- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on Gadigal land. Always was, always
- 0:04Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal land.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Hey, cheeks. I'm Sal.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And I'm Al.
- 0:12Speaker 2: And this is Two Broke Cheeks, the show that shares
- 0:13Speaker 2: life lessons and tips to help make you rich in life.
- 0:17Speaker 2: And welcome back to another monthly podcast.
- 0:21Speaker 1: How is it October?
- 0:22Speaker 2: We say that every month.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Every single month. But like it's basically it's Christmas now.
- 0:28Speaker 2: It is.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It's Christmas.
- 0:29Speaker 2: It's festive season.
- 0:30Speaker 1: If you think I'm not waking up on the 1st
- 0:32Speaker 1: of November to a Christmas tree in my living room,
- 0:35Speaker 1: you're wrong.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I want to know what everybody thinks. When is the
- 0:39Speaker 2: right time to put up your Christmas tree? Let us know.
- 0:41Speaker 1: 1st of November.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Such a divisive thing. Yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I see. The thing is, and I know you're a
- 0:47Speaker 1: 1st of December person. It's December, ride or die. Last
- 0:50Speaker 1: year you went a little bit earlier.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I did mid-November last year or something.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Yeah. But I'm like 25 days with a Christmas tree
- 0:58Speaker 1: isn't enough for me.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah. I need more.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I need it for longer.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's too short. I think the 15th of November is
- 1:06Speaker 1: the perfect time to put up your Christmas tree.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I think so too.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Like it's just a little bit over a month.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Because do you know why I don't like putting it
- 1:12Speaker 2: up too early? Why? It's because it needs to have.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Presents under it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Lots of presents under it. Like it can't even just
- 1:19Speaker 2: have three. It needs to be like the whole base
- 1:21Speaker 2: of the tree needs to be covered with gifts. So
- 1:23Speaker 2: if I don't have that, it feels really yuck to me.
- 1:28Speaker 2: So I need to have, you know, enough presents ready
- 1:31Speaker 2: to go.
- 1:31Speaker 1: It's a whole thing.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I think September.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Is wild yeah i love it though do you know
- 1:38Speaker 1: i saw a study that could be absolute bullshit so
- 1:41Speaker 1: it's a bit trust me bro that people that put
- 1:43Speaker 1: up their christmas tree early are happier yeah let me
- 1:47Speaker 1: fact check this right now but i saw a thing
- 1:49Speaker 1: is like people that put up their christmas tree bear
- 1:53Speaker 1: with me everyone okay yeah so according to psychologists putting
- 2:01Speaker 1: up your christmas decorations earlier gives you a dopamine hit
- 2:05Speaker 1: and might make you happier which is amazing and it
- 2:08Speaker 1: also apparently makes you not only makes you happier but
- 2:13Speaker 1: makes you appear more friendly and approachable To your neighbours.
- 2:18Speaker 2: There you go. Exactly.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So you're just bringing the holly jolly vibes all round.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Spreading the Christmas cheer. Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It also taps into feelings of nostalgia that can help
- 2:28Speaker 1: us find meaning in life, deepen our social bonds and
- 2:30Speaker 1: even soothe collective anxiety.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So if that's not a sign to put your Christmas
- 2:36Speaker 1: tree up early.
- 2:37Speaker 2: It's science. Put it up.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Put that bitch up.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Get that bitch up.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Get that bitch up. Yeah.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I love– if you were naming your Christmas tree, what
- 2:47Speaker 1: would you name it?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Oh, my God, Kevin.
- 2:50Speaker 1: That is the best name for a Christmas tree I've
- 2:54Speaker 1: ever heard.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, what's yours?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Oh, no, I don't feel like I can even go
- 2:58Speaker 1: after that. Maybe like Louie.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Love that.
- 3:02Speaker 1: But I really like Kevin. Maybe I'll steal that.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Kevin. Kevin.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Kevin. Okay, anyway, getting into our monthly favourites of the episode.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yep. What's your first one?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Oh, I'll kick us off.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Mine, I think everyone probably saw this one coming, but
- 3:19Speaker 1: it is the ACOTAR 6 launch. But I've actually got
- 3:23Speaker 1: a little bit of tea to go alongside this.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Oh, hit me.
- 3:27Speaker 1: So look in. Obviously ACOTAR 6 launched on the 27th
- 3:30Speaker 1: of October and this is probably the biggest book launch
- 3:35Speaker 1: of the year. There have been so many collaborations, news posts,
- 3:42Speaker 1: theories all over my For You page. And this book
- 3:46Speaker 1: has probably been one of the most awaited books ever,
- 3:49Speaker 1: like as someone who runs like a book talk page
- 3:51Speaker 1: as well.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Like this is the book. Yeah, it's the one with
- 3:53Speaker 2: the most hype. Exactly.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But something happened with this book launch where it just
- 4:00Speaker 1: fucking fell off the rails. And for such a like
- 4:04Speaker 1: huge launch, it has gone pretty haywire that people are
- 4:09Speaker 1: theorizing that there's a leak at the publisher. So this has, like,
- 4:14Speaker 1: been on TikTok and it's completely unconfirmed, obviously. Yeah. But
- 4:18Speaker 1: ACOTAR 6 was showing up in, like, bookstores before, like,
- 4:23Speaker 1: a week before the launch. Ooh.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Which is wild. Like, stock had been put out on
- 4:27Speaker 2: the shelves at, like, a Target or something. Yes.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And then people were buying it and posting it on
- 4:34Speaker 1: social media, which is so wrong. Like, I really, really
- 4:37Speaker 1: feel for Sarah J Maas who, like, has you know
- 4:40Speaker 1: taken a lot of time to write this book there's
- 4:42Speaker 1: a lot of pressure on her you know it's a
- 4:45Speaker 1: very demanding demanding kind of role that she's in because
- 4:50Speaker 1: everyone's like where's the book where's the book where's the
- 4:51Speaker 1: book and it's scary to put yourself out there creatively
- 4:55Speaker 1: so I like props to her you know like it's
- 4:57Speaker 1: really scary to do that especially with something like art
- 5:01Speaker 1: and books which is so subjective you'll get people that
- 5:03Speaker 1: really love it you'll get people that really hate it
- 5:05Speaker 1: neither of those people are wrong or right but I
- 5:06Speaker 1: think how you express that has that answer.
- 5:10Speaker 2: There is a nicer way to do it. Exactly. Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Um, like you don't have to love a book, but
- 5:14Speaker 1: you can also, you know.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Talk about it with your friends. Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Or just like, anyway, I could go down that rabbit hole.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So basically this book was showing up on shelves before
- 5:24Speaker 1: the launch, which is wild that I saw a TikTok
- 5:26Speaker 1: and people were saying, um, that they reckon there's some
- 5:31Speaker 1: tea going on with her and the publisher. And maybe
- 5:33Speaker 1: that's also why She's putting out two books so close
- 5:37Speaker 1: together because she wants to get like her contract done
- 5:40Speaker 1: quicker and that apparently the dedication, I haven't seen it yet,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I can't confirm this, is to an IP lawyer. And
- 5:48Speaker 1: it says, thank you for getting my worlds back. Ooh.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 1: So people are kind of being like, is there drama
- 5:55Speaker 1: between Sarah J Maas and her publisher?
- 5:57Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 5:58Speaker 1: We don't know.
- 5:59Speaker 2: That would be such a shame.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It would be.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Because it's something that should be so special and exciting. Yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And then it, you know, sounds like such a stressful experience.
- 6:08Speaker 2: But also for the fandom as well.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:11Speaker 2: You know, if people are finding books on, you know, the–
- 6:16Speaker 2: like at a target. Yeah. And then, you know, posting
- 6:18Speaker 2: spoilers and stuff. And it's like, you know, with TikTok
- 6:21Speaker 2: if you've been– or whatever, if you've been engaging with
- 6:23Speaker 2: things around the launch and the release of the books,
- 6:26Speaker 2: then that's going to show up on your FYP. And
- 6:27Speaker 2: you're like, I didn't even– Get a choice in having
- 6:31Speaker 2: this spoiled for me.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And that's kind of the thing that I wanted to
- 6:33Speaker 1: talk about in this obsession is that it can feel
- 6:37Speaker 1: like there is this pace to getting a book and
- 6:40Speaker 1: reading it as quickly as you can so that it, one,
- 6:42Speaker 1: doesn't get spoiled for you, two, that you can feel
- 6:44Speaker 1: like you're included in the conversation and you don't actually
- 6:49Speaker 1: sit and enjoy it for what it is. And I
- 6:50Speaker 1: think that's like the one thing that I want to
- 6:52Speaker 1: remind people is like you only get to read a
- 6:54Speaker 1: book for the first time once.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And it's like the best feeling ever.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And it's the best feeling ever. So really like lean
- 7:01Speaker 1: in and enjoy it and don't rush yourself. And if,
- 7:04Speaker 1: you know, you do want to make content, just wait
- 7:07Speaker 1: a week at least. Put a big fat spoiler warning
- 7:10Speaker 1: on all of it. A little bit of etiquette goes
- 7:13Speaker 1: a long way. I'm sure 99% of the people listening
- 7:16Speaker 1: to this also are already there. But I'm obsessed. I
- 7:20Speaker 1: think this is like one of the most exciting book
- 7:22Speaker 1: launches that we'll have I probably by the time, I
- 7:24Speaker 1: also want to preface, by the time that we were
- 7:26Speaker 1: recording this, it wasn't out yet and I haven't read
- 7:29Speaker 1: it yet. So I don't know if I'm going to
- 7:30Speaker 1: absolutely love it. I don't know if it's not going
- 7:32Speaker 1: to be one of my favourites. I'm very jittered.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm like very excited. I have no idea what to expect.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I think some of the theories have been amazing.
- 7:43Speaker 2: What are the expectations in the community? Is it high
- 7:46Speaker 2: hopes or are people nervous? Yeah. Or is it mixed?
- 7:49Speaker 1: I think it's mixed. I'm nervous and excited and I
- 7:52Speaker 1: don't think my brain knows which one we are, maybe
- 7:55Speaker 1: a bit of both.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah. We always say as well we go into things
- 8:00Speaker 2: with the expectation that we're going to love it.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but like I want to like it.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And I want to like it. Go into things like
- 8:06Speaker 2: that with the perspective that you're going to enjoy it
- 8:09Speaker 2: rather than with a critical lens if you can. I agree.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But my obsession, my part two of this obsession is
- 8:18Speaker 1: or monthly favourites, if you will, is that this book is,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I think, roughly 300 pages.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 1: It's one of the shorter books in the series. So
- 8:27Speaker 1: by the time this episode comes out, I reckon a
- 8:29Speaker 1: vast majority of people have already finished it. So I
- 8:32Speaker 1: wanted to wrap this with three books to cure your
- 8:34Speaker 1: Akitasics hangover. Love that. Yeah. Okay, so number one, Spark
- 8:39Speaker 1: of the Everflame by Penn Cole. This is now a
- 8:42Speaker 1: completed series. The last book in the series is 900 pages.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Lock in. I read this in Europe last year and
- 8:49Speaker 1: I was in gulf. It has enemies to lovers, slow burn, yearning.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It takes like so many books to, you know. And
- 8:58Speaker 1: so outside of that. The story is about a mortal
- 9:03Speaker 1: healer who is thrown into the world of magical royalty and, like,
- 9:07Speaker 1: court-styled realms. So, like, if you love how we have, like,
- 9:11Speaker 1: the night court and the day court and all that
- 9:13Speaker 1: stuff in Akatar, you'll really like the way that this
- 9:17Speaker 1: world is built because they have, like, the different realms
- 9:20Speaker 1: or courts and those different realms have, like, different powers.
- 9:23Speaker 1: It's giving very kind of Akatar vibes and it also
- 9:27Speaker 1: just has those, like, enemies to lovers, hidden powers, different
- 9:31Speaker 1: gods and, like, the painful slow burn that you just
- 9:37Speaker 1: really like. And, like, also the, you know, the first
- 9:40Speaker 1: love interest isn't the main love interest.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Oh, spoiler.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And you're, like, it's kind of written on the wall
- 9:46Speaker 1: when you read it. It's not a major spoiler.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Is he, like, a perfect on paper kind of guy?
- 9:49Speaker 1: No, he's just, like, he's the first boyfriend and then
- 9:51Speaker 1: there's the big scary tall duck. The bad pancake. And you're, like.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Let's fuck that one.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I wanted him dead to one.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:58Speaker 1: The one that's six foot seven and like completely non-existent
- 10:01Speaker 1: in real life. Bang.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yep.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Okay, the next one is The Serpent and the Wings
- 10:06Speaker 1: of the Night by Carissa Broadbent. So this is kind
- 10:10Speaker 1: of like The Hunger Games meets vampires. No children die.
- 10:14Speaker 1: They're all old.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:17Speaker 1: There's like a human girl. It's all human girl falls
- 10:22Speaker 1: into fantasy world. You know what? If it ain't broke,
- 10:24Speaker 1: don't fix it. Yeah, exactly. If it's guilty to love it,
- 10:28Speaker 1: lock me up.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So she enters like a deadly tournament and is forced
- 10:32Speaker 1: to team up with a dangerously attractive vampire rival. It's
- 10:36Speaker 1: got like trials, forbidden romance, betrayal, but her father is
- 10:41Speaker 1: like the king of the vampires.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Love that.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 1: But, Daddy, I love him. Yeah, it's giving enemies to
- 10:48Speaker 1: lovers to enemies again.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Which I love that. Because, like, when you're reading enemies
- 10:53Speaker 1: to lovers, you're like, let's go. Like, when are we
- 10:55Speaker 1: getting to the who did this to you? One bed.
- 10:57Speaker 1: It's the same shit every time and I eat it up.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But then sometimes when they're lovers, I'm like, hmm. A
- 11:03Speaker 1: bit bored. If we get to lovers too quickly, but
- 11:06Speaker 1: I want to get to lovers. So then when they
- 11:07Speaker 1: go back to enemies, I'm like, yes, we are on.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Because then they hate them even more.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, because they're more invested.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah, but then they still want to, but they can't,
- 11:18Speaker 1: but they will. Okay, speaking of enemies to lovers to
- 11:21Speaker 1: enemies again is Starside by Alex Astar. This is probably
- 11:26Speaker 1: my favourite read of 2026 so far. We've got two
- 11:28Speaker 1: more months left, but this is the one that was–
- 11:31Speaker 1: quite literally the most delicious read. It's definitely got mixed reviews.
- 11:35Speaker 1: So like I wouldn't say, but every book does.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:38Speaker 1: It's essentially where the main character enters a competition to
- 11:44Speaker 1: reach the realm of the immortal gods, but she's not
- 11:47Speaker 1: actually there for the magic or the prize. She's there
- 11:50Speaker 1: to kill the gods who murdered her family.
- 11:52Speaker 2: So she's there for revenge. Love that.
- 11:55Speaker 1: And there is, A slow burn, there is an enemies
- 11:59Speaker 1: to lovers, which results in a 15-page spicy scene.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Wow.
- 12:04Speaker 1: And I've recommended this book to my mother and she
- 12:07Speaker 1: also enjoyed it. All of these I would say you've
- 12:11Speaker 1: got your spice in there, you've got your fantasy, you've
- 12:14Speaker 1: got the different worlds and the realms and the trials
- 12:17Speaker 1: that you have like in the first ACOTAR book that
- 12:20Speaker 1: I would highly recommend all three of those. Love it.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I love. TBR.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I love, love, love. Yeah, there's so many books on
- 12:27Speaker 1: my TBR at the moment that it's insane. But yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 1: so that's my first favourite, even though I kind of
- 12:33Speaker 1: cheated and there's like four in there.
- 12:35Speaker 2: That's okay. I'm excited to hear what everybody thinks for
- 12:38Speaker 2: Lives Up to the Hype. I'm sure it will.
- 12:41Speaker 1: The Serpent and the Wings of the Night is also
- 12:42Speaker 1: a completed series.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good. So you're not going to have to wait.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and then the next book in Star Side comes
- 12:49Speaker 1: out on April 20th. Oh, a day after your birthday.
- 12:52Speaker 2: What a lovely little birthday gift.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I know. I agree.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Cute.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Thank you. What's your first monthly obsession?
- 13:04Speaker 2: My first monthly favourite of October is a big bus-friendly
- 13:09Speaker 2: swimwear brand.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And it's... Tickle Bitty.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yes, for the tickle bitty girlies.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Good timing.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, out there, just in time for summer. But it's
- 13:19Speaker 2: Junk London Swimwear. Oh. Have you heard of this?
- 13:22Speaker 1: No, I haven't.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Or tried it? So I'd actually seen this brand like
- 13:26Speaker 2: all over Instagram, I think because of targeted ads.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I like it when a targeted ad does the job.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Actually does.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Like thank you for showing me something that I actually
- 13:35Speaker 1: want to buy.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. And depending on the style, their sizes range
- 13:41Speaker 2: between like a 6 to 18 to 20. Obviously would
- 13:45Speaker 2: love to see even more size ranges in there. Hopefully
- 13:49Speaker 2: that's something that they'll be rolling out soon. And then
- 13:51Speaker 2: the cup sizes are suitable from a size A to
- 13:54Speaker 2: a size J. depending on the style that you get.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And the cool thing about it is that, say, they
- 14:02Speaker 2: have like a triangle bikini top, but it has this
- 14:06Speaker 2: little adjustable strap that you can like pull it up
- 14:10Speaker 2: and down the strap to make the cup size bigger
- 14:14Speaker 2: or smaller. So have a look at that. They have
- 14:16Speaker 2: like a size guide. Oh.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I'm obsessed. And like the green check prints and stripes,
- 14:23Speaker 1: like the patterns are really cute. And then they have
- 14:25Speaker 1: really nice solid colors as well of like baby blue,
- 14:28Speaker 1: chocolate brown, cherry red. Yeah. Staunt. And then your blacks
- 14:32Speaker 1: and whites.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Yeah, like really cute kind of nostalgic vibes, but then
- 14:37Speaker 2: also some more modern styles too, depending on what you like.
- 14:40Speaker 2: But yeah, if you are interested in having a look,
- 14:43Speaker 2: it's always tricky buying swimwear or bras or underwear really,
- 14:47Speaker 2: especially when you're shopping online. But I just DM'd them
- 14:50Speaker 2: and was like, hey, like I'm usually, I'm looking at
- 14:52Speaker 2: the size guide. I'm usually this size and I do
- 14:56Speaker 2: typically like my bikinis to be very supportive. I like
- 15:00Speaker 2: an underwire. What do you recommend? And they came back
- 15:03Speaker 2: to me like straight away and were like, look, obviously
- 15:05Speaker 2: it depends. This is our returns policy as well so
- 15:09Speaker 2: that you can like give it a go but we
- 15:10Speaker 2: would recommend this.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I also love their one pieces as well.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Yeah, really cute. But yeah, so I got the Lily
- 15:18Speaker 2: Underwire top and then the Jasmine Brief which is like
- 15:21Speaker 2: a little boy leg short. Cute.
- 15:24Speaker 1: And you've been wanting one of those for ages.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah, in the espresso colour which is like the chalky
- 15:29Speaker 2: brown and And I haven't worn it swimming yet because
- 15:33Speaker 2: it hasn't been quite warm enough, but I've tried it
- 15:34Speaker 2: on and it feels, like, really supportive, no, like, spillage,
- 15:38Speaker 2: good coverage, and it's cute, which I think is often
- 15:42Speaker 2: the thing that doesn't happen. Like, that kind of cute
- 15:45Speaker 2: and supportive doesn't usually fit in the same Venn diagram
- 15:48Speaker 2: when you're looking for big bus swimwear or bras. Yeah. So, yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 2: very excited to try them out. Also, they're all made
- 15:55Speaker 2: from recycled materials. So they're made from something called Reprieve,
- 16:01Speaker 2: which is made from ocean-bound plastic that's collected from areas
- 16:04Speaker 2: within a 50K radius of the coastline that doesn't have, like,
- 16:08Speaker 2: a formal waste recycling system, so would have probably been
- 16:11Speaker 2: destined to go in landfill or in the ocean. And
- 16:14Speaker 2: then they also use something called Econil, which is 100%
- 16:18Speaker 2: regenerated nylon that's made from discarded materials like fishing nets
- 16:22Speaker 2: and plastic.
- 16:22Speaker 1: That's found in the ocean.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So I was like, that's so cool. I think that
- 16:26Speaker 2: that's where it first caught my eye. when I saw
- 16:29Speaker 2: the targeted ads. But yeah, so cute. Also, we've worked
- 16:33Speaker 2: with them before, but Rack Swim as well is amazing
- 16:37Speaker 2: for like an Australian big bus friendly swimwear brand. And
- 16:42Speaker 2: they've also started rolling out like the little boy shorts
- 16:45Speaker 2: and also like tankinis.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Which I saw, I was like, damn it. I really
- 16:50Speaker 2: wanted like the black tankini top. but they've sold out.
- 16:54Speaker 2: So I signed up for like the remind me when.
- 16:56Speaker 1: It comes back in. Put it on your Chrissy Wish list.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, please. I really hope that they do
- 17:00Speaker 2: a restock because they're also incredible quality and very supportive if, yeah,
- 17:04Speaker 2: you're a big busted chickie.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Love it.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Okay, my next monthly favourite is a dopamine chart.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 17:14Speaker 1: So I saw this like viral post online that had
- 17:18Speaker 1: this in the green screen. It was like this dopamine chart.
- 17:21Speaker 1: that is an infographic on the rise of dopamine culture.
- 17:26Speaker 1: And it was like basically talking about how dopamine culture
- 17:29Speaker 1: is robbing us of the simple pleasures in life. So
- 17:34Speaker 1: it kind of breaks down this infographic from cultural critic
- 17:38Speaker 1: Ted Gioa. I'm going to go ahead. Apologies if I've
- 17:43Speaker 1: butchered that pronunciation. And it's basically how human activities across
- 17:47Speaker 1: like seven different categories have transitioned from deep slow and
- 17:51Speaker 1: physical engagement into fast digital and hyper-focused processed loops designed
- 17:57Speaker 1: for instant gratification. So it has like on the left side,
- 18:02Speaker 1: I'll show you so you can kind of get the.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah, the visual. The visual.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Okay. So essentially it's like a flow chart across like athletics, journalism, video, music, images,
- 18:13Speaker 1: communication and relationships and how slow traditional culture has kind
- 18:18Speaker 1: of slowly become... the dopamine culture so for example rather
- 18:23Speaker 1: than watching a film or a tv show we now
- 18:27Speaker 1: watch like reels or tiktoks yeah like i don't know
- 18:30Speaker 1: about you but i've like one of my friends who
- 18:32Speaker 1: i would we would watch movies growing up all the
- 18:35Speaker 1: time like and she was like i can't watch a
- 18:38Speaker 1: movie now because i just don't feel like i have
- 18:39Speaker 1: the attention span for it she's like it's so bad
- 18:42Speaker 1: like i just watch TikToks all the time. Like I
- 18:44Speaker 1: don't watch movies.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Or like if you are watching a movie, you are
- 18:48Speaker 2: looking at your phone half the time.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Or like writing someone a letter, like a handwritten letter
- 18:54Speaker 1: then is now a text or a voice note. Yeah. Or,
- 18:59Speaker 1: you know, listening to an album from start to finish
- 19:03Speaker 1: is listening to trending audios. Like and how that's kind
- 19:06Speaker 1: of basically turned into like even newspapers or magazines is
- 19:11Speaker 1: now like clickbait.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So this creator was kind of talking about how they
- 19:16Speaker 1: started doing the things on the left side, which was
- 19:20Speaker 1: playing a sport, reading physical media, watching a film or
- 19:24Speaker 1: a TV show, listening to albums, viewing a gallery or
- 19:28Speaker 1: like a museum, handwriting letters, and then like actual courtship
- 19:33Speaker 1: of like relationships and spending time with friends and in
- 19:39Speaker 1: relationships more intentionally and how like when they'd started doing
- 19:44Speaker 1: these things on the left side and I'll pop a
- 19:46Speaker 1: link to this like chart in the show notes, but,
- 19:49Speaker 1: basically when they started trying to do these things they
- 19:53Speaker 1: felt themselves starting to wake up and that was something
- 19:57Speaker 1: that like really locked this in for me because I
- 20:00Speaker 1: was like I feel like energy is something that we're
- 20:03Speaker 1: all lacking a little bit yeah at least like Speaking
- 20:06Speaker 1: from my own experience.
- 20:08Speaker 2: The zest for life.
- 20:09Speaker 1: The zest or, like, the excitement and the, like, the
- 20:14Speaker 1: pace is so focused on doing the next thing or, like,
- 20:19Speaker 1: feeling like it's a bit of a drag, like you're
- 20:20Speaker 1: being dragged along in life rather than being, like, eyes bright. Yeah.
- 20:24Speaker 1: You know? Eyes bright, bushy-tailed. Eyes bright and bushy-tailed is, like,
- 20:29Speaker 1: the vibes and the vibes only. So I thought that
- 20:32Speaker 1: was such a good thing to, like, maybe– basically give
- 20:35Speaker 1: you a list of your like dopamine menu on a
- 20:39Speaker 1: budget that's like good quality dopamine versus bad quality dopamine.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Because essentially what I'm talking about there is there's like dopamine.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Dopamine is like the thing in your brain that like
- 20:50Speaker 1: makes you happy. It's like, whoa, I completed something. I
- 20:53Speaker 1: love what I'm doing. It gives you that perk, right?
- 20:56Speaker 1: That things that are considered bad quality dopamines are things
- 21:00Speaker 1: that give you a really quick hit But you need
- 21:02Speaker 1: it more often, which is why, you know, things like
- 21:05Speaker 1: social media algorithms and TikTok becomes addictive.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Even like online shopping, for example. Like that's why you'll
- 21:12Speaker 1: buy something online, you'll get it, and then you'll be like, well,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I need another. Yeah. Which I've been there.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Totally.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I remember seeing this article about a woman who got
- 21:20Speaker 1: addicted to buying bunnies. And I was like, Sally.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 21:23Speaker 1: That's you.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I know.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I see your future and it is bright.
- 21:26Speaker 2: She was taking care of them. The setup for them.
- 21:30Speaker 1: The hutch. There's that lady on Instagram who has like
- 21:34Speaker 1: the cat sanctuary and it's like her whole backyard is
- 21:37Speaker 1: like a cat jungle.
- 21:39Speaker 2: The best. What's it like to be living my dream? Honestly,
- 21:42Speaker 2: that would be my dream. I would love.
- 21:44Speaker 1: To just go and hang out with her.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Same.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I want every single cat to ever exist to be mine.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:51Speaker 1: But, yeah, versus like the bad quality dopamine versus the
- 21:54Speaker 1: good quality dopamine, which is like, yes, it might be
- 21:57Speaker 1: a little bit of a bigger task, like going for
- 21:59Speaker 1: a walk outside or, you know, spending time with a
- 22:03Speaker 1: friend for two hours versus like sending them a short text.
- 22:06Speaker 1: But the amount of joy that you get from that
- 22:09Speaker 1: is such a higher quality.
- 22:11Speaker 2: And will have a longer lasting impact. Yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And so like this kind of list, I basically was like,
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm going to use this as my like cheat sheet
- 22:19Speaker 1: to try and prioritize some of those maybe higher effort,
- 22:24Speaker 1: but better happiness tasks in my month i love that.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I want to wake up too honestly wake me up
- 22:33Speaker 2: no damn yeah i love that i'm like i feel
- 22:38Speaker 2: like we need to bring back christmas cards we need
- 22:43Speaker 2: to Yes. I've had enough, everyone.
- 22:45Speaker 1: And putting a candy cane on the front with a
- 22:48Speaker 1: little bit of tape.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yes. Do you know what I want back?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yes. Yes, yes, yes. Let's do that this year.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I think we should.
- 22:54Speaker 1: We'll have a Christmas card writing night.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Perfect.
- 22:56Speaker 1: And we'll get all the, like, we'll go to the
- 22:58Speaker 1: reject shop. We'll get a bunch of Christmas card packs
- 23:00Speaker 1: with a little bit of glitter on the front.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Yep. Very important. Yep.
- 23:04Speaker 1: And we'll write Christmas cards.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yep.
- 23:05Speaker 1: We'll get candy canes.
- 23:07Speaker 2: We should.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Not the little ones. Big ones only.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Let's get Christmas photos taken. We can get copies made at, like,
- 23:13Speaker 2: Kmart or Officeworks and then to all of our, like,
- 23:15Speaker 2: friends we'll give them Christmas cards. Yeah. With, like, a
- 23:19Speaker 2: personalised note. I feel invigorated.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm obsessed.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Yeah, perfect. I can't wait.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Oh, and the day that you take your Christmas cards
- 23:28Speaker 1: to school in the little, like, Woolies bag or your
- 23:32Speaker 1: Supre bag and you're like, Line up.
- 23:35Speaker 2: You felt like a fucking god among men.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I was going to get one.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Also on Easter when you would bring in like the
- 23:41Speaker 2: Easter choccy and you'd like put an Easter choccy on
- 23:44Speaker 2: everybody's desk or like your birthday and your mum brought
- 23:46Speaker 2: in a cake and cupcakes.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Or the athletics carnival and your mum would buy you
- 23:50Speaker 1: lollies for it.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Or the excursion. What do I get? A popper? One
- 23:55Speaker 2: day of the year I'm allowed a popper.
- 23:57Speaker 1: One day of the year?
- 23:58Speaker 2: Yeah, my mum wasn't really into like buying the, like
- 24:01Speaker 2: I'd get the blue like so good.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Oh, the one that with the pop. Yes, yes, yes.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Yeah, not like the juice, not the juice with the thing.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes.
- 24:08Speaker 2: But the little or like I'd get like a blue
- 24:10Speaker 2: or a raspberry. What the fuck was in that? Honestly.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Who knows? The best.
- 24:14Speaker 2: That and like some Dunkaroos. I'd be like. This is
- 24:18Speaker 2: just the best fucking day ever. Not only did I
- 24:20Speaker 2: get to go to the Maritime Museum.
- 24:22Speaker 1: What was that little pack that you had like crackers
- 24:25Speaker 1: and cheese and then M & M' s?
- 24:27Speaker 2: Yes, I know what you're talking about. It wasn't like
- 24:29Speaker 2: Lunchables but like it was something like that. It was
- 24:31Speaker 2: like a little full pack.
- 24:31Speaker 1: And you got M & M' s in it and I
- 24:33Speaker 1: was just. We should get those.
- 24:34Speaker 2: For the office. Yeah, love that. Big girl money. Anyway. Yeah,
- 24:38Speaker 2: snack plate. I've got the dopamine. The original snack plate.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I've got the dopamine already.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Oh, my God, I'm so excited.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Okay, I love it.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Yeah, put it on some, like, Friends Christmas episodes and
- 24:47Speaker 1: write some Christmas cards.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I'm going to be sick.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I'm going to throw up.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I'm so excited. My next October favourite is a TV
- 25:00Speaker 2: show recommendation and it's an oldie but a goodie. It's
- 25:04Speaker 2: You Can't Ask That.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Oh, I haven't heard of this.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Okay, so this is an ABC show. interview-style show that
- 25:11Speaker 2: basically aims to break down stereotypes by giving people basically
- 25:16Speaker 2: the opportunity to get the answers to questions that they
- 25:18Speaker 2: might be too afraid to ask. Oh, wow. Yeah. So
- 25:22Speaker 2: it was with like all different groups of people. So,
- 25:25Speaker 2: for example, like one episode might be with people who
- 25:27Speaker 2: are experiencing homelessness. Yeah. Or another episode might be with
- 25:32Speaker 2: Indigenous Australians. Another one might be with refugees. Yeah. There
- 25:37Speaker 2: was one with reality TV contestants.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Wow.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Yeah, where they basically would like spill the tea on
- 25:42Speaker 2: what the experience was really like. But I guess the
- 25:45Speaker 2: whole point of the show is to give people that
- 25:48Speaker 2: opportunity to actually hear from people in those different communities
- 25:51Speaker 2: or in those different situations and get the answers to
- 25:55Speaker 2: the questions that might be like rude to ask or
- 25:57Speaker 2: insensitive to ask or even just like you feel a
- 26:00Speaker 2: bit awkward or embarrassed or ignorant. And I think it's
- 26:02Speaker 2: such a good show to like, educate yourself in a
- 26:06Speaker 2: space that feels safe and also have people who are
- 26:10Speaker 2: actually living those experiences tell you what it's really like
- 26:14Speaker 2: yeah um and it's it was on I think for
- 26:18Speaker 2: like eight seasons or something wow and then it's been
- 26:21Speaker 2: on a hiatus for the last couple of years but
- 26:24Speaker 2: I did see that earlier this year I think in
- 26:26Speaker 2: March it's gone back into production and With plans for
- 26:29Speaker 2: it to kick off again, which is so cool. But
- 26:33Speaker 2: the reason that it popped up again for me, because
- 26:34Speaker 2: I think I'd seen it on like free to air
- 26:37Speaker 2: TV back in the day, but they've started publishing all
- 26:41Speaker 2: of the episodes for free on YouTube. So you can
- 26:44Speaker 2: watch them all on YouTube. They also have like a TikTok,
- 26:46Speaker 2: like the ABC TikTok post, lots of clips from it
- 26:49Speaker 2: as well. And it's so, so good. It's such a
- 26:52Speaker 2: good show. It's also like, you know, it's often a
- 26:54Speaker 2: bit like of a tearjerker but there's like it's funny.
- 26:57Speaker 2: It's like so– it just like helps me believe in
- 27:00Speaker 2: humanity again. Aww. So, yeah, you can watch it on ABC.
- 27:04Speaker 1: How long are the episodes?
- 27:06Speaker 2: I think they're like maybe 30 minutes or something. But, yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 2: it's such a good show. So I definitely recommend it.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Brushing up, watching if you've, you know, either if you've
- 27:17Speaker 2: watched it before, watch it again and get ready for
- 27:19Speaker 2: the new season. Ah.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Great rec.
- 27:24Speaker 1: My final monthly favourite is the best $ 8 I've ever
- 27:29Speaker 1: spent on an acupuncture pen.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah.
- 27:33Speaker 1: So don't worry, it's not actually a needle. But the
- 27:37Speaker 1: pen is like... It's basically this little pressure point tool
- 27:42Speaker 1: that you can use to massage like targeted areas. So
- 27:46Speaker 1: if you have, if you clench your jaw or have TMJ,
- 27:49Speaker 1: this is like a lifesaver. I saw someone on TikTok
- 27:52Speaker 1: like talking about it and I was like, influence. Yeah.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So some versions use like electrical pulses if you want,
- 27:59Speaker 1: but mine's just like little metal pen and it's basically
- 28:02Speaker 1: got like a little metal ball on the end of
- 28:04Speaker 1: it and you just use it to just get iris.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Like I don't know, did your, this is such a
- 28:11Speaker 1: nostalgic episode and this is so neat. Did your mum
- 28:15Speaker 1: ever have those like bathroom animals that was like a
- 28:20Speaker 1: turtle and like a dolphin but it was like a
- 28:24Speaker 1: massage thing? Did you?
- 28:27Speaker 2: Did you? Did you?
- 28:28Speaker 3: Did you?
- 28:29Speaker 1: Did you? Yes.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Yes. Yes.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Oh my god you just unlocked a memory for me
- 28:45Speaker 3: that i have not i'm literally shaking that i have
- 28:49Speaker 3: not thought about in maybe 20.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Years that's it i had the turtle For the chicks listening, it's.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Like this little plastic animal and the one that, yeah,
- 28:59Speaker 2: that I had was a turtle.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a turtle and a dolphin.
- 29:02Speaker 2: And you would basically like you could rub it on
- 29:04Speaker 2: like your head and your jaw.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Or like your shoulder. And your shoulder and your neck.
- 29:08Speaker 2: And it was like a little massage-y thing. Yes. And
- 29:10Speaker 2: I have not thought about that little fucker in like
- 29:13Speaker 2: maybe 20 years and years.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I'm going to buy one. Firstly.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Where's the dolphin?
- 29:21Speaker 2: And they were so cute. Yeah, and there was a dolphin.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and we had them like in, oh, my God,
- 29:27Speaker 1: this is the exact one I had.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Yes. Holy shit.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Wow.
- 29:31Speaker 2: So the pen is kind of like the modern day
- 29:33Speaker 2: version of that. I'm going to get the turtle Yes.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Oh, my God. We have to buy them.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Yes. We should get them for the office, I feel.
- 29:42Speaker 1: 1,000%. And, like, oh, my God, it's like $ 18.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Worth it.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Worth it. Overpriced but worth it.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Oh, my God, nuts. Worth it for the nostalgia alone.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Yes.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Okay, so the pen is like a modern.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Version of that. I was really scared I was going
- 29:57Speaker 1: to be like alone in that. No, and I fully
- 29:59Speaker 1: did not.
- 29:59Speaker 2: You just like, my brain literally went, I was imagining
- 30:02Speaker 2: like in High Five when Jubjub is like in the
- 30:05Speaker 2: wall and she's like going through the cabinets and that
- 30:06Speaker 2: was my brain being like tick, And then I opened
- 30:09Speaker 2: it and Jar.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Jar was there. And you just saw the turtle. And
- 30:12Speaker 1: Jar Jar was holding the turtle.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and he was like, here you go, friend.
- 30:15Speaker 1: That little thing got me through a lot.
- 30:18Speaker 2: He raised me.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 2: That and also the massager that's like the claw on
- 30:23Speaker 2: the end of a stick and you put that on
- 30:24Speaker 2: top of your head.
- 30:27Speaker 1: That's like inappropriate, that thing.
- 30:29Speaker 2: The feeling. It's orgasmic. It's like.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Not to be done in public. It's a private spiritual.
- 30:34Speaker 2: When somebody does it on you.
- 30:36Speaker 1: The noise that comes out of me is inappropriate.
- 30:39Speaker 2: It's giving parallel play.
- 30:40Speaker 1: It's giving hoya. Yeah, it is. It's giving fuck.
- 30:43Speaker 2: It's going fuck.
- 30:45Speaker 1: It's going fuck.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Yeah. So anyway, if anyone remembers those turtles, please validate
- 30:53Speaker 1: us in the comments. I can't believe we've never spoken
- 30:55Speaker 1: about that. After 10 years of friendship, there's still new things.
- 30:57Speaker 2: For us to talk about every day.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I love moments like that. There's still new things for
- 31:00Speaker 1: us to talk about every single day.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Honestly.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Anyway, back to my acupuncture pen. So people use these
- 31:06Speaker 1: tools for like jaw tension, tight muscles and facial massages.
- 31:11Speaker 1: But it's just, it's so funny how like it literally
- 31:14Speaker 1: just gets in there and it feels so good. Like,
- 31:18Speaker 1: and there's obviously so much science behind like acupuncture and
- 31:23Speaker 1: pressure points. And obviously like, there may be like other
- 31:27Speaker 1: things going on. So like it don't automatically think this
- 31:31Speaker 1: is going to fix everything. If you obviously have pain,
- 31:33Speaker 1: go see a doctor. Exactly. But like a systemic review
- 31:38Speaker 1: of acupuncture and acupressure studies found that it also helps
- 31:42Speaker 1: reduce anxiety, which I think a lot of people who
- 31:46Speaker 1: clench their jaw it's like a stress thing it's.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Like yeah um and it tells your brain that like
- 31:51Speaker 2: you're stressed yes that's like why they tell you to
- 31:54Speaker 2: unclench your jaw yeah so it can help with drop
- 31:56Speaker 2: your eyebrows that whole thing.
- 31:58Speaker 1: So it can help with like headaches muscular pain like
- 32:01Speaker 1: I'm constantly cracking my jaw yeah I can probably do
- 32:04Speaker 1: it right now I don't know if that came through
- 32:07Speaker 1: there we go yeah like i could do that like
- 32:11Speaker 1: you could rip off your jaw if you could do
- 32:13Speaker 1: any i could detach my jaw smack it against a
- 32:16Speaker 1: wall and put it back on i would pay for
- 32:20Speaker 1: that i would pay i reckon a thousand dollars yeah
- 32:23Speaker 1: if someone right now said i can take that off
- 32:25Speaker 1: smack it against the wall and put it back on
- 32:27Speaker 1: i'd be like how much love that how much you
- 32:29Speaker 1: want do you know what i would love to be
- 32:31Speaker 1: able to do Your eyeballs in a glass of water.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Yeah, in a glass of icy water. Also when I
- 32:36Speaker 2: have a headache, I would love to be able to
- 32:37Speaker 2: like cut my head open and like just get.
- 32:39Speaker 1: A little bit of like pressure relief.
- 32:42Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 32:42Speaker 1: The other one I would like is if someone like
- 32:45Speaker 1: ripped out my spine and like cracked it like a
- 32:46Speaker 1: whip and then put it back in.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Love that too. Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:49Speaker 1: We all just like need to be like cracked open.
- 32:54Speaker 1: You're still thinking about the turtle, aren't you?
- 32:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Anyway. Love that.
- 32:59Speaker 1: But, yeah, so I just got it on Amazon. Link
- 33:02Speaker 1: it in the show notes. Does the job.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Bob's your uncle.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Bob's your uncle.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Into it.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I hope they'll come back here with no cracky jaw.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Into it. No cracky jaw.
- 33:12Speaker 1: No cracky jaw.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Okay, my final... monthly favourite. I'm going to keep it
- 33:16Speaker 2: short and sweet but it was a Substack article that
- 33:19Speaker 2: I read from Sentimental Being and the headline is everything
- 33:26Speaker 2: is a win when the goal is to experience.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Oh I've seen this and I'm obsessed.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I thought you would have because this has 72,333 likes
- 33:35Speaker 2: on Substack. It was published in March earlier this year
- 33:41Speaker 2: so it's been around for about six months and clearly
- 33:44Speaker 2: has struck a nerve with people. And I'll put the
- 33:47Speaker 2: link in the show notes so that you chicks can
- 33:49Speaker 2: read it. So I won't give too much away so
- 33:50Speaker 2: you can actually enjoy it. But it was just such
- 33:53Speaker 2: a refreshing read about how life is to be lived
- 33:57Speaker 2: for the experiences, not for like a result or to
- 34:00Speaker 2: be productive and that you can really see any, like
- 34:04Speaker 2: almost any experience as, you know, some sort of positive
- 34:09Speaker 2: if you look at it as like, what am I
- 34:10Speaker 2: taking away from it? And the thing that inspired her
- 34:13Speaker 2: to write this article was she was in her kitchen
- 34:16Speaker 2: cutting an orange and she had like a little cut
- 34:19Speaker 2: on her finger and she felt like that really sharp
- 34:22Speaker 2: acidic pain in her finger. And she was like, holy fuck,
- 34:26Speaker 2: I'm alive. And I was like, whoa, how many experiences
- 34:30Speaker 2: do we have like that where we have like a visceral,
- 34:33Speaker 2: physical pain? you know, maybe even like emotional reaction to
- 34:38Speaker 2: something and we just take it for granted and it's
- 34:39Speaker 2: like that's a sign of being alive. So, yeah, I'm
- 34:45Speaker 2: going to, like I said, I don't want to harp
- 34:46Speaker 2: on about it too much because I want you to
- 34:47Speaker 2: be able to read it and like actually take it in.
- 34:50Speaker 2: But definitely recommend, especially if you're getting to, you know,
- 34:54Speaker 2: this latter part of the year and you're feeling a
- 34:56Speaker 2: little bit like exhausted and kind of like you were
- 34:57Speaker 2: saying about the dopamine chart.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Wakey, wakey.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Yeah, wakey, wakey, hands off snakey.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Wakey, wakey, hands off snakey, yeah.
- 35:04Speaker 2: As we always say and I've always said that.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I remember the first time I said that to you
- 35:08Speaker 1: and you were like, that's disgusting.
- 35:11Speaker 2: What a fucking prude.
- 35:13Speaker 1: You were like, I hate that. And now you love it.
- 35:16Speaker 2: And now I love it.
- 35:17Speaker 1: And now you love it. It reminds me of a
- 35:21Speaker 1: picture I took when we went to this like retreat
- 35:24Speaker 1: last week to go for like a little road trip
- 35:27Speaker 1: and it was like this retreat that we were like
- 35:29Speaker 1: no out of city it was literally like 20 minutes
- 35:32Speaker 1: from the hills i was like jesus alex also monthly
- 35:34Speaker 1: favorite also monthly favorite billabong retreat but there was in
- 35:38Speaker 1: the spa there was like a sign and it said
- 35:39Speaker 1: there are only two ways to live your life one
- 35:42Speaker 1: is as though nothing is a miracle the other is
- 35:44Speaker 1: though everything is albert einstein.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Yeah they don't call him a genius.
- 35:54Speaker 1: For nothing yeah he was on to something he was
- 35:57Speaker 1: good on good on albert But, yeah, and I, like,
- 36:00Speaker 1: feel like that kind of ties in.
- 36:02Speaker 2: It does. Yeah.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Good practice in, like, gratitude.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Absolutely. Absolutely. And on that note, it's another episode done
- 36:12Speaker 2: and dusterooned. Thanks for having us in Earholes. We'd love
- 36:15Speaker 2: to be here.
- 36:15Speaker 1: We'd love to be here, chicks.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Bye. Later. Later.
