lesson that I learned that I was like just hustling hard.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: I felt like I was banging my head against a wall, even though I was making good money in the sense of my happiness and my enjoyment of my job.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: There were things that I loved about it, but something was missing.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: And I was afraid to make that step back into fitness because I was in my 30s, number one.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: And um financially, number two.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: But when I did that, I feel like so many doors just opened, like the path really opened up for me.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: I fell into fitness modeling at that point and started become like I was on the packaging of P90X.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: I was on the ads for insanity.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: And at these times, these were, you know, the things that were huge.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Huge.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Women's Health magazine and oxygen magazine.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: And it was amazing how it kind of catapulted into all of that.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: And so, um, and I'll wrap this portion of it.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: You can ask me any questions, and I haven't even mentioned KO, but then I started to create um my fitness program.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: So coming from Pittsburgh and learning from the fitness programs and the fitness experts out here in LA, I wanted to create a program.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: This was probably six or seven years ago, that was short, effective, so but people could do in their home.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: So we created something.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: I created something with no equipment.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: It was like it's 10 or 11 workouts.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: It's a full 60-day nutritional program called Evolution 20.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, we're on app and we've been on DVD on Amazon for a really long time.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Um, but it was about becoming like your own personal best, it was evolving into your the inner athlete that we all have, no matter what level that is.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: And then we kind of followed up with like Super Shred, Body Reborn, a bunch of different DVDs.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: And I've continued to pursue that.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Like I work with Fiton app, who I absolutely love.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: I work with um Brook Burke Body App.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: I'm coming out with some new workouts with a special project right now, which you'll see after the new year.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Um and you know, it's great.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: I my passion also goes in and out of it.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: Because I'm not gonna lie, I was definitely the girl that had like the, you know what I mean?
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: Like the DVDs, like back in the 90s.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Like Yes, we have the DVDs, you know.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: I'm glad I have one.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Like that will always go like a notch in the belt for me.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: My kid will be like, What's a DVD, mom?
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: But it's like it's like the whole the whole field of DVD fitness experience, you know what I mean?
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: It was so cool.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: And I remember like back then it was like, Yeah, work it out at home.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: And it was like abbusters, anyways.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I had the Paula Abdul Dance VHS workout program, so it was fun.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, me too.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: I love the oh my gosh.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Anyways, I can talk to you like that for hours about those uh 90s stuff, but um yeah, continuous wow, your career is seriously like it's so multifaceted.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: Like you've got like, you know, these I I love how you're tying your interests together.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: That's so freaking cool to me.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: It is all wellness.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: I now look back and I realize I just love body.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: I even went to um Carnegie Mellon when I was in high school and I studied art there um early on during the summers, and I only studied portrait drawing.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: So now I look back and I studied bodies and I would draw bodies, and I just realized my entire passion is bodies.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: So I mean, that eventually evolved.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: I was working with clients for about 15 years.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Um, I was aging, I was next to 20 year olds in sports bras and shorts, and I just noticed I I never put SBF on my belly.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: I know we're supposed to.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: I put it on my face, and but I wanted a tan belly.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: And um, so my skin started to age on my stomach a lot faster.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: And no matter what percentage body fat I was, it was just different and different than the 20-year-old next to me.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: So, and the you know, my clients too are they're having babies, they're complaining about the changes that are happening to their skin.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: And there was nothing on the market at this point.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: It was 2014 or 2013, and I'm on the search.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: There was like maybe like, you know, a right-aid CVS brand, and then there was like a super expensive brand that's a face brand that has like one body product in it that's like$300 too.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, body products are so expensive, dude.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Like they're like literally like like I remember like before I like I was exploring your um your brand, I was like, you know, like I can never find, or if they're if I find something, it's like not working, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: Like it's like there's no real, like good, I don't know, in my opinion, there's no good like body care line right now.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: You know, yeah, it's your biggest organ.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: So a lot, especially back in the day, everything had chemicals in it, and I didn't want to put that all over my body, even the expensive ones.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I ended up, I mean, my mom was still working in the skincare industry, you know.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: I had been working in the skincare industry for a long time.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: I had a lot of extras and freebies and all that kind of stuff I would get all the time.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I was using face care all over my body.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: And it was a trick, like Jay Lowe's come out, Chrissy Teegan, and that was a trick of the trade before where they only use face care on their body, and that's where face grade body care came from.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: We created or I created a body care brand that was the same efficacy, same quality, same high performance that you get in in face care brands and face care skincare, but for the entire body.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: And so we really in the skincare industry.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, thank genuinely thank you for even thinking about that because I've literally been sitting around for years now.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: I'm like, where's the body care?
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Like did we just miss that entire area?
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Like the skin everywhere, and I don't know why it's I know that there, you know, I'm not gonna, I'm not shitting on any brands or anything.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: I'm not, I'm just saying that like the you know, what you're saying is really what I wanted to see, you know, from the get-go in body care, because you're right, it has to be face grade body care.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: It has to be if you, you know, you put the latest technologies on your face, but the rest of your body has nothing on it, you're gonna have a beautiful face with an old freaking body.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Well, and if you think about it back at the cellular level too, when you're in your deepest state of repair, or even during the day when you're just trying to protect the skin, cellular energy, a lot of that energy is going to that super dehydrated skin that is being attacked by free radicals and pollutants and toxins.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: So the energy is not there for your face as much.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: It's not being utilized.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: So it's almost wasting products on your skin if you're not at least providing hydration to the skin all over your body, let alone all of these other things.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: I always say it's like going into battle stark naked with just a mask on.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Like we, you know, the environment has changed nowadays.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: We have a lot more toxins in the air.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: We need to go out with an extra layer of protection and we need to go to bed with that extra layer of hydration and repair as well.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: I completely agree.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: And I think that, you know, um, it's interesting that you're bringing up hydration because that's something that I think people don't understand varies um all over your body in terms of the skin, right?
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: So it's like the amount of hydration you have in your face is not going to be the same that you're experiencing like in your shoulders, your arms, your legs.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: It's going to vary because obviously we're exposing different areas of our body to different stressors in the environment.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: So, you know, um that's something that has to be customized.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: It cannot be something that, you know, we just say everything is, you know, what are you?
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: We can't just slap anything on.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: It needs to have the same sophistication, the same technology, the same research behind it as we do for our skincare in the face.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I agree.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: And I mean, a little uh kind of secret, I think, of the skincare industry formerly is that you think about it, they they created a one-ounce serum um or one ounce eye cream, and they're charging like you know,$120 for a basic one, right?
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: And so if you look at big companies and then you see, well, now I have to make an eight-ounce and I have to charge this much, you know.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: I think in the past they were it was like skimping on the quality of ingredients, skimping on the quantity of ingredients, and just not wanting to get into body care.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: So that's why we couldn't find anything.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: But it's it's really, you know, simple to make an effective product.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: You just put in really quality ingredients at the amounts needed to work.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: And um, I I think you know, I want to ask you um where your like, okay, so when it comes to like body care and fitness, right?
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: Like I know that obviously eating healthy and you know, just providing your body the nutrients from the inside is important, but when you were formulating your line, did you consider um some of the nutrients we get from like superfoods?
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: Like, for example, like avocado and all these amazing things for our body.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Did you get a lot of inspiration from that?
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: Or did you absolutely yes?
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: I I I love nutrition and KO Body Care now.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: We are growing and expanding, and we've launched our first two supplements, and we are launching into two more.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: We have two more supplements launching January 15th, and then we have like at least eight more this year, I think, rolling out, but I have like 30 listed that I'm ready to go with.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Um I formulate everything.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: I work with two labs.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: I work with a private lab um here in California for my our body care and our skincare.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: And then I work with a lab in Oklahoma for our supplements, both amazing, uh, just amazing labs and full of great scientists and a great team.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: So they assist me.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: I say, here's my basic info, here's my you know, ingredients, can we do this?
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: And they assist in that kind of stuff.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: But even for the skincare, it is.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: It's what kind of supplements do I know that our body, I've learned over the years from all the experts that like everybody should have basically for good health.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Or what is a new ingredient that I've loved so much?
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: And can we turn this and utilize this in skincare somehow?
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Like, for instance, I think the willow bark that's in our body wash, I was utilizing it in some other way.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: I can't remember at this point because it's been a few years.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: And I was like, can we put this in our body wash just for a really night, nice natural light exfoliation that you get while you're wash?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: So absolutely.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: No, I love that.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: And I think that, you know, it's interesting because, you know, I know a lot of brands pick like random ingredients, if you know what I mean.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Like they'll be like, well, this is the acid trend of, you know, the grass outside and I don't know, in the in Scotland or something.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: I don't know, like some BS.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: And it's like, listen, like, you know, this it's like over, it's like overkill.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: But you know, what you're describing is it I love that you're still going to this source of um naturally occurring, you know, uh things that are in nature, and you know, you're you're really utilizing it.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: So when you mentioned the things that um everything like our body needs, right?
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: So what are some of those things, those ingredients that you um kind of made a short list of?
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, for sure, hydration and and moisture.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: And so obviously that's just water and you know, hyaluronic acid is holds 10 times its weight in water.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: We have conjac root in a lot of our new products, and that holds 17 times its weight in water.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: So it's like hyaluronic on steroids.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Um, and then we you also want lipid moisture as well, and so that is that helps to basically protect the exterior of your cells, that lipid barrier everywhere.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: So we just have we always call KO's oil blend, but we have so many different oils in each of our products as we've expanded the line.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Some of the basics in the first six that we launched are Kikue, avocado, macadamia, uh, avocado, uh, said avocado coconuts, and asay.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: And but now we've expanded and we have so many other oils to provide that variety.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: And based on what the product is, what what we're gearing towards, what the goal is of the product.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Um but I also think obviously, like antioxidants, I love it.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: My three-year-old, we were talking about if we were a food, what would we be?
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: And everybody was naming something, you know, dad was like a steak, you know, and we were like, what's mommy?
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: She's like, she's an antioxidant.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: I was like, yes, girl.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: So um, yeah, we absolutely need our our antioxidants and our anti-inflammatories, whether we're taking them internally or eating them.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Inflammation is the root cause of disease and aging.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad you're saying that.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad you're saying that because honestly, I'm not gonna lie to you, I have Hashimoto's.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: And um a thing with Hashimoto's is that we have to avoid all gluten, dairy, um, even like, you know, poultry, like eggs and stuff.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: Like we have to stay away from that because there is this real phenomena of inflammation in areas of the body that we cannot fully understand and track.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: And all of that is going to lead to like you know external changes like I'll notice like if I eat something um you know that's I don't know like rich in gluten my I puff up and my face facial skin puffs up and I can I notice it right so it's like this these allergens um are you know we're becoming more and more sensitive to them overall I think as a society especially now that everyone's locked in the house with COVID you know our immune responses we have to consider being gentle with what we give to our body whether it's topically or you know like you said like ingestibles or anything you have to be very gentle with it.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: And and even if people aren't interested in their complete health I I you know I think it's interesting because it is still all about your skin if that's you know what you're interested in whether it's eczema, psoriasis, we hear so much more of skin conditions, rosacea all of that inflammation leads to that.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: And I understand too because I went through that as well being in fitness and being active I would have workout shoot days which were you know 12 hour days of doing fitness like my body broke down because I was building so much inflammation and not repairing it fast enough.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: So I too went through that where I really had to go through like a very very anti-inflammatory diet extreme.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: And now I live mainly in anti-inflammatory diet with you know the the cheats or whatever I don't even like to call them cheats just things that are are inflammatory and then I just know that I have to repair that and that's what KO's supplement brand line is really all about it it's about your complete wellness but it's also it's like all of these things like we have a powder greens you know that's launching and it's like well if you suffer from acne which again I've also been through that too hormonal acne like oh yeah that's a that's greens help me automatically if I start taking my greens it goes away right away even with hormonal acne it's good eat eating how you know eating habits are one of the biggest contributors to clear skin I mean I don't know why people are not you know I mean I think people are hopping on that bandwagon but like it needs to be more so yeah like you have to ingest a certain amount of greens and you have to ingest certain amount of nutrients that are just like you said rich in antioxidants, you know, vitamins, uh minerals that you need like I don't that's good skin begins from within right like I mean cliche hashtag I know like it's true.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: And so I love that you have this ingestibles line.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: And you know and so and I you know what I really love is that you've got a fitness background with an ingestible line because it's not just about um someone coming out with one it's about knowing the body like you said it's about really understanding the body and that can be done on many different levels.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: You know you I always say like you don't have to be an MD to be an MD.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: Because in some ways we all have our own journeys of how we understand the human body and just how beautiful it is right and like how it works.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: And I think you know gaining perspective from um you know experts such as yourself and you know just just gaining like insight is not only good for us but it's good for the medical community too.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: I mean we we have to learn and grow together right yeah I always say you know obviously I don't have a medical background but I have just the experience also of just trying so many products and being very in tune with my body so understanding what's working why it's working and also working with so many Eastern and Western medicines through my own health conditions.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: I had a lot I had low thyroid a PCOS I had like 10 years of infertility that were caused by the hormones that were blown out from cortisol levels being high and inflammation in my body that I had to repair.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: So it was like my own little test product and then my clients became that for me as well because I would hear similar things.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: So I would say look this worked for me and then they'd be like oh my God it worked for me.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: That was so easy you know so you started to learn what's working and so I always say it's a little common sense.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: Right easy to say it but no you're the common sense it's not common but I feel like today to bring that up I'm not kidding yeah because no no I love that because it's like you know this common sense idea yeah I'm totally with you on that it is common sense and I I I think it's becoming overcomplicated.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Like I agree health is becoming overcomplicated.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: There's too much I mean you know obviously market saturation is a huge part of that I'm not gonna lie it's you know there's too many products people don't understand what's good and what's not and that's honestly one of my biggest um drives behind this podcast is like highlighting brands such as yourself that have the you know what I mean you have the expertise behind it.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: It's not just somebody else coming out with a line and it's like oh whatever you know it's like you've done the research you've seen it firsthand you've you know and so that matters and that goes a really long way.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: And so yeah that I just wanted to throw that in there because I think you're right common sense we need to propagate propagate the need for common sense at this point.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: I love that yeah and that's the same thing I mean you can see like even in my fitness programs they've always been let's get this simple for you so that you can include 20 minutes into your day.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: I know you can do 20 minutes so you can't say no to me.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: By the time you drive to the gym you could be done with this workout right and right now we like it's amazing how everyone's at home now doing this kind of stuff.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: But it's the same thing with like whether it's body care whether it's your supplements whether it's just like what do I eat every day it's I again it's very simple we don't have to complicate it um too much.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: You know we don't need those like trendy weird ingredients but we do need good basic antiflammatory fillers like small fillers yes totally yeah so um Christine I want to ask you um actually for some advice for everyone listening out there because um I want them to hear it straight from someone with your background um is there what kind of advice would you give to you know young women out there in terms of not only you know fitness and health but um just kind of you know coming into themselves and being like just proud of their body and being you know what I'm you know what I'm trying to say like just being proud of who they are and taking pride in what they do for themselves and because I think skincare is more than just skincare, right?
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: It's self-care.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: So um you know do you have any advice?
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: I'm so passionate about this because we are a body brand and especially with young women I mean I was a ballerina and you know obviously you have to be very tiny and there's a lot of pressure on what you put into your body and then I was a fitness model and I actually found even more where I'm a very confident person and I wasn't based on what my body was but every time I was going in somebody's jug judging me on how many abs I have or it's the size of my thighs or something like that.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: And although it didn't hit me personally it was still like I'd be turned down for a job.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: So I understand I don't want anybody to feel that way.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: And it was funny because through my fertility I went through I went through five years of being injected by hormones and it really changed my body.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: I had cellulite on every part of my body I feel like on my chin, on my arms on my face like I had it everywhere.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: I gained a lot of weight I couldn't take it off it blew my hormones out it was very hard to get I just couldn't get the weight off afterwards.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: I have weird little patches of things everywhere and so I understand of like this was not what I was used to but I became confident in my body and then through pregnancy I finally did get pregnant once I healed myself and I was even more so proud and especially like right after you deliver a baby your body is really different.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah and I loved it I loved every second of it I was just so passionate about it because I was healthy and that's what mattered to me that I loved my body because I had healed myself I knew how strong it was I knew how beautiful I was in my skin internally for all the hard work I had put into my life to get to that point.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: And on I'm almost 40 and I feel younger than I did when I was 16 right now.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: I mean I just have such an innate energy with two kids and confidence that whatever it doesn't matter what I look like it is about just taking care of myself so that I'm the optimal person for everyone around me.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: And for myself.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: And so that's really what like KO body care is about KO means knockout like TKO uh total knockout Justin Timberlake and it's a planned word like we're all knockouts and it is for everybody we always say because the skin is your biggest organ it's just important to take care of it.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Yes we can say maybe I want to treat this little bit of cellulite that's fine I think that's great but it's not something that's um a detriment to our day because we're focusing on it right same thing with the supplements we're just now infusing the whole brand with something that's going to upgrade your health and your wellness even more yeah so I would say to girls I it's hard to say it's just like I've been there it's hard to say to somebody don't worry about it but what I would say is if you're not there yet I've been there I get it start to focus on your internal health and the things that you need in your diet and in your supplements and I promise you even if mentally you're not there yet the inside of the body fuels your brain as well and fuels your thoughts.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: When you are low sugar and hypothyroid and all this and not getting the nutrients that you need it makes us in a bad mood bad moods make us focus on bad things and maybe that happens to be our body sometimes so the more that we start to balance and create homeostasis within ourselves I promise you the outlook changes as well.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: Absolutely wow very well said seriously that's so well said I mean I I completely agree with you and I that's excellent advice.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: So everyone listening out there seriously like that's very very solid advice especially right now when you know everyone's so unsure of their own body image right it's like it's hard it's a hard process for us to all go through but um thank you so much Christine seriously this has been such a great conversation and um anybody out there who's listening please please please go check out Christine's um body care line it's KO body care you can find them on Instagram at KO BodyCare check it out um you know really do a deep dive and you know look into good brands you know that's my that's like my motto is like go look into good brands and that's what I'm hoping to do with skincare anarchy is introduce you know people to brands like yours.
