- 0:52Speaker 4: y'all we were having fun all day. We have We've
- 0:54Speaker 4: had We've had some amazing sessions and you know it's dope.
- 0:57Speaker 4: What is dope? It's just been me and you. It
- 1:00Speaker 4: has the there have been me and you. And the
- 1:02Speaker 4: reason why you can't see Desiltray right now is because
- 1:05Speaker 4: we did not position the camera the way. But you
- 1:08Speaker 4: can hear her beautiful voice and her song there's a
- 1:11Speaker 4: A does already? Does you know I get cussed out
- 1:17Speaker 4: when I don't sing that song? Really real bad, like
- 1:19Speaker 4: the people be like, where is the song going on?
- 1:22Speaker 4: You know, Oh my, we took a lot of things
- 1:25Speaker 4: you said, but that song placement, it had to stay.
- 1:29Speaker 4: It had to stay because the people like it. And
- 1:31Speaker 4: we've been getting to the point fairly quickly. You guys,
- 1:34Speaker 4: we are in for a treat today. There are multiple
- 1:38Speaker 4: there are multiple ways this conversation can go lest so
- 1:41Speaker 4: fair warning one and number one is that this conversation
- 1:47Speaker 4: might get slippery because the oil has come into the room.
- 1:52Speaker 4: That's the way. I'm super excited about our guests today
- 1:56Speaker 4: me to like, do's what you say when you first saw, Oh,
- 2:00Speaker 4: she's beautiful. You know what's interesting? People be out here
- 2:04Speaker 4: with beautiful, beautiful faces and nasty spirits, but not her,
- 2:09Speaker 4: not her. I think she's too mature for that also.
- 2:12Speaker 4: But I think that the oil and the maturity and
- 2:16Speaker 4: the awareness and the intellect that we're gonna get today
- 2:21Speaker 4: is it's so it's so needed. What's her name? Alish?
- 2:26Speaker 4: She was posted something the other day and she was
- 2:28Speaker 4: talking about how she wants older people to tell their
- 2:31Speaker 4: story right like more mature people, the mature saints, as
- 2:34Speaker 4: she would call it, to tell their story because us
- 2:38Speaker 4: young folks need it right. We need to know what
- 2:42Speaker 4: and what not to do. Please please prepare me on
- 2:45Speaker 4: the mistakes that you'd have made so I don't make them.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I'm not even trying to do that, you know what
- 2:49Speaker 4: I'm saying. So I'm really super excited to be able
- 2:52Speaker 4: to have a conversation with the brilliant, the wonderful, the
- 2:57Speaker 4: expert in the career field. When you try and when
- 3:00Speaker 4: you try to make decisions as a leader and building
- 3:03Speaker 4: your residence stuff. This is this lady is bad. Okay,
- 3:05Speaker 4: she knows what she she knows what she's doing outside. Okay,
- 3:08Speaker 4: She's gonna get you together. And when she gets on
- 3:11Speaker 4: the screen, you're gonna know why. I want to introduce
- 3:14Speaker 4: to some and present to others my play mama, Miss.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Janie cole Man, Hey, Miss Jennis.
- 3:27Speaker 4: How are you?
- 3:29Speaker 2: I am amazing? How are you doing today?
- 3:32Speaker 4: Good? Good? Thank you so much for being willing to
- 3:36Speaker 4: come on a podcast.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Yes, it's my pleasure, it's my honor to be here
- 3:41Speaker 6: with you.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Are you excited, how you nervous? How you feeling?
- 3:46Speaker 6: I'm really excited because you know, as dispensation, dispensations change
- 3:54Speaker 6: that I mean for certain voices become more prevalent. Believe
- 3:59Speaker 6: that the dispensation for your voices here, and I believe
- 4:04Speaker 6: that what we're gonna share with each other and with
- 4:06Speaker 6: your audience is timely for this season. So it is
- 4:11Speaker 6: this time for us together.
- 4:13Speaker 4: It is time for us together. So I one of
- 4:17Speaker 4: the first questions I wanted to ask you, Miss Jannis,
- 4:20Speaker 4: because how that'll be just give you a quick backstory
- 4:23Speaker 4: how I met Jane's. For one fun fact, Nella Coleman
- 4:27Speaker 4: is the it is the daughter of Janice, my one
- 4:32Speaker 4: of my good friends that y'all see and hear about
- 4:34Speaker 4: all the time. This is this is her mother. Okay,
- 4:37Speaker 4: So I met both of them in the morning meetup
- 4:40Speaker 4: shout out to David Shan's and we just she just
- 4:44Speaker 4: you know how folks just gravitate to youse. You just like,
- 4:46Speaker 4: oh my gosh, they well put together. Just you just
- 4:50Speaker 4: are amazed at their light. That's what Miss Janis is
- 4:52Speaker 4: for me. And so I'm really super excited about this conversation.
- 4:56Speaker 4: But the first question I was gonna ask you is
- 4:58Speaker 4: something that you do on the morning meet up? What
- 5:00Speaker 4: is the word for the day? And you just said dispensation.
- 5:03Speaker 4: So you got to explain to the people that don't.
- 5:06Speaker 4: They're not its eloquent as you are. What does dispensation.
- 5:13Speaker 6: Dispensation is a time frame, that is for a designated thing,
- 5:22Speaker 6: a time frame for a designated thing. So for those
- 5:27Speaker 6: of us, for those in your audience who understand Bible,
- 5:31Speaker 6: you know that there was a dispensation for the profits,
- 5:36Speaker 6: the sensation for Christ, right, the law, the profit and
- 5:44Speaker 6: Christ and now the Holy Spirit. And each dispensation has
- 5:51Speaker 6: characteristics and there are certain things that are going to
- 5:54Speaker 6: happen within those dispensations. And so for each of us
- 5:58Speaker 6: who are living life, you know, you have your younger years,
- 6:02Speaker 6: your the middle the middle ground, right, and as you
- 6:06Speaker 6: call them the seasoned saints, Yeah, they're the dispensation. And
- 6:11Speaker 6: certain things happen in those dispensations. And if we work
- 6:14Speaker 6: alongside of them, then we will get the benefit of them.
- 6:18Speaker 6: If we don't work along with them, then we will
- 6:20Speaker 6: be punished by them.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Ooh, that's so good. So where do you see what
- 6:26Speaker 4: do you see a lot of people fall in that
- 6:28Speaker 4: to the failure of their dispensation.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Well, there's a gentleman in the area where I live,
- 6:36Speaker 6: and he's he's the pastor of Enon Tabernacle Church, and
- 6:39Speaker 6: he said this, if you learn nothing in your teens,
- 6:44Speaker 6: then you will know nothing in your twenties. You will
- 6:47Speaker 6: do nothing in your thirties, and you will have nothing
- 6:51Speaker 6: in your forties. And then when I heard that, I
- 6:54Speaker 6: added to that, and you will be nothing in your fifties.
- 6:59Speaker 6: And so each of so this pensation, you can see
- 7:03Speaker 6: that if I'm in the learning, the real learning stage
- 7:07Speaker 6: from one from agees zero to about twenty two, the
- 7:10Speaker 6: real learning of how to learn, because we really know
- 7:14Speaker 6: nothing at twenty two, but that time to learn how
- 7:19Speaker 6: to learn.
- 7:20Speaker 2: If I don't do that, then when.
- 7:22Speaker 6: I move into the twenties when I should be able
- 7:26Speaker 6: to do, when I should know and be able to do,
- 7:29Speaker 6: I won't be able to do because I don't know.
- 7:33Speaker 4: And so go ahead, no, no, go ahead, keep keep cooking.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:40Speaker 6: So I think that because in that the time when
- 7:44Speaker 6: we should be learning, we're really not learning the things
- 7:48Speaker 6: we need to know, especially in the newer, the more
- 7:53Speaker 6: recent contemporary generations. And I'm not talking necessarily about Z
- 7:59Speaker 6: or A, but just the time that we're in theeration
- 8:03Speaker 6: that we're in, right, we're not learning the things we
- 8:07Speaker 6: need to know that are requisite to set us up
- 8:12Speaker 6: to really be able to do what we need to
- 8:16Speaker 6: do to start to build a life.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So we don't really we.
- 8:21Speaker 6: Don't really start building until we're now in our forties
- 8:26Speaker 6: and fifties because we really didn't learn the foundation of
- 8:31Speaker 6: what we should have learned in order to put us
- 8:34Speaker 6: put set us up for the successes that we should
- 8:37Speaker 6: be having earlier.
- 8:39Speaker 2: In our life.
- 8:40Speaker 4: So I'm so glad that you're there, because you're in
- 8:42Speaker 4: the You are in the proper veime is Jane's when
- 8:45Speaker 4: I tell you know God? You know God for real.
- 8:47Speaker 4: So the the idea of that thinking about the audience
- 8:52Speaker 4: that we serve, right, that are that are attracted to,
- 8:55Speaker 4: just as the podcast that's that this is a woman
- 8:59Speaker 4: in age range between twenty five and forty five, right,
- 9:03Speaker 4: And like you just said, those different dispensations require different
- 9:07Speaker 4: learning aspects. And so if I'm a twenty five thirty
- 9:10Speaker 4: year old woman, what it is so much to learn?
- 9:14Speaker 4: Like this world is so full of knowledge and I'm
- 9:17Speaker 4: already I don't Hallelujah, thank you Jesus. I don't know
- 9:20Speaker 4: my purpose, I don't know who I am. I'm confused
- 9:22Speaker 4: about what and you're telling me to build off something
- 9:25Speaker 4: I learned. I don't even understand this, don't I don't
- 9:28Speaker 4: understand this. So can you speak to that version of
- 9:31Speaker 4: that what we call the avatar, the person that's saying, Okay,
- 9:36Speaker 4: you're telling me to be in a proper dismensation, be
- 9:38Speaker 4: in a proper time, learn what I need to learn
- 9:41Speaker 4: so I won't be a deadbeat in my fifties. How
- 9:43Speaker 4: where do I start? I don't even understand.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Oh Lord Jesus, that's too funny. So I'll share with
- 9:52Speaker 2: you this. When I was, when I was in my.
- 9:58Speaker 6: Latter teams, my nineteen and into my twenties, I was
- 10:03Speaker 6: in college and I should have been in school schooling,
- 10:07Speaker 6: but I was in school playing. And so when I moved.
- 10:12Speaker 6: When I got to my early twenties, by that time,
- 10:15Speaker 6: I had had my first son. I married, but I
- 10:19Speaker 6: had my first son, and I went to a very
- 10:23Speaker 6: good public school in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia High
- 10:27Speaker 6: School for Girls, absolutely the best high school in the world,
- 10:32Speaker 6: toe to toe and with any school ever. And so
- 10:37Speaker 6: I knew how to learn, and I knew a little
- 10:41Speaker 6: something something. Yet when I got to school, I didn't
- 10:47Speaker 6: have the structure to understand how to buckle down without
- 10:52Speaker 6: having the guidance of teachers and parents around me. So
- 10:58Speaker 6: I was a professional at playing around. I went to
- 11:02Speaker 6: class when I felt like it, but I was not
- 11:04Speaker 6: going to miss the party, okay, right, And you know,
- 11:08Speaker 6: I felt like the party didn't start until I got there,
- 11:11Speaker 6: and then the party was over when I left, So
- 11:13Speaker 6: just take your stuff and go home.
- 11:16Speaker 2: But because it's over.
- 11:20Speaker 6: But then when I left school with one son in
- 11:25Speaker 6: hand and I became the single parent, I had a good,
- 11:30Speaker 6: a stable family structure around me. I ended up having
- 11:34Speaker 6: to work a full time job take care of my son,
- 11:37Speaker 6: and then ultimately a little while later working for a
- 11:41Speaker 6: full time job going to school at night taking care
- 11:43Speaker 6: of my son. I then had to pay in a
- 11:49Speaker 6: different season what I could have gotten nearly for free
- 11:53Speaker 6: in the previous one. And so when we are in
- 12:00Speaker 6: the wrong season, it usually costs more.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Right when you get strawberries out of season, my oh my,
- 12:09Speaker 2: they cost more.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Because of all of what has to go into that
- 12:16Speaker 6: season to make something out of season edible.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Jesus wow.
- 12:25Speaker 6: So so when we're out of season, which I was,
- 12:31Speaker 6: when we're out of season, we have to do the
- 12:34Speaker 6: things we have to do. We have to pay more. See,
- 12:36Speaker 6: when we pay more, we pay more attention. So I
- 12:42Speaker 6: paid more by virtue of time and energy to catch
- 12:47Speaker 6: up with myself.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Miss so good. Oh my gosh, the idea of okay,
- 12:59Speaker 4: you say you said so much in that in that
- 13:03Speaker 4: one se segment that I want to unpack. First of all,
- 13:08Speaker 4: the level of transparency that is needed. That like I'm
- 13:12Speaker 4: saying from from people that have walked through this life, right,
- 13:19Speaker 4: we see people of your statue, right, we see the
- 13:23Speaker 4: put together version of you, but knowing what we believe
- 13:28Speaker 4: here is that we overcome by the blood of the
- 13:30Speaker 4: lamb and the word of the testimony. Right, And so
- 13:35Speaker 4: being in in in the the atmosphere that you are
- 13:38Speaker 4: being this this expert in career development, helping people get
- 13:43Speaker 4: laying these opportunities, talking to these c C suite executives
- 13:48Speaker 4: and helping them with their leadership, Like you had to
- 13:51Speaker 4: go through that in order to be impactful for where
- 13:55Speaker 4: you for where you are now. But what you said
- 13:57Speaker 4: about paying more to be able to catch up with yourself,
- 14:04Speaker 4: it is one of the most powerful things I've heard.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Because I don't know if you notice or not, but
- 14:09Speaker 4: the season that we're in Miss Janice with just as is.
- 14:12Speaker 4: The Lord has given us a demand for build or
- 14:15Speaker 4: build right, And so we have a mixture of women,
- 14:19Speaker 4: women that are singing with no kids, when they are
- 14:21Speaker 4: single with kids, women that are married with kids, memen
- 14:24Speaker 4: that are doing extremely well, women that are in the
- 14:28Speaker 4: foundational stages of their success. Like, we have a stretch
- 14:31Speaker 4: of women. But the one thing that we can understand
- 14:33Speaker 4: is paying more for something when we could have had
- 14:36Speaker 4: it at a low cost right and not having to
- 14:40Speaker 4: think about that. So what motivated you to not just
- 14:44Speaker 4: remain stagnant with like, Okay, I made this decision, I
- 14:49Speaker 4: had this child, but I'm going back to school. What
- 14:52Speaker 4: was what was the time frame between that and what
- 14:54Speaker 4: was your motivation to go back to school? Because you
- 14:57Speaker 4: do have your degree, yes I do, So what was
- 15:02Speaker 4: your motivation and that that time span? What did that
- 15:05Speaker 4: look like?
- 15:07Speaker 6: It's interesting because, as I mentioned earlier, I went to
- 15:10Speaker 6: a very good high school. It was an all girls school,
- 15:12Speaker 6: Philadelpia High School for girls that you probably can tell, right,
- 15:16Speaker 6: and it's a high more a higher caliber of girl,
- 15:25Speaker 6: very intellectual.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Most of most of the young women that.
- 15:29Speaker 6: I graduated with with from high school are attorneys and doctors,
- 15:35Speaker 6: and maybe two percent of our class graduated and went
- 15:39Speaker 6: to the military, but everybody else went to college. And
- 15:43Speaker 6: so we had we had what we call the intangible
- 15:46Speaker 6: spirit of the Philadelpha High School for Girls, which means
- 15:48Speaker 6: that basically, we know that anything we put our hand
- 15:51Speaker 6: to do.
- 15:52Speaker 2: We can do it.
- 15:55Speaker 6: And then on top of that foundation, for the first
- 15:59Speaker 6: four you know, the four years I got saved right.
- 16:04Speaker 2: After I had my son, hmm. So that those two elements.
- 16:14Speaker 6: Challenged who I was to become who I have been
- 16:18Speaker 6: intended to be.
- 16:20Speaker 4: So when you say you got when you got saved,
- 16:24Speaker 4: because man, you you're you're you're taking us down a
- 16:27Speaker 4: story that's very important, Miss Jennings. When you say you got,
- 16:31Speaker 4: say it took the the tradition and the passion from
- 16:35Speaker 4: your high school and now you have this, this son
- 16:39Speaker 4: that you have been made responsible for, that brought you
- 16:43Speaker 4: into the sanctification of God. What was the what is that?
- 16:46Speaker 4: Can you please describe that moment? Because some people we
- 16:50Speaker 4: think about the word getting saved, and I think you
- 16:53Speaker 4: can describe that too, Like what is being say that's
- 16:55Speaker 4: when I got saved? What does that even mean? Like
- 16:57Speaker 4: we can't. We can't assume with people know that, But
- 17:01Speaker 4: also like where were you in that moment? Like where
- 17:05Speaker 4: were you mentally? Where were you financially? Like what does
- 17:08Speaker 4: that unsaved version to save version of Janus look like?
- 17:14Speaker 6: So I lived brought, I was born and raised in
- 17:18Speaker 6: inner city Philadelphia, in North Philly which is now called
- 17:22Speaker 6: the bad Lands. You know, so every other house is
- 17:25Speaker 6: not there.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Oh well, we were.
- 17:30Speaker 6: The working poor, but we were people who were honorable.
- 17:34Speaker 6: We were people who took care of those things that
- 17:37Speaker 6: we had, but we were working poor.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 6: And so when I went to school the first time,
- 17:45Speaker 6: when I went to school the first time, and I
- 17:47Speaker 6: was a party animal and came home with my son,
- 17:50Speaker 6: I came home with I went to school with a
- 17:53Speaker 6: suitcase and a trunk, and I came home in a
- 17:56Speaker 6: U hall.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I don't know how that happened.
- 18:06Speaker 6: And when I came home, I was just coming from
- 18:10Speaker 6: a internship, an internship with Westinghouse, and I was in
- 18:15Speaker 6: computer science. So I had a computer science internship in
- 18:20Speaker 6: Westinghouse near Pittsburgh, and I was getting paid as an
- 18:24Speaker 6: eighteen year old, nineteen year old intern four or five
- 18:28Speaker 6: hundred dollars a week in the eighties, which is unheard of. Yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 6: and I came home with all of my stuff in
- 18:40Speaker 6: tow and pregnant, and of course everybody who used to
- 18:44Speaker 6: tease me. We can't even talk about the teasing that
- 18:47Speaker 6: I endured while I was going to school.
- 18:49Speaker 2: In high school.
- 18:51Speaker 6: Because I was out of pocket. Everybody went to the
- 18:54Speaker 6: feeder school, and the Lord, as he only can do,
- 19:01Speaker 6: made a way for me to go to this different school.
- 19:06Speaker 6: And most people, my friends that I jump rope with
- 19:09Speaker 6: and skated with up and down the street and played
- 19:11Speaker 6: hopscotch with.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Did not like that. And so when I came home
- 19:19Speaker 2: for whatever reason, because you're.
- 19:21Speaker 6: Early girl, why you home was the question. And when
- 19:25Speaker 6: I told one of my neighbors, she said to me,
- 19:29Speaker 6: will go down to I think it's twenty seventh an
- 19:32Speaker 6: Allegheny and get on welfare on Monday, because they'll give
- 19:35Speaker 6: you a check and they'll give you some money for food.
- 19:38Speaker 6: And see, that was the mindset of the area where
- 19:41Speaker 6: I lived. Go down to welfare and get on welfare
- 19:46Speaker 6: and you'll be fine. And I asked him how much
- 19:47Speaker 6: she gave, and she said somewhere like seventy dollars a week.
- 19:52Speaker 6: Now Here I am coming home having made four hundred,
- 19:56Speaker 6: five hundred dollars a week. You're gonna tell me you're
- 19:59Speaker 6: gonna pay me seventy dollars a week. And there was
- 20:01Speaker 6: something that just triggered and it.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Was like no.
- 20:06Speaker 6: And then she told me there are no jobs out there,
- 20:09Speaker 6: so you need to just get on welfare.
- 20:12Speaker 2: That Monday morning, I.
- 20:13Speaker 6: Put on my one really good suit, got on the
- 20:18Speaker 6: thirty three bus, went downtown, and by Friday I had
- 20:23Speaker 6: a job at a bank, full time job and a
- 20:26Speaker 6: part time job at a at a department store. So
- 20:32Speaker 6: that next Saturday, I knocked on her door and I'm
- 20:36Speaker 6: gonna say her name, and I knocked on her door
- 20:39Speaker 6: and I said, I just want to let you know
- 20:42Speaker 6: that I got my job.
- 20:43Speaker 4: And your job, Dan don'too. So you a little spicy
- 20:53Speaker 4: missus Jenny's you love spicy. A little spicy Jenne said,
- 20:57Speaker 4: don't let this keute face fool. Yeah, with this baby cat,
- 21:01Speaker 4: I'm going I'm gonna get this money.
- 21:04Speaker 6: Yes, And you know that there was just that something
- 21:07Speaker 6: in me that said, although I had wasted that season,
- 21:13Speaker 6: something in me was like, no, this cannot be you.
- 21:18Speaker 2: That's why God.
- 21:19Speaker 6: And that was even before I was born again. I
- 21:21Speaker 6: knew God because we all went to church. I knew
- 21:24Speaker 6: of God, but I didn't know God. And so something
- 21:28Speaker 6: in me was like, you, you didn't go to that
- 21:31Speaker 6: high school to come home and be this. And when
- 21:38Speaker 6: I came to knock on her door and told her literally,
- 21:41Speaker 6: I have your job and mind, that was the transition
- 21:47Speaker 6: that put postured me for my born again experience.
- 21:55Speaker 4: So what I'm hearing you say is that you're born
- 22:00Speaker 4: again experience. Your the decision of where I call it
- 22:06Speaker 4: the intersection of decision, really showed you not only that
- 22:15Speaker 4: you needed God, but it really introduced you to your purpose.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Like when we talk about and so to answer like
- 22:25Speaker 4: the question, would you say for someone like twenty five
- 22:29Speaker 4: thirty years old that is going through that, would you
- 22:33Speaker 4: tell them to pay attention to their current season to
- 22:38Speaker 4: suggest the idea of where they're going to the direction
- 22:42Speaker 4: they're going to, or would you say pay attention to
- 22:46Speaker 4: like what might be the same thing I'm saying, like
- 22:48Speaker 4: paying attention to the pain that it's being allowed, not cause,
- 22:53Speaker 4: but allowed so that they can be introduced to their purpose.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Because that's what I'm hearing you say, that your paying
- 23:00Speaker 4: produced your purpose into being able to help people find
- 23:04Speaker 4: these careers to be able to be excellent walking the
- 23:08Speaker 4: excellence that God has created them to do right.
- 23:11Speaker 6: Because I believe that you're the things that are causing
- 23:15Speaker 6: you the discomfort and the pain are made or priming
- 23:20Speaker 6: you to be able to hear now that still small
- 23:25Speaker 6: voice is going to guide you. Because once when I
- 23:30Speaker 6: came home and I had the two.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Jobs, not one, but two, not one but.
- 23:37Speaker 6: Two, so I the one at the banks, I can
- 23:39Speaker 6: make the money, and the one at the.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Department stores, I can look good. Right, you all got
- 23:44Speaker 2: to look good. That's why I came home. And that
- 23:46Speaker 2: that uh, you all right? But uh, there was a
- 23:51Speaker 2: young man who was a couple.
- 23:53Speaker 6: Of years younger than me who was born again, I
- 23:56Speaker 6: mean on fire for God, Baptist preacher Fire Brimston, and
- 24:00Speaker 6: he was younger, and so you know, he got abuse
- 24:04Speaker 6: from the people around the way too, because who wants
- 24:08Speaker 6: to hear this kid talking about you know, Jesus and
- 24:12Speaker 6: John the Baptist and y'all should read your Bible and
- 24:14Speaker 6: you want to come.
- 24:14Speaker 2: To Bible study.
- 24:16Speaker 6: But every once in a while he would get in
- 24:18Speaker 6: my ear. And then I decided to go back to school.
- 24:23Speaker 6: So I went back to the school where I had attended,
- 24:27Speaker 6: and I was elected president of my sorority chapter for
- 24:33Speaker 6: that year. And I was in school in August, and
- 24:38Speaker 6: I was the consummate party animal. The consummate party animal. Okay,
- 24:45Speaker 6: I'm already sorority up. Yeah, I'm the continent party animal.
- 24:50Speaker 6: I left in August, the party animal, went back home
- 24:57Speaker 6: for the school break for the summer, and on my
- 25:03Speaker 6: way back for the fall semester, the Lord met me
- 25:08Speaker 6: on Pennsylvania turnpipe, and all of what had been poured
- 25:13Speaker 6: into me from my friend came alive.
- 25:21Speaker 2: While I'm by.
- 25:22Speaker 6: Myself driving back because god, you know when that quiet
- 25:29Speaker 6: time right, because I'm never person to listen to music,
- 25:32Speaker 6: you know, while i'm driving, And so I'm driving back,
- 25:36Speaker 6: laid on the turnpike, and the Lord touched my spirit
- 25:43Speaker 6: and I was stone cold born again. When I got
- 25:48Speaker 6: out my car, I put my bags in my house.
- 25:52Speaker 6: I emptied my apartment.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Of all alcohol.
- 25:56Speaker 6: I called my sorrowers the next day to let them
- 26:00Speaker 6: know I was born again, and that because my signature
- 26:04Speaker 6: was the only one that mattered on campus, I would
- 26:07Speaker 6: not be signing for any parties that had anything to
- 26:12Speaker 6: do with alcohol.
- 26:14Speaker 4: And I'm telling you, you went from zero to one
- 26:17Speaker 4: hundred real quick.
- 26:21Speaker 6: Yes, yes, and it's funny just because I went from
- 26:27Speaker 6: zero to one hundred, and all my whole chapter hated me,
- 26:31Speaker 6: like immediately.
- 26:32Speaker 2: All ones. But they were mad.
- 26:36Speaker 6: They were like, what do you mean we can't have parties?
- 26:38Speaker 6: What's going on? And now fast forward forty five years later,
- 26:46Speaker 6: all of my sore wars are born again, all of them,
- 26:52Speaker 6: and several of them are ordained ministers as well.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Because you are ordained minister, how long have you been
- 27:01Speaker 4: a minister?
- 27:04Speaker 2: Well, I've been teaching a bye all for forty plus years.
- 27:07Speaker 6: Yeah, and I have been officially ordained since twenty twelve.
- 27:14Speaker 4: That whole idea, though, miss Jen, is of being ordained,
- 27:17Speaker 4: not ordained, because I'm okay, just to be transparent with you,
- 27:20Speaker 4: I'm not an ordained minister. And people always inquire me like, oh,
- 27:27Speaker 4: how long have you been in ministry?
- 27:28Speaker 6: Da?
- 27:28Speaker 4: Da da da? And they asked it like I'm ordained.
- 27:32Speaker 4: I'm like, well, technically I'm not ordained by manstandard. However,
- 27:37Speaker 4: as I walk through this life, you know like I
- 27:40Speaker 4: just know what the Lord has called me to do,
- 27:43Speaker 4: and I'm just gonna do it whether you are damn
- 27:46Speaker 4: you or not.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Like I've been in a church where I'm just like.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Operated in ministry and they you know, they have chosen
- 27:55Speaker 4: not to ordain me, and that's cool.
- 27:57Speaker 5: I'm good with that, Like I'm totally fine.
- 28:00Speaker 4: So like for people that struggled right there, like how
- 28:03Speaker 4: would you minister to that?
- 28:06Speaker 6: So when I became born a begain, literally I didn't
- 28:11Speaker 6: know what to do except to.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Do what I knew to do, which was to.
- 28:15Speaker 6: Go to a church, which was to go to the
- 28:17Speaker 6: local church at school.
- 28:20Speaker 2: And I became affiliated with that church.
- 28:23Speaker 6: And I know now that the Lord had laid a
- 28:26Speaker 6: mantle of teaching upon me. So within a year's time,
- 28:32Speaker 6: I was teaching.
- 28:33Speaker 2: A Sunday school for children.
- 28:37Speaker 6: Barely born again myself, but I could teach Sunday school
- 28:40Speaker 6: for children right And from that time till now, literally
- 28:46Speaker 6: I have ministered and or taught from the nursery to
- 28:52Speaker 6: the pulpit. And it is not God does not require
- 29:00Speaker 6: man's sanction upon who you are unless he does, and
- 29:07Speaker 6: if he needs that, he will make that happen. Just
- 29:12Speaker 6: like when Moses was getting ready to transition, he had
- 29:17Speaker 6: been training Joshua.
- 29:20Speaker 4: That's so good, all.
- 29:23Speaker 6: Time, and Joshua was Moses's minister. Joshua was in the
- 29:29Speaker 6: tent with Moses as Moses was ministering to the Lord
- 29:33Speaker 6: and hearing from the Lord, and sometimes when Moses would leave,
- 29:38Speaker 6: the Bible indicates that Joshua would stay. And when it
- 29:44Speaker 6: was time for the transition, the dispensations to change from
- 29:52Speaker 6: the need for a leader who was a diplomat to
- 29:58Speaker 6: the need for a leader who a warrior. God who
- 30:04Speaker 6: had ordained Moses transitioned Joshua, and it says that God
- 30:13Speaker 6: began to amplify Joshua in the eyes of the people.
- 30:18Speaker 2: That's in the Word.
- 30:21Speaker 6: And then when God took Moses up on the mountain
- 30:25Speaker 6: to show him the land, the promised land, and he
- 30:30Speaker 6: was never to return, Joshua then was ushered into his
- 30:35Speaker 6: role as the leader. And there was not a hiccup
- 30:39Speaker 6: with regard to the children of Israel.
- 30:42Speaker 2: They didn't miss a beat.
- 30:44Speaker 4: I think something you just said is so important, though,
- 30:47Speaker 4: and that's not just it's in both ministry and marketplace.
- 30:51Speaker 4: And I was just I was just talking to I
- 30:54Speaker 4: was talking to one of my best friends last night
- 30:57Speaker 4: and I was telling sharing with her that I am
- 31:01Speaker 4: the Lord has opened the door for me to be
- 31:03Speaker 4: on the worship team again because I haven't done the
- 31:06Speaker 4: worship ministry in several years. And so at the end
- 31:12Speaker 4: of last year, the Lord opened the door for me
- 31:14Speaker 4: to serve on the worship team because there was a gap, right,
- 31:17Speaker 4: there was a gap that I was feeling and stuff
- 31:20Speaker 4: like that. But I have been serving as the media
- 31:24Speaker 4: director for a while. So I told her, I said, listen,
- 31:28Speaker 4: I'm looking for my successor. I'm actively looking for the
- 31:33Speaker 4: person that the Lord says, hey, this is going to you.
- 31:36Speaker 4: Because I just know that the media director is not
- 31:39Speaker 4: the final destination of servitude for my church. I know
- 31:44Speaker 4: that I'm comfortable with that thought, but I also know
- 31:47Speaker 4: that there's a legacy for me to leave in that department,
- 31:49Speaker 4: meaning that there's an assignment that I have that I
- 31:53Speaker 4: have to make sure that I fulfill before I succeed.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Give this to my successor. They shouldn't have to do
- 32:00Speaker 4: with it. And so I think there are leaders how
- 32:06Speaker 4: can I see this? There are legals, not not legals,
- 32:11Speaker 4: leaders that struggle in the marketplace, but also especially in
- 32:17Speaker 4: the ministry of the process of the successor. So if
- 32:24Speaker 4: you had language to give to that type of leader,
- 32:27Speaker 4: whether they're in the marketplace or leading in ministry or both,
- 32:31Speaker 4: it could be the same process. What does that look like?
- 32:35Speaker 4: How do I properly position the success for success as
- 32:41Speaker 4: a leader?
- 32:41Speaker 2: Okay?
- 32:43Speaker 6: So one of the things, one of the ministries that
- 32:46Speaker 6: I had the opportunity to be a part of was
- 32:48Speaker 6: our toddler and nursery ministry. Now, I always jokingly said,
- 32:54Speaker 6: I only have grace and then for three and.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Everybody else's child to get pinned up with the wall.
- 33:08Speaker 6: But when, but when God, when God puts a mantle
- 33:12Speaker 6: on you, he does it.
- 33:15Speaker 2: He does it full circle. Okay.
- 33:17Speaker 6: So this story is about when my youngest son was
- 33:23Speaker 6: a he.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Was still in nursery nursery age.
- 33:26Speaker 6: He was maybe eight or nine months, and every other
- 33:30Speaker 6: Sunday our.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Nursery was closed. Now, y'all know.
- 33:36Speaker 6: Moms need nurseries, and moms you know that we just do.
- 33:43Speaker 6: And so every other Sunday I'm pressing my face against
- 33:46Speaker 6: the glass looking for.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Somebody taking care of my son.
- 33:50Speaker 6: And so the Lord brought to my mind the the
- 33:55Speaker 6: scripture in her Bacca when he said he talked to
- 34:00Speaker 6: a back of or her back of was complaining saying,
- 34:03Speaker 6: you know, Lord, where all of this? The children of Israel,
- 34:06Speaker 6: we are the chosen people. Why are we going through this?
- 34:11Speaker 6: And he was complaining to the Lord, and that's when
- 34:14Speaker 6: the Lord's and that's when the Lord he spoke to
- 34:18Speaker 6: the Lord and he said, now I'm gonna sit on
- 34:20Speaker 6: my watch and wait and here and hear what it
- 34:25Speaker 6: is God has to say, and see what I will
- 34:28Speaker 6: do when I'm reproved. And the Lord said, write the
- 34:32Speaker 6: vision and make it plain. And what I got and
- 34:36Speaker 6: this was all why I had my face pressed to
- 34:38Speaker 6: the glass looking for somebody. And and the way the
- 34:44Speaker 6: Lord showed me this scripture, it was like, if you
- 34:49Speaker 6: see the problem, you and you really see the problem,
- 34:55Speaker 6: you're the one to fix it.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Come on.
- 35:00Speaker 2: And again I only had grace.
- 35:03Speaker 6: For three but I went to the person who was
- 35:08Speaker 6: the leader of our children's ministry and I said, this
- 35:12Speaker 6: is what I want to do.
- 35:15Speaker 2: I want to.
- 35:17Speaker 6: Take the toddler in the nursery ministry and I want
- 35:21Speaker 6: to organize it. I want to help the teachers. I
- 35:26Speaker 6: want to help to build the volunteers. I want to
- 35:29Speaker 6: give moms a space, families a space to bring their
- 35:34Speaker 6: children from ages from you know, nursery to four and
- 35:39Speaker 6: I will be the point person, and I will be
- 35:42Speaker 6: fully responsible for the setting up the organization, making sure
- 35:46Speaker 6: it's attended and everything necessary. I don't want a title.
- 35:53Speaker 6: I don't want to have to come to leadership meetings
- 35:56Speaker 6: and all that stuff. I'm not trying to be that.
- 36:00Speaker 6: I'm just trying to put this together. And for four
- 36:04Speaker 6: years I was responsible for that, and I galvanized every
- 36:10Speaker 6: family that had toddlers and nursery children. We had it
- 36:14Speaker 6: fully staffed, we had teachers, We did not have one
- 36:18Speaker 6: down day.
- 36:20Speaker 2: It was organized.
- 36:22Speaker 6: Curriculums, you know, snack times and you know, what do
- 36:28Speaker 6: we do?
- 36:29Speaker 2: What do they call it? When you do the little
- 36:35Speaker 2: what do they call it? You make the make the
- 36:37Speaker 2: little things? What do you call it? I can't think
- 36:40Speaker 2: of arsen grafts, arts.
- 36:42Speaker 6: And crafts, the whole nine yard, y'all see how far
- 36:46Speaker 6: away from that I am now.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Kind of sight, out of mind.
- 36:51Speaker 6: So arts and crafts, snacks, the whole nine yards. And
- 36:54Speaker 6: I did that for four years as the leader, and
- 37:00Speaker 6: everybody who had a child in there had to commit
- 37:04Speaker 6: one adult to be a part of the volunteer staff.
- 37:09Speaker 6: And I don't care where you sit in the church,
- 37:12Speaker 6: MM hmmm, period a period. If you have a child
- 37:17Speaker 6: up in here, unteer, you volunteering, or you or the
- 37:22Speaker 6: child gotta go with you. And so, but those that
- 37:28Speaker 6: are struggling with their nursery ministry, go ahead and go
- 37:31Speaker 6: ahead and take this idea, because I agree because some
- 37:35Speaker 6: of these folks just be wanting to break and they
- 37:37Speaker 6: don't want to serve.
- 37:38Speaker 5: Uh And I get I get wanting to break.
- 37:40Speaker 4: But you you at least need to know what's going
- 37:42Speaker 4: on with the ministry you sending your child to.
- 37:46Speaker 2: You do and this is this is this is a
- 37:49Speaker 2: body ministry.
- 37:50Speaker 6: We are the body of Christ. And so we come
- 37:54Speaker 6: in not everybody, just like with tithes and offerings, God
- 37:58Speaker 6: doesn't everybody to give the same amount, but he asked
- 38:02Speaker 6: everybody to give the same sacrifice, which is ten percent
- 38:06Speaker 6: my God.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Okay, yep.
- 38:12Speaker 6: So everybody had somebody in there. And it's interesting because
- 38:19Speaker 6: I didn't even tell this story till my son until
- 38:23Speaker 6: he was nineteen that he and he actually served in
- 38:28Speaker 6: the nursery room from age fourteen until he graduated from
- 38:32Speaker 6: high school and he didn't even know it. And let
- 38:35Speaker 6: me say this, when I left that four years, I
- 38:38Speaker 6: had identified somebody who had been serving with me. This
- 38:41Speaker 6: is your question. They had been serving with me, and
- 38:47Speaker 6: I asked them privately if they could see their way
- 38:51Speaker 6: to be able to do this. The ministry was organized,
- 38:55Speaker 6: it was funded, it was well developed. Everything that they
- 39:00Speaker 6: needed was right there. They knew, they knew how to
- 39:04Speaker 6: do everything, and so I asked them first if they
- 39:09Speaker 6: would be open to doing it, and when they said yes,
- 39:12Speaker 6: then that was my transition. And then I talked to
- 39:16Speaker 6: the person who was the leader of the overall ministry
- 39:20Speaker 6: and she find with it because I left her in good.
- 39:25Speaker 2: I left it in order.
- 39:27Speaker 4: Miss Jannis, please stop, just wait, just wait one minute. Okay, So, Desiree,
- 39:32Speaker 4: you remember that I told you I had like a
- 39:34Speaker 4: plan in my head and what I thought or whatever
- 39:36Speaker 4: as far as the builder and the Holy Spirit just
- 39:39Speaker 4: told me in this moment, why Miss Jannis was here.
- 39:44Speaker 4: Come on, I didn't know this about Miss Jannis before
- 39:49Speaker 4: she just shared this. And the thing about it, Miss Jennis,
- 39:53Speaker 4: is what you don't know is that Desi Rae and
- 39:57Speaker 4: I are in the current season for both of our
- 40:01Speaker 4: churches separately. She is building structure in her media team.
- 40:06Speaker 4: I'm building structure with mine. And let me just have
- 40:10Speaker 4: a transparent moment with you. I've had moments of just
- 40:17Speaker 4: some just very understandable frustration in this building process as
- 40:25Speaker 4: a servant, and I understand the the the responsibility, and
- 40:32Speaker 4: the honor. It's such an honor to serve. It really is.
- 40:38Speaker 4: It's also a unique space, especially when you're It's the
- 40:44Speaker 4: difference when you're serving something that's already structured. It's a
- 40:49Speaker 4: whole nother ballgame when you're serving and building what to
- 40:54Speaker 4: serve at the same time. How did you keep your
- 40:59Speaker 4: mind in tech? Like? What what did you do? Like
- 41:02Speaker 4: how did you manage your frustrations? What was your communication
- 41:05Speaker 4: with your leadership? Like outside of like, hey, this is
- 41:08Speaker 4: what I'm gonna do this when I'm not gonna do
- 41:09Speaker 4: X y Z. Because you did it for four years
- 41:11Speaker 4: before you released it. That's not a short time.
- 41:15Speaker 2: No, That's why you know it was God. Why you
- 41:22Speaker 2: know it was God?
- 41:24Speaker 6: Because now, I mean, I love the fact that now
- 41:27Speaker 6: I look at those that I served and I'm talking
- 41:31Speaker 6: about the children. Yeah, I look at those that I
- 41:34Speaker 6: served who are now graduating from high school, graduating from college,
- 41:41Speaker 6: towering over my head when I pampered their butts. Okay,
- 41:46Speaker 6: they are now towering over my head, and I love
- 41:50Speaker 6: I loved that for them and for me because I'm
- 41:53Speaker 6: taking pictures with people, you know that were like little
- 41:57Speaker 6: baby people. And one young lady in particular, her name
- 42:01Speaker 6: is Aliah. She was the most feisty thing ever. She's
- 42:05Speaker 6: the same age as my son, he's now twenty. They
- 42:08Speaker 6: are both twenty six. And she came in fighting like
- 42:13Speaker 6: she's not even to my knee, walking up, hitting me
- 42:17Speaker 6: every morning, and you know, toying with me.
- 42:21Speaker 2: I mean, she wasn't doing it maliciously. You know, kids
- 42:24Speaker 2: can't be vicious.
- 42:25Speaker 6: She was just feisty.
- 42:27Speaker 2: And she would come in every every Sunday morning that
- 42:30Speaker 2: she was there. And I was there because I didn't
- 42:32Speaker 2: serve every day. Every Sunday I was on. I was scheduled.
- 42:36Speaker 6: I would check in, but I was on the schedule
- 42:39Speaker 6: just like everybody else. I had that many volunteers that
- 42:42Speaker 6: no one person had to had to be in there
- 42:47Speaker 6: more than once every six weeks. That's how many volunteers
- 42:50Speaker 6: I had. That's good, going from not seeing anybody a
- 42:55Speaker 6: dark room and me pressing my face.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Through the glass.
- 42:58Speaker 6: Yeah, to have of adults and youth, people who had children,
- 43:05Speaker 6: and people who did not have children.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Who were part of the nursery room.
- 43:10Speaker 6: I found people who had a heart for children who
- 43:12Speaker 6: may not whose children may have grown up.
- 43:14Speaker 2: All of that, but let's get back to Aliyah.
- 43:17Speaker 6: So Aliyah walk up to me and you know, give
- 43:22Speaker 6: me a push.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Or whatever and grab my leg and we'll be like
- 43:25Speaker 2: I mean.
- 43:29Speaker 6: And now she is a grown woman.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Oh wait, when she graduated.
- 43:34Speaker 6: So we used to have their with their birthday date
- 43:37Speaker 6: on their on the sign because some people try to
- 43:41Speaker 6: leave their kids in there longer, so that we knew
- 43:46Speaker 6: when they were four. So for their birthday there girl.
- 43:49Speaker 6: The day she graduated, I call her graduated.
- 43:53Speaker 2: And her mother picked her up. I started singing popping
- 43:55Speaker 2: circumstance when I hed over, Eliah take her.
- 44:04Speaker 6: But now she is an adult person, and she is
- 44:09Speaker 6: an amazing.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Woman, a woman that you know.
- 44:14Speaker 6: And I just look at that and I say, Lord,
- 44:16Speaker 6: I thank you that he gave me the patience to
- 44:19Speaker 6: be able to do that. And you know, when you
- 44:22Speaker 6: can do something that is not of your nature, you
- 44:26Speaker 6: know that it's.
- 44:27Speaker 2: A mantle of God.
- 44:28Speaker 6: And when God, God places a mantle, God has the
- 44:32Speaker 6: right and the authority to lift it. And when he
- 44:37Speaker 6: lifts it.
- 44:38Speaker 4: We better move, We better move, We better move, we
- 44:43Speaker 4: better move. I think you're walking through a journey. You're
- 44:50Speaker 4: walking through a journey, and I want to back us
- 44:52Speaker 4: up just a little bit just to kind of see
- 44:56Speaker 4: the consistent theme of this journey. And I deem it
- 45:04Speaker 4: as purpose driven obedience. And that's what I'm seeing the
- 45:13Speaker 4: consistency of, no matter the intake or the outcome, it
- 45:19Speaker 4: was always a purpose driven obedience that came out of
- 45:25Speaker 4: you in this journey. And so it's like, Okay, I
- 45:28Speaker 4: go to this high school. I do well with this
- 45:30Speaker 4: high school. I'm intentional. I have all this knowledge and
- 45:34Speaker 4: this wellness about me. I go to college, I play
- 45:37Speaker 4: around a little bit, and I get pregnant, and I
- 45:40Speaker 4: come back, but I still didn't give up on myself.
- 45:42Speaker 4: I still was I knew there was something greater and
- 45:45Speaker 4: beyond me. And so now I go from from from
- 45:50Speaker 4: not just being a college student, but a single woman,
- 45:52Speaker 4: and then I go with a child, and so now
- 45:55Speaker 4: I go to Now I go to back to school,
- 45:59Speaker 4: and I have the encounter with God so much so
- 46:02Speaker 4: that everybody had to be on the accord that I was,
- 46:05Speaker 4: that I was on, and so in that journey, you
- 46:09Speaker 4: made some adjustment. That's purpose driven obedience. So then I
- 46:13Speaker 4: go from graduating and now I'm in the midst of
- 46:17Speaker 4: this and I'm serving or going to church and I'm
- 46:20Speaker 4: learning about God. But I'm frustrated because I need some
- 46:24Speaker 4: time for me. I need some time for me, and
- 46:27Speaker 4: my righteous frustration led to a solution. Purpose driven obedience.
- 46:34Speaker 4: It led to a solution to something greater than who
- 46:37Speaker 4: I am. Right, it was bigger than me and even
- 46:42Speaker 4: and I think an important thing to master, especially for
- 46:47Speaker 4: women that have gone through the same system as being
- 46:51Speaker 4: a mother before marriage. Right, the society tries to condemn
- 46:57Speaker 4: those type of women, acting like they laid down by themselves.
- 47:00Speaker 4: But that's a there's a whole nother tangent for another day.
- 47:03Speaker 4: That's there's another the other tank for another day. Okay,
- 47:05Speaker 4: I would go slap off, but.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Right there, let me put a pend on that.
- 47:11Speaker 6: My pastor would say this. There are no illegitimate children
- 47:14Speaker 6: because they came here the way they're supposed to. The
- 47:17Speaker 6: illegitimate ones are the parents. Yeah, because they didn't have
- 47:20Speaker 6: license to produce.
- 47:22Speaker 4: Come on, come on, and and and the thing the
- 47:26Speaker 4: thing with that is you did not allow that to
- 47:28Speaker 4: stop you that actually enhanced and gave you, gave you
- 47:33Speaker 4: answers to to be the solution for other people that
- 47:37Speaker 4: were not being able to strong enough to be the
- 47:40Speaker 4: solution for themselves. And I think purpose driven obedience always
- 47:46Speaker 4: lands you in the place where you're supposed to be.
- 47:50Speaker 4: And that's all I'm hearing. That's what I continue to
- 47:52Speaker 4: hear you say, even in the matter of you building
- 47:55Speaker 4: a ministry within the ministry, because the pastor can only
- 47:59Speaker 4: do so much, right, the pastor is the overall vision
- 48:02Speaker 4: or whatever, But we that serve have to be willing
- 48:06Speaker 4: enough to say, you know what, let me put structure
- 48:07Speaker 4: to this part of the ministry. Let me put structure
- 48:09Speaker 4: to this part of the ministry. And and and what
- 48:13Speaker 4: we use what we utilize in the marketplace, right, because
- 48:17Speaker 4: I can only imagine those tools and the way you
- 48:20Speaker 4: knew how to structure in the ministry. Those are tools
- 48:22Speaker 4: that you use in the marketplace. And am I am
- 48:24Speaker 4: I correct in thinking that.
- 48:27Speaker 6: Absolutely that and that that is the thing that if
- 48:30Speaker 6: we pay attention to how the Body of Christ has
- 48:34Speaker 6: been structured. The Word says that the fivefold ministry, the apostle,
- 48:42Speaker 6: the prophet, the pastor, the teacher and the evangelists are
- 48:46Speaker 6: for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of
- 48:50Speaker 6: the ministry. So what what is in us? God gives
- 48:57Speaker 6: us the fivefold or the hand of God, which says,
- 49:01Speaker 6: you know, submit yourself unto the hand of God.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Under the hand of God.
- 49:05Speaker 6: He gives us those to help us to cultivate, nurture,
- 49:11Speaker 6: and develop the gifts and the callings that are within us,
- 49:16Speaker 6: so that we can go out into now the church,
- 49:19Speaker 6: the church in and of itself, the gathering and the people,
- 49:22Speaker 6: that is ministry. Yet I think the broader ministry is
- 49:27Speaker 6: the world, the marketplace. So I'm supposed to come into
- 49:32Speaker 6: the church. Maybe I'm a you know, maybe I'm a
- 49:35Speaker 6: little feistier than most, and maybe i'm this, that and
- 49:38Speaker 6: the other thing. And I'm supposed to come into the
- 49:41Speaker 6: church and learn how to love. I'm supposed to come
- 49:44Speaker 6: to church and learn how to listen. I'm supposed to
- 49:47Speaker 6: come in church and learn how to be in order.
- 49:50Speaker 6: I'm supposed to come into church and learn how to
- 49:54Speaker 6: be giving and generous. And the Bible teaches us how
- 49:57Speaker 6: to do some corrections to you know, I'm supposed to
- 50:00Speaker 6: learn to do those things. But in a way that
- 50:03Speaker 6: maintains relationship.
- 50:07Speaker 2: That's so good, and that.
- 50:11Speaker 6: I take out into the world so that the world
- 50:15Speaker 6: might know who Christ is by having engaged me. And
- 50:23Speaker 6: now they want to know, how do I learned that?
- 50:27Speaker 2: Where'd you learn that from? Because you sure didn't get
- 50:30Speaker 2: that from universities.
- 50:32Speaker 6: You sure didn't get that from the hood. So how
- 50:38Speaker 6: do we how do we learn it? We learn it
- 50:40Speaker 6: in the context of the church. Now, church in and
- 50:43Speaker 6: of itself, because it's they're imperfect people. Church is going
- 50:46Speaker 6: to be imperfect.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, but we learn.
- 50:53Speaker 6: Helps us to overcome that and helps us to be
- 50:59Speaker 6: the kind for the citizens of this world because we're
- 51:06Speaker 6: from two different nations, two different kingdoms. Yeah, and we're
- 51:10Speaker 6: here to approselytize, convert.
- 51:16Speaker 5: You already all know what the word be, I know.
- 51:21Speaker 6: To convert those who are of the world to come
- 51:26Speaker 6: into our kingdom because we're citizens. Just we're soldiers and
- 51:31Speaker 6: where this and where that, But we are more than
- 51:33Speaker 6: anything else. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God.
- 51:40Speaker 6: And if there's a kingdom, then there's a king And
- 51:43Speaker 6: if there's a kingdom, then there are rules.
- 51:45Speaker 2: And if they are a.
- 51:46Speaker 6: Kingdom, if there's a Kingdom, then they are citizens, and
- 51:50Speaker 6: if there are citizens, then we have rights.
- 51:59Speaker 4: I think we've need a collection, please, I missus Jane's
- 52:06Speaker 4: there's no way possible that we can just make this
- 52:09Speaker 4: a one episode situation. So we I'm already saying, like,
- 52:18Speaker 4: you gotta come back because there's there's so much too
- 52:22Speaker 4: unpacked even in just this conversation. This is so this
- 52:26Speaker 4: is just just to let y'all know, this is just
- 52:29Speaker 4: missus Janie's introduction is just eggs. That's just the intro.
- 52:33Speaker 4: It's just the intro because she family. But I does
- 52:37Speaker 4: a rays over here, Mama Jane's she she's over here.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Her face I wish you could see it because she
- 52:44Speaker 4: is just like so amazed you've been dropping Gems. Doesn't
- 52:48Speaker 4: wray you want to talk to her for a second. Yeah,
- 52:50Speaker 4: this was so good, Miss Jennie, thank you so much
- 52:52Speaker 4: for coming on. Like just said, this is just your introduction,
- 52:56Speaker 4: because we definitely got to I know this is on.
- 52:58Speaker 4: We only just like tap this the piece of the
- 53:00Speaker 4: surface of us something right. But one thing that you
- 53:04Speaker 4: said that that I've just been chewing on is how
- 53:09Speaker 4: typically the burden that the Lord puts in your heart
- 53:13Speaker 4: right and we may just think it's like, dang, why
- 53:16Speaker 4: they always why ain't nobody ever here? Or why they
- 53:19Speaker 4: always doing something like this, or and it's something that
- 53:21Speaker 4: keeps burning. It's a righteous frustration that keeps burning in
- 53:25Speaker 4: your spirit, and you don't know, you just think you
- 53:27Speaker 4: just get annoy it because they're not doing the things
- 53:30Speaker 4: that they're supposed to do. But the truth is, like
- 53:33Speaker 4: the burden is because you're supposed to be the one,
- 53:36Speaker 4: uh to handle that solution right he's given He's literally
- 53:40Speaker 4: putting the solution inside of you, and you have to
- 53:43Speaker 4: come into alignment with the word of the Lord in
- 53:46Speaker 4: order to be able to begin to walk that thing
- 53:48Speaker 4: out right. And so I love that because if if, if, if,
- 53:53Speaker 4: if we recognize that thing, then I think that a
- 53:58Speaker 4: lot of the frustration is not gonna necessarily go away,
- 54:00Speaker 4: but it won't be as frustrating as in like am
- 54:02Speaker 4: I crazy? Because the truth is, like some people have
- 54:06Speaker 4: burdens for things that other people don't. Right, So like
- 54:09Speaker 4: a case in point, like prison ministry, right, prison ministry
- 54:13Speaker 4: is a beautiful ministry. People are literally like have mentals
- 54:18Speaker 4: to go in and to reform and to love on
- 54:21Speaker 4: right those those people, right, I have a heart for them,
- 54:25Speaker 4: but I don't necessarily see myself going into the prison ministry. Yeah,
- 54:28Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, that's not my that's not
- 54:31Speaker 4: I know, that's not what the Lord has called me to, right,
- 54:33Speaker 4: But where the Lord has called me to, I have
- 54:35Speaker 4: a responsibility to step into that alignment of what he's
- 54:39Speaker 4: called me to do and and do that even if
- 54:41Speaker 4: I don't understand what that looks like. But the agreement
- 54:43Speaker 4: in the alignment gives the Lord permit the permission to
- 54:47Speaker 4: now be like, Okay, let's go. And so when you
- 54:50Speaker 4: said that, I think it just helped me to just
- 54:53Speaker 4: give proper language to like some of the spaces that
- 54:56Speaker 4: I've been in, Like I'm like, dang, just like do you, like,
- 55:01Speaker 4: do you have this kind of problem with podcasting? Like
- 55:04Speaker 4: like I'm asking Jessica questions because I'm like, dang, I
- 55:07Speaker 4: see her doing a thing, but she's I also see
- 55:09Speaker 4: a need there and it's a burden. Like if it
- 55:12Speaker 4: wasn't a burden or something on my heart, I wouldn't
- 55:14Speaker 4: have never asked, Like the Lord put that there for
- 55:16Speaker 4: me to ask her, for us the partner together for
- 55:19Speaker 4: a bigger vision than what I we could even ever imagine.
- 55:22Speaker 4: So that was so good when you said that, and
- 55:24Speaker 4: so I love to I'm visually watching the process of
- 55:29Speaker 4: you building out this children's ministry within this ministry because
- 55:33Speaker 4: there was a burden that you were facing.
- 55:36Speaker 6: Yeah. Right, And to that point, Desiree, twenty six years later,
- 55:43Speaker 6: Well that ministry is still thriving.
- 55:46Speaker 4: Wow, because you said yes, yes, because because you laid
- 55:52Speaker 4: a foundation, Miss Janet, come on the foundation. This is Lord,
- 55:57Speaker 4: Thank you Lord. Because sometimes we be like, Lord, am
- 56:01Speaker 4: I hearing you? I was like, what does this have
- 56:03Speaker 4: to do with the season that we're in? Lord? This
- 56:05Speaker 4: has I want to be very intentional about the building.
- 56:07Speaker 4: I want to be very attention about the building. You
- 56:09Speaker 4: just said. You just basically took us through the laying
- 56:13Speaker 4: of the foundation, like what it looks like to lay
- 56:18Speaker 4: a foundation in your building process. And the thing is,
- 56:23Speaker 4: the Lord has taken you to greater heights because of
- 56:27Speaker 4: your your little yes to a children's ministry. Thank you Lord.
- 56:31Speaker 4: Because of your yes to a children's ministry. And you
- 56:36Speaker 4: remained there for four years. You did not you didn't
- 56:38Speaker 4: go before you you didn't leave before you were told,
- 56:41Speaker 4: but you left when you when it was time you
- 56:44Speaker 4: didn't hold on to aspect four years out of the
- 56:48Speaker 4: how many years it's been you you did what your
- 56:51Speaker 4: part was to do and you released it. And I
- 56:55Speaker 4: think there's a lot of times we get frustrated as
- 56:58Speaker 4: builders because we on to get the foundation a part
- 57:01Speaker 4: of we only put on up the windows or we
- 57:03Speaker 4: put it on the roof, like, but you did your part.
- 57:06Speaker 6: Yeah, And so I ran, I was a part of
- 57:10Speaker 6: that ministry while I taught concurrently adults because I always said,
- 57:16Speaker 6: you know, my ministry is to adults. But God had
- 57:19Speaker 6: me allowed me to bring that portion of what I
- 57:24Speaker 6: needed to do with the children's ministry to pass while
- 57:29Speaker 6: I concurrently continue to teach adults inside the Contact Church.
- 57:35Speaker 6: So that's why I like to say that my ministry
- 57:38Speaker 6: has gone from the cradle the cradle literally to the pulpit,
- 57:43Speaker 6: because some of the people that I taught when they
- 57:45Speaker 6: were young in the ministry are now ordained. So and
- 57:51Speaker 6: I was sitting in what we call the box. You know,
- 57:53Speaker 6: there's a place where everybody says, before you go and
- 57:56Speaker 6: serve on the you know, doing whatever you're doing, announcements
- 57:59Speaker 6: or communion. And so we're sitting in the box and
- 58:02Speaker 6: a gentleman. One of the ministers was sitting next to
- 58:06Speaker 6: me and he said, you know what I found this morning?
- 58:09Speaker 2: And I was like, no.
- 58:13Speaker 6: He said, I was looking for something in some of
- 58:15Speaker 6: my papers, and I found a certificate for the for
- 58:21Speaker 6: the Basic Bible Doctrine class that you taught in nineteen
- 58:26Speaker 6: ninety with your signature on it for the because I
- 58:33Speaker 6: completed the course. And he said, from that course he
- 58:39Speaker 6: was so led to go back to school, finish his bachelor's.
- 58:43Speaker 2: Get an MDiv.
- 58:45Speaker 6: And now he is serving in ministry as one of
- 58:49Speaker 6: the ministers who on boards new converts in our church.
- 58:54Speaker 6: From nineteen ninety, I would say, Bron.
- 58:59Speaker 2: You had to tell me that. You don't have to
- 59:01Speaker 2: say exact.
- 59:04Speaker 4: I'm telling you how young you are missing it.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Yeah, i'd say nineteen ninety, like.
- 59:09Speaker 4: Seriously, but that's impact though, Yes, that's impact.
- 59:15Speaker 6: You asked a question Jess that I that really resonated,
- 59:20Speaker 6: and I want to share this because I know we
- 59:21Speaker 6: need we need to move forward. But I want to
- 59:24Speaker 6: share this because you said, how did I structure it?
- 59:26Speaker 6: How did I get through the frustrations and all those things?
- 59:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I recall when you said it. As soon as
- 59:31Speaker 2: you said it.
- 59:32Speaker 6: What came to my mind was the story of Nehemiah
- 59:35Speaker 6: and how when God gave him the burden, God gave
- 59:38Speaker 6: him the provision. God gave him the preparation. God gave
- 59:41Speaker 6: him the the you know, steps to take, and Niamayah
- 59:46Speaker 6: was on the down low with everything until it was
- 59:51Speaker 6: ready to go. He came in town. He didn't say
- 59:55Speaker 6: anything anybody. He was like, I'm not even here, you know.
- 59:58Speaker 6: He walked around, he he surveyed the land. He looked
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: at everything that needed to be done. He knew exactly
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: how much he needed to he needed as far as
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: building and all of that was concerned. He knew who
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: needed to do what, and when it was time to
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: pull the trigger. He didn't make a big announcement, but
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: when it's time to pull the trigger. He got that
- 1:00:18Speaker 6: project done in fifty one days. And anytime he had
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: a frustration, he went to the Lord with it because
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: he couldn't take that frustration to the people, because he
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: didn't want to break the people's spirit, because they were
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: already in a situation of building hammering one hand and
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: of sporting another.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: So they were all in a situation.
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: So that's the thing, you know, looking at what God
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: wants us to do, asking God for the plan and
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: giving us the wisdom to carry it out and deal
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: and engage him, Complain up and not down, complain and
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: not down, so that we can keep the momentum, keep
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: the spirits up, keep the keep the encouragement, and keep
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: the you know, attitude and where it needs to be
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: so that we can finish whatever the project is that
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: God would.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Have us to do.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: Deesi, Ray, do you think that was the final word?
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: I really feel like normally I would say, Hey, if
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: they didn't hear anything you said, would you just know
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: you really just you just really sommed all of this up.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: It's so good, like in the the most Janice Coleman
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: way you could have done. Okoy, to know Miss Janice
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: is to absolutely love her, embrace her and just sit.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: It's almost like being able to allow the oil to
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: be poured. And so Miss Jens, I'm super grateful for
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: your years. I pray that you would come back. Does
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: A ray Can she come back? She can come back?
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: I think I think you have an open door to
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: just as the podcast, baby, we don't open this door
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: to everybody. We won't be saying it. We won't be
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: saying that. We won't be saying we're gonna be lying
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: the folks because everybody can't come back. Everybody can't come back.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: But no, Miss Jennis, thank you so much. We appreciate you, y'all.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: If this resonated with you, please let's talk in and
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: comments you can follow Miss Jenne's. Her information is in
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: the description. She does do career development, leadership development. She
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: knows all about that. But this episode I feel like
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: exposed why she's trustworthy, right, She is so trustworthy. The
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: Lord trusts her heart, the Lord trusts her hand, the
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: Lord trustes her insight. And so I'm super excited for
