- 0:02Speaker 1: Ft presented by Fox One.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Happy Halloween, everyone, Todd Father, would you like to describe
- 0:07Speaker 2: today's contest winner.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Today's context winner is mister Eric Kratz with that bald
- 0:13Speaker 3: headed pointy nos.
- 0:15Speaker 4: Congratulations, beauty.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Come on now you get to see this six for
- 0:20Speaker 1: two hours. Let's go.
- 0:23Speaker 2: This is the best it's ever going to get. Okay, people,
- 0:26Speaker 2: it's Friday, Happy Halloween. It's Game six of the World Series.
- 0:30Speaker 2: We start the show with not one, not two, not three,
- 0:33Speaker 2: but four in our cast of characters. Scotty Brown here
- 0:37Speaker 2: kind of like an alien vibe. It's not my best work.
- 0:40Speaker 1: God Father. You want to say hello with what you've got.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Hello, there, it's me the Batman.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Right now, you toss it to the toss it to
- 0:53Speaker 2: your buddy who won contest of the day.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Crats, you go.
- 0:58Speaker 5: Crazy. Now I am grow. I am growing.
- 1:01Speaker 6: My friend Kevin Polar, he sometimes is Superman, sometimes he
- 1:05Speaker 6: dresses a Superman. You don't always have to have the
- 1:07Speaker 6: Superman because Superman wears his clothes underneath, so he won't
- 1:10Speaker 6: be taking it off right now.
- 1:11Speaker 5: So, Kevin Polar, it's good. I love that.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Thanks very good.
- 1:18Speaker 2: One more thing before we start talking World series with
- 1:21Speaker 2: mister Polar Tonight Game six postgame show, Krats will be
- 1:29Speaker 2: with me and can I say yeah, I think I
- 1:34Speaker 2: can say it now, Okay, buck show, Walter, buckle up, baby,
- 1:40Speaker 2: He'll be on the postgame show with us three man
- 1:43Speaker 2: booth bringing it okay after game six.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Either way, that's what we're gonna do for the for
- 1:48Speaker 5: the postgame and you gotta join us because it's game six.
- 1:54Speaker 5: Seven games. I had to get six to seven in
- 1:56Speaker 5: there at some point for the kids. But either way,
- 2:00Speaker 5: Game six is going to be ridiculous. Ya, I'm amoto
- 2:04Speaker 5: coming off of two straight complete games. He might throw
- 2:07Speaker 5: one hundred and thirty eight pitches like he did in
- 2:09Speaker 5: Game six of the Japan series.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Yeah, he definitely will.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Man, if this guy goes another nine innings, it's gonna
- 2:18Speaker 3: be absolutely incredible.
- 2:20Speaker 4: With or without this mask on, it's gonna be mussy TV.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I know Kevin Pilar is ready to go, ready to rock,
- 2:27Speaker 3: So tonight it's gonna be a great night. It's Halloween
- 2:30Speaker 3: and everybody is fired up for this Game six coming
- 2:34Speaker 3: up right now?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go. All right, I'm back. I gotta fix
- 2:37Speaker 2: an internet thing while KP's talking. But we're here okay,
- 2:41Speaker 2: so let's charge the mound presented bending. Let's charge it
- 2:45Speaker 2: all right, KP, let's dive into the World Series. And
- 2:50Speaker 2: before we do that, just in case there is a
- 2:53Speaker 2: Game seven. If there is a Game seven, Kevin Polar
- 2:57Speaker 2: will be at a lid store near the ball. We
- 3:00Speaker 2: will give you more information at the end of this segment.
- 3:03Speaker 2: But here's a little sneak peak. One o'clock Eastern time,
- 3:06Speaker 2: three ninety nine Queen Street West. It's a brand new
- 3:09Speaker 2: lid store one o'clock Eastern time. You can chat and
- 3:13Speaker 2: hang out with KP. Be there for about an hour.
- 3:17Speaker 2: So if there's a Game seven, if you're in Toronto,
- 3:21Speaker 2: KP will be there and we'll remind you at the
- 3:23Speaker 2: end of the segment as well. But KP, how do
- 3:28Speaker 2: the Blue Jays prevent that from happening?
- 3:31Speaker 7: Well, they got to go through the best picture in
- 3:34Speaker 7: the postseason. But that's kind of been theirm pretty much
- 3:37Speaker 7: all season. If you go back and look at the
- 3:39Speaker 7: starting pitchers they've beaten, but just think about the pictures
- 3:42Speaker 7: they've beaten in the postseason. You know, you know, obviously
- 3:45Speaker 7: you're gonna face great pitching in the playoffs, but the
- 3:47Speaker 7: teams that they face the Yankees, the Mariners. They didn't
- 3:50Speaker 7: have scrubs, you know, running out there Games one and two.
- 3:53Speaker 7: They've beaten Blake Snell twice already, they got to they
- 3:56Speaker 7: got to Tyler Glass. Now you know, ultimately he wasn't
- 3:59Speaker 7: charged with the l in that game because it went forever.
- 4:01Speaker 7: It actually was two games worth. But you know, if
- 4:05Speaker 7: they want to be the best, they got an opportunity
- 4:07Speaker 7: to beat the best picture in the world tonight, and
- 4:08Speaker 7: that's what they're gonna have to do if people don't
- 4:11Speaker 7: want to see me at the lid store tomorrow. So
- 4:14Speaker 7: I'm hoping to wrap it up here in game six
- 4:17Speaker 7: and get home and see my family. But if the
- 4:19Speaker 7: Jay's aren't able to do it today, I'll gladly be
- 4:22Speaker 7: at the store tomorrow.
- 4:24Speaker 5: Yeah, that lid store is not going to have any
- 4:26Speaker 5: more hats left. But yes, I understand they beat Blake Snell.
- 4:33Speaker 5: They didn't really beat him that great. Like I'm not
- 4:36Speaker 5: going with the they were unluck they were lucky. I'm
- 4:39Speaker 5: saying it wasn't like they dominated Blake Snell. I just
- 4:42Speaker 5: don't see the path to get to Yamamoto. Do you
- 4:46Speaker 5: feel like there is a there is a change that
- 4:50Speaker 5: can be made by the lineup to be able to
- 4:52Speaker 5: do it, to be able to beat Yamamoto. Who I
- 4:55Speaker 5: counted it. I got this from a friend. Fifteen three
- 5:00Speaker 5: ball pitches that he's thrown in the entire postseason. Fifteen
- 5:05Speaker 5: So he's okay with you being aggressive because he's not
- 5:08Speaker 5: really giving you anything. So how do the Jays or
- 5:11Speaker 5: is it just something where hey, you know what, somebody
- 5:14Speaker 5: pops one, Gosman goes nine.
- 5:16Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I don't even think Gosman needs to
- 5:18Speaker 7: go nine. I mean, I think the back end of
- 5:19Speaker 7: their bullpen's been really good, especially late in the postseason.
- 5:22Speaker 7: But you know, if you go back to Game two,
- 5:26Speaker 7: when he threw the complete game, it was one to
- 5:29Speaker 7: one going to the seventh inning, and Gosman made two mistakes.
- 5:32Speaker 7: He wasn't really even a bad pitch to Will Smith.
- 5:36Speaker 7: He threw a fast wallpin in. He turned them one.
- 5:38Speaker 7: Maxi got one out over the plate, hit one into
- 5:40Speaker 7: the bullpen. But he went toe to toe with him.
- 5:43Speaker 7: He wasn't quite as dominant as Yamamoto was. But that's
- 5:48Speaker 7: been the big thing with the starting pitching for the
- 5:50Speaker 7: Blue Jays. Can you just keep him in the game.
- 5:52Speaker 7: If Gosman could keep him in the game within striking distance,
- 5:55Speaker 7: you know they got a chance. But an article came
- 5:57Speaker 7: out today about Yamamoto and what makes him even more
- 6:00Speaker 7: difficult than the arsenal pitches he has. He never faces
- 6:04Speaker 7: you the same way the same time. His sequence of
- 6:06Speaker 7: pitching is always different. And I you know, I'm gonna
- 6:09Speaker 7: have an opportunity to go on our pregame show today
- 6:11Speaker 7: and talk about what kind of my approach is going
- 6:13Speaker 7: to be, and I'm I'm kind of sitting here thinking
- 6:15Speaker 7: about what the hell would I do with the guy
- 6:17Speaker 7: who's got six seven pitches. He constantly changes the way
- 6:21Speaker 7: he pitches you up, and I think you just got it.
- 6:23Speaker 7: Like you said, I think you got to sit there
- 6:25Speaker 7: and go. You know, more than likely he's gonna get
- 6:27Speaker 7: me out once or twice and maybe three times. But
- 6:29Speaker 7: can I get him one time? And that's kind of
- 6:31Speaker 7: how this series has felt. Like if one guy or
- 6:34Speaker 7: two guys can put a good swing on a pitch,
- 6:36Speaker 7: you know, that could be the difference. The Dodgers are
- 6:37Speaker 7: not swinging the bat really well right now. I don't
- 6:40Speaker 7: think we're accustomed to seeing a Dodger lineup really struggle
- 6:43Speaker 7: the way that it's been struggling. You know, if you're
- 6:45Speaker 7: the Blue Jays, I think that's what you got to
- 6:47Speaker 7: do is I don't think you got to really try
- 6:49Speaker 7: to overcomplicate it, try to figure out how he's going
- 6:52Speaker 7: to pitch you, because he's so good at changing that up.
- 6:54Speaker 7: I think you stay with what you want to do
- 6:56Speaker 7: as a hitter. You might not get in the first
- 6:58Speaker 7: at bat, you might not get in the second, you
- 7:00Speaker 7: might not even get in the third.
- 7:01Speaker 8: But if you if you're ready.
- 7:02Speaker 7: For your pitch, it feels like it's going to be
- 7:04Speaker 7: a one swing of the bat type of game. Uh
- 7:07Speaker 7: for the Blue Jays in order to get to Yamamoto.
- 7:10Speaker 2: This episode of FT is brought to you by Fuel.

- 8:11Speaker 3: Now now reverse side of this. How do you get?
- 8:14Speaker 3: How do if you're Doc Roberts? I mean, how do
- 8:16Speaker 3: you find a way to win a ballgame? I mean,
- 8:19Speaker 3: I feel like it's one of those games today where
- 8:22Speaker 3: it's not going to be pretty, but you got to
- 8:24Speaker 3: find a way to dig deep and win. Is there
- 8:26Speaker 3: something you can do against Gosman that you see that
- 8:29Speaker 3: they can exploit?
- 8:30Speaker 4: I don't see much. Yeah.
- 8:32Speaker 7: I mean if you watch a game pretty intently, you know,
- 8:36Speaker 7: in Game two it did seem like the Dodgers' hitters
- 8:40Speaker 7: were a little bit in between. It kind of felt
- 8:42Speaker 7: like they went into a kind of with a game
- 8:45Speaker 7: plan of maybe trying not to chase the splitter, and
- 8:49Speaker 7: it seemed like they were late on a lot of fastballs.
- 8:52Speaker 4: You know.
- 8:52Speaker 7: Maybe that's the adjustment they make, is like, Okay, we're
- 8:55Speaker 7: striking out a ton.
- 8:56Speaker 4: You know.
- 8:57Speaker 7: Maybe they tried it with Tray Savage, like hey, don't
- 8:59Speaker 7: get caught in, you know, but the stuff was just
- 9:01Speaker 7: so good. Maybe they just changed their approach up and
- 9:04Speaker 7: they try to be super aggressive, be willing to swing
- 9:07Speaker 7: through a little bit more pitches, not being caught in between.
- 9:09Speaker 7: Because Gosman was throwing a ton of strikes. He was
- 9:12Speaker 7: throwing a ton of fastballs in the zone. You know,
- 9:14Speaker 7: they weren't all middle fastballs, but he was in the
- 9:16Speaker 7: zone a ton, and he was getting a ton of
- 9:19Speaker 7: foul balls, and then he was able to kind of
- 9:20Speaker 7: set up his two secondary pitches, you know, mostly the splitter,
- 9:24Speaker 7: to get a lot of swing and miss. But if
- 9:28Speaker 7: you're the Dodgers, you know, maybe you have to go
- 9:30Speaker 7: against what has gotten you here all year, and maybe
- 9:32Speaker 7: when you get to that middle bottom part of that
- 9:35Speaker 7: order that's usually so dynamic maybe you got to figure
- 9:38Speaker 7: out a way to play a little.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Bit more small ball.
- 9:40Speaker 7: You know, maybe look for some guys, you know, like
- 9:43Speaker 7: show Hey or Mookie and even Freddy if they're able
- 9:46Speaker 7: to get on, try to steal some bases. I know,
- 9:48Speaker 7: Kirk's a tough guy to steal against. Gosman's pretty good
- 9:51Speaker 7: at holding runners. But they just haven't shown the ability
- 9:54Speaker 7: that they're gonna just kind of, you know, string together
- 9:57Speaker 7: three or four or five good at bats, a walk,
- 9:59Speaker 7: you know, a couple hits. You know, that's really what
- 10:01Speaker 7: the Dodger or the Blue Jays had been able to do,
- 10:04Speaker 7: aside from having those you know, solo homers or maybe
- 10:09Speaker 7: two run homers. We always talk, you always hear Buck
- 10:12Speaker 7: Martinez talk about it on the broadcast, a Blue Jay
- 10:14Speaker 7: type of inning, and it usually starts with a walk
- 10:16Speaker 7: or you know, a misplay, and then you got first
- 10:19Speaker 7: and third, and then there's a sackfly. Then they're kind
- 10:21Speaker 7: of just able to manufacture runs and put up crooked
- 10:24Speaker 7: numbers on the scoreboard. Right now, for the Dodgers, it
- 10:26Speaker 7: kind of seems all or nothing, like they're relying on
- 10:29Speaker 7: a show a homer, a Freddie homer, a Will Smith
- 10:31Speaker 7: Homer A Max Munsey Homer. I don't know how they're
- 10:34Speaker 7: gonna be able to kind of manufacture runs against Osman,
- 10:36Speaker 7: who's you know, really good at eliminating base runners. But
- 10:39Speaker 7: they're gonna have to figure out a way to try
- 10:41Speaker 7: to kind of string multiple hits together. I don't see
- 10:46Speaker 7: it happening.
- 10:46Speaker 5: Though. We're not as lucky as you Canadians because we
- 10:50Speaker 5: don't get to hear Buck Martinez. We get to hear
- 10:53Speaker 5: all about Shoho Tani, and that's pretty much it that
- 10:56Speaker 5: we get to hear here in the States. But my
- 10:59Speaker 5: question to you is, you've been kind of around the
- 11:01Speaker 5: You've been around the clubhouse, around the dugout there handicapped
- 11:06Speaker 5: me a George Springer getting in this game type of moment.
- 11:09Speaker 5: Is it a start? And I also want your opinion,
- 11:14Speaker 5: based on what they've done the last two games, should
- 11:17Speaker 5: they push a sixty percent George Springer to be in
- 11:20Speaker 5: the lineup.
- 11:22Speaker 7: God, that's a great question because they've kept it really
- 11:25Speaker 7: under wraps around here. I mean, I think we also
- 11:28Speaker 7: we saw on TV, you know, obliques aren't one of
- 11:31Speaker 7: those things, and they haven't even kind of ruled it
- 11:33Speaker 7: as an oblique. They're calling it a side injury. They're
- 11:35Speaker 7: they're taking a book out of uh, you know, hockey,
- 11:38Speaker 7: which is very popular here in Canada, and they're just
- 11:40Speaker 7: labeling it a upper body injury. You know, there's not
- 11:44Speaker 7: a lot of details and there's a lot of hush
- 11:46Speaker 7: hush about it. And to be honest with you, I
- 11:48Speaker 7: was very surprised that they he was even on the
- 11:51Speaker 7: roster the next day. It felt like, especially after eighteen
- 11:54Speaker 7: in game, they had all the reason in the world
- 11:56Speaker 7: to replace him on the roster, maybe add another arm,
- 11:59Speaker 7: because they went through everyone in that eighteen in a game,
- 12:02Speaker 7: and then there was rumors about him being available, whether
- 12:05Speaker 7: it was to pinch run or potentially pinch hit. And
- 12:10Speaker 7: credit to the credit to the Blue Jays. The way
- 12:12Speaker 7: the last two games has gone, they haven't really had
- 12:15Speaker 7: to tip their hand if he is available or not available.
- 12:17Speaker 7: And now kind of the rumor around here is he
- 12:19Speaker 7: could be in the starting lineup today. But I find
- 12:22Speaker 7: it hard to believe. I've never really seen a player
- 12:26Speaker 7: call for the trainer and the manager to come out
- 12:28Speaker 7: of the dugout after taking a swing. Fortunately, in my
- 12:31Speaker 7: career I never had a side or an oblique injury,
- 12:33Speaker 7: so I don't really know what that feels like. But
- 12:35Speaker 7: I've never seen a player leave the game under his
- 12:38Speaker 7: own power, under his own guidance, with a side injury
- 12:42Speaker 7: and be able to bounce back in a day or two.
- 12:44Speaker 7: But maybe it was a cramp, maybe it was something.
- 12:46Speaker 7: Maybe there's a lot of gamesmanship going on here. But
- 12:49Speaker 7: you know, as I'm sitting here right now in Toronto
- 12:52Speaker 7: listening to you know, the local media here checking my
- 12:56Speaker 7: Twitter feed, they're definitely making it seem like there is
- 12:59Speaker 7: a possible that George Springer could be in the lineup
- 13:02Speaker 7: at some point. Is it the best decision? I mean,
- 13:05Speaker 7: only the Blue Jays and George know how he's feeling.
- 13:07Speaker 7: I mean, George Springer at the top of the lineup
- 13:11Speaker 7: at sixty, you know, could be a good option. I mean,
- 13:15Speaker 7: I think, you know, the blessing in the guys we've
- 13:19Speaker 7: all kind of talked about is when George went down,
- 13:21Speaker 7: it's given Bo the ability to stay in the game
- 13:24Speaker 7: the entirety of the game and DH and kind of
- 13:27Speaker 7: stay off that knee. And he's been unbelievable what he's
- 13:29Speaker 7: been able to do at sixty.
- 13:31Speaker 8: Could could the Blue.
- 13:32Speaker 7: Jays potentially have two guys rolling out there in the
- 13:35Speaker 7: biggest game in recent history for this franchise with guys,
- 13:40Speaker 7: you know, probably closer to fifty percent, could be interesting.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely. And on the flip side of it, you
- 13:47Speaker 3: think of the Dodgers too. Dave Roberts said he's going
- 13:50Speaker 3: to do anything it takes to win. I mean, that's simple.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Of course he's going to do that, And he did
- 13:54Speaker 3: not rule out Otani coming into pitch. Now if he
- 13:57Speaker 3: dh is deludes that DH spot. What are your thoughts
- 14:00Speaker 3: on that? Is there a possibility we might see him tonight?
- 14:05Speaker 7: First of all, I just love the you know, we
- 14:07Speaker 7: laugh at it, right, you know, the stating the obvious.
- 14:09Speaker 7: We'll do whatever it takes to win. Well, I would
- 14:11Speaker 7: hope so, because if not, you're going home.
- 14:16Speaker 4: No, I don't.
- 14:17Speaker 7: I don't see a scenario that Otani comes in and
- 14:19Speaker 7: pitches in this game unless it's to close it out.
- 14:24Speaker 7: You're not gonna take as bad out of the lineup there.
- 14:26Speaker 7: There's no one that you can replace him with. I
- 14:27Speaker 7: mean it has to you know, the stars would have
- 14:29Speaker 7: to align, you know, his spot in the order would
- 14:32Speaker 7: have to be had just come up. He would have
- 14:34Speaker 7: to have an opportunity to maybe get down to the bullpen.
- 14:37Speaker 7: You know, maybe they figured out a way underneath in
- 14:40Speaker 7: the visiting cages there they could have one of those
- 14:43Speaker 7: rollaway mounds.
- 14:44Speaker 5: I don't, I don't.
- 14:45Speaker 8: I don't see it happening today.
- 14:48Speaker 7: It seems like a more likely scenario maybe if they're
- 14:51Speaker 7: able to get to a game seven where maybe they
- 14:54Speaker 7: have the comfort in him coming in and throwing multiple
- 14:56Speaker 7: innings out of the bullpen and then really kind of
- 14:58Speaker 7: trying to figure out what to do from there. But
- 15:02Speaker 7: I mean, it's an amazing thing that we even can
- 15:05Speaker 7: have this conversation that there's a baseball player in this
- 15:07Speaker 7: world that is such a talented player on both sides
- 15:12Speaker 7: of the ball where it's a realistic possibility that he
- 15:15Speaker 7: could come in and not obviously not start today, but
- 15:18Speaker 7: come in out of the bullpen. But I mean, starting
- 15:21Speaker 7: is already so difficult for him to do. Obviously you
- 15:23Speaker 7: have the entire pregame to prep. But it's one of
- 15:27Speaker 7: those things why we probably haven't seen it yet is
- 15:29Speaker 7: it's just the timing of you know, what if he's
- 15:32Speaker 7: what if he's left at second base and he hasn't
- 15:33Speaker 7: a chance to warm up, What if he's the guy
- 15:35Speaker 7: on deck. You know, it just kind of a perfect
- 15:37Speaker 7: storm of events would have to take place in order
- 15:40Speaker 7: for them and probably show Hey to feel comfortable, you know,
- 15:44Speaker 7: having enough time to warm up.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Do we believe that show Hey can't win a goal
- 15:49Speaker 5: glove and right field? Like, let's say it comes in
- 15:51Speaker 5: in the ninth inning. Rokie's already pitched his three innings. Yell, mooto,
- 15:54Speaker 5: and it's a tie ball game. Show Hay comes in,
- 15:57Speaker 5: throws his inning. They don't have to rehim. I don't.
- 16:02Speaker 4: I don't.
- 16:02Speaker 5: I don't think. I don't.
- 16:04Speaker 7: He hasn't shown anyone any reason why he probably couldn't
- 16:08Speaker 7: go out there and be great at playing right field.
- 16:11Speaker 7: And I'm obviously not around the team. You know, show Hey,
- 16:14Speaker 7: from everything I've heard, doesn't seem like a guy who's
- 16:17Speaker 7: out taking VP all the time. And if he is
- 16:19Speaker 7: taking VP, he's not a guy who's out there you know,
- 16:22Speaker 7: shagg and fly balls when he's not hitting. But I
- 16:26Speaker 7: would put nothing past this guy for him to be
- 16:28Speaker 7: able to go out there and stand in right fielder
- 16:31Speaker 7: and not only stand out there, I think he'd be
- 16:32Speaker 7: a pretty good outfielder. He's a freak athlete. You saw
- 16:37Speaker 7: kind of what he kind of turned into as a
- 16:40Speaker 7: baseball player last year when he didn't have the responsibility
- 16:43Speaker 7: of having to pitch, he became this the first ever
- 16:46Speaker 7: fifty to fifty guy. He just said, you know what,
- 16:48Speaker 7: I don't have to pitch. I can, you know, absorb
- 16:50Speaker 7: a little more wear and tear on my body. Let
- 16:52Speaker 7: me just go out and steal sixty bases because I can.
- 16:56Speaker 7: So I'd put nothing past this guy.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Your boots on the ground have to ask this. We
- 17:02Speaker 5: don't have anybody else in Toronto. Is Toronto a home
- 17:06Speaker 5: field advantage for the for the Blue Jays?
- 17:09Speaker 8: Absolutely absolutely.
- 17:11Speaker 7: I think in terms of crowd noise, I think in
- 17:14Speaker 7: terms of buzz, I think in terms of, you know what,
- 17:17Speaker 7: as much as a baseball fan can kind of provide
- 17:20Speaker 7: for its home team, I think Toronto's right there at
- 17:22Speaker 7: the top of the list when the roof is closed.
- 17:24Speaker 7: I don't think there's a better place. But we've talked
- 17:27Speaker 7: about this on this show. I've talked about on every show.
- 17:29Speaker 7: I think baseball is a very reactionary sport. You know,
- 17:35Speaker 7: momentum is, momentum is real, and fan participation and energy
- 17:40Speaker 7: and loudness is real, and it's gonna be an electric
- 17:44Speaker 7: scene from probably the moment the gates open during batting practice,
- 17:49Speaker 7: through the Canadian anthem, through the American anthem, up until
- 17:52Speaker 7: first pitch, and it will remain that way until they
- 17:56Speaker 7: have a reason not to. You know, it's probably I mean,
- 18:01Speaker 7: this is like staying the obvious of you know, all
- 18:03Speaker 7: hands on deck an elimination game. But it is very
- 18:06Speaker 7: important that the others figure out a way to kind
- 18:10Speaker 7: of figure out a way to silence that crowd early,
- 18:12Speaker 7: whether it's you know, manufacturing a run in the first inning,
- 18:16Speaker 7: you know, solo homer, because if not, that momentum is
- 18:19Speaker 7: just gonna keep building and building, and the noise and
- 18:24Speaker 7: you know, but I also, and I've also talked about
- 18:26Speaker 7: this too, I think there's also a ton of pressure
- 18:28Speaker 7: when you have such a passionate fan base, an energetic
- 18:31Speaker 7: fan base, a starving fan base, one that is waited
- 18:36Speaker 7: a long time to be one game away from winning
- 18:38Speaker 7: a World seriously series, You got to imagine the pressure
- 18:42Speaker 7: that the ballplayers feel shown up to the field today.
- 18:45Speaker 7: I mean, I left my hotel room at eight thirty
- 18:48Speaker 7: this morning, and I kid you not, there was about
- 18:51Speaker 7: a thousand people in line already, whether that was to
- 18:53Speaker 7: get merchandise, whether that was you know, people that buy
- 18:56Speaker 7: those general admission tickets to standing area to wait in line.
- 18:59Speaker 7: But there was over a thousand people there lined up.
- 19:02Speaker 7: So I can only imagine what it's gonna be like
- 19:05Speaker 7: as a player, whether you know, you uber to the stadium,
- 19:08Speaker 7: you walk, you ride a scooter, you park in the
- 19:11Speaker 7: and the parking lot there. I mean if I look
- 19:13Speaker 7: down my window right now, it's probably multiplied five times
- 19:16Speaker 7: right now. Like this city is vibrant, it's electric. You know,
- 19:20Speaker 7: it's the talk of the town rightfully. So so you know,
- 19:23Speaker 7: with that comes a little added pressure. But I mean,
- 19:26Speaker 7: this is a team that has faced so much adversity
- 19:30Speaker 7: just I mean, not even during the regular season. Let's
- 19:32Speaker 7: just talk about what they faced in the postseason. You know,
- 19:35Speaker 7: losing Bobashet, going down the stretch, having to win a
- 19:38Speaker 7: one sixty two to to win the division, to give
- 19:40Speaker 7: them a bye week, you know, have to go in
- 19:43Speaker 7: New York to win some games, to be down two
- 19:46Speaker 7: against Seattle, going into a hostile environment, being down three
- 19:49Speaker 7: to two to Seattle to to to win this and
- 19:51Speaker 7: then ultimately going up against you know, the elite of
- 19:55Speaker 7: the elite with the Dodgers, you know, a juggernaut, the
- 19:58Speaker 7: defending champions to it was an eighteen inning game and
- 20:01Speaker 7: come back and be unfazed. If there was ever a
- 20:04Speaker 7: team that is built to kind of handle everything that
- 20:07Speaker 7: we're talking about, from a home field advantage, from nerves,
- 20:11Speaker 7: from understanding, you know, I was never in this situation.
- 20:14Speaker 7: I can't even imagine what it was like going to
- 20:15Speaker 7: bed last night knowing, you know, one more sleep and
- 20:18Speaker 7: I could be a World Series championship, a champion. It
- 20:22Speaker 7: has to enter your mind. But this team is just
- 20:26Speaker 7: so steady with their approach the day to day. You
- 20:29Speaker 7: watch them come out for BP every day, you watch
- 20:31Speaker 7: them stretch. It's just if it looks like they're playing
- 20:34Speaker 7: spring training games like there's there's no heartbeat. It's a
- 20:38Speaker 7: ton of fun. It's a ton of passion, constantly deflecting
- 20:41Speaker 7: the attention from themselves to their teammates. This team is
- 20:45Speaker 7: really really kind of built for this moment.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and last question for me, every time I see
- 20:51Speaker 3: this picture, I forgot I have a mask on. Last
- 20:54Speaker 3: question for me, real simple. Vlad Guerrero Junior bro the
- 20:58Speaker 3: guy's absolutely unstoppable. How do you get this guy out?
- 21:03Speaker 3: I'm telling you right now, you think about what he's doing,
- 21:06Speaker 3: it's Otani esque, if not better, what he's doing in
- 21:08Speaker 3: this World Series. He's the MVP, undoubtedly if they win
- 21:12Speaker 3: the World Series. How do you find a way to
- 21:14Speaker 3: stop this guy from getting home runs, doubles, hitting the
- 21:18Speaker 3: ball hard?
- 21:18Speaker 4: Basically, yeah, I don't.
- 21:20Speaker 7: I don't think there is a way right now. I
- 21:21Speaker 7: think you gotta. I think you've got to give him
- 21:23Speaker 7: the treatment right now. I mean if i'm if I'm
- 21:26Speaker 7: and obviously you gotta trust Yamamoto because he's given you
- 21:29Speaker 7: a reason not to. But the first step bat would
- 21:32Speaker 7: be very telling to me. I mean, I would go
- 21:33Speaker 7: after him because Yamamoto's arguably the best picture in the
- 21:37Speaker 7: world right now. He's definitely the best picture in the postseason.
- 21:40Speaker 7: But if Lottie's able to either hit a ball hard
- 21:42Speaker 7: off him, you know, reach first base, get a hit.
- 21:46Speaker 7: If I'm the Dodgers, I'm not losing a World Series.
- 21:50Speaker 7: I'm not losing this series because we just continue to
- 21:53Speaker 7: face Vladdie. He has shown no ability to have a
- 21:56Speaker 7: weakness in his swing. He's shown no ability to really
- 21:59Speaker 7: chase outside at the zone. He's taking his walks. He's
- 22:03Speaker 7: content with taking hits, you know, when he gets later
- 22:06Speaker 7: in the count or you know he's facing tough pitching.
- 22:10Speaker 7: You know, he's set a franchise record for home runs.
- 22:12Speaker 7: He's a complete package right now. But you have to
- 22:16Speaker 7: give a ton of credit to the guys hitting around
- 22:18Speaker 7: him too, because you know, it's hard to put a
- 22:21Speaker 7: guy on base when the guys behind him are also producing.
- 22:24Speaker 7: Obviously not at the same level of Vlad, but it's
- 22:28Speaker 7: the main reason that you know, the Blue Jays did
- 22:30Speaker 7: what they did in the eighteen in game because they
- 22:34Speaker 7: had a struggling guy hitting behind Otani. And obviously the
- 22:37Speaker 7: guy hitting behind him is a first ballot Hall of Famer,
- 22:39Speaker 7: but recency bias is real. What have you done for
- 22:42Speaker 7: me lately? And he hasn't been able to do much.
- 22:45Speaker 7: And fortunately for Vladi, the guys hitting behind him have
- 22:48Speaker 7: been able to not only carry their weight, but they've
- 22:51Speaker 7: been great. So it's a tough thing that the Dodgers
- 22:54Speaker 7: are having to navigate because Vlati has been unstoppable. But
- 22:58Speaker 7: putting a guy on first, you know, every single time,
- 23:01Speaker 7: and not taking your chances knowing that there's a lot
- 23:03Speaker 7: of protection behind them is also a risky move.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Ap, you're the man, this is it. This could be
- 23:11Speaker 2: your last broadcast of the year. I feel like you've
- 23:13Speaker 2: been doing this for years now, but you actually were
- 23:15Speaker 2: playing some Major League baseball earlier this year, so you've
- 23:18Speaker 2: transitioned back.
- 23:20Speaker 7: I'll tell you what, though, give a credit to a
- 23:21Speaker 7: lot of these players, right because I don't want to
- 23:25Speaker 7: sit here and sound like I'm ungrateful when I'm complaining.
- 23:27Speaker 7: But the travel has been a lot, like I'm I'm like,
- 23:30Speaker 7: I'm fatigued, like coming here. Yeah, I don't have the adrenaline.
- 23:35Speaker 7: I mean, I do still feel it when I'm up there,
- 23:37Speaker 7: you know, watching the game, and obviously when I'm here,
- 23:40Speaker 7: like the fans are still great to me, Like I
- 23:42Speaker 7: still like, you know, my heart beats fast for the game,
- 23:45Speaker 7: and that's how I know I still care. But this
- 23:47Speaker 7: travel has been a lot, man, like the east to
- 23:50Speaker 7: west coast, the west to east, like probably fill sleep
- 23:53Speaker 7: last night at seven thirty and I woke up at
- 23:55Speaker 7: ten thirty and I was like, oh man, I had
- 23:56Speaker 7: a hard time going to bed. I can only imagine
- 23:58Speaker 7: what these players are going through right now. But they're
- 24:01Speaker 7: they're doing a great job. If they are tired, they
- 24:03Speaker 7: are hiding it because I think it's not just me,
- 24:05Speaker 7: it's my entire staff that I work with, all the
- 24:09Speaker 7: you know, people that are on the field with the credentials.
- 24:11Speaker 7: We all talk about it. We're feeling it. So credit
- 24:13Speaker 7: to both teams because that eighteen in game was real.
- 24:17Speaker 7: That was a long day and then the flights have
- 24:19Speaker 7: been long. So kudos to these guys for putting on
- 24:21Speaker 7: a show. We're Baseball's in a great place. Let's not
- 24:25Speaker 7: shut this thing down now because you know, you know,
- 24:28Speaker 7: we're we're getting you know here, we're getting about eight
- 24:30Speaker 7: and a half nine million Canadians night watching this game.
- 24:33Speaker 8: So Baseball's in a great place.
- 24:35Speaker 1: So it is, it is. I'm with you.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So either the Blue Jays close it out tonight or
- 24:40Speaker 2: Blue Jays vangel ce KP live at that brand new
- 24:43Speaker 2: Litz store. It's ten minute walk from the ballpark. That
- 24:48Speaker 2: is the address, three ninety nine Queen Street West. An
- 24:52Speaker 2: hour with KP. Go say hi and tell him how
- 24:55Speaker 2: much you love him on Foul Territory and on sports
- 24:58Speaker 2: netprem Post.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Thanks KP. Enjoy the game man, All right.
- 25:01Speaker 7: See you guys, Bye soon, Bye bye.
- 25:07Speaker 2: This episode of FT presented by Fox One. I'm back. Wow,
- 25:13Speaker 2: it's good to see you, guys. It's really good to
- 25:15Speaker 2: see you, guys.
- 25:16Speaker 5: Mischief for Scott was dressed up. Scott was dressed up
- 25:20Speaker 5: as a guy without good Internet. Great costume, Scott, great costume.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Thank you. Yeah.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I figured I wanted to be as spooky as possible
- 25:31Speaker 2: on a Friday, so that's what I did. I was like,
- 25:33Speaker 2: you know, it would really spook people out, me disappearing
- 25:37Speaker 2: for large parts of the show.
- 25:39Speaker 5: You were dressed up as as the Yankees back in
- 25:42Speaker 5: twenty twenty one. No internet on the plane, so you
- 25:45Speaker 5: had to You were sending us letters. That was nice.
- 25:48Speaker 5: That was nice of you.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm old school.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Okay, handwritten note if you can read it, because I
- 25:54Speaker 2: write like a doctor. But Territory presented by Fox One.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Uh free seven day trial if you haven't done it.
- 26:01Speaker 2: This is really last licks for us to tell you
- 26:03Speaker 2: about it for now and QR codes on the screen.
- 26:07Speaker 2: But even when we don't talk about it next week,
- 26:09Speaker 2: it's still there for you. It's brand new. Millions have
- 26:12Speaker 2: signed up so you could do the same. And that
- 26:14Speaker 2: includes if you're looking for a way to watch the
- 26:16Speaker 2: world Series two night.
- 26:19Speaker 5: Well, one question I have for you, Todd. Did you
- 26:22Speaker 5: see Tommy Edmonds ad bats against you Savage the other night?
- 26:28Speaker 4: I saw one at bat versus Savage. Yes, not all.
- 26:32Speaker 5: He chose to hit right handed switch hitter. He did it.
- 26:36Speaker 5: He did it the other he did it earlier in
- 26:37Speaker 5: the season against Estrada, Jeremiah Estrada. First, First of all,
- 26:43Speaker 5: I would have loved to have been been a switch
- 26:45Speaker 5: hitter because you never see that ball coming at you
- 26:48Speaker 5: and you get the old like oh oh. And then
- 26:51Speaker 5: to go ahead and do it in the World Series
- 26:53Speaker 5: because he did it in Game one and he did
- 26:55Speaker 5: it in Game five. The interesting thought process to me,
- 26:59Speaker 5: and I want to see what you think about this
- 27:01Speaker 5: is Yo, I think it's I think it's just a
- 27:05Speaker 5: it's a very it's a bold move to take your
- 27:08Speaker 5: right handed at bats against a righty. But since he's
- 27:10Speaker 5: coming so high up over, you know, maybe it looked
- 27:13Speaker 5: like a left hander because he was so his release
- 27:16Speaker 5: point was so high.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:18Speaker 3: And I I mean, for me, I want to bring
- 27:20Speaker 3: in Timmy Kirch and ask him about it. Hey, Kurch,
- 27:22Speaker 3: what do you think about my mask? Big dog? Can
- 27:25Speaker 3: you see?
- 27:26Speaker 8: Is that a mask? I thought that was just you
- 27:29Speaker 8: in real life.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Oh you know, you know what, big dog, You're in
- 27:32Speaker 4: some trouble for that one. I didn't like that. That
- 27:35Speaker 4: was not fair, not fair at all.
- 27:38Speaker 8: Jim, does it say?
- 27:40Speaker 4: Dad?
- 27:41Speaker 8: There is that right?
- 27:43Speaker 4: My daughter made it for me? Actually, yes, yeah.
- 27:46Speaker 8: When my son Jeff was seven, he went out to
- 27:50Speaker 8: Halloween dressed as meat. So he had an ESPN microphone
- 27:55Speaker 8: with an ESPN mic flag and he was wearing a
- 27:57Speaker 8: little black suit, and like ninety percent of the people said,
- 28:02Speaker 8: who the hell are you like that? No idea? He
- 28:05Speaker 8: was going poor poppap heer. So yes, so that I
- 28:10Speaker 8: think you look great, Todd, And so do you, Cratzy?
- 28:12Speaker 8: You look great too. Way to go.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I appreciate that. Do you know who I am? Though? Tim?
- 28:18Speaker 8: Uh? You you're wearing a scarf of some sort. So
- 28:21Speaker 8: are you just being yourself?
- 28:23Speaker 5: Is that it grew? I am grew. I am grew
- 28:26Speaker 5: from Minions and Despicable Me right right.
- 28:30Speaker 8: My grandson Carson's second birthday, I went as Doctor Nefario
- 28:36Speaker 8: from Despicable Me. And he's my best friend, my grandson.
- 28:41Speaker 8: When I showed up in that outfit and I'm all
- 28:45Speaker 8: covered up, goggles, had all that stuff. He didn't know
- 28:49Speaker 8: who I was, and he got really afraid that I
- 28:52Speaker 8: was the real doctor Nefario it was so I took
- 28:56Speaker 8: it all off and said, Carson, it's me Pop Pop,
- 28:58Speaker 8: don't worry. So yes, we have Halloween costumes for sure.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Tim You sound like an incredible grandfather and you are
- 29:05Speaker 5: an incredible baseball fan. First of all, just a big,
- 29:10Speaker 5: high level question for you, What the heck's gonna happen
- 29:13Speaker 5: in the game tonight, Tim.
- 29:16Speaker 8: Eric, I have been wrong so many times during the
- 29:20Speaker 8: regular season, the postseason, including the World Series. It's not
- 29:25Speaker 8: even funny. Me and a million other people have been
- 29:28Speaker 8: totally wrong. I just told everyone the Dodgers have a
- 29:33Speaker 8: pitching advantage in Games four and five, and of course
- 29:36Speaker 8: they lost both games. Eduardo Perez, World's greatest teammate, we
- 29:40Speaker 8: were going over Game five. What was gonna happen? He said,
- 29:42Speaker 8: I think they get you savage tonight. That's what I think,
- 29:45Speaker 8: and then he, of course, he throws one of the
- 29:47Speaker 8: greatest games ever. Anybody who actually thinks we know what's
- 29:51Speaker 8: gonna happen tonight hasn't been watching the twenty twenty five season,
- 29:55Speaker 8: especially the postseason. Most unpredictable season I've ever seen. It
- 29:59Speaker 8: has been glory for that reason. To answer your question,
- 30:02Speaker 8: I think Yamamodo's gonna throw another Gem tonight and I
- 30:05Speaker 8: think the Dodgers are gonna win. But if you believe that,
- 30:08Speaker 8: then I've been wrong. We've all been wrong so many times.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Good thank you for that. Tim.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Anyway, talking about Vlatty Guerrero Jr. And Vladdy Guerrero Senor,
- 30:23Speaker 3: I mean, look at the historical runs that vlat Guerrero Jr.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Has been on.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Talk a little bit about both of these guys and
- 30:29Speaker 3: how really, just how fantastic is There's no way of
- 30:32Speaker 3: getting this guy out.
- 30:33Speaker 4: There's no flaws.
- 30:35Speaker 8: Yeah, he's incredible. He's hitting over four hundred in the postseason.
- 30:38Speaker 8: He's got twenty nine hits, he's got eight homers, and
- 30:41Speaker 8: he's struck out five times. Eight homers, five strikeouts in
- 30:46Speaker 8: this strikeout era is absolutely unbelievable. I had a scout
- 30:51Speaker 8: tell me before the postseason began. He said, this is
- 30:54Speaker 8: gonna be the postseason of Vlattie Junior. You watch went
- 30:58Speaker 8: what and that's exact exactly what it has been. Also,
- 31:02Speaker 8: Todd Eric, he is an above average defensive first baseman.
- 31:07Speaker 8: He runs way better than people think. He's got great
- 31:11Speaker 8: instincts for the game, which of course he got from
- 31:13Speaker 8: his father. He is a complete all round player, and
- 31:16Speaker 8: yet sometimes we just think of him as this lumbering, big,
- 31:20Speaker 8: unathletic first baseman. I can promise you he is the
- 31:24Speaker 8: furthest thing from that. I knew he was a good
- 31:26Speaker 8: all round player. He's even better than I thought, but
- 31:29Speaker 8: the way he has swung the bat in this postseason
- 31:32Speaker 8: has been absolutely incredible. I asked Ernie Clement, you know,
- 31:36Speaker 8: how do how do we explain Flattie? He goes, there's
- 31:39Speaker 8: no explaining Flattie. He's too good. There's no explanation for
- 31:43Speaker 8: how great he is.
- 31:45Speaker 5: All right, and then I have to be negative Nelly here,
- 31:47Speaker 5: since I'm I'm guru today, What is wrong with Mookie Betts?
- 31:52Speaker 5: Do you ever believe that you would see an athletic
- 31:56Speaker 5: player like this that has clearly he's on the way
- 31:59Speaker 5: to the Hall of Fame to get into a slump
- 32:03Speaker 5: in the biggest time of the season like Mookie Betts has.
- 32:07Speaker 8: Well, We've seen all sorts of slumps in the postseason.
- 32:10Speaker 8: The beauty of baseball is the best players aren't always
- 32:13Speaker 8: the best. Remember, Barry Bonds wasn't great at the beginning.
- 32:15Speaker 8: Neither was Clayton Kershaw or Randy Johnson. They all struggled
- 32:19Speaker 8: in the postseason. Then of course they all figured it out,
- 32:23Speaker 8: and I think Mookie will. But this slump is severe.
- 32:26Speaker 8: He's three for his last twenty three. He's hitting the
- 32:30Speaker 8: ball up in the air, consistently, weak pop up, shallow
- 32:34Speaker 8: fly balls. It's just doesn't look like him. And you
- 32:37Speaker 8: guys know him a little bit. He beats himself up
- 32:40Speaker 8: after every out that he makes. He is for a
- 32:43Speaker 8: great player who's going to the Hall of Fame. He
- 32:46Speaker 8: you know, he is really hard on himself and he's
- 32:49Speaker 8: a little bit insecure, which I find hard to believe. Now,
- 32:51Speaker 8: a couple of hits will get him out of this,
- 32:53Speaker 8: but he is really in trouble right now. It can
- 32:56Speaker 8: be fixed in one game, but I'm not sure they're
- 32:58Speaker 8: gonna do much more if Mookie doesn't start to hit,
- 33:01Speaker 8: because fellas this whole offense. The last twenty nine innings,
- 33:05Speaker 8: the Dodgers have scored four runs. They're hitting one sixty
- 33:09Speaker 8: five with four homers and twenty nine strikeouts in the
- 33:13Speaker 8: last In the last twenty nine innings. It's just terrible
- 33:17Speaker 8: how they're swinging the bat right now and they're up
- 33:19Speaker 8: against another really good pitcher tonight.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Yeah, in the most inopportune times, And I find that
- 33:25Speaker 3: the toughest part to be a World Series champion. You
- 33:28Speaker 3: got you gotta most of them's got a click on
- 33:30Speaker 3: all cylinders, but you got your guy going. They got
- 33:32Speaker 3: their guy going in Yamamoto. Man, this guy's been absolutely incredible.
- 33:36Speaker 3: I mean, back to back nine inning performances, complete games.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Can you see this guy going in another nine today?
- 33:43Speaker 8: I can because we've seen their bullpen, Todd, and they've
- 33:47Speaker 8: they've lost faith in the bullpen other than Sasaki. So
- 33:50Speaker 8: he threw one hundred and eleven and one hundred and
- 33:53Speaker 8: five pitches the last two times out. I think he's
- 33:55Speaker 8: gonna throw if he doesn't get hurt early, he's gonna
- 33:58Speaker 8: he's gonna throw a third complete game tonight. The last
- 34:01Speaker 8: guy to do that in the same postseason was Kurt
- 34:03Speaker 8: Chilling in two thousand and one. The last pitcher to
- 34:07Speaker 8: win two consecutive postseason World Series games and pitch a
- 34:11Speaker 8: complete game was orl Herscheizer in nineteen eighty eight. This
- 34:16Speaker 8: guy is different. He throws a javelin before games. He
- 34:20Speaker 8: stretches in a way where it hurts to even watch him.
- 34:23Speaker 8: He has elite command, he misses bats, and I'm told
- 34:27Speaker 8: his only fault is that he's constantly chasing. I'm told
- 34:32Speaker 8: the perfect pitch, Like everything has to be perfect for
- 34:36Speaker 8: this guy, which is why he gets behind in the
- 34:38Speaker 8: count one and oh once in a while because he's
- 34:40Speaker 8: trying to make that perfect pitch on oh. Once he
- 34:43Speaker 8: gets through that, I'm not sure there's anybody that can
- 34:46Speaker 8: handle this guy. At least they have it in this postseason, Tam, you.
- 34:51Speaker 5: Love the game baseball, You love good stories. Clayton Kershaw,
- 34:55Speaker 5: do you want to see him get in another game,
- 34:58Speaker 5: risking the fact that you know his last outing was
- 35:01Speaker 5: awesome getting out of bases loaded, Jam, Do you, as
- 35:05Speaker 5: a baseball fan, want to risk it for the biscuit
- 35:09Speaker 5: that Clayton Kershall getting in a game could give a
- 35:14Speaker 5: little bad taste in your mouth? Or do you see
- 35:16Speaker 5: the Dodgers needing Clayton Kershaw to be able to win
- 35:20Speaker 5: this World Series.
- 35:21Speaker 8: I think they're gonna need him. I hope he pitches.
- 35:24Speaker 8: I will I'll deal with the risk of him going out,
- 35:28Speaker 8: not on top, because he's already on top. He's the
- 35:30Speaker 8: first ballot Hall of Famer. He's the best pitcher of
- 35:33Speaker 8: this generation. He had a tremendous season. He got an
- 35:36Speaker 8: enormous out in Game three of this series. So and
- 35:39Speaker 8: I think there isn't one second that he would ever think, Boy,
- 35:43Speaker 8: what happens if I pitch one more time and it
- 35:45Speaker 8: doesn't work out? I don't think that would ever cross
- 35:48Speaker 8: his mind. So therefore it's not going to cross my mind.
- 35:51Speaker 8: We need to see him pitch one more time in
- 35:54Speaker 8: a high leverage situation in this World Series. To me,
- 35:57Speaker 8: one way or another, that would close out his career
- 36:00Speaker 8: in a really good way. To see him one more time.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Not only do you love baseball, but you love umpires too.
- 36:07Speaker 3: You know were you and I when we work together,
- 36:09Speaker 3: we like to see the game within the game. We
- 36:12Speaker 3: talk about umpires, strike calls. You know, we don't like
- 36:15Speaker 3: this way. We like this way. First question, serious question,
- 36:19Speaker 3: how do you think the umpire has been doing this
- 36:21Speaker 3: World three?
- 36:21Speaker 4: Second one?
- 36:22Speaker 3: Did you see John Chumpayne on a foul tip strike three?
- 36:24Speaker 3: He went up and he gave a little death. What
- 36:27Speaker 3: do you think about that?
- 36:28Speaker 5: One?
- 36:29Speaker 8: I watched the umpires really closely because of some friends.
- 36:33Speaker 8: I umpired as a kid, and I've also been hanging
- 36:36Speaker 8: around you Todd way too much to watch how you
- 36:39Speaker 8: referee and you umpire. Yes, I saw the Tumpayn thing.
- 36:42Speaker 8: I think the umpires have done a pretty good job.
- 36:45Speaker 8: I'm on the other side of this, fella.
- 36:47Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 36:47Speaker 8: I think they normally do a pretty darn good job.
- 36:50Speaker 8: And I maintain the average fan wouldn't last three pitches
- 36:54Speaker 8: behind home blade a major league gay before he says,
- 36:57Speaker 8: get me out of here. This is too scary, This
- 37:00Speaker 8: is too dangerous. It takes some courage to go back there, Kratzy,
- 37:03Speaker 8: you know this and call a major league game. I
- 37:06Speaker 8: think they've done a pretty darn good job so far,
- 37:08Speaker 8: especially behind the plate.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Let me ask you this, Timmy, we talk about umpires
- 37:16Speaker 3: and everything else.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Can I can you give me like your your strike.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Three call real quick if we're if we're looking right now,
- 37:22Speaker 3: if you can just get in the screen there.
- 37:24Speaker 8: Yeah, Well, strike one is like this, strike one, strike two,
- 37:29Speaker 8: and then strike three is I pull the what's it called?
- 37:31Speaker 8: I pulled the chain. I go like this, Ah, that's
- 37:34Speaker 8: strike three right there. That's what I used to do.
- 37:37Speaker 8: It didn't go over too well. When I'm striking out
- 37:40Speaker 8: a nine year old like that in Little league, you know,
- 37:43Speaker 8: fifty years ago. But that's what I used to do.
- 37:45Speaker 8: Kind of a silent strike one, silent strike two, but
- 37:49Speaker 8: then an emphatic ah strike three with the love that.
- 37:54Speaker 5: So you start the chainsaw and then the kid and
- 37:56Speaker 5: then the kid goes like this, that wasn't a strike.
- 38:01Speaker 8: Right, Well, he didn't call me mister Kirkchen and he
- 38:04Speaker 8: started to cry when I struck him out, So I
- 38:06Speaker 8: have to be careful the next time I call a
- 38:08Speaker 8: game like that. And Kratzy you've seen You've seen Todd
- 38:11Speaker 8: do all of his NBA referee stuff, right, you've seen
- 38:14Speaker 8: all of that. Seriously, is that the funniest thing you've
- 38:16Speaker 8: ever seen in your life?
- 38:18Speaker 5: It's the second best, It's the second best in baseball.
- 38:21Speaker 5: Stephen vote have the best, right, but he's just more
- 38:25Speaker 5: He's just energetic about it. But Todd is like he
- 38:28Speaker 5: is spot on, you're here here.
- 38:34Speaker 8: It's here. The difference between a block and a charge
- 38:37Speaker 8: for him, and then he has to like run the
- 38:41Speaker 8: court to show that that's it's here. It's so bad. Wait,
- 38:48Speaker 8: let me just throw in the blanks. So Tommy Edmund
- 38:51Speaker 8: told me he batted right handed against Corbyn Burns, Jeremiah Strada,
- 38:55Speaker 8: who you brought up, Tommy Kinley in the World Series
- 38:58Speaker 8: last year and now tray you Savage. So he told
- 39:01Speaker 8: me He's had at least thirty right on right at
- 39:04Speaker 8: bats and it works for him, even though it hasn't
- 39:07Speaker 8: worked for him against you Savage in this postseason. But
- 39:10Speaker 8: I found it really interesting with Birds's cutter and the
- 39:13Speaker 8: way Estrada throws and Cainley's change up. He's thinking this
- 39:17Speaker 8: way through this but right on right, I'm with you guys.
- 39:19Speaker 8: It looks like a disadvantage to me, but it feels
- 39:22Speaker 8: right to.
- 39:23Speaker 5: Him, especially he faces right handed BP pitchers all the
- 39:27Speaker 5: time right, so people are like, ah, whatever, whatever. My
- 39:31Speaker 5: last question for you, Tim is this game globally? Could
- 39:35Speaker 5: it have grown any more in this series? The fact
- 39:38Speaker 5: that Japan ten percent of the Japanese market is watching
- 39:42Speaker 5: these games so far based on the ratings, more than
- 39:45Speaker 5: I think it's like seventeen percent of the Canadian fans
- 39:50Speaker 5: or the Canadian TV market, and then obviously Fox's telecast
- 39:54Speaker 5: is higher than it ever has been. So could the
- 39:57Speaker 5: game have grown more globally based on the fact that
- 39:59Speaker 5: they're pl playing Shoheo Tani's Dodgers and Canada's Blue Jays
- 40:05Speaker 5: in this epic. I mean it's been six games so far.
- 40:08Speaker 5: We could go to game seven. Yeah.
- 40:10Speaker 8: I think this has been great for baseball. This has
- 40:13Speaker 8: been a global phenomenon. It's been great. And when Vlatty
- 40:17Speaker 8: from the Dominican hit a home run off of Otani,
- 40:20Speaker 8: I mean, that's exactly what we're looking for. Are the
- 40:23Speaker 8: stars being their best against other stars. I'm always amused
- 40:28Speaker 8: that football is trying to go international. No disrespect to anyone,
- 40:32Speaker 8: but football to me, you know, it is like as
- 40:34Speaker 8: international is the international house of pancakes, you know, but
- 40:37Speaker 8: baseball is really international, and it's gotten even more international
- 40:43Speaker 8: in this World Series with what we're seeing. It's really
- 40:46Speaker 8: growing the game every single day, and I think that's great.
- 40:50Speaker 4: Well, Tim, thank you very much.
- 40:51Speaker 3: I want to give a quick shout out to your
- 40:53Speaker 3: podcast with your son.
- 40:55Speaker 4: Jeffrey, who's a real cuts friend of mine too as well.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Great game or What podcast with son Jeffrey, who speaks
- 41:02Speaker 3: verbatim just like his father.
- 41:03Speaker 4: I get very confused when those twok fox and it's
- 41:08Speaker 4: a little pitchy. It's a little squeaky, but at the
- 41:11Speaker 4: same time he laughed so hard and his hands are
- 41:13Speaker 4: the biggest hands for the littlest guy.
- 41:15Speaker 8: He's the biggest guy I've ever seen in my life.
- 41:21Speaker 3: And seriously, you got a great podcast. We love you,
- 41:24Speaker 3: I love you. I can't wait to see you again.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Enjoy game six, hopefully game seven, because that's only better
- 41:30Speaker 3: for the Florida Baseball Thank you.
- 41:31Speaker 8: Absolutely, this series is too good to stop at six.
- 41:34Speaker 8: We gotta go seven. Thanks so much for having me, boys,
- 41:37Speaker 8: I'll see you soon.
- 41:39Speaker 4: See you.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Hey boys, Hey there. Do you know about Arena Club?

- 42:08Speaker 5: Hey.

- 42:12Speaker 2: and everything that goes into health, fitness and nutrition, Superpower

- 42:36Speaker 5: in a supplement which they provide. I'm gonna go ahead
- 42:39Speaker 5: and look at that in my daily daily workouts, which
- 42:42Speaker 5: they give so many different ideas of how to make
- 42:46Speaker 5: sure your deficiencies become some of your superpowers.

- 43:00Speaker 2: about them, and make sure you mention ft your biology decoded,
- 43:04Speaker 2: your blueprint activated with superpower. In the weeds we go,
- 43:16Speaker 2: there's a lot of chatter about what's going to happen
- 43:18Speaker 2: the next one or two days. I want to start
- 43:21Speaker 2: here because I know KP was able to give us
- 43:24Speaker 2: his thoughts.
- 43:25Speaker 1: But Kratz, you go next.
- 43:27Speaker 2: As we talk about game six, what do you think
- 43:31Speaker 2: the Dodgers need to do to keep this thing alive?
- 43:33Speaker 1: Like, I want to get your deep dive thoughts.
- 43:36Speaker 2: If you're the Dodgers, how do you suddenly snap out
- 43:38Speaker 2: of a hitting funk, and how do you beat Kevin
- 43:41Speaker 2: Gossman to get yourself to a game seven. You can
- 43:44Speaker 2: also include what you would do from a bullpen perspective
- 43:48Speaker 2: if there's an emergency and Yamamoto doesn't go CG because
- 43:54Speaker 2: the way I know the game, it's tough to rack
- 43:57Speaker 2: up three straight nine inning performance. So if that's not
- 44:01Speaker 2: the case, this is your whole season. This is the
- 44:04Speaker 2: biggest moment for your dynasty. Can you be the team
- 44:07Speaker 2: that can rack back to backs? But you got to
- 44:09Speaker 2: get through game six? So lay that all out for me.
- 44:11Speaker 5: First, easy, I'll hit the pitching first. Yamamoto's gonna have
- 44:15Speaker 5: a terrible game and he's gonna go six innings and
- 44:19Speaker 5: Roki Sosaki's gonna throw two show Hey, he's gonna close
- 44:22Speaker 5: it out Like that's that's what happens. If Yamamoto just
- 44:26Speaker 5: isn't regular Yamamoto, like regular Yamamoto might go another complete game.
- 44:32Speaker 5: But to me, I don't see that door opening to
- 44:35Speaker 5: the bullpen until Max eighth inning, Max Yoshinobo Yamamoto has
- 44:44Speaker 5: had fifteen I said it earlier in the show fifteen
- 44:47Speaker 5: to three ball pitches all postseason pitches, not counts pitches.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Four of them were to Dalton Varshow when he got
- 44:57Speaker 5: three to zero and then he battled back, I'm sorry,
- 45:00Speaker 5: three of them. Three of them, so fifteen total, Like
- 45:03Speaker 5: that is showing you that he is attacking the zone.
- 45:06Speaker 5: And when you're attacking the zone and you've thrown one
- 45:08Speaker 5: hundred and thirty eight pitches in a game six in
- 45:12Speaker 5: the in the Japanese series, in the KBO I mean
- 45:16Speaker 5: not KBO series, in the Japanese series a few years ago,
- 45:20Speaker 5: like you're ready for these big moments. He's going to throw.
- 45:23Speaker 5: We might see one hundred and twenty five pitches. Does
- 45:26Speaker 5: that take him all day to the ninth? I don't know,
- 45:28Speaker 5: But then it's gonna be rokie. Then it's gonna be show.
- 45:31Speaker 5: Hey whatever Yamamoto isna get. So the pitching was easy hitting.
- 45:35Speaker 5: I'll tell you what you do. You get a day off.
- 45:37Speaker 5: After Game five, the boys come to the yard, you
- 45:41Speaker 5: swing a little bit, You feel like, okay, yeah, you
- 45:44Speaker 5: know what, this place is gonna be rocking. We hear
- 45:46Speaker 5: it quiet right now. We are a good team. They
- 45:49Speaker 5: don't need a meeting about why they're not doing well,
- 45:52Speaker 5: what their launch angles are all that stuff. They're not
- 45:54Speaker 5: going to have a meeting. They're all gonna go get
- 45:56Speaker 5: haircuts because when you have a haircut, you feel so
- 45:59Speaker 5: much better. And if you look good, you feel good,
- 46:03Speaker 5: you play good. It's just a matter of time for
- 46:05Speaker 5: this lineup to turn around. They don't need to shuffle everything.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Mookie doesn't need to hit fifth. You know, I would
- 46:11Speaker 5: love to see show Hey maybe hit second, but I
- 46:13Speaker 5: get it. It might be a one swing game. So
- 46:15Speaker 5: you want show Hay to get up as many times
- 46:17Speaker 5: as possible, and you go out there and you lay
- 46:21Speaker 5: it all on the line.
- 46:23Speaker 3: I like you thinking that. I didn't think of it
- 46:25Speaker 3: like that, but now thinking of him, maybe you know
- 46:29Speaker 3: you're spot on. Don't change too much. But maybe putting
- 46:31Speaker 3: Mooki in the leadoff hole, get ready for a first
- 46:33Speaker 3: pitch fastball and just try and swing as hard as
- 46:36Speaker 3: you can and see how far you can hit. It
- 46:37Speaker 3: wouldn't be the worst possibility. He's hit there before. He
- 46:41Speaker 3: knows how to play that position. He knows and he'll
- 46:44Speaker 3: be ready for you know, if it's not a fastball,
- 46:46Speaker 3: then he can make the adjustment.
- 46:47Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, I don't think
- 46:49Speaker 4: that would be that big of a move.
- 46:51Speaker 3: Because next thing, you know, if he did get hot,
- 46:54Speaker 3: all of a sudden, you got a guy on with
- 46:55Speaker 3: show hay out. But you think about long running those situations.
- 47:00Speaker 3: He gets on hits a double, then they're gonna walk
- 47:01Speaker 3: show Hey no matter what. But it gets you back
- 47:03Speaker 3: to the top of the lineup. If I'm this Blue
- 47:06Speaker 3: Jay team, honestly, you haven't hit Yamamoto at all, So
- 47:11Speaker 3: what's the approach? Cratzy. It's hard to do. In your mind,
- 47:14Speaker 3: you're telling yourself you can do it. The only thing
- 47:16Speaker 3: I could think of is sitting on a pitch that
- 47:18Speaker 3: you know you can hit. He's got five pitches, maybe
- 47:22Speaker 3: even more. You know you're not gonna sit on that
- 47:24Speaker 3: splitter because it's really nasty and he throws a lot
- 47:27Speaker 3: of them.
- 47:27Speaker 4: For balls.
- 47:28Speaker 3: You got to sit on that breaking pitch or the
- 47:31Speaker 3: fastball the hole it bat until you get the two
- 47:33Speaker 3: strikes and you can't miss it, and you gotta look
- 47:36Speaker 3: in your certain area. And for me, if I was
- 47:39Speaker 3: hit and I'm looking for a fastball out over the plate,
- 47:41Speaker 3: if I didn't get it, I have to trust myself
- 47:43Speaker 3: and tell myself, you know what I gave up two strikes.
- 47:46Speaker 3: But I didn't give up my approach. And that's the
- 47:48Speaker 3: way you got to live because ultimately, guess what, you
- 47:50Speaker 3: can't hit him anyway. So you want to look silly
- 47:52Speaker 3: swinging a couple of pitches foul, couple off like, oh, man,
- 47:54Speaker 3: I should have hit that. No, you want to get
- 47:57Speaker 3: the one pitch you're looking for, Stay on it and
- 48:00Speaker 3: hopefully you can drive that ball out of the park
- 48:02Speaker 3: or get on base somewhere or another. It's Dodger team's
- 48:05Speaker 3: got to figure out a way to hit. They got
- 48:07Speaker 3: to figure out a way to hit, win runners in
- 48:08Speaker 3: scoring position. Kirchin said it best if four runs in
- 48:11Speaker 3: twenty nine innings, that's not gonna cut it. Is it
- 48:13Speaker 3: too little too late?
- 48:15Speaker 5: Man?
- 48:16Speaker 4: A lot of people in America think it is. So
- 48:17Speaker 4: we'll see what happens.
- 48:19Speaker 5: All right. Here's what I'm gonna comment on what you
- 48:22Speaker 5: said about facing Yamamoto as a Blue Jays lineup. What
- 48:25Speaker 5: do the blue Jays do well? They ambush you, and
- 48:28Speaker 5: I'm not saying ambush in a negative way. They come
- 48:31Speaker 5: out and they get after it. If you remember back
- 48:33Speaker 5: to the ball that Vladdie hit, I think it was
- 48:35Speaker 5: a third inning. The Oday I'm not sure he was
- 48:38Speaker 5: on first base, but he had an absolute missile off
- 48:42Speaker 5: the left field wall for a single, and then Yamamoto
- 48:45Speaker 5: cruised after that. But you get to the fastball, and
- 48:49Speaker 5: I'm looking at it against right handers overall, he throws
- 48:52Speaker 5: fifty percent fastballs. Now, is one going to be a
- 48:55Speaker 5: four seemer? Is one maybe gonna cut a little bit
- 48:58Speaker 5: naturally and show up as someone gonna sink? Absolutely, you
- 49:02Speaker 5: can't try to divide those into three pitches. You know.
- 49:05Speaker 5: To me, if you see the split, you don't swing
- 49:08Speaker 5: at it. That's that's your what Todd said, you just
- 49:12Speaker 5: sit on that heater, and you sit on that heater.
- 49:14Speaker 5: I get it. Last time he only threw I forget
- 49:16Speaker 5: what the percentage was of fastballs. You unashamedly sit on
- 49:21Speaker 5: the sit on the heater. You're gonna get three at
- 49:23Speaker 5: bats against him. This is a luxury that very few
- 49:26Speaker 5: big league hitters get, is to get three at bats.
- 49:29Speaker 5: Maybe even the top three guys in the lineup, we'll
- 49:31Speaker 5: get four at bats against them. Stick to your plan
- 49:35Speaker 5: whatever if you're not, if you're saying, you know what, No,
- 49:37Speaker 5: he embarrassed me with that slow curveball he struck Laddie
- 49:40Speaker 5: out with that slow curveball. He was first and third.
- 49:43Speaker 5: I'm sitting on that because he's gonna go to it.
- 49:46Speaker 4: I don't know, a.
- 49:47Speaker 5: Little scary for me. Get on the fastball, and if
- 49:50Speaker 5: you do look dumb, like Todd said, you look dumb,
- 49:54Speaker 5: it's okay. He's gonna be there the next time you're up,
- 49:57Speaker 5: So stick to your plan.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Let me ask you guys a question. I want to
- 50:04Speaker 2: go back to the Otani lineup part. Are they gonna
- 50:08Speaker 2: move him at the leadoff spot? Not likely, but and
- 50:13Speaker 2: I will say this, there have been some who have
- 50:18Speaker 2: been like, oh, move them to like the cleanup spot.
- 50:21Speaker 1: That's ridiculous. But it is there a good.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Case that he should have been hitting second in a
- 50:28Speaker 2: series like this based off how bad their nine spot is.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Their nine spot is an auto out the entire postseason
- 50:40Speaker 2: with Pajes and you know they tried call the other day.
- 50:43Speaker 2: But that's a problem, right, So you never have the
- 50:47Speaker 2: nine hole hitter getting on. You might have the seven
- 50:49Speaker 2: or the eight, but you never have the nine hole
- 50:50Speaker 2: hitter getting on. You want Otani to get as many
- 50:54Speaker 2: A b's as possible in the game, but between one
- 50:56Speaker 2: and two, how often does that happen where you're h
- 51:00Speaker 2: We finished the game with the ones with the leadoff spot,
- 51:03Speaker 2: and we didn't get to the two hitters. So my question,
- 51:05Speaker 2: Kratz is, wouldn't you rather have somebody in front of
- 51:10Speaker 2: him who can get on and cause a little bit
- 51:12Speaker 2: more pressure to me? That's where the two spot changes. Remember,
- 51:15Speaker 2: the best hitters in the sport. We're not hitting one
- 51:19Speaker 2: or two in our sport until eight to ten years
- 51:24Speaker 2: ago is probably when it started. You saw Springer and
- 51:27Speaker 2: a few others pop up at the leadoff spot, right,
- 51:30Speaker 2: But up until that point, if you did that, it
- 51:32Speaker 2: was taboo. The best hitters were three and four. So
- 51:36Speaker 2: that's my question, Kratz. Should Otani have been in the
- 51:40Speaker 2: two spot? We're looking back now, but we can do that.
- 51:43Speaker 2: We're a talk show. It's it's been such a dead
- 51:46Speaker 2: spot as you guys can see it. It's not just
- 51:48Speaker 2: bad results like it's bad AB's. You know, Aj talked
- 51:51Speaker 2: about how he thinks you would do something drastic, just
- 51:54Speaker 2: change your swing, do something because it's been auto outs
- 51:57Speaker 2: and the best player on the planet is always stepping
- 52:00Speaker 2: up after an out.
- 52:03Speaker 5: All right, first, I'm gonna say yes, they should have
- 52:05Speaker 5: made the change when that should have happened to me
- 52:07Speaker 5: Game one of the World Series, because they knew what
- 52:11Speaker 5: Pahes was doing and to like that he wasn't going
- 52:14Speaker 5: to produce, but they were going to keep him in
- 52:15Speaker 5: the lineup, and Mookie Betts wasn't producing up until that
- 52:18Speaker 5: point either, And so you sit there and you go,
- 52:22Speaker 5: I think, this is okay, the reason Shoho Tani is
- 52:25Speaker 5: hitting leadoff, and this is gonna like nobody's even gonna
- 52:28Speaker 5: hear half the things I say, because they're like, no way,
- 52:31Speaker 5: your best hitters should hit third or fourth. You know,
- 52:33Speaker 5: it's like, okay, I'm trying to talk to people about
- 52:36Speaker 5: why the Dodgers have him hitting leadoff. The leadoff hitter
- 52:40Speaker 5: throughout an entire course of a season, based on six
- 52:44Speaker 5: hundred at bats basically is gonna get thirteen point eight
- 52:47Speaker 5: three more at bats in an entire season. So they
- 52:52Speaker 5: want Shoho Tani to get fourteen more at bats in
- 52:55Speaker 5: the history of baseball, this is how it works out
- 52:57Speaker 5: for winning teams, for losing teams. Everything. They want him
- 53:00Speaker 5: to get fourteen more at bats. So maybe you could
- 53:02Speaker 5: hit pop two more home runs, which could push them
- 53:06Speaker 5: to you know, make a playoff bit or whatever it is.
- 53:10Speaker 5: Between the first hitter and the third hitter, it's twenty
- 53:16Speaker 5: eight at bats. So now that means a second hitter
- 53:19Speaker 5: and the third hitter, it's fifteen at bats, essentially around
- 53:22Speaker 5: the same for each spot in the lineup. But this
- 53:26Speaker 5: is why I think the Dodgers weren't winning World Series
- 53:30Speaker 5: the other times they were there. They were so reliant
- 53:33Speaker 5: on this certain number that, you know what, I think
- 53:36Speaker 5: we're gonna pull this guy after six innings. I think
- 53:38Speaker 5: we're going to pinch hit for Max Munsey here, even
- 53:44Speaker 5: though Max Munsey came on the show and said, hey,
- 53:46Speaker 5: you know what we're gonna do. We're gonna you know bat,
- 53:50Speaker 5: I'm gonna hit against more lefties. And what that does
- 53:53Speaker 5: is it keeps me on the ball longer. It helps
- 53:55Speaker 5: me get an opportunity to hit Righty's better know I'm
- 54:00Speaker 5: not hitting well against lefties. Get I'm just becoming a
- 54:03Speaker 5: better player, a better hitter. So to me, I think
- 54:06Speaker 5: the Dodgers should have looked at this because all these
- 54:09Speaker 5: numbers are out the window. It might be one at
- 54:11Speaker 5: bat that he doesn't get. Now it's too late. Now
- 54:14Speaker 5: you can't go and say, okay, we're gonna shift it.
- 54:16Speaker 5: But I think that's why they kept it around, and
- 54:18Speaker 5: I think it was probably the wrong decision if they
- 54:21Speaker 5: don't come back and win this World Series.
- 54:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think if they did make the decision
- 54:26Speaker 3: of changing Otani to second and Mochi the first base,
- 54:31Speaker 3: you can't look back and say, well, Dave Robertson do anything.
- 54:34Speaker 4: You can't look back and say, oh, that's why they lost.
- 54:36Speaker 3: So that's why I think this decision would be viewed
- 54:39Speaker 3: as okay, no matter what. And to Scott's point when
- 54:42Speaker 3: he talked about it, I don't know how many times
- 54:44Speaker 3: this happened, but when the nine batter led off in
- 54:46Speaker 3: the World Series, I don't think he got on base
- 54:49Speaker 3: one time for show heo Tani it was automatic one out,
- 54:52Speaker 3: or when eight and nine got up, it was two
- 54:54Speaker 3: out as he got up. And that's the last thing
- 54:56Speaker 3: you want moving forward. Now, Does it happen like that
- 54:59Speaker 3: all the time. No, it's been exploited in this World Series,
- 55:01Speaker 3: So again, I would not be surprised if he did it.
- 55:05Speaker 4: I would.
- 55:06Speaker 3: I think honestly it's the best move for the Dodgers.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Maybe get Mooki going again a little bit, put a
- 55:11Speaker 3: little pressure on him. Hey man, you're leading off. Let's
- 55:13Speaker 3: go be you know, be the straw that starts a drink,
- 55:16Speaker 3: per se and get us going. So and we'll talk
- 55:18Speaker 3: a little bit more about Mooki as we move forward here.
- 55:22Speaker 2: That's actually the perfect transition. We're gonna do that next segment,
- 55:26Speaker 2: Todd Father, that's part of the problem, all right, Mooki's
- 55:30Speaker 2: got a problem. He's gonna visit the office and find
- 55:33Speaker 2: out what's going on. Also, I will answer one quick
- 55:36Speaker 2: question for those asking if there is a Game seven,
- 55:40Speaker 2: we will do a postgame show, not a pregame show.
- 55:43Speaker 2: We'll set up Game seven in our Game six postgame show,
- 55:46Speaker 2: just letting you know if you're catching this later on,
- 55:48Speaker 2: if you're catching this now, I know there have been
- 55:49Speaker 2: a few questions in the chat toid Father. We want
- 56:02Speaker 2: to visit the Colorful Batman, Thodfather, we got a problem today. Okay,
- 56:08Speaker 2: So the Dodgers' offense has fallen apart lately, and specifically
- 56:15Speaker 2: one of their superstars can't figure it out. It's such
- 56:19Speaker 2: a problem that they had to do some lineup tweaking
- 56:22Speaker 2: that didn't work, although that might have been a different problem.
- 56:26Speaker 2: By the name of Trey Savage. We're trying to figure
- 56:29Speaker 2: out what to do in such a short period of time.
- 56:33Speaker 2: So if Mookie Bets had time right now, he would
- 56:36Speaker 2: have represented himself, But instead Kratz and I are representing
- 56:40Speaker 2: Muki as we visit the office and ask you, Todd father,
- 56:43Speaker 2: what he should do with one or two games left
- 56:47Speaker 2: to go, And at some point we'll mix in some
- 56:51Speaker 2: swing results from Mike Petriello and the stack Cast crew.
- 56:57Speaker 3: It might be a little too like talking about what
- 57:02Speaker 3: we need to do preparation and preparation's been there for
- 57:05Speaker 3: Moky Bets. He's worked his butt off, and he said
- 57:07Speaker 3: it's not a lack of effort. You know what, effort
- 57:09Speaker 3: can only take you so far. I mean, listen, Gratzy
- 57:13Speaker 3: understands he worked the hardest guy I've ever seen work
- 57:15Speaker 3: in his life. Sometimes it didn't pay off. Guess what.
- 57:19Speaker 3: He's in a slump. He can't find his way out
- 57:22Speaker 3: of it. His hands are dropping, He's seeing pitches that
- 57:25Speaker 3: he should be driving. You see the frustration. I'm frustrated
- 57:28Speaker 3: every day when I wake up and the weather's like
- 57:30Speaker 3: this windy. I don't like it. I don't like the rain.
- 57:33Speaker 3: I don't like any of that stuff. But guess what
- 57:35Speaker 3: we move on for Mooki bets, get your hands up.
- 57:39Speaker 3: How think about swinging down on the ball. That uppercut
- 57:43Speaker 3: swings not working, pop flies aren't working, and there's no
- 57:46Speaker 3: power behind it, and I think his hands are getting
- 57:48Speaker 3: away from his body. You got two games to prove
- 57:51Speaker 3: me wrong. Forget about the numbers. Throw the numbers out
- 57:54Speaker 3: the window, Cratsy Scotti, get the hands up. Think about
- 57:59Speaker 3: catching that ball out in front and hitting the ball
- 58:02Speaker 3: down and cutting the ball in half and watch the
- 58:04Speaker 3: backspin homers go out. I expect a big day from
- 58:08Speaker 3: you today, Mochi. It's going to go home, Bud.
- 58:11Speaker 4: That's all.
- 58:11Speaker 5: This is the best. This is the best. The problem
- 58:14Speaker 5: that I've ever seen, this was, I mean, your pace, everything,
- 58:18Speaker 5: the mask like I'm a little afraid of you. I'm
- 58:22Speaker 5: glad I'm not in Jersey today, Todd. But everybody needs
- 58:26Speaker 5: to listen to what Todd said. Todd didn't bring up
- 58:28Speaker 5: any of the numbers, and we're gonna get the Petriello's
- 58:31Speaker 5: you know, if we can even bring up Petrillo's graph
- 58:33Speaker 5: of his swing, I'm not even sure what the exact
- 58:37Speaker 5: wording is, but his swing angle. So we're talking about
- 58:41Speaker 5: degree and the fact that he's his attack angle is
- 58:46Speaker 5: thirteen percent. I'll be honest, I do not know the numbers.
- 58:50Speaker 5: What I do know is what Todd said. And people
- 58:54Speaker 5: are gonna say, well, how are you gonna hit the
- 58:56Speaker 5: ball up? If you don't swing up. You don't hit
- 59:00Speaker 5: the ball up because you swing up. You hit the
- 59:03Speaker 5: ball up because you make contact where Todd out in front,
- 59:09Speaker 5: out in front, you can. Todd's telling him to swing down. Yes,
- 59:14Speaker 5: the thought process has to be swinging down. Nobody's going
- 59:17Speaker 5: to swing down like this actually to the ball. What
- 59:21Speaker 5: happens is when you swing down, when you think about
- 59:25Speaker 5: swinging down, now, your first move with your hands is
- 59:28Speaker 5: this direction. Right now, the first move of his hands
- 59:32Speaker 5: is this direction. His hands are dropping. Maybe they're too
- 59:36Speaker 5: far out, maybe they're too close. Whatever it is, it's
- 59:39Speaker 5: causing his hands to drop, which is causing that thirteen
- 59:43Speaker 5: degree angle and causing the pop ups. The pop ups
- 59:47Speaker 5: are not he's not squaring these balls up. And the
- 59:50Speaker 5: reason he's not squaring them up is because the pitch
- 59:52Speaker 5: comes in on this path right here, and he's trying
- 59:56Speaker 5: to swing across that angle. When you swing down, your
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: swing path is now going with the same angle as
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: the pitch, and when you catch it out front, your
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: swing is starting to go up. So yes, you need
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: to go up to hit it. But when you're late
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: and popping every ball up, Mookie Bets could make a change.
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: If you're asking one of the other guys deeper in
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: this lineup to make a change, probably not Mookie Bets.
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: If he never knew anything about baseball, he could pick
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: up a bat and be like, you want me to
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: do what now? Oh, I'll do this. That's what's so
- 1:00:34Speaker 5: amazing about the fact that he's in this slump right now,
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: and it's not pressure. He's not folding under the pressure
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: or anything like this. It's just a tiny mechanical switch
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: that might feel like in his head he needs to
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: make a drastic change to get to where he needs
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: to be. But the thirteen percent, the thirteen degrees of
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: attack angle swing is telling me in numbers exactly what
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: my eyes have seen.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: One fan question here to jump in, Nico said, feel
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: like Bets adjusted his swing to try to hit the splitter,
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: and that obviously didn't work.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Now he's dipping his shoulder.
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: Okay, I yeah, go ahead, go ahead. Go ahead.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: No, I honestly think when you're in between, I don't
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: think he's adjusted his swing to the splitter. I just
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: think he's a little in between.
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: And when you.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: Struggle a little bit, all of a sudden, every pitch
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: to you looks like either one it's a strike or
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: the next pitch you're gonna get five hits out of
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: one swing. And that's just not gonna happen. That's just
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: being human and understanding that I'm struggling. I want to
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: try so hard to help my team. But if he's
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: looking for a splitter, then then he's not gonna be
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: able to hit too often anymore. That's not a pitch
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: you're not you're necessarily gonna look for because it's so
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: hard to throw a strike that that pitch.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: That pitch is an outpitch for most pictures, all.
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: Right, And and everything that everybody said here is all true,
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: Like that's the beauty of hitting is I'm not sure
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: who said this in the chat, but he said, and
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: he's dipping his shoulder. He's not trying to dip his
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: shoulder to try to hit a splitter. Is he dipping
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: his shoulder? Absolutely? But to me, you have to when
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: you go to a guy like Mookie Betts, you're not
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: going to a nine year old who's like, hey, you
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: know what, get your elbow up, you know, and do this.
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: You're going to Mookie Bets, who's an athlete. So it's
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: more in the lines of what Todd said of if
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: you're in between, you have no shot of hitting anything.
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: So you have to be fully committed and you're if
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: you are sitting on a splitter, you're cooked. You're not
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: catching up to the fastball. So the approach has to
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: be if this is the case, because we're only conjecture,
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: we're only saying what we see, and it's super easy
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: to sit on a couch and evaluate what we're seeing.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: But you have to say, I'm fully committed to the
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: fastball because because now I'm on time for the fastball
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: and know that anything down is going to be a splitter.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: So I'm not swinging at Mookie Betts looks like he's like,
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: I am so freaking good at everything that I do
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: that I can cover the fastball the splitter. And here
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: I go, oh, nope, that one wasn't it. Nope, Nope,
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: that one wasn't it. And Big League Pictures especially World Series.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: Big league pitchers are too good to be in between pitches.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: It was good exercise.
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: I like that.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I think problem solved now.
- 1:03:35Speaker 9: I don't know if the problem will actually be solved
- 1:03:37Speaker 9: in the game. But what I do mean, Todd father,
- 1:03:40Speaker 9: is we learned a lot.
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: Yeah, and if you're not learning, you're losing. That's my model, Todd.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: I will take care of whatever problem you need. I
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: mean today, like when you take your mask off, like,
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: I don't take you seriously. So for the rest of
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: the problems, maybe we'll mix in like less rainbow colors
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: on it. I need you to wear a mask because
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: your face is not very your face is not very intimidating.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: But that was the best the problem that I've seen
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: in our three years.
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: This thing's getting itchy too. I got maybe ten more
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: minutes of this and coming off, so you know, I
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: keep I keep moving it. I'm like, holy cow, here
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: we go.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: You're allowed.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: We got forty minutes left in show. So if you
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: want to reveal yourself at the end, as Batman.
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: Might, listen, listen, Scott. This might not be Todd Frazier here,
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: just letting you know when to take the mask off.
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: You never know.
- 1:04:35Speaker 9: I'm scared. Here we go, baby, let's slap.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: There is no cratz hats today?
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Where is there? Very nice?
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: Okay, so let's get to some questions here. We will
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: start with Neil in the chat, he said, are the
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Dodgers too reliant.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: On the long ball? God Father? Do you think that
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: their offense is to relyant on the long ball?
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: We have addressed over the past week how this team
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: led in a number of categories in the National League,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: like home runs and ops. They also went through a
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: pretty significant slump somewhat late in the season. Do you
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: think that overall their offense, from a player to player
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: is too home run reliant.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: I think there's a point to it, but I think
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: they're just struggling hitting. And I think what he's talking
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: about home run. Maybe they're thinking about getting that big
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: home run, but I think it just starts with getting
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: strikes to hit and getting pitches that you like to hit.
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: And for them, yeah, the home runs great, they do
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: it well.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: They have a lot of them, so I would say
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: yes and no. I think they do rely on it
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: a little bit too much. But I also think they're
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: just struggling on getting guys on base. And struggling to
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: get them in. So I would say, yes, that's part
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: of it. But secondly, they're not swinging that good pitches
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: to get the guys in when they have that opportunity.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: No, I would say, no, they're not too reliant. I
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: don't think anybody can. I don't think anybody can give
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: you who the second most. Who has the second most
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: home runs on the Dodgers, because when you think about
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: teams that rely on the home run, you think about
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: the Yankees. Jazz has plus thirty plus, Ben Rice had
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: a breakout year, Judge Bellinger, Andy Payes has the second
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: most number of home runs on the team. So I
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: while they hit a lot of home runs, I don't
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: think they're too reliant on it. They just are in
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: what Todd said, all slump.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: Yeah, like you think about Mookie, you think about Freddy.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: I wouldn't call those types of players hitting profile wise
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: with home run reliant. So good call there, good answer.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: I have a question World Series entertainment grade compared to
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: prior World Series matchups that you've watched. Right in these
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: first five games, how entertained are you? And we're going
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: with letter grades if this thing continues, the letter grade's
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: going to bump up automatically with a game seven. But
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Todd Father, what's your entertainment factor? Right, We've had some
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: close games, we had some not so close games. We
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: had one of the longest games.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: What do you think, Yeah, I mean out of the five,
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: I think really good. Yeah, I would say middle of
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: the pack. But we still have one more to go,
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: I'd say, and that be min that's C plus B
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: minus range. I think it's fantastic that you got Toronto
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: in and La being the favorite, and it looks like
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: Toronto's taking care of it and almost finishing them off
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: in the World Series. I think that'll help bringer my
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: grade up. But again, you know, there's been a couple
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: of games of one run from the Dodgers that you
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: know been subpar, so the Dodgers could pick it up
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: a little bit the great and we go a lot
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: higher too, so you know, you know the Blue Jays
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: are gonna be right there.
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: They've been fantastic.
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: I disagree. I think it's a I think it's an
- 1:08:07Speaker 5: A minus series. I do when you have an eighteen
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: inning game, you have a historic length of a game.
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: I think it's when you have when you have the
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: narrative already written. Let's say you go to a movie
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: and you're like, oh, I know how this is gonna end,
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: and then they just they flip it. What, No way,
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: the Blue Jays are winning free to two, We're going
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: back to Toronto. No way. Yeah, obviously, Shohotani's gonna do
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: his thing, Vladimir Guerrero's gonna do his thing. But when
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: the script doesn't go the way everybody planned it, I
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: can't not give it an A. I'm gonna give it
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: an A minus right now because if it if it
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: ends in a game seven, then I think I'm I'm
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: solid A range, and I think I'm probably in the minority.
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: I don't think it's been boring because I haven't gotten
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: any sleep through these six game five games that they've played,
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: and I haven't fallen asleep once, so I disagree. I
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: think this has been an awesome series.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: For me. I'm I'll go B plus.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: So if we get to a game seven, you're automatically
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: getting into the A grade. Depending on how Game six goes,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: that could bump it up to the A grade. I'm
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: pretty close to that as range. The thing that comes
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: to mind for me is yet we're not in multiple
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: walkoffs or one run games, right. The eighteen Ning Marathon
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: obviously was a one run game. Most of the rest
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: of the final scores have been lopsided, but they've still
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: been good games. For example, the last game was not
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: a fun watch for Dodgers fans, but it was a
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: fun watch for most of the rest of baseball fans.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: Of course, it was a fun watch for Blue Jays fans.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: We got to watch Trey A Savage dominate like that,
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: and if you go further back, we got to see
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: a CG which we never see in games like this anymore.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: We hadn't seen one in about a decade when Johnny
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: Quato put that together. So those two games alone, despite
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: not being close there right, still super entertaining in my mind.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: B plus but pretty good chance it's gonna at least
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: get itself to an A minus. And if we got
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: a game seven that then you're dipping into a if
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: not a plus territory. Baby, we have a postgame show
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: after tonight's game six. Krats will be there, maybe as grew,
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Maybe as Krats I would show up just to figure
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: that part out alone, and Buck Showalter will join us
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: for the manager perspective. He'll slice and dice all the
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: moves and tell us who did what right, who did
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: what wrong? Game six live on the ft YouTube channel right.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: After will be us.
