- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The proppers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The feast of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, October 17 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today's saint, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes, Margaret Mary Alacoque was born at Verover in the Diocese of Autun in 1647. While still young she consecrated herself to Jesus Christ by a vow of perpetual virginity. At the age of 23 she entered the convent of the visitation order mysteries of the Sacred Heart were revealed to her in three special manifestations all unknown to her community.
- 1:01St. Margaret Mary spent the last years of her life in spreading this devotion. She died on 10/17/1690 at the age of 43 years. Her body was buried under a slab close to the grill in the nun's chapel on the spot where she was kneeling when Our Lord appeared to her. She was beatified by Pope Pius IX in 1864 and canonized by Benedict XV on the Feast of the Ascension nineteen twenty, Pope Pius XI extended her feast to the whole church on 06/28/1929.
- 1:53In order to live in the spirit of the liturgy which is also the spirit of the church and consecrate the first Friday of the month to the Sacred Heart as the Church does by granting indulgences. Let us adapt this devotion to the different feasts of the cycle. It will thus give a greater variety both in its material object, the heart of Jesus born at Christmas, dying on Good Friday, rising again at Easter, and in its formal object, the love of Jesus in his joyful, sorrowful, and glorious mysteries. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
- 2:53The introit. I sat down under the shadow of him for whom my heart had longed, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. O Lord of hosts, how I love thy dwelling place for the courts of the Lord's house. My soul faints with longing. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages.
- 3:29Amen. I sat down under the shadow of him for whom my heart had longed and his fruit was sweet to my taste. The Collect, let us pray. O Lord Jesus Christ, who to the blessed Virgin Margaret Mary didst in a wondrous manner reveal the unsearchable riches of thy heart by her merits grant that loving thee after her example in all things and above all things we may obtain an abode in thy heart for evermore. Who live and reignest with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 4:25Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians. Brethren, on me, least of all the saints, God has bestowed the privilege of making known to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ, of publishing to the world the plan of this mystery kept hidden from the beginning of time in the all creating mind of God. With this in mind I fall on my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. That Father from whom all fatherhood in heaven and on earth takes its title.
- 5:22May He, out of the rich treasury of His glory, strengthen you through his spirit with a power that reaches your innermost being. May Christ find a dwelling place through faith in your hearts. May your lives be rooted in love founded on love. May you and all the saints be enabled to measure in all its breadth and length and height and depth the love of Christ to know what passes knowledge. May you be filled with all the fullness God has to give.
- 6:18The gradual. Love is a fire. No waters avail to quench. No floods to drown. My flesh and my heart have fainted away.
- 6:34Thou art the God of my heart and the God that is my portion forever. Alleluia, alleluia. My beloved is all mine, and he is longing for me. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew.
- 7:03At that time Jesus answered and said, Father, who art Lord of heaven and earth, I give thee praise that thou hast hidden all this from the wise and the prudent, and revealed it to little children. Be it so, Father, since this finds favor in thy sight. My Father has entrusted everything into my hands. None knows the Son truly except the Father, and none knows the Father truly except the Son and those to whom it is the Son's good pleasure to reveal him. Come to me, all you that labor and are burdened.
- 7:56I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon yourselves, and learn from me. I am gentle and humble of heart, and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. The Offertory.
- 8:25What greater benefit, what fairer gift do we receive from him than the corn and wine which breed strong men and maids? The secret. May the offerings of thy people be accepted by thee, O Lord, and grant that we may be inflamed by that divine fire coming from the heart of thy Son which burnt vehemently within blessed Margaret Mary. Through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 9:19The Common Preface Just it is indeed and fitting right in for our salvation that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven, together with the blessed Seraphim, joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest.
- 10:18Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. My beloved is all mine, and I am his. See where he goes out to pasture among the lilies.
- 10:48The post communion let us pray. We have shared, O Lord Jesus, in the sacred mysteries of thy body and blood. Do thou in answer to the prayers of the blessed Virgin Margaret Mary, make us renounce the proud vanities of the world and be made worthy to be clothed with the meekness and humility of thine own heart who livest and reignest with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the son and of the holy ghost.
- 11:43Amen. Thanks be to God. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, pray for us.
