Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_03: Held her hand and I said, I'm so sorry for what I did to her.
- 0:03SPEAKER_03: I'm so sorry.
- 0:04SPEAKER_03: And God bless my former wife, my first wife.
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: She said to me, Oh, sweetheart, I forgave you 30 years ago.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: When are you going to forgive yourself?
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: And those were just about her last words to me.
- 0:27SPEAKER_03: What have I done to deserve this continuing struggle?
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: It never ends.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: What do you want from me, God?
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: What do you want from me?
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: And I heard a voice inside my head.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: Neil, do you really want answers to all of these questions?
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: Or are you just venting?
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: Love is not a transaction.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: Love is a transmission that you simply send to another person, not because of what you can get back from that other person, but because you simply love that other person purely with no agenda.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: You will hear these words, Natalie.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: Because of what you're doing.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: You will hear these words.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: Well done, good and faithful servant.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: Well done.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Well, I feel that in my heart.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: And what a blessing to receive those words now.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Not to wait until I leave this body, but to remember it now.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Namaste, beautiful souls.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Today I have Neil Donald Welsh with me, and I'm sure many of you know him.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: He's the he's a wonderful funny man, I've just found out with a squashed face.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: We've just been laughing.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: But really, what what Neil Neil's written over 40 books, and I'm sure many of you know his series, Conversations with God.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: And I'm just enjoyed to be here and have this conversation with you.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: And I also recently read your more recent book, which is um Letters to a Young Seeker, Departing Thoughts from an Elder, which I feel like we're gonna dive into today as well.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: So welcome, Neil.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: It's wonderful to be here, Natalie.
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: And I appreciate the opportunity to share this time with you.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: How may I be of service to you?
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Well, Neil, when I was very little, I I remembered.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: I remembered um the light that we are, the connection, like the magic.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: And and then when I was a teenager, I just wanted to be loved and fit in, and so I kind of like contracted a bit.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: And and that's when I read your first book, Conversations with God, and and I was ready for it.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: It really expanded me.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: And then today, like in in the last few um weeks, I was reading letters to a young seeker, and and I felt in my body, I felt it's like confirmation of truth.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: And I feel like if everyone reads these 21 letters, I really feel it in my body that we can remember the peace, the love that we really are.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: And so I I'd like to dive in and talk a little bit about some of what like really touched me in the book.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, it all did, but there's some parts that um I'm currently digesting or expanding within.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: So the first one is the purpose of your life has little to do with what your mind may think and your body may desire.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: These are your words from your book.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: And I just many times in my community, people have said, oh, what's my sole purpose or what's my sole mission?
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: And from my own experience, what I've come to understand, and I call it this, I say, it's the pointless point.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Because from the level of God, God's already fulfilled just being you, just being the expression and experience of God itself.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: It's already fulfilled, so there's no point.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: But it's like God getting to know thyself through the individual expression of the soul.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: But then I also understand from the level of the soul being a human, there seems to be a soul evolutionary purpose.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: And for me, it seems to be to want to be more love.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: So I repeat your statement and I'd love you to shed light on it.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: The purpose of your life has little to do with what your mind may think and your body may desire.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Please share with us.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Well, what if thank you, Natalie?
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: What I've come to understand is that this is not who I am.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: I'm not my body.
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: And this is not who I am.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: I'm not even my mind.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: That my body and my mind are tools, pieces of equipment being used by who I really am.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: And I believe that who I really am is simply a spirit, a spiritual being having a physical experience.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: And I think that the purpose of my spiritual being having a physical experience is for my soul to be able to move its agenda forward.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: I think it does that with every lifetime that the soul lives.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: That is to say, it's my understanding that our soul reincarnates, that we may have more than one lifetime.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: We may have had several lifetimes.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: We, in fact, we may have had, for all I know, several hundred lifetimes through the ages, with several hundred more to come.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: And I think that the soul does have an agenda, and I think you nailed it when you said evolution.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: I think the soul's agenda is to announce and declare, to express and fulfill, to demonstrate and to experience who we really are.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: And I believe that who we really are, each of us, is an individuation of divinity.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: I believe that's true of every sentient being in the cosmos, not just those of us here on earth.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: I believe that all sentient beings in the cosmos are simply evolving into the next grandest version of an individuation of divinity, so that and uh so that we can experience what it's like and what we choose to experience, what it's like to be one with God, to be not separated from God, but connected to that essence, that energy that I call God.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: Some people call it Allah, Brahman, Yahweh, Jehovah, whatever word you want to use, to describe the essential essence of the universe.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: So I don't think that my life has anything to do with the desires of my body or my mind.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: I think that not that it's we not that we have to set aside those desires, we're not required to never desire anything in our life, but that we, at least in my case, focus, deliberately focus my desires, the desires of my body and my mind, on the agenda of my soul.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: In other words, is what I am desiring in my body and my mind serving the agenda of my soul.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: And you know what the sad part for me, Natalie, for the first golly, the first 30 years of my adult life, in my 20s, 30s, and 40s, I don't think that the desires of my body and my mind were serving the agenda of my soul.
- 9:10SPEAKER_03: I think I was, to put it bluntly, wasting my time here, not using the time I've given myself in this particular body to serve the agenda of my soul, which is an eternal essence.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: My soul is eternal, it will live through all eternity, in my understanding.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: So, and I realized that when I was around 48 years old, when I could see that even when I was successful in serving the desires of my body and my mind, I never felt really totally fulfilled.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: I never felt totally happy.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: You know, I did well in my careers.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: I wasn't, you know, wealthy, or I didn't become a terribly rich person, but I always earned enough money to satisfy my needs and the needs of my family.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: I did well in the in the radio business.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: I was in the broadcasting business for a number of years, and then I went into the newspaper business and became a reporter and ultimately a managing editor of a newspaper.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: So, you know, I I didn't have any problem earning a living, and I didn't have any problem serving the desires of my body either.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: You know, frankly, to be honest with you, as opposed to all the lies I've been telling since we began.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: To be honest with you, I was a womanizer for the first thirty years of my adult life.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: I was I don't know what I don't know what the heck I was thinking.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: But you know what?
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: Natalie I actually had an affair when I was with my first wife.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: What what was I thinking?
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: What in the world was I thinking?
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: It's something of course I would never do today, but you know, why did it take 30 years for wisdom and clarity and true pure love to inhabit my being?
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: But you know, I was in in my twenties and thirties and forties, just after all the joy and happiness I could bring to my body, not just sexually, but in every way.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: You know, in every way.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: You know, I I ate well, I frankly drank too much.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: I just wasn't paying attention to why I was here until I realized somewhere around the age of 48 how unhappy I was.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: And then life really taught me a lesson.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because I wound up losing another relationship, another marriage that I was in.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: It wasn't my first marriage.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: I lost that years ago because of the affair that I had, and she divorced me, and she should have, and she did.
- 12:33SPEAKER_03: But you know the kind of person she was?
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: We we remained friends through the years.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: And when she was leaving the planet, she was on her last moments of life.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: I I had the the privilege of being with her because we had created children together and she was living with my daughter, our daughter.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: And so my daughter called me over to the house and said, Mom is dying.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: And I raced over there, and I held her hand and I said, I'm so sorry for what I did.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: I'm so sorry.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: I I don't know, I can't make it up to you.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: I'm just I don't know how to.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: I can't undo what I did.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: I wish I could undo it.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: And God bless my former wife, my first wife.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: She said to me, Oh, sweetheart, I forgave you 30 years ago.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: When are you gonna forgive yourself?
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: And those were just about her last words to me.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: And she put my hand in my daughter's hand, she said, just take care of our children.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: Talk about a saint.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but then years later, I was remarried, and that marriage did not go well either.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Not because I was having an affair, I at least I stopped that particular behavior, but I was not that easy to uh be with during the day, get along with.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: Kind of bossy, a little bit.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: So my wife and I, we didn't have an argument.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: It wasn't uh you know a big fight.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: We just kind of agreed with each other gently that our relationship wasn't working the way we wanted it to work.
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: So we agreed that we would part company.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: I said, okay, fair enough.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: I'll get a little apartment, and you know, we also had some children together, and that was going well, but so I was seeing my children.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: But five days after we parted company, I lost my job.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: The organization that I was working for had to what they called downsize.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: They had to lose some overhead.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: And I was the person with the least amount of seniority, so I was the first person they had to let go.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: So I lost my relationship with my wife and my job in the same five-day period.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: But wait, life wasn't over with me yet.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: Five days later, I'm driving to an interview for a new job, and I know I'm going to get the job because my old boss wrote me a glowing letter of recommendation saying, you know, he was one of our best employees, but because of the seniority rules of our company, he was the one we had to let go first when we reduced our staff.
- 15:59SPEAKER_03: But he gave me a glowing letter of recommendation, but I never got to the interview because an elderly gentleman driving in the opposite direction, coming toward me, made a left turn in front of my car.
- 16:15SPEAKER_03: He misjudged the distance between our two cars.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: I couldn't believe it.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: He was turning right in front of me, and I was driving 35 miles an hour, and we crashed into each other.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: And my car was destroyed completely.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: It was, as they say in the business, totaled.
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: My car was totaled, and I was nearly totaled.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: I wound up with a broken neck, and not with a hairline fracture, but with a three-quarter inch avulsion fracture of the seventh cervical vertebrae posteriorly.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: In other words, I had a break in my neck big enough to put a pencil through.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I know.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: And when I got to the hospital, the doctor said to me, you know, Mr.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: Walsh, you're very lucky.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: Most people who suffer that big of a break in their neck die instantly because of spinal cord complications.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: He said, You're a miracle.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: And those who don't die at least wind up being semi-paralyzed from the neck down.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: Walsh, you have suffered neither consequence.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: What do you intend to do with the rest of your life?
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Goose bumps.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Whoa.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: Because you've been given a great gift.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: And so they've they fitted me with what they call a Philadelphia collar.
- 17:39SPEAKER_03: It's a collar that you wear to hold your head up while you're healing your neck.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: And nobody would hire me.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: I was going to interview after interview, but nobody would hire me.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: Finally, after seven interviews, the interviewer was honest with me.
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: He said, Mr.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: Walsh, we would hire you in 30 seconds if you weren't wearing that therapeutic device around your neck, but we can't put you on the staff right now.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: You're clearly handicapped and one wrong move on the job.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: And we're going to be paying your medical bills for the next five years.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: We can't afford to come back to us when you're all in one piece, when you're totally healed, and we'd hire you in 30 seconds.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Natalie, I couldn't get a job anymore.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: I finally wound up running out of my life savings.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: And the owner of the apartment where I was living evicted me.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: He said, I can't carry you.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: And he carried me for three months, God bless him.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: But he said, I can't, he said, I can't carry you anymore.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: I've got to have the income.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Oh my.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: So he he evicted me and I had nowhere to go.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: I wound up, Natalie, living on the street.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: I was what they call in America, a street person, sleeping on the ground.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: I had a little tent, thank God.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: My former wife let me have the family tent so I could stay out of the rain, but it's still cold.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: It's cold.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: There's no heater in a tent.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: And in the summertime, it's hot because there's no air conditioning in a tent.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: You can open, you know, but but I was sleeping on the ground and then I was going from person to person with my handout.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: Could you please offer me anything at all?
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: Even a few coins.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: Because if I got a few coins from everybody that I asked today, maybe I could eat something before the end of the day.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: And I had nowhere to talk about losing your dignity.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: I had nowhere to use the bathroom.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: I had to find someplace in the woods where I could relieve myself.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: That's how I was living.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: And this went on for a couple of bad weeks.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: Well, no, it was actually several bad months.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: The truth is, it was one year.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: One yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: I lived that way for two weeks shy of one year, fifty weeks before I finally got a part-time job somewhere.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: And it was enough to afford a little one-room apartment above the garage of somebody.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: But at least I was out of the weather, out of the rain, out of the heat, out of the cold.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: At least it had a tiny little bathroom where I could take a shower.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: And that's when I woke up at 4 30 in the morning one morning.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: To be precise at 4 23.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: And I woke up at 4.23 in the morning furious with God.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: Because I believed in God all my life.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: And I was yelling at God inside my head, what have I done to deserve this continuing struggle?
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: It never ends.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: What do you want from me, God?
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: What do you want from me?
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: And I remember thinking, just tell me the rules.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: I'll play the silly game called Life.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: Just give me the rule book.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: How does it work?
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: And I heard a voice inside my head.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: Neil, do you really want answers to all of these questions?
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: Or are you just venting?
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: And I say I'm thinking to myself, yeah, yeah, yeah, you think I am, yeah, I think so.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: But if you've got answers, then As hell, like to know what they are, and the voice said, Neil, you are sure as hell about a lot of things, but wouldn't you rather be sure as heaven?
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: And I said to myself, Okay, what's that supposed to mean?
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: And the voice in my mind said, Write down everything I'm going to tell you.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: You will not want to forget it.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: I said, Okay, okay.
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: And I wrote down on a yellow legal pad everything I was hearing in my mind.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: And I was very clear after just a few answers that I was talking directly to the highest part of me that I call God.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: I was talking directly to God.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: I was literally having an on-paper dialogue with deity.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: So I began asking other questions and got other answers.
- 23:04SPEAKER_03: And then I got into more questions.
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: And before I knew it, I had a question answer, question, answer, question, answer that went on for weeks.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: And then I was finally told, Nail, you will make of this one day a book, and it will be accessed by many people.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: And I thought to myself, Ned, that now now that now I got you.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: Now I'll find out whether this is really a conversation with God or I'm making it all up because that's not going to happen.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: No publisher, I mean, I could self-publish, but no, no legitimate publishing company is going to put out a book because some guy claims that God is talking to him.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: So I sent my handwritten notes.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: I had them Xeroxed, and I made copies, electronic copies, and I sent them to a couple of publishers just to see what would happen.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: Because a small company published, they called me and said, we want to put this book out.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: Of course, I had my phone number in the papers, and they called me.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: I said, You're kidding me.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: They said, no, we think it's a fascinating, you know, uh novel.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: I said, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: You're not going to publish it as a fiction book.
- 24:42SPEAKER_03: This is not a novel.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: And they said, Oh, we thought it was a fictional story about a guy who claims to be having an argument with God.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: I said, no, no, no.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: And the publisher said, Mr.
- 24:56SPEAKER_03: Walsh, are you telling me you think this actually happened to you?
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: And I said, excuse me.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: I said, yes, yes, that's why I sent it to you.
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: And he said, Oh, okay, well, we'll put it out as a nonfiction book, but it's not going to find, you know, 50 followers, 50 readers.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: Nobody's going to rush out to buy our book because a guy in Oregon claims to be talking to God.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: But we'll put it out just to see what happens.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: And he was right.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: The book did not find 50 readers.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: It found five million.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: And wound up being sold by the small company to a large publishing house, one of the major publishers in the world.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: And they put the book out in 37 languages.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: And it wound up being read by people in France, in Spain, in Germany, in Russia, in China.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: It was published in China.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: It was published, I mean, in the weirdest places in the world, even in New Jersey.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: That's a pretty weird place.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: That was a little humor there, little joke.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: But it did, to be serious, it did wind up being published everywhere, uh, in in 37 countries, in 37 separate languages, from Norway to Yugoslavia, from Mexico to Guatemala.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: It was sold everywhere.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: I couldn't, I couldn't believe it.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: I thought, what's happening here?
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: What's happening here?
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: But it turns out that people everywhere in the world were having the same questions I was having.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: And to them, the answers that I received were making some sense and were changing their lives.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: I began receiving emails because I put my email address in the book, and I began, I thought I might get five or ten, you know, emails from people.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: I didn't think I'd be getting 5,000.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: But I began getting emails from people around the world saying this book has changed my life because it's changed my relationship with God and changed my understanding of not only who God is, but of who I am.
- 27:46unknown: Yes.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: And that's how people's lives were being changed.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: And that's my long-winded answer to your very short 30-second question.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: Don't ask me any more questions because every 30-second question is going to get another 12-minute answer.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: I feel it in my heart, Neil.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: You're so real.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: It's like it's humble, truthful, because you you've walked the path.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: And these are the questions we ask.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: So I'm just gonna feel into uh what questions I have.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, one of them is you experience suffering, and through that you experienced the opposite of it.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: Yes, serenity and peace.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: Joy, happiness, true joy, true serenity.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: Not not for a moment or two, not you know, a temporary joy, but uh lasting serenity in my body and in my mind.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: Yes, that's what I wound up experiencing.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: But the question that people ask me is do we all have to suffer that much before we can get to the other side, to the other side of it, yeah, and wind up feeling peace and serenity and joy?
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: And I said, the answer is no, because I asked God the same question.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and and God said, No, no, it's not required.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: I was stubborn, I was a stubborn person, among my other not so nice characteristics as a younger man.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: I was very stubborn.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: So I so I I thought I can beat this rap, I can beat this rap, you know.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: But you know, life was unkind to me.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: But I had to wind up with a year on the sidewalk, sleeping on the ground to wake my soul up.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: Because my soul said, okay, okay, clearly there's another way, clearly there's a better way to live my life and to understand who I am, to say nothing about who God is, if there even is a God.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: So I embarked on what I was told in my dialogue, and it did change my life.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: But it's not necessary to bring my answer to a close.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: It's not necessary for us to experience the negative side of life in order to experience the wonder and the positive side of life.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: So, my own personal experience, I experienced depression, and what I noticed was that when we have one emotion that comes in, like there's this law of opposites.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Um when I felt empty and depressed, I had moments of that, but I also had the awareness, like as a teenager and into my early 20s, and I also had this awareness that I had moments of exquisite joy, and and I felt that the polarity was in the field at the same time.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: And what I focused on would be what like if I would attach to it, I'd I seemed to like create it to stay, but if I witnessed it with with like an awareness of it, it seemed to move and dissolve itself and clear out, and then I would experience its opposite.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: What what is your experience with this?
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: Precisely the same, precisely the same as yours.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: And I believe that many people have that experience.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: And when I asked God about this, she told me about what I understood later to be what you called the law of opposites.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: Because God said to me, Neil, the moment you declare yourself to want or to desire anything, the moment you declare yourself to be anything, you know, I'm happy, I'm peaceful, I'm abundant, you know, I'm I'm satisfied.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: The moment you declare yourself to be anything, its exact opposite will come into your awareness.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: And I said to God, why?
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: I don't understand.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: Explain it why.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: Why does the opposite have to come in when I want to experience myself in a certain way?
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: God said to me, Nia, let me give you a simple example.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: You're six feet tall.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: I said, Yes, yes, I am six feet tall.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: How did you know that?
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: God laughed and said, That's a cute question.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: But let's both agree that I know everything and I know that you're six feet tall.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: But here's something I want to answer, I want you to answer.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: Do you enjoy being six feet tall?
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: And I said, Yes.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm I enjoy being six feet tall.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: I'm glad I'm not four foot four or five foot two.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: My mother was very short, she was five foot three, very short lady.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: I'm even shorter than that.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: There you are.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: So I said, Yeah, I enjoy being six feet tall.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: And God said, but what if every blade of grass, every plant, every flower, every tree, every building, what if every person, what if everything in your entire universe was precisely six feet tall?
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: How could you then experience what it's like being six feet tall?
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Because there's nothing that is not.
- 34:01SPEAKER_03: So you will actually pray for something, anything, give me anything that's not six feet tall if you really want to know what it's like being six feet tall.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: And if you want to know what it's like being pure love, being divine, you will come into a place where your awareness will expand so that that which is not what you would call divine would come into your experience.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: And you know, there was a guy living here on this planet around 2,000 years ago who put it very simply.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: He said, Raise not your fist to heaven, and curse the darkness not, but be a light unto the darkness, that you might know who you really are, and bless, bless, bless those who would hurt you.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: And if a man slaps you on the right cheek, turn and offer him your left.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: And if a man sues you at law and steals your coat, give him your shirt as well.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: And if a man demands that you walk one mile with him, go with him, Duane.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: Or Neil, to put this very simply, do unto others as you would have it done unto you.
- 35:49SPEAKER_03: This is not new thought.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Thinking, this is not the modern spiritual age.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: We were given this information thousands of years ago by virtually every spiritual master who has walked this planet, both male and female, through the centuries.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: We simply haven't listened.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: But I decided after my conversation with God, when she explained to me, oh, in order for me to experience being six feet tall, I would have to encounter blades of grass that are not even six inches tall.
- 36:36SPEAKER_03: Then the opposite of who I am would allow me to experience who I am, because in the absence of what you are not, what you are is not experienceable.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: Voila.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: Therefore, bless, bless, bless that which opposes you and see it not as opposition, but as opportunity to announce and declare, express and fulfill, demonstrate and experience who you really are.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: Love everyone purely.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: God said to me, Nail, the definition of God, you've been looking for a definition of God all your life.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: I'll give you a definition of God, said the voice in my mind.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: Two words Pure Love.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: Not just love, not human love.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: Pure love.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: Love that is unconditional, unending, and unlimited.
- 38:00SPEAKER_03: Pure love needs, expects, requires, and demands nothing in return.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: God said to me, Neil, let me explain to you what love really is because you guys down there are not getting it.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: Love is not a transaction, like a trade deal between nations.
- 38:24SPEAKER_03: I'll give you this if you give me that, I'll give you what you want if you give me what I want.
- 38:30SPEAKER_03: Love is not a transaction.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: Love is a transmission that you simply send to another person, not because of what you can get back from that other person, but because you simply love that other person purely with no agenda.
- 38:52SPEAKER_03: We can't even turn to the person on the pillow next to us and love them that way, until one day we decide that we can.
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: That's why I had failed relationships one after the other until God told me all of this.
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: And then I was able to find a lady who understood some of the same things that I understood.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: And I was able to turn to her on the pillow next to me and say, I love you.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: No matter what.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: I love you no matter what.
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: That doesn't mean that I'm going to allow you to damage me, injure me, hurt me, or mistreat me.
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: It simply means I will never stop loving you no matter what.
- 39:59SPEAKER_03: The way God loves us.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: Because she said to me, that is God said to me, I love you no matter what.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: There's no such no such place as hell.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: I don't judge you, condemn you, and punish you.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: And I certainly don't send you to everlasting damnation because you joined the wrong religion.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: You believe in God, but you don't believe in God the right way.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: You belong to the wrong religion because there's only one true religion.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: Who told who who made up that story?
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: Certainly not the God of this universe.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: You know, I got to tell you something.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: By the way, I did promise you I'd give you 27-minute answers to 27-second questions.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: But the story I was going to share with you is when I was in the third grade, I was nine years old, my parents had sent me to a Catholic elementary school run by the Catholic Church, which was a very lovely school, and it was run.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: The teachers were all nuns.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: They were all sisters.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: And and but every Wednesday, once one day a week, the priest would come in from our local parish and teach the children what they called catechism, the doctrines of the Catholic Church.
- 41:35SPEAKER_03: And the one Sunday, the teeth the priest was teaching us about mortal sin and venial sin.
- 41:43SPEAKER_03: Mortal sin being the most severe offense you could commit against God, unforgivable, unless you get go to confession and get forgiven by a priest.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: Then you can be forgiven.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: But I so I raised my little nine-year-old hand.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: I remember this vividly.
- 42:02SPEAKER_03: Father, can you give me an example of a mortal sin?
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: And God said, certainly, my child.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: And I thought he was going to say, you murder somebody or maybe steal someone's life savings or whatever.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: He said, if you miss Mass on Sunday, it's a mortal sin.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: If I miss church on Sunday, it's a mortal sin.
- 42:26SPEAKER_03: The worst offense I could commit against God.
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: Yes, my son.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: And if you die with that sin on your soul, and you didn't go to confession and confess and get it forgiven by a priest, if you die with that sin on your soul, you will go to hell.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Eternal damnation.
- 42:51SPEAKER_03: And my mind is, my nine-year-old mind is trying to put this together.
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: I'm going to spend eternity in hell for missing church one Sunday of my life?
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: God said, Well, I mean, the priest said, Well, if you have a good excuse, if you're caring for a sick parent or you, or if you're an adult and you have to work on Sunday to support your family, fair enough.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: But if you just decide to go play golf some Sunday because a friend you haven't seen in 20 years shows up at your house, an old friend from you know years ago and says, Let's go play some golf.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: He said, Okay, I can I can do that.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: It's a Sunday morning.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: I can you know I'll go to Mass next week.
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: If you don't confess that sin before you die, you will be judged and condemned by God.
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: And I, you know, of course, I'm nine years old, I'm asking innocent questions.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: I innocently, I innocently said to the priest, Father, what if I'm on my way to confession?
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: We only had confession one day a week in our church, Saturdays at Two o'clock.
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: I said, what if I'm on my way to confession and I get hit by a car right outside the church and I die there on the sidewalk?
- 44:14SPEAKER_03: Surely God would see my intention was to go to confession.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, my son, the priest said.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: If that sin has not been forgiven by a priest and you didn't say your penance, you will go to hell.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: So do not miss Mass on Sunday.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: Talk about filling the church with fear.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: Let's use fear to fill the pews.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: And the Catholic Church is not the only church that uses fear.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: We create in our religions fear of God.
- 45:00SPEAKER_03: It's supposed to be a good characteristic.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: It's really good to be a God-fearing man.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: I don't want to be a God-fearing man.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: No.
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: I want to be a God-loving man.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: And I don't want to love God because I have to, because if I don't, I'll be punished.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: What kind of love is that?
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: Those are the kinds of questions I ask God.
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: And she gave me answers in the dialogue.
- 45:34SPEAKER_03: He was forthright and very direct with me.
- 45:39SPEAKER_03: And I never forgot everything she told me.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: Yes, so I wound up writing three thousand pages of dialogue.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: And then at the suggestion of the God in my household, who happens to be my wife, of course.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: Every husband understands that.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: We all know who's running the place.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: My husband feels the same.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: So my wife said to me, Sweetheart, you've told me your story so often.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: Why don't you take the most important messages you received in your conversations with God and put them in a book for young people, for 23-year-olds or even 33-year-olds who could not have to wait until they're 50 to figure it all out.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: Put your messages that you receive from God in a series of short letters.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: The whole book was her idea.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: Letters to a young seeker.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: Because she explained to me that she had read a book 30 years prior called Letters to a Young Poet by the Austrian poet Rilke.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: Rainer Marie Wilke Rilke, who had written a series of letters to a young poet who wanted to know more about life and how could I be a poet like you?
- 47:23SPEAKER_03: And he published her letters.
- 47:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, his letters.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: He published Rilke's letters and a book called Letters to a Young Poet.
- 47:32SPEAKER_03: And my wife said it really impacted her enormously.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: And she said, I think you should write that kind of a book for young people.
- 47:41SPEAKER_03: And when I finished writing it, she said, I love it, I love it.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: I read it and I think it's got some really important information.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: But it's a bit logical, it's a bit left-brained.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: It needs a little bit of softness.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: Could you bring some softness to it?
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: And I said, darling, I know the best way to bring softness to it.
- 48:03SPEAKER_03: Could we put some of your poems in the book?
- 48:06SPEAKER_03: Because my wife happens to be a published poet, two books of published poetry.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: She said, I would be delighted.
- 48:17SPEAKER_03: So she went through her collection of poems and found poems that matched the letters I had written.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: And put one after each of the short letters.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: And the letters are very short.
- 48:32SPEAKER_03: And she, you know, because I learned that if you can't put it into 120 words or less, today's people don't want to have anything to do with it.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: Seems to be.
- 48:42SPEAKER_03: Seems to be for sure.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: So I wound up writing 21 very short letters, each one containing what I consider to be one of the most important messages in the 3,000 pages of the Conversations with God dialogue.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: And my wife put a poem at the end of each letter to give it a little bit of a different energy.
- 49:06SPEAKER_03: So we wound up with a book created by both of us: Messages for the Mind and Magic for the Heart.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: Letters to a young poet.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: And what's happening is that not only are young people buying it or finding it, but older people, people in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, they're reading it and then giving it to their children or their grandchildren and saying, I really want you to have this.
- 49:40SPEAKER_03: So the book seems to be serving its purpose.
- 49:47SPEAKER_03: And I'm very grateful to have been given the opportunity to bring something to others that produces benefit in their lives, just as you do, Natalie, with this podcast.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: And when you finish with this particular incarnation, and when your soul leaves your body, and your body is complete with this experience, and when you go back to the other side, you will hear these words, Natalie, because of what you're doing.
- 50:40SPEAKER_03: You will hear these words.
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: Now not to wait until I leave this body, but to remember it now.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: Like I feel I feel like all of us.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: And you know, Neil, on my own journey.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: Just when the mind will come in and contract, I will witness it and recognize that that's not me, and in the moment it will dissolve.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: And I'll feel it in the body, and I'll be like, even that sensation in the body, that's not the truth of me.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: I am God, I am the infinite light.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: I remember that which I am, and I create more and more space in my mind and in my body for that which I am to truly be here and to truly live from love.
- 52:20SPEAKER_03: Yes, and the fastest way for us to remember who we are is to cause another to remember who they really are.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: God gave me a wonderful secret in life.
- 52:33SPEAKER_03: She said, Neil, life works very simply.
- 52:38SPEAKER_03: Whatever you want, whatever you want in your life, more humor, more abundance, more security, more sex, more whatever, whatever you want in your life, more of.
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: Don't be a seeker.
- 52:56SPEAKER_03: Be the source.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: Be the source of it in the life of another.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: Because Neil, what flows through you sticks to you.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: What goes around comes around.
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: For an elegant reason, Neil.
- 53:20SPEAKER_03: There's only one of us here.
- 53:24SPEAKER_03: We are all one.
- 53:28SPEAKER_03: We may look different.
- 53:31SPEAKER_03: I mean you may look different from me.
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: The French have a way of expressing that difference.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: Viva la difference.
- 53:45SPEAKER_03: But when we honor the differences and love each other, no matter what, can we even love people who do things that we don't agree with?
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: That we dramatically disagree with.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: The man who lived two thousand years ago told us that.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: And even as they were killing him, even in the moment they were crucifying him, his words were not words of hatred or anger.
- 54:21SPEAKER_02: He said, Father, forgive them.
- 54:25SPEAKER_02: They know not what they do.
- 54:32SPEAKER_02: Voila.
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: It's really quite simple.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: Differences do not have to create divisions, contrasts do not have to create conflicts.
- 54:42SPEAKER_03: Variance does not have to create violence.
- 54:45SPEAKER_03: We can agree to disagree agreeably.
- 54:51SPEAKER_03: And when we learn that, our lives will change overnight.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: I could, of course, be wrong about all of this.
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: But I don't think so.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: Thank you for the opportunity to spend this time with you and to share these thoughts.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: This has been really deeply in the heart.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: And Neil, this thought just comes in now of that your book, these 21 letters, yes, they're for the 21-year-old, but also they're for the eight-year-old.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: Because so I have this friend Kyle, he's my dear friend, and he's got this little boy called James.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: And he was just telling me the other day how they're how they're creating this hard coherence space for for these little kids.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know how old he is.
- 55:56SPEAKER_01: I think he's I mean he could be six, he could be eight, maybe he's eight, but he maybe I can just find it and read it to you because I feel like just this I just feel like your letters are gonna reach even the children.
- 56:12SPEAKER_01: So I got it in a message here.
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: Here, okay, so he wrote me, he said, My son James is working on what he wants to say in his first video to welcome the kids to like heart coherence.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: And he says, um, this is what he wrote.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: How I practice is I focus on my heart, then I breathe in and out through my heart, then I think about the things I'm grateful for.
- 56:38SPEAKER_01: This really helps me to calm down and relax, and I feel good.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: I actually use this while I'm pitching, but for every single pitch, I breathe through my heart.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: This is a little one, like eight years old.
