Latest / Hawk Talk / Recapping Week 5: Seahawks at Saints
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Play Fank go to roll right, jumps it
- 0:07Speaker 1: off into the right flass to Michael Bumpers, who bounces
- 0:09Speaker 1: off on one tackler gets inside the forty down of
- 0:12Speaker 1: the thirty five yard line. Powered by Seahawks dot Com,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Matt pump fakes looking at the goal line. He throws
- 0:17Speaker 1: it into the end zone. Touchdown Saint Hawks. It's Michael
- 0:21Speaker 1: Bumpus with a diving catch in the end zone. Ten
- 0:24Speaker 1: yard touchdown reception for Bumpus, and the kid out of
- 0:27Speaker 1: Washington State has found himself a place on this team.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Now here's your host, Nasa Chubi. The Seahawks run of
- 0:35Speaker 1: near perfection during ten am starts takes a slight hit
- 0:38Speaker 1: as a fall thirty nine thirty two to the New
- 0:41Speaker 1: Orleans Saints. The Hawks coming into the game where twenty
- 0:43Speaker 1: two and seven during ten ames starts and now follow
- 0:47Speaker 1: twenty two and eight after a tough loss against the Saints.
- 0:49Speaker 1: But we're gonna dive into that matchup see how everything
- 0:52Speaker 1: went down, like we do every week, as we get
- 0:54Speaker 1: inside the trenches with Ray Roberts, it's time to go
- 0:59Speaker 1: inside the Trench with former Seahawk Ray Roberts. Ray. Well,
- 1:04Speaker 1: it was the second week in a row the Seahawks
- 1:05Speaker 1: were involved in a shootout. This time of like I
- 1:08Speaker 1: mentioned losing to the Saints thirty nine thirty two, and
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'd be remiss if I didn't start here. One of
- 1:12Speaker 1: the biggest stories come out of Sunday was the injury
- 1:14Speaker 1: to a shot Penny. You feel for a guy who's
- 1:17Speaker 1: been through so much in his career, and we heard
- 1:19Speaker 1: Pete Carroll say today that, you know, he looks like
- 1:21Speaker 1: he broke that tibia in his leg and he's gonna,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you know, miss the rest of the season. So what
- 1:26Speaker 1: is this loss going to do to this team and
- 1:28Speaker 1: specifically this running game. Well, you know, I think I
- 1:32Speaker 1: think Paul More You're kind of hit it on the
- 1:34Speaker 1: head in the post game because I think they have
- 1:37Speaker 1: some capable backs that can come in. You know, with
- 1:39Speaker 1: the kid, the young kid Walker, I think he has
- 1:41Speaker 1: a different kind of dimension to how he runs, but
- 1:44Speaker 1: he doesn't have the size that Penny has. Like Penny
- 1:47Speaker 1: has two hundred and thirty pounds. Running with speed and power,
- 1:51Speaker 1: You're running through some of those arm tackles, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 1: in the trenches and then been able to get to
- 1:54Speaker 1: the next level. And so I think you may miss
- 1:57Speaker 1: some of that. I don't want to say like not
- 2:00Speaker 1: like a physicality, like a like a Marshawn Lynch or
- 2:02Speaker 1: like a Chris Carson, but you missed. Uh, You're probably
- 2:06Speaker 1: gonna miss a little bit of that the size advantage
- 2:09Speaker 1: you have in the run game. But I'm like you man,
- 2:12Speaker 1: you know, Rashard Penny has worked really, really hard. I
- 2:14Speaker 1: remember last year doing one of or doing the preseason
- 2:17Speaker 1: one of his press conferences, and you know, he's really
- 2:21Speaker 1: soft spoken dude, and was saying, like, you know, he's
- 2:23Speaker 1: not trying to get hurt, you know, you know, and
- 2:26Speaker 1: he understands that, you know, people want to see him
- 2:28Speaker 1: on the field and that his job is to play football,
- 2:30Speaker 1: so he's not trying to get hurt. So here it
- 2:33Speaker 1: is again, he's got off to he ended the season
- 2:35Speaker 1: strong last year, was getting off to good start this year,
- 2:37Speaker 1: and then the Andrew team jumped on him again. So
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm really feelful the dude, and uh, and we'll certainly
- 2:44Speaker 1: have keep him in my thoughts. So with with ken Walker,
- 2:47Speaker 1: ken Walker steps up. He has a huge run obviously,
- 2:50Speaker 1: do you think he's ready And do you think it
- 2:52Speaker 1: helped that he's been able to kind of sit behind
- 2:55Speaker 1: Rashard the last five games and not kind of be
- 2:56Speaker 1: the guy as he kind of transitions into right now
- 2:59Speaker 1: as the way back. Do you think he's ready for
- 3:00Speaker 1: that moment right now? Ray? You know, I think he
- 3:03Speaker 1: is because even in the game and in a few
- 3:06Speaker 1: games he's had a few carries. You know, he's kind
- 3:09Speaker 1: of been a little bit like he seems like very excitable.
- 3:13Speaker 1: You know, he got the ball in my hands. Oh man,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I gotta go do something. So he kind of, you know,
- 3:16Speaker 1: was kind of running, not out of control, but just
- 3:19Speaker 1: not in the type of control you used to seeing
- 3:21Speaker 1: him in. But then you can actually see in this
- 3:23Speaker 1: game he had you know, one or two carries earlier
- 3:25Speaker 1: where we saw like, man, he's like moving just a
- 3:27Speaker 1: little too fast, there was a little bit ahead of
- 3:30Speaker 1: the blocking, and then all of a sudden he kind
- 3:32Speaker 1: of got himself calmed down, made put his foot in
- 3:35Speaker 1: the ground, made the cut, and the next you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: he has a big, big, long touchdown. So I think
- 3:39Speaker 1: he's ready. And the one thing about him I remember
- 3:42Speaker 1: him from college is that he was like led the
- 3:45Speaker 1: country or was like in the top you know, three
- 3:47Speaker 1: or four or five running backs in the country with
- 3:49Speaker 1: yards have to contact. So even though he's maybe twning
- 3:52Speaker 1: ten or fifteen pounds versus twening thirty five pounds, he
- 3:55Speaker 1: still has a knack for running through you know, tackles
- 3:58Speaker 1: and getting yards after contact. So I'm excited to see
- 4:01Speaker 1: what he brings. I think he'll probably had a little
- 4:03Speaker 1: bit more to the passing game. But also, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: with DJ Dallas and you know, I'm not sure who
- 4:07Speaker 1: else they may bring in, but DJ Dallas, you know,
- 4:09Speaker 1: can't you know, you know, count him out either. He's
- 4:12Speaker 1: going to do something every time he gets in there
- 4:14Speaker 1: to bring some value to the running back room. And
- 4:17Speaker 1: Big Ray. Speaking of running the football, I'm gonna flip
- 4:19Speaker 1: it over to the New Orleans Saints. Man. They had
- 4:21Speaker 1: a day. Takes Hill had one twelve or three touchdowns,
- 4:24Speaker 1: Camara had twenty three carries for one oh three Overall,
- 4:28Speaker 1: they ran at forty eight times for two hundred and
- 4:30Speaker 1: thirty five yards. It's it's clear what teams are going
- 4:34Speaker 1: to do to attack the Seahawks. How do they at
- 4:37Speaker 1: least take a step forward in definity of the run game.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I have to fix it overnight. But how did they
- 4:41Speaker 1: get better? Yeah, you know, I think you know, we
- 4:44Speaker 1: talked about it a little bit last week leading into
- 4:46Speaker 1: that game. It's like, you know, I think a lot
- 4:48Speaker 1: of guys are trying to be assignment perfect and so
- 4:53Speaker 1: you tend to like play with a little less aggression
- 4:55Speaker 1: when you're just trying to make sure you get to
- 4:56Speaker 1: the right place. But now I think they didn't need
- 4:59Speaker 1: to get to the right place and then be football players,
- 5:01Speaker 1: so you know, getting off blocks and making tackles, making
- 5:04Speaker 1: sure you're in the same gap, but you're showing up
- 5:06Speaker 1: in the gap to make a play, not just by
- 5:08Speaker 1: so you get a plus on the on the on
- 5:10Speaker 1: the assignment um chart. And then we heard a lot
- 5:14Speaker 1: of the uh, you know, some of the veterans after
- 5:16Speaker 1: the game, you're just talking about the whole accountability thing.
- 5:19Speaker 1: You know, there's something they kind of went to a
- 5:21Speaker 1: couple of years ago and they had the big meeting
- 5:22Speaker 1: and uh had this big accountability thing, and it seemed
- 5:25Speaker 1: like the defense got better after that. So you know,
- 5:28Speaker 1: I don't know that, uh, this would be a time
- 5:31Speaker 1: to panic and like change your defense. But if there's
- 5:35Speaker 1: a way to get a bigger body uh. And on
- 5:38Speaker 1: the defensive line uh and some of those early rundowns.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I think it might help. Right now, when you run
- 5:43Speaker 1: like those three four concepts, you have natural um gap
- 5:47Speaker 1: so over the guards would make which make it easy
- 5:49Speaker 1: for them to get up to the linebackers. So that's
- 5:51Speaker 1: creating a problem. And then you have to maybe look
- 5:54Speaker 1: and see if if you have the type of defensive
- 5:58Speaker 1: lineman big news down that can really two gamped that
- 6:01Speaker 1: way and hold up a double team and not get
- 6:03Speaker 1: driven down the field. So there's a little bit of
- 6:05Speaker 1: adjustment I think they're gonna have to make. And then,
- 6:07Speaker 1: like we said, it's just gonna have to be a
- 6:08Speaker 1: little bit at a time. It's not gonna happen something overnight. Well, Ray,
- 6:12Speaker 1: give me something to look positive front. You know, obviously
- 6:15Speaker 1: the Seaffs are giving up a lot of yards right now. Defensively,
- 6:17Speaker 1: they did force four punts. The rookie Treek Willins had
- 6:20Speaker 1: three games with three turnovers. Kobe Bryant made a couple
- 6:22Speaker 1: of plays. What are you seeing from that defense? On
- 6:25Speaker 1: a good note that you think is going to translate
- 6:27Speaker 1: moving forward this year and give you know, fans out
- 6:30Speaker 1: there a reason to be excited about the potential of
- 6:32Speaker 1: this defense turning things around. Well, the one person that
- 6:36Speaker 1: I've just been bawling like all the last year and
- 6:39Speaker 1: this year is Al Woods. I mean, he's a force
- 6:42Speaker 1: in the middle. We saw yesterday where he took on
- 6:45Speaker 1: the center, took on the guard, took on the tackle,
- 6:48Speaker 1: and then made the tackle in the backfield. So he's
- 6:51Speaker 1: playing some really good football and he's really trying to
- 6:53Speaker 1: hold down when he can in the middle. I think
- 6:55Speaker 1: Niosu didn't have as many stats this pass, but he
- 7:00Speaker 1: has been a good pick up for the Seahawks. He's
- 7:02Speaker 1: been very active getting after the quarterback and getting hits
- 7:05Speaker 1: on the quarterback and making plays. And then you have
- 7:07Speaker 1: to look at those the two rookies. You know, Kobe
- 7:10Speaker 1: Bryant has been on the um. You know, had maybe
- 7:12Speaker 1: a couple of penalties, but he's also created two fumbles
- 7:15Speaker 1: in the last two games. And then Tari would and
- 7:17Speaker 1: like you said, is three games I guess in the
- 7:19Speaker 1: row with interception. So all those things are things to
- 7:22Speaker 1: look good. I think yesterday, um, the Jordan Brooks that
- 7:26Speaker 1: we were expecting to see kind of showed up. He
- 7:28Speaker 1: made some some big hits and some big tackles around
- 7:31Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage versus you know, a lot of
- 7:34Speaker 1: yards down the field. So I think those are some
- 7:37Speaker 1: really good things to look to look after. I think
- 7:40Speaker 1: Darryl Taylor, you know, like watching him a little bit
- 7:43Speaker 1: more closely yesterday, Like he's not getting as much um
- 7:47Speaker 1: uh playmaking this as he was last year. But also
- 7:50Speaker 1: he's getting double team a lot, so they're putting their
- 7:52Speaker 1: they're chipping in with the tight end and then he
- 7:54Speaker 1: has to get through the tackle, so it may be
- 7:56Speaker 1: opening it up for other guys to do some damage.
- 7:58Speaker 1: So even though he doesn't have the numbers we would like,
- 8:01Speaker 1: he's pulling attention away from other folks. So to me,
- 8:04Speaker 1: those are good things. Those are good things to think
- 8:06Speaker 1: about this. And the other thing is that they have
- 8:08Speaker 1: all the pieces. They have all the players, even once
- 8:11Speaker 1: Jamal Adam has been out, you know Neil as a playmaker.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You know, they have guys that can make plays. They
- 8:16Speaker 1: just have to, you know, get a hold of that
- 8:18Speaker 1: accountability thing, show up with bad intentions and then and
- 8:22Speaker 1: then remember that they're football players. You know that they
- 8:25Speaker 1: don't have to just it's not just about being a
- 8:27Speaker 1: right with the assignment. But it's just getting to the
- 8:29Speaker 1: assignment and then doing what you're what you're paid to
- 8:31Speaker 1: do with Just play football. Stop folks, Hey, Ray, this
- 8:35Speaker 1: is the fifth week in a row. I look at
- 8:37Speaker 1: the quarterback position and I'm just um optimistic. I love
- 8:41Speaker 1: what I'm seeing Now. We saw this offense go one
- 8:43Speaker 1: for nine on third downs, But how they made up
- 8:45Speaker 1: for this was just six explosive plays. Man, they had
- 8:49Speaker 1: to drive a five player seventy five yard touchdown. Three
- 8:52Speaker 1: plays fifty yard touchdown, three seventy five yard touchdowns. Like
- 8:56Speaker 1: they're showing a different dynamic. We knew Gino was a
- 9:00Speaker 1: conduct type of guy, but now he's stowing the full
- 9:01Speaker 1: ball down the field. Um, what did that make you
- 9:04Speaker 1: think about this offense overall? Is it safe to say
- 9:07Speaker 1: they're complete? You know, It's like there's an old saying,
- 9:11Speaker 1: when people show you who they are, you should believe them,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and so I think Gino has certainly done that. Uh.
- 9:18Speaker 1: You know, we thought this was going to be a
- 9:20Speaker 1: big test because this is one of the top defenses
- 9:23Speaker 1: in the league and Gino just look like the same
- 9:25Speaker 1: old Gino that he's been been all year. Like the
- 9:27Speaker 1: dimes he's been dropping the way he has has command
- 9:30Speaker 1: of the offense, I think, even though it's just starting
- 9:34Speaker 1: to get a little attention, but the idea if you
- 9:36Speaker 1: have two rookie tackles playing and they're not getting a
- 9:40Speaker 1: whole lot of help, and they're taking on the better
- 9:43Speaker 1: pass rushers in this league by themselves, and over the
- 9:47Speaker 1: last two games, I think they gave up maybe one
- 9:49Speaker 1: sack and one hit. So those guys are really balling out.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And then they're showing the ability to run the ball,
- 9:58Speaker 1: not just m when they want to run the ball,
- 10:02Speaker 1: like sometimes like it's easy to run the ball when
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know you're throwing the ball all over the place
- 10:06Speaker 1: and the thief has a softened up, But when the
- 10:08Speaker 1: defense knows you want to run the ball and you're
- 10:10Speaker 1: able to run the ball, then that says a lot
- 10:13Speaker 1: about the efficiency of your of your blocking up front.
- 10:16Speaker 1: So I like what they see in the offense. This
- 10:18Speaker 1: is what I was expecting to see. H teene Waldron
- 10:21Speaker 1: game play calling, Geno's ability to have the freedom to
- 10:25Speaker 1: check out the line of scrimmage and put them in
- 10:26Speaker 1: the right place. All those things just seem to be
- 10:29Speaker 1: coming together at the right time for this for this
- 10:32Speaker 1: offense and for this team, and so if you get
- 10:33Speaker 1: the defense kind of going, then this could be a
- 10:36Speaker 1: way better season than a lot of people have thought.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And already the offensive, you know, are way better than
- 10:41Speaker 1: of what a lot of people thought. I hope you're right, Ray,
- 10:45Speaker 1: I feel good about it. I feel great about this offense.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Like you mentioned, I think they're they're there. You know,
- 10:49Speaker 1: there's a lot of good players on this team. They're
- 10:51Speaker 1: places to be made. They can get a lot better,
- 10:53Speaker 1: and I think hopefully we'll start to see that. Ray.
- 10:56Speaker 1: As always, we appreciate you breaking it down and hopping
- 10:58Speaker 1: on with us, and we will talk to you next week.
- 11:00Speaker 1: All right, Sure, you guys have a good one. Thanks Ray.
- 11:04Speaker 1: That was inside the trenches with Ray Roberts. Now it's
- 11:07Speaker 1: tiding to figure out what had happened. See what happened
- 11:10Speaker 1: at first, what had happened was unhard knock. Well, Um,
- 11:16Speaker 1: if you've learned anything about watching Seahawks football in the
- 11:19Speaker 1: last I don't know, fifteen years, you know it's nothing
- 11:22Speaker 1: disappoint It's gonna be entertaining. And my mess with your
- 11:24Speaker 1: heart a little bit, and my mess with that heart
- 11:26Speaker 1: right up down, up down, Sunday did not disappoint terms
- 11:29Speaker 1: of that being an up and down crazy game. Unfortunately,
- 11:32Speaker 1: it was disappointing in the final outcome as the Seahawks
- 11:34Speaker 1: lose to the Saints. Things got going pretty okay, you know, defensively,
- 11:38Speaker 1: they get a stop, you know, the Saints kick a
- 11:40Speaker 1: field goal, throw up three nothing. Then the Seahawks answer
- 11:43Speaker 1: with a five play seventy five yard drive ending with
- 11:45Speaker 1: the fifty yard bomb the DK metcalf making the score
- 11:48Speaker 1: seventy three. And I just love how they start. Man,
- 11:50Speaker 1: They're starting fast. Geno's in control from the first snap
- 11:54Speaker 1: of the game, taking him down on a nice drive,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and he's always poised. He's moving to his left, he's
- 11:58Speaker 1: doing things in the pocket and lending that and fly
- 12:00Speaker 1: down the field. So it was great to see that,
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know, kind of start the game off on a
- 12:04Speaker 1: good note. Yeah, they start off on a good note.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And then they hold the Saints to a field goal.
- 12:08Speaker 1: So you're looking at the defense, You're like, okay, we're
- 12:10Speaker 1: making some progress. You held him to him a field goal,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and then the Hawks will get the ball. Boom. Jason
- 12:16Speaker 1: Marris kicks a field goal, right we saw him last week,
- 12:19Speaker 1: miss one so we're seeing positivity early. We're like, okay,
- 12:21Speaker 1: you hold the Saints to a field goal, you drive
- 12:24Speaker 1: down the field, you score with DK, and then you
- 12:26Speaker 1: kick a field goal. You're up ten to three. Then
- 12:28Speaker 1: the Saints will kind of find their group. They go
- 12:30Speaker 1: on to ten place sixty nine yard drive with Taysom
- 12:33Speaker 1: Hill just the beginning of the day for Taysom Hill,
- 12:34Speaker 1: and they had an eight yard touchdown time the score
- 12:37Speaker 1: at ten ten. We saw a lot of this throughout
- 12:40Speaker 1: the game. Now it's number seven was getting busy. Yeah,
- 12:43Speaker 1: Taysom hill Man, we know what he was at YU,
- 12:46Speaker 1: we know what he is in the NFL. But he's
- 12:48Speaker 1: a Swiss Army Knife. He is a guy that you
- 12:50Speaker 1: cannot replicating for that Staints offense. He's everything. He's a receiver,
- 12:54Speaker 1: he's a quarterback, he's a running back, he's running back
- 12:57Speaker 1: kickoff returns, he's running down on plunt, he's running down
- 13:00Speaker 1: on special team. So he's Taysom Hill. He brought it
- 13:03Speaker 1: last Sunday and that it was rough for that Seahawks defense.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You know, as the game though went on, they would
- 13:09Speaker 1: both teams would exchange punts. Seahawks go three and out,
- 13:11Speaker 1: leading to another Michael Dixon punt, and this is where
- 13:14Speaker 1: things kind of broke down. Pete Carroll said after the game.
- 13:17Speaker 1: It was indeed not a fake punt, you know. It
- 13:19Speaker 1: was rugby style punt where the punter kind of holds
- 13:22Speaker 1: the ball a little bit, runs to the riot, everyone
- 13:24Speaker 1: kind of shuffles and they punted down. Unfortunately, things got
- 13:27Speaker 1: a little messy. Michael Dixon didn't think he'd get the
- 13:29Speaker 1: punt off, and eventually it was tackled by believe Taysom Hill.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Ye people God, for an eight yard loss and the
- 13:35Speaker 1: Saints took over Boom. Two plays theater, they're in the
- 13:37Speaker 1: end zone with again a Taysom Hill touchdown, making the
- 13:40Speaker 1: score seventeen ten. Yeah, they made it seventeen ten. And
- 13:43Speaker 1: then we saw a familiar thing rookie's making plays right.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant was forced to fumble, so Rik Willin will
- 13:49Speaker 1: recover it, and then that set up at thirty five
- 13:50Speaker 1: yard touchdown from Genome to Tyler Locket, making a score
- 13:54Speaker 1: nineteen to seventeen. And then the second half started out
- 13:58Speaker 1: bad for the Seahawks. Many get a fumble by DK
- 14:01Speaker 1: medcalf I didn't think it was a fumble that elbow
- 14:04Speaker 1: looked down to me, but I'm not the referee. I'm
- 14:06Speaker 1: not in New York. And that's set a big Chris
- 14:08Speaker 1: Olave touchdown, making the score twenty four two nineteen. That
- 14:13Speaker 1: was a tough swing right there. Tough swing. Seahawks have
- 14:15Speaker 1: momentum coming out of the half. They turn it over
- 14:18Speaker 1: on that possession, like you said, and I thought DK
- 14:21Speaker 1: was down, and then and then on the flip side
- 14:23Speaker 1: the Olive touchdown. You know, I probably think they got
- 14:28Speaker 1: it right, but it was still just to have those
- 14:30Speaker 1: bang bang calls both go against you like that, for
- 14:33Speaker 1: DKs to be a fumble and then Allive is to
- 14:35Speaker 1: be a catch through. It was just it was a
- 14:36Speaker 1: really tough break and then you know, fourteen point swing
- 14:38Speaker 1: for the Seahawks potentially. Then as a game, continuing three
- 14:42Speaker 1: three straight Seahawk punts, they did get back in the
- 14:44Speaker 1: end zone with an amazing forty yard bomb from Gino
- 14:47Speaker 1: Smith to Tyler Lockett, making it thirty one twenty five.
- 14:50Speaker 1: The Hawks would then force another punt, setting up a
- 14:52Speaker 1: sixty nine yard touchdown round by ken Walker, making the
- 14:56Speaker 1: score thirty two to thirty one with sixty fifty four
- 14:58Speaker 1: remaining in the fourth quarter bump. Things were looking good. Yep,
- 15:02Speaker 1: it was looking good. But however, that was the last
- 15:04Speaker 1: time the Seahawks would leave. The Saints would answer right
- 15:07Speaker 1: back man with a sixty yard a touchdown run by
- 15:10Speaker 1: who other Whoever. Then it'll Taysom breaking Hill making a
- 15:14Speaker 1: score thirty nine at thirty two, and then the Hawks
- 15:18Speaker 1: would punt in their and sewing possession, then initially ending
- 15:22Speaker 1: the game. That was tough because you felt like it
- 15:25Speaker 1: was a one band, one man band named Taysom Hill
- 15:29Speaker 1: with a sprinkle of Kamara in there, and that was
- 15:31Speaker 1: enough for the Saints a get or done. Yeah. The
- 15:34Speaker 1: Saints dominate time in possession thirty seven to thirty seven
- 15:38Speaker 1: and thirty five to twenty two twenty five. Saints had
- 15:41Speaker 1: four hundred and thirty yards of total offense to rush
- 15:43Speaker 1: for two hundred thirty five as you mentioned earlier, and
- 15:46Speaker 1: the Seahawks were also penalized twelve times for eighty five yards.
- 15:49Speaker 1: That's definitely something they want to get cleaned up. It's
- 15:51Speaker 1: kind of lingered throughout the last couple of weeks, and
- 15:55Speaker 1: this is another disappointing game. You know, the Seahawks were
- 15:57Speaker 1: state here at two and three definitely in the thick
- 15:59Speaker 1: of it right now in the NFC West. But you
- 16:02Speaker 1: just look at that and you go, man, you look
- 16:03Speaker 1: at that schedule and you think, at the very least
- 16:05Speaker 1: this team should probably be four and one yep, easily, easily. Man.
- 16:09Speaker 1: It's and that's the disappointing part, but it could be
- 16:11Speaker 1: the part that makes you optimistic because you feel like
- 16:14Speaker 1: they should be fourgn one. So they're doing enough things
- 16:16Speaker 1: to be in the game. It's got to tighten up
- 16:18Speaker 1: some things. No to nine defense, gott to tighten up offense.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Can't go one for nine on third downs again this week.
- 16:24Speaker 1: But uh, you know, rating this together, stay in the fight.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Come on, man, let's go. All right, let's see you
- 16:30Speaker 1: made some plays. Playmakers got started. The quarterback Geno Smith
- 16:44Speaker 1: killing the game sixteen and twenty five two hundred and
- 16:47Speaker 1: sixty eight yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions, QB rating of
- 16:50Speaker 1: one thirty nine point seven. Still had a sixty four
- 16:54Speaker 1: percent complete or percentage, which is pretty good for most
- 16:57Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the National Football League, But for Gino Smith,
- 17:00Speaker 1: that was his worst completion percentage by a little bit
- 17:03Speaker 1: this whole season, or let's first time this year he's
- 17:05Speaker 1: been under seventy two percent, obviously still playing great football,
- 17:08Speaker 1: gave him a chance to win. I deluded to it earlier.
- 17:11Speaker 1: He's made a ton of plays, rolling to his leaf,
- 17:13Speaker 1: that diming through the nowad fan the ball he through
- 17:15Speaker 1: to Tyler Lockett's flitting the safeties at the end of
- 17:18Speaker 1: the half there. I was stunned by kind of how
- 17:21Speaker 1: the New Orleans played that at the end of the
- 17:23Speaker 1: half time and score. They looked like they were in
- 17:25Speaker 1: kind of like a Tampa two look, and they were
- 17:26Speaker 1: just you know, Tyler Lockett, this finds way in to
- 17:29Speaker 1: see him in. The ball was thrown only where Tyler kokatch.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Just so, Geno Smith is playing at an MVP type level,
- 17:34Speaker 1: and he's doing a week after week after week. So
- 17:36Speaker 1: at some point, as Ray said it, he is showing
- 17:39Speaker 1: you who he is, right, this is who he is,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and that the road to Tyler Lockett you mentioned it
- 17:46Speaker 1: was on the dime. Tyler does a good job moving
- 17:48Speaker 1: the safety. I mean he's showing folks I can throw
- 17:50Speaker 1: that football down in the field too. Said with Ray,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I'm not just some dink and dumb type of guy.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Next playmaker, We're gonna depend on this guy heavily. Now
- 17:56Speaker 1: that rare shot Penny is out, it's Ken Walker. Eight
- 17:59Speaker 1: carries eighty a yards, one touchdown, scored his first NFL touchdown.
- 18:03Speaker 1: His first touchdown for Michigan State when he transferred was
- 18:06Speaker 1: a seventh yard touchdown. His first touchdown with the Seahawks
- 18:09Speaker 1: sixty nine yard touchdown. I missed it by by one yard.
- 18:13Speaker 1: But yeah, we're gonna depend on this young man. And
- 18:15Speaker 1: you see what he can do. You see the shiftiness,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you see the speed. I think once he learns the
- 18:19Speaker 1: temple of the game, he's a bit more patient in
- 18:21Speaker 1: that zone. Look, he's going to be fine. But this
- 18:24Speaker 1: is why you draft the running back this because you
- 18:26Speaker 1: don't know. With Rashad Penny, he's shown that he know
- 18:29Speaker 1: he gets banged up, and you never wish this on
- 18:32Speaker 1: Rashad and Penny the whole twenty. You get better, man,
- 18:34Speaker 1: you come back strong. But this is why you have
- 18:36Speaker 1: a stable full of running backs. Oh absolutely, you can
- 18:38Speaker 1: never have enough running backs. And you mentioned it with Rashad.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Rashad is one of the best dudes in this locker room.
- 18:43Speaker 1: And I my heart hurts for him because I know
- 18:45Speaker 1: how hard he's worked, I know how humble he is,
- 18:47Speaker 1: I know how just appreciative he is to have the
- 18:49Speaker 1: opportunity to go out with his teammates every week. And
- 18:51Speaker 1: he was bawling, he was falling. He was gonna be
- 18:53Speaker 1: at a pace where I swear, you know, I think
- 18:55Speaker 1: we mentioned it on Hawks Live. You know, if he
- 18:56Speaker 1: got the right amount of carries, I think he could
- 18:58Speaker 1: be a top rusher in that l I think he
- 19:01Speaker 1: was top three. That was the pace he was gonna
- 19:02Speaker 1: be on. So huge bummer. But as you alluded to,
- 19:05Speaker 1: I know the Seahawks took a lot of you know,
- 19:07Speaker 1: flack for drafting and running back in the second round. Well,
- 19:11Speaker 1: believe it or not, it looks like John Schneider and
- 19:13Speaker 1: Pete Carroll company know what they're doing. Sure mind know
- 19:15Speaker 1: a little bit. So no, I love to see it.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I think Ken Walker is is gonna be a big
- 19:19Speaker 1: part of this office moving forward. So hoping we get
- 19:22Speaker 1: more of that. The other playmaker, Tyler Lockett five reception,
- 19:25Speaker 1: two hundred and four yards, two touchdowns. Lockett passed his
- 19:28Speaker 1: teammate Doug Baldwin for fifth place on Seattle's all time
- 19:31Speaker 1: total touchdowns list fifty, also past Sean Alexander for second
- 19:35Speaker 1: place on Seattle's all time combines yard lists. And the
- 19:39Speaker 1: crazy thing about Tyler bump as he did all of
- 19:41Speaker 1: that in the second half. Tyler had zero receptions at halftime.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I think you mentioned right for the halftime show, like,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I don't think Tyler's gotta target yet, and then just
- 19:49Speaker 1: goes off in the second half. Yeah, Tyler man, he's
- 19:52Speaker 1: he's sneaky, mister consistent, misreliable. You can always count on
- 19:56Speaker 1: sixteen to make some plays where there's either intermediate or
- 19:59Speaker 1: deep talk about the other receiver over there. Number fourteen,
- 20:02Speaker 1: Dk Metcalfy had five receptions eighty eight yards one touchdown.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Metcalf scored his thirty first career receiving touchdown, tying him
- 20:09Speaker 1: with Steve Largen for third place for the most receiving
- 20:12Speaker 1: touchdowns in the players first four seasons in franchise history.
- 20:15Speaker 1: All Right, so every time they have a game, they're
- 20:17Speaker 1: gonna hit a new market, seems like, because that's two
- 20:19Speaker 1: weeks in a row where they're passing somebody up for something.
- 20:22Speaker 1: And DK could have had two touchdowns. I'm sure he's
- 20:24Speaker 1: watching the film right kicking him stuff. But DK and
- 20:28Speaker 1: Lockett having solid games at the same time. That's the
- 20:31Speaker 1: first time that's happened this year. Usually I think they
- 20:33Speaker 1: take turns. One guy leads to charge, the other guy
- 20:37Speaker 1: plays robbing to the batman. But it was nice seeing
- 20:40Speaker 1: Milakee get going and seeing DK do it as well. Yep,
- 20:43Speaker 1: gotta love it both those two. This offense obviously goes
- 20:46Speaker 1: with the run game, but at fourteen and sixteen are
- 20:48Speaker 1: making plays. They're definitely a dangerous unit going on the
- 20:52Speaker 1: defensive side, Chariq Willing just being consistent, mister rookie man.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Four tackles, one interception, one pass offended, one fumble recovery,
- 21:00Speaker 1: and man, that's three consecutive games with an interception. He's
- 21:03Speaker 1: just making plays. He is just making plays. And you
- 21:05Speaker 1: go a week before that he blocks a kick at
- 21:07Speaker 1: San Francisco. He is just putting his imprint on every
- 21:11Speaker 1: game plan and they're not micro Strufant mentioned it. A
- 21:14Speaker 1: lot of guys have talked about it. He's getting interceptions,
- 21:16Speaker 1: but he's taking the ball away. Ball is not just
- 21:19Speaker 1: being thrown to him. It's not an overthrow like, oh,
- 21:21Speaker 1: you know, lucky interception. No, he's making plays out there.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Great technique. I love what I'm seeing from the rookie
- 21:26Speaker 1: and he's just been I don't know where this defense
- 21:29Speaker 1: will be without Trek Won right now, and it's just
- 21:31Speaker 1: it's just a blessing to see where he's at and
- 21:33Speaker 1: just scary to see how good he can become. I mean,
- 21:37Speaker 1: Ryani said the post game instead, they're gonna stop testing
- 21:39Speaker 1: that man. You know they're gonna they're gonna see it
- 21:41Speaker 1: on film and stop throwing at him. But I hope
- 21:42Speaker 1: they do, because you're throwing at him. Tarka is gonna
- 21:44Speaker 1: come up with an interception. Last playmakers Jordan brooks Man,
- 21:49Speaker 1: he had eleven tackles, one pass defending, one QB hit,
- 21:52Speaker 1: was probably the best player on defense against the Saints,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and he was playing with an intensity then we haven't
- 21:58Speaker 1: seen yet. I mean, he's making open filled tackles and
- 22:01Speaker 1: he's not just getting him to the ground, he's driving
- 22:03Speaker 1: him to the ground. He's making the violent play, very physical,
- 22:06Speaker 1: fast type of player. That was his game. That's what
- 22:09Speaker 1: we knew of him, you know what I'm saying. So
- 22:10Speaker 1: it's nice to see him get back to the old
- 22:12Speaker 1: Jordan breaks. He's always filled up the stat the stat line,
- 22:15Speaker 1: that's what he does every single game. But he played
- 22:17Speaker 1: with a different type of intensity this game. Yeah, Jordan
- 22:20Speaker 1: Brooks is a guy that I've been saying for a
- 22:23Speaker 1: couple of years now. I think he's going to jump
- 22:25Speaker 1: to that Pro Bowl, you know, getting votes for All
- 22:29Speaker 1: Pro type status eventually, and I think I think yesterday
- 22:32Speaker 1: was the start of just him playing with that, and
- 22:34Speaker 1: he kind of just felt like he was playing more. Obviously,
- 22:36Speaker 1: it's tough in this scheme when you got guards in
- 22:38Speaker 1: everyone getting that second level quickly, but he was just
- 22:40Speaker 1: playing fast and aggressive. So love to see it from him. Now.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Flipping back to the offense, taking a look at this
- 22:46Speaker 1: wide receiver round up, looks like still spreading the wealth
- 22:50Speaker 1: around one, two, three, four, five, six different guys with
- 22:53Speaker 1: receptions on Sunday. Yeah, that's always good man. I like
- 22:56Speaker 1: being around six to eight. You get six to eight
- 22:58Speaker 1: guys involved in the past game means you're getting your
- 23:01Speaker 1: two headed monster in DK and Tyler involved, and then
- 23:04Speaker 1: you typically get three tight ends involved in a couple
- 23:08Speaker 1: of running backs and a miscellaneous type dud. But that's
- 23:10Speaker 1: what we're seeing. NOE Fan probably had his most targets
- 23:12Speaker 1: all year. He had five targets, three receptions forty nine
- 23:16Speaker 1: yards uncle Will had two for twenty one. DJ Dallas
- 23:18Speaker 1: got in the mix as well. Then d Eskers with
- 23:21Speaker 1: a target. We saw him out on the field a
- 23:22Speaker 1: lot more than we have in the past few weeks,
- 23:24Speaker 1: So maybe that's the forth shadowing there. We might see
- 23:27Speaker 1: a little bit more of D squares number one. Yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 1: and I'm gonna talk about d Stritch again in the
- 23:32Speaker 1: second here as we flip over the coach's corner, one
- 23:35Speaker 1: of the best plays from Sunday and that was ken
- 23:37Speaker 1: Walker taking it sixty nine yards to the house. Walker
- 23:41Speaker 1: the single setback a tight slot on the right side
- 23:44Speaker 1: is Escridge and Locket. Gino now walks over to talk
- 23:47Speaker 1: to them, comes back to the work center, talks to Medcalf.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Now goes under center on second down in short turns
- 23:55Speaker 1: hands for Walker, got a little running room, brek free
- 23:57Speaker 1: forty good fail, he is gonna go forty thirty twenty.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Look at the rookie cuts down Shayhawks ken Walker the third,
- 24:08Speaker 1: he's been bumping around in there all afternoon, finally finds
- 24:12Speaker 1: a gap and he is gone sixty nine yards hold
- 24:16Speaker 1: a touchdown, scamper him. The Seahawks have tied this up
- 24:20Speaker 1: at thirty one a piece um break it down for us. Man.
- 24:25Speaker 1: It's a little zone. Lucky guy. You got Uncle Will
- 24:28Speaker 1: to the right at the tighten spot attached to the
- 24:30Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. You got sixteen and number one Dscris
- 24:34Speaker 1: to the right of uncle Will Disley, and it's just
- 24:37Speaker 1: a zone left. Look, and here's the thing about this zone.
- 24:40Speaker 1: The zone. You always want to give the play side
- 24:42Speaker 1: a chance to work. You press the b gap to
- 24:44Speaker 1: the play side, that's the left side, and then if
- 24:46Speaker 1: nothing's there, you look for that cutback. I'm gonna save
- 24:49Speaker 1: d Askris for you because I know what you're gonna say, Bouts.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk about Uncle Will and Tyler Lockett on
- 24:53Speaker 1: this right here. Uncle Wood is a great job of
- 24:56Speaker 1: not feeling that d n Cam Jordan but forcing him
- 25:00Speaker 1: out sign in the number sixteen. Tyler Lockett not the
- 25:02Speaker 1: biggest man in the world, but understands, Okay, if there's
- 25:05Speaker 1: a cut bat lane, I have to make sure I
- 25:06Speaker 1: have some inside levershare to hold off this defender. And
- 25:10Speaker 1: then ken Walker just has the vision, the flow and
- 25:13Speaker 1: the speed to turn on the jets. You see Tyler
- 25:15Speaker 1: Lockets celebrating as soon as he turns and looks touchdown,
- 25:18Speaker 1: first touchdown of young career ken Walker yep, first of
- 25:22Speaker 1: hopefully many touchdowns for ken Walker. His explosiveness is it's
- 25:25Speaker 1: good to see the Seahawks, even without war Shot Penny,
- 25:28Speaker 1: have another legitimate home run threat in the backfield. He
- 25:31Speaker 1: looks like he's going to pick up right where Shot
- 25:33Speaker 1: Penny left off on explosive plays over thirty yards hopefully
- 25:36Speaker 1: a lot more touchdowns. But Bumpy mentioned it and d
- 25:39Speaker 1: Espridge hasn't done a lot in the statue necessarily, but
- 25:41Speaker 1: he's playing a lot more. And if you want to
- 25:43Speaker 1: start making plays, it starts right here in the run
- 25:46Speaker 1: game you mentioned him. He's at the top of the
- 25:47Speaker 1: formation and he gets a blocke on the safety and
- 25:50Speaker 1: that's a touchdown block. That's a block that really springs him.
- 25:53Speaker 1: You know, ken Walker has a great vision, he cuts back,
- 25:55Speaker 1: he's in the second level, but what really gets him
- 25:58Speaker 1: is the estridges block on the safety, and then he
- 26:00Speaker 1: also gets just enough the safety to kind of get
- 26:02Speaker 1: him in the other defensive backs way and then with
- 26:04Speaker 1: ken Walker speed, he's gone. You know, so I love that.
- 26:07Speaker 1: And who's the first person down there to celebrate with him?
- 26:10Speaker 1: Ds Rich and you know another thing I like about
- 26:12Speaker 1: the rookie is he I guess the yes is a
- 26:15Speaker 1: second year player, but he's essentially a rookie because he
- 26:17Speaker 1: missed so much time last year. Yeah, he even let
- 26:19Speaker 1: ken Walker do his thing. Wasn't sure where the celebration
- 26:21Speaker 1: was gonna be let him do his thing, don't interrupt
- 26:24Speaker 1: it till he's done, and then he celebrate with your boys.
- 26:26Speaker 1: So love what I'm seeing from Dskros. That was a
- 26:28Speaker 1: fun play and Ken ken Walker, Man, I think Bump
- 26:31Speaker 1: we got something good here. Tom to roll, Let's go Kim.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Unfortunately we were in our favorite formation last week. We
- 26:38Speaker 1: had been away from him for two weeks. But unfortunately
- 26:40Speaker 1: clock ran out once again. Une taking them fire Huntley.
- 26:47Speaker 1: They're just gonna let the clock wind down. But it's
- 26:49Speaker 1: not even gonna bother taking that last time out. Seahawks
- 26:53Speaker 1: really came down to them not being able to stop
- 26:56Speaker 1: Taysom Hill, who I want to say almost single handily
- 26:58Speaker 1: won the game for the Saints. Nine carries, one hundred
- 27:01Speaker 1: and twelve yards, three touchdowns. Also is one for one
- 27:04Speaker 1: passing with twenty two yards and a touchdown, a counter
- 27:07Speaker 1: for all but one touchdown, and it was really the
- 27:09Speaker 1: do it all guy for the Saints on Sunday, and
- 27:11Speaker 1: he definitely made the Seahawks hurt for it. Yeah. Man,
- 27:14Speaker 1: it was a Taysom Hill show. And I said a
- 27:17Speaker 1: sprinkle of album Camara earlier though, still had over one
- 27:20Speaker 1: hundred yards on the ground. You know what I'm saying.
- 27:21Speaker 1: It's Taysom Hill just did it all. You mentioned three touchdowns,
- 27:24Speaker 1: one passing touchdown. It was just too many explosive plays, right.
- 27:28Speaker 1: You got what six yard run by a Taysom Hill,
- 27:30Speaker 1: you got a fifty four yard run by Camara. It's
- 27:32Speaker 1: just right when you think you had them bottled up,
- 27:35Speaker 1: they will make a play. And they dominated the time
- 27:37Speaker 1: of possession. If you don't have the ball all right,
- 27:39Speaker 1: you're not controlling the temple of the game. You can't
- 27:41Speaker 1: make that many plays. Saints held the ball for thirty
- 27:43Speaker 1: seven minutes, the Hawks helder for twenty two. Yeah, and
- 27:46Speaker 1: then you look at total offense. Saints four hundred and
- 27:49Speaker 1: thirty eight yards. The Seahawks did, okay, they had three
- 27:52Speaker 1: ninety six. But when you're giving up consistently over four
- 27:54Speaker 1: hundred yards of offense, it's gonna be hard to win
- 27:56Speaker 1: any of those games. Giving up over two hundred rush yards.
- 27:59Speaker 1: It's gonna be tough to win any of those games.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And it sucks because they did get off the field
- 28:02Speaker 1: of times. They did make some plays, but you know,
- 28:05Speaker 1: the worst case scenario for them, you know, things just
- 28:07Speaker 1: happen breaking down on key plays and just too much
- 28:10Speaker 1: of that, unfortunately, and too many big plays for them
- 28:12Speaker 1: to get anything done. Big plays and penalties. The Hawks
- 28:16Speaker 1: are penalized twelve times for eighty five yards. That is
- 28:20Speaker 1: a recipe for disaster, big plays, penalty, and those penalties
- 28:23Speaker 1: were timely too. There's a couple of third down penalties.
- 28:25Speaker 1: There were one for eight on third down, so that
- 28:28Speaker 1: contributed to it as well. But you know how this
- 28:30Speaker 1: league goes, man, watch the film, learn from it. You
- 28:34Speaker 1: still gotta play ball, baby, come on. And again, it's
- 28:38Speaker 1: disappointing in a loss as we sit here on Monday
- 28:41Speaker 1: telling the truth about what happened yesterday. But this team
- 28:43Speaker 1: has shown a ton of reasons why they can be successful.
- 28:47Speaker 1: We said it earlier. This team easily could be four
- 28:50Speaker 1: and one on the season, and I think it's something
- 28:52Speaker 1: that they're gonna get there. It just needs some time. Luckily,
- 28:54Speaker 1: they're gonna have some home cooking as they return home
- 28:56Speaker 1: to Looman Field. This Sunday taken on the Arizona Cardinals.
- 29:00Speaker 1: That could be busy down there in Soda, but we'll
- 29:02Speaker 1: be back with you guys on Wednesday to let you
- 29:05Speaker 1: know all about the team, the Cardinals. We were playing
- 29:07Speaker 1: from my co host, Michael Bambas, I'm Nasa Chobe. This
- 29:10Speaker 1: has been another edition of Hawk Talk. Unfortunately, the Seahawks
- 29:12Speaker 1: drop the game to the Saints thirty nine thirty two.
- 29:15Speaker 1: We'll talk to you on Wednesday.
