- 1:05Speaker 1: is streaming right now, So Kyle, thank you for patiently
- 1:09Speaker 1: waiting while we took care of some business. But Team
- 1:14Speaker 1: USA has advanced of the quarterfinals. It did not go
- 1:18Speaker 1: according to the original script. They kind of had to
- 1:21Speaker 1: math their way into it thanks to Italy beating Mexico
- 1:26Speaker 1: and scoring enough runs to kick in the tiebreaker in
- 1:29Speaker 1: favor of the US and to me, and I want
- 1:32Speaker 1: to get your thoughts on this. There's one person to
- 1:35Speaker 1: blame and that's Matt Holliday.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Your thoughts, Yeah, I mean, yeah, Holiday, I don't know
- 1:42Speaker 2: how you I don't know how you go the first
- 1:44Speaker 2: five or six as with outscore a run against Italy,
- 1:47Speaker 2: you know. I mean, so let's put a square on
- 1:50Speaker 2: our guy, Matt Holiday. And just you know, the late
- 1:53Speaker 2: surge was great help with run differential. But no, I mean,
- 1:57Speaker 2: I think you know this team a little bit if
- 2:00Speaker 2: I remember some of these scores and how they've gone.
- 2:02Speaker 2: You know, they've started slow, offensively a little bit and
- 2:06Speaker 2: then have kind of poured it on later in the game.
- 2:08Speaker 2: But you know, I think this obviously it was a
- 2:11Speaker 2: little bit of a misstep, right, And it was a
- 2:13Speaker 2: little bit of an issue here with thinking that they
- 2:16Speaker 2: were in and obviously they weren't.
- 2:19Speaker 3: But those things happened.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I mean, who wouldn't Who would have thought that it
- 2:24Speaker 2: wouldn't have just been a pretty easy tiebreaker rule and
- 2:28Speaker 2: you move on, right, But I don't know, it's a
- 2:32Speaker 2: I guess that's what makes us a little bit different.
- 2:34Speaker 2: It's all in the past now, right. I hear people
- 2:36Speaker 2: talk talking about well, it should DeRos even manage next time,
- 2:40Speaker 2: come on, guys, like, let's uh, let's just slow down
- 2:43Speaker 2: a little bit. And it was one little thing. Everybody
- 2:45Speaker 2: makes mistakes, but they're in. They gotta play Canada, looks
- 2:49Speaker 2: like and it should be a fun finish to this
- 2:52Speaker 2: WBC all right, But.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I wanted to give the background on Deroso, so he
- 2:58Speaker 1: gave an interview after they've been Mexico, saying, yeah, taking
- 3:02Speaker 1: his punched to the quarterfinals, and if you look at
- 3:05Speaker 1: the way he managed against Italy, you could see that's
- 3:10Speaker 1: the thought process he was operating under. Right, they started
- 3:13Speaker 1: Goldie at first against a right hander. They didn't pinch
- 3:16Speaker 1: run from it. At some point it kicked in. They're like
- 3:19Speaker 1: a run differential, right, It's all you know, DeRosa, who
- 3:24Speaker 1: is a really good guy, really good host on MLB
- 3:28Speaker 1: network and it was a really good player, good.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Guy all around. But he's taken some heat now.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But if you're the manager of Team USA, don't you
- 3:39Speaker 1: have to take the heat.
- 3:41Speaker 3: You take the heat.
- 3:42Speaker 2: It's just like any other manager. I mean, he's not
- 3:45Speaker 2: going to put it on the players, right, you take
- 3:46Speaker 2: the heat. And I think without him, I heard somebody
- 3:50Speaker 2: saying the other day that they were mad that he
- 3:52Speaker 2: didn't just come out.
- 3:53Speaker 3: And say, you know what, I messed up.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Well, okay, if we're talking about he said I misspoke,
- 3:58Speaker 2: I messed up, what's the difference he admitted that, you know,
- 4:01Speaker 2: he said that they closed the spot and they hadn't
- 4:04Speaker 2: and and is what it is? You know, Itt, sure
- 4:09Speaker 2: you're probably managing that game a little bit different, but
- 4:11Speaker 2: that same token, like, you know, Goldie is a really
- 4:16Speaker 2: good player. Okay, so you're starting against the rity, but
- 4:18Speaker 2: you're trying to get him in there. He's got to
- 4:20Speaker 2: get at bats, he's got to get innings too. This
- 4:22Speaker 2: is still guys getting ready for a season as well,
- 4:24Speaker 2: not just you know, running the same nine guys out there.
- 4:27Speaker 3: The whole time and not let everybody else get their bats.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Now, I don't know who would want to manage okay
- 4:34Speaker 1: it certainly I'm not smart enough to do it. You
- 4:37Speaker 1: got to be really smart. And then when it comes
- 4:39Speaker 1: to the World Baseball Classic, I mean, it's a lot
- 4:42Speaker 1: of time figuring out who we can get, what the
- 4:46Speaker 1: team specs are for, how this player can be used.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Kind of a thankless job. But some guys were saying, well,
- 4:54Speaker 1: what about Barrosa, he's never managing the big leagues. I
- 4:57Speaker 1: don't know if that man matters. Don't know if you
- 5:00Speaker 1: heard any of that too, But there weren't like guys
- 5:03Speaker 1: with big league manager will experience available. They went with DeRosa,
- 5:08Speaker 1: No one second guest did beforehand. Does it matter big
- 5:11Speaker 1: league experience or anything like that?
- 5:15Speaker 3: So no, it does not.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Let's just think here, which big league manager can you
- 5:22Speaker 2: pull away from their team in the middle of spring
- 5:24Speaker 2: training when they've got to reresponsible for setting a roster,
- 5:27Speaker 2: when maybe they don't even have a player in the
- 5:29Speaker 2: WBC out there and it's just them trying to get
- 5:32Speaker 2: their team ready. Which of these thirty managers are we
- 5:34Speaker 2: going to pull away? Which of these minor league managers
- 5:36Speaker 2: are we going to pull away from what they're trying
- 5:38Speaker 2: to do to get ready for a season.
- 5:40Speaker 1: You can get former managers who are you could have
- 5:42Speaker 1: gotten like a Bell or Girardi or Madden like that.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Sure, right, you could. Yeah, you're not wrong, Absolutely you could.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But I think you're managing an all star team here.
- 5:55Speaker 2: You're managing probably a group where as long as you
- 5:58Speaker 2: have the schedule set up, you don't mess up. The
- 6:00Speaker 2: BP groups they're probably gonna be fine. Like, don't put
- 6:04Speaker 2: her in judge in two different groups, just haven't been
- 6:07Speaker 2: one group, so he knows to hit once. Uh Like,
- 6:10Speaker 2: I think for the most part, this is to throw
- 6:12Speaker 2: the balls out there and let the guys go play
- 6:15Speaker 2: and see how it goes. You're probably not picking spots
- 6:21Speaker 2: for your specific lefty you know at bats or right
- 6:24Speaker 2: here at bats like you just you said it and go.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Let him play. So I think de Ro's got enough
- 6:30Speaker 3: baseball knowledge to do that. I don't know that's been
- 6:32Speaker 3: a problem.
- 6:32Speaker 4: We bicker.
- 6:33Speaker 1: We bicker on this show, you and I in particular.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I mean, the other guys drop bombs on me too.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But so I want to ask you this because I
- 6:41Speaker 1: do have ultimate respect for all of you guys, and.
- 6:44Speaker 4: You as well.
- 6:45Speaker 1: If you're Derosi, would you have just said messed up
- 6:51Speaker 1: because he did choose his words carefully misspoke? How would
- 6:54Speaker 1: Kyle Gibson handle it? Okay, you kind of didn't look
- 6:57Speaker 1: at the tiebreaker, you know, you got a really good
- 7:00Speaker 1: maybe you didn't look at everything, and then it gets exposed.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Kyle Gibson, you're at the podium, the media internationally is
- 7:08Speaker 1: looking at you. How do you explain yourself.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I'm probably saying basically what you just said here is like,
- 7:14Speaker 2: what were the scenarios that I actually looked at? Did
- 7:18Speaker 2: I think it was just run differential? Did I think
- 7:21Speaker 2: that it was just straight up head to head? You
- 7:24Speaker 2: know what am I looking at here? And I probably
- 7:28Speaker 2: would have just said, hey, yeah, I thought we were in.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Why else would I said that? You know, so I
- 7:34Speaker 2: probably would have just taken it that way. You're going
- 7:36Speaker 2: to take some heat either way. You're going to take
- 7:40Speaker 2: some heat, so you might as well just just kind
- 7:42Speaker 2: of take your medicine and move on and let people
- 7:44Speaker 2: take their shots and let people say what they're going
- 7:47Speaker 2: to say. Because everybody being the armchair quarterback, they never
- 7:51Speaker 2: would have made that mistake. You know that, nobody else
- 7:54Speaker 2: would have would have messed that up. Possibly on any
- 7:56Speaker 2: talk radio show that I've heard criticizing Mark Carosa, they
- 8:00Speaker 2: has gotten right one hundred percent of the time.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So team Italy did did a solid right. You saw
- 8:08Speaker 1: Passquatch say all right, I did that for you. US
- 8:12Speaker 1: Italy is a juggernaut. So this is what this is
- 8:15Speaker 1: what I This is what I notice. So when when
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know you read stuff and you look online, I
- 8:21Speaker 1: don't listen to sports talk radio, even though I have
- 8:24Speaker 1: destroyed a sports talk station or two in my career.
- 8:27Speaker 1: But you read comments and stuff and people are like,
- 8:30Speaker 1: Team Italy is good, but they're not Italian or Team Israel.
- 8:33Speaker 4: They're not even Israelis.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Aren't we losing the big picture when people focus on
- 8:39Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. It's guys with different backgrounds playing
- 8:43Speaker 1: for different teams internationally.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Am I wrong?
- 8:46Speaker 3: H No? I think they're right, and I think we.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I don't know who all would would make too much
- 8:54Speaker 2: of some of these things, right that you just said,
- 8:56Speaker 2: But if you have, my debate for that or in
- 9:00Speaker 2: my argument would be how much Israeli background do you
- 9:03Speaker 2: need to play for Team Israel?
- 9:05Speaker 3: Right?
- 9:06Speaker 4: Like?
- 9:06Speaker 3: Is it a grandparent? You know? What? Is like?
- 9:08Speaker 2: I think people can claim a lot of different nationalities
- 9:13Speaker 2: just by a little bit, you know, if we want
- 9:15Speaker 2: to get I don't know, we're not going to get political,
- 9:17Speaker 2: but I mean I think if you have that's why
- 9:20Speaker 2: they have the parameters. You know, Austin Wells is the
- 9:23Speaker 2: catcher for the Dominican team.
- 9:24Speaker 3: I don't know the tie.
- 9:25Speaker 2: There, but if he wants to represent and he wants
- 9:28Speaker 2: to show respect for some of his past relatives, whatever
- 9:35Speaker 2: that connection is, what are we upset about? You know,
- 9:38Speaker 2: like we're perfectly fine with displaying identity and personality and
- 9:43Speaker 2: creativity and so many fasts of our game, but we're
- 9:46Speaker 2: not okay when people who have some type of Italian
- 9:50Speaker 2: lineage that is close enough to trace legitimately that they
- 9:54Speaker 2: choose to go to Team Italy when there was no
- 9:58Speaker 2: room on Tembosa, right, I mean that's just how it was.
- 10:01Speaker 2: So yeah, I definitely, I definitely wouldn't say. You know,
- 10:04Speaker 2: I've heard some people say they're Temiosa's B team.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I don't like that.
- 10:08Speaker 2: You know, these are all big leaguers and you're not.
- 10:10Speaker 2: You can't criticize Michael Lorenzen because he's Michael Lorensen. He's
- 10:14Speaker 2: a big league pitcher. He gets guys out in the
- 10:16Speaker 2: big leagues all the time. You know, Aaron Nola goes
- 10:18Speaker 2: out there and shoves against New Mexico. Aaron Nola's really good,
- 10:21Speaker 2: by the way.
- 10:21Speaker 3: You know. So yeah, I don't.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I don't like the whole criticism of, well, these guys
- 10:26Speaker 2: aren't Italian. Well you know what I mean, except for
- 10:29Speaker 2: most of you know, the Dominican team that hail from
- 10:33Speaker 2: the Dominican or Venezuela team that hails from there, like
- 10:36Speaker 2: some of these countries.
- 10:36Speaker 3: That's how it is.
- 10:37Speaker 2: A lot of these players were born in the US
- 10:39Speaker 2: and they're able to trace olineag so why not let
- 10:40Speaker 2: them represent that?
- 10:42Speaker 1: And the goal too, is to create interest in whatever
- 10:45Speaker 1: country so that more local players advance, work hard, and
- 10:51Speaker 1: next thing, you know, they could represent that country.
- 10:53Speaker 4: That's what it's all about.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And I know that's what they're trying to do with
- 10:57Speaker 1: with the Italian team. One other thing about the World
- 11:00Speaker 1: Baseball Classic And to me, you're like, why would people
- 11:03Speaker 1: talking But because it's fun, all right?
- 11:05Speaker 4: But the the cal.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Ralegh A Rose Arena thing where cal didn't do the
- 11:10Speaker 1: fist bump and everything because his apparently his thing is
- 11:15Speaker 1: I'm playing on this team now where brothers, when we're
- 11:17Speaker 1: back to our you know, our own team in Seattle.
- 11:20Speaker 1: How would you have handled that? If you're representing Team USA,
- 11:25Speaker 1: would you be friendly with a teammate from your major
- 11:28Speaker 1: league team or would you lock in like like Rolly did?
- 11:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I don't know how Cala is in the middle of
- 11:35Speaker 2: the season when he's around people, you know, in the
- 11:37Speaker 2: batter's box that he knows well. He might not like
- 11:41Speaker 2: it when players walk up to the plate and try
- 11:44Speaker 2: to say hello to him. I know there are players
- 11:46Speaker 2: that definitely did not like it when a batter would
- 11:49Speaker 2: come up and tap their shin guard and say hello, Like,
- 11:52Speaker 2: what do you do it? Man, I'm on the other team.
- 11:54Speaker 3: We're playing a game. You know.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Wilson Contraras is one guy that it didn't matter that
- 11:59Speaker 2: it was his brother in the box. He was not cordial.
- 12:03Speaker 2: He's playing a game. He's trying to beat you. He's
- 12:05Speaker 2: doing everything he can to do that. So everybody's a
- 12:09Speaker 2: little bit different, you know. Just I think there's obviously
- 12:12Speaker 2: a little different expectations. Randy expected to go up there
- 12:15Speaker 2: and say hello to his teammate, Cal expected in this matchup.
- 12:20Speaker 2: This is a really heated matchup. We haven't beat Mexico
- 12:22Speaker 2: in however many years. We're all business right now, and
- 12:26Speaker 2: Cal decided to go all business. I my guess is
- 12:31Speaker 2: it's not more than that. But if it is right,
- 12:36Speaker 2: that's okay too, Because everybody outside of that locker room
- 12:40Speaker 2: of twenty six players in Seattle would be crazy to
- 12:43Speaker 2: think that all those players get along and are just
- 12:46Speaker 2: Hunky Dory for one hundred and eighty days.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 12:49Speaker 2: You go through spats, and you go through disagreements with teammates,
- 12:52Speaker 2: and sometimes you're not as corcial with guys. You know,
- 12:55Speaker 2: just no different than any other work environment than anybody
- 12:58Speaker 2: watching or listening to the show deals with. There's some
- 13:01Speaker 2: people in your work environment that you don't want to
- 13:03Speaker 2: say hello to. Uh, And it's no different, all.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Right, name some names with the when you're with the
- 13:09Speaker 1: Cardinals for that one season outside of me, that is.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Of people that I wouldn't want to talk to.
- 13:15Speaker 4: No, people that you didn't get along with.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Oh, people that I didn't get along with.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Uh.
- 13:20Speaker 2: In Saint Louis, I don't know if there was anybody.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I don't know that there was anybody in Saint Louis.
- 13:24Speaker 2: It happens right like there's a I had. I had
- 13:28Speaker 2: a teammate in Minnesota one time. I was really early
- 13:31Speaker 2: in my career. I was I missed the start because
- 13:34Speaker 2: of a back like a back spasm that locked up.
- 13:37Speaker 2: And I think it was like my second year into
- 13:39Speaker 2: Bigley's or something, and the trainer said, hey, uh, you
- 13:42Speaker 2: need to avoid sitting down right, walk around, stay active.
- 13:46Speaker 2: You're not pitching today, but in five days we need
- 13:49Speaker 2: to be better. So I was standing at the card
- 13:51Speaker 2: table playing cards right not sitting down, doing what the
- 13:54Speaker 2: trainer said, had already done all my treatment. He walks by,
- 13:57Speaker 2: he looks, I mean, he had like three or four
- 13:59Speaker 2: more years of service, and he had straight to the
- 14:01Speaker 2: train room. Was like, hey, is Gibson supposed to be
- 14:04Speaker 2: playing cards on the day that he's missing his start
- 14:05Speaker 2: right now? And I just so happened to walk in
- 14:08Speaker 2: and heard the conversation. I said, Hey, we have an
- 14:10Speaker 2: issue right now because I'm doing exactly what the trainers
- 14:12Speaker 2: are tell me to do, standing up, and I'm doing
- 14:14Speaker 2: my stuff for today. The next couple weeks weren't exactly
- 14:19Speaker 2: cordial with me and that player. And our daughters got
- 14:23Speaker 2: along like our wives got along. It wasn't like it
- 14:26Speaker 2: was a a bad relationship, but just for a couple
- 14:29Speaker 2: of weeks. He was upset that the bullpen was having
- 14:31Speaker 2: to cover nine innings that day because he was a reliever,
- 14:33Speaker 2: and I was the young player who appeared to not
- 14:37Speaker 2: care about that.
- 14:38Speaker 3: So every now and then it happens.
- 14:41Speaker 1: It's like a family, you know, you fight with your
- 14:43Speaker 1: uncle or your cousin next thing you know, you're at
- 14:45Speaker 1: the dinner table for a holiday. Everything's okay. You are
- 14:49Speaker 1: watching Cardinal Territory on the foul Territory platform.
- 14:58Speaker 5: I personally am so excited to watch the WBC that's
- 15:02Speaker 5: coming up. Talk about wanting to get out of the house.
- 15:04Speaker 5: Needing has something to do. You need a gift idea.

- 16:30Speaker 1: Was that holiday reading at the top or was that you?
- 16:33Speaker 1: I couldn't tell.
- 16:35Speaker 4: That was you? Okay, gotta find job. You just find job,
- 16:40Speaker 4: all right?
- 16:41Speaker 1: Some Cardinal talk and I don't want to get this
- 16:43Speaker 1: doesn't really matter, because it does because baseball matters and
- 16:47Speaker 1: the Sea. The regular season is fast approaching, and there's
- 16:52Speaker 1: some issues with the Cardinals that I wanted your take on.
- 16:56Speaker 1: And one of them is interesting because I think they
- 16:59Speaker 1: have a lot of talent in the bullpen. I think
- 17:01Speaker 1: that's going to be a strong suit for this squad.
- 17:04Speaker 1: But Ali is reluctant. Him is reluctant to name a closer.
- 17:08Speaker 4: You got.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Jojo Romero could be the guy. Riley O'Brien could be
- 17:13Speaker 1: the guy. Matt Sponson could be the guy. All these
- 17:16Speaker 1: guys have like really impressive numbers and really good stuff.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I kind of like Sponson because he's one of these
- 17:23Speaker 1: guys that didn't turn into a closer. He's been closing
- 17:28Speaker 1: since the minor leagues. My question to you, Kyle Gibson,
- 17:32Speaker 1: as a veteran with lots of pitching experience, does it
- 17:36Speaker 1: matter if you don't name a closer before the season starts,
- 17:40Speaker 1: especially when we're you're rebuilding.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I think it matters that you have conversations with those
- 17:47Speaker 2: three players, assuming that those three are kind of like
- 17:50Speaker 2: your seven, eight nine guys, and I think how Alli
- 17:54Speaker 2: communicates those roles is important. JoJo's a routine guy who
- 17:59Speaker 2: likes to get stuff done before the game and is
- 18:03Speaker 2: very well aware when he's hot and ready for that game.
- 18:07Speaker 2: You know, Riley I was with him through the year,
- 18:09Speaker 2: but he was rehabbing in twenty twenty four, so he
- 18:11Speaker 2: seems pretty laid back and maybe not as you know,
- 18:15Speaker 2: intense on that routine, that schedule and Swans I don't
- 18:18Speaker 2: know at all, But I think you just want to
- 18:20Speaker 2: communicate with those guys and say, hey, all three of
- 18:23Speaker 2: you guys are closer potential. We plan on giving all
- 18:28Speaker 2: of you opportunities. And I think that's a benefit to have.
- 18:31Speaker 2: You know, that's a luxury. Any given night, you have
- 18:35Speaker 2: three guys who you believe can get the last three outs,
- 18:38Speaker 2: and it allows you to not run any one of
- 18:41Speaker 2: those three guys into the ground, and it allows you
- 18:43Speaker 2: to really have the flexibility to say, swonsin, you've thrown
- 18:47Speaker 2: two out of three, we don't want to throw three
- 18:49Speaker 2: out of four. You can take to night off. Jojo
- 18:52Speaker 2: and Riley got it, and it's sort of, you know,
- 18:55Speaker 2: same thing for all three of those guys. So I
- 18:58Speaker 2: think it's a luxury, and I would have to imagine
- 19:02Speaker 2: that those conversations with Alie and those three players have happened.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Who do I believe is up first for a save?
- 19:10Speaker 2: Probably Jojo on opening day? That's gonna be the guy.
- 19:15Speaker 2: You know, just tenure led the team and saves. But
- 19:18Speaker 2: I think you know, on that graphic you're looking at
- 19:20Speaker 2: eight and six, it's not like he was a twenty
- 19:22Speaker 2: five or thirty saved guy. Versus you know five, I
- 19:25Speaker 2: think those guys are They're all going to get opportunities
- 19:28Speaker 2: as they should. Very quality big league arms, all have
- 19:31Speaker 2: swinging miss stuff, can get righty's and lefties out both
- 19:36Speaker 2: and I think that's why it's going to be a
- 19:37Speaker 2: strength to this team.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Again, Yeah, they were all really good and all you know,
- 19:44Speaker 1: to me a good choice if you say this guy's
- 19:48Speaker 1: gonna close out the game, all them have really good stuff.
- 19:51Speaker 1: All right, here's another question for you. A lot of
- 19:53Speaker 1: young guys in the mix, a lot of you know,
- 19:56Speaker 1: a lot of players want to get themselves on track.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Right they're they're gonna have run Gorman Walker.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I think Victor Scott the second needs to show more offense.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Of all the guys in the mix.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Right now, we don't know the final roster, but we
- 20:10Speaker 1: have a pretty good idea by this by this point,
- 20:13Speaker 1: who's the guy that's gonna take the biggest leap forward
- 20:16Speaker 1: this year? Could be a picture, could be one of
- 20:19Speaker 1: the guys I mentioned. And you're a smart guy, and
- 20:22Speaker 1: you're gonna say it doesn't. Yes, it matters because baseball.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Here you are assuming my answer again, you know that's
- 20:29Speaker 2: really what I what really just you know gets me
- 20:32Speaker 2: going a little bit is when you assume the answer
- 20:35Speaker 2: that I'm.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Gonna give.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Man a little biased toward pitching. I'm gonna start with
- 20:43Speaker 2: a couple of these young pitchers. I don't think Libby
- 20:47Speaker 2: needs to prove much more. I think Libby has shown
- 20:51Speaker 2: what he's capable of, and you give him a full
- 20:53Speaker 2: season of health and you know, take the reins off
- 20:56Speaker 2: and let him go throw six seven nies every time.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I don't think that's a big step forward. I think
- 21:01Speaker 2: that's just him developing a little bit more. I think
- 21:05Speaker 2: McGreevy is a really interesting arm that I think could
- 21:11Speaker 2: take a step forward. I think in the age where
- 21:15Speaker 2: especially if you have a good pitching department like the
- 21:18Speaker 2: Cardinals do, and you have the ability to gain plan
- 21:21Speaker 2: and you have the ability to work the line and
- 21:23Speaker 2: pitch and not just out stuffed people. McGreevey has great stuff,
- 21:26Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, But he can pitch. He can
- 21:28Speaker 2: move the ball side to side on the plate, up
- 21:31Speaker 2: and down, and I think that's an art that's kind
- 21:32Speaker 2: of coming back a little bit in starters. So I
- 21:36Speaker 2: look for him to kind of take that step. I
- 21:38Speaker 2: think there's another young arm, whether it's Quinn Matthews. You know,
- 21:42Speaker 2: I don't know one of these guys we've traded for.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I think, you know, those guys could be interesting cases
- 21:49Speaker 2: to make a step forward. But if we're just going
- 21:51Speaker 2: to go a guy on the Cardinals that I probably
- 21:53Speaker 2: know the most about and have high expectations for.
- 21:57Speaker 3: I think that step forward is McGreevy.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Offensively, I think for the for the health of the
- 22:04Speaker 2: Cardinals going forward as an organization. And I said this
- 22:07Speaker 2: in twenty toy four as well. I think there's a
- 22:10Speaker 2: lot of pressure on Jordan Walker and Nolan Gorman.
- 22:13Speaker 3: And those guys to take that next step.
- 22:15Speaker 2: And I kind of thought with Lance and toy toy
- 22:18Speaker 2: four that the Cardinals or the Cardinals are gonna kind
- 22:21Speaker 2: of go how those guys go until they decide to
- 22:23Speaker 2: replace them. So I hope for the sake of this
- 22:27Speaker 2: team and for the offense, that Walker and Gorman both
- 22:31Speaker 2: take that step forward and make that leap to kind
- 22:34Speaker 2: of solidify who they are, because I think it'll be
- 22:36Speaker 2: really really big for this team and it'll really stabilize
- 22:39Speaker 2: the middle of that order that I think could probably
- 22:42Speaker 2: use a little bit more thump with some of the
- 22:45Speaker 2: unknowns surrounding some of the players like Burley's got extra
- 22:49Speaker 2: base hit thump, but maybe not the thirty to forty.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Homer thump that Gorman could have. So I think Gorman and.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Walker could really add some slug to the middle of
- 22:58Speaker 2: this lineup. And you take a team that everybody's counting
- 23:03Speaker 2: out and put them as a team that, hey, if
- 23:06Speaker 2: we pitch and have a good back into the bullpen
- 23:07Speaker 2: and these couple of guys take a step forward. Now
- 23:10Speaker 2: all of a sudden, you're looking at a wildcard team.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Possibly that is really challenging people.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I think both those guys have done it before, certainly
- 23:19Speaker 1: capable to find it again.
- 23:20Speaker 4: I'm with you.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna throw out mine it and then we'll move
- 23:23Speaker 1: on to the final thing. I just like Kyle Lahey
- 23:28Speaker 1: great out of the pen. They're stretching them out to
- 23:30Speaker 1: CV can start and just watching him his repertoire, his
- 23:35Speaker 1: mound presence, and the fact that he wants the ball.
- 23:38Speaker 4: Now.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Granted he hasn't compiled a ton of innings because he
- 23:41Speaker 1: him been a starter, but that guy would throw three
- 23:44Speaker 1: days in a row if you want, He'd throw four
- 23:46Speaker 1: or five days in a row. Because he said whenever
- 23:49Speaker 1: they say you can have the ball, I'm gonna snatch it.
- 23:52Speaker 1: And I think that's the right attitude. I think his
- 23:54Speaker 1: stuff is good enough where it'll play as a starter.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Yes my thought.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I agree.
- 23:59Speaker 2: His stuff is really good, so was really good late
- 24:02Speaker 2: life to it. And he's got this kind of even
- 24:05Speaker 2: keel mindset where he can, you know, weather a little
- 24:08Speaker 2: bit of a storm here and there, has stuff to
- 24:09Speaker 2: get out of a jam.
- 24:11Speaker 3: So I agree. I think he's somebody that you know.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Once again, I think pitching is hopefully going to be
- 24:17Speaker 2: another strength of this team and it's going to keep
- 24:19Speaker 2: you in a lot of ball games.
- 24:20Speaker 3: And I think Coley's gonna be one of those guys
- 24:22Speaker 3: that does that.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's up to the rotation to solidify.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I think that's the key, all right. Last thing, we
- 24:28Speaker 1: just had the Colt Long and Cardinal territory this week.
- 24:32Speaker 1: He was back as an instructor and the Cardinals are
- 24:34Speaker 1: big on that. I know a lot of teams do
- 24:36Speaker 1: that too, but what does that, in your opinion, do
- 24:39Speaker 1: to have veteran players come back and and kind of
- 24:43Speaker 1: share the wealth, share their knowledge with the younger players. Again,
- 24:47Speaker 1: the Cardinals do a lot of that, what is the
- 24:50Speaker 1: upside for young players just to be around that.
- 24:55Speaker 2: I think Colton is a perfect you know, player assistant
- 25:01Speaker 2: to come in. You know, he's a guy that has
- 25:04Speaker 2: gone through a lot of different adversity and in his career,
- 25:07Speaker 2: you know, overcoming certain things, changing teams, traded, just a
- 25:12Speaker 2: lot of things happen, right, and being able to speak
- 25:14Speaker 2: to all that is can be really helpful for for
- 25:17Speaker 2: certain players you know that are especially young in their career. So,
- 25:20Speaker 2: you know, I think everybody has a story to tell.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Everybody has different things that work for them, things that didn't.
- 25:28Speaker 2: And I think you know a lot of teams utilize
- 25:30Speaker 2: that utilize that aspect of their organization and utilize that
- 25:33Speaker 2: aspect of their alumni and and trying to bring them
- 25:36Speaker 2: into help. So you know, it's I think it's really
- 25:42Speaker 2: good because I also believe that a veteran presence.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Is really good.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Right, you know, there's going to be fans and people
- 25:48Speaker 2: are on talk ready to say, oh, what is a
- 25:49Speaker 2: big deal that Colton Wong's air. It's you know, it's
- 25:52Speaker 2: veteran leadership whatever that it's a thing or else.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Why would teams do this? You know, why?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Why is it important to have certain big league experience
- 26:01Speaker 2: on our coaching staff in certain positions because it just matters.
- 26:07Speaker 1: And you talk to Cole about his time with the Cardinals,
- 26:09Speaker 1: he gets like emotional. I mean, that guy loves the Cardinals. Kyle,
- 26:13Speaker 1: that's gonna do it. We got along pretty good on
- 26:15Speaker 1: this episode, and I appreciate that there was very little bickery,
- 26:19Speaker 1: very little you know, we did.
- 26:20Speaker 2: It was good And because you know, I'm when I
- 26:24Speaker 2: got back from vacation, I really kind of thought we
- 26:26Speaker 2: were gonna move past the asking for followers and subscribers.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Obviously we didn't today. We didn't have it today. So
- 26:32Speaker 2: since we didn't have it, I'm gonna go ahead and
- 26:33Speaker 2: throw out a selfless plug. Since you didn't do it,
- 26:36Speaker 2: somebody has to do it. The charity that that Adam,
- 26:39Speaker 2: Wayne Wright and I are a part of that Wayne
- 26:41Speaker 2: ran start as Big League Impact. Any Cardinals fans are
- 26:44Speaker 2: going to know about that. This year, we're doing for
- 26:46Speaker 2: the first time a March Madness Bracket challenge, So head
- 26:49Speaker 2: over to big League Impact dot org slash March Madness.
- 26:53Speaker 2: You can sign up do anywhere from one to five
- 26:55Speaker 2: hopefully maybe even more brackets and the Grand Prize winner.
- 26:59Speaker 2: We have no MLB players signed up right now. The
- 27:01Speaker 2: grand prize winner gets to pick and on field meet
- 27:04Speaker 2: and greet with one of those nine players at a
- 27:06Speaker 2: stadium of their choice that that player is playing in.
- 27:09Speaker 2: So if you want to follow the Cardinals to Yankee
- 27:12Speaker 2: Stadium or wherever they go and do a meet and
- 27:14Speaker 2: greet with one of those players that's on that list,
- 27:16Speaker 2: you can. It's gonna be a really cool thing. But
- 27:19Speaker 2: first time we've ever done a bracket challenge, So head
- 27:21Speaker 2: to big League Impact dot org slas March Madness sign up.
- 27:24Speaker 3: It's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 27:27Speaker 1: That group, Big League Impact does wonderful things, so everyone
- 27:30Speaker 1: get on board with that. And that wasn't a plug
- 27:33Speaker 1: that was helping others, So Kyli, I appreciate you. That's
- 27:37Speaker 1: gonna do it for this edition of Cardinal Territory. We'll
- 27:40Speaker 1: see you next time and hopefully that episode won't suck.
