Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
• 0:08
weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
• 0:11
ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Thursday,
• 0:16
August 7th, 2025. Let's get you caught up. Yesterday,
• 0:20
shortly after 3 p .m., there was a fatal vehicle
• 0:23
versus pedestrian accident near Del Paso and
• 0:26
El Centro. The pedestrian was pronounced dead
• 0:29
at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was taken
• 0:32
to the hospital. And this is still an ongoing
• 0:35
investigation to determine exactly what happened
• 0:37
there. In a press release issued by Sacramento
• 0:41
County, it informed that Sacramento County's
• 0:45
annual fentanyl awareness summit is to return
• 0:48
September 4th with hopeful news. Fentanyl -related
• 0:52
  deaths dropped 32 % from 2023 to 2024. marking
• 0:57
a second year of decline. Hosted by the county's
• 1:01
Department of Health Services and key partners,
• 1:06
the summit will focus on prevention, treatment,
• 1:11
harm reduction, and continued community action.
• 1:15
Residents are encouraged to attend, wear purple
• 1:18
for upcoming awareness days, and support initiatives
• 1:22
like the Ripple Effect documentary, and the Gone
• 1:26
Too Soon Memorial Project. As National Farmers
• 1:31
Market Week is celebrated, the California Department
• 1:34
of Food and Agriculture reminds shoppers that
• 1:38
certified means more than just fresh produce.
• 1:42
It means strict standards only verified growers
• 1:45
or their representatives can sell at certified
• 1:48
farmers market. Ensuring transparency and supporting
• 1:52
small scale and emerging farmers. Look for the
• 1:56
We Grow What We Sell banner and enjoy locally
• 2:01
grown food straight from the source. In today's
• 2:05
weather, we're looking at a high of about 95
• 2:07
degrees. In traffic, the majors were looking
• 2:11
good at last check. The CHP was warning of a
• 2:16
couple of hazards. One is at Westbound 50 at
• 2:24
Jesperson Boulevard, the Westbound off -ramp.
• 2:27
It just says a shift there. About an hour ago
• 2:31
also, there was a car fire at Northbound I -5
• 2:34
At Twin City. So check your route. Make sure
• 2:38
you're leaving yourself plenty of time to get
• 2:40
where you need to go. Other than that, the major
• 2:43
roadways, again, are on the green. Today's events,
• 2:47
there will be a writing demystified workshop
• 2:50
at A Seat at the Table Books at 5 .30 p .m. That
• 2:55
is at 9357 Laguna Springs Drive. The Stab Comedy
• 3:00
Workshop will be having a stand -up open mic
• 3:05
  night at 8 p .m. That's going to be at 1710 Broadway.
• 3:11
  That's all for today's Sacramento Brief. You'll
• 3:14
find the links to today's events in the show
• 3:16
notes. I'm Carol. Thank you for trusting me with
• 3:19
your morning. Be safe, stay sharp, and I'll see
• 3:23
  you tomorrow.
