- 0:00Tracy Cartwright: Kiona and welcome to Constellations and all that.
- 0:03Tracy Cartwright: I'm your host, Tracy Cartwright, and together we will be exploring the world of family constellations with facilitators for and clients from around the world, looking at different perspectives and experiences in the work, having a cup of tea, and just chatting with some friends around their experiences in constellations.
- 0:23Tracy Cartwright: We'd love for you to join us.
- 0:25Tracy Cartwright: I hope that you enjoy this series as much as I have loved making it.
- 0:33Tracy Cartwright: Kde, everyone.
- 0:34Tracy Cartwright: Welcome to Constellations and all that.
- 0:37Tracy Cartwright: We are nearing the end of August already.
- 0:40Tracy Cartwright: Um, and we're just starting to come into spring, which is, is so exciting.
- 0:44Tracy Cartwright: And today I am super excited to have my friend and colleague, Yle Lao joining me today for a conversation, for a chat.
- 0:53Tracy Cartwright: And I was just saying before we started push record, this feels juicy.
- 0:56Tracy Cartwright: It feels like there's gonna be some, yeah, some great topics that come up.
- 0:59Tracy Cartwright: So, welcome you
- 1:00Yee Ley Lau: lay.
- 1:01Yee Ley Lau: Really
- 1:01Tracy Cartwright: excited to have you here.
- 1:03Yee Ley Lau: Thank you, Tracy.
- 1:04Yee Ley Lau: It's good to be here and, uh, I can fill my heart beating with anticipation and excitement.
- 1:10Yee Ley Lau: Yay.
- 1:11Tracy Cartwright: Yay.
- 1:12Tracy Cartwright: Um, for those who dunno, you, would you like to share a little bit about yourself, whatever is there for you, whatever sure is present.
- 1:21Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 1:21Yee Ley Lau: I'm currently living in Wnu, New Zealand.
- 1:24Yee Ley Lau: I've been in New Zealand for.
- 1:26Yee Ley Lau: 11 years now and um, I was born in the uk.
- 1:29Yee Ley Lau: My parents are Hong Kong Chinese.
- 1:32Yee Ley Lau: Um, so I feel like I have a international flavor after being what they call BBC, British born Chinese brought up there and now over here, the other Southern hemisphere, I, um, used to be a a IT business analyst and moved into all things weird and wonderful.
- 1:53Yee Ley Lau: Um, my energy healing.
- 1:55Yee Ley Lau: Uh, sound is what I use now.
- 1:58Yee Ley Lau: Sound healing, and I help people facilitate a space for people to connect with their voice.
- 2:03Yee Ley Lau: And I love constellations and yeah, I just love exploring different ways of accessing and connecting to ourselves.
- 2:11Yee Ley Lau: So that's me.
- 2:13Tracy Cartwright: Beautiful.
- 2:13Tracy Cartwright: I think we, you and I met probably about 10 years ago, maybe, maybe 10, 9, 9 or 10 years ago, and I remember seeing you driving through there.
- 2:22Tracy Cartwright: Coming into the car park.
- 2:23Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 2:24Tracy Cartwright: And then we met at the beginning of a beautiful weekend at Orang Ma Marai in the upper.
- 2:28Tracy Cartwright: Oh, that's right.
- 2:29Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 2:30Tracy Cartwright: So, um, one of the questions, and you may have heard this on my podcast before, is how did you meet constellations?
- 2:39Tracy Cartwright: Just for the
- 2:40Yee Ley Lau: Mm. Um, I'll mention two touch points with constellations.
- 2:45Yee Ley Lau: Uh, one, whilst I was in the UK before I came to New Zealand, it was introduced very.
- 2:50Yee Ley Lau: In a very abstract way, meaning my friend, uh, or my reiki teacher at, so, um, he experienced it and we do, did a lot of earth, what I call earthworks and working with lay lines.
- 3:02Yee Ley Lau: And we were out in looking at the Mary Magdalene line, I can't remember now, which part of, I think we're in south of Wales somewhere.
- 3:12Yee Ley Lau: And he said, oh, I've learned the single constellations and so be thought I am.
- 3:17Yee Ley Lau: We were representing towns in this situation.
- 3:20Tracy Cartwright: Oh, wow.
- 3:20Tracy Cartwright: And we
- 3:20Yee Ley Lau: just, you know, trusted that flow.
- 3:22Yee Ley Lau: And I was representing a town.
- 3:24Yee Ley Lau: Other people were represent, uh, representing towns and the energy flow between them.
- 3:29Yee Ley Lau: So that was like one little glimpse I've heard about it, and it's like, we could really feel the energy.
- 3:35Yee Ley Lau: My arms were swinging up for connection or disconnection to the next town.
- 3:40Yee Ley Lau: It's quite interesting.
- 3:42Yee Ley Lau: So that was my first.
- 3:43Yee Ley Lau: Hint of constellations.
- 3:46Yee Ley Lau: And then when I moved to, uh, New Zealand, came to New Zealand all those years ago, I was doing house set in, and that's where I met a lot of the healers in the area.
- 3:57Yee Ley Lau: Hence, our connection at oray, the Marai.
- 4:01Yee Ley Lau: And one of the people there I think was just training.
- 4:04Yee Ley Lau: In fact, you, I think you're both training.
- 4:06Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 4:06Yee Ley Lau: And so I think I attended her first public constellations.
- 4:09Yee Ley Lau: I think that's where I was.
- 4:10Yee Ley Lau: I can't remember the timeline of it.
- 4:12Yee Ley Lau: It's either there or, or wrong or my.
- 4:14Yee Ley Lau: And it was my first experience of family constellations in its originality.
- 4:19Yee Ley Lau: If that's, if that's the word to use.
- 4:21Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 4:22Yee Ley Lau: So actually having family members represented.
- 4:24Yee Ley Lau: So I had a session and it was so amazing because the people represented, you know, one was my mother, my father, and this blind spot was my grandmother.
- 4:33Yee Ley Lau: And um, just the emotions that came up in my.
- 4:36Yee Ley Lau: Body just as the seeker.
- 4:38Yee Ley Lau: Uh, it was just so interesting and even more so as a representative to actually feel the feelings and then have the facilitator help me with the words.
- 4:47Yee Ley Lau: That was a big thing for me is to have some sentences or words to acknowledge what was going on.
- 4:54Yee Ley Lau: 'cause I was very much in freeze mode pretty much.
- 4:57Yee Ley Lau: Or, or fa Yeah.
- 4:58Yee Ley Lau: So for years I was new.
- 5:00Yee Ley Lau: My body was contracted or I was stuck in freeze mode going, something's not right here, or something's off.
- 5:08Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 5:08Yee Ley Lau: And then having the facilitator give those words, my body was like, oh.
- 5:13Yee Ley Lau: Wow.
- 5:14Yee Ley Lau: It made sense.
- 5:15Yee Ley Lau: It made sense.
- 5:16Yee Ley Lau: So that was a big, that was a big aha moment of like, wow, what is this?
- 5:21Yee Ley Lau: What is this thing?
- 5:22Yee Ley Lau: What is this stuff?
- 5:23Yee Ley Lau: What is this stuff?
- 5:25Yee Ley Lau: So having for me words, I know people other way around, but that was my gateway into wow, having relief of.
- 5:33Yee Ley Lau: Oh, so finally there's some words that match the energy.
- 5:36Yee Ley Lau: So I just became a Constellation rep junkie and I was just super fascinated with dynamics.
- 5:45Yee Ley Lau: I had so many questions I think I remember asking you and um, the other facilitator, and I'm, how do you know what to say?
- 5:52Yee Ley Lau: How do you know what to say and give the sentences?
- 5:55Yee Ley Lau: That was my thing, I think.
- 5:57Yee Ley Lau: Was it Mark who was the Mark Johnson?
- 6:00Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 6:01Yee Ley Lau: He was asking and you were flanking or you're beside him and you.
- 6:05Yee Ley Lau: I remember him asking you.
- 6:06Yee Ley Lau: So yeah, how are you gonna respond, Tracy?
- 6:10Yee Ley Lau: I don't know.
- 6:12Yee Ley Lau: So yeah, really fascinating.
- 6:13Tracy Cartwright: Those early days are quite, um.
- 6:15Tracy Cartwright: Yeah, it can be a little bit overwhelming stepping in as a facilitator in those early days when you may have done some training or, or experienced many workshops and then you're stepping in to facilitate and all of a sudden you are, how do I do this?
- 6:30Tracy Cartwright: How, you know, like, how does this come through?
- 6:32Tracy Cartwright: How does.
- 6:34Tracy Cartwright: My biggest thing that I say to the people that are training with me is trust.
- 6:39Tracy Cartwright: Trust the field.
- 6:40Tracy Cartwright: Trust that when you stop and listen, the answers will come forward.
- 6:44Tracy Cartwright: Every now and then I have a what?
- 6:45Tracy Cartwright: The moment.
- 6:47Tracy Cartwright: I have no idea.
- 6:48Tracy Cartwright: No idea.
- 6:49Tracy Cartwright: And I'll walk around and I'll go, Hmm, no idea.
- 6:51Tracy Cartwright: No idea what's to do now.
- 6:53Tracy Cartwright: And then suddenly maybe a representative will bark an answer for me, or, or, or, or say something or I've got this, um, the field speaks to me and says, oh, he's just stand still here for long enough.
- 7:05Tracy Cartwright: There'll be an answer for you.
- 7:07Tracy Cartwright: So that's, I do it now.
- 7:08Tracy Cartwright: And at the time, Mara just remember being like, I dunno how I'm gonna answer that one.
- 7:12Tracy Cartwright: That when Mark asked me those questions.
- 7:14Tracy Cartwright: Mm, you look very contemplative for that
- 7:17Yee Ley Lau: one.
- 7:17Yee Ley Lau: Let me buy some time here.
- 7:19Yee Ley Lau: If I pretend like I know what I'm doing,
- 7:22Tracy Cartwright: something might happen.
- 7:23Yee Ley Lau: And that's true for all of us.
- 7:24Yee Ley Lau: For anything, right?
- 7:25Yee Ley Lau: When we, when we start out, when we're the student and, and, and I think we're a forever student, it feels like in, in the field.
- 7:32Yee Ley Lau: And thanks to you, Tracy.
- 7:33Yee Ley Lau: 'cause I, uh, for those such to know Tracy, Tracy's been my mentor in this, in this field to own.
- 7:40Yee Ley Lau: Facilitator hat.
- 7:42Yee Ley Lau: Um, and to have that, I said that trust in the field, but also that relationship with the field or And yourself, yourself and the field and to, yeah, claiming that facilitator space, not in a kind of a authoritarian or controlling aspect, but I really appreciated the difference between a rep being a rep.
- 8:00Yee Ley Lau: 'cause the rep. As a rep, I had loads of points of view of where this should be going, and then go hang on a minute.
- 8:08Yee Ley Lau: But as the facilitator, it feels so different and they have their own relationship with the, with the seeker and the field, it feels like.
- 8:15Yee Ley Lau: And there's no right or wrong, but there's just a different um.
- 8:19Yee Ley Lau: Order if I think.
- 8:20Tracy Cartwright: Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 8:22Tracy Cartwright: I'd love to just jump in and talk about your sound healing 'cause you use constellations and sound.
- 8:28Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 8:29Yee Ley Lau: That was like a happy accident.
- 8:31Yee Ley Lau: If that's the word.
- 8:32Yee Ley Lau: If that's the phrase like I've been working with sound for.
- 8:36Yee Ley Lau: That was probably my first, one of my earlier segues into energy healing.
- 8:41Yee Ley Lau: I was back in 2007, I did reiki and then.
- 8:44Yee Ley Lau: A few, you know, through my Reiki teacher, he thankfully offered lots of different, um, classes including, um, vocal toning.
- 8:53Yee Ley Lau: And then there was a lady in town in London, this was back in London, um, who a thing called Divine Light Sound Baths.
- 9:01Yee Ley Lau: And, um, oh wow.
- 9:03Yee Ley Lau: And it was, she was an opera singer.
- 9:05Yee Ley Lau: She's an opera singer, and she works with the angelic realm.
- 9:08Yee Ley Lau: And she, her, her, back in the day it was called, I, I think the term was coined in London, I'm not sure.
- 9:13Yee Ley Lau: But it, she was, we're all there sleeping on the floor in our sleeping bags.
- 9:17Yee Ley Lau: 'cause Oh, well that's, that's a great way to just be compact with your, you know, what you take.
- 9:23Yee Ley Lau: Um, and then she sang.
- 9:25Yee Ley Lau: In her voice in, in this, um, for those that dunno the, uh, uh, language of light or, or, um, in a different language.
- 9:33Yee Ley Lau: And walked around with chimes and I cried.
- 9:36Yee Ley Lau: And so with the sound, that was my start of my sound journey.
- 9:40Yee Ley Lau: So I went along to her voice.
- 9:42Yee Ley Lau: So that was the start of my sound journey and it was my voice.
- 9:45Yee Ley Lau: And then a few classes with her.
- 9:48Yee Ley Lau: She just provided the space of gentleness and no judgment and that.
- 9:53Yee Ley Lau: Had awoken something within me and this other voice came through me and my mind couldn't work out what was going on.
- 10:02Yee Ley Lau: So long story short, she'd just say, you'll be doing this in New Zealand.
- 10:06Yee Ley Lau: I was like, what?
- 10:08Yee Ley Lau: As in teaching classes.
- 10:09Yee Ley Lau: Like I, what?
- 10:10Yee Ley Lau: Well, since I've
- 10:12Tracy Cartwright: known you, I associate you with sound.
- 10:14Tracy Cartwright: 'cause you Yeah.
- 10:15Tracy Cartwright: You always, yeah.
- 10:16Tracy Cartwright: You had so many beautiful instruments and I see some in the background there, but that is, it is yle and, and yle sound as well, so,
- 10:24Yee Ley Lau: yeah.
- 10:24Yee Ley Lau: And it's
- 10:25Tracy Cartwright: magical.
- 10:26Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 10:26Yee Ley Lau: So it's been a thank you.
- 10:27Yee Ley Lau: So it's been a bit of a journey, meaning that I wanted to, I, as you do you, you copy your mentors for a little bit until you find your own style.
- 10:36Yee Ley Lau: And so I asked her permission like, can I deliver those classes?
- 10:38Yee Ley Lau: But I just found that people were a little bit shy with connecting with their voice.
- 10:42Yee Ley Lau: So I ended up buying some.
- 10:45Yee Ley Lau: Crystal Bowls as one, a security blanket for me and Soundbars as a, as an accessible way for people to meet me.
- 10:55Yee Ley Lau: But it actually then became a thing'cause I then starting creating Soundbars.
- 10:59Yee Ley Lau: So this is again, probably about that time when I, when I moved to New Zealand.
- 11:04Yee Ley Lau: The whole sound thing came out more into the public rather than private practice, as in practicing for myself.
- 11:11Yee Ley Lau: So a few instruments later, um, actually do like magpie.
- 11:16Yee Ley Lau: Ooh, what's that one?
- 11:18Yee Ley Lau: So I started connecting and creating a little.
- 11:22Yee Ley Lau: A group of friends with my instruments and using my voice to create soundscapes for people and just notice people go, wow.
- 11:31Yee Ley Lau: And they felt so relaxed and especially with the voice.
- 11:34Yee Ley Lau: So then I started doing the voice, um, classes as soon as they got to know me.
- 11:39Yee Ley Lau: So this is interesting 'cause I was repping as a Eller in, you know, in parallel and not making an association.
- 11:46Yee Ley Lau: 'cause with the voice workshops, what happened was I started crafting that.
- 11:50Yee Ley Lau: My own, like my own way and influences from different teachers.
- 11:54Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 11:54Yee Ley Lau: Not just the lady in London, but I went a lot of, on a lot of voice classes.
- 11:59Yee Ley Lau: And I created this thing where someone sat in the middle and the other people, um, I invite them to then.
- 12:09Yee Ley Lau: Just follow their body intelligence and stand in proximity to the person in the middle.
- 12:14Yee Ley Lau: So after a few warmups with their voice, I'm inviting them to tune into the person in the middle and gift whatever sound that wants to come through.
- 12:22Yee Ley Lau: So the person in the middle may ask for something.
- 12:24Yee Ley Lau: They go, I want more peace.
- 12:25Yee Ley Lau: I would like more joy, I want more confidence.
- 12:28Yee Ley Lau: So it can be an emotion or an archetype.
- 12:31Yee Ley Lau: And so the Sounders are then gifting and voicing, giving voices to that.
- 12:38Yee Ley Lau: Request in response.
- 12:40Yee Ley Lau: So that was happening parallel.
- 12:42Yee Ley Lau: So it took me a while to go, hang on a minute.
- 12:44Yee Ley Lau: I'm doing voice constellations where?
- 12:46Yee Ley Lau: Yeah, and the constellation's all about relationships.
- 12:48Yee Ley Lau: It's like it's always you and something or the people, emotions, situations, places.
- 12:56Yee Ley Lau: So I just realized that.
- 13:00Yee Ley Lau: Where people were standing were giving voice to perhaps unexpressed emotion, a conversation with the parent inspiration that wanted to come through.
- 13:09Yee Ley Lau: So people were kind of like voicing those things.
- 13:11Yee Ley Lau: So they, they were coming outta their mind of, oh, this is what it is.
- 13:14Yee Ley Lau: But they were just being the conduits for the sound in the field in relation to the person receiving
- 13:19Tracy Cartwright: fabulous.
- 13:21Yee Ley Lau: So, yeah, that's.
- 13:22Yee Ley Lau: How, and then I was like, oh my God, there's a voice const.
- 13:25Yee Ley Lau: I'm doing a some form of constellations with voice and sound.
- 13:31Tracy Cartwright: Beautiful.
- 13:32Tracy Cartwright: And have you seen that evolve over time?
- 13:34Yee Ley Lau: I have.
- 13:35Yee Ley Lau: So thanks to landing here in Nui.
- 13:39Yee Ley Lau: Um.
- 13:40Yee Ley Lau: 'cause I've moved around quite a lot in New Zealand.
- 13:43Yee Ley Lau: I started creating, um, the class as a more regular class, like a choir format, which meant I could see the development of people and also their suggestions.
- 13:53Yee Ley Lau: 'cause I always ask people, what would you like to sound?
- 13:56Yee Ley Lau: And we've been.
- 13:58Yee Ley Lau: All over.
- 13:58Yee Ley Lau: Like, I would like to sound motherhood.
- 14:00Yee Ley Lau: I'd like to sound like, um, hurt or anger.
- 14:04Yee Ley Lau: So quite interesting.
- 14:05Yee Ley Lau: So one I get to embody is it comes back to the somatics, I guess the felt sense in the field.
- 14:10Yee Ley Lau: This is a really good practice to try, try a jacket on, sound it, and go, oh, okay.
- 14:16Yee Ley Lau: I've integrated that or.
- 14:18Yee Ley Lau: I that's now dissipated or it doesn't fit anymore.
- 14:21Yee Ley Lau: And we've done things like astrology.
- 14:23Yee Ley Lau: You know, someone represent my son, my moon, my ascendant, and we've sounded that, so we've gone really ap.
- 14:31Yee Ley Lau: Did they know
- 14:31Tracy Cartwright: what this their signs were or they just No, they didn't
- 14:33Yee Ley Lau: have to know.
- 14:34Yee Ley Lau: They just stood in the place of, yeah, of what that is for the person.
- 14:40Yee Ley Lau: We've sounded for the Wonga River here, we've sounded for how's wie feeling?
- 14:45Tracy Cartwright: Can we just touch on that?
- 14:47Tracy Cartwright: Because.
- 14:48Tracy Cartwright: The Wang River is the only river in the world of farm, correct.
- 14:52Tracy Cartwright: That has a legal identity of a living being.
- 14:55Yee Ley Lau: That is correct,
- 14:57Tracy Cartwright: yes.
- 14:58Yee Ley Lau: It's quite interesting.
- 14:59Yee Ley Lau: I have so many
- 14:59Tracy Cartwright: questions around that.
- 15:00Tracy Cartwright: Fantastic.
- 15:01Tracy Cartwright: So you sounded.
- 15:02Tracy Cartwright: And Constellated for that.
- 15:04Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 15:05Yee Ley Lau: From people for the mountain, and it's giving, for me, it's giving voice for the UN, for those that don't have a voice or have not been given a voice, which is the same.
- 15:14Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 15:14Yee Ley Lau: Well, for me it's like you're speaking to constellations in that sense of what.
- 15:19Yee Ley Lau: Was unconscious is being made conscious.
- 15:22Yee Ley Lau: What was hidden is now being seen, seen, felt, heard.
- 15:26Yee Ley Lau: I really love this.
- 15:27Yee Ley Lau: Where I'm coming to is like, oh, what am I, what?
- 15:30Yee Ley Lau: Sometimes you go, what the heck am I doing in consternation?
- 15:32Yee Ley Lau: What are we supposed to be doing here?
- 15:34Yee Ley Lau: So for me it's like we're really uncovering things and things are being seen, felt, heard in some way.
- 15:40Yee Ley Lau: Mm-hmm.
- 15:41Tracy Cartwright: I love that analogy of you put on a jacket and you sound it, and then you've integrated it and you can take it off.
- 15:46Tracy Cartwright: Being able to see or or hear your anger in the field and it might sound differently to what you are holding onto and think that it has to sound like, you know, like or the grief or,
- 15:59Yee Ley Lau: yeah, I love that.
- 16:00Yee Ley Lau: Absolutely.
- 16:01Yee Ley Lau: There's been some really interesting ones where people think.
- 16:05Yee Ley Lau: For example, angers are, I guess a quite a common one that's requested actually.
- 16:09Yee Ley Lau: Um, and I think it's gonna be this way, but actually I think actually, no, I think it's rage.
- 16:13Yee Ley Lau: Rage.
- 16:14Yee Ley Lau: Um, they think it's gonna be look and sound a certain way, but when people drop into it and they tune into it, something else comes out.
- 16:22Yee Ley Lau: That's actually, it's like the thing sitting behind the rage and it's like creativity or passion or powers that, that it is, that, that has that flavor instead.
- 16:32Yee Ley Lau: And it's like, oh, that's really interesting.
- 16:33Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 16:35Tracy Cartwright: Oh, you've got me thinking now, all sorts of things.
- 16:38Tracy Cartwright: How do you describe constellations or your style of constellations to someone who, who hasn't experienced it before?
- 16:46Yee Ley Lau: Good question.
- 16:46Yee Ley Lau: I'm having different variations depending on who the recipient is, but the one I'm using, the words I'm using is an experiential learning process.
- 16:56Yee Ley Lau: Where you get to uncover and understand the relationships and the terms and conditions that have been placed on those relationships.
- 17:06Yee Ley Lau: You get to review them to see if they're still valid and working for you.
- 17:12Yee Ley Lau: And we do that by representation through standing in the field to get, you get to stand in the field in your system or the systems to which you belong, gain a different perspective.
- 17:25Yee Ley Lau: So that's,
- 17:26Tracy Cartwright: and for someone who doesn't know what the field is, because I had a friend who who said to me, can you just explain some of this lingo that you talk about?
- 17:36Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 17:36Tracy Cartwright: It sounds a little cliquey like.
- 17:39Tracy Cartwright: 'cause she didn't understand the, you know, the, like when you say you're gonna be constellated or when you are going to have a constellation or, or the hot seat and what is the field, you know?
- 17:50Tracy Cartwright: So how do you describe it to people?
- 17:54Yee Ley Lau: Again, it depends with the recipient is so.
- 17:56Yee Ley Lau: I'm gonna tune in now just to see what words can come out with that will be useful for people listening.
- 18:01Yee Ley Lau: So for me, it's allowing oneself to tune into their own awareness.
- 18:05Yee Ley Lau: Mm-hmm.
- 18:06Yee Ley Lau: Like people use a field of field of consciousness.
- 18:08Yee Ley Lau: Really it's a field of awareness.
- 18:09Yee Ley Lau: So when you give your opportunity and give the yourself the time is supposed to tap into your own awareness.
- 18:16Yee Ley Lau: And there's a collective dynamic there that, you know, there'll be common themes like this.
- 18:22Yee Ley Lau: An experience that's happened like with your parents and the children, there's always some mainstream themes that we all resonate with or we all recognize or have experience, so, so it's kind like stepping into that field of your own awareness of, and the experiences that's in your own field, but also is available in the collective field.
- 18:44Yee Ley Lau: Great description.
- 18:46Tracy Cartwright: It's, it's just don repeat.
- 18:47Tracy Cartwright: Don't ask me to repeat what I've just said.
- 18:49Tracy Cartwright: It is, it is really, you're, you're absolutely right.
- 18:51Tracy Cartwright: It's like who you are with, how do you describe this?
- 18:54Tracy Cartwright: Where, what is their understanding?
- 18:56Tracy Cartwright: And sometimes you can start talking and you see the, they've gone blank.
- 18:59Tracy Cartwright: Oh, okay.
- 19:00Tracy Cartwright: I need to reframe this in a different way.
- 19:02Tracy Cartwright: Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:03Tracy Cartwright: Come.
- 19:03Tracy Cartwright: I think
- 19:04Yee Ley Lau: that's what I've realized is.
- 19:07Yee Ley Lau: Even though I say it one way, it can be one way for someone who knows how, like you said, those words are familiar.
- 19:13Yee Ley Lau: If they're unfamiliar, then it's like, okay, and go, oh, I'm kind of checking out or even asking them what their background is.
- 19:20Yee Ley Lau: If they've come from, like me, I've come from an IT background.
- 19:23Yee Ley Lau: I can use that lingo.
- 19:24Yee Ley Lau: I can use that language.
- 19:26Yee Ley Lau: But if I don't, then I'm, you can see it on their face, huh?
- 19:30Yee Ley Lau: Like, is this landing?
- 19:32Yee Ley Lau: Not quite.
- 19:33Yee Ley Lau: And then maybe there's some metaphor that can be used in a language that's accessible to them.
- 19:38Yee Ley Lau: Um, so just finding out,
- 19:40Tracy Cartwright: yeah, I remember meeting, um.
- 19:42Tracy Cartwright: Lip Fung, I think it was, I think I've said his name right in Sydney years ago.
- 19:48Tracy Cartwright: And he described that in China because the young ones are no longer as connected to the ancestral, um, practices as their elders.
- 19:58Tracy Cartwright: And they, they weren't understanding what he was saying.
- 20:00Tracy Cartwright: So he's, he refers to.
- 20:03Tracy Cartwright: The field that we're working in right now as your wifi hotspot.
- 20:07Yee Ley Lau: Oh, yes.
- 20:07Yee Ley Lau: Oh yes.
- 20:08Yee Ley Lau: I remember you saying yes.
- 20:09Tracy Cartwright: And that worked really well.
- 20:10Tracy Cartwright: They were like,
- 20:11Yee Ley Lau: oh, yeah, yeah.
- 20:12Yee Ley Lau: And
- 20:12Tracy Cartwright: then they were saying, you know, like, we're going to, and in this work we will, you know, put things back into order.
- 20:18Tracy Cartwright: Oh, like defragging your computer.
- 20:20Tracy Cartwright: Oh, yeah.
- 20:21Tracy Cartwright: They, they got those.
- 20:22Tracy Cartwright: Terminologies.
- 20:24Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 20:24Tracy Cartwright: So it is putting it into a language that, um, you know, well, obviously it's not exactly the same, but it's it was similar enough that they could understand it.
- 20:33Yee Ley Lau: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:34Yee Ley Lau: That they could get the concept of what's happening and the components involved.
- 20:37Yee Ley Lau: Mm-hmm.
- 20:38Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 20:38Yee Ley Lau: I think it's just practice.
- 20:40Yee Ley Lau: Like, you're gonna come, we were gonna come across different walks of life and go, okay, what analogy can I use here that resonates?
- 20:45Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 20:46Yee Ley Lau: And, uh.
- 20:47Tracy Cartwright: Do you have any facilitators that you're, that you've, um, worked with or that you've seen working online or something, someone that you would say, oh, that's one of my top favorite facilitators.
- 21:00Yee Ley Lau: I'm really, yeah.
- 21:02Yee Ley Lau: I find a lot of, there's a lot of facilitators I find inspiring and.
- 21:05Yee Ley Lau: I just love watching the different flavors and styles and that to even know that there are different flavors and styles.
- 21:12Yee Ley Lau: For start, I've been drawn to, like, I've done a little bit of journey with Suzy Tucker.
- 21:17Yee Ley Lau: I live, I love her poetic way.
- 21:21Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 21:21Yee Ley Lau: Um, with words and, and how, how she speaks to things and I, the, the take homes I, I got from her.
- 21:29Yee Ley Lau: Well, one of the take homes was about how, when.
- 21:32Yee Ley Lau: People are speaking, they're often speaking in metaphors.
- 21:36Yee Ley Lau: So that's really helped me hone into the essence of what people are saying and yes, honoring their story, but not getting lost in their story, but listening to the symbolisms and the metaphors that are going on so we don't get caught in the story.
- 21:51Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 21:51Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 21:52Yee Ley Lau: I really enjoying, I'm really enjoying attending, um, Barry Cross, um, workshops.
- 21:57Yee Ley Lau: I like, um, that he.
- 22:00Yee Ley Lau: From a more educational teaching stance where he's presenting the topic and he does it, chunks it up by topic and that's really good.
- 22:07Yee Ley Lau: And then how that relates to the system.
- 22:10Yee Ley Lau: For me it has more of a, from my IT business analyst, um, brain, that it comes back to the systemic view.
- 22:18Yee Ley Lau: It looks quite co, it seems quite cold, but is if you look at it as systems and the flow, I can.
- 22:24Yee Ley Lau: Relate to that.
- 22:24Yee Ley Lau: And so the information, yeah.
- 22:26Yee Ley Lau: Gosh, who else I'm really enjoying me, Megan Kelly's approach.
- 22:30Yee Ley Lau: She's very gentle and I'm just fascinated'cause she also does, um, constellations with astrology and I'm just like, wow.
- 22:36Yee Ley Lau: Like, of course, it's again, relationships.
- 22:38Yee Ley Lau: It's all about relationships and how they impact the self.
- 22:42Yee Ley Lau: So there's kind
- 22:42Tracy Cartwright: of, I haven't, I haven't, I haven't witnessed that yet, but I am, I'm going to, and, uh, Megan's on my list of people that I'd love to, to interview as well.
- 22:51Tracy Cartwright: So.
- 22:52Tracy Cartwright: And
- 22:52Yee Ley Lau: I, I, I love, enjoy how she presents.
- 22:54Yee Ley Lau: Very calm, very safe.
- 22:55Yee Ley Lau: And I guess she also works with the somatic as well, and the nervous system stuff.
- 23:01Yee Ley Lau: And no, I, I just really find it, um, fascinating how people can apply seemingly abstract things, but make it relatable to the everyday life.
- 23:13Yee Ley Lau: I think that's the important thing.
- 23:14Tracy Cartwright: Great reminder about how all things are interconnected.
- 23:17Yee Ley Lau: Yes.
- 23:18Yee Ley Lau: So.
- 23:20Yee Ley Lau: I quite love dabbling into that quote unquote abstract, but again, that reminder of what's the symbolism and what's the, for me, what's the archetype?
- 23:31Yee Ley Lau: Here.
- 23:32Yee Ley Lau: You know, for example, you know, if an alien ate my homework, it's still, there's a still an archetype of a dominant figure and a, a, a subservient figure or something like that.
- 23:43Yee Ley Lau: And it's like, okay, what, what's playing out here?
- 23:45Yee Ley Lau: I'm just reading a silly example.
- 23:47Yee Ley Lau: But that's like what language is suitable for the seeker?
- 23:51Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 23:52Yee Ley Lau: And then what works for the seeker?
- 23:53Yee Ley Lau: And it's like, okay.
- 23:55Yee Ley Lau: It's interesting.
- 23:55Yee Ley Lau: I, I love.
- 23:56Yee Ley Lau: Just getting down to the essence of what people are saying.
- 24:01Yee Ley Lau: What are they really saying?
- 24:03Tracy Cartwright: The hidden language?
- 24:04Yee Ley Lau: Yes.
- 24:05Tracy Cartwright: So with your IT background and your business analysis background, uh, you are now doing some work in constellations and business
- 24:15Yee Ley Lau: A
- 24:15Tracy Cartwright: little
- 24:16Yee Ley Lau: bit.
- 24:16Yee Ley Lau: I've kind of, because I have come from that corporate background, I guess people, um, associate there.
- 24:22Yee Ley Lau: That sounds weird saying that word.
- 24:23Yee Ley Lau: Corporate background, I think people relaxed a bit more, um, to revisit my life.
- 24:30Yee Ley Lau: Then, if that makes any sense to those people.
- 24:32Yee Ley Lau: 'cause that, and so yeah, I've been, I've been revisiting and even for myself, like business consultations that how's my business doing?
- 24:38Yee Ley Lau: And then, um, there's a lot of solo printers out there, small businesses.
- 24:43Yee Ley Lau: I wrote definitely feeling the heat and pressure in this, in this climate.
- 24:48Yee Ley Lau: So just exploring that a little bit and offering that out in the community.
- 24:51Yee Ley Lau: Um, and uh, yeah, it's been interesting.
- 24:54Yee Ley Lau: And again, it's all, all relationships, all all the business analysis stuff I did back in the day I was looking at.
- 25:00Yee Ley Lau: Processes and people are behind those processes and how they talk to each other or don't talk to each other.
- 25:06Yee Ley Lau: What's controlling the flow of communication, the data and the IT system.
- 25:12Yee Ley Lau: So they're all that, I guess I call it fractal view.
- 25:16Yee Ley Lau: 'cause the outer is in kind of also, um, versions of a smaller community.
- 25:24Yee Ley Lau: And then obviously internal, you know, our internal working.
- 25:27Yee Ley Lau: So having that view.
- 25:29Yee Ley Lau: From the business analyst to constellations and then applying it with that lens is quite fun.
- 25:35Yee Ley Lau: I like, yeah, I just love the application of this work.
- 25:38Yee Ley Lau: There's many things.
- 25:39Tracy Cartwright: Yeah, fantastic.
- 25:41Yee Ley Lau: Yeah, so you can have like, you know, the business, the, the person's vision, or if their language is sole vision or sole purpose.
- 25:48Yee Ley Lau: You put sole purpose, the business, the business owner, the offerings and target audience for example.
- 25:56Yee Ley Lau: And you can see the dynamics of that.
- 25:58Yee Ley Lau: Um, and one recently that she wanted to review her business, she felt like she was spinning too many plates.
- 26:04Yee Ley Lau: And then the other thing was money.
- 26:06Yee Ley Lau: So it's like, okay, let's break this down.
- 26:09Yee Ley Lau: What's your relationship with money like?
- 26:11Yee Ley Lau: And so if the person's willing and able to, 'cause you can keep it at business level.
- 26:15Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 26:15Yee Ley Lau: But for me.
- 26:16Yee Ley Lau: You are your business.
- 26:18Yee Ley Lau: So whatever we've inherited from our family system, um, if you know Uncle Joe Flo is not, you know, lost their business back in the day, does that have some impact on our current choices and the way we handle and relate with business and money?
- 26:36Yee Ley Lau: So for those that are new to it, I guess it's like, you know, we can take them so far, like, oh yeah, they can see their relationship with money and in this case, this lady was willing to.
- 26:46Yee Ley Lau: And able to go, I want to go a bit further.
- 26:48Yee Ley Lau: Well, what's blocking?
- 26:49Yee Ley Lau: What is this block?
- 26:50Yee Ley Lau: And for her, the person came into mind and we didn't need to go deeper.
- 26:55Yee Ley Lau: It was, oh, I know who that is.
- 26:58Yee Ley Lau: Fantastic.
- 26:59Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 26:59Tracy Cartwright: 'cause you can look, uh, I, I've seen situations where people have been entangled with their grandparents or great grandparents who, who lost the farm and the depression, you know, and then that sense of struggle at end.
- 27:13Tracy Cartwright: Grief is tied up around money and belonging and, you know, and, and a sense of failure.
- 27:19Tracy Cartwright: So, and unconsciously, you know, the descendants carrying that and being entangled with, with those things too.
- 27:26Tracy Cartwright: So, yeah, it comes in all forms, doesn't it?
- 27:29Tracy Cartwright: Mm-hmm.
- 27:30Tracy Cartwright: And like you say, we are our business and often businesses, even some those big ones are, can be started as uh, family businesses and then they grow into being big corporate entities.
- 27:42Tracy Cartwright: Absolutely.
- 27:44Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 27:44Yee Ley Lau: Entities, corporate entities, and yeah.
- 27:46Yee Ley Lau: You may have like, um, directors that have had their vision.
- 27:49Yee Ley Lau: They come with their vision, remodel the business.
- 27:52Yee Ley Lau: And then is there that buy-in, is there, um, do people have a, it's the same principles where you, you know, do people feel they belong?
- 28:00Yee Ley Lau: Is there a position for them?
- 28:02Yee Ley Lau: Are people doing more than one role?
- 28:04Yee Ley Lau: Some people feeling like they're doing two jobs, and then when the director leaves and the new one comes in, does that director have the same vision or do they want to take it somewhere else?
- 28:13Yee Ley Lau: So there's quite a lot of change in that.
- 28:16Yee Ley Lau: And with the people in it, like, do they still feel like.
- 28:19Yee Ley Lau: They belong to that tribe or they're still honoring the previous director.
- 28:23Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 28:24Tracy Cartwright: And where do you see yourself going with this?
- 28:26Tracy Cartwright: Is this something that you are looking to pursue further or?
- 28:30Yee Ley Lau: I'm open.
- 28:31Yee Ley Lau: I'm open to be guided by the field.
- 28:33Yee Ley Lau: I always ask who and where can I be a contribution next?
- 28:37Yee Ley Lau: I mean, the people that tend to see me tend to be practitioners or therapists themselves at the moment.
- 28:44Yee Ley Lau: I'm open.
- 28:45Yee Ley Lau: Mm-hmm.
- 28:46Yee Ley Lau: Mainly people, it's people come forward, um, other ones that are feeling stuck and they want change.
- 28:51Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 28:51Yee Ley Lau: So whether that's business or individuals or organizations, it's whoever's willing and able and ready to have a look in this way.
- 29:01Yee Ley Lau: Yeah.
- 29:03Tracy Cartwright: Yeah, it's such a good tool.
- 29:05Tracy Cartwright: There are so many avenues that you can implement constellations in.
- 29:08Tracy Cartwright: Ah, let me just check in.
- 29:11Tracy Cartwright: What else do I need?
- 29:12Tracy Cartwright: Does the field want me to ask today?
- 29:15Tracy Cartwright: Is there another way that you use constellations?
- 29:17Tracy Cartwright: So you use sound, you do that and you working with the business, and then only you do traditional constellations as well.
- 29:25Tracy Cartwright: Kind of if you, if you recall it, that.
- 29:28Tracy Cartwright: Is there another way that you incorporate it?
- 29:31Tracy Cartwright: Sound voice?
- 29:31Tracy Cartwright: Maybe.
- 29:32Tracy Cartwright: Maybe not.
- 29:32Tracy Cartwright: Maybe it's coming.
- 29:33Tracy Cartwright: 'cause I can feel like this.
- 29:34Tracy Cartwright: It's like there's something else.
- 29:36Yee Ley Lau: Garden Omes.
- 29:37Yee Ley Lau: No, I dunno.
- 29:38Yee Ley Lau: Know knows.
- 29:39Tracy Cartwright: Garden Omes.
- 29:40Tracy Cartwright: They could be quite handy to talk to Garden.
- 29:43Tracy Cartwright: No.
- 29:43Tracy Cartwright: When you're feeling into the field,
- 29:45Yee Ley Lau: I get well to, for me, I guess li Well, life is a constellation.
- 29:49Yee Ley Lau: It goes, it goes back to relationships.
- 29:51Yee Ley Lau: All are this.
- 29:53Yee Ley Lau: Plane of living is relational.
- 29:55Yee Ley Lau: Mm-hmm.
- 29:55Yee Ley Lau: So for me, like whether we have that objectified as in things represented, I know some people do internal constellations where it's in the mind's eye and it's it, that's it.
- 30:06Yee Ley Lau: We're shifting our internal image of what we think is or was into something else.
- 30:11Yee Ley Lau: So yeah, relationships to how we feel about our emotions, our choices.
- 30:17Yee Ley Lau: And I think the creative, I think what I love about this is the creative ways you can have that.
- 30:22Yee Ley Lau: Be seen, felt heard in some way.
- 30:25Yee Ley Lau: So whether that's people felt, felt pieces on the floor and we walk around life, if we're a, and this is something I've learned recent, well not, uh, reminded of recently, is strengthening the observer part of ourselves in life.
- 30:39Yee Ley Lau: So we can still have our body suit interact with another person because I like hello, but also have the observer part going Well.
- 30:48Yee Ley Lau: This is interesting dynamic.
- 30:50Yee Ley Lau: Mm. I'm now finding myself in this pattern.
- 30:53Yee Ley Lau: Wow.
- 30:54Yee Ley Lau: Geez.
- 30:54Yee Ley Lau: That's just like my mom and me, and I'm now have this person in my life.
- 31:00Yee Ley Lau: Then I'm now replicating that.
- 31:02Yee Ley Lau: And then you kind of, the observer's going, so what are you gonna do this time?
- 31:06Yee Ley Lau: Are you, you didn't play multiple things going if you can.
- 31:09Yee Ley Lau: I think that's the practice to go observer and life to go, wow, I just, I just repeated that, but this time I observed it.
- 31:19Yee Ley Lau: Mm-hmm.
- 31:19Yee Ley Lau: Next time it's like, I think I'm gonna say something different or I now I have more ease with this person.
- 31:25Yee Ley Lau: That's not gonna trigger me as much.
- 31:27Yee Ley Lau: Or now I'm gonna say something to go, here's my bound.
- 31:31Yee Ley Lau: You know, I don't accept that behavior in my life.
- 31:34Yee Ley Lau: There's just growth in so many different ways.
- 31:37Yee Ley Lau: I think.
- 31:37Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 31:38Tracy Cartwright: I is, is that, yeah.
- 31:40Tracy Cartwright: I did a bit of work around that with, um, through Eckhart Toley, through his, um, work and it was quite transformative to step into that observer space and being aware of patterns that I was repeating and, um, yeah.
- 31:57Tracy Cartwright: Great reminder.
- 31:57Tracy Cartwright: Thank you.
- 31:59Tracy Cartwright: Okay.
- 32:00Tracy Cartwright: Is there anything that you want to share that I haven't, um, delved into or that is sitting there for you?
- 32:07Tracy Cartwright: Well, before start, let's see, how can people get in touch with you?
- 32:10Tracy Cartwright: I'm gonna put your link in the comments, but if someone was listening to this and they wanted to.
- 32:16Yee Ley Lau: Bacon connects with me through Facebook.
- 32:19Yee Ley Lau: Business is called Light Your Life or LAU is the handle name.
- 32:23Yee Ley Lau: Instagram.
- 32:24Yee Ley Lau: My website are the main touchpoint and I do online sessions as well as in-person sessions.
- 32:32Yee Ley Lau: Hope to be traveling.
- 32:33Yee Ley Lau: Background New Zealand again.
- 32:35Yee Ley Lau: And
- 32:36Tracy Cartwright: yeah, let me know.
- 32:38Tracy Cartwright: Host you here.
- 32:38Tracy Cartwright: Absolutely.
- 32:39Tracy Cartwright: Magic.
- 32:40Tracy Cartwright: Um,
- 32:40Yee Ley Lau: Jesse, in response to your previous question, I think this is where I'm at at the moment, is learning how to really slow down and listen and like meditation's really helped me and that craft of the listening in the field.
- 32:57Yee Ley Lau: Yeah, that's what I, I'm learning how the art of the, the beauty and the power of slowing.
- 33:04Yee Ley Lau: Down and being with the thing that's show wanting to emerge.
- 33:09Yee Ley Lau: Mm. Because the thing I, I feels like for me, I've, I've realized for myself and noticed in others, it's like, oh yeah, I got this.
- 33:16Yee Ley Lau: And I'm like, sit there longer.
- 33:18Yee Ley Lau: And they go, oh.
- 33:18Yee Ley Lau: 'cause there'll be thoughts that come through and then sensations in the body.
- 33:24Yee Ley Lau: There's the wisdom that comes through beyond the thoughts.
- 33:29Tracy Cartwright: Yeah.
- 33:30Yee Ley Lau: So the art of slowing down,
- 33:32Tracy Cartwright: which is, is not something that we tend to do a lot of in this modern day and age is it?
- 33:39Tracy Cartwright: But yeah.
- 33:39Tracy Cartwright: Great reminder.
- 33:40Tracy Cartwright: Great reminder.
- 33:42Tracy Cartwright: And do you have any events
- 33:44Yee Ley Lau: coming up?
- 33:45Yee Ley Lau: I will have, I'm gonna be start to put the monthly.
- 33:49Yee Ley Lau: Constellation sessions in here locally, and I'll look to do some more online ones.
- 33:55Yee Ley Lau: Again, it feels like spring energy is springing, so I hope to get them out soon.
- 34:00Yee Ley Lau: And there'll be voice related ones as well, so those that are curious about playing with their voice and constellations, we, yeah, I love, I love doing those.
- 34:12Tracy Cartwright: Great.
- 34:13Tracy Cartwright: Awesome.
- 34:14Tracy Cartwright: Well, thank you so much for.
- 34:16Tracy Cartwright: Spending some time with me.
- 34:18Tracy Cartwright: I love hanging out with you, so it's awesome to have you here and, uh, and great sharing.
- 34:24Tracy Cartwright: And yeah.
