- 0:00Welcome to Fostering Faith. We're in season two here at Fostering Faith. We are here just
- 0:09to uplift you and bring you on a faith journey with us. And so welcome in as we go into our
- 0:17next topic, which is worship and praise. And so we've had a pretty extensive week this
- 0:24week and so we just thought it was kind of just praiseworthy for us to talk about what
- 0:28we've been doing kind of all week. And so how has your week been, Gia? Good. What's
- 0:34been good about it? I don't know, it's just been good. And we had basketball tryouts because
- 0:43we talked about basketball tryouts the last time. And we have volleyball tryouts coming
- 0:47up for your travel team. So we have a lot of things that we've been doing and we're
- 0:53going to get busy. We have our first tournament next week and then we have a shootout next
- 0:57week. And then talk about where we get to go to tomorrow. Chicago. Oh, why are we going
- 1:04to Chicago? To get our Italian passports. And so fun fact, for those of you that don't
- 1:10know, me and Gia were able to obtain our dual citizenship. And so we have our Italian citizenship
- 1:19along with our US citizenship. And so it's been a very much big work in progress. Our
- 1:24cousin did a majority of all the work for us. And we are just kind of following in those
- 1:31footsteps for our heritage. And so we get to go to Chicago and get our Italian passports.
- 1:37And so we're going to have a girls weekend, which we've never had really before. And so
- 1:41we're just going to go explore the city and just kind of relax and, and just have some
- 1:47fun. And so I'm pretty excited about it. Are you? Yeah. Okay. And so praise and worship.
- 1:53So this season we are just kind of diving into our faith walk and just kind of experiencing
- 1:59life together here on fostering faith. What's praise and worship to you Gia? I'm like singing
- 2:06and like, I don't want to use worshiping because like it's the definition, but like, just like
- 2:13only focusing on him. I feel like. Yeah. Where, where do you worship at? Church and like camps
- 2:27and like 618 nights. And so 618 is one of a local band here in town where they, we just
- 2:34gather together all the churches locally. And because we are the church, the people,
- 2:40and we just come together and we give praise and we worship him and just having that unity.
- 2:51What do you think youth is thinking about whenever we talk about praise and worship?
- 2:57Just singing to all that stuff like that because we like worshiping. Do you think it's important
- 3:05to see your parents worship? Yeah. Why do you feel like that's important? Because that's
- 3:15like our role model and everything like that. And I'm in, I'm studying Psalms right now
- 3:20and just reading through it and it's so good. I think I may even mentioned that last week
- 3:27about being in Psalms and I'm still in Psalms. It really is just such a good book and there
- 3:34was a part in here where it talked about like sharing your spiritual heritage and family
- 3:38worship and the home must provide vital and living examples of a true Christian children
- 3:44must be taught how to talk to God about everything major decisions in their life and simple findings
- 3:50of a parking place in town. And we people make fun of me because I always pray for a
- 3:55good parking spot in town because my heavenly father, there is nothing too big nor small.
- 4:01And that's found in Matthew 18, 19 through 20. And then faith must be become part of
- 4:07your everyday life. And so we just can't save it for camp. We just can't save it for a 618.
- 4:13We have to not save it for Sunday either. And so faith must become part of our everyday
- 4:18life. Effective ways to do this is by like playing games together, engaging in discussions
- 4:26about God together, the Bible and ways that Christians practice their everyday living,
- 4:33spiritual heritage is build a wall of security and protection around their home. And then
- 4:39what we do, what I do is a responsibility and privilege of me being a wife, a mom, and
- 4:46Mr. Bride of an atmosphere where we are loved by loving one another. And so that's in Proverbs
- 4:5331. And so everybody talks about having a Proverbs 31 woman. And that kind of privilege
- 4:59is just passed on to your children. And so like the moms that are out there, failing
- 5:02devotions are such a real thing that should be done. And so using that Bible app that
- 5:08we talked about in several of our episodes, sharing those plans together, just simple
- 5:13Bible reading, brief prayers and reading scripture and praying for one another is so important.
- 5:20Do you feel like kids pray for their parents? Yeah, I feel like we do a lot. What are some
- 5:27things that other things that Christian families can do to spend time together in prayer and
- 5:33reading? What are some just practical tips for people to bring God more into their family
- 5:40time? Just like talk about it, like just bring it up in a conversation. I feel like it would
- 5:46be like one of the best ways. Yeah. And there's just so many times in scripture that praise
- 5:53is mentioned. And so through prayer, the children are in Psalms and 8 2 and then fitting for
- 6:03the upright to praise him. And so just worshiping him and just knowing of that reference and
- 6:09that all of God and just that respect and just spending time in prayer, I think is such
- 6:16an important thing. Do you have some questions? Yeah, I do. So my first question is why is
- 6:25worship important? I think worship is important because that's a specific time with God. I
- 6:35think it's not like what kind of worship that people kind of maybe think about. It's not
- 6:43singing. It's just that reverence and awe of God. It's just that celebratory knowing
- 6:50that he is the Lord of lords, that he is the God, that he reigns on high and just having
- 6:55that more of that relationship with him. And it's more quiet. I feel then what praise would
- 7:07be. My second question is why do we worship God? Why wouldn't we? Because he is the only
- 7:19God. He is the only God that we know. And he's the only one true God. And so other religions,
- 7:27they do believe in other gods and they worship other beings. And they talk about universes
- 7:33and statues and other different kinds of gods. But our God that we worship is the only one
- 7:40true God. And we have a reverence and a fear of him. And we are so lucky to have him in
- 7:48our life. And so it's just why wouldn't we worship the one that gives us life and brings
- 7:57us joy and protects us? And yeah, that's why. Okay, how can we start worshiping him? If
- 8:15people are new to worshiping him, how do you start? Now, do you think that to differentiate
- 8:21between praise and worship, and so to praise him is to, is just to thank him for everything
- 8:30that he's done for us and to, you know, lift our hands and just thank him over and over
- 8:35and over again, just for everything that he's done. And, you know, in Psalm 73, where he
- 8:45was, you know, really grasping and just kind of just being mad at God. And in 72, we have
- 8:53a Psalm of praising God. And those are called a dexology, which is just a declaration of
- 8:59praise to God. And it is an outburst of praise in response to God and how and what he's done.
- 9:08So I mean, just a fun fact, the word dexology comes from the Greek word that we have, and
- 9:19it's called the glory and speech. And so whenever you have a dexology, you have just this outgoing
- 9:27pour of just thanksgiving. And even in the Lord's Prayer has is a traditional, and it
- 9:36talks about how we just praise God for everything that he's done. And just as you remind yourself
- 9:46of like all the storms that he's allowed you to go through and how he's matured you. And
- 9:52you just know that he's there to defend you and you go back on his promises. And it is
- 10:00just this revitalizing of your heart whenever you have doubt in your heart, you're like,
- 10:06Oh my gosh, I remember this time that you did this. And I remember the time that we
- 10:09walked through that together. And I remember the time, you know, that we did this together.
- 10:15And so it's just a way to really just kind of reflect and just just seeing praises to
- 10:24him is what I would this how I feel. Okay, my fourth question is, why does God like us
- 10:37worshiping him? Just, I mean, why do you like to hear good things come to you? I mean, worship
- 10:49is the goal of our missions. You know, missions are not just an ultimate goal of the church,
- 10:54but worship worship is missions exist because worship doesn't. I mean, worship is an ultimate
- 11:02non mission because God is ultimate and not a man. And so over the ages, countless of
- 11:12millions have been redeemed to the face of the throne of God missions and worship, therefore,
- 11:21you know, worship is the fuel and goal of what we're trying to do. And so the goal of
- 11:28the missions is the gladness and the people that have greatness of God. And that's, you
- 11:34know, Psalms 67, the Lord is King, let the earth rejoice, let the farthest coastlands
- 11:40be glad. You know, worship is also a fuel for missions, passion for God in worship proceeds
- 11:47an offer to God in preaching. You can't command what you don't cherish. And so missionaries
- 11:56will never call out and let nations be glad if they cannot say from the heart, I rejoice
- 12:05in the Lord. And so I just think that, you know, our main goal is to is to worship is
- 12:14to worship him. And he deserves, you know, sing praises to the God in his name, sing
- 12:19loud praises to him who ride on the clouds, you know, rejoice in his name, rejoice in
- 12:24his presence. I mean, that just really got to turn your frown, you know, upside down.
- 12:29At what point do you feel like praise is the best? Like when I'm sat and down and like,
- 12:41not like feeling like it. And then, like, then I like hear worship songs and like I
- 12:47jump to them and everything, which makes it like fun. And I think that you bring up a
- 12:55good point. Do you always feel like worshiping God? I mean, sometimes not every single like
- 13:02minute, but like I pray to heaven and everything like that. And I do feel like that's a really
- 13:10good point is that people don't always feel like praising God. They don't always feel
- 13:15like worshiping God, because they're going through times, they're going through battles,
- 13:19they're going through, you know, these situations where they have, you know, difficulties and
- 13:26they're like, you know, you're not listening to me, you're not, you don't hear me. And
- 13:31again, you know, just in Psalms, it really just talks about real world, you know, like,
- 13:36why are all these people getting their way and I'm doing this and you know, it really
- 13:41just goes down to like kind of the bare bones of, oh, and then I remembered, you know, you
- 13:48were there for me whenever I was here, you know, I praise the God of Israel, who along
- 13:54does grateful things and praises glorious name forever and let the whole world be filled
- 13:59with glory. And we you praise and then you're you really just it just turns your mood into
- 14:11something different because you remember all of his promises, you remember all the things
- 14:14that he's brought you out of. And so even though whenever you don't feel like it, I
- 14:20think it's Hebrew 11. One, I think it is about how we don't have faith in midst of
- 14:43that we can see. Excuse me as I look it up. And then it says that, you know, examples
- 14:58of great faith face those the reality that we hope for in the evidence of things that
- 15:04we cannot see through their faith that people in the days earned old earned good, a good
- 15:10reputation by faith. We understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command
- 15:15and that we now see and did not come from anything that can be seen. And so I think
- 15:21that's just another encouraging way for people to just practice reading the word and writing
- 15:30those, you know, things on your heart. I have a couple of Bible verses. Can I read
- 15:37them? Absolutely. I have first Chronicles 16 to 23, sing to the Lord, all the earth
- 15:42proclaim his salvation day after day. And then my next one, I have Daniel 220 and said,
- 15:50praise be to the name of God forever and ever wisdom and power. And then I have Deuteronomy
- 15:571021. He is the one you praise. He is your great God who performed for you those who
- 16:04great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes. Then I have Jeremiah 2113 sing to
- 16:11the Lord, give him praise, give praise to the Lord. He rescued the life of the needy
- 16:16from the hands of the wicked. And like I feel like all those are just like there's so many
- 16:21more about praising God. I feel like it's just like a thing like you don't need to do
- 16:27but the thing that you want to do, like praising him. Yeah. And I mean, just as you end like
- 16:33the Psalms, I mean, 146, 147, 148, 149, 150 is all about praising God. Let all that praise
- 16:44the Lord. I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to God in my dying
- 16:50breath. And we really have our hope and because we know our future is in God's hands. We know
- 16:56that we trust in God and that he's never failed us. And we might feel anxious. We might feel
- 17:01nervous and it's because we're trying to lean into our own understanding and we just really
- 17:07have to, we give thanks to God. We give thanks to the Lord. We give thanks to him that does
- 17:15mighty miracles. And then you have praise in Psalm 136 and it's just, it just makes
- 17:23you just smile reading all these, you know, things that they've written in Psalms. And
- 17:33so I do think that, you know, just to encourage our listeners that they may not feel like
- 17:40praise and worship, but does he deserve to be praised and worshiped? Do you have to do
- 17:52it at church? No. And I, what's something I think that I've watched you guys mature
- 17:58in is how you lift your hands. And so what could you do to encourage people to raise
- 18:04their hand in praise? If you feel embarrassed lifting your hand, just know if you start
- 18:13doing it, other people will say, oh, she's doing it. So I'm not going to be the only
- 18:18one. Like everyone will just rapidly put their hands up because that happens a lot. And I
- 18:24feel like it's just way more better when you put your hands up. Cause I feel like it just
- 18:28lifts off like a weight off of me whenever I raise my hands. It just feels so good. And
- 18:34I mean, and I mentioned that in scripture too, about just lifting your hands and praise,
- 18:41lifting your hands whenever you're just, you're, you're in his presence and you're worshiping
- 18:47him. And you're just, you're just loving him. And I do think that as kids, as I've watched
- 18:57you guys kind of mature in your faith, how you guys kind of went from, you know, crossing
- 19:01your arms and like, this is dumb. I don't like the singer. I don't like this. And as
- 19:05you get into praise, it's just about, you don't even know who's singing it, but it's
- 19:09just about you talking to God and you just, you know, throwing your hands up. And so I
- 19:14think too, that you see all these fans that like go crazy for like their sports and like
- 19:20their teams and like they paint their face white and they're throwing the flags around.
- 19:25They're so excited. What happens if we got so excited for Jesus and to worship God on
- 19:33Sundays? How do you think churches would be if they were that excited as they were for
- 19:39their sports? Do you think the atmosphere in churches would change? Yeah, I feel like
- 19:46they would change a lot. Why do you think people like they cheer for their sports teams,
- 19:51but they don't cheer for God? Because I feel like they think it's like different because
- 19:57I feel like it is different because like a sports team is like not as religious as worshiping
- 20:05God and everything like that. So do you think they feel embarrassed? I don't know. Maybe.
- 20:12And what does scripture say about those that deny me in public? And so if we deny Jesus
- 20:22in public, he will deny us in private. And so we're all going to have to go because every,
- 20:27we will bow and we will face Jesus and it is going to be a day of that everyone will
- 20:36have to do. And so I think that, you know, we can be so excited for God and for Jesus
- 20:43just as people are just so excited about sports and how they do that. They kind of worship
- 20:51their sport and their person and the people on the field. And so I think that just as
- 20:56a society, what happens if we would worship Jesus and God and be in church and just be
- 21:02so excited to be in his presence, just like we would be so excited to be at Wrigley Field
- 21:07or like the Cardinal Stadium or, you know, Whip Stadium and just to be so excited to
- 21:12be in the presence of God, just like they are their sports teams. I think that that
- 21:17would really change the atmosphere of a lot of churches. And so as we kind of in this
- 21:25podcast on praise and worship, I do think that we really want to encourage listeners
- 21:31to subscribe and write a review because that's so important to help our podcast grow. We
- 21:39thank you so much for listening to our podcast as we continue in the second season. And we're
- 21:45going to have guests later on in this season too. So I want you to stay tuned. Gia has
- 21:50some merchandise that'll be in the description below. And so make sure that you leave a
- 21:55review on YouTube, Spotify, Apple. And so do you want to pray us out to you? Yeah. Dear
- 22:05God, thank you for his faith. Thank you for everything. And I just please help this sick
- 22:08and hurt feel better. And I pray that we will not grow weary in our faith in you. And I
- 22:13pray that we will worship you and praise you. And I pray that we will not be embarrassed
- 22:18to lift up our hands and to praise you. And Jesus, I pray, Amen. Amen. All right, guys,
- 22:25have an amazing week. Stay safe. Bye.
