- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith. And so in last
- 0:03week's episode, I was just like, oh, it's just
- 0:05going to be our last week because I thought that
- 0:07there was going to be four weeks in a month,
- 0:08but there's really not. There's five weeks. So
- 0:10we are back for our fifth episode in January.
- 0:12And if you are new here to Fostering Faith, welcome
- 0:14to the channel where we are just fostering our
- 0:17faith together. We are walking and just growing
- 0:21our spiritual growth together as a community.
- 0:23And if you are a returning listener, welcome
- 0:25back home. And today we're going to be talking
- 0:27about a big one because we've spent all month
- 0:29talking about spiritual foundations, holy habits,
- 0:32discipline, bold prayers, and having the faith
- 0:35to go where God sends you. But the real question
- 0:37is, where do you go after you go? Because obedience
- 0:43isn't just in a moment. It's in the movement.
- 0:46It's in the follow through. and you can feel
- 0:48God calling you to do something and you can take
- 0:50the next step and you can say yes and you can
- 0:52go, but can you say faithful after that feeling
- 0:56wears off? See, anyone can go, but not everyone
- 1:00can grow. And today we're going to be talking
- 1:02about what may not be the most exciting next
- 1:07step, but the endurance of the second mile. And
- 1:11so in this episode, we're going to call faithfulness
- 1:13in the follow through the hype. always fades
- 1:17and so let's be real when god calls us to do
- 1:19something it feels exciting it feels powerful
- 1:21it feels new it feels momentum it feels spiritual
- 1:24and then life happens and you go where he told
- 1:29you to go you stepped into that ministry you
- 1:31showed up for that assignment you started the
- 1:33new routine you began the new relationship that
- 1:36got aligned and whenever you hit that point where
- 1:39you go well This was easier than the adrenaline
- 1:45was here. It was easier whenever that rush was
- 1:48there It was easier when the excitement was there
- 1:50It was easier whenever it was new and fresh But
- 1:52you're five years into this and you are just
- 1:54like what or you're not even a five years into
- 1:56it You could be a week into it a month into it
- 1:59because often times that newness wears off kind
- 2:02of like whenever you get a new car like after
- 2:03the first month the car smells gone and then
- 2:05you have potential payments and all this and
- 2:07I mean like Do I do I what what? You know, where
- 2:12do I go from here? And so let me tell you the
- 2:15truth that no one wants to preach. Obedience
- 2:17is emotional at first, but then it becomes spiritual
- 2:23in the follow through. The hype is in the moment,
- 2:27but faithfulness is in the lifestyle. And so
- 2:30we have people in scripture. So let's go through
- 2:33scripture because there's a biblical pattern.
- 2:35So Nehemiah, didn't just go rebuild the wall.
- 2:38He didn't just hear from God and then run with
- 2:41enthusiasm. He had to stay focused. He faced
- 2:44oppression. He shut down distraction. He ignored
- 2:47critics. He fight spiritual warfare. He handled
- 2:50conflict and kept people encouraged and pushed
- 2:54through exhaustion. And then on day 52, the wall
- 2:59was finished. Not day one. Not when it was exciting.
- 3:04not at the starting line, but on day 52. After
- 3:09day 51 of faithfulness, Nehemiah 6 .3 says, one
- 3:14of my favorite verses, he says, I am doing great
- 3:16work and I cannot come down. That is the heart
- 3:21of the follow through. It's not glamorous. It's
- 3:23not emotional. It's not Instagrammable. It's
- 3:25not goosebumps. It's steady. It's focused. It's
- 3:31obedience on the repeat. And so, Listen, spiritual
- 3:35maturity isn't whenever you go. Spiritual maturity
- 3:39is whenever you keep going. And you know why?
- 3:45Because through follow through, it requires spiritual
- 3:48discipline, humility, consistency, patience,
- 3:54sacrifice, grit, trust, surrender in the Holy
- 3:59Spirit. Anyone can start something, but few people...
- 4:03finish it. And so whenever we first heard this
- 4:06podcast it was just like they say that 90 % of
- 4:09podcasts at SART never get past six episodes
- 4:12and so we are well into our six episodes and
- 4:15we just keep going and just love hearing that
- 4:18people are tuning in and we are just expecting
- 4:22God for great things and He's maturing us, He's
- 4:25growing us, He put us in seminary for a reason.
- 4:28And we are just learning and loving on Jesus.
- 4:32And so why are we going to seminary? Not a clue.
- 4:35Not a clue. But we are just walking through semester
- 4:37by semester and just hoping and praying that
- 4:41we are doing God's will and taking the classes
- 4:46that He wants for us. And so as we are going
- 4:49to be starting our next semester. And so that's
- 4:53why we were wanting to just These messages encourage
- 4:57me just as much as I hope they encourage you.
- 5:01And people can start something, but very few
- 5:02people will finish it. And even Jesus talked
- 5:04about this in Luke 14 28. So which of you wanting
- 5:08to build a tower does not sit down and count
- 5:10the cost? Jesus wasn't thinking about the bricks.
- 5:14He was talking about discipleship. Before you
- 5:17start, you count the cost. And after you start,
- 5:22you carry the cross. And so the real reason for
- 5:26follow -through matters because Jesus didn't
- 5:28say, well done, good and faithful starter. He
- 5:31said, well done, good and faithful servant. Faithful,
- 5:37not flashy, but faithful. Why does follow -through
- 5:42matter? Because every calling has a completion
- 5:46every assignment has an after every goal has
- 5:49a keep going God is not just the God of beginnings
- 5:52He's the God of process and the enemy doesn't
- 5:55attack you when you go He attacks you whenever
- 5:58you continue because if he can't stop you first
- 6:01He'll try to stop you on the next one And that's
- 6:04why Galatians 6 9 says do not grow weary for
- 6:07doing good for in due season You will reap if
- 6:10you do not give up There's the keek word if You
- 6:15reap if You don't quit not if you start if you
- 6:21continue and So let me talk to the person who
- 6:25is tired the person who stepped out of faith
- 6:27But now you feel overwhelmed the person who obeyed
- 6:32But now you feel unseen the person who said yes
- 6:35Lord, but now the reality is heavier than a moment
- 6:39of excitement You need to hear me. Just because
- 6:43it's hard doesn't mean it's the wrong assignment.
- 6:46Sometimes the hardest obedience produces the
- 6:49greatest fruit. Faithfulness doesn't mean ease.
- 6:52It means endurance. Faithfulness doesn't mean
- 6:54excitement. It means commitment. Faithfulness
- 6:57doesn't mean clarity. It means trust. You don't
- 7:01go through this because it's fun. You follow
- 7:04through because it's right. And so let's get
- 7:07practical because I know you love when things
- 7:10are teachable, reachable, and practical. And
- 7:14so what does follow through really look like?
- 7:17Follow through looks like showing up when no
- 7:20one sees you. Follow through looks like praying
- 7:24whenever you don't feel like it. Reading the
- 7:27Bible whenever it feels dry. Staying planted
- 7:32where God put you. Finishing what God told you
- 7:36to do in the beginning. Trusting God with the
- 7:41results. Follow through looks like obedience
- 7:46in the ordinary Tuesday morning. Faithfulness
- 7:50is not glamorous, but it's powerful. And you're
- 7:56further than you think. Let me remind you that
- 7:59you are not behind. You are being built. You
- 8:03are not slow. You're being strengthened and you're
- 8:06not forgotten. You're being formed. You're not
- 8:10failing. You're being fortified. You're not stuck.
- 8:15You're being shaped. Follow through in the part
- 8:17where God does the deepest work. And so as we
- 8:21finish this month out in the very first month
- 8:24of the year, I want to speak this out loud. I
- 8:27want you to speak this out loud. God, I will
- 8:31follow through period. I will say faithful, period.
- 8:37I will continue to do what you started in me,
- 8:40period. I will not quit, period. I will not come
- 8:45down, period. I am doing a great work, period.
- 8:52And I will finish well, period. Write those on
- 8:57sticky notes. Write those wherever you are. Write
- 9:00them down. Take a picture of them. Put them on
- 9:02a screensaver. Do what you have to do, but declare
- 9:05it over what you're going to do. And so as you
- 9:10finish something that God started you to do,
- 9:13the one thing, the one assignment, the one step
- 9:15follow through, even in the small, finish it.
- 9:19Whenever we do small things, it leads to great
- 9:22things. And as we wrap up this first month of
- 9:24the year. I've been really thinking a lot about
- 9:27we don't talk about this enough and so we get
- 9:28all excited to go and then we spend all the time
- 9:31talking about the go but then we don't talk about
- 9:33what do you do after the thrill is gone and because
- 9:36obedience isn't just in the moment it's in the
- 9:39movement it's in the follow -through going it's
- 9:41gonna be so much more powerful if we continue
- 9:44to go and but continuing to grow your faith and
- 9:47when God calls you first to do something it feels
- 9:49exciting it feels spiritual it feels momentous
- 9:52But you feel bold, you feel ready and let's go,
- 9:54let's go. That's the moment where it's beautiful.
- 9:57But then life happens and it gets heavy and it
- 9:59fades. And you're doing exactly what God called
- 10:01you to do. But obedience is emotional at first.
- 10:05And then you have the spiritual follow through
- 10:07and the hype and you have Nehemiah. And so it's
- 10:10so just important to go back to scripture. There's
- 10:12people out there just like you. And you can see
- 10:14how they went. They were called. And he faced
- 10:17ridiculous amounts of spiritual willpower and
- 10:19exhaustion and conflict and all this stuff. But
- 10:22he says I will not come down my god told me to
- 10:25do something and I will not come down And so
- 10:27just make sure that we remember If god called
- 10:30to do something if god be for you who dare be
- 10:32against you Make sure that we are reading those
- 10:34scriptures making sure that we're looking at
- 10:36the people that went before us Hey if they can
- 10:38do it, so can I and we listen spiritual maturity
- 10:41is about whenever you go You're gonna finish
- 10:44that race. It's about us not being weary. It's
- 10:47about us Having that endurance for that race
- 10:49that god has called us to do because you know
- 10:51that if he has called you he's equipped you everything
- 10:54that you need to do Is in you and so whether
- 10:58he is going to put all those signs and wonders
- 11:01that are in you out at front No, he's going to
- 11:04continue to build them. He's going to continue
- 11:06to reveal them to you as you continue to walk
- 11:08He's not going to give you everything that he's
- 11:10declared over you like we're off your first step
- 11:13No month after month day after day week after
- 11:15week He's pruning you he's making you who he's
- 11:19created you to be and we have to go through things
- 11:21and refinement and treatment and like all these
- 11:24things to be transformed because obedience is
- 11:27gonna be Transformational and that's the whole
- 11:31point is to be transformed in Christ. And so
- 11:35as we close this out I just I hope this message
- 11:37encourages you because we have to do the follow
- 11:40-through and so even just like I told Gia in
- 11:42basketball the follow -through you got to follow
- 11:44up with your shot and so you shoot the ball and
- 11:47then you you shoot the shot and then you fade
- 11:48away and then you could have ran up got the rebound
- 11:51and shot it up again. And so it's just so important
- 11:53with the follow through with everything and staying
- 11:56consistent, staying up, showing up until it is
- 11:58done. And so it's just so important that you
- 12:00guys just really just root down. And I know it
- 12:03can get hard, but that's around putting people
- 12:05in your life and allowing. community to be there
- 12:09with you, and so they can build you up, they
- 12:11can edify you, they can encourage you, they can
- 12:13help you with the sermon. Hey, is this really
- 12:15from God? Because we know that what scripture
- 12:16said before, if it's not something that is biblically
- 12:19based, then we know it's not from God, because
- 12:21the devil can make things look real good. And
- 12:24so just making sure that we're surrounding ourselves
- 12:26with godly counsel. And just I think that this
- 12:29year is just going to be just a great year. And
- 12:32so we would love to pray for you guys. Lord,
- 12:35thank you for every listener. Thank you for the
- 12:38strengthening their hearts. Thank you for the
- 12:39protection of their commitment. Anchor them in
- 12:41their spirit. Give them the endurance. Help them
- 12:43follow through on things that you told them to
- 12:45begin. Remind them of obedience as it measured
- 12:48in moments, but in faithfulness. Cover them with
- 12:50your favor and give them the courage to continue
- 12:52even when it's not easy. Let this year be marked
- 12:55by the follow through. We pray this in Jesus
- 12:58name. Amen and amen. And we hope that you are
- 13:02following on the website and so we have a website
- 13:05called fosteringfaithmedia .com and that link
- 13:08is in it should be in the bio and it is we have
- 13:12workbooks and so we created a whole workbook
- 13:14for every month and so we can follow through
- 13:16every month because if I have to do homework
- 13:19so do you guys and so every month is already
- 13:21planned out and it is on the website you guys
- 13:23can print them out and that way you can go through
- 13:25week by week and that way you can have your homework
- 13:27and look back and at this year of what God has
- 13:30done because if we write it down because is we
- 13:31know that we have Habakkuk 2 .2 that says write
- 13:33it down, make it plain as day. And so someone
- 13:35can take and run with it. And so we write it
- 13:37down. We can see what God is doing in our lives.
- 13:39We can see our plans. We can see what we're walking
- 13:41through with every podcast. And so we hope this
- 13:44encourages you. If it does, share it, leave a
- 13:46comment, help our podcast grow. And we love you
- 13:50guys. We'll see you back next week.
