Transcript
- 0:21Welcome to the PTT Music Podcast, where music meets purpose and sound delivers
- 0:27impact.
- 0:28I'm Jordan Sterling.
- 0:29And I'm Ava Brooks.
- 0:30As positive behavior specialists and passionate music advocates,
- 0:35we explore how intentional sound, authentic storytelling, and positive behavioral
- 0:40techniques can elevate your mindset, awaken confidence, and inspire meaningful
- 0:45growth every single day.
- 0:48Whether this is your very first episode or you've been with us from the beginning,
- 0:52we're thrilled you're here in this community.
- 0:54And Ava, speaking of daily momentum, I had such an energizing workout yesterday
- 0:59morning taking on that scenic hill trail behind the park with a twenty pound
- 1:03training pack.
- 1:04Reaching the top felt incredible.
- 1:07That's awesome, Jordan.
- 1:09Starting a Tuesday with an ambitious goal like that is such a great way to build
- 1:14momentum.
- 1:15It really set a clear, focused tone for the day.
- 1:18Though standing at the base looking up at that steep incline,
- 1:22it definitely felt like a massive climb ahead.
- 1:25You know, as positive behavior specialists, we look at perception and environment
- 1:30all the time.
- 1:31There's actually wonderful behavioral science behind how our minds evaluate steep
- 1:36goals.
- 1:36It goes right to how our surroundings and social support shape our mindset,
- 1:41right?
- 1:41Exactly.
- 1:42There's a landmark study from 2008 by Simone Schnall and her colleagues.
- 1:47They invited people to look up at a steep hill and estimate the slope.
- 1:51Some stood on their own, while others stood side by side with a supportive friend.
- 1:58And having that positive connection changed their perception?
- 2:01Remarkably so.
- 2:02When standing with a friend, participants perceived the hill as significantly less
- 2:07steep.
- 2:08And the closer and more supportive the friendship, the more manageable and inviting
- 2:13the path appeared.
- 2:14That's such a profound behavioral insight.
- 2:17Having positive support beside you literally reframes how your visual and cognitive
- 2:23systems measure possibility.
- 2:25Exactly.
- 2:26Our minds don't just evaluate tasks in isolation.
- 2:30They naturally calculate available resources and positive reinforcement.
- 2:34It aligns beautifully with bioenergetic modeling and strengths based collaboration.
- 2:40Yes.
- 2:41Psychologist Dr.
- 2:42James Coan highlights this through Social Baseline Theory.
- 2:46In modern culture, we often celebrate going it alone.
- 2:50But in behavioral neuroscience, our natural baseline for optimal functioning is
- 2:56positive connection with others.
- 2:58Interdependence and teamwork are built into our biology as the ideal state for
- 3:03flourishing.
- 3:04That's it.
- 3:04Coan shows that when we operate within an uplifting community,
- 3:09our nervous system conserves energy.
- 3:12We feel calm, centered, and fully capable of performing at our best because we know
- 3:18support is all around us.
- 3:21That offers such an empowering perspective on resilience.
- 3:25Coan explored this in brain imaging studies showing how supportive touch and
- 3:29presence soothe our stress response, didn't he?
- 3:32He did.
- 3:33In functional MRI studies, when participants held the hand of a trusted partner
- 3:37during a challenging situation, their brains responded with immediate calm and
- 3:42reassurance.
- 3:43And rather than having to force self control through sheer strain,
- 3:48their natural state was simply settled and peaceful.
- 3:52Exactly.
- 3:53The brain effortlessly registers the presence of someone we care about as shared
- 3:58strength.
- 3:59Challenge naturally transforms into confidence.
- 4:02That's why positive behavioral intervention always emphasizes building supportive,
- 4:07collaborative environments.
- 4:09In creative projects, inviting colleagues into the process early multiplies our
- 4:13clarity and joy.
- 4:14It shifts the entire experience from solitary effort into shared celebration.
- 4:20Yes, because positive reinforcement and collaboration fuel creativity.
- 4:26Complex arrangements and songwriting challenges become joyful explorations when you
- 4:31share ideas with people who believe in your vision.
- 4:33And behavioral science points to an inspiring distinction here between casual
- 4:38companionship and authentic load sharing.
- 4:43How do positive behavioral techniques harness true load sharing?
- 4:47True load sharing flourishes in an environment of high trust,
- 4:51safety, and mutual encouragement.
- 4:54When team members consistently validate and uplift one another,
- 4:58their mental resources merge into a collective well of optimism and endurance.
- 5:04Because every person knows their contributions are valued and celebrated.
- 5:09Absolutely.
- 5:10Your mind expands to embrace the community as a fountain of shared strength.
- 5:15You don't just divide work.
- 5:18You multiply inspiration and possibilities.
- 5:22That's why sound and music are such vital tools in positive behavior support.
- 5:27Take empowering releases like "On My Way" and "Got My Step."
- 5:31The bright rhythms and uplifting harmonies immediately prime the brain for optimism
- 5:36and belonging.
- 5:37They act as powerful positive cues.
- 5:40When you listen to "On My Way," you immediately feel that purposeful forward motion,
- 5:46and putting on "Got My Step" reinforces that upbeat rhythm and self assurance in
- 5:51your daily walk.
- 5:52It really does.
- 5:54Music reminds us that we're created to thrive in community.
- 5:58Uplifting, purpose driven sound stimulates confidence, focus,
- 6:03and a sense of shared purpose.
- 6:05Which brings us to a wonderful positive behavioral technique we can apply every day.
- 6:11When facing a big goal or starting a brand new venture...
- 6:14Celebrate how far you've come and invite positive allies into your circle.
- 6:19Perfectly said.
- 6:21Focus on your strengths, and invite a mentor, friend, or teammate to share the
- 6:25journey.
- 6:26A collaborative thirty minute brainstorm, sharing a milestone,
- 6:30or exchanging encouraging words creates that shared baseline.
- 6:35Together, we naturally make the path feel joyful and smooth.
- 6:39Well, tomorrow morning on the trail, let's enjoy that hill together and take in the
- 6:44view from the top.
- 6:45I love that plan.
