Latest / Gil I Am / Karoline Leavitt briefs press on White House response to LA riots
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What we have seen transpire in Los Angeles, California in
- 0:04Speaker 1: recent days is shameful. Left wing radicals waving foreign flags
- 0:08Speaker 1: viciously attacked ICE and Border Patrol agents as well as
- 0:12Speaker 1: Los Angeles police officers. These criminals injured police, threw rocks
- 0:16Speaker 1: at police cars and officers, burned vehicles, shut down freeways,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and lobbed molotov cocktails, all because the Trump administration was
- 0:25Speaker 1: removing violent, criminal, illegal aliens from the city. These attacks
- 0:29Speaker 1: were aimed not just at law enforcement, but at American
- 0:32Speaker 1: culture in society itself. Rioters burned American flags, chanted death
- 0:39Speaker 1: to Ice, and spray painted anti American slogans on buildings.
- 0:43Speaker 2: But President Trump will never allow mob rule.
- 0:47Speaker 1: To prevail in America. The most basic duty of government
- 0:51Speaker 1: is to preserve law and order, and this administration embraces
- 0:54Speaker 1: that sacred responsibility. Democrats like Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor
- 0:59Speaker 1: Karen Bass shamefully failed to meet their sworn.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Obligations to their citizens.
- 1:04Speaker 1: They didn't have the courage to do the right thing
- 1:06Speaker 1: and protect law abiding Californians from rioters. That's why President
- 1:10Speaker 1: Trump deployed the National Guard and mobilized marines to end
- 1:13Speaker 1: the chaos and restore.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Law and order.
- 1:16Speaker 1: The mob violence is being stomped out, the criminals responsible
- 1:20Speaker 1: will be swiftly brought to justice, and the Trump Administration's
- 1:23Speaker 1: operations to arrest illegal aliens are continuing unabated. When the
- 1:28Speaker 1: initial immigration immigration enforcement actions took place on June sixth,
- 1:33Speaker 1: Mahor Bass took to social media to say she was
- 1:35Speaker 1: deeply angered by what has taken place. Mayor Bass then
- 1:39Speaker 1: embarked on one of the most outrageous campaign of lies
- 1:42Speaker 1: this country has ever seen from an elected official, blaming
- 1:46Speaker 1: President Trump and brave.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Law enforcement officers for the violence.
- 1:50Speaker 1: She accused heroic American immigration and Customs enforcement officers targeting
- 1:55Speaker 1: illegal alien murderers, rapists, and pedophiles of quote sowing terror
- 2:00Speaker 1: in communities, in disrupting basic principles of safety in our city.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Around the same time, Governor Newsom claimed that immigration enforcement
- 2:08Speaker 1: actions were causing chaos. That's how radical Democrats have become.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Their opposition to President Trump has forced them to side
- 2:16Speaker 1: with illegal alien criminals in their communities in violent rioters
- 2:21Speaker 1: and looters over law enforcement officers who are just doing
- 2:24Speaker 1: their jobs. Mayor Bass and Governor Newsom fanned the flames
- 2:28Speaker 1: and demonized our brave ICE officers instead of defending their
- 2:32Speaker 1: city and their state. Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom claimed
- 2:35Speaker 1: that in order for the riots and the violence to stop,
- 2:38Speaker 1: Ice needed to leave.
- 2:39Speaker 2: And immigration raids must end.
- 2:42Speaker 1: In other words, the position of the Democrat Party is
- 2:44Speaker 1: that the federal government is not allowed to enforce our
- 2:47Speaker 1: laws and to arrest and deport illegal alien criminals. Their
- 2:51Speaker 1: attempting to use a violent mob as a weapon against
- 2:53Speaker 1: their own constituents to prevent the enforcement of immigration law.
- 2:57Speaker 1: This is deeply on American and morally reprehensible.
- 3:01Speaker 2: President Chump received.
- 3:02Speaker 1: A clear mandate from voters to reverse the illegal invasion
- 3:05Speaker 1: ushered in by Joe Biden's open border and to end
- 3:08Speaker 1: the lawlessness represented by Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom's California.
- 3:13Speaker 1: President Chump promised to carry out the largest mass deportation
- 3:16Speaker 1: campaign in American history, and left wing.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Riots will not deter him in that effort.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Sanctuary cities and states will no longer be allowed to
- 3:25Speaker 1: shield illegal criminals from deportation. Just take a look at
- 3:29Speaker 1: some of the illegal monsters who were taken off the
- 3:31Speaker 1: streets in Los Angeles in recent days.
- 3:34Speaker 2: A Vietnamese national.
- 3:36Speaker 1: A known gang member with a conviction for second degree murder,
- 3:39Speaker 1: a Mexican national with convictions for child molestation who was
- 3:43Speaker 1: armed with a dangerous weapon and had previous arrests for
- 3:47Speaker 1: robbery and domestic violence, a Filipino national with convictions of rape, assault, burglary,
- 3:53Speaker 1: and theft, a Mexican national convicted of statutory rape, narcotics violations,
- 3:58Speaker 1: and hit and run, a Nicaraguan national with convictions for
- 4:02Speaker 1: domestic violence and hit and run in a previous assault arrest.
- 4:05Speaker 2: For wilful cruelty to a child.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And an illegal alien from Mexico who was arrested after
- 4:11Speaker 1: allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement officers during
- 4:15Speaker 1: the Paramount riots on Saturday. He is now being charged
- 4:18Speaker 1: with attempted murder. Law abiding American citizens do not want
- 4:22Speaker 1: these public safety threats living in their communities, no matter
- 4:26Speaker 1: what democrats like Karen Bass and Gavinussen may claim. And
- 4:30Speaker 1: let this be an unequivocal message to left wing radicals
- 4:33Speaker 1: in other parts of the country who are thinking about
- 4:35Speaker 1: copycatting the violence in an effort to stop this administration's
- 4:39Speaker 1: mass deportation efforts. You will not succeed any lawlessness will
- 4:44Speaker 1: only strengthen this President's resolved to defend the majority of
- 4:47Speaker 1: Americans who want to live their lives peacefully, free, free
- 4:52Speaker 1: from the fear of violent, criminal, illegal aliens. As President
- 4:56Speaker 1: Trump said, order will be maintained and illegal aliens will
- 4:59Speaker 1: be exp belled from our country. In economic news, the
- 5:03Speaker 1: latest Consumer Price Index inflation report came in today below expectations.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Again.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Since President Trump took office, inflation has come in below
- 5:11Speaker 1: economics expectations every single month. Core inflation held steady and
- 5:16Speaker 1: remains at the lowest level since March of twenty twenty one.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Wage growth remains strong. The average private sector worker is
- 5:24Speaker 1: on track to see their real earnings increase by around
- 5:26Speaker 1: twelve hundred dollars adjusted for inflation, and prices continue to
- 5:30Speaker 1: fall for everyday Americans. Energy prices fell from April to May,
- 5:34Speaker 1: Gasoline has fallen each month since President Trump took office,
- 5:37Speaker 1: down twelve percent over the past year, and prices for meat, poultry, eggs,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and fish are all down from April to May as well.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Under President Trump's strong leadership, America is beating Joe Biden's
- 5:49Speaker 1: record high inflation crisis. Once the One Big Beautiful Bill passes,
- 5:54Speaker 1: our economy will boom like never before. This bill is
- 5:57Speaker 1: the largest tax cut for middle class Americas in history.
- 6:01Speaker 2: The One Big Beautiful Bill.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Gives a fifteen percent tax cut to working Americans and
- 6:05Speaker 1: families we'll see increased take compei of ten thousand dollars
- 6:09Speaker 1: per year. The One Big Beautiful Bill expands the child
- 6:13Speaker 1: tax credit to twenty five hundred dollars for more than
- 6:15Speaker 1: forty million American families with children. And the One Big
- 6:19Speaker 1: Beautiful Bill cuts taxes for overtime workers, saving them nearly
- 6:23Speaker 1: two thousand dollars per year, and ends taxes on tips,
- 6:27Speaker 1: saving tipped workers nearly two thousand dollars per year as well.
- 6:31Speaker 1: All of these provisions are broadly popular, with an overwhelming
- 6:35Speaker 1: support from the American people. We need Republicans in Congress
- 6:38Speaker 1: to finish the job and send the One Big Beautiful
- 6:40Speaker 1: Bill back to President Trump's desk for his signature as
- 6:43Speaker 1: soon as possible. With that, we'll get to questions. I'm
- 6:46Speaker 1: sure you have many of them.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Today.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Here in our new media seat is Elizabeth Mitchell, the
- 6:49Speaker 1: White House correspondent for the Daily Signal, who's not afforded
- 6:52Speaker 1: a seat in this room, but today she is Thank
- 6:54Speaker 1: you Elizabeth.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Thank you so much, Caroline.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I have two questions.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Okay, First, a few Republicans on cap Little Hill are
- 7:00Speaker 4: suggesting that President Trump scale back deportations even as ICE
- 7:05Speaker 4: is reportedly gearing up for raids in five more Democrat
- 7:08Speaker 4: led areas. Would anything just suade President Trump? And would
- 7:11Speaker 4: you consider sending in Marines if anti ICE violence.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Occurs in these cities.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Well, I think I may have just answered both of
- 7:17Speaker 1: your questions with my opening monologue. The Trump administration is
- 7:21Speaker 1: going to continue the mass deportation effort that the President
- 7:24Speaker 1: promised the American public. Many of you were at those
- 7:27Speaker 1: rallies and cities and communities across the country when the
- 7:29Speaker 1: President spoke about his commitment to removing violent illegal criminals
- 7:33Speaker 1: and anyone who has breaken broken our nation's immigration laws
- 7:36Speaker 1: from American communities, and God bless our Ice and.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Border Patrol who are working hard on that effort.
- 7:41Speaker 1: This administration is going to continue that and it's part
- 7:44Speaker 1: of the reason we do need the One Big Beautiful
- 7:46Speaker 1: Bill to pass as well. May I add, because the
- 7:48Speaker 1: bill provides funding to hire more ICE agents and Border
- 7:51Speaker 1: Patrol agents, more personnel on the ground to conduct this
- 7:54Speaker 1: important public safety work.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 7:56Speaker 4: And on another topic, President Trump has indicated that aids
- 7:59Speaker 4: to former Sident Biden, who used the auto pen to
- 8:01Speaker 4: sign major orders and pardons, should be investigated for potential crimes.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Does he think that Biden allowing or at least being
- 8:08Speaker 4: negligently unaware of this activity was an impeachable offense.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I haven't heard the President address whether it's an impeachable offense,
- 8:15Speaker 1: but it could perhaps be a criminal offense, especially on
- 8:19Speaker 1: behalf of staffers who may have been utilizing the President's
- 8:22Speaker 1: signature without his authority or consent. I understand that Republicans
- 8:26Speaker 1: on the Hill are moving in the right direction to
- 8:28Speaker 1: call attention to this and to bring in some former
- 8:30Speaker 1: White House staffers who clearly knew more than they ever
- 8:33Speaker 1: shared and never addressed with the American public. And so
- 8:37Speaker 1: we look forward to seeing where this investigation continues. And
- 8:39Speaker 1: I know the Department of Justice is also looking into
- 8:41Speaker 1: the matter as well.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Alex, good to see you today. Go to see Karlin.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Thank you. You mentioned Lauren flags being glown during these protests.
- 8:48Speaker 6: There are protests activities being organized for this weekend. Part
- 8:52Speaker 6: of it or Democrats saying they want to reclaim.
- 8:55Speaker 2: The American flag.
- 8:56Speaker 6: It's also being titled No King's Day.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Does the President see him himself as a king?
- 9:01Speaker 3: And does the White House expect to see American.
- 9:03Speaker 6: Flags being thrown being flown during these protests?
- 9:06Speaker 1: As we get the President views himself as the president
- 9:09Speaker 1: of the United States of America. This is a constitutional republic,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and we want to see all of our citizens be
- 9:15Speaker 1: proud of the country in which they are given the
- 9:17Speaker 1: privilege and the blessing to live. And I think those
- 9:21Speaker 1: images of foreign flags being waived by illegal criminals and
- 9:26Speaker 1: by violent rioters in the face of cars blowing up
- 9:31Speaker 1: and of flames in the city.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I have photos of that here to show you.
- 9:36Speaker 1: With this violence and destruction that occurred is an image
- 9:39Speaker 1: that Governor Gavin Newsom owns.
- 9:41Speaker 2: This is his city.
- 9:42Speaker 1: And President Trump saw these images and he said that
- 9:44Speaker 1: is not going to be accepted or tolerated. And hence
- 9:46Speaker 1: why he deployed the National Guard and United States Marines
- 9:50Speaker 1: who have helped to quell that violence.
- 9:52Speaker 7: If I can ask another if the President does end
- 9:55Speaker 7: up deploying any National Guard members, perhaps marines to.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Blue, would he be in contact with the governors prior
- 10:03Speaker 2: to this? Would it be necessary?
- 10:05Speaker 1: Well, President Trump was in contact with Governor Gavin Newsom,
- 10:08Speaker 1: despite some of the claims he's made in the last
- 10:10Speaker 1: couple of days. The President called the governor on Friday
- 10:13Speaker 1: evening and told him to let law enforcement in California
- 10:17Speaker 1: do their jobs. In the Los Angeles Police Department.
- 10:19Speaker 2: By the way, are fantastic people.
- 10:22Speaker 1: They are trying to do the work that they've so
- 10:24Speaker 1: bravely signed up to do to enforce the law. But
- 10:26Speaker 1: they have been kneecapped by incompetent Democrat policies and Democrat
- 10:30Speaker 1: politicians who do not allow that their local law enforcement
- 10:34Speaker 1: to correspond and coordinate with federal immigration authorities. And so
- 10:38Speaker 1: President gave Gavin Newsom a warning and said get it together.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Twenty four hours later, we saw more images like this.
- 10:44Speaker 1: We heard about border patrol agents who were being the
- 10:47Speaker 1: target of rocks. These illegal criminals were throwing rocks at
- 10:51Speaker 1: our border patrol and ICE agents. And so the President
- 10:54Speaker 1: made the decision to federalize California's National Guards.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Stephanie, thank you.
- 10:59Speaker 7: Two questions on the China trade deal with I may first,
- 11:02Speaker 7: well the President formally signing the trade deal, and if so,
- 11:05Speaker 7: when Secretary Lutnix sort of alluded to the fact that
- 11:07Speaker 7: it might be in a couple of days.
- 11:09Speaker 3: But there's president reason more specific to READO.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Sure, but I do have more specifics for you. I
- 11:13Speaker 1: spoke to the President about this. He spoke to his
- 11:16Speaker 1: trade team, who did a fantastic job negotiating this on
- 11:19Speaker 1: behalf of the United States and meeting with their Chinese counterparts.
- 11:22Speaker 1: The President is talking to them about the details of
- 11:24Speaker 1: it now. But what the President heard he liked. China
- 11:27Speaker 1: has agreed to open their markets to the United States
- 11:30Speaker 1: separately of this deal.
- 11:31Speaker 2: And when it comes to this deal, we're going back
- 11:33Speaker 2: to the terms that.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Were agreed upon in Geneva for the release of some
- 11:36Speaker 1: of those critical minerals and the magnets from China to
- 11:39Speaker 1: the United States, and we have agreed to fully comply
- 11:42Speaker 1: with the Geneva agreement as well. So the President is
- 11:45Speaker 1: reviewing the details of that with his trade team now,
- 11:47Speaker 1: and you'll hear more from him, I'm sure.
- 11:49Speaker 7: And then the second question on tariff, Secretary of London
- 11:52Speaker 7: suggested that the teriffs would remain unchanged with China. I'm
- 11:57Speaker 7: wondering if there's any room for them to negotiate even
- 12:00Speaker 7: or if this is the floor.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I won't get ahead of any further negotiations. We're in
- 12:04Speaker 1: a great place right now, and I would add that
- 12:06Speaker 1: this is the result of a lot of hard work
- 12:08Speaker 1: from the President and his team, and the President has
- 12:10Speaker 1: a good and respectful relationship with President she and as
- 12:13Speaker 1: you know, they had a direct conversation which led to
- 12:15Speaker 1: this success that the President.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Announced on Tru's social this morning.
- 12:19Speaker 3: JJ on North Korea, his your president tried to resume
- 12:23Speaker 3: dialogue with him Jong un. There's some reporting that the
- 12:26Speaker 3: President sent a letter and tried to give it to
- 12:29Speaker 3: Kim Jong un through some North Korean diplomats after the
- 12:32Speaker 3: Un and they declined to take it and send it
- 12:34Speaker 3: to Kim Jong yun.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The President remains receptive to correspondence with Kim Jong un,
- 12:39Speaker 1: and he'd liked to see the progress that was made
- 12:41Speaker 1: at that summit in Singapore, which I know you covered
- 12:43Speaker 1: in twenty eighteen.
- 12:45Speaker 2: During his first term.
- 12:45Speaker 1: As for specific correspondence, I'll leave that to the President
- 12:48Speaker 1: to answer.
- 12:49Speaker 8: Sure.
- 12:51Speaker 9: Thanks back to the trade deal negotiations with China. Jimmy Laie,
- 12:56Speaker 9: as you know, is a pro democracy advocate, Catholic sitting
- 13:00Speaker 9: solitary confinement in Hong Kong as we speak, as family
- 13:03Speaker 9: believes he may be close to death. Did his name
- 13:06Speaker 9: come up Jimmy Lai's name come up in these negotiations.
- 13:09Speaker 2: With China, Not to my knowledge.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I understand the negotiations were very much focused on our
- 13:14Speaker 1: trade and economic relationship with China.
- 13:16Speaker 9: Does the President believe he can free Jimmy Lai from prison?
- 13:19Speaker 2: I'll check with the President.
- 13:20Speaker 1: It's certainly an important issue, and I'll get back to you.
- 13:24Speaker 10: The President said yesterday that paid insurrectionists were behind or
- 13:29Speaker 10: involved in the protests in Los Angeles. Does the White
- 13:32Speaker 10: House how many more details about who they believe is
- 13:36Speaker 10: paying these in these.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Yeah, the President.
- 13:39Speaker 1: The President spoke about this last night when he returned
- 13:41Speaker 1: from Fort Bragg because, frankly, the President has a lot
- 13:44Speaker 1: of common sense. And if you look at some of
- 13:45Speaker 1: the imagery that we ever received from the Department of
- 13:48Speaker 1: Homeland Security and ICE and law enforcement who are on
- 13:51Speaker 1: the ground, you will see boxes and boxes of very
- 13:54Speaker 1: professionalized masks and rioting equipment being dropped off for these protesters.
- 13:59Speaker 1: So it's a good question the President is raising. In
- 14:01Speaker 1: one we are looking into about who is funding these
- 14:05Speaker 1: insurrectionists and these rioters and these protesters and these illegal criminals,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and I have.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Updates for you on the numbers.
- 14:11Speaker 1: By the way, since June sixth, there have been three
- 14:13Speaker 1: hundred and thirty illegal aliens that have been arrested as
- 14:17Speaker 1: part of these riots in Los Angeles. One hundred and
- 14:19Speaker 1: thirteen of those illegal aliens had prior criminal convictions. And overall,
- 14:25Speaker 1: and this includes arrests of American citizens, there's been one
- 14:28Speaker 1: hundred and fifty seven people arrested for assault and obstruction
- 14:32Speaker 1: obstruction related charges, including the attempted murder.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Of a police officer with a molotov cocktail.
- 14:38Speaker 1: So who is funding these illegal aliens who are coming
- 14:42Speaker 1: in with this very professional riot gear. It's a question
- 14:45Speaker 1: everyone in this room who cares about truth should be asking,
- 14:49Speaker 1: and we encourage your help in trying to get to
- 14:50Speaker 1: the bottom of that question.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Indeeda thank you, Carolyn.
- 14:54Speaker 11: About Elon Musk, he issued an apology this morning. Has
- 14:58Speaker 11: the President accepted these pology or does he think it's
- 15:01Speaker 11: too little, too late.
- 15:03Speaker 1: The President acknowledged the statement that Elon put out this morning,
- 15:06Speaker 1: and he is appreciative of it, and we are continuing
- 15:10Speaker 1: to focus on the business of the American people.
- 15:12Speaker 11: And has the administration started a review of Musk's government contracts,
- 15:18Speaker 11: something that the President said he's considering.
- 15:21Speaker 2: What do you mean by that?
- 15:22Speaker 11: Has the administration started a review of the contracts that
- 15:26Speaker 11: Musk and his companies currently have.
- 15:29Speaker 2: No efforts have been made on that front as far
- 15:30Speaker 2: as I'm aware, And just one.
- 15:33Speaker 11: More if I may, on just everything sort of we've
- 15:36Speaker 11: seen so far with the President's response to the LA protests,
- 15:41Speaker 11: there is criticism that seems to suggest that the President
- 15:44Speaker 11: responded the way he did because it was a deliberate,
- 15:47Speaker 11: calculated attempt to sort of shift focus away from his
- 15:51Speaker 11: feud with Musk.
- 15:51Speaker 2: How would you respond to that?
- 15:52Speaker 1: The President responded to the LA riots condemning the violence
- 15:58Speaker 1: to shrom Musk, that's an incredibly disingenuous attack. The President
- 16:02Speaker 1: saw images of border patrol and ICE agents being hailed
- 16:05Speaker 1: with rocks in molotov cocktails. He saw vehicles being burned
- 16:09Speaker 1: to the ground with illegal aliens flying foreign flags, and
- 16:13Speaker 1: that's what prompted the President to have this response. That
- 16:16Speaker 1: has clearly worked, because last night in Los Angeles you
- 16:18Speaker 1: didn't see many of those images. And I would add,
- 16:21Speaker 1: the governor and the mayor need to actually do more
- 16:24Speaker 1: I know Gavin Newsom had a big address to the
- 16:26Speaker 1: nation last night. I guess he thought that's what it
- 16:29Speaker 1: was for, maybe his future political ambitions.
- 16:32Speaker 2: But he spoke a lot of words we haven't seen action.
- 16:34Speaker 1: California has been a mess for years because of the
- 16:37Speaker 1: incompetence of Gavin Newsom. So the President was responding to that.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Only Kaitlin here.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Only two questions for you. Sure. Over the weekend, Secretary Nomes.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Sent a memo to the Pentagon asking Secretary Headset to
- 16:49Speaker 6: have and direct the military that's on the ground in
- 16:51Speaker 6: LA to arrest and detain what she said were lawbreakers.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Is the President okay with that?
- 16:57Speaker 6: And under what authority would the members of the military
- 17:00Speaker 6: be able to arrest people inside the United States.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I can't speak for a letter that came from the
- 17:05Speaker 1: Department of Homeland Security. I can't speak for the president
- 17:07Speaker 1: and what's currently happening on the ground now. And as
- 17:10Speaker 1: you know, the President federalized the National Guard under US
- 17:13Speaker 1: Code ten, which he has the authority to do, and
- 17:16Speaker 1: our United States Marines and the National guardsmen and women
- 17:18Speaker 1: who are on the ground right now are helping to
- 17:20Speaker 1: create a peaceful environment for ice in border patrol who
- 17:24Speaker 1: were being again hailed with rocks, who were being violently
- 17:27Speaker 1: and viciously attacked. They needed reinforcements, and so our United
- 17:30Speaker 1: States Marines who are on the ground are providing those
- 17:33Speaker 1: reinforcements to ensure the environment is peaceful so that these
- 17:36Speaker 1: raids and deportations can continue.
- 17:38Speaker 6: But he realizes they can't actually arrest people unless he
- 17:41Speaker 6: invokes the Insurrection Act, which I mean seemingly was not
- 17:44Speaker 6: something that was in Secretary Noves.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Memo, A clear distinction she did not make there.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Again, you're trying to conflate a letter that was sent
- 17:51Speaker 1: to the Department of Homeland Security to the president's legal authority.
- 17:54Speaker 1: The President understands the legal authority that he invoked, and
- 17:57Speaker 1: that's the current situation right now.
- 17:58Speaker 2: When it comes to federalizing the National Guard.
- 18:00Speaker 6: What is the specific criteria that the president is using
- 18:03Speaker 6: for when he's deciding to do that in which states?
- 18:06Speaker 2: The President was asked and answered this yesterday. He wants
- 18:08Speaker 2: to see an end to the chaos and the violence.
- 18:10Speaker 2: He doesn't want to see law enforcement officers being attacked.
- 18:13Speaker 2: He wants to see peace.
- 18:14Speaker 1: He wants law abiding Californians to be able to bring
- 18:17Speaker 1: their kids to school, to be able to go to
- 18:19Speaker 1: work without seeing his violence in the streets. That's what's
- 18:21Speaker 1: the President's hoping for, and that's why he's taken this action.
- 18:24Speaker 2: John, thanks a lot, Caroline.
- 18:26Speaker 12: Two questions on some separate topics. One has to do
- 18:29Speaker 12: with the military parade taking place here in Washington this weekend.
- 18:32Speaker 12: There's a lot of security around the White House complex,
- 18:36Speaker 12: around the Capitol complex, even along the title basin Is.
- 18:39Speaker 13: That just proactive?
- 18:40Speaker 12: Are you expecting anything in particular in terms of unrest
- 18:44Speaker 12: like we've seen in Los Angeles?
- 18:45Speaker 1: These are proactive security measures to protect those marching in
- 18:49Speaker 1: the parade, many of whom will be veterans and our
- 18:52Speaker 1: brave men and women in uniform and gold Star families.
- 18:56Speaker 1: There's going to be military families from around the country
- 18:58Speaker 1: who are flying into this parade, and of course it's
- 19:00Speaker 1: to protect the spectators who will be enjoying this incredibly
- 19:04Speaker 1: patriotic show on Saturday, and I hope you all join
- 19:07Speaker 1: us there.
- 19:07Speaker 12: Secondly, Secretary of Pete Hegset testified on the Senate side
- 19:12Speaker 12: of the capital today and he was asked about America's
- 19:17Speaker 12: the administration's view of Vladimir Putin's intentions. Specifically, it was
- 19:22Speaker 12: asked whether or not his intentions go beyond his territorial
- 19:27Speaker 12: ambitions go beyond Ukraine. When that question was posed to
- 19:31Speaker 12: the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Cain
- 19:35Speaker 12: replied that he does believe that history ambitions go beyond Ukraine,
- 19:40Speaker 12: but Secretary Hegseth says, it's not clear at this point.
- 19:44Speaker 10: How does the President view this issue.
- 19:46Speaker 2: President has spoken on this.
- 19:48Speaker 1: He said, as he calls it, he believes Ukraine was
- 19:51Speaker 1: always the apple of Putin's eye, and he made it
- 19:54Speaker 1: very clear to Putin in his first term not to
- 19:57Speaker 1: invade Ukraine. Putin didn't invade Ukraine because of President Trump's
- 20:00Speaker 1: peace through Strength foreign policy agenda and the effective deterrence
- 20:05Speaker 1: policies that he implemented in the first term. Unfortunately, because
- 20:08Speaker 1: of the weakness and incompetence of the previous administration, Vladimir
- 20:11Speaker 1: Putin made the decision to invade Ukraine, and now we
- 20:14Speaker 1: have this brutal.
- 20:15Speaker 2: War which the President is working very hard to end. Jasmine,
- 20:18Speaker 2: Thanks so much, Caroline.
- 20:20Speaker 11: The President warned that any protests on Saturday would be
- 20:24Speaker 11: met with force. Can you clarify what kind of protest
- 20:28Speaker 11: President Trump does support or find acceptable.
- 20:31Speaker 1: President absolutely supports peaceful protests. He supports the First Amendment.
- 20:35Speaker 1: He supports the right of Americans to make their voices heard.
- 20:38Speaker 1: He does not support violence of any kind.
- 20:41Speaker 2: He does not.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Support assaulting law enforcement officers who are simply trying to
- 20:44Speaker 1: do their job. It's very clear for the President what
- 20:47Speaker 1: he supports and what he does not. Unfortunately, for Democrats,
- 20:50Speaker 1: that line has not been made clear, and they've allowed
- 20:52Speaker 1: this unrest, in this violence to continue, and the President
- 20:55Speaker 1: has had to step in. So if there were peaceful
- 20:57Speaker 1: protests on Saturday for the militate parade, President Trump would
- 21:01Speaker 1: allow that.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Of course, the President supports peaceful protest. What a stupid question, Raquel.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Caroline, Raquel, and then I can
- 21:09Speaker 1: go to you first.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Thank you so much, Caroline.
- 21:10Speaker 5: I have two questions.
- 21:12Speaker 11: One about Israel.
- 21:13Speaker 5: Yesterday the ambassador, the US investor to Israel said the
- 21:17Speaker 5: US no longer is pursuing the goal of an independent
- 21:20Speaker 5: Palestinian state. Can you confirm that the president is no
- 21:23Speaker 5: longer supporting and to state solution? And is President Trump
- 21:26Speaker 5: considering diplomatic action against countries who takes action against Israel?
- 21:33Speaker 11: Doing next week UN conference.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Right now, the President used, the situation in Israel and
- 21:38Speaker 1: Gaza is deeply unfortunate and needing to end. And the
- 21:41Speaker 1: President is realistic about the current state of affairs in
- 21:46Speaker 1: this region of the world. And that's why the President
- 21:48Speaker 1: has said the number one focus and priority of the
- 21:50Speaker 1: administration is to release all of the hostages from Gaza
- 21:53Speaker 1: and to end this conflict as soon as possible. The
- 21:56Speaker 1: administration is still pushing very hard for the release of
- 21:59Speaker 1: all the hostages. And as for what happens next, clearly,
- 22:03Speaker 1: Gaza is an uninhabitable place. It needs to be rebuilt
- 22:07Speaker 1: with the help of our era partners, and the President
- 22:09Speaker 1: wants to see that happen as well.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Take a cause one.
- 22:11Speaker 8: On the G seven engagement, President Trump's traveling there on Sunday.
- 22:16Speaker 8: Other presidents beyond the G seven leaders are also going.
- 22:19Speaker 8: President Lula from Brazil, President Chamba from Mexico, and President
- 22:23Speaker 8: Zelenski from Ukraine are also going. Do you have confirmation
- 22:27Speaker 8: if President Trump is meeting any other leaders on the
- 22:30Speaker 8: sideline of the G seven Yes?
- 22:32Speaker 11: About the Ula engagement.
- 22:33Speaker 1: In Lula, I can confirm there will be quite a
- 22:36Speaker 1: few bilateral meetings between the President and other foreign leaders.
- 22:39Speaker 1: The White House is still working very hard to finalize
- 22:41Speaker 1: that schedule, and we will provide that for you as
- 22:43Speaker 1: soon as we have it.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Thanks Kaling.
- 22:46Speaker 12: Just back to the China trade deal, can you talk
- 22:49Speaker 12: about the status of the export controls that the US imposed.
- 22:54Speaker 12: Are those no longer being imposed?
- 22:57Speaker 2: We are fully complying with the Geneva agreement.
- 23:01Speaker 13: Go ahead, sure, thanks Kern. One foreign question for you,
- 23:05Speaker 13: in one domestic the foreign the President of course has
- 23:08Speaker 13: said he would relieve he would lift sanctions on Syria.
- 23:12Speaker 13: Is there an executive order coming along soon to go
- 23:15Speaker 13: do that? And is the President planning to try to
- 23:17Speaker 13: get involved in any kind of a peace agreement between
- 23:22Speaker 13: Israel and Syria that would disengage those two.
- 23:27Speaker 1: To the best of my knowledge, the Treasury Department took
- 23:29Speaker 1: action after the President made that announcement in Saudi Arabia.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 23:33Speaker 13: And then on the domestic side, you were just asked
- 23:36Speaker 13: about the First Amendment rights issues in the President's comments yesterday,
- 23:41Speaker 13: though he just said protesters would be strongly dealt with.
- 23:46Speaker 13: In your list before, you referred to insurrectionists, rioters and
- 23:51Speaker 13: protesters together. Obviously they're quite different from your earlier answer.
- 23:56Speaker 13: I'm struck by the fact that the President has not
- 23:58Speaker 13: at any point said the most important thing here is
- 24:01Speaker 13: to protect the First Amendment rights of peaceful protesters. So
- 24:05Speaker 13: I'm wondering where in his hierarchy of interests does he
- 24:08Speaker 13: place that is the First Amendment protection the most important?
- 24:12Speaker 13: Is stopping violence most important? Why is he not out
- 24:17Speaker 13: saying all peaceful protesters will be protected.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I think two things can be important at the same time.
- 24:24Speaker 1: And the President, as I just answered, supports the right
- 24:27Speaker 1: of Americans to peacely protest. He supports the First Amendment,
- 24:30Speaker 1: but that is not the majority of the behavior that
- 24:32Speaker 1: we have seen taking place in Los Angeles. We have
- 24:35Speaker 1: seen mobs of violent rioters and agitators, assaulting law enforcement officers,
- 24:41Speaker 1: assaulting our federal immigration authorities, and we have seen as
- 24:45Speaker 1: I said, this goes back to what this administration is
- 24:48Speaker 1: trying to do and accomplish, and that's enforcing law and
- 24:50Speaker 1: order in our nation's communities, and it's removing public safety
- 24:54Speaker 1: threats from communities.
- 24:55Speaker 2: In Los Angeles, the.
- 24:57Speaker 13: Majority of not been peaceful.
- 24:58Speaker 2: A majority of read for you the arrest numbers.
- 25:01Speaker 1: We've arrested nearly four hundred illegal aliens alone, just illegal
- 25:05Speaker 1: aliens who have been arrested in these riots since June sixth,
- 25:08Speaker 1: since they began.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and we've had hundreds.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Of people who have assaulted law enforcement officers. Are you
- 25:14Speaker 1: saying that that's appropriate behavior?
- 25:17Speaker 13: Are you saying that figure out?
- 25:19Speaker 1: The Democrat, the Democrat governor, and the Democrat mayor of
- 25:23Speaker 1: Los Angeles have failed their citizens and the majority of Americans,
- 25:27Speaker 1: the majority of Californians do not want to see law
- 25:30Speaker 1: enforcement officers being assaulted in the streets. And thankfully the
- 25:34Speaker 1: President took action and stepped in to protect our federal
- 25:37Speaker 1: law enforcement agents, to protect protect federal buildings, to protect
- 25:42Speaker 1: the federal mission of deporting illegal criminals off of our streets.
- 25:45Speaker 1: And that mission will continue every day as far as
- 25:47Speaker 1: we're concert.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Thank you, guys,
