- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: What's up guys?
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Guy here, 49ers 3 and 0, a lot coming up on the show today.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Brock Perti is playing out of his mind.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans got hurt.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: How can the 49ers survive that?
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: Can they survive that?
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: The defense is historic.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what this defense is facing is historic.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll get to that a lot of stuff to squeeze in, three and oh teams, there's now five of them, the Niners, the Vikings, who they'll play, the Chiefs who they'll play, Buffalo and Vegas, and Buffalo and Kansas City, they're gonna play next week.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll take some of the middle coffees, like with AFC supremacy on the line.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I don't think there's any doubt right now now that we've had three weeks, two weeks post Australia for all of the complaining and the consternation and maybe we'll feel differently at the end of the year, but I'd rather have the Niners return to America than the Rams return to America.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was all the say, oh, the Rams get money and I football and I said this last week.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: I would rather play at home on Sunday than have just weird weeks, Sunday night football, the next week, just a different week on the road in Denver.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: Takes a lot out of you.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: So the ramps lose in Denver, they're one and two, and I know the numbers play Denver this week, and then they don't have back to back home games the rest of the year.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: But they do have one game at the chargers, so you get the so-fi game back.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: The ram, she's like, oh, well, the ram's, they're scheduled so much better.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: They got the extra day of rest coming back from Australia.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't, I said this last week, you don't need the extra day.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to play Monday night in week two.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: You had eight days between return Friday and the following Sunday.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't think, and I said it, I didn't think the ram's had an advantage last week.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd rather be home if I'm the ladders this week than in Denver.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: and playing the cardinals, playing Miami, then playing Denver on the road this week, and proved to be right.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: And now you add to it what we're seeing, these injuries, you don't want to be flying home, flying all over the place, short week, short week last week, short-ish week this week on the road.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: So like, there was a lot of complaining about the trip from, you know, just whatever.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: the return.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, well, this, you know, you got so many road games later in the year.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: I know, but you know what, given all the injuries, having three straight home games here when you come back at three and all with a chance to be forno, it's a blessing for the 49.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'll deal with later later.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Hell, maybe, maybe you'll be, maybe both will be back and Mike, we don't know what the Mike Evans situation is, but, um, like he couldn't breathe, watching him, but I'll get to that.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, the ram schedule is not, it's not like they don't have three home games or I'll come up later in the air.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Do the rams get back to back home games later in the air?
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, once weeks 12 and 13, they're coming off their buy.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: And if that sounds okay to you, consider this.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: The week 12 game is a Wednesday Christmas day game against Green Bay.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then, I guess they get a little extra rest.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: They play a Thursday Kansas City game at home the following week, the week after Christmas.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, they benefit.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Kansas City will have played four days before against the Niners.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: So that's a good thing for the Rams, that Kansas City just played the Niners.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: Just we know, it's going to be a physical knock-down drag-out blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: But, I mean, I would not take the Rams schedule,
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: Return from Australia, these three games, and trade it for what they have later in the year.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: No, thank you.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: No, thank you.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I think we can put that away completely.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: Put that away completely.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I guess one of the questions is, before I get to Brock Perti and the Mike have and just the injuries, it's hard to even keep track all these injuries.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: But one of the questions is, will the $40 defense be alive for the end of this season?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: When I say historic, I mean historic, I counted it up today.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: They've had eight drives in three games, that honors the events, eight drives, where they've been on the field for at least 12 plays.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: There were, I think, four of them on Sunday against Arizona, where it was 10 or more.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: So they've been on the field a lot.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think they had something like, they had 90 plus tackles.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: in the game against the cartels and the cartels are physical so the like the cartels have big guys it's clear when you see it on film like they have big guys they're physical so night tackles is a lot of tackles it's a it's just where's you out thank god you're not on a plane after this game your home the cowboys in the bills are second in the NFL defensively having faced five drives of 12 plays or more so then I just
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: by far the 8th of 12 players or more.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers, and I asked Josh to bow to the associate press.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, can you look this up?
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: Because he's a wizard with the system called Sport Radar, where you can get all kinds of research.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers are the second team since 2000 to have eight defensive drives through three games.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: that are 12 plays or more.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: 2021 Seattle is the other.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, we acknowledge before we talk about how good Brock Perti is playing in some of the positives.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: I felt kind of gut punched a few times.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: The Mike Evans injury for sure, you're really coming off the Nick Bosa.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: They got multiple, two guys making their NFL debuts and it's not like guys that they do.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: Multiple guys, think about this.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Multiple guys on defense on the defensive line for the Niners today too.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that's multiple.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Sebastian Voldes and Viliami Fajoco.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: making their NFL debuts and they're not technically, you know, they're not rookies.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's, so in other words, like, guys who've been on practice squad, debuted for the two of them, the same game on the defensive line, week three, and Grace and Halton got a kind of, not a concussion, a cramp today, defensive tackle.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Of course he did.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: on why interview him on the post game show.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: He played I think I think the first the early past the numbers was 67 snaps.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, what a take today and he said, everything I have.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: I almost ran out of gas.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: I've never, I don't think I've played that much.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: Dre Greenlow the quad injury.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: That'll be another big one to find out.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Can he, will he be okay to go against Denver this week?
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know,
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you right now.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: George Kittle wanted to scored two touchdowns on his Bobblehead day with Tray McBride on the other side line.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Tray McBride, he's kind of the, he's kind of the new it girl when it comes to tight ends rightfully.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: Enter the game with the most catches among tight ends had a third, he was third in the league in catches, total and he bung anybody coming into the game.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: and George Kiddler had a great game.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's Drake Greenlaw next week against Denver.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Drake Greenlaw, there is no question wants to stick at the Sean Payton, Mike McDonald's.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: I guess would be happy about that.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: We don't want to play, so it'll be a big deal.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: This team, the way this defense is going through feeds right into some comments about Brock Perti, but clearly,
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: The best recipe right now is going to be score 10 points, play from in front, and prevent this defense from being in a situation where the other team can just pound them with the ball.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: Just hand off after, hand off after, hand off after, hand off, chair of my love 21 carries today.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's 36 points.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, Niners are second in the NFL and points for game now behind Buffalo, both teams have scored 13 touchdowns, the 49ers, the bills have scored 13 touchdowns, you know, I'll give you a gas as Josh Allen and F.P.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: Candidate, of course.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: So what does that mean for the other team that scored 13 touchdowns?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, Brock's the one more touchdowns, Brock pretty tied with give you I'm going to count three give you a hint trivia question three who's he tied with league league three to one Kirk cousins tied with Kirk cousins for the NFL lead with a nine touchdown or yet nine touchdown passes.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, just
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: just ridiculous things the offense has to do and the good news is they're up for it.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: The question is, what can they stay up for it with the Mike given's injury?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we'll forward get to that and, and Brock, I do want to remind you that the show was brought to you by my wonderful sponsors, Plesto.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: Mechano Moderna, I got a message from a listener named Barrett today who sent me a picture from in front of the Puesto stand section 1116.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to the liner game, another home game, another chance to go try those barbecue short ribs.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: He said, they were awesome.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: You get the barbecue short rib, nachos, or the chicken nachos with the polio fair day.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: Or you can get those either meat option as a taco, the chicken very day.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: Taco, the short rib.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: I had the short rib a couple weeks ago.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's fantastic.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's also got the classic guacamole, the classic nachos, if you don't want to meet.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: So go see Puesto.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you to the Adler Brothers for supporting the show.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: And the substation does not affect the quality of the Puesto food at the stadium.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: So go check it out.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're not going to the stadium, two locations in the Bay Area and Southern California as well.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: And thanks to Volvo Cars Marin, I was cruising.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: down to the game today and back home safely.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: The audio system, the quiet, it's what I need after a game is just the quiet and that car, the Volvo is so quiet.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: So thanks to Matt Gordon, thanks to my guy Mauricio, the whole family, Volvo cars, Marin, they treated me and my family great.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: They'll do the same for you, used, or a new Volvo, go see Volvo cars, Marin.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we got it to, I was going to talk about Brock here, but I think it's just, we got to talk about my Kevin's.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: This is the most significant injury the 49ers have suffered.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: Now, should we be shocked?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think you come into the year you go, what am I going to play?
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: Eight games last year, I think everybody expected 17 games.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a tough ask.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: The problem is watching them walk off the field really struggling to breathe.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: Struggling don't get off of the field.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was watching through the binoculars.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: He had to stop multiple times, they, the TV was right on him.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: He had to stop multiple times, so you just see it and you go like, oh God, is that broken?
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a, is there so much, it's like a bleak tear, is there a long puncture, right?
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like watching him breathe was you just on a human level, we've all been there and just felt so bad for him.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: And the concern is, part of the reason it's concerning,
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: Or the most concern to me is because of how good he's looked.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: I did a video in the offseason with Tedwin, and we talked about Mike Evans, and one of the things he said, he said he's like the Frank Gore of receivers, right?
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: The thousand yard streak, and that came to an end last year, and he's just, you know, almost like
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: It was taking us like all these just a compiler.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: I knew it would be taken.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a backhand accomplishment.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think Frank Orr is a Hall of Famer.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: But I've said a few times every player on the team when they talk about Mike Evans, like Future Hall of Famer, Future Hall of Famer.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I've been like,
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see where the, let's, it's hard for receivers, it's such a stacked position when it comes to guys that's still learning in the Hall of Fame.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just kind of see, you know, I look at his numbers and I look at his numbers and I look at his numbers and I look at his numbers and you know, you won't see them over the years.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll throw all that out the window.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: I take all that back.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: All the questions, no, I wasn't saying, no, never, I'm staunchly against Mike Evans and the Hall of Famer.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: I was just saying, let's see it all, let's just see it all when it's all said and done.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: Tell that guy, guy, he can shut up and take that take with him.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my God, I'm embarrassed to say, and it's not that I didn't know Mike Evans was excellent.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm embarrassed to say, I thought I didn't watch my evidence.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't understand how good he was.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like I knew he was excellent.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: I knew he was one of the best receivers in the NFL.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: I knew all of that.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: And still I didn't, he's all a favor.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, he looked like that's what just got hurt.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: I know Nick Bosa got hurt and Trent Williams, hopefully the stinger, you know, hope he's gonna come back from that.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why I don't put him on this list.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: But the Mike Evans injuries, to me it's not just a devastating like a production standpoint.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: I still think you can manufacture points.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: I still think they can score a lot.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: But it's got a chance to be extraordinary with my Evans.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: Extraordinary.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't he he finally had a catch today that wasn't the first anniversary touch yet And it was the two yard catch on the hook and latter go watch that play again I watched it again when I got home Here's what I didn't realize about it live or even a couple of the replays that I saw Mike Evans is is getting hit as he flips that ball to Debo Samuel
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: I, there have been over the years, a number of, you know, guys who had great careers elsewhere that came and finished with the 49ers, some are memorable, some are not, you know, you think like Randy Moss, I would be heartbroken if I was a Tampa Bay book and years
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not just the deep balls, and it's not just the fade balls, I think Tim Ryan, my broadcast partner on radio said it well, because I said the touchdown that he caught today where he didn't move his hands above his hips until the last second.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: I says the greatest touchdown catch I've ever seen for the receiver had his hands hip level.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: The throw from Brock Perti.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: My job was on the floor.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: The throw in the catch.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: My job was on the floor.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: I was in disbelief that those two guys executed that.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, they are such a combination, a devastating combination.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: But what I was going to say is Tim Ryan said on the area.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: He said something like, I think he said, calm hands and cool eyes.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: In other words, his hands didn't give it away to the defensive backdance I'll burq.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: Was it Burke?
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: That the ball was coming.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: He said I bet as Tim said I bet his eyes didn't either.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the second week in a row that Brock Perti has made a play and Evans has been just as responsible, especially on this one.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: But it's the second week in a row where Perti's made a play where you go, you can just clip that one off for the MVP highlight campaign.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, how long is Mike Evans out?
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: We'll say, I don't know.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, Kyle will talk on Monday afternoon, and we'll find out.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: But the reason it hurts is because you've just seen the possibilities.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Put him at Givm the Gold Jacket and please let it be a Gold Jacket that heals a rib, because it's a gift.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want 80, but I just like, it's a gift.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: to watch Mike Evans play and maybe injury keeps him out and maybe there'll be more injuries there've already been a couple and maybe in the long run when the season's all set and done, the box will be like, they see that's why, but he's not even that expensive this year, but maybe the box will be like, say, that's why we just couldn't do all that again.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how you can watch my Kevin to play football, healthy, and let him leave your baby.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in awe, truly in awe of my Kevin's, and this feels worse to me than the Nick post injury, and the Nick post injury is bad because the drop off, it's on defense, where you could argue you need him even more than you need my Kevin to an offense.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, could use both of those guys, those are championship level players, and they'll both be back at some point, hopefully, again, that hopefully soon, but this is why today's game, this is where the the cardinal game on Sunday, it's why it was so critical.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: You had the win it, and then I got weird.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: I never actually thought they were going to lose, but it just got so weird that at one
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: him.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, no, I don't think they're going to lose.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: But if you lose Evans and at that time, you know, we hadn't had the update that Trent Williams was a stinger and and you lose this game, it's going to feel so much worse than two and one to this team is going to feel awful and really, and it's his credit kill set it.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like you could see him thinking about it on his touchdown catch at the end of the game that made it.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: 36, 26, Cardinals read a timeout.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's just go down at the two-year line games over.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: As it turned out, Debo's good on a good on an on-site kick and he caught the on-site ball, but if somehow the Cardinals had pulled that off,
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'd be spent a lot of times talking about kind of bad clock management there from the 49ers.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, on the hook and ladder, and there's always this big debate.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: Did you go hook and ladder?
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: Do you go hook and ladder all?
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hitch and pitch, another one.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: The first thing I think of, I probably the first thing a lot of people think of is Boise State, I don't know if a lot of people think of it, but what you really think of when you think a hook and ladder is desperation,
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, you're in disbelief when you pull out a hook and ladder like in your mind, you go, that is when you have no other options.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: But the truth is, and I think everyone's, I mean, the play was perfect.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: And the execution was perfect and seeing Debo run like 21 or 22 miles narrowed on the sideline was awesome.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I just, I've got a lot of confidence now as the years go on more and more over year in what I see in training camp.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: And this year, it's just like, you know, the more you watch it, the less you need to see a lot of it.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I said it in training camp.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about what I said about Brock.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: Deepo, for the same, I was like, I saw it.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, yeah, I'm good.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's gonna be good.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: I went back and watched something from last year.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: Saw him how he worked.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: Just how he was moving.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Deepo's gonna be good.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: And to see him run down the side of the side, he hasn't lost a step.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's just that's Debo with the ball that he's fast as hell But here's the thing about that play people are reacting to that play As great as it was I wanted to say it wasn't great because it was and it was I it's such a swaggy call from Shanna Han And even Kyle after the game was asked about it.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: You could tell people kind of in Disbelief like it teams run that play the the 49ers run that play in
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: regular game situations in spots like just like that and it is normal it is normal for that play to not really get practiced for them to just try it out and walk through
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think you put it a bunch of those plays in training camp.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: And then you just carry him with you week to week.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then you just refresh once or twice in the walk through setting during the week.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty normal.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: I texted a quarterback coach on another team and I said, is it weird that the 49ers didn't practice this play and what I just told you is the answer he gave me.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you set a few things up.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: you were fresh him ever, you carry him with you every week, you were fresh him and the understanding is like, we might use it in this spot or that spot, but it's not just an end of game desperation thing.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: So it was a great call from Kyle.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: It was great execution, but it's not, you know, you hear hook and ladder and you think this guy just ran this crazy play that no one runs in game and it's just not true.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like, teams do run it in the NFL,
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you get one every week.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't probably not every week, but you've seen it.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: If you watch, you've seen it.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: College teams run it, especially teams who run Shannon's stuff, but college teams run it.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: So, but that said, it went to the house for 80 yards.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, it was a shocking,
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: there was a shocking play.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to see Brock pretty throw an eighty three out touchdown pass to wipe this off the books because this goes down as an eighty two yard touchdown pass, which is the longest of his career.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it is kind of kind of bullshit.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: But it was a sweet play.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was great.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if Evans is down, I think goodness there were Jordan Watkins stepped up in a big
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, a 34-year-old catch of 26-year-old catch for him, we said this is...
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: I know some would debate this make or break the reason I still was make or break because Brandon cooks it's a matter of time before he's ready to roll and then you're going to have these roster decisions to make again well you know what it turned out maybe it was made if it was make or break it doesn't matter because now with the Evans injury if he's not back next week, Watkins and Brandon cooks if he's ready and the better
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: The last preseason game against the Raiders, it felt to me like they were really trying hard to get him going.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: It was probably too late to get somebody to like him enough to trade for him because I was the other thing.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like are they showc- are they trying to make Jordan Watkins look good?
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: They were feeding him in that Raider game.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: Are they trying to make him look good so they can trade him?
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it felt like.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: But it was, you know, they didn't trade him.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: They were trying to get him going.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: But he made some mistakes in the preseason.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: And Kalshana had said it, you've heard the clip, he said, hey, he came to me and that's what can he do.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: And a couple of weeks ago, I said, be ready, you know, whatever, he was ready today.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: He had some drops.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's had some been in the wrong place thing, not on Sunday.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: He had to huge.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: plays.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: And he looked today like the guy who is a better receiver, I think than Jacob Cowling.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought Cowling had a good training camp and Cowling's so valuable because he returns punch.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: None of these other guys can be trusted to return.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: But if Jordan Watkins was as reliable as a punt returner, as Jordan Cow is Jacob Cowling, I don't think Jacob Cowling be on the field.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like I don't think he'd plan offense.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he'd be active.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: But Cowling is the only trusted punt returner on the team.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you got another guy, Codderington, a practice squad defensive back, who's a good returner.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: But it was lock-in, it's lock-in's job to have any muffled multiple punts in practice.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so he doesn't plan special teams and Coddero has just good on special teams.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: And so he had played his way off the roster.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now he's played his way back in.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: And there's the injury.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: has got to be coming, they need them, they just don't have receivers.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: Now the night is our unique team because you throw the ball at the tight end so much and you throw the ball running back, you know, kill a McAfrey combined for 10 catches against the Cardinals, but it's just crazy how Debo Samuel continues to move up the pecking order, you know, when they were thinking about signing him, which they were thinking
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: It was going to be, oh, god, I hope it don't forget somebody, but, you know, I Christian Kirk was already hurt by then, but maybe not actually because he, you know, it was going to be Evans and dribbling and Pierce All and Christian Kirk and, none of those guys are available now.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I said it 12 times, but we'll see on Evans.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: And so, Debo, it just keeps moving up the ladder, moving up the ladder, moving up the ladder, moving up the ladder, not that he had a catch day, he didn't, it is weird.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like the hook and ladder, I don't know.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like Debo should, if we're up to me, I think Debo should get a, that should be a running play.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's a two yard catch for Evans and then an 80 yard rush for Debo.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: It makes no sense.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's got 80 receiving yards in no receptions.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: doesn't make any sense.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, it's a lateral, so it's backwards.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: And a backwards pass is not a pass.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: So it's dumb that that's a reception.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing that's done by the way, the second half started with the Cardinals kick it off from what
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: What's dumb about it is, and a guarantees you, and it did give the 49ers the best field position on the game.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: But to me, what I would change, the coverage team and the blocking units, both line up in the same place they always line up.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you could argue, well, now you're going to double punish the team with the 15-year penalty.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: But so what happens is the kicker kicks the ball, and it goes to whatever, like the opposite 20 wherever Dibo got that today.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the coverage team is now like 10, 15 yards away from him.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: So Debo comes running up to catch this punt.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: Then I still like stop, because if he keeps running that fast, he's gonna get to the coverage team immediately.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't wanna do that yet.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: It just crowd in this weird.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now again, you could argue best starting field position of the game at that point for the 49ers.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: So they've benefited and, you know, that's true.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's hard to argue.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: Against Denver, I mean, you just watch them.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: They get after the quarterback.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: They got after Matthew Stafford, a ton on Sunday night.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: They are hunting for the football in the secondary.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: They are physical if you've,
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: Couple years, you know, I'm not the biggest bone next guy.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: And if you were watching the show last year You would know I wasn't a big drink may guy and I was not bullish on the Patriots at all this year
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: I looked at the Patriots in last year, and my take was coming in the year, that was their best shot.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: They're not getting that chance again.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Drake makes a good player.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it got a little, we got a little ahead of ourselves.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's, we love, and I'm not opposed to it because it's fun, and it's
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: you know it's part of them that one of the most fun things that sports is try to figure out which quarterbacks are we buying and which quarterbacks aren't we in doing it every year and I'm good with it I got no problem with it.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm always I'm almost always very hesitant on like first second third year guys we just see it all the time you do one thing the league adjust to you and we don't really know.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: In most cases, until like year four, you know, I cappernick, League of Justice, he didn't adjust.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: CJ Straud, they're only three for the second year and I know they made the playoffs last year.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: They scored 17 points today against the Colts.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's, you know, people turned on him a year ago.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: Drake May, six points against the Jags.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the Jags are good.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: The Jags were good last year.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: Liam Cohen,
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: is a star.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: There, oh, see people love their O.C.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: too.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, that I'm buying the jags.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: But some of these, some of these guys, it's just like, Bonax made some really nice plays on Sunday and I football.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I'm getting off track, but they're going to be a month.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: They are going to be a bear.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be a very difficult game.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: with Denver and that's just you knew that already is the way it's going to be very good offensive coach the Davis web trying to settle in is the offensive coordinator Sean Peyton good defense fans Joseph so like they got dudes so it's just going to be hard but now three weeks in the books and Brock pretty continues to look like a top tier MVP candidate
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if you're, if no one's gonna hesitate to say, and I know some people said this last week, like, ah, too soon, too soon.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: But it's, but it's not really about the award as the point.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's about, is, do we think he's a better player this year?
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: And the answer to that question, as you know, before the season started was unequivocally, yes.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I was continuing to look like it.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: He is so in control.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: He is throwing the ball with incredible accuracy.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, I mean that word incredible.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the most accurate he's been in his career.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: And he's been really accurate.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: That is not a completion percentage comment.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's an eyeball comment.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: I said it last week and I'm so glad I did to get ahead of it for this week.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: There's this debate.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: I want to play something that Kyle Shanahan said in a second, but there's this big pretty argument.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: And what I said last week was when you really talking about tier one quarterbacks, when you're trying to make the case that somebody's great, those arguments don't get one with stats, those arguments don't get one with efficiency numbers, EPA, those numbers get
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's just an undeniable thing that we see.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: They get one with great throws.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: They get one with comebacks.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: They get one with dominance, with wins, with championships, being on national television over and over and over again and beating people over the head with it.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's how those arguments get won when it becomes so obvious.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's undeniable.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: Which, you know what?
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: That should be the standard and the threshold if I'm going to say you're great.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm going to say you're great, if you're really great, then it should be undeniable.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: It should be obvious to everybody.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: We shouldn't need to argue about you.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, per day today, 1527.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: 55%
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he looked fantastic.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he looked like the same guy.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, I think really cool.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: When you look like the same guy, when you're 15 to 27, as you did when you were 20 to 22, last week, or whatever the number was against the ramps, he continues to just be so dialed in.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: You might say, well, the ball that the linebacker tipped, the play Mike Evans got hurt on,
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I couldn't intercepted that.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, he threw it out of his reach, he hit it.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: But he threw it too high for him to catch, which is the point.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: And Evans is tall and didn't jump, didn't try to catch the ball in the play because he was hurt badly.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: So what I saw today was just a continuation.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: almost every time.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's probably last two weeks left the pockets left the pocket once per game.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: We're like, oh, why is leaving the pocket there?
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought that week wanted to lead to the touchdown to Debo against the Rams.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: But he had a roll out last week.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think he needed.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: He had one that I didn't think he needed.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: But watching him from the press box from the broadcast booth where you can just see everything.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: it reminds me of all the NFL films videos we grow watching with the symphony music and the slow motion watching him in his offensive line they've not given up a sack they're the only team now three weeks they're the only team of the league that haven't that hasn't given up a sack um... watching those guys together it's it's like they know where the other is
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: 49ers have no sex allowed in three straight games.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: The first time since 1979, the last time they went for short games was 1965.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: But there's just such a poetry to where he is and how the offensive line is blocking for him.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty seems to be moving at the exact right moment.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the no-sex thing is not just an offensive line stat, in this case, it is an offensive line stat and together, it's a Brock party stat.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: He is running at the moment.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: He should run.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: He is throwing at the moment.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_01]: He should throw.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: He is throwing it away or moving to the checkdown or taking a chance.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: All of these things are happening at the right time.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a significant departure from, well, the offense is, is built for quarterbacks, or the Shanahan offense protects guys.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: Listen to, we don't often go back multiple days after a game in a reaction.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: But listen to what Kyle Shanahan said, he was, he does the weekly interview on NBC Sports Bay Area with Matt Mayoco.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: This is last Thursday they recorded this, I'm play this clip, I think it's important take a listen.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: Brock understands everything so much better.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's used to ask what his responsibility was and just go out and do it.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't need to know too much, but now after
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's faced everything.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's had leads.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's been behind.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's faced heavy blitzes.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's faced Ben, but don't break defenses.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's really done everything.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: We've gone through every scheme to tax-earned coverages.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: To where now, I think when you know exactly what the look is, you know, why we're doing it.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: and you're not just taking someone's word for it, I think you're just more confident.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: You can get off things faster.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know when you have the right thing, you can anticipate a little bit better.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: And the more your experience is, go with a stronger that gets.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's where Brock said now.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: But he's played as such a high level.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: We've been so lucky to have him since the beginning.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: So Brock used to benefit from Kyle's offense just like other quarter.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know, all quarterbacks do and now he's elevating it.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: We're seeing Brock pretty elevate the offense make plays where there's plays to be made.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's he's doing things.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: Beyond the headset right there are things Kyle Shannon can't do from the sideline Brock pretty is doing them and it's you know, I'm I I.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: We are seeing what I thought we would see what a lot of you know, we are seeing it.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: It looks special I think it's becoming less.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's becoming more obvious to me too, to everybody But it should look obvious.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to say you're a franchise quarterback.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: It should be obvious If it's not obvious, then it's a guy that eventually ain't good, but you know, you're trying to replace him for a minute It looked obvious with Steve J. Straud
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: and some people thought it was obvious with Drake May.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it to me it's never been obvious with bone X.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna get their chances.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna be the guys for a minute.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't mean they can't win a lot of games, but it's that is what Kyle just said.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: That is the heart of the question that everyone's been asking this year.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: Is he better?
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: How is he better?
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: How can we tell?
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: The numbers look kind of the same, mostly the same.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: So is he actually better was he already this good?
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now I think he's better.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's better, and it's exactly what Kyle said there.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: He is, you know, you could have 70% completion because you throw away the code tells you the throw, 68%, or you can have 68% because you make some plays.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: Not all 68% is created equal.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: Just like not, I mean, as an example, you know, there's a minute there where Brock and Tua were like, oh, Brock 70% amazing.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: And the efficiency number is amazing.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: Who's a cop form?
- 38:55[SPEAKER_01]: You go look at the membership, I go Tua.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: And like, oh, I don't know.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: Those numbers still hold up.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: Is that still a good argument?
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's good, right?
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, not, you can have the same numbers tell two different stories.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's all these variables.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think, you know, now the great numbers are telling a pretty special story, the throw, God, the throw of the heavens.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is the second week in a row now, right?
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a Josh Allen thing.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, God, every time I watch him, he does something that no one else is doing, a party, two weeks in a row, I'm like, oh my God, he just made a throw that is, whatever, however many throws are tier one throws, that is an absolute,
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: tier one, rip it incredible throw.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, the recipe without Bosa, can you keep scoring?
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: Without Mike Evans, if he's going to be out, can you keep scoring 32.7 points a game, second only Buffalo 33.7.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's clear they got to score Kirk Cousins and Brock each with nine touchdowns.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: That is a 51 touchdown pace.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: Gonna be hard to maintain.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_01]: Knowing
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: since 2018, and that was my homes.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: But it was a weird day for the 49ers.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: So weird, just because you feel like you win, I don't know about you, but from their perspective, I'm like, oh, it just feels the Evans injury.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: It was just like, I don't feel great.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: I know they won the game, but like,
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: and the seahawks lost in Washington, the Marcus Mariota, and then you come home and the rams lose, and you're like, shouldn't everything feel amazing?
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, it just feels so weird.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: But all of this is to go back to where this conversation started, which is just like respect for Brock, which the respect conversation doesn't interest me as much as the like, how good is he?
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: But this is, you know, he's getting put in the position that guys get put into some times when they prove their MVP winners, when you've got it, this isn't going right, and this isn't going right, and this team keeps winning.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if you've got a team that can run the ball at five yards of carry in the defense, holds the opponent to six points of game, a quarterback may not throw 45 touchdowns in my not throw for 300 yards, because it's really not the recipe.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: Throwing for three,
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: is not the recipe for winning a bunch of games.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: You got to go throw it for 340 yards.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you're 150, 50, you win the game.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe less, probably.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'd say, guys, the throw fruit.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've talked about this, I don't remember the stat, but I bet if you throw it for 340 yards, your team will lose us more than, I bet your team loses more than half the time.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: because you're playing from behind, it's just unsustainable, it's desperate, you win by running, there's this Kyle Shanahan stat, we're like, the record is whatever, whatever, right?
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'd make it up, I don't remember what it is.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: There's 25 and oh, or 50 and oh, or something stupid.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: When they get 30 carries, and I argue with people about it, because they're like, you know, just gotta get the 30 carries, and that guarantees a win.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle loves that stat.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: And like, no, no, no, they got the 30 carries,
- 42:20[SPEAKER_01]: because they're leading, and so they win.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: And because they can run the ball, the 30 carries works.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, you didn't throw for $340 that day.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: You generally don't throw for $340 that day.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's not the recipe, but this year, right now at least, the good news is, well, right now at least, they guys score.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: And the question, the biggest question right now is not, can they replace Bosa, it's, can they keep scoring without my cabins?
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: And now we're taking a major step up in the teams that they're playing.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: Defensively Denver and Seattle coming up next.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a big jump.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: Given all the injuries, beating Denver this week would feel like it changes the whole season.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: Can you four and all battling through all of it?
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: with a commander's coming in on Monday night and then you go to the falcons.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, even if you lose this game and you lose to Seattle, let's just say worst case in the next two weeks, but you can beat the commanders in the falcons.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: And you get to week eight, you get to the buy, you'd be five and two that feel pretty good with the Raiders coming in.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, ooh, the Raiders.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: The dominant Raiders.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, it was kind of, I did, I did see some of that.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: Watch some of that radio game today.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: But uh, which frame of the radio is I, a lot of those guys had like, no couple coaches on the staff like, root form in that way.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you guys know, there's always, there's always been this other rator guy, just lurking in the darkness.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: So, although there is a podcast called The 49ers Guy Now, which you can go check out.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: I gave you the stats on the 49ers defense.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: I will say this, this one's weird to say, because, you know, I haven't watched every quarter, every rookie in the NFL far from it.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't watched the jets really, so, I don't know if David Bailey was doing anything I know he's got a couple of sacks, but you're my love watching the Cardinals running back today.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's, what I'm about to say is really determined by how things play out behind him.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to lie totally about the judge.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: I did see Kenyan City's touchdown catch on Sunday, but I watch love on Sunday.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, that guy's really good.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_01]: And from a night perspective, kind of happy Arizona drafts at him.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be safe one, and even if he is, wouldn't the giant really win with safe one, it felt like that's a really good running back, and I'm not sure he changes the game enough to justify the third overall pick.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Now, there may not be, we'll see a game-changing pass rush or they could have drafted David Bailey when I had of it, not behind him.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: David Bailey went second.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there was not the quarterback.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they drafted Carson back later, but he's there the lockdown, Trent Williams tackle the pass rusher that you had to get.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I get it.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: But they're kind of a weird team.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think Michael the floor might be a pretty good coach.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_01]: Clearly people love, they grow all of us the defensive coordinator, Kyle respects him.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: But it just felt like I thought in person, you know, like you're getting a calfry, or you get in, say, Juan.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't feel like that.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so,
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good thing long-term for the 49ers, but he's a good player, I mean, he's a clearly a good player and, you know, could be good for a long time, but he's not, yeah, the Marvin Harrison thing.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: Watch you, Marvin Harrison, and I know Albert Brear talked this week about the potential of a Marvin Harrison trade, and he was on Boston radio, so he was talking about, you know,
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's a weird one.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: He had a couple catches in the game, watching him run routes, sometimes elite guys don't look, you know, like you can get fooled by guys who aren't as athletic because it looks like they're working harder and the elite guys don't quite look like they're, but the, the, and the routes just look kind of.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be kind of mad, like these are kind of soft, the routes.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like he made a couple of catches where he came back out of his break.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, oh, balls here.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: Weird, weird vibe, weird vibe.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, physical, they wanna, they play hard.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: They play hard.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now there's got killed, special teams changed the game, missed the two extra points, which almost cost them the fumble, it's called a moth, but it's not really, I mean it's not really but it's not really a fumble either, but there's been good on the special teams' game and today definitely was not one of those days, so, okay last thing, my crew covertired, Hall of Fame, Brightcaster, all time great dude, beloved by everybody,
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think when you're a public figure when you have a public figure and you meet a public figure as famous as him and who's on television as much as him and who's as well known as him and around as many people as him, you wonder like, is this guy on the other
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: Most people will tell you that was the magic of my crew, go, is that he was the same guy.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: And the guy he was was sweet and charismatic, and so funny, and fun-loving, and endearing,
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I don't know Mike, I've met him several times over the years, I don't think he could pick me out of a lineup, and none of those meetings he would remember.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: I have a lot of buddies who are broadcasters, a few of whom know him really well.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, I'd good interact great interactions with him, but I hear great stories from other people and stuff over the year, but like most everybody, I'm just a fan.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_01]: I grew up a humongous baseball fan.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: And we moved to Davis, which is, you know, not the barrier, but near in 1999.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_01]: My dad was in the air force and we moved around quite a bit and I was used to, you know, watching a listening to baseball wherever we lived.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: We were in San Antonio, before we came to California and before that we lived in Turkey and I'd watch Monday night football and I guess it would have been Tuesday mornings and I'd watch the big baseball games with a can of
- 49:57[SPEAKER_01]: and I'd cut out box scores and read everything I could and watch whatever they put on the Armed Forces network.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, when you bounce around a lot, you, there are some broadcasters you remember and some you don't.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: What I do, Greg Poppo was doing the spurs when we lived in San Antonio on TV.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: But it is just so rare.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: for somebody to be exactly as they are off the air on the air.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well actually that's not right.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's the reverse.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: It is rare for somebody to be on the air exactly who they are off the air.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's what everyone's chasing really and probably testing it's hard because there's
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: as a combination they were special, but individually they were special too, Hall of Famers each.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: What are we all doing here if we're not having fun and making others feel good?
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: And when you do an baseball every single day, you are just in people's lives every single day.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: for better or worse.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: And baseball can be exhilarating and amazing, and it can be a grind.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_01]: And for microco, and I never begrudge a baseball announcer who sounds like he's gone through the grind because the players are doing it.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_01]: The fans, it's a grind.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_01]: Season ticket holders, God bless you.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_01]: So why not for the broadcasters too?
- 51:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I never listened to my crook and thought,
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there's somewhere else he'd rather be or he's not having fun even though I'm sure there were some days there were some else he'd rather be.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just if you're a sports fan and you're going to watch a team every day, it's a gift to have people who are having fun doing the games.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's not normal to have Mike Kruko on your television.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: The reason he was such a special broadcaster, I think it's just because he was a special person.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not many people as special as him.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying there aren't people as kind, but that are the total packages of broadcasts or which is what he is.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: Which is what he is.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's a sad day that we don't all get to enjoy that.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: But we understand it and he had an amazing run.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_01]: and got to share a lot of special moments with everybody.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_01]: They got, you know, like he deserved when I said he deserved everybody deserve those championships because it, you know, and then they were on radio together.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: They just stuff for those guys in a booth on radio because they weren't on TV.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: And he made it work.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: They all made it work.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just,
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's just special.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't I've met him several times over the years or talk to him over the years, several times doing baseball, being around baseball, maybe visiting a buddy who was in town, calling baseball.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: He wouldn't remember any of those interactions.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he could pick me out of a lineup.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, so I, but I just, I think of myself like you, like I just, I know him from TV.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then you'd meet him and you go, or yeah, I hear a bunch of
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: great stories, you meet him, you go, oh, this guy, he's exactly what I hope do would be.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's exactly as he is on TV.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_01]: I can't imagine the number of people that just want to grab Mike for, hey, Mike, he had 10 seconds.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: I take a, you know, because of course, it's a compliment that people love you that much.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: And he made it look easy to be that guy.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_01]: And he was that guy.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_01]: He is that guy.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: I remember when I first met and then a few years later got to work a few times with Bill Walton.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: He was like, what is this?
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: What's he like?
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: I hope he's like, I think what he is.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_01]: And he was, it was just such an amazing thing.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: He is exactly who I hope he is.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: uh... going work together we went to dinner like this is the best he's just a genuine sweet caring person who wants to make other people feel good and i don't know mike as well as i knew bill i never worked with mike but i interacted enough to know what the people really know i'm now
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's special as he is in a broadcaster and a whole of him broadcaster a better person.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, not that he's waiting on my congratulations or we'll even hear it.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: So, maybe it's more just a message to everybody else.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like the rest of you.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: grateful to my crewco for his career.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_01]: And for sharing his life with us, it's, you know, what are we doing if we're hanging out and watching sports or listening to sports or talking about sports and not enjoying it and having fun doing it with, you know, people we like being around.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_01]: And the microco made you feel that way every time.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_01]: and that's the magic.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's the magic of it all.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the show for today.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's the show for today.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_01]: Big week because they're all big weeks and we'll talk soon.
