world of football to learn all about a famous quarterback,
• 0:46
Aaron Rodgers. If you've ever watched a
• 0:48
football game on TV, you might have seen Aaron Rodgers throwing
• 0:52
fast, accurate passes, making smart plays, and leading his
• 0:56
team on the field. But who is Aaron Rodgers and
• 1:00
what makes him such an interesting athlete?
• 1:02
Let's get started and find out. First, let's talk about what a
• 1:06
quarterback is. In American football, the
• 1:09
quarterback is one of the most important players on the team.
• 1:13
The quarterback is the person who starts almost every play by
• 1:16
getting the ball from the center and either handing it off,
• 1:19
running with it, or throwing it to another player.
• 1:22
It takes a lot of skill, quick thinking, and strong leadership
• 1:25
to be a great quarterback. Aaron Rodgers is known for all
• 1:29
of these qualities. Aaron Rodgers was born on
• 1:32
December 2nd, 1983 in Chico, CA. As a kid, Aaron loved sports.
• 1:40
He played football, baseball, and basketball.
• 1:43
He even played flag football before he started playing tackle
• 1:47
football. Aaron's family supported him and
• 1:50
he practiced a lot. He learned early on that working
• 1:53
hard and practicing every day can help you get better at
• 1:57
anything. Did you know Aaron Rodgers was
• 1:59
not always the biggest or strongest kid on his teams when
• 2:03
he was in high school? Some coaches thought he was too
• 2:06
small to play quarterback at a high level, but Aaron didn't
• 2:10
give up. He kept practicing, getting
• 2:13
stronger and learning more about football.
• 2:15
After high school, he went to Butte Community College, which
• 2:18
is a 2 year College in California.
• 2:21
He played so well there that he was noticed by the University of
• 2:24
California, Berkeley. He joined their team, the
• 2:27
California Golden Bears, and became one of their top players.
• 2:31
Here's a quick trivia question. Aaron Rodgers wore a special
• 2:35
number when he played college football.
• 2:37
Can you guess what number it was?
• 2:42
The answer is #8 he wore #8 at the University of California,
• 2:48
Berkeley before wearing number 12 in the NFL.
• 2:51
Now let's talk about how Aaron Rodgers joined the National
• 2:54
Football League, or NFL. The NFL is the top professional
• 2:59
Football League in the United States.
• 3:01
Every year, teams pick new players from College in a big
• 3:04
event called the NFL Draft. In 2005, Aaron Rodgers joined
• 3:09
the draft. Many people thought he would be
• 3:12
picked very early, but he had to wait much longer than expected.
• 3:16
Finally, the Green Bay Packers chose him as the 24th pick.
• 3:21
The Green Bay Packers are a team from Wisconsin, and their fans
• 3:24
are known for wearing big foam hats shaped like cheese.
• 3:29
When Aaron joined the Packers, they already had a famous
• 3:32
quarterback named Brett Favre, So Aaron didn't get to start
• 3:36
right away. He waited, watched, and learned
• 3:39
from Brett Farr for three years. This patience paid off.
• 3:44
When Aaron finally got his chance to be the starting
• 3:46
quarterback in 2008, he was ready.
• 3:50
Aaron Rodgers quickly became known for his strong arm, quick
• 3:53
decisions and calm attitude under pressure.
• 3:57
He could throw the football very far and very accurately.
• 4:01
He also became famous for his Hail Mary passes.
• 4:04
That's when a quarterback throws a long pass into the end zone
• 4:08
hoping a teammate catches it for a touchdown.
• 4:11
Rodgers completed several of these exciting plays during his
• 4:14
career. In fact, he holds the NFL record
• 4:17
with four completed Hail Mary throws, the most in NFL history.
• 4:22
Here's a yes or no question for you.
• 4:24
Do you think Aaron Rodgers has ever played another position in
• 4:27
football besides quarterback? The answer is no Aaron Rodgers
• 4:34
has always played quarterback, from his early football days all
• 4:38
the way to the NFL. One of Aaron's biggest
• 4:41
achievements came in 2011. He led the Green Bay Packers to
• 4:45
win the Super Bowl, which is the championship game of the NFL.
• 4:49
The Super Bowl is watched by millions of people all over the
• 4:52
world. In that game, Aaron threw for
• 4:55
over 300 yards and three touchdowns, helping his team
• 4:59
win. He was named the Super Bowl Most
• 5:01
Valuable Player or MVP. That means he was the best
• 5:05
player in the biggest game of the year.
• 5:07
Did you know Aaron Rodgers is one of the most accurate passers
• 5:11
in NFL history? He holds records for having a
• 5:14
  very low number of interceptions.
• 5:16
An interception is when the other team catches a pass that
• 5:20
was meant for Aaron's teammate. Keeping interceptions low is
• 5:24
really important because it helps the team keep the ball and
• 5:28
score more points. Another fun fact is that Aaron
• 5:31
Rodgers is well known for his touchdown celebration.
• 5:35
When he scores or helps his team score, he sometimes does a move
• 5:39
called the championship belt. He pretends to put on a big,
• 5:43
heavy belt like a sports champion.
• 5:45
This celebration became so popular that even fans in the
• 5:49
crowd do it when the Packers score a touchdown.
• 5:51
  Let's try another trivia question.

• 6:07

• 6:13
and 2021. Aaron is not just great at
• 6:17
throwing the football, he's also very good at running when he
• 6:20
needs to. Sometimes, if he can't find a
• 6:23
teammate to throw to, he'll run forward and try to gain yards
• 6:26
himself. This makes it hard for defenses
• 6:29
to stop him because they have to be ready for both his passing
• 6:32
and running. Here's a yes or no question for
• 6:35
you. Has Aaron Rodgers ever played
• 6:37
for a team other than the Green Bay Packers in the NFL?
