Latest / Admonition Podcast / Evangelism Training Model Review - Justin Evergarden - 04-20-2025
Transcript
- 0:00We have just finished having an evangelism seminar, a seminar which
- 0:10I guess I need to stand over here.
- 0:11I forgot I'm not mic'd up.
- 0:15It's one of those days for me, I guess.
- 0:18We had an amazing seminar.
- 0:20Rob came and gave us a lot of information, and it was a lot of information, but it's a lot of useful, good information.
- 0:30Rob did a great way of explaining exactly what we're going to need to be doing from contacts to a growing church.
- 0:37When I first saw this, he described it as a pipeline in several different ways.
- 0:41I couldn't help but think of the life cycle of a frog.
- 0:44You have the eggs, then they hatch into tadpoles.
- 0:48The tadpoles swim around for a while, eventually become frogs, and so on and so forth until you're back to the eggs.
- 0:56It's kind of the same thing.
- 0:57And I can't help but think that his model is a life cycle for our congregation.
- 1:03We have to change
- 1:06our way of looking at things.
- 1:08We have to be able to know what we're doing, all the different steps involved, and I know it's a lot, but the plan tonight is to break this down into small little pieces.
- 1:19This evening we're going to review.
- 1:21So I'm not giving you anything new that we haven't heard from Rob unless you missed the seminar, in which case this is a good explanation for you to hear, but we're going to go a
- 1:29bird's-eye view one last time over the evangelism model and all the different steps.
- 1:3590 % of our work is going to be in the contact phase.
- 1:39The contacts are how we get the people that we're going to reach out to.
- 1:43Unless we have people to reach out to, we can't evangelize.
- 1:49There's a lot of different steps in this.
- 1:52And we're gonna break down each one, and I'm gonna have to, because it's so small on the screen, I'm gonna have to bring it up here so I can see it.
- 2:00In the contacts, we have what Rob calls contact lists, visitors, new movers, door knocking, community outreach, and congregational activities.
- 2:09Now, every one of you tonight, at some point, will receive these.
- 2:13Yeah, you can go ahead and hand them out.
- 2:15I should have told them to do that earlier.
- 2:17But.
- 2:17We're gonna have them go around right now and give you guys this little card, just a little postcard that you can keep on you, keep in your Bible, and this is going to explain
- 2:26the congregational model.
- 2:28So we're gonna go from the contacts to the prospects, the Bible studies, the baptisms, the new converts, and the growing church, which comes around full cycle to getting more
- 2:38contacts.
- 2:39Now Rob likes to say that it is quantity over quality, and he's right.
- 2:45We always hear quality.
- 2:47over quantity.
- 2:50Yeah, I said it right.
- 2:52We always hear quality over quantity, but in this case we want more contacts.
- 2:57The more people we can reach out to, then the more people we're going to get to become new Christians.
- 3:02It's going to take a lot of them, so this is one of those rare instances where it's quantity over quality.
- 3:09If you look at your list, we're going to go through it a little bit at a time, we're going to look at target lists.
- 3:14This is how we're going to start out with
- 3:17Everyone should also be getting one of these School of Evangelism bookmarks.
- 3:22This bookmark needs to stay in your Bible, stay in your portfolio, whatever it is that you carry around with you each day.
- 3:28If you're a woman, if you have a purse, this is a great thing to keep on you.
- 3:33Our assignment for this next week, next Sunday, is I want 10 names of people who need prayers, people you know, people you might have studied with, people that you would like
- 3:44to study with and reach out to.
- 3:46We can all write down 10 names.
- 3:50And if you can't think of them off the top of your head, just go down through your contacts list.
- 3:54We all have cell phones full of them.
- 3:55I probably have 500 that I don't have photos for.
- 3:58There are tons of people that we can reach out to.
- 4:01But we're going to put 10 names on this card by next week.
- 4:06And on the back, it'll even show you the categories of the people that need to be here.
- 4:12These will eventually move from the contact list to the congregational list for prospecting.
- 4:16Now eventually we're probably going to rename the prospect category.
- 4:20We were talking a little bit about it and maybe calling it Collierville cares.
- 4:25That way we can care for those people, but we're looking for visitors, airing brethren that haven't been here for awhile, people moving into the area, and we're actually going
- 4:35to be getting those metrics as well.
- 4:37So what Rob has set up for us is he's calmed down and he has purchased.
- 4:44all the information for new movers for the past several months.
- 4:46And we're going to keep receiving this information so that we can reach out into the community of people recently coming into Collierville.
- 4:53We're going to reach out to them.
- 4:54We're going to go give them a basket, just welcoming them into the neighborhood.
- 4:59And we're to get them hopefully interested in the church.
- 5:02Nobody hates getting a gift at their front door.
- 5:05When we first moved into the apartments for MSOP, all the wives had come together and we got this nice little basket with
- 5:12some cleaning supplies, a couple of little snacks, things like that, is a really good welcome gift full of things that you may or may not have thought of when you're moving.
- 5:21And so that's what we're going to try to do.
- 5:23We want people that are sick.
- 5:25We want scheduled for surgery.
- 5:27Those recovering from surgery, we have those on our list.
- 5:31We have cancer, those dealing with therapy, loss of loved one, newly married, birth of child, graduation, new job.
- 5:40lost job, depression, the list goes on and on.
- 5:44But one thing that you're gonna notice is a lot of these are life events.
- 5:49From moving to having a baby, they're all having something large happening in their life, something changing.
- 5:54We want to be there for our visitors and the people in the community for this.
- 5:59This is a community outreach event kind of thing.
- 6:02Because our goal is to reach the community and get them in here.
- 6:07There's a lot of steps.
- 6:09There's a lot of stuff that I'm going to repeat tonight over and over and over again, but it's because it needs to stick.
- 6:14We've got to be practicing this.
- 6:16But we're going to do it slowly over the next couple months, and we're going to put everything into place piece by piece.
- 6:22Again, it seems like a lot.
- 6:24You thought it was a lot listening to Rob?
- 6:26You should try reading this stuff.
- 6:28Because I sat down for over 15 hours this week, and I just read through the material.
- 6:34And it's all the stuff Rob said, and he's a great speaker.
- 6:37He got us all revved up for getting through evangelism training and getting us out into the community.
- 6:43But we've got to take it slow.
- 6:44Again, like you said, how do you eat an elephant?
- 6:47One bite at a time.
- 6:48You're not going to eat the whole trunk in one go.
- 6:52So we're going to do this.
- 6:55So again, you have the contact.
- 6:58This is personal.
- 6:59This School of Evangelism bookmark is what I'm going to call it.
- 7:04This needs to be your best friend over the next several months.
- 7:08Get used to always having one of these.
- 7:10And when you scratch someone off the list, we're going to have a table in the back.
- 7:15It's an evangelism table where you can get more of these.
- 7:18I want you to refill it.
- 7:19If you can get a list of 20 people, 30 people, even better.
- 7:23We want to have these lists filled.
- 7:24So don't think that you're done once we have just 10 lists, because each week we're gonna take one to two people off your private list, and this is just yours.
- 7:32I don't need to see this, your neighbor doesn't need to see this, this is just you.
- 7:36We're gonna go through and we're gonna go down the line slowly, and we're gonna look for people that are dealing with surgery, those maybe who've lost a loved one.
- 7:46And we're gonna take those people off the list and slowly move them over onto our contact card.
- 7:53Once we've got them on the contact card, the coordinators can go through these and we can start sending them cards.
- 8:00We can reach out to them.
- 8:03We can't take, if everybody in here has 10 people and we have 35 total members, just throwing a number off the top of my head, that's 350 cards.
- 8:13We can't do that day one.
- 8:15That's not feasible.
- 8:16We're going to get there and we're going to do it together, but it's going to take a while to get it all set up.
- 8:23The contact cards are transfers of a personal contact.
- 8:26So your personal contact will go over onto the contact card, and it doesn't have to all be filled out.
- 8:31You see here we've got first name, last name, phone, email, location for study, date contacted.
- 8:38You don't have to worry about all that.
- 8:39Today, I even put it into practice.
- 8:41We had a couple of visitors.
- 8:42I know they were members here at Collierville once before, but I just wanted to see how I could do it.
- 8:47So I walked over, introduced myself again.
- 8:50We hadn't talked much previously.
- 8:52But just through conversation, I was able to get names, I was able to get birthdays, I was able to get phone numbers, I was able to get a mailing address, because come to find out,
- 9:02her birthday is next Tuesday.
- 9:04That was Lindsay.
- 9:05Was it Lindsay?
- 9:06I think Lindsay, yeah.
- 9:07And then her husband, his birthday, Ashley.
- 9:11Ashley, that's it.
- 9:12Ashley, I don't have it in front of me.
- 9:14I've got the slides up in front of me.
- 9:16Ashley's birthday is next Tuesday.
- 9:19Their anniversary together is Wednesday.
- 9:22And his birthday is Thursday of next week.
- 9:25So we have three opportunities with one family to send them a card.
- 9:29And when they said that, obviously I said, happy birthday.
- 9:32you know what?
- 9:33Let's practice.
- 9:34You know, we're a congregation.
- 9:35We love to send cards.
- 9:36Do you mind if we send you a card?
- 9:37yeah, that'd be fine.
- 9:40It just fell into place.
- 9:41It wasn't hard.
- 9:42All you do is ask.
- 9:44I don't know of anybody that would say, no, don't send me a card.
- 9:46Don't send me a happy birthday card.
- 9:49So we're going to do that.
- 9:50I've already written down all their information and we're going to send them a card.
- 9:53I'm not saying we're going to send three.
- 9:55In this rare instance, we may send three cards in one just to save on the postage.
- 10:01But we have the opportunity now and all it does is take them there.
- 10:05Is take you going over and saying hello to them.
- 10:08Just asking them for their information, getting to know something about them.
- 10:12We were laughing because they had two small children and we've got one on the way.
- 10:16We invited them, hey, you know what, we're gonna have to have them over as soon as our little one, well, not as soon as he's born, but we're gonna have a play date.
- 10:22They should come over to the house and get to know each other.
- 10:24I think we got three little best friends going right now and they don't even know it yet.
- 10:28You know, that makes them happy.
- 10:29It makes them smile.
- 10:31The important part is we're not going to be asking them anymore to fill out the cards on the back of the pew.
- 10:38It doesn't work.
- 10:40I don't even like to fill them out.
- 10:43We need to be talking to them.
- 10:44We need to be engaging with them.
- 10:46We need to get to know them on a personal level.
- 10:48Evangelism doesn't work unless you show a genuine interest in the people that are here.
- 10:54We have to show them that we love them, and it's far easier to get that information than crossing our fingers that they pulled a little card out of the back of the pew and handed
- 11:03in at the end of service, or when the basket gets passed around, which we don't pass the basket around.
- 11:08So we have to search the pews after.
- 11:11Eventually we're going to take these contacts from the contact cards and we're going to put them into...
- 11:16Man, it's so small.
- 11:21We're gonna put them onto the congregational contact list.
- 11:24These are the ones that will be getting not only the cards, but we're gonna try to reach out to in a personal manner, maybe go to their door, invite them to come to service, take
- 11:34them out to lunch, things like that.
- 11:37Outside in the foyer, by next week, we're going to have the evangelism table.
- 11:43This is where you're going to see all the literature that we have.
- 11:46You're gonna see these training cards that go over and have all the stuff on there.
- 11:50You can get these guys, we'll have back to the Bibles, believe the Bibles, everything's going to be out there, and we'll even have framed up the posters of our congregational
- 11:59model, of the pipeline, or our new circle of life, as I like to think about it.
- 12:04Because life keeps moving, and we've got to keep moving, too.
- 12:07We don't have to move fast, just one step at a time.
- 12:09As long as we are all working together and we can push towards the goal, we're going to get it done.
- 12:14As Aaron said, I believe we can do this.
- 12:16If there's a congregation in the world
- 12:19that can evangelize and grow their numbers, it's us.
- 12:21Because I know each and every one of you has a heart of gold.
- 12:24You guys love visitors and love people more than I've ever seen a congregation, even ones that I've visited.
- 12:30We just need to know how to show it.
- 12:35So the goal for visitors, they're going to come in, and I know that it's so small, but we're going to identify and we're going to greet them.
- 12:42By greeting them, we're going to get their information.
- 12:46We're going to give them a gift bag.
- 12:48We're going to have the gift bags on the table or next to the table or somewhere in the building.
- 12:53We haven't decided that yet, but it's going to be available to all members.
- 12:56They are not going to be behind a locked door.
- 12:59This way, when a new visitor comes in, you meet them, you greet them, we can give them a gift bag.
- 13:04It's something very nice, gets a smile in their hand.
- 13:06Through talking with them, we can fill out the contact card.
- 13:09You can sit there.
- 13:10I sat there today and wrote down their information as they talked to me.
- 13:15It didn't bother them at all.
- 13:17In fact, we even joked about it whenever I pulled out my iPad and I'm like, here, me write down your name just so I know I don't forget it because I'm notorious for it.
- 13:26And then eventually we'll move them over onto the prospect list.
- 13:29It seems like a whole lot until you start.
- 13:32putting it into bite-sized chunks, and then you realize when looking at the individual pieces of, okay, I can do that.
- 13:39All right, I can do that.
- 13:40It's like building a Lego set.
- 13:42You look at the one piece of direction.
- 13:43You don't go to page four before you've done page one of your Lego set.
- 13:47You've got to build the base model first, right?
- 13:50The boys know more about the Legos.
- 13:55Next we have Heart to Heart.
- 13:58We're gonna be able to send this out.
- 13:59This is a new publication.
- 14:01He's going to help us get this out to the community.
- 14:05House to House Heart to Heart has a publication that will be completely, what's the word, customized for this congregation.
- 14:14So it's gonna have our information on it, our visitation times, link to the website and all that, and we're gonna send that out as well.
- 14:24Aaron, I think the slides keep getting smaller and smaller.
- 14:29Our goal is introduce, inform, gain interest, and to invite.
- 14:35When people come in, we can introduce them.
- 14:37We can ask them, along with asking them if they want to go to lunch and everything, over the period of time, we can ask them, do you receive house to house, heart to heart?
- 14:46Have you ever heard of it?
- 14:47well, I actually happen to have a copy of it right here.
- 14:50It's great.
- 14:50There's something good in here.
- 14:52But it gets our information in their hand.
- 14:54I'm not sure if we're going to be putting those in the visitor bags or not.
- 14:58or just mailing them out or giving them out by hand, but we're going to get them in their hands one way or the other.
- 15:05New movers, again, we're going to get those list of new movers.
- 15:08We have addresses, we have times of when they moved.
- 15:12I believe we get the names too of the people that move in.
- 15:15So we even have their names, we know if they're a family, if they're a single, we get all that information from the metrics.
- 15:21So when we go, we've done our research, we've done our homework, we know who we're talking to.
- 15:27And whether it is in an area that says, you know, no soliciting, that's fine.
- 15:33We're not soliciting.
- 15:33We're just welcoming our neighbor.
- 15:35The whole goal of going to the new movers and meeting with them is just to meet them, just to welcome them into the neighborhood, give them the gift basket, let them know that we
- 15:46are here and that I promise you, we will be the only church that walks up to their door, knocks on that door and gives them a gift.
- 15:55I think that...
- 15:56puts our foot in the door way further than anything else that we can do for new movers.
- 16:00People in the new community, know, back when, you know, and a lot of people, a lot of Christians nowadays still do it.
- 16:07When we move, typically we try to have a place planned that we're going to go to worship for.
- 16:12You plan that ahead of time.
- 16:13You visit around at the congregations and find your new home congregation before you move.
- 16:18The world's not like that anymore, especially the non-denominational world.
- 16:23When they move, they have no idea where they're going.
- 16:26Typically, it's a flavor of the week kind of thing.
- 16:29They're gonna find wherever they feel most welcome.
- 16:31Why don't we beat them to the punch this time?
- 16:34Why don't we go to their front door, give them a gift, welcome them in the neighborhood and say, hey, if you're looking for a place to worship, we're right down the road.
- 16:40We've got you.
- 16:41We've shown interest, we've shown care, we've shown love, and we can get them to come.
- 16:50New movers, again, it's the same thing.
- 16:51Introduce, inform them with a new mover postcard.
- 16:55We're gonna give them the new mover basket and we're gonna invite them to come to church with us.
- 16:59That's it.
- 17:00We're gonna be friendly to them.
- 17:05Door knocking reinvented is what Rob calls it.
- 17:09It's different from normal door knocking.
- 17:11Now if you've ever been on a door knocking campaign, who's ever been on a door knocking campaign?
- 17:15Let's raise our hands.
- 17:16Okay, so quite a few of us, but not all of us have.
- 17:20It's kind of like cold calling if you've ever worked at a call center.
- 17:24It's hard stuff.
- 17:25You have no idea who's gonna open up that door.
- 17:27You have no idea what the reaction is going to be.
- 17:33It works.
- 17:35In so many parts of the world, door knocking works.
- 17:39Our society now, door knocking doesn't seem to be working nearly as well as it used to.
- 17:45It just doesn't.
- 17:46We have a society set up that's based on separation.
- 17:51Who are you or why are you at my door?
- 17:53Are you here to axe murder me?
- 17:56I don't know you.
- 17:57Why are you here?
- 17:59It's a little different when they've just moved into the area and you're carrying a basket of gifts and say, look, we're just welcoming you to the area.
- 18:06That's a whole lot different than walking up and inviting somebody to the gospel meeting or to the seminar.
- 18:12Hey, we're running this seminar.
- 18:13Okay, well, I didn't ask for that.
- 18:15It's basically soliciting.
- 18:17Now, I know soliciting by the letter of the law is trying to sell something and we're not selling, we're giving away, but that's how they look at it.
- 18:28We've got to be able to know who we're gonna help.
- 18:32We need to go to them and inform them how we are going to help them.
- 18:36We need to show them that our purpose is there to help them and be kind and loving.
- 18:42And then the goal is to show them why we help.
- 18:45So if we can get them in the building, we've basically won them at that point.
- 18:49It's game over.
- 18:49We're gonna get their information.
- 18:51We're gonna ask them out for lunch.
- 18:52We're gonna get the Bible study.
- 18:54It's all a ripple effect and it all starts with the contacts.
- 18:57It all starts with the door knock and the new movers.
- 18:59It all starts with asking those prepping questions of, I can't help but notice I haven't seen you here before.
- 19:05What's your name?
- 19:07you got a cute little child there.
- 19:09Just what I did this afternoon, just for practice.
- 19:11And I did that on purpose because I saw the opportunity and I wanted to show that it works.
- 19:21invitation cards will be in the baskets.
- 19:24I'm getting behind on my slides here.
- 19:30Actually, his slides are different on, interesting.
- 19:34Okay, so it's good that we have VBS, it's good that we have trunk retreats, it's good that we have benevolence, it's good that we have graduation banquets.
- 19:42He's not saying, and I'm not saying that these are bad things, these are good things.
- 19:47But what's the purpose behind doing them?
- 19:49We've gotta make sure that our purpose for anything that we do from here on out is strictly for evangelism, getting people to come.
- 19:56What is the Great Commission?
- 19:57To seek and save the lost, right?
- 19:59That's what we're supposed to be doing.
- 20:02It's great that we have a VBS.
- 20:03It's great that we have a trunk retreat.
- 20:05But if we're going to have the trunk retreat, we need to figure out how to invite people from the community.
- 20:09How do we get more people that we don't know than people than we do know?
- 20:14These are not private shindigs anymore.
- 20:16They don't need to be.
- 20:17We need to have people from the community here and we need to evangelize with them.
- 20:22We need to show them what God's love is for them.
- 20:25We need to inform them.
- 20:26We need to show them the purpose.
- 20:27And again, we need to show them the goal.
- 20:29It's the same thing.
- 20:30Again, I know I feel like I'm up here feeling like I'm repeating myself.
- 20:34You guys who have been to the seminar have seen this, but it's very important.
- 20:38Every section of this is incredibly crucial, and we're gonna be setting all this up over the next several weeks to months.
- 20:46Greeting cards.
- 20:47When we send out the greeting cards to our prospects, I've lost it on here, I'm just gonna go by the slides.
- 20:55We're gonna send these out for three to four weeks, and they're gonna get,
- 20:59one greeting card a day.
- 21:00So when we have a visitor that comes, we're gonna take them out to lunch, we'll talk to them, great.
- 21:04When they go home, the next day or two, they're gonna receive a card.
- 21:08The day after that, they're gonna receive a card.
- 21:10The day after that, they're gonna receive a card.
- 21:12And we're going to keep doing this for three to four weeks.
- 21:16He suggests at least doing this for 10 prospects at a time and mail them out evenly.
- 21:21Put them in the mail every day, one letter.
- 21:24It's gonna take legwork.
- 21:27It's not easy.
- 21:28having to write a letter, sign it, envelope it, put it in the mail, stamp it, and send it off.
- 21:37Does anybody else get tired of getting junk mail in their mail?
- 21:41I know I do.
- 21:42Back in the day, I used to take the junk and I'd send it back to them.
- 21:45I'd tear it off, I'd leave my name on there, and they always had the little prepaid envelope.
- 21:50I'd shove it back in the envelope, I'd leave my name on it, and I'd send it back and let them throw their own trash away.
- 21:56It's totally different, though, when every single day you're getting a card that says, hey, we miss you.
- 22:02Hey, thanks for coming to our congregation.
- 22:04It was great speaking to you.
- 22:06I really hope.
- 22:07insert line about their family that they told you.
- 22:10know, hoping and praying that your little one is still doing well.
- 22:14We can't wait to see her again.
- 22:16He's there encouraging.
- 22:17This is great.
- 22:17Rob goes to people and he sees them literally lining them up on their mantle place.
- 22:22And then whenever we go to door knock later on and we follow up with them, they go and show them, you guys are the ones that are sending me all these cards.
- 22:29You you guys came with a new mover basket too a few weeks back.
- 22:33Four weeks of cards.
- 22:35a basket with things I needed when I moved, a constant invitation to go out to eat with us, who wouldn't be happy about that?
- 22:45That's how we get them in the door.
- 22:47That's how we open up their hearts to a Bible study.
- 22:51We got to contact.
- 22:53We got to show them the example that has been set forth, and we have to show them our hearts and compassion towards them.
- 23:00Another thing we do with prosthetics, we always eat.
- 23:04He said over and over and over again during the seminar, we have a tradition here that when a new visitor comes in that door, we take you out to eat.
- 23:13Don't worry about paying, we're gonna take you and your whole family out to eat.
- 23:16This tradition starts today.
- 23:20Today, for everyone in here, when we get a visitor in, we invite them to go eat.
- 23:25If they wanna come over to the house and get homemade cooking, great.
- 23:29If they don't, take them to a restaurant.
- 23:31First time's probably better to ask them to a restaurant, that way you're on even ground, public place.
- 23:37We've gotta invite them out to eat, no one's gonna say no.
- 23:40But what's better, to have the five minute conversation on the back row with them or as they're walking out the door, or gain an extra hour and a half with them at Chili's and
- 23:49sit down and open up their hearts and get to know them?
- 23:52You can get way more data that way.
- 23:54We can show them how much we care so much more that way by spending time with them.
- 24:00If we're not willing to spend time with them and getting to know them, why on earth would they want to spend time and get to know us?
- 24:08It's a give-give relationship.
- 24:10We've got to be the first ones to give.
- 24:11We've got to involve them.
- 24:13We have to investigate them.
- 24:15And then we have to invest in them.
- 24:19They're not going to invest time and especially not their hearts if we're not invested in them.
- 24:23We need to become genuinely interested in what they're about.
- 24:28And I'm going to tell you right now, sports are not my thing.
- 24:31Go sports ball.
- 24:33But I'm telling you, if I have no other way to talk to someone and get to know them, I will learn about sports.
- 24:40I will ask about the teams.
- 24:42I will be inquisitive.
- 24:43And you know what?
- 24:44What better teacher than them?
- 24:45If they love it and they want to talk about it, and I promise they'll talk about it.
- 24:49They'll teach me.
- 24:50And that gets almost a teacher-student relationship at that point.
- 24:54They'll be happy about it.
- 24:55They'll be smiling about it.
- 24:56Whatever it is, wood carving, mechanic work, sports, we need to show interest.
- 25:05One of the best speakers out there isn't a speaker, but one who listens.
- 25:11The more we listen to them, the more we can learn.
- 25:14And some of the best conversations I've had throughout my life are ones where, and I'm bad at this sometimes, I'm just as bad, I like to talk.
- 25:23Don't nod your head, Jacob.
- 25:25He goes, yeah.
- 25:27Some of the best conversations I've had is when I've just kept my mouth shut and just asked questions about them.
- 25:33Everyone,
- 25:34loves to talk about themselves.
- 25:36And me growing up, I wanted to talk to my parents about everything that happened in my life.
- 25:40I wanted to share that with my friends now, even today.
- 25:43I'm itching for that.
- 25:47communication, that connection with other people, and I know they are out in the world too.
- 25:54Why would we deprive them of that connection by talking about ourselves when we can just sit and listen?
- 26:00We can be an ear for them and an outlet, and that's going to endear them to us.
- 26:05Love thy neighbor, what?
- 26:09Love thyself.
- 26:11If I feel that way and I want to share parts of my life with people to show that I care,
- 26:17Wouldn't they also?
- 26:19Of course they would.
- 26:23Home is where you find it.
- 26:25Home hosts.
- 26:26Now he showed this picture and one of the things that he brought to attention was that every member in there used to be of a different denomination.
- 26:36You had Muslim, you had Catholic, you had Protestant, you had...
- 26:42insert denomination there.
- 26:44But everyone in the home in this picture are all Christians.
- 26:48They were all baptized and changed because they were invited out to eat.
- 26:52were invited into the home, they came and visited.
- 26:56It works because they got involved with the people.
- 27:00They learned to love them.
- 27:01They took time to learn about them, and they taught them the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- 27:07The whole purpose of this isn't the opening statement—let me say this—the opening statement is to get to know them, because once we get to know them, they will naturally
- 27:17want to get to know us.
- 27:19They'll want to know why such an interest.
- 27:22Why do you care?
- 27:23No one else in the world asks me all these questions and takes me out to eat and sends me postcards every single day for four weeks at a time.
- 27:32Why do you care so much?
- 27:35You guys know what Rob would answer, right?
- 27:37I happen to have these three little booklets.
- 27:41The whole point is to point them towards the cross.
- 27:43Why do I care?
- 27:44Because Christ first cared for me.
- 27:47And I was eventually, I was started out in the same position wondering why.
- 27:52Why did my God come to earth?
- 27:55Why did he become a man?
- 27:57Why did he suffer on that cross and die for me, a lowly sinner?
- 28:02Because he cared and I can love because Christ first loved me.
- 28:09That's the whole point is driving them to the cross.
- 28:13And we're not going to do that without doing it in steps.
- 28:16Christ did it.
- 28:17The apostles did it.
- 28:19He always showed care and love for them.
- 28:24and taught them the gospel.
- 28:27eventually we'll get Bible studies because they're going to want to know more.
- 28:31They're going to be asking, why do you care?
- 28:34Well, because of these three little booklets which point us back to the Bible and back to the cross.
- 28:39We're going to have these on the evangelism table.
- 28:41It will look somewhat different than what we have in the picture here.
- 28:44We're either going to set it up in the back of the foyer underneath the, as you're exiting, the right coat rack or more than likely probably right on the corner there where
- 28:54we currently have the the donation table.
- 28:57for the children's home.
- 28:58We may scoot that down a bit, we all know where that's at, but that gives us a nice central location and that way the sunlight too won't fade all of the paperwork that are
- 29:08there sitting on the table.
- 29:09Which, I'm just gonna say, even if we do put it in that table, I better not see any fading on that paperwork.
- 29:15I want that stuff to be used, it needs to be utilized.
- 29:19If it sits there so long that the words are starting to get hard to see and the colors are starting to fade, we're not doing our job.
- 29:27and then shame on us and shame on me.
- 29:30We gotta be picking this stuff up and using it.
- 29:31We need to be replenishing that table constantly.
- 29:34It needs to be a fight.
- 29:35Because if we're not replenishing that table, we're not replenishing souls into God's kingdom either, are we?
- 29:41We're not putting in the work.
- 29:43And it all starts with 10 names.
- 29:47It's not hard.
- 29:48It's not revolutionary.
- 29:5010 people you care about, 10 people you heard about.
- 29:52But we're gonna try to reach those souls because they need it.
- 29:58We purchased the material.
- 29:59We have a place for it all to be set up.
- 30:01It's gonna be presented out there and we're gonna go over and train you guys on every aspect of the table so you know what all the pieces do.
- 30:08We have training cards that I will eventually go over with you for all these steps.
- 30:13This is just training card one.
- 30:15Now this is the big overview again.
- 30:17They're not all going to be this in depth.
- 30:19Lots of them are going to be shorter than this.
- 30:21But it's all in pieces.
- 30:23We will get there together, but we need to work together to get it done.
- 30:27And then we need to preserve them.
- 30:28We're gonna assign someone to take care of the table.
- 30:31They're gonna restock it.
- 30:33So the rest of you don't have to worry.
- 30:34Everyone's going to have their piece in the machine.
- 30:38So just like a watch is made up of all kinds of several gears, you've got a big gear over here that does the hour.
- 30:43You have a gear that runs the little hand.
- 30:46You have a gear over here that does the date.
- 30:48It's the same thing.
- 30:49That gear that runs the date is not concerned with the minute.
- 30:52It's concerned only with the day.
- 30:55We all have a part to play and we're going to get those assigned.
- 30:58Bible studies, basic training.
- 31:00After we finish our study through John, we will be going through back to the Bible.
- 31:05Now we've got to leg up on this a little bit because before this seminar happened, I've been going through and trying to teach on Sunday evenings, believe the Bible.
- 31:14You should be well equipped.
- 31:15You should know these believe the Bibles and you should know the back to the Bible by the time we're done with this.
- 31:20I highly, highly suggest, I cannot suggest enough that
- 31:24everyone in here finishes back to the Bible all three booklets on their own.
- 31:31Outside of worship, we need to do them ourselves because we're not going to ask visitors or people that we want to have a Bible study with to do something that we're not willing
- 31:41to do ourselves, right?
- 31:43We need to be the examples.
- 31:45We can get through it.
- 31:46It's very easy.
- 31:47It's simply a question.
- 31:49It tells you where the Bible verse is, and then it says, what does the verse say?
- 31:53It's fill in the blank.
- 31:54the whole thing.
- 31:55It doesn't get any simpler than that.
- 31:56It's a self-made study, but we're going to go through.
- 32:00We're going to assemble you guys together, we're going to teach you, and we're going to go through all the back to the Bible to arm you for this.
- 32:06That way you're well acquainted with it.
- 32:08You're going to know the ins and the outs.
- 32:10You're going to know how to address the questions.
- 32:12There are some that need to be focused on a little more than others while going through the study of back to the Bible.
- 32:17There are key questions to ask, like when it says, when you're supposed to partake of the Lord's Supper.
- 32:23That's one you need to take.
- 32:25You can do back and forth reading through the books, but when you get to that section, you need to ask, hold on, do you mind if I get this one?
- 32:30I know it's supposed to be your turn, but I like this one.
- 32:33I try to do it off memory.
- 32:34Every second Thursday of the month, every Friday of the year, so on and so forth.
- 32:41You're getting them to correct you.
- 32:43We're gonna teach you that.
- 32:46Then we have advanced training.
- 32:48We'll eventually go through fishers of men.
- 32:50For the ladies, we have this great book out here that should be on the back table.
- 32:54If it's not on the back table, we will have the resource available for you.
- 32:57This is recipes for evangelism.
- 32:59When we invite people to eat, we gotta know what to cook, don't we?
- 33:03Not just the ladies, the men, if you cook, I know I cook from time to time.
- 33:07I'm gonna be making stew tomorrow night for a family that's coming over to my house.
- 33:11I looked up a great stew recipe.
- 33:13I'm gonna follow that recipe.
- 33:16This has it in there for you.
- 33:18Another one we're gonna go through after we went through the back to the Bible is how to close the study.
- 33:23You gotta know how to finish it.
- 33:25What happens when you finish the last book, the third book, and they're not ready to be baptized yet?
- 33:31Are you just gonna throw your hands up in the air and give up?
- 33:34No, we have to know how to close the study.
- 33:38We have to know how to keep going after that, how to keep talking with them, how to keep pursuing.
- 33:43When we get these visitors, these prospects,
- 33:45as it's called on these slides.
- 33:48When we get the people we love in our sights, we need to be trained on them.
- 33:52And we're not gonna stop until we reach our goal.
- 33:56You ever sat there and tried to run forward while you're looking back over your shoulder?
- 34:02It be real hard to run forward, isn't it?
- 34:05We have got to focus on that finish line one step at a time, no matter how hard it gets, just like a relay race.
- 34:13You're not gonna finish the race all at once.
- 34:15Again, this is a lot.
- 34:16We're gonna break it down into tiny little bite-sized chunks.
- 34:19It's gonna take us a while to get this all set up, but we will.
- 34:23Kitchen table Bible studies, you guys are gonna be conducting those.
- 34:27Not everyone is fit to do a Bible study, that's okay.
- 34:31Not everybody's the best at welcoming visitors, that's okay.
- 34:36Not everybody's the best at sending out greeting cards, I know I'm not.
- 34:40I've got terrible spelling, that's okay.
- 34:45We all have a part to play and we all got going to be assigned to these positions.
- 34:50That's why we had you fill out that survey so we can better choose who to get where because we want you in somewhere where you're comfortable, somewhere where you can go.
- 34:57But we don't need to get too comfy.
- 34:59We need to make sure we're still working.
- 35:01We can't stop.
- 35:04other Bible studies.
- 35:05We've already been through Believe the Bible.
- 35:07We're also going to teach Does It Matter?
- 35:09What happens when you get somebody that says, okay, I'll give you a Bible study, but you got one hour and that's it.
- 35:14I'm not giving you another Bible study, just the one.
- 35:15Are you going to try to slam all three back to the Bibles in one study?
- 35:20No.
- 35:22We're going to teach you how to use Does It Matter?
- 35:24Time is of the essence.
- 35:25You need to get it done.
- 35:26You have one hour.
- 35:28Does it matter?
- 35:30Same thing.
- 35:31It's a condensed version of the three back to the Bibles.
- 35:33Very quick.
- 35:34We also have these in multiple languages.
- 35:37We have them in Spanish.
- 35:39I'm working on them right now.
- 35:40Rob sent them over and I'm going to try to get them in booklet form.
- 35:43We're going to take them over to Japan next time we go.
- 35:45We're have them in Japanese.
- 35:47We can get them in any language we need.
- 35:50The next step you'll see on your card, the red one, baptisms.
- 35:55We need to be ready.
- 35:58If we have our goal being to get baptisms and grow our church,
- 36:05That needs to be something we're focused on, Not only does it need to be something focused on, we can't have a defeatist attitude about it.
- 36:12We just went through and cleaned up that back room and made it a lot cleaner.
- 36:17We didn't do it because we were just spring cleaning the building.
- 36:20We did it because our goal is to get it used.
- 36:23We don't want it empty.
- 36:24We don't want it full of cobwebs because it's going to be used.
- 36:27Baptismal garments, we're gonna get new ones.
- 36:30It's gonna be clean.
- 36:31It's gonna be ready.
- 36:33And that's the first step is readiness.
- 36:35If we're not ready to get baptisms, how are we going to baptize people?
- 36:41We're going to record it.
- 36:43Any chance we can, whether it's in a lake or here in this baptist tree, anywhere we have a baptism for this church, we're going to record it.
- 36:54There's a time to weep with each other and there's a time of joy for each other.
- 36:58We're supposed to...
- 37:01Plubbing up all my words here.
- 37:04We gotta be happy for each other and we're gonna rejoice together whenever we have a baptism.
- 37:07There's nothing greater than rejoicing in bringing a lost person back to Christ.
- 37:12If we threw $3 million and was only able to baptize one soul, forget the metrics for a second.
- 37:21I know that we have the metrics.
- 37:22We have the goal of doing six to 10 baptism a year.
- 37:25That's great.
- 37:26Numbers are good.
- 37:27But what happens if we only get one?
- 37:29It's just as good as if we got six.
- 37:31What's the worth of a soul?
- 37:34infinitely more than this world can hold.
- 37:37One soul is a fantastic victory.
- 37:39So if we don't see the metrics grow as fast as we want, don't get disheartened.
- 37:44Every one is a fantastic victory.
- 37:46And if it takes two more years to get another one, we're going to get it.
- 37:49We're not going to quit stopping.
- 37:51Think about how much that soul means to God.
- 37:56Think more about the fact of how much that means to that soul that we didn't give up, that we didn't quit trying.
- 38:04that we kept on with the faith and kept on with the work.
- 38:06It's going to mean everything to them when eternity comes.
- 38:14Every time we get a baptism, not only are we going to record it, but we're going to give them a new Bible.
- 38:22I will even be willing to custom engrave it with their name.
- 38:26Not going to charge for it.
- 38:27Just want to do it.
- 38:28If we want to order them and get them stamped, great.
- 38:30If we want to save money and do it that way, I can do it.
- 38:33But we're going to give them a Bible, brand new, and we're going to personalize it.
- 38:38Whether it's stamped, laser engraved, whatever, we want to put the Word of God in their hand and give them the tools they need to succeed, much like Rob has given us the tools to
- 38:48succeed now with this congregational plan.
- 38:53After that, we're going to enroll them in the new converts class.
- 38:57We got to teach our new converts.
- 38:58We have a book to go through called Growing in Christ.
- 39:01There's another one, the acts work book.
- 39:05We're going to teach them all the basics because we know the gospel plan of salvation.
- 39:11We've got them baptized.
- 39:12They're in a safe state.
- 39:15We want to make sure they don't fall back.
- 39:17We don't just dunk them and leave them.
- 39:19They need a good supporting structure.
- 39:23Unless you have a great foundation, a skyscraper is not going to keep standing, is it?
- 39:27It's going to topple over once it gets too tight, too many floors.
- 39:31They need us to be their foundation, and they need their foundation, us, to be centered on the Word of God so that theirs is the Word
- 39:46We've got to teach them.
- 39:47We've got to connect them with each other because our new converts are going to grow together and they're going to help support each other as well.
- 39:55And then what happens?
- 39:56We go full circle again.
- 39:58All of those now start being taught the same congregational model, going through all the steps slowly, and they're going to bring in contacts.
- 40:06Contacts become prospects.
- 40:07Prospects become Bible studies.
- 40:09Bible studies become baptisms.
- 40:10Baptisms become new converts.
- 40:12And new converts give us more contacts.
- 40:15and we'll grow that.
- 40:18Member mentoring is going to be a big step.
- 40:23I know in this church we don't have a problem with that.
- 40:26In this church, everybody's family, and that's great.
- 40:29We need to make sure we keep treating the new ones in here the same way.
- 40:36We're gonna go through compassion card troubleshooting.
- 40:40I'm gonna also teach you guys, did everybody get the email reaching the lost?
- 40:44Raise your hand if you did not receive the email reaching the lost in the past week.
- 40:49Okay.
- 40:51Okay, if you didn't, come see me after.
- 40:53I'll get your email and we'll get that to Rob and get it sent out to you.
- 40:56That's the newsletter update that's gonna keep coming through and we're gonna get you guys set up with that.
- 41:00We're also going to give you access to the curriculum.
- 41:04It's the same curriculum I have.
- 41:06It's the same curriculum Aaron has.
- 41:07So if you want to know more about your specific role when you get the role, you have it all right there.
- 41:13There's nothing that I will tell you that's not in this website that will teach you.
- 41:17It's easy to navigate.
- 41:19You've got sections over on the left-hand side, contacts, prospects, Bible studies, new converts, all the way around the congregational model.
- 41:29And all you do is click it.
- 41:31It's got a drop-down menu.
- 41:32You find your section.
- 41:33It'll tell you all about what's to be done.
- 41:35and what's needed.
- 41:37We all have access to this.
- 41:38We're all going to learn from this.
- 41:42We have a recommended training and preaching schedule.
- 41:46That's what we're following right now.
- 41:48This morning, Aaron started us out with John chapter one, or not John chapter one, John four.
- 41:54The first section of John chapter four, it's a three part series.
- 41:59I'm going through the model right now, the review.
- 42:03There's nothing you haven't seen before if you came to the seminars, but it's good to have a touch up.
- 42:07It's a lot.
- 42:08It's still a lot, but we're gonna go through.
- 42:10It may not be every single week.
- 42:12We, some weeks we may not be able to follow it perfectly, but we're going to keep making progress.
- 42:18If we keep making progress, just like any job, you're going to reach your goal.
- 42:24We have a checklist.
- 42:25I have this digitized on my iPad right now.
- 42:28I'm going through the initial setup.
- 42:29We're gonna go and teach you guys about the evangelism table.
- 42:32We're gonna teach you about contact cards.
- 42:34We're gonna go through back to the Bible.
- 42:35There's a lot of different things, and we're gonna be doing that over the next several months, slowly but surely, until we have all the pieces in place to build our watch.
- 42:46And then we can all work.
- 42:47We're going to be the membership that powers the batteries of said watch, and we're gonna watch it tick.
- 42:52And every second that ticks.
- 42:54It's gonna get closer to a baptism.
- 42:56I promise you, I know it's gonna work.
- 42:59I've seen it work.
- 43:02This here is our...
- 43:06our evangelism model, like assignment roster.
- 43:09I have this also digitized.
- 43:11This is to where I can keep up with who has what assignment, what you're doing, and I'm gonna try to oversee as much as humanly possible.
- 43:20I can't do it all myself, so I'm gonna rely a lot on all the members here, but I need your participation, I need your help.
- 43:28We're gonna get people assigned, we're gonna get weekly or bi-weekly updates on how things are going.
- 43:34If you have new prospects, contact list, bring them to me.
- 43:37We're gonna get them there where they need to go.
- 43:39Does everybody see kind of how this all works?
- 43:42It's just a big circle.
- 43:44It's a lot to do.
- 43:45There's a lot of parts and pieces, but all we have to do is slowly make it around the circle, just like running a relay race.
- 43:52And when every time we make it around the circle, we get a new baptism or two sometimes.
- 43:57We can increase our numbers.
- 43:59There's no doubt in my mind that we can reach that six to 10.
- 44:02But even if we don't, the worth of even reaching one makes every single bit of this worth.
- 44:11So again, what I want you to do is your bookmark.
- 44:15want everybody to have a bookmark.
- 44:17And I'm going to go around over the next couple of weeks and I'm going to ask you, do you have your bookmark?
- 44:22And if you do not have a bookmark on your person, I will have a bookmark to hand to you because I want it on your person.
- 44:29If I see you out in town, I'm going to ask you, do you have your bookmark?
- 44:34I will give you a pass if it's in the car.
- 44:37I want 10 names.
- 44:39We can all put 10 names on here.
- 44:40We're just getting started.
- 44:41That's all.
- 44:42Just 10 names for the week.
- 44:43That's it.
- 44:44Think of it like homework.
- 44:47I can't think of it like homework, not myself.
- 44:49I love it too much.
- 44:51Because we're reaching people we care about.
- 44:53We're saving lost souls.
- 44:59We still have the invitation open for anybody that needs it.
- 45:02If you haven't been reaching the lost, you found yourself not caring, if you found yourself growing apathetic towards God's work, you need prayers.
- 45:14you need anything, anything we can pray for you for, or you simply want to put on Christ in baptism tonight, we have that open for you now.
- 45:21And we'll help you out however we can as we stand and as we sing.
