While Abraham Lincoln tolerated Mary's peculiar, extravagant, and sometimes irrational and angry behavior, their son Robert - not so much. In 1875, ten years after Lincoln's assassination, the president's son, in more or less an ambush, had his mother committed to an insane asylum.
