Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. I'm John North, and as we begin this
- 0:09Speaker 1: new work week, we want to start it by listening
- 0:13Speaker 1: to God. What better way to start your day than
- 0:16Speaker 1: taking some time with God.
- 0:19Speaker 1: There's nothing more important in your life than your regular
- 0:23Speaker 1: time with God.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Don't get legalistic about it. Don't condemn someone if they
- 0:29Speaker 1: didn't have a quiet time, as we call it, today.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Or don't condemn yourself, but rather make it your practise
- 0:38Speaker 1: to take time with God. What makes it so effective
- 0:43Speaker 1: in your life is not the fact that you tick
- 0:46Speaker 1: the box that yes, you had some time in God's
- 0:49Speaker 1: word today, no.
- 0:51Speaker 1: What makes it effective in your life is if you
- 0:54Speaker 1: treat it relationally. This is your special time with your
- 0:58Speaker 1: most important friend, who is also the most important person
- 1:03Speaker 1: in this entire universe. God wants you to know Him.
- 1:07Speaker 1: He wants to reveal Himself to you. He knows you intimately,
- 1:12Speaker 1: and He wants to walk with you through life. Spend
- 1:15Speaker 1: time with Him. We're talking this week about God's grace
- 1:20Speaker 1: in our lives.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Listen to what Paul says when he writes to the
- 1:25Speaker 1: Philippians in chapter 3 of his letter to them in
- 1:28Speaker 1: the Bible. Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord.
- 1:35Speaker 1: To write the same things again is no trouble to me,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and it is a safeguard for you.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Beware of the dogs. Beware of the evil workers. Beware
- 1:45Speaker 1: of the false circumcision, for we are the true circumcision,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and by circumcision he means the people of God. We
- 1:54Speaker 1: are the true people of God who worship in the
- 1:57Speaker 1: Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put
- 2:02Speaker 1: no confidence in the flesh, that is in our own abilities.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Although I myself might have confidence in the flesh, if
- 2:11Speaker 1: anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I far more circumcised the 8th day of the nation
- 2:18Speaker 1: of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews,
- 2:23Speaker 1: as to the law of Pharisee, one of the most
- 2:27Speaker 1: committed religious leaders of the day, as to zeal, a
- 2:32Speaker 1: persecutor of the church.
- 2:34Speaker 1: As to the righteousness which is in the law found blameless.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Paul had a lot to be proud of spiritually, but
- 2:43Speaker 1: listen to what he says. But whatever things were gain
- 2:48Speaker 1: to me, those things I have counted as loss for
- 2:52Speaker 1: the sake of Christ.
- 2:54Speaker 1: More than that, I count all things to be loss
- 2:59Speaker 1: in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus,
- 3:04Speaker 1: my Lord.
- 3:05Speaker 1: For whom I have suffered the loss of all things
- 3:08Speaker 1: and count them but rubbish in order that I may
- 3:11Speaker 1: gain Christ and may be found in Him, not having
- 3:15Speaker 1: a righteousness of my own derived from the law.
- 3:19Speaker 1: But that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness
- 3:22Speaker 1: which comes from God on the basis of faith, that
- 3:27Speaker 1: I may know Him and the power of His resurrection,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and he goes on.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Do you know something
- 3:37Speaker 1: Every person in the world has offended God. Some people
- 3:42Speaker 1: are much nicer people than others, much better people than others,
- 3:46Speaker 1: but even they have secret sins, ways they've offended God
- 3:50Speaker 1: and broken His laws. Every one of us faces God's
- 3:54Speaker 1: eternal judgement and God's anger.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And we cannot be righteous enough for God.
- 4:03Speaker 1: But Paul says we can be found in Christ not
- 4:06Speaker 1: having a righteousness of our own derived from the law
- 4:10Speaker 1: by trying to be good enough, that is, by keeping
- 4:13Speaker 1: God's laws. But the righteousness which is through faith in Christ,
- 4:18Speaker 1: the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
- 4:22Speaker 1: Jesus Christ died, and in that was done a spiritual exchange.
- 4:29Speaker 1: He took your sinfulness.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And took God's judgement on Himself so that you could
- 4:35Speaker 1: receive His righteousness and become a child of God.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You simply need to turn to God and say thank
- 4:42Speaker 1: you for what you have done for me.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I receive the forgiveness offered to me because of what
- 4:49Speaker 1: Christ has done. Please enter into my life and change it.
- 4:55Speaker 1: God's response to that will always be yes.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Because God is full of grace.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I'm John North.
