- 0:05Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where the.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Plays get broken down and science gets denied. The Bitch
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench, Live from the Mercedes
- 0:14Speaker 1: Benz Baton Rouge Studio starts now.
- 0:23Speaker 3: All right then, welcome back, Yeah OTV here on this
- 0:25Speaker 3: Wednesday morning. Jake Flynn, Alandre Tata all here with you,
- 0:31Speaker 3: and it has been too long. Very excited for our
- 0:34Speaker 3: next guest. It is former l s U pitcher and
- 0:38Speaker 3: first baseman, mister Austin Bain. The Bain train joined the
- 0:42Speaker 3: show boys. How we do it? We're doing great man.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Excited to have you back on the show. Us three
- 0:49Speaker 3: have done a lot of radio together now typically we
- 0:52Speaker 3: did it when the sun was going down. We did
- 0:55Speaker 3: we did it, We did it. I think it was
- 0:57Speaker 3: very memorable radio. But you know, for old time's sake,
- 1:01Speaker 3: Austin to kind of lead off this discussion, I feel
- 1:04Speaker 3: like you should tell the people for about sixty seconds
- 1:06Speaker 3: about ladder in Bloom.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Oh god, dude, I'm having PTSD again. My hands are
- 1:12Speaker 4: sweating right now. I don't want to do this.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Look, Jake was like, I don't I don't even think
- 1:18Speaker 2: he'll remember it. And I was like, oh, he'll remember it.
- 1:20Speaker 2: He's got he still has nightmares.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Yeah, it's ingrained in my brain. You know, I can't.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I can't go a day without thinking about it.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Austin, if it makes you feel better now that Flynn,
- 1:31Speaker 3: because Flynn didn't have to do those back then. I mean,
- 1:33Speaker 3: he was always on, but he never had to do
- 1:35Speaker 3: him You actually, like you sold it and you did
- 1:38Speaker 3: something and people were paying you to have your takes
- 1:41Speaker 3: on the radio. He has to do it now. And
- 1:44Speaker 3: let me just tell you, he is in the same
- 1:46Speaker 3: situation that you were in, So don't let him try
- 1:49Speaker 3: to talk too much trash to you.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we're getting a lot, We're getting practiced. It's kind
- 1:53Speaker 2: of a thing right now, babe. It's like we actually
- 1:55Speaker 2: have the people in the chat giving me, like ranking
- 1:57Speaker 2: them after I'm done so, but we've we're anywhere between
- 2:01Speaker 2: a one out of ten to ten out of ten.
- 2:02Speaker 2: It's it's real hit or miss right now.
- 2:04Speaker 4: At least they're giving you ten out of ten.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah, actually those are few and far between.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And see, the biggest problem with it is as you're
- 2:12Speaker 4: doing the library, you just see Jacob staring at you
- 2:15Speaker 4: the whole time, and you know that he's just going
- 2:18Speaker 4: to grill you after. So I was like, oh, I
- 2:21Speaker 4: need to get this over with.
- 2:22Speaker 3: You did great, I mean, you know, thanks cousin, Jake,
- 2:25Speaker 3: and then you'd go right into it.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I was I was yet att know this.
- 2:30Speaker 4: I was practicing at home. It may not have shown,
- 2:33Speaker 4: but I was in front of the mirror trying to
- 2:35Speaker 4: make it work, and that I just couldn't do it.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Sometime does not layoff. Look we did, man, we had.
- 2:41Speaker 3: We had a lot of fun on hanging with Hester. Certainly,
- 2:44Speaker 3: it's good to have you back on man. Miss. You
- 2:46Speaker 3: being around Baton rouge wy, don't you tell the people
- 2:48Speaker 3: kind of what you're up to since they, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 3: last heard from you, which has now been years ago.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, I moved away. I moved up to Shreveport,
- 2:58Speaker 4: near Jake's homeland. Yeah, that was only a couple of
- 3:01Speaker 4: months now living in Oxford, Mississippi. H went from medical
- 3:05Speaker 4: sales to now work for a developer. I'm in enemy territory. Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 4: And I always tell people, I was like, you know what,
- 3:11Speaker 4: I kind of liked the old miss until I moved
- 3:13Speaker 4: here and then I was told how much they hate us. Yeah,
- 3:16Speaker 4: I'm like, you know what, y'all kind of stuck too.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, no doubt got it? How like, man, you
- 3:21Speaker 3: I mean you were in the thick of it, like,
- 3:23Speaker 3: not only are you like living where the enemy is,
- 3:26Speaker 3: like when you live in a small town where the
- 3:29Speaker 3: enemy is, like you're probably the guy that stands out
- 3:31Speaker 3: like a sore thumb because like you're the LSU guy
- 3:35Speaker 3: Ole Miss loves their baseball and so I'm sure you
- 3:38Speaker 3: get it double what typically someone would get in enemy territory.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it doesn't help that I wear purple a lot,
- 3:45Speaker 4: but yeah, no, no, no, I get worn out when I
- 3:48Speaker 4: was in hospitals, they would they knew, and it was, uh,
- 3:53Speaker 4: it really opened my eyes to Old Miss fans, I
- 3:56Speaker 4: should say. Now, I say that as a generalization, not
- 4:00Speaker 4: all bad, you know, yeah, but they hate us, man,
- 4:03Speaker 4: And I didn't know that. I had no idea that
- 4:05Speaker 4: they didn't like us like that.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I know. It is one of those weird deals. Awesome
- 4:09Speaker 3: because kind of the same situation for me as well,
- 4:12Speaker 3: Like I'll meet somebody and I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 3: I know I got to play football for Old Miss
- 4:16Speaker 3: Bold big rival of awesome, like not really like not
- 4:18Speaker 3: for me, like not for me, Like I don't I
- 4:20Speaker 3: don't think of Old Miss like that because like we
- 4:22Speaker 3: beat them every year that we were in school, and
- 4:24Speaker 3: LSU's record over Old Miss and football and baseball, and
- 4:28Speaker 3: so that's like like not me trying to throw shaded
- 4:30Speaker 3: Old Miss. But it's just like, uh, you know, from
- 4:32Speaker 3: maybe a generation before, because I'm the same way. I'm like, man,
- 4:34Speaker 3: I didn't know y'all hated us like that.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, it just caught me off guard. And I
- 4:39Speaker 4: like a lot of the people up here, A lot
- 4:41Speaker 4: of people are nice, but when they find out that
- 4:43Speaker 4: you believe purple and Gold, it's just they look at
- 4:45Speaker 4: you different.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, they guess the old saying they hate us because
- 4:49Speaker 2: they ain't us.
- 4:50Speaker 4: That's right.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Uh huh, all right, Bane, let's uh, let's focus a
- 4:54Speaker 2: little bit here on LSU baseball. Tell us about that.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Yeah, good luck.
- 4:59Speaker 4: But I thought this was like nighttime mindset. Yeah sports.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Well, they have forced me to start watching some baseball
- 5:10Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago. So hey, you would be
- 5:12Speaker 2: proud of our boy.
- 5:13Speaker 3: You would be proud of our boy like he is
- 5:15Speaker 3: truly you know, locked in as much as he can.
- 5:19Speaker 3: He's learning the names, he knows the lineup. You'd be
- 5:22Speaker 3: proud of it.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Look, my kids fell asleep last night to Arkansas versus
- 5:26Speaker 2: u C l A. They fell asleep. Yeah, so like
- 5:29Speaker 2: we're we're in Flynn's our baseball peeps. Yep, all right,
- 5:33Speaker 2: So well just tell us about we had heard from
- 5:36Speaker 2: me from a long time. So tell us about like
- 5:38Speaker 2: this LSU team, what you've seen from him up to
- 5:40Speaker 2: this point, how they've regular season, going through regional super
- 5:44Speaker 2: regions to the point where they are now, and yeah,
- 5:47Speaker 2: just what's your thoughts about the DNA of this.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Team, man. I think that our pitching staff is lights out,
- 5:55Speaker 4: and I think that's what carried us through the regional superachals.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I say that we had some high scoring games, but
- 6:03Speaker 4: whenever we left SEC tournament, I think it was kind
- 6:05Speaker 4: of a feeling of a batch being cold, and they
- 6:09Speaker 4: turned it around completely. I mean, the guys are seeing
- 6:12Speaker 4: the ball, great pitchers come out doing their job, and
- 6:15Speaker 4: I think, you know, we're one of the top pitching
- 6:16Speaker 4: staffs in the nation. And then having Kate Anderson go
- 6:20Speaker 4: out give seven innings in that first game like that,
- 6:23Speaker 4: that's huge and then you know, INSI in getting him
- 6:28Speaker 4: for possibly the next game or the first game of
- 6:31Speaker 4: the series if we make it right there. It's it's
- 6:36Speaker 4: just nice having depth. And one thing that I've realized
- 6:39Speaker 4: too is I feel like everybody throws a hundred down
- 6:41Speaker 4: right true. Like when I was there, we had like
- 6:45Speaker 4: one guy in SEC and he was montesde Okay, he
- 6:47Speaker 4: was like six foot seven and three hundred pounds and
- 6:50Speaker 4: he threw a hundred. Now and now everybody's throwing it.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Chase Shores is absolutely electric. He's fun to watch a lot,
- 6:59Speaker 4: you know. But having those older guys in the lineup,
- 7:02Speaker 4: Bear Jones, you know, Fry, all those guys, it's it's
- 7:06Speaker 4: really it's you don't care about who's up in any
- 7:09Speaker 4: situation because anybody can get the job done. So I'm
- 7:13Speaker 4: very fired up about this team and what they're gonna
- 7:15Speaker 4: be able to do.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and then it's very interesting to what Jay does
- 7:20Speaker 3: today knowing that, look, you never want to like have
- 7:23Speaker 3: oh we can lose this game and we still get
- 7:25Speaker 3: to play another one, Like you don't have that mindset,
- 7:27Speaker 3: But like how he approaches this game today, Austin, because
- 7:31Speaker 3: like you're gonna have a decision to make on who
- 7:34Speaker 3: starts the game for you, and you're gonna have different options.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Is it Jaye Nude who has started games in the
- 7:38Speaker 3: past this season and kind of been in these spots before.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Is it gonna be Zach Cowen, who hasn't been really
- 7:43Speaker 3: in these spots in an LSU uniform, but he was
- 7:46Speaker 3: in a Watford uniform, and the only time he did
- 7:48Speaker 3: it in the LSU uniform in regional play, it didn't
- 7:51Speaker 3: go well against Little Rock, And so, like the decision
- 7:54Speaker 3: that Jay has to make, it's not an easy one,
- 7:57Speaker 3: but he does have.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Options, and I think the biggest thing he can kind
- 8:02Speaker 4: of take more of a risk because now Arkansas has
- 8:06Speaker 4: to beat us twice. So maybe now is the time
- 8:09Speaker 4: that you can take some of the more riskier play
- 8:12Speaker 4: to possibly say pitching for the series if we beat
- 8:16Speaker 4: Arkansas the first game, you know, But then if if
- 8:19Speaker 4: you do take too big of a risk and then
- 8:21Speaker 4: now we're playing them again, we're burning more arms. H
- 8:25Speaker 4: So I'm not sure what he should do. You know,
- 8:28Speaker 4: It's it's gonna be a tough call regardless, but I
- 8:32Speaker 4: think we're in the driver's seat right now, so I'm
- 8:34Speaker 4: I'm just excited to watch.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Awesome. What's the what's your take on the LSU lineup
- 8:42Speaker 2: right now? The like to me just watching learning like
- 8:46Speaker 2: the thens and outs of baseball. Like to me, they've
- 8:48Speaker 2: played this one has been incredible. They've you know, Curry
- 8:50Speaker 2: l is an incredible at bats so hard to get out.
- 8:53Speaker 2: But Steven MYLM, he has played incredible. I want to
- 8:57Speaker 2: know your thoughts on him because like, defensively he is
- 8:59Speaker 2: he he's a dude, but that he seems like such
- 9:03Speaker 2: a tough out right now, just tell like, tell us
- 9:06Speaker 2: that what he a guy like that kind of means
- 9:09Speaker 2: to the whole roster in the lineup.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Man, I love his the swagger about him. He's a
- 9:16Speaker 4: switch hitter, so right handed, left handed, he's gonna do fine.
- 9:20Speaker 4: I love him baton left handed. But what what stands
- 9:23Speaker 4: out about his game is he's up in so many
- 9:25Speaker 4: situations and delivers whenever it's needed with runners in scoring position,
- 9:30Speaker 4: you know, after walks, things like that. He steps up
- 9:33Speaker 4: in big time situations and and comes through, which is
- 9:38Speaker 4: a big confidence booster for the team in general. As
- 9:40Speaker 4: a leader, you know, as a guy standing next to you,
- 9:44Speaker 4: he's just fun to watch. Man, You get the Tiger
- 9:46Speaker 4: stripes on the hair. It's something about Omaha and L
- 9:49Speaker 4: s U L s U. Tiger's doing stuff with their hair,
- 9:52Speaker 4: you know, from Kramer Robertson dying it to now myleam
- 9:54Speaker 4: with the tiger stripes. It Uh, he's just fun to watch,
- 9:59Speaker 4: ye yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Man, he has certainly turned it up here in the postseason.
- 10:03Speaker 3: H man. It you know, omahall is so special. It's
- 10:08Speaker 3: it's a place that you know, you dream of going
- 10:11Speaker 3: and like y'all have this place and like we didn't
- 10:13Speaker 3: have this in football, but like for baseball players Austin,
- 10:15Speaker 3: like y'all worked to get to Omaha and you know
- 10:19Speaker 3: something that I know you experienced as well, Like what
- 10:22Speaker 3: is what's the environment? I guess like in that situation,
- 10:26Speaker 3: in that setting, knowing that like you have the best
- 10:28Speaker 3: fan base in the country as far as one that's
- 10:30Speaker 3: going to travel to that location. But you know, just
- 10:34Speaker 3: from watching it on TV and even being in the crowd,
- 10:37Speaker 3: like it's special, Like you get goosebumps thinking about it.
- 10:40Speaker 3: But like as a player, when you've played in what
- 10:42Speaker 3: a lot of us consider the best college baseball stadium
- 10:45Speaker 3: in America in the box, but what's it like going
- 10:48Speaker 3: to Omaha, Like, how different truly is it when you're
- 10:51Speaker 3: playing on the field.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Man, It's it's definitely special. And I think the coolest
- 10:57Speaker 4: part of our being a part of the LSU community
- 11:00Speaker 4: is how well they travel and how well they support
- 11:02Speaker 4: the team and everything. You go to Omaha, like in
- 11:05Speaker 4: twenty twenty three when we went and I drove up
- 11:08Speaker 4: for the series, it was full of purple and gold everywhere.
- 11:12Speaker 4: It was just I've never seen anything like it. And
- 11:16Speaker 4: that's that's the kind of support you get from the fans.
- 11:18Speaker 4: That's how many fans there are of LSU because because
- 11:21Speaker 4: the program is that amazing, it's it's it's a very
- 11:26Speaker 4: professional feeling. You know, you get the opening ceremonies, you
- 11:31Speaker 4: walk out at night with the fireworks going, the stands
- 11:35Speaker 4: are full, go out to batting practice, the whole stands
- 11:38Speaker 4: are full as you're shagging or hitting VP. It's just
- 11:42Speaker 4: a very professional feeling, and it like transcends college where
- 11:46Speaker 4: now it feels like you're at the next level. You know,
- 11:49Speaker 4: you've got a stadium that holds what twenty eight thirty
- 11:51Speaker 4: thousand people, You're just it's huge, it feels big. So
- 11:57Speaker 4: it's it's a you know, once in a lifetime opportunity
- 12:01Speaker 4: some of these guys have, and it's it's it's an
- 12:04Speaker 4: incredible experience. So I've now gotten to go as a
- 12:08Speaker 4: player and a fan, and I'll tell you what, being
- 12:12Speaker 4: a fan is just as much fun.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I believe it.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Yeah, go to Rocos. Support the team a little bit.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Get on the board.
- 12:21Speaker 2: How many Jello shots? Yeah?
- 12:22Speaker 3: I mean yeah, Well, I mean we bought on a budget.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I mean, do we, you know, spend some cash has
- 12:26Speaker 3: support the Tigers? What do we do at Rocos?
- 12:29Speaker 4: Uh? You haven't heard about the Jelo shots?
- 12:31Speaker 3: Right? No, I don't know how much you Yeah, but
- 12:35Speaker 3: you know you said support the Tigers. We buy eight
- 12:38Speaker 3: yellow shots? We buy you know, I'm a hand. Did
- 12:41Speaker 3: did you delete a dozen of them?
- 12:44Speaker 4: I'll confess I didn't buy any, but but that's because
- 12:49Speaker 4: the person like five minutes before me bought a thousand
- 12:51Speaker 4: and they were passing them around from trade. So it's like,
- 12:54Speaker 4: what am I going to do? Like give me two?
- 12:56Speaker 3: You know too?
- 13:02Speaker 4: Like nah, I'll just take one of the forty on
- 13:04Speaker 4: this tray and then I'm good to go.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Okay, I do want to ask you, so you talked
- 13:08Speaker 2: about how special of the place Omaha is, like playing
- 13:11Speaker 2: in that stadium a professional environment. But talk about like
- 13:14Speaker 2: the mindset that a player has knowing that a team
- 13:18Speaker 2: that you've beaten already multiple times in a season has
- 13:22Speaker 2: to come in and beat you twice. We know, like
- 13:24Speaker 2: from from a coaching standpoint, there's it's a different philosophy
- 13:28Speaker 2: from you know, when you use pitchers and how you
- 13:30Speaker 2: set up the game. But from a players standpoint, does
- 13:33Speaker 2: anything change because we talk about it, like beating a
- 13:36Speaker 2: team twice in football, being a good team twice is tough,
- 13:40Speaker 2: like mentally so from a baseball standpoint, but knowing that
- 13:43Speaker 2: they have to beat you twice, do you play a
- 13:45Speaker 2: little bit more loose or is it just like let's
- 13:48Speaker 2: it's it's another game, put our hat on and let's
- 13:50Speaker 2: go play.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Man, I think it is just it's another game, put
- 13:56Speaker 4: the hat on, let's go play. Because you know, as
- 13:58Speaker 4: much as there is I guess you know, somewhat animosity
- 14:01Speaker 4: between LSU and Arkansas and baseball, at least we respect
- 14:07Speaker 4: the hell out of their program. They you know, they're
- 14:10Speaker 4: highly ranked for a reason. They're very talented. You know,
- 14:13Speaker 4: if you get a little two loose, they can sneak
- 14:16Speaker 4: up on you, and then you're going into a game
- 14:18Speaker 4: game three with them with the momentum in their favor.
- 14:21Speaker 4: So I think, you know, these guys know how important
- 14:23Speaker 4: this game is. We do have another game to play
- 14:26Speaker 4: if we lose, but we don't want to get to that,
- 14:29Speaker 4: so we need to handle business now. I think that
- 14:32Speaker 4: everybody knows what's at stake here. They know what they
- 14:35Speaker 4: need to do. They've they've got their mind on the
- 14:39Speaker 4: on the big picture, and I think Jay Johnson's directs
- 14:41Speaker 4: them in that in that way, so I think I
- 14:44Speaker 4: don't think they're going to overlook them. And man, it's baseball.
- 14:48Speaker 4: You know, anything can happen. You see all these teams.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Murray State made a run at it, So I think
- 14:55Speaker 4: you just got to take it one game at a time.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Don't even let the next game get in your head
- 14:59Speaker 4: at all.
- 15:01Speaker 3: All Right, Austin, you were somebody that threw one hundred
- 15:04Speaker 3: and thirty innings in college. You also had two hundred
- 15:07Speaker 3: and fifty four abs, and so obviously you've got experience
- 15:11Speaker 3: on the mound and in the batter's box. If you
- 15:15Speaker 3: had your choice, you had to come into the game
- 15:18Speaker 3: because you know, last year of your career, you had
- 15:20Speaker 3: four says. If you had to come into the game
- 15:23Speaker 3: ninth inning to shut the door, or you came up
- 15:27Speaker 3: to the plate with a chance to win the game
- 15:31Speaker 3: two outs. It's up to you which one you're choose in?
- 15:39Speaker 4: Which one would I enjoy more? Or which one do
- 15:41Speaker 4: I think I could succeed in?
- 15:44Speaker 2: What do you pick it?
- 15:44Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean yeah, I mean, what are you succeeding? Like,
- 15:47Speaker 3: which one are you?
- 15:48Speaker 1: Like?
- 15:48Speaker 2: All right?
- 15:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, call me number eighteen. I'm there.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Oh man, that's actually a good question. Probably pitching, okay,
- 16:00Speaker 4: because I you know, I've done that my whole life,
- 16:03Speaker 4: and but damn dude, it would be so cool to
- 16:06Speaker 4: come in hitting in the bottom of the ninth and
- 16:09Speaker 4: get that opportunity. So that's a tough question. I think
- 16:11Speaker 4: I would succeed at pitching. I think I would rather.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Hit, all right, there you go Switzerland cover.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, seems like I would crush both, like either way.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Yeah, well, yeah, I would be right center gap all day.
- 16:30Speaker 4: But like you're asking a pitcher, like if you'd rather
- 16:33Speaker 4: pitcher hit? Like, that's that's a tough question. Every pitcher
- 16:36Speaker 4: wants to hit.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you know, yes, you're a pitcher, but
- 16:40Speaker 3: you also led the SEC in doubles your your last year.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Once you know, Paul got smart and lets you start
- 16:45Speaker 3: swinging the bat man.
- 16:47Speaker 4: I wish you'd have told him junior year. I would
- 16:51Speaker 4: do anything to go back to junior year twenty seventeen
- 16:54Speaker 4: and swing the swing the stick a little bit.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Yeah, Paul, Paul's definitely listening South Ceriah. Yeah, no question.
- 17:01Speaker 4: I'm drinking a cup of coffee right now, sitting on
- 17:04Speaker 4: his porch.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Well, you know, Austin, I really wanted to let you
- 17:07Speaker 3: back in twenty seventeen, but it just wasn't in the cards.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Yeah. I wish you'd have came in there and told
- 17:11Speaker 4: me you're an athlete.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Oh you recruited me. I mean you saw what I
- 17:18Speaker 3: was doing in high school a dutchdown. What are you
- 17:20Speaker 3: doing here? I know? I know, man, shut up all
- 17:25Speaker 3: Austin Man, this is a lot of fun. We'll have
- 17:27Speaker 3: to do it again soon. Best of luck in Oxford, Mississippi.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Like I knew that was where you were living, but
- 17:34Speaker 3: you know, when you say it out loud, it makes
- 17:35Speaker 3: it even worse. So enjoy that and good luck.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Absolutely, man, it was a good talk.
- 17:39Speaker 3: To you guys, absolutely as well. There he is our guy,
- 17:41Speaker 3: Austin Baine, who used to co host with us on
- 17:44Speaker 3: Hanging with Hester when radio got weird from six to
- 17:47Speaker 3: eight pm.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I wish you would have told me you were an athlete.
- 17:51Speaker 3: So good, Okay, So with Austin saying it that quick
- 17:55Speaker 3: and it sounded like something Paul would say, that definitely happened.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Oh for sure, that definitely thought about it multiple times.
- 18:03Speaker 3: I wish you would have told me you were an athlete, Paul.
- 18:05Speaker 3: You recruited me, my guy, It's not my fault, Austin.
- 18:08Speaker 3: He didn't tell me. I mean, look, he hit. Paul
- 18:14Speaker 3: just had this guy on the bench like that. He
- 18:16Speaker 3: came in and he was starting some games, started six
- 18:18Speaker 3: games his freshman year on the mound, actually pitched well,
- 18:23Speaker 3: had under four e fifty four innings, pitch fifty six strikeouts,
- 18:28Speaker 3: you know. But then like his junior year that Austin
- 18:30Speaker 3: was talking about, he only pitched twenty four innings and
- 18:33Speaker 3: didn't hit. And then Paul lets him hit and he
- 18:36Speaker 3: hits three eleven on base percentage of three eighty two,
- 18:41Speaker 3: twenty one doubles, forty two RBIs, three home runs. Yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 3: I wish you'd have told me you're an athlete.
- 18:50Speaker 2: A couple of good quotes say of Austin talking about
- 18:53Speaker 2: the jellow shots, I'll take two.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that long side though, when I asked him that question,
- 18:57Speaker 3: oh my god, yeah, I heard him away from the microphone.
- 19:03Speaker 2: That was a good way to start, well, to tease,
- 19:07Speaker 2: would you rather?
- 19:09Speaker 3: Would you rather Wednesday? When we come back here on
- 19:12Speaker 3: OTV top the bench, go to Central Plumbing dot org.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Central Plumbing. I mean, that's si man, that that question.

- 20:33Speaker 1: This is off the Bench with Hester and Flynn Baton
- 20:36Speaker 1: Rouge's go to for all things Louisiana Sports.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Bob talked about Breathe talking about the All American playing
- 21:00Speaker 2: at their headquarters. Have you seen their headlines recently rejects?
- 21:06Speaker 3: Well, I.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Had neither, but I started seeing some videos that apparently
- 21:12Speaker 2: making like a comeback.
- 21:13Speaker 6: Like tour the house parties, house parties.
- 21:16Speaker 2: They're like showing up randomly to the backyards like frat parties,
- 21:19Speaker 2: house parties, like unannounced. They're just showing up and saying, Hey,
- 21:22Speaker 2: we're all American rejects. Can we just play a concert?
- 21:25Speaker 6: Like duh video a concert?
- 21:27Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's like, is that the most brilliant way
- 21:31Speaker 2: for a band like All American rejects that do come back?
- 21:34Speaker 5: So they're like a couple of Uh, like jelly Roll,
- 21:38Speaker 5: you know, like the country or jelly Roll. I don't
- 21:40Speaker 5: know if he's like country rock whatever. They the way
- 21:45Speaker 5: that he got popular, he would play like in backyards
- 21:49Speaker 5: and like just invite a bunch of random people and
- 21:52Speaker 5: then they're they're doing that with Dre or what's his name,
- 21:56Speaker 5: Drake May.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Yeah, Drake May.
- 22:00Speaker 6: No, it's like an up and coming one.
- 22:02Speaker 5: So he went to l s U and he played
- 22:05Speaker 5: out like frat houses and then he was like, I'm
- 22:07Speaker 5: playing at the Texas Club tonight, so like all the
- 22:09Speaker 5: frat people.
- 22:12Speaker 2: But that's like for like trying to make a name
- 22:14Speaker 2: for yourself, like America reject everybody.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Trying to make a comeback. I guess.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Yeah, the classic country and Western music artist jelly Roll.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Yeah he is great.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm saying that just you didn't roll off the
- 22:29Speaker 2: tongue country.
- 22:31Speaker 3: In weide jelly Roll actually accent and actually sight Jlly Roll.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Oh I sld jelly Roll down the.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Street sounds like Austin's accent.
- 22:46Speaker 6: Drake Milligan is who I was thinking of. Okay, he's
- 22:49Speaker 6: really good.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 2: He went on, Uh, America's got talent. I think that
- 22:56Speaker 2: was the show. He went on too.
- 22:57Speaker 5: He's he's good speaking of I cannot believe that you
- 23:02Speaker 5: didn't know who Blue October.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Was, no idea. Still don't you.
- 23:05Speaker 6: Didn't Did you listen to the song? I said, And
- 23:07Speaker 6: you didn't know that song?
- 23:09Speaker 3: I know that song.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I know.
- 23:10Speaker 3: I told you Blonde Spot.
- 23:11Speaker 7: I guess there was a there was a way better
- 23:13Speaker 7: chance of you knowing than me. I went and listen
- 23:15Speaker 7: to it too.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 23:16Speaker 6: But maybe I'm the only one that was Blue October
- 23:18Speaker 6: their a Texas band. Oh okay, I didn't know that.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I know the movie Red October, Hunt for Red October,
- 23:24Speaker 2: Hunt for Red October. Yeah, that's the only hunt.
- 23:28Speaker 6: Was in that movie.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I've never yeah.
- 23:37Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because they were on my flight.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Already turned it into T Bob to get their autograph.
- 23:44Speaker 5: No, I didn't even I'm not even going to go
- 23:47Speaker 5: up to them and be like, hey, you.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Can get autograph.
- 23:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, did they announce it or like, did
- 23:52Speaker 7: you reconnize?
- 23:53Speaker 5: No, like he had aver they had a Pelican case
- 24:01Speaker 5: and it said Blue October. And then I looked at
- 24:03Speaker 5: him and I was like, oh.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Yeah, that is I don't know about the Pelican cases. Bruh.
- 24:06Speaker 6: Yeah, Hey, I know I know about the guns around.
- 24:10Speaker 6: They're very heavy.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Some guns is the word?
- 24:13Speaker 2: Look it up?
- 24:14Speaker 3: All right, do we want to do? Would you rather
- 24:17Speaker 3: like each get a question in before we get the
- 24:18Speaker 3: Ben mince Yep?
- 24:21Speaker 2: Sure?
- 24:21Speaker 3: All right. Well, I mean you were the one that
- 24:23Speaker 3: was excited about it all started all Would you rather
- 24:26Speaker 3: play an entire game in freezing snow or a game
- 24:30Speaker 3: in a hundred degree heat with eighty percent humidity?
- 24:34Speaker 7: Degree heat, It's hard to run in snow, man, I go,
- 24:39Speaker 7: We're going to.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Go with one hundred degree with eighty percent humidity. My
- 24:42Speaker 3: last game in Denver was negative seven, and it was
- 24:48Speaker 3: the worst thing of all time. If everything hurts, that's
- 24:51Speaker 3: not football weather. Football weathers when you're out there sweating
- 24:54Speaker 3: your ass off.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Yeah. I hate when people say that. They're like, this
- 24:57Speaker 2: is their weather. They guy, go ahead, that's not go ahead.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Green Bay football was not created in the heat. It
- 25:05Speaker 2: was created cold. No, it was not right. So guess
- 25:08Speaker 2: what y'all are all wrong and dumb for that take,
- 25:11Speaker 2: because freezing cold is where it's at.
- 25:13Speaker 3: It changes in both oh I played in Denver and
- 25:16Speaker 3: San Diego.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but snow changed, doesn't.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Oh Now, negative seven.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Is not it seems like it's pretty cold. We used
- 25:29Speaker 2: to hope that it was snowing, like no, we used
- 25:33Speaker 2: to hope that it was like below like twenty for
- 25:36Speaker 2: the game instead of in between like twenty and thirty two,
- 25:39Speaker 2: because it was below twenty and usually it was not
- 25:43Speaker 2: snow and the snow would mountain, it wouldn't be wet
- 25:45Speaker 2: out there. But you know what, it is always wet
- 25:49Speaker 2: when it's hot and humid, and as a thrower, you
- 25:51Speaker 2: don't want that. That's the easiest question you've ever asked.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Such a bad take, y'all are terrible for that one. Yeah, three, four,
- 25:58Speaker 3: respect a.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Right, would you rather spend all day in tennis shoes
- 26:05Speaker 2: with wet socks or no socks? No socks?
- 26:08Speaker 3: Wet socks? Yeah, wet socks just because like, well, you're
- 26:13Speaker 3: hanging in a blister either way. But your feed are
- 26:15Speaker 3: gonna smell like ass sticky.
- 26:19Speaker 2: You're gonna pull your foot out of the shoe and
- 26:20Speaker 2: the sole is gonna come with it. Yeah, yeah, no,
- 26:23Speaker 2: that happens.
- 26:24Speaker 3: It's a tag team situation. Yeah, when you do.
- 26:28Speaker 2: That, for sure, what sock?
- 26:30Speaker 3: I just feel weird, man, I just I've been I've
- 26:34Speaker 3: been in line like airport security when somebody takes your
- 26:37Speaker 3: their shoes off and they don't got their raw dog
- 26:39Speaker 3: in it, And I'm like, man, I can I can
- 26:42Speaker 3: smell from a mile away what that smells.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Like immediately socks shoes with no socks on.
- 26:48Speaker 3: It's like it's a psycho moved.
- 26:50Speaker 2: It's a cringe worthy thing. Like it gives me. Maybe
- 26:52Speaker 2: gis thinking about it to me too, that's I used
- 26:55Speaker 2: to have it. So I used to have a teammate
- 26:57Speaker 2: in high school who's a receiver who played foot all
- 27:00Speaker 2: with those socks on with his cleats. That's psychopath. I
- 27:04Speaker 2: wouldn't be surprised, you know what he did in his life.
- 27:08Speaker 3: I know, And maybe like you and I, like we
- 27:10Speaker 3: have spent so many times playing football with wet.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Socks, just get wet.
- 27:14Speaker 3: You just get used to it, especially.
- 27:15Speaker 2: In the heat that like the heat that you love
- 27:17Speaker 2: to play.
- 27:17Speaker 3: In training camp when you were running around, you can
- 27:20Speaker 3: hear the sweat in your shoe.
- 27:24Speaker 2: That's a sound of training camp. Yeah, one hundred percent,
- 27:27Speaker 2: no socks for me. But like I knew that I
- 27:31Speaker 2: like that question because I knew that I had like
- 27:33Speaker 2: a weird like thing about Elon.
- 27:35Speaker 3: What'd you answer no socks.
- 27:38Speaker 6: No, yeah, I can't do. Cannot do. Wet socks is
- 27:41Speaker 6: way too uncomfortable. I feel like you get a blood.
- 27:45Speaker 5: I feel like you get blisters either way.
- 27:49Speaker 7: No socks easy, No socks easy, easy, Look, I'll I'll
- 27:54Speaker 7: deal with the smell later. Don't care the wetness all day.
- 27:58Speaker 7: I just don't want to feel it all day.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Dirty feet is like, yeah, it won't do it.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Like they would dry though eventually.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Eventually they would unless you're less take unless you're in
- 28:10Speaker 3: a two day practice.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Out of a shoe and that sole just comes.
- 28:13Speaker 3: With it so bad. Yeah, I don't love it. A laundry.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Do you have a would you rather?
- 28:19Speaker 5: I was really unprepared for this, so I chat cheapy
- 28:22Speaker 5: teet it.
- 28:22Speaker 6: It gave you a very interesting one. Would you rather
- 28:25Speaker 6: know how you die?
- 28:27Speaker 3: Or when you die? How?
- 28:29Speaker 7: If I know how, I could prevent it longer?
- 28:31Speaker 3: If I know how in my mind as well?
- 28:34Speaker 7: No, but I could I could prolong it, like Okay,
- 28:36Speaker 7: for example, if it's.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Like I'm not getting around water, yeah, never.
- 28:43Speaker 7: Oh, Taylor, You're gonna die in a horrible bulldozing accident.
- 28:46Speaker 7: I'm like, well, let me stay away from construction sites
- 28:49Speaker 7: something like that.
- 28:51Speaker 5: Sometimes there's bulldozers like on the street, you know that
- 28:54Speaker 5: they mountain they're driving from like one site to the
- 28:57Speaker 5: other or whatever could be that situation.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Just keep my head on the scribble, I'll go. I'll
- 29:02Speaker 2: go with how all day?
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 29:04Speaker 2: I think when would just ruin we have?
- 29:06Speaker 7: Would bother me because like you're counting it down.
- 29:08Speaker 2: You're all right, I wanna do that? All right?
- 29:11Speaker 3: Uh Minsi's ready to go, So we will do this.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Let's take a break. You still owe me a would
- 29:16Speaker 3: you rather well take a break though, Ben Mince breaking
- 29:19Speaker 3: down the College Real series from hom Haul. When we
- 29:22Speaker 3: come back here on OTV, off the bench, all right,
- 29:26Speaker 3: go to Boudros Electrical dot com. Bujos Electrical dot com
- 29:30Speaker 3: is the website that you need to go to and
- 29:32Speaker 3: get that free generat quote because the last thing that
- 29:36Speaker 3: you want, hey hat fits you? Yeah right, how about that?
- 29:39Speaker 3: The last thing that you want is, well, maybe you're
- 29:41Speaker 3: watching the game tonight and maybe a storm rolls through
- 29:45Speaker 3: here in maton Rouge and then boom, all of a sudden,
- 29:47Speaker 3: you're without power. You got no game, you got no snacks,
- 29:50Speaker 3: you got no AC. That is miserable. But if you're prepared,
- 29:55Speaker 3: and Boudros has installed that whole home generator. You've got
- 29:58Speaker 3: the ultimate piece of mind. I'm flinn.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but Jake, we don't get storms around here in batteries.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Oh no, not at all, No, not at all. Check
- 30:05Speaker 2: out this hat though, Bujo's Electrical kidding. Look at that logo.
- 30:07Speaker 2: It's beautiful. Always be prepared, South Louisiana. We got storms,
- 30:12Speaker 2: we got hurricanes. Gulf of America gonna heat up here
- 30:15Speaker 2: pretty soon. Be prepared to have the peace of mind
- 30:18Speaker 2: that that a generator provides. You call them today? Uh
- 30:22Speaker 2: BuJo Electrical dot Com ninety five three nine seven one
- 30:25Speaker 2: five six two.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Plucked in on LSU football twenty four to seven. You're
- 30:40Speaker 1: listening to Off the Bench.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Welcome back an OTV here on this Wednesday morning, talking
- 30:50Speaker 3: to all things LSU baseball. Let's continue that conversation now.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Someone who has been boots on the ground in Omaha
- 30:57Speaker 3: at the College World Series, mister been mins of course,
- 31:01Speaker 3: barstools sports. Everybody knows MENSI welcome on to the show.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Ben.
- 31:04Speaker 3: How you doing, brother doing great man?
- 31:07Speaker 8: Waking up in Omaha, Nebraska? Uh, just always so much fun.
- 31:11Speaker 8: You know the thing about Omaha, it's there's nothing convenient
- 31:14Speaker 8: about getting here with fights and hotels, but when you're
- 31:17Speaker 8: here one of the true great American sporting events, and
- 31:20Speaker 8: uh you know a lot of Tiger fans out here
- 31:23Speaker 8: and excited to get out there today.
- 31:25Speaker 3: How far is that from Chicago? It can't be too
- 31:29Speaker 3: terribly far, right, No.
- 31:31Speaker 8: It's about a six hour drive. But we had a
- 31:34Speaker 8: Barstool Classic golf tournament out at shadow Ridge yesterday, and
- 31:38Speaker 8: uh so I got to go out and work that.
- 31:41Speaker 8: And you know the old, the old merging, the working
- 31:44Speaker 8: the golf tournament and making the college role series.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Could couldn't pass it off. We gotta get so Ta
- 31:50Speaker 3: Bob was on a little bit earlier. We got we like,
- 31:52Speaker 3: we gotta get LSU pass this round, get him to
- 31:54Speaker 3: the final series, so you and t Bob can do
- 31:57Speaker 3: some magic there together in the crowd. Look, I wouldn't
- 32:00Speaker 3: have no problem with that.
- 32:02Speaker 8: I'm supposed to go back tomorrow. I did a little
- 32:05Speaker 8: Monday a Thursday deal. But man, who knows, it's been
- 32:08Speaker 8: fun and omal uh man, the LSU fans are everywhere
- 32:12Speaker 8: I was. It's been getting real wild in that rocos Man.
- 32:15Speaker 8: I know I'm not telling anybody news. They don't know,
- 32:18Speaker 8: but the scene in there Monday before the Monday night
- 32:22Speaker 8: Lsucla game, Paul skiings Livy were in there, and yeah,
- 32:26Speaker 8: I mean it's just it just nobody out parties the
- 32:30Speaker 8: LSU fan base from South Louisiana. I mean, it's like
- 32:32Speaker 8: they're gonna end up, you know, like having more jealous
- 32:36Speaker 8: shots than the rest of the team's combined.
- 32:39Speaker 3: So, like, what is the the breakdown of fan bases? Minci,
- 32:43Speaker 3: Like if if you were to say, like the percentage
- 32:46Speaker 3: of fans there at the College World Series of all
- 32:49Speaker 3: the teams, Like, what is the percentage of LSU fans
- 32:52Speaker 3: compared to all the other teams.
- 32:54Speaker 8: Well, Arkansas has got a ton here, but keeping my
- 32:57Speaker 8: fau five and a half hour drive from Omall, they
- 33:00Speaker 8: got like a you know, and which is actually funny
- 33:03Speaker 8: because it's the first time Fville has ever had a
- 33:05Speaker 8: convenient location ever. Yeah, that's true, because you know that's
- 33:09Speaker 8: always the knock on it. It's like it's a great place,
- 33:12Speaker 8: like how do you get there? But Omaha is the
- 33:14Speaker 8: only thing that's convenient. They got a ton of fans here.
- 33:16Speaker 8: I went last night, But I think l LSU and
- 33:19Speaker 8: Arkansas by far, I mean, I don't know that anybody
- 33:22Speaker 8: else even has a fourth as many fans here. Oregon
- 33:25Speaker 8: State brought a good bit, but they're out now coastal.
- 33:28Speaker 8: Some little uc LA no good for baseball. They were
- 33:31Speaker 8: like two hundred fans here, And yeah, Louisville's not like
- 33:34Speaker 8: friends and family.
- 33:35Speaker 3: But not necessarily the most family.
- 33:40Speaker 8: Had a few fans, But Arkansas Shoe is gonna be
- 33:43Speaker 8: like Arkansas actually had sixty percent of the crowd Saturday
- 33:46Speaker 8: night I heard.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So there's multiple team fans, but I would assume most
- 33:52Speaker 2: people are bought barstool fans. So how's it been for
- 33:55Speaker 2: you walking around Mingland with people? I'm sure you get
- 33:57Speaker 2: recognized a lot that what kind of content have you
- 33:59Speaker 2: been created doing there? And just how's the trip been
- 34:02Speaker 2: for you personally? With all these different fan bases.
- 34:05Speaker 8: Man, it's so much fun. Look, I caught fire here
- 34:08Speaker 8: in twenty twenty one and twenty twenty two when I
- 34:11Speaker 8: was here the whole time of Missippi State and Ole
- 34:12Speaker 8: miss went and so I feel like I've been piggybacking
- 34:16Speaker 8: off that since. But just walking around, I mean, when
- 34:20Speaker 8: LSU's playing, I mean it really gets wild because everybody
- 34:24Speaker 8: from Louisiana definitely knows me out there, but man, walking
- 34:28Speaker 8: around last night, still a ton of support. Always say
- 34:32Speaker 8: the college baseball content. You know, my baseball illustrious baseball
- 34:36Speaker 8: career ended right field. I was fourteen years old, So
- 34:39Speaker 8: I don't know that anybody cares about me talking about
- 34:41Speaker 8: how to who's got a plus slider or any technical
- 34:45Speaker 8: aspects of the game. So I'm kind of there more
- 34:47Speaker 8: to get out and just get wild with the fans
- 34:50Speaker 8: and kind of capture the just what the College Wall
- 34:53Speaker 8: Series really is, because it's the think about the College
- 34:56Speaker 8: World Series. I think the size of it is what
- 34:59Speaker 8: makes great. It's like big, but it's not too big.
- 35:02Speaker 8: And you look at like the final four college football
- 35:04Speaker 8: National Championship, those are so so huge, But college World Series,
- 35:08Speaker 8: you got twenty three thousand people. Everybody's going to the
- 35:11Speaker 8: same bars, restaurants, you see team you know, the players,
- 35:14Speaker 8: the families, the coaches, every you know, it's like we're
- 35:17Speaker 8: all everybody's kind of together on it, and I think
- 35:19Speaker 8: that's like part of what makes it so great.
- 35:23Speaker 3: All right, So tonight it is going to be a
- 35:25Speaker 3: heavyweight battle between LSU and Arkansas MENCI like any anyway,
- 35:32Speaker 3: you're leaning towards maybe how LSU starts the game. We've
- 35:35Speaker 3: been talking about it all morning. You use Cason Evans
- 35:38Speaker 3: last night, I mean yesterday, I guess early in the morning.
- 35:41Speaker 3: He was electric, and you've used Kate Anderson Anthony ianson
- 35:45Speaker 3: only pitches forty four pitches, but you could keep him
- 35:47Speaker 3: in your back pocket maybe for tomorrow if necessary. So
- 35:51Speaker 3: how do you think LSU is going to play it today?
- 35:54Speaker 8: Well, first of all, obviously, trust Jay Johnson a hell
- 35:57Speaker 8: of a lot more than whatever I have to say here,
- 35:59Speaker 8: because job he's I mean, he's just unbelievable, how good
- 36:03Speaker 8: a job he's doing. Heaven said that. I think there's
- 36:06Speaker 8: a dangerous thing here to be a little fat and
- 36:08Speaker 8: happy when you're in the winner's bracket, Like you kind
- 36:11Speaker 8: of feel like you're already there because you only have
- 36:13Speaker 8: to beat him once in two games, and you kind
- 36:15Speaker 8: of there's like a mindset thing where it's like, oh,
- 36:18Speaker 8: we can not throw, you know, not throw our top guys.
- 36:21Speaker 8: We could just have to use them Thursday. I mean,
- 36:23Speaker 8: I think you should just bring ionson back and try
- 36:25Speaker 8: to win this thing right now, because Arkansas is really good.
- 36:29Speaker 8: I'm curious y'all is lsu fans. I mean, y'all are
- 36:32Speaker 8: probably more worried about Arkansas. The coastal Carolina's really hot,
- 36:35Speaker 8: don't get me wrong, but you know, just because you're
- 36:37Speaker 8: in the winners bracket, you don't want to let Arkansas
- 36:39Speaker 8: hang around. And when you look at Arkansas right now,
- 36:42Speaker 8: you know, gauge Wood through that no hitter Monday, and
- 36:44Speaker 8: Zach Rupe pitched into seventh or eighth Tuesday, so they
- 36:47Speaker 8: got their whole bullpen. I think you'll be seeing they
- 36:50Speaker 8: gave Gagle, who pitched the five innings and struck out ten.
- 36:52Speaker 8: For you know, he pitched great on Saturday, even in
- 36:55Speaker 8: the loss. So I don't know. I think this is
- 36:58Speaker 8: a spot where I mean, I understand you keep your
- 37:02Speaker 8: guys in your back pocket to try to set up
- 37:04Speaker 8: the national championship, but I would try to win this
- 37:06Speaker 8: dand thing like right now, because baseball is such a
- 37:09Speaker 8: momentum weird sport BARGANSA comes out wins this game all
- 37:12Speaker 8: of a sudden, you're looking up tomorrow one of those
- 37:14Speaker 8: winner take halls where it's like a hold onto your
- 37:17Speaker 8: nuts kind of situation. I mean, I don't know, I
- 37:20Speaker 8: do everything.
- 37:22Speaker 3: And and Jay has shown in the past mency that
- 37:24Speaker 3: that's exactly what he is going to do. Like even
- 37:27Speaker 3: go back to last year, Engaged Jump came in to
- 37:29Speaker 3: try to close the game out against North Carolina in
- 37:31Speaker 3: a regional Anthony Jinson has come in and he's had
- 37:34Speaker 3: to shut the door in a game. Uh. Like, if
- 37:37Speaker 3: Anthony Iinson like says, hey, I can go like giving
- 37:40Speaker 3: me the ball, like, Jay's not going to be afraid
- 37:42Speaker 3: to try to end it right now. Like, Jay's got
- 37:45Speaker 3: the same mindset that you're talking about there. He doesn't
- 37:47Speaker 3: want to work. That's why Caseen Evans pitch is yesterday.
- 37:49Speaker 3: You don't mess around with throwing a Jade nude or
- 37:53Speaker 3: throwing any anybody else in that situation. That's why you
- 37:56Speaker 3: throw Caseen Evans yesterday. So, I mean, I don't I
- 37:59Speaker 3: don't know the likelihood. But if Anthony Jinsen says give
- 38:02Speaker 3: me the damn ball and he feels good, then Jay's
- 38:05Speaker 3: gonna do it to win today not tomorrow.
- 38:07Speaker 8: Yeah, I think I just I'm all for that. Like
- 38:10Speaker 8: I said twenty twenty two, O'll miss Arkansas or in
- 38:14Speaker 8: this exact same spot, and Arkansas won this game to
- 38:17Speaker 8: force a Thursday game that ultimately will miss won two nothing.
- 38:21Speaker 8: So it kind of reminds me of that just because
- 38:23Speaker 8: Arkansas is involved. And look, Arkansas is a really good
- 38:26Speaker 8: baseball team. I know LSU Kata Anderson through an unbelievable
- 38:29Speaker 8: game Saturday night, but you know you went into this.
- 38:32Speaker 8: I'm sure LSU fans thought the same thing. It was
- 38:34Speaker 8: kind of like it's gonna be us for them. You
- 38:36Speaker 8: saw this bracket, and so I just think, like I said,
- 38:39Speaker 8: you gotta be real careful just because you won that
- 38:41Speaker 8: first one to not get a little get a little
- 38:44Speaker 8: fat and happy and lazy. But I think it's gonna
- 38:45Speaker 8: be a heck of a game. I can't wait to
- 38:48Speaker 8: see the atmosphere. I'm so excited that I get to
- 38:50Speaker 8: go tonight. You know, Arkansas is actually a slight favorite here.
- 38:53Speaker 8: I'm seeing Arkansas minus one thirty LSU coming back at
- 38:57Speaker 8: even money, So that kind of, you know, shows you
- 38:59Speaker 8: what's going on.
- 39:00Speaker 2: So who does Ben Mints think is gonna win tonight?
- 39:02Speaker 2: Who we put I know you, I know you like
- 39:04Speaker 2: to do you like to dabble with the gambles a
- 39:06Speaker 2: little bit. So who were putting our money on tonight?
- 39:09Speaker 2: Who do we think, we think this thing's over tonight,
- 39:12Speaker 2: we play again tomorrow.
- 39:14Speaker 8: Well, I look, if Jay I got to see what
- 39:16Speaker 8: happens with Anthony Jonson if he pitched. If he's pitching,
- 39:18Speaker 8: I'm taking LSU because I know he didn't. I know
- 39:21Speaker 8: Anthony didn't pitch well in that first inning, but he
- 39:23Speaker 8: was selling down Monday. I just really believe in him.
- 39:27Speaker 8: I know y'all watch LSU baseball. The way he competes
- 39:30Speaker 8: in battles. He impressed me so much all year. If
- 39:33Speaker 8: he's starting, I'm taking LSU. If he doesn't start, I'm
- 39:36Speaker 8: laying off it because I really think that if he pitches,
- 39:40Speaker 8: LSU gets this done tonight. But if he doesn't pitch,
- 39:42Speaker 8: I feel like Arkansas could be forcing the game tomorrow.
- 39:45Speaker 3: MINTI last one before we let you go. We appreciate
- 39:48Speaker 3: the time. Whoever wins between LSU and Arkansas and gets
- 39:52Speaker 3: to the Championship Series, is that who you're taking to
- 39:55Speaker 3: win the College World Series?
- 39:57Speaker 8: Man?
- 39:58Speaker 3: Coastal so that lost two month, dude, they have twenty.
- 40:01Speaker 8: Five straight wins and Coastal's got three good starters, two
- 40:04Speaker 8: good relievers. They wanted Auburn and that super sweeping them.
- 40:08Speaker 8: I don't know. I think Coastal handles Louisville pretty easily today.
- 40:11Speaker 8: I think Louisville's out of pitching. And then when you
- 40:13Speaker 8: look at this final four, like Coastal, LSU, and Arkansas
- 40:16Speaker 8: are all really good and Louisville, I mean, it's impressive
- 40:19Speaker 8: they made it there, but I don't think they're like
- 40:21Speaker 8: elite or anything like that. So I think Coastal gets
- 40:24Speaker 8: it done, and then they might have an edge in
- 40:26Speaker 8: the title series just because they don't have to play
- 40:29Speaker 8: a Thursday, so you know, they're so hot. I mean,
- 40:32Speaker 8: I feel like if it's Coastal LSU, it's I mean,
- 40:35Speaker 8: LSU probably like fifty five percent to win. Yeah, but
- 40:38Speaker 8: like Coastal is serious, you know, just because they're not
- 40:41Speaker 8: Power five, And I mean, I.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Don't know they've won a national championship. That doesn't like
- 40:45Speaker 3: mid major doesn't matter anymore for them. They're like Gonzaga
- 40:48Speaker 3: and basketball like that. That's going out the window.
- 40:51Speaker 8: Yeah, But the atmosphere, I'm all tons LSU fans seeing
- 40:55Speaker 8: a lot of Waisiana people. I'm sure a whole you know,
- 40:57Speaker 8: the way it's designed. If they make the National champions Series,
- 41:00Speaker 8: you're gonna see legions of people.
- 41:02Speaker 3: Oh wow, yeah, yeah.
- 41:03Speaker 8: I remember last year, two years ago, the stories about
- 41:06Speaker 8: they had like a six or seven am flight out
- 41:08Speaker 8: of New Orleans on Sunday before Game two. In the
- 41:11Speaker 8: New Orleans airport was just raging at four am before
- 41:14Speaker 8: that flight. I feel like a similar thing's coming. But
- 41:18Speaker 8: it's just incredible for Lush, you'd already be back here
- 41:20Speaker 8: two years later. I mean that twenty twenty three team
- 41:22Speaker 8: is one of the greatest teams of all time, with
- 41:24Speaker 8: Paul Skiings and Cruise and all the talent, and you know,
- 41:26Speaker 8: Jay Johnson's just he's just so dialed into this modern world.
- 41:31Speaker 8: The way he crushes the portal. I mean, he's just
- 41:34Speaker 8: absolutely phenomenal. I know y'all have him on the show
- 41:36Speaker 8: a lot, but he I can't. I can't say an
- 41:39Speaker 8: off and you know, I feel, you know, I would say,
- 41:42Speaker 8: oh shoes, you know, I would.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Say that it's light favorite to win it all right now?
- 41:45Speaker 3: All right, there he is been Min's barstool Sports, good
- 41:48Speaker 3: enough to join us boots on the ground from Omaha. Ben,
- 41:50Speaker 3: We appreciate the time and enjoy the game and the
- 41:53Speaker 3: scenes tonight, Oh, I assure you I will, all right,
- 42:00Speaker 3: we'll take one more break here in our number two.
- 42:03Speaker 3: We still got Ben McDonald's set to join us at
- 42:06Speaker 3: nine thirty to give us his breakdown. He's probably got
- 42:10Speaker 3: a pretty good idea of the mentality that Jay Johnson
- 42:13Speaker 3: is looking for tonight on the mound. I would say
- 42:16Speaker 3: Ben's probably an expert in that category. So looking forward
- 42:19Speaker 3: to that conversation. We'll wrap up our number two when
- 42:21Speaker 3: we come back here on one oh four five ESPN bat.

- 44:36Speaker 2: Let's drop into their d ms?
- 44:38Speaker 3: So so I did I think I got Timetel story.
- 44:41Speaker 3: So we did an event SEC Championship game. It was me,
- 44:45Speaker 3: Aaron Murray, Chris Doring, Peter Burns. It was an event
- 44:48Speaker 3: at this popular space in Buckhead for the SEC champis
- 44:52Speaker 3: Shop game. Now it's a popular bar at night, but
- 44:55Speaker 3: the event was there, right, and we were watching Washington
- 44:58Speaker 3: Oregon PA twelve ship game. So we stayed a little
- 45:01Speaker 3: bit later watching the game and then we're like we're
- 45:03Speaker 3: leaving as the youth are coming into this spot. I say,
- 45:05Speaker 3: you used like twenty five year olds, right, and I'll
- 45:08Speaker 3: never forget. Like we're all walking, yes, and it's like
- 45:12Speaker 3: dooring Pebe and Aaron and I see them by it.
- 45:15Speaker 3: I was a little bit behind them, and this couple
- 45:17Speaker 3: walks by. They're like, there's a lot of dads in
- 45:19Speaker 3: here tonight. Isn't there my own?
- 45:25Speaker 2: No, man, it's the golf Friday night here?
- 45:32Speaker 3: Isn't there the golf Friday night? Lights?
- 45:33Speaker 7: And keeps going to the high school party, shows up
- 45:35Speaker 7: at the drive in and they're like that guy, like
- 45:37Speaker 7: thirty five.
