- 0:12Speaker 2: the greatest producers to ever live Ladies and Gentlemen does
- 0:15Speaker 2: do a lot of interviews, so I feel very privileged
- 0:17Speaker 2: to be sitting down with DJ Muggs.
- 0:18Speaker 3: What's adding brother, welcome man, feel thanks for having me man.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yeah, sol Assassin's Three Death Valley is album.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yeah man, And what a track listing. Wow, man, some
- 0:29Speaker 3: motherfucker's on there.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Some motherfucker's on there for real.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Yeah, some of my favorite new rappers man, Like you know,
- 0:35Speaker 3: Body James shout.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Outs to Bodie. You've got ghost Face on there.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Yeah oh yeah. Then we got some of the classics
- 0:41Speaker 3: and ship yeah, ghost and Gun.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Shout out to TF man. I was gonna say, like,
- 0:45Speaker 2: it's crazy because I remember the source advertisements for the
- 0:50Speaker 2: very first Soul Assassins album, which was what ninety seven
- 0:53Speaker 2: or ninety eight seven? Yeah, man, So like fast forward.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I don't even want to talk about how many years
- 0:59Speaker 2: that is because it'll age you and me a lot.
- 1:01Speaker 2: But for you, like what has changed about putting together
- 1:05Speaker 2: a soul assassin's album after, you know, twenty five years
- 1:08Speaker 2: later or whatever it is, and what kind of still
- 1:11Speaker 2: fuels you to be so passionate about this shit because
- 1:14Speaker 2: you were active still to this day. You know, you're
- 1:17Speaker 2: always dropping projects, joint projects, working with up and coming artists.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Man, yeah, part one was back then.
- 1:25Speaker 1: It was pre mixtapes, before mixtapes got really crazy, So
- 1:29Speaker 1: doing a record like this was something unique, you know
- 1:31Speaker 1: what I mean.
- 1:31Speaker 3: There was only a few motherfuckers doing.
- 1:33Speaker 1: That where I just a lot of people was asking
- 1:35Speaker 1: me to do tracks for them for their albums, and
- 1:37Speaker 1: I was like, man, I'm good man. I'd just rather
- 1:39Speaker 1: just build my group and do my shit, but you
- 1:40Speaker 1: all can come and be on my shit. Then once
- 1:43Speaker 1: the mixtape Eric kicked off, everything was just mixtapes. So
- 1:46Speaker 1: then it was just it wass nothing really special about
- 1:50Speaker 1: making these records nor more because you can go get
- 1:52Speaker 1: a fly as mixtape. So I was like, I don't
- 1:54Speaker 1: think I'm gonna do another one, So I just I
- 1:57Speaker 1: record all the time. So recording the homies come through
- 1:59Speaker 1: record record, stacking songs, stacking songs, and I was like,
- 2:02Speaker 1: I got some shit right here. What am I gonna
- 2:03Speaker 1: do and I was like, I was. I had three
- 2:06Speaker 1: or four different ideas of the way to put it out,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and then I was just gonna probably drop a song
- 2:10Speaker 1: every two months for the next three years. And then
- 2:13Speaker 1: gold Watch came through and I was like, Yo, I
- 2:15Speaker 1: need you to help me figure something out, man, I
- 2:17Speaker 1: need to build something visually for this record, because I
- 2:19Speaker 1: feel like just doing videos.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah the video I saw that. I only saw the trailer,
- 2:24Speaker 2: but the trailer looked like a fucking full fledged cinematic yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And I was like, I'm tired of videos, man, what
- 2:30Speaker 1: can we do brocause I'm not putting this record on.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I was like, let's let's build something that's like ten
- 2:34Speaker 1: fifteen minutes long. He's like, man, that's a that's that's
- 2:36Speaker 1: gonna be hard. And I was like, you know shit.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And we started. We shot and pre prepped for like
- 2:44Speaker 1: a month. I ended up shooting in Death Valley, Oakland,
- 2:48Speaker 1: San Francisco, Vegas, LA and ended up being a thirty
- 2:52Speaker 1: four minute movie.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah. We shot videos.
- 2:57Speaker 1: We shot music videos, and they're in the movie on
- 2:59Speaker 1: the TV like in the trap House, Mayhem's videos on
- 3:02Speaker 1: the TV in the Trap House, Rock Mars he's.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Building a bomb.
- 3:07Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And you know his video. I'm watching his video in
- 3:13Speaker 1: my house while he's building a bomb. In the video,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I'm holding the bomb, so it's psychedelic. It's like, I
- 3:18Speaker 1: don't know if you're familiar with Alejandro Jodoroski, So I've
- 3:21Speaker 1: compared more like a Jada Roski meets Pink Floyd with
- 3:24Speaker 1: hip hop.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy because I feel like, not like you
- 3:27Speaker 2: said back in the day, what you did was unique,
- 3:29Speaker 2: and I feel like in today's climate, doing a thirty
- 3:32Speaker 2: four minute like mini movie is unique as well. And
- 3:36Speaker 2: we've seen like movies to go along with albums. I
- 3:37Speaker 2: feel like people don't do that shit nomore because they're
- 3:39Speaker 2: like so worried about like the microwaveable attention span of
- 3:43Speaker 2: people instead of like, yo, let me do something dope, unique, creative.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I did it for me, man, I can give a fuck,
- 3:48Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I did it all for me,
- 3:49Speaker 1: Like how can I keep myself entertained? Yeah, and how
- 3:52Speaker 1: can I do something that's just fund just to get
- 3:55Speaker 1: up and do everything? I'm a little challenging something I
- 3:57Speaker 1: ain't done before. So that was the driving forced it
- 4:00Speaker 1: for me. Yeah, I done did everything I've set out
- 4:02Speaker 1: to do years ago, So you know, just keep just
- 4:05Speaker 1: keep tricking my brain and stretching myself and having a
- 4:07Speaker 1: good time doing this shit.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Is that what keeps you going? It's like, I'm doing
- 4:11Speaker 2: this for me.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Really, I do it for me.
- 4:13Speaker 1: But you know, at the same time, man, I love
- 4:15Speaker 1: I love the kind of music we make, this underground
- 4:18Speaker 1: hip hop shit that it's nothing different than I've always made.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But you know, I figure I can come here now
- 4:23Speaker 1: and just champion what's going on and just build build
- 4:27Speaker 1: this culture and make it bigger and stretch it, make
- 4:29Speaker 1: it stronger, you know what I mean, inspire the youth,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and then also give guidance and and and let them
- 4:35Speaker 1: tap into my fan base, you know what I mean,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and grab some of these youngsters and like show them,
- 4:40Speaker 1: show them the way.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Now, it's been dope to see, like your run just continue.
- 4:44Speaker 2: And I just had to talk with al recently because
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'm always trying to push rappers to do albums with
- 4:48Speaker 2: Alchemists that you know, I just did this with Jada
- 4:50Speaker 2: Kiss on the podcast. I was like, why have you
- 4:52Speaker 2: done a whole album with Alchemists?
- 4:53Speaker 3: No? Shit crazy, that'd be crazy.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But I'd like to see you, like you know, you're
- 4:57Speaker 2: like I always working with artists and like doing like
- 4:59Speaker 2: for pledged like bodies of work, whether it's like Jay
- 5:02Speaker 2: Worthy or may Him Loran, Like you're very much like
- 5:05Speaker 2: you know, it feels like you're still in your peak
- 5:07Speaker 2: and you're still like, like you said that the underground
- 5:11Speaker 2: shit has changed over the years, the quot unquote underground
- 5:13Speaker 2: hip hop shit has definitely changed from what like it
- 5:16Speaker 2: might have been in like two thousand, two thousand and
- 5:17Speaker 2: one or whatever, but like you're still like fully engaged
- 5:20Speaker 2: and like pushing that culture. And like, to me, that's
- 5:22Speaker 2: that's very dope because you know, just from a DJ perspective,
- 5:27Speaker 2: like I find the little things that keep me still
- 5:29Speaker 2: like motivated and engaged to try to like still listen
- 5:32Speaker 2: to new artists, you know what I mean. And and
- 5:35Speaker 2: so it's just dope to see you still you know,
- 5:37Speaker 2: fully fucking in it.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Bro.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah, man, you know, just having a good time, man,
- 5:41Speaker 1: and you know, just be able to just hang out
- 5:43Speaker 1: and kick it with the homies and talk some shit,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 5:47Speaker 2: What was the homage to Death Valley Why so So?
- 5:50Speaker 2: Assassin's three Death Valley on.
- 5:52Speaker 3: This because that's the title of the movie.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Okay, that's the movie that comes with it.
- 5:56Speaker 3: It's is Death Valley.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You know, it's the hottest fucking place on Earth, it
- 5:59Speaker 1: is you know what I'm saying. So and it's you know,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and one of the things in the movie is I
- 6:03Speaker 1: left La to get away from the heat, you know,
- 6:06Speaker 1: go to Death Valley.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Ironic, right, It's very ironic for sure.
- 6:10Speaker 2: What was that for you? Because you know, there's always
- 6:12Speaker 2: so many when you have so many moving parts on
- 6:15Speaker 2: a body of work. When it comes to getting an
- 6:17Speaker 2: artist to like sign off on stuff, you have to
- 6:20Speaker 2: deal with that kind of stuff.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah, every you know, a lot of everybody on this record,
- 6:24Speaker 1: I have relationships with them in the past, you know.
- 6:26Speaker 1: So it was pretty easy, man, It was pretty this
- 6:29Speaker 1: this record was pretty easy. There was nothing, nothing crazy.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Yeah. And also, like a lot of guys are independent, right.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Or you know what I'm saying, and they run in
- 6:36Speaker 1: the game a little bit different these days. Like you know, before,
- 6:38Speaker 1: dealing with majors and dealing with labels and the sign
- 6:40Speaker 1: offs and the clearances and the sample clearances. She was
- 6:44Speaker 1: a headache you know a lot of times. Right now
- 6:46Speaker 1: you can be under the radar with a lot of
- 6:47Speaker 1: this ship.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Well, I always static Selected always told me. I was
- 6:52Speaker 2: always like, hey, bro, like you guys clear it clearly samples.
- 6:55Speaker 2: And he's like, man, he's like, look, bro, we just
- 6:59Speaker 2: left you fly. And if we got to get it
- 7:01Speaker 2: clear later, that means it's doing with something.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Basically, if it's under a certain number, they ain't even coming.
- 7:06Speaker 1: They ain't wasting their time, you know, right, and and
- 7:08Speaker 1: if it pops off later, then you know it's all good.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Well, you know what sucks, dude, is like I don't
- 7:12Speaker 2: know if you've if you've experienced this from your perspective,
- 7:16Speaker 2: but a lot of like major label artists or the
- 7:20Speaker 2: labels will be very specific to make sure, like I'll
- 7:24Speaker 2: play me something with no sample. They don't even want
- 7:26Speaker 2: to clear samples any.
- 7:27Speaker 1: They don't want to deal with this shit because they
- 7:28Speaker 1: get hit hard man, Like, like a major is gonna
- 7:30Speaker 1: have to deal with that shit, you know what I mean.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And they're gonna get hit because it's a major and
- 7:33Speaker 1: they know they got bread, so they.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Go different if they don't want to do it. The
- 7:37Speaker 2: lawyer from Universals reaching out as opposed to like.
- 7:40Speaker 1: It freezes up their whole project. You know, thank god,
- 7:43Speaker 1: now they just got to pull a song or two
- 7:44Speaker 1: off a digital streaming side instead of pulling all the
- 7:46Speaker 1: records off the shelves.
- 7:48Speaker 2: That it was a lot easier. Yeah, imagine having to
- 7:50Speaker 2: go to every zero record.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Five hundred thousand records out of Tower Records, and you
- 7:54Speaker 1: know all that shit that happened. You've seen it happen
- 7:57Speaker 1: with Biz, You've seen it happen with Truth Hurts, with Dre,
- 8:01Speaker 1: with the rock Kim song that was a big Bollywood sample. Yeah,
- 8:04Speaker 1: they put that shit out and that shit got took
- 8:06Speaker 1: that shit off the shows.
- 8:06Speaker 3: That's a lot of.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Fucking money to eat you pull in a million pieces
- 8:10Speaker 1: of vinyl off the shows.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I have a random question that I've always been curious about.
- 8:15Speaker 2: On Obie Trice's album, his first album, there's the song
- 8:17Speaker 2: We All Die One Day, Tony Yao starts off shouting
- 8:21Speaker 2: out soul assassins and then, in my opinion my favorite
- 8:24Speaker 2: eminem versus ever, he shouts out be real said dog,
- 8:29Speaker 2: what was the Was there any sort of soul assassins
- 8:32Speaker 2: connection with that song? Like? Why was like Tony Yeo
- 8:35Speaker 2: shout y'all out?
- 8:35Speaker 1: Well, here's what it was man. So that song was
- 8:38Speaker 1: for the next Sol Assassin album. Oh, so that's what
- 8:41Speaker 1: that song was for. We had started it at that
- 8:43Speaker 1: time and you know, and it was like I don't
- 8:46Speaker 1: know if I want to do another one at the time,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and then Obie was working on his record and Paul's
- 8:50Speaker 1: I got can we use it for Obi when it's
- 8:51Speaker 1: time to dors, we'll do another one And I was
- 8:53Speaker 1: like absolutely, no problem was push it that way. But
- 8:56Speaker 1: that's what that ship was for.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Crazy, So that was supposed to be on the next
- 8:59Speaker 2: Sol Assassins. Wow when you heard Eminem's verse on that song,
- 9:02Speaker 2: because I think, I truly think it's the best Eminem
- 9:05Speaker 2: verse ever. And I also I think it's the most
- 9:08Speaker 2: underrated song of like that whole era of like g
- 9:11Speaker 2: Unit Shady records.
- 9:13Speaker 3: That song so crazy almost crazy. Yeah. We was managed
- 9:16Speaker 3: by Paul for like six seven years.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Yeah, so at the time, you know, we was rolling thick,
- 9:20Speaker 1: so everything was in the house back then.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So we just had a names up here shout I'm.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Gonna see him in New York next week. I love Neams.
- 9:29Speaker 2: He's great. He's just like kind of just vintage nineties,
- 9:31Speaker 2: like disrespect.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, all day long.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Man, he told me a story. He was like, yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 2: so you know his lyrics on his due, I mean,
- 9:39Speaker 2: his lyrics all the time are pretty crazy. But he
- 9:41Speaker 2: was like yeah, man, so like me and Paul went
- 9:44Speaker 2: to Spotify and we're in a room full of like
- 9:46Speaker 2: people playing of the album and he's like, that's that
- 9:49Speaker 2: was the one time I felt really awkward because like,
- 9:51Speaker 2: I have a song where I'm talking about slapping the
- 9:52Speaker 2: shit out of women, like if they disrespect and he's like,
- 9:56Speaker 2: you could just see all the women in the meeting
- 9:58Speaker 2: just like bes like visually uncomfortable, and he's like I
- 10:02Speaker 2: had to stop it and be like, guys, this is
- 10:04Speaker 2: all tongue and.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Cheek like like that. That's the best.
- 10:07Speaker 2: That's that early two thousands nineties energy.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah. Man, he came with it on this shit too. Boy.
- 10:12Speaker 3: It was good to hear.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah for sure.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Man.
- 10:14Speaker 2: What's your favorite song on the album?
- 10:15Speaker 3: Man? Oh shit, I like them all, man.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I think I went through periods or this one was
- 10:20Speaker 1: my favorite that I recorded, this one, This was my favorite.
- 10:22Speaker 1: This was my favorite. So right now, man, I'm just
- 10:25Speaker 1: you know, out here just enjoying.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, Like, let's just be clear. You have Scarface
- 10:30Speaker 2: on this album with Freddie Gibbs. You got ev Demo,
- 10:34Speaker 2: Genesis jay Worthy too. I mean, this is crazy method.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Man is Slick Rick? How do you get Slick Rick
- 10:40Speaker 2: on a record in twenty twenty three?
- 10:42Speaker 1: Just be patient, man, Just just be patient. I reached
- 10:45Speaker 1: out to you know, it's like pretty much man, the
- 10:47Speaker 1: homies all came through. I reached out and said, Rick,
- 10:49Speaker 1: we're doing this. He's a fan, yeah, a fan of mine,
- 10:51Speaker 1: and he should be and he does. He plays jump
- 10:53Speaker 1: Around every night in the show, one of his favorite songs. Ever,
- 10:57Speaker 1: So when I reached out and let him know what
- 10:58Speaker 1: I was doing, He's like, yeah, I got you. Where's
- 10:59Speaker 1: the beat? Gave him the beat and I had methemat
- 11:02Speaker 1: on it already, and you know, that was probably like
- 11:05Speaker 1: two years ago that song.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Was been doing. I want to say one of the
- 11:07Speaker 2: first singles was the record with be Real Ran and Cube, right,
- 11:12Speaker 2: And I remember seeing that and being like, Yo, you
- 11:14Speaker 2: don't see mc wren's name anywhere anymore. Nah, like that
- 11:18Speaker 2: that's a big deal to get him in Cube together
- 11:21Speaker 2: on a song in twenty twenty three. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 2: especially with be Real. Like if you just think about
- 11:26Speaker 2: like La hip hop, Like that's a crazy comedy.
- 11:28Speaker 3: That's what I was thinking, Like what do we do
- 11:30Speaker 3: with this? Man? Like b ro was on like where
- 11:32Speaker 3: do we go with this song? Right here?
- 11:33Speaker 1: And I was just like, Yo, let's get Cube and
- 11:36Speaker 1: Ran and Drey and Snoop and Snoop is gonna do
- 11:40Speaker 1: they just timing, just timing, you know what I mean.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I just wanted to talk in the intros, He's like
- 11:43Speaker 1: I got you at the time, and I was like,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I got to turn this shit in now, but give
- 11:48Speaker 1: me next time for you.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Man, I feel like your production style is so unique,
- 11:53Speaker 2: and it's like I feel like you there's producers these days,
- 11:57Speaker 2: I feel like have kind of lost the sense of
- 12:02Speaker 2: like style, at least the bigger ones. Like I feel
- 12:04Speaker 2: like a lot of these guys's beats are kind of interchangeable,
- 12:07Speaker 2: Like you could tell me that it was produced by
- 12:08Speaker 2: this person or this person. You're like, oh yeah, But
- 12:10Speaker 2: I feel like DJ Muggs your shit is so like
- 12:13Speaker 2: you have your signature sound like and I'm just curious,
- 12:17Speaker 2: like when you first started making beats, what was like
- 12:20Speaker 2: your like where did you draw inspiration from? Man?
- 12:24Speaker 1: Like, well, first, you know, coming up, man, you had
- 12:26Speaker 1: to be different and have your own style.
- 12:28Speaker 3: You was whack. You couldn't even use a sample somebody used.
- 12:31Speaker 3: If you did, you was garbage.
- 12:33Speaker 2: And you had to find your own samples.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Like original samples, like if somebody yeah, if you ah
- 12:37Speaker 1: those drums, they use those drums because there was something
- 12:39Speaker 1: about that, you know what I'm saying. And even for cypressmen,
- 12:42Speaker 1: the way we dressed the slang. We have our own slang,
- 12:45Speaker 1: you know, dressed, have our own look, have our own
- 12:47Speaker 1: musical style. So all that was important.
- 12:49Speaker 3: You was whack. You was a bidist. So for me,
- 12:51Speaker 3: I was.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I grew up with a lot of classic rock around
- 12:55Speaker 1: and and my mom was in the motown, so I
- 12:57Speaker 1: had a lot of you know, psychedelic classic rock fucking
- 13:00Speaker 1: influences Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendricks, but with hip hop, run DMC, COOJ,
- 13:07Speaker 1: Public Enemy, and then everything Molly mal did, every single
- 13:10Speaker 1: Molly mag that came out with back in those days,
- 13:12Speaker 1: it seemed like he was reinventing the game with every
- 13:13Speaker 1: fucking single.
- 13:14Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 13:15Speaker 1: When you heard the Bridge and then you heard Poison
- 13:18Speaker 1: and then you heard Raw and you was like, what
- 13:20Speaker 1: the fuck is this shit? You know what I'm saying,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and then everything Larry Smith, did you know Ultra Magnetics,
- 13:27Speaker 1: Booget Down Productions, like all that shit, right, there was
- 13:30Speaker 1: like all that like mixed up in gumbo and then
- 13:34Speaker 1: going through my filter and spit it back out.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I wasn't to say too like you were very like
- 13:38Speaker 2: engaged with what was going on in New York too,
- 13:40Speaker 2: for being a West Coast guy.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I grew up in New York. I moved here
- 13:42Speaker 1: when I was twelve, and then I would always go back.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I would always stay out there. I had an apartment
- 13:46Speaker 1: out there for like fifteen years. Yeah, I would always
- 13:48Speaker 1: be in here.
- 13:49Speaker 2: You guys did the second.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yeah, because you know, back then we start, you blow up,
- 13:54Speaker 1: and then it's just too much shit going on, friends, shit,
- 13:58Speaker 1: everybody hanging out.
- 13:59Speaker 3: I was like this over here, which is us locked
- 14:01Speaker 3: in a room by ourselves.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure you guys in LA after that first album,
- 14:05Speaker 2: the studio sessions, Yeah, help would.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Be distracted and everybody was. You couldn't and then everybody
- 14:11Speaker 1: was busy. You know, there's all these new people around
- 14:13Speaker 1: and this and that and millions of dollars, you know,
- 14:15Speaker 1: and we're twenty one years old. So it was like,
- 14:17Speaker 1: let's go to New York and it's just us getting up,
- 14:20Speaker 1: going to the studio, back to the crib, back to
- 14:22Speaker 1: the studio.
- 14:23Speaker 3: That's all we did.
- 14:24Speaker 2: That shit's fire Man, and.
- 14:26Speaker 3: We knocked that shit out in a month. The record.
- 14:29Speaker 3: We knocked that record out of the month.
- 14:30Speaker 1: The label was like, we need that shit now, so
- 14:33Speaker 1: we went in and knocked it out right quick. I
- 14:36Speaker 1: suppose the first record took like three four years. It
- 14:38Speaker 1: was a whole life, you know, up to that point.
- 14:40Speaker 1: The second one, I think we only did I think
- 14:43Speaker 1: some of the songs even came out before. I think
- 14:44Speaker 1: we only did eight songs new ones because we had
- 14:48Speaker 1: hand on the glock had already came out. A t
- 14:51Speaker 1: DK came out, a White Man Can't Jump soundtrack, Yep,
- 14:53Speaker 1: you know what I mean. There was a couple of
- 14:54Speaker 1: interludes on there, so you know, some of that shit
- 14:57Speaker 1: had came out already, but that shit was fucking and
- 15:00Speaker 1: then sound Scan was brand new when that record came out.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I forgot. SoundScan wasn't around, Like.
- 15:06Speaker 3: It just came out like in between our first and
- 15:08Speaker 3: second album.
- 15:09Speaker 2: No, it's crazy too, because I just think, like in
- 15:11Speaker 2: terms of, like, you know, for whatever reason, I feel
- 15:14Speaker 2: like somehow Cypress Hill gets like overlooked when we talk
- 15:18Speaker 2: about like goat conversations like greatest groups of all time.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like if you grew up in
- 15:24Speaker 2: LA or you grew up on the West Coast, you understand.
- 15:26Speaker 2: But I feel like, for whatever reason, you guys are
- 15:28Speaker 2: not underrated, but somehow underrated. Does that make sense, Like
- 15:31Speaker 2: you guys are still doing festivals, it's I mean, platinum records,
- 15:35Speaker 2: But I still feel like for whatever reason, like like
- 15:37Speaker 2: we got to bring up that name in the mixed
- 15:39Speaker 2: more when we talk about the greatest groups of all time?
- 15:41Speaker 3: Right right right? Yeah?
- 15:43Speaker 1: Man, I don't know shit. I can give a fuck,
- 15:45Speaker 1: you know what I mean. What we set out to do,
- 15:46Speaker 1: we're doing it, you know what I mean. So that's
- 15:48Speaker 1: all I give a fuck about.
- 15:49Speaker 2: So how did you end up getting with House of
- 15:51Speaker 2: Pain back in the day before? Cause I knew you
- 15:54Speaker 2: guys had a little falling out for.
- 15:55Speaker 3: A sec, but it was an accident.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Man, Like I was dating this girl that actually was
- 16:01Speaker 1: cousins of Everlast his DJ, and I would go over
- 16:05Speaker 1: there and he'd be at the crib and I'd be
- 16:07Speaker 1: like all right and the Cypress demo the Cypress we
- 16:10Speaker 1: was signed already, but the album. I had the album
- 16:13Speaker 1: on the red cassette and I gave it to her,
- 16:15Speaker 1: but the album didn't come out for six months. So
- 16:17Speaker 1: the next time I went over there a couple of times,
- 16:19Speaker 1: Everlast was there. He was listening to the tape. He's like, yo,
- 16:22Speaker 1: we got to get in the studio. I was like, nah,
- 16:23Speaker 1: I'm good man. And after three or four times, I
- 16:26Speaker 1: was like, I was talking to b real and Bro
- 16:28Speaker 1: was like, man, just fuck it funk with him. I
- 16:29Speaker 1: was like, all right, So I went in and did
- 16:31Speaker 1: put your head out the crib and I was like, Okay,
- 16:34Speaker 1: this is cool. Then the homies was bumping it, and
- 16:37Speaker 1: then I was like, I got the song called jump Around,
- 16:40Speaker 1: so I had already recorded it with Soundobe. I recorded
- 16:42Speaker 1: it with Daddy Freddy from Ragg Him Up and Hip Hop,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and I had a song had the hook. He came
- 16:47Speaker 1: in and wrote the shit and I was like, now
- 16:49Speaker 1: rewrite it with that cadence right there, and he wrote
- 16:50Speaker 1: the shit and then we had to joint and to.
- 16:53Speaker 2: One of the greatest party songs of all time.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Shop Shop the deal Man I know funk Master Flex
- 16:57Speaker 1: wanted to sign us that priority records for like I
- 17:00Speaker 1: think it was like fifty five sixty g's. He had
- 17:02Speaker 1: special head over there. At the time.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I didn't even know fuck Flex worked at Priory. He's crazy.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And then it was weird because Monica Lynch show for
- 17:10Speaker 1: a Tommy Boy wanted to sign us, and so I
- 17:13Speaker 1: went and had a meeting with her, and she was like,
- 17:14Speaker 1: she was irish, so she's like, this reminds me of
- 17:17Speaker 1: my family. This is like my brothers would go to church,
- 17:21Speaker 1: then they'd go to uh to the bar and get
- 17:23Speaker 1: drunk and fight. So she got it and off the bat,
- 17:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So she signed us. She
- 17:29Speaker 1: got us like three hundred dollars back then, and then
- 17:32Speaker 1: I hooked him up in our management. The guys who
- 17:34Speaker 1: did offer our pictures. Huke up with those guys, and
- 17:36Speaker 1: David Press, who did our video, I come up with them.
- 17:38Speaker 1: So it was pretty much the formula.
- 17:40Speaker 2: So you kind of just say, here's our formula, run
- 17:42Speaker 2: with it.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Run with it, and it worked and worked with it
- 17:44Speaker 3: like a motherfucker.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Like a motherfucker yo, I always wondered. So there was
- 17:49Speaker 2: like this era I'm really close with Dilated People's and
- 17:52Speaker 2: Raka and Iris Science and Bamboo and obviously Shot I
- 17:55Speaker 2: did the best. Hell yeah, I love those guys. They
- 17:58Speaker 2: really opened my world taste in another whole other way
- 18:02Speaker 2: to like digging into like different ship that I was
- 18:05Speaker 2: into at the time. But I remember as a kid
- 18:08Speaker 2: there was the random because you were close, like you
- 18:12Speaker 2: were cool with Paul obviously right, you're cool with M.
- 18:15Speaker 2: But then there's like this weird beef between like Dilated
- 18:18Speaker 2: People's Everlasting. Emine, did you ever try to like bring
- 18:21Speaker 2: those guys together? Nah?
- 18:22Speaker 3: It was weird, man.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I think I think Everlast from what I remember correctly,
- 18:27Speaker 1: you know, don't quote me here, but I think Everlast
- 18:29Speaker 1: scene M on the elevator and M just didn't say
- 18:32Speaker 1: nothing to him. But M's like he didn't look the
- 18:34Speaker 1: same right and didn't realize that he was He didn't
- 18:36Speaker 1: realize who he was made right, and and was a
- 18:39Speaker 1: fucking Everlast fan, you know from what I hear, so
- 18:42Speaker 1: Everlast just you know, I don't know what happened.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Then he wrote some shit about.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Him, Yeah, and then I remember there was like the
- 18:48Speaker 2: Dilated Ship and then Evidence had a song called Searching
- 18:51Speaker 2: for Bobby Fisher. So I was just wondering because you
- 18:53Speaker 2: were kind of like, it's felt like Switzerland. You might
- 18:56Speaker 2: have you know, I don't know if you try to
- 18:57Speaker 2: put a call in.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Nah nah, I just figured all that y'all fucked up.
- 19:01Speaker 1: You're fucking with them. Got good luck with that ship man,
- 19:04Speaker 1: like even why But I don't even think I heard
- 19:06Speaker 1: the Dilated song ever.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah, there was an evidence song called searching for Bobby Fisher.
- 19:10Speaker 3: That was that.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I heard that one now, but I had a napster hit. Yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 1: so yeah, I brought Paul. I remember when I met Paul.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I flew him out to LA to meet with me
- 19:18Speaker 1: and I had a barbecue to manage Cyprus and he
- 19:20Speaker 1: came out here. And that's how I met Paul because
- 19:22Speaker 1: the Theo Theo was my lawyer and I was like, yeah,
- 19:24Speaker 1: I need a new manager, bro, And he's like, well
- 19:27Speaker 1: you resist before before Rock Superstar album, so like two
- 19:31Speaker 1: thousand ninety nine, and he's like, yo, I got this
- 19:35Speaker 1: this lawyer. He's got an ear like me, and he's
- 19:38Speaker 1: managing this artist Eminem And we didn't blow up there.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I was like, I flew his ass out, had a
- 19:43Speaker 1: barbecue and locked in with Paul what.
- 19:45Speaker 2: What was was? It labeled like why did you guys
- 19:47Speaker 2: do a rap superstar and a rock superstar? Difference?
- 19:50Speaker 3: Because check this out. So we was up at Columbia
- 19:53Speaker 3: and you know, now we're going into the fifth album,
- 19:57Speaker 3: so we'd go to the Urban Department.
- 19:59Speaker 2: That was after the after Doctor Green number before after
- 20:02Speaker 2: after That's right.
- 20:03Speaker 1: It was like, yeah, that was four. There was a
- 20:05Speaker 1: fifth album now. So we would go up to the
- 20:07Speaker 1: label and was like, all right, this scoose is marketing plan.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I go to the Urban Department. There was like, no, no,
- 20:11Speaker 1: you guys are you guys are alternative?
- 20:13Speaker 3: Like no, we ain't.
- 20:14Speaker 1: So we go up to the We go up to
- 20:16Speaker 1: the next floor and they was like no, you guys
- 20:18Speaker 1: are the Urban Department. And they didn't work together, and
- 20:21Speaker 1: everybody's passing the buck. Nobody wanted to do their fucking job,
- 20:24Speaker 1: and I was like, fucking pieces of shit.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Check this out.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you all a rock song and a
- 20:28Speaker 1: rap song. So now what's your fucking excuse?
- 20:30Speaker 2: You can work?
- 20:31Speaker 3: You got one? You got one? So I did.
- 20:33Speaker 1: We had a song called Can't Get the Best of
- 20:34Speaker 1: Me and Rap Superstar, and then I walked into the
- 20:37Speaker 1: meeting with Donnieina and he was like, no, this is
- 20:40Speaker 1: the single. We're not doing rock song, but this is
- 20:43Speaker 1: the single. I'm putting all the money behind this one.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I was like, Fuck, this ain't gonna work. So I
- 20:47Speaker 1: went in the studio a couple of days later and
- 20:49Speaker 1: did the remix for Rock Superstar.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Wow. Okay, got to stop the interview real quick to

- 23:22Speaker 2: soxofficial dot Com promo code bootleg. Go over there, get
- 23:25Speaker 2: twenty percent off. Right now, let's get back to the interview. Yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 2: because I was because coming from the radio side, you know,
- 23:32Speaker 2: I've done radio my whole life, and like you said,
- 23:35Speaker 2: there's sometimes where there be a record like uh there
- 23:39Speaker 2: was a shot on my I have a friend a
- 23:41Speaker 2: yellow Wolf foo at a song and he put a
- 23:43Speaker 2: song out through Shady called Let's Roll. But Kid Rock
- 23:47Speaker 2: was on the hook, so he ran into that issue
- 23:50Speaker 2: where he was like a hip hop artist. But they're like,
- 23:52Speaker 2: we don't know what to.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Do with it because you know it's like hip hop andspa.
- 23:54Speaker 1: But it's like we grew bigger than hip hop. We
- 23:56Speaker 1: just became our own thing. You know, for sure, we
- 23:59Speaker 1: got so big and you know, just harnessing that rock
- 24:03Speaker 1: and roll energy, like I said, Public Enemy, ll run DMC,
- 24:07Speaker 1: Beastie boys, you know what I mean, and just coming
- 24:09Speaker 1: from that DNA from that side. And so that's why
- 24:12Speaker 1: I was like, all right, here's something from both of y'all.
- 24:14Speaker 1: But both of y'all can work and nobody can complain
- 24:16Speaker 1: and point fingers because the record before they dropped the
- 24:18Speaker 1: ball because nobody was working it, because there was nobody
- 24:20Speaker 1: wanted to do their fucking job. The point fingers, right,
- 24:23Speaker 1: So I say, maybe this is the way the way
- 24:25Speaker 1: around it. And plus at that time, you know, I
- 24:27Speaker 1: was seeing all these whack motherfuckers that couldn't really rhyme,
- 24:30Speaker 1: but they was wrapping on rock shit where they sounded decent,
- 24:33Speaker 1: you know, and they was having these big careers.
- 24:34Speaker 3: What year was that, ninety nine?
- 24:37Speaker 2: That was very much that was very much the the
- 24:40Speaker 2: era of that happening.
- 24:41Speaker 1: So then I was on the and the other layer
- 24:44Speaker 1: to that shit was me like, oh yeah, well, oh yeah,
- 24:45Speaker 1: I could do this shit too. Yes, we do some
- 24:47Speaker 1: rock shit and let me let me bang on y'all
- 24:49Speaker 1: motherfuckers with this ship. And then at the same time
- 24:51Speaker 1: I produced them some shit for Pearl Jam and Sonic
- 24:55Speaker 1: Youth Crazy. I mean, it's some different rock bands just
- 24:58Speaker 1: to like let me see what I can do and just.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Don't you know you did to a tumble pro Jam
- 25:01Speaker 2: that's amazing. Shout out to Pro Jam, Yo. You guys
- 25:04Speaker 2: were a part of like some of the crazy, you know.
- 25:07Speaker 2: I always tell people like there was festivals, and like
- 25:09Speaker 2: people think of festivals these days, I feel like festivals
- 25:12Speaker 2: in like the late nineties early two thousands were like
- 25:15Speaker 2: extremely like different.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Everything was different.
- 25:19Speaker 2: The drugs were really out there.
- 25:20Speaker 3: The nineties was the shit, man.
- 25:21Speaker 1: It was like it was one of the best times
- 25:23Speaker 1: period and I'm blessed to be able to be in
- 25:25Speaker 1: that time. And then also this new time with all
- 25:27Speaker 1: this new technology, for sure be able to be in
- 25:30Speaker 1: an analog world in this digital.
- 25:31Speaker 2: NB relevant in both. But I was gonna ask you,
- 25:33Speaker 2: what is like the craziest crowd where you you guys
- 25:36Speaker 2: were performing and you just looked out and you were like,
- 25:39Speaker 2: what the fuck is going on?
- 25:40Speaker 1: A couple of times, one of them was was the
- 25:42Speaker 1: Wedding Festival. We were the first rap group to ever
- 25:44Speaker 1: headline reading, you know, one hundred and fifty thousand crazy
- 25:47Speaker 1: looking at that, and then you know, motherfuckers with the
- 25:49Speaker 1: soccer chants and everybody with the flags, you know what
- 25:51Speaker 1: I mean?
- 25:52Speaker 3: It just looked like some revolution shit.
- 25:53Speaker 1: And then it was probably the ninety three Woodstock ninety
- 25:57Speaker 1: three Woodstock five one hundred and fifty thousand people. They
- 26:00Speaker 1: had to fly us into a helicopter because the traffic
- 26:02Speaker 1: was fucking five hour traffic jams.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yet I just watched the ninety nine Woodstock documentary, which
- 26:08Speaker 2: was looked insane. Yeah, ninety three had to be crazy.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Half a million people, half a million people. Who do
- 26:12Speaker 2: you remember who was on the bill with you?
- 26:15Speaker 1: I think Santana was after us. And because we were
- 26:18Speaker 1: in and out, there wasn't even dressrooms.
- 26:20Speaker 2: It was we don't want y'all hanging out in and out.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's the only one I remember.
- 26:25Speaker 2: That's fucking crazy, man.
- 26:26Speaker 1: But a lot of palooz was popping off back then,
- 26:28Speaker 1: smoking groove tours, you know, we did every smoking grooves
- 26:30Speaker 1: pretty much, like five of them.
- 26:31Speaker 3: In a row. Yo.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Has there ever been like somebody who's for whatever reason
- 26:36Speaker 2: escaped you in terms of someone you want to work with,
- 26:38Speaker 2: because I feel like you've worked with so many people.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Nah, man, I'm all about building, man. Like even with Cyprus,
- 26:44Speaker 1: I was like, I never wanted to be a producer,
- 26:46Speaker 1: where like my me coming up was depending on somebody
- 26:49Speaker 1: else's success, right, So I was like, we was always
- 26:52Speaker 1: about building our own shit. No guest appearances, our own shit,
- 26:55Speaker 1: do our own shit, you know what I mean. And
- 26:58Speaker 1: even even now, I like newer artists, like working with
- 27:02Speaker 1: with a tf like young in Rome Streets.
- 27:04Speaker 3: When I first met Rome crazy.
- 27:06Speaker 1: You know, all Rome's fucking boom, you know, pre Gazelda
- 27:09Speaker 1: days and just finding these youngsters, I get more. I
- 27:11Speaker 1: got more excitement out of that ship, you know, But no,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I think it probably shod day, you know what I mean.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I'd want to work with shod Day. But there's nobody
- 27:20Speaker 1: that that. Everybody anybody else I really tripping.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Did you ever get close to doing anything with Hove?
- 27:27Speaker 3: Nah? I never. I don't even think I met him.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Crazy, that's crazy, you would think for you, because you've
- 27:34Speaker 2: been doing a lot of full collab albums. I think
- 27:36Speaker 2: back to like one of the first producer MC albums
- 27:41Speaker 2: to me that I kind of just heralded, like very
- 27:43Speaker 2: high in my life was the first album you did
- 27:46Speaker 2: with the JIT album, the Masterminds Grand Master's Grand Masters. Yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 2: crazy body of work. But you've still done, like you've
- 27:53Speaker 2: done such a good job of like doing these like fully,
- 27:57Speaker 2: you know, cohesive collaborative albums with other artists. I feel
- 28:00Speaker 2: like a lot of people are kind of doing that
- 28:02Speaker 2: now as well.
- 28:04Speaker 3: It wasn't on it like that.
- 28:05Speaker 2: It wasn't on it the first guy I really kind
- 28:08Speaker 2: of did that.
- 28:08Speaker 3: You had to do in Versus Records.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Yeah, just Asia ill Bill we did back in like
- 28:14Speaker 1: what two three, I think it was something like that,
- 28:16Speaker 1: oh four. Yeah, Me and Jiz are always clicked, man. From
- 28:18Speaker 1: the first day we got into lab, we always clicked, man,
- 28:20Speaker 1: And it was just everything was smooth and easy, and
- 28:23Speaker 1: you know, We just kept communicating all through the times,
- 28:25Speaker 1: you know, and kept in touch and then we then
- 28:29Speaker 1: we got together into Grand Masters. But it was a
- 28:31Speaker 1: weird time because at that time, it was right after
- 28:34Speaker 1: Napster and the fucking the whole ass fell out the
- 28:37Speaker 1: music industry. So we went from selling underground records two
- 28:40Speaker 1: hundred and fifty thousand records to selling fucking five thousand records.
- 28:44Speaker 1: So it was before YouTube, it was before Spotify, it
- 28:48Speaker 1: was before Apple Music, and then the music the records
- 28:52Speaker 1: weren't selling, so you was there.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Was like this three or four year period. We was like,
- 28:55Speaker 3: what the fuck's going on?
- 28:56Speaker 2: Brow, how do we monetize it?
- 28:58Speaker 1: Nobody knew what was going on. It was a weird
- 29:00Speaker 1: ass time, you know what I mean. So alls I
- 29:02Speaker 1: know is you just stay consistent to keep going. That's
- 29:05Speaker 1: the one thing about my crew man from me Al
- 29:08Speaker 1: Cartoon is Stevan Cyprus. We just never stopped. Yeah, just
- 29:12Speaker 1: never stopped through it all.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I was gonna ask you, what is something that you've
- 29:16Speaker 2: because you're obviously, like you said, there was that point
- 29:20Speaker 2: in time where you've been a part of every for
- 29:23Speaker 2: the most part, era of hip hop in terms of
- 29:24Speaker 2: like the way the business is right, Like you guys
- 29:26Speaker 2: first came home with SoundScan, hit now with faster.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Eighties like eighties. My first group, you gotta remember, with
- 29:30Speaker 1: seven A three. I didn't know in nineteen eighty eight.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Like my first gold record was Colors seven A three
- 29:35Speaker 1: mad Man World in the movie Colors. So I signed
- 29:38Speaker 1: with seven A three in eighty eight and we was,
- 29:41Speaker 1: we signed a rush management shot and we're doing stadium tours,
- 29:46Speaker 1: opening up for Salt and Pepper, opening up for Hammer,
- 29:48Speaker 1: opening up for Tony Tony tone Em Hammer. Yeah, we
- 29:52Speaker 1: was on the tour with Hammer, Tony, Tony Tony and today.
- 29:55Speaker 2: What's the mc hammer tour?
- 29:56Speaker 3: Like back then, stadiums crazy as fuck.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Like I don't think people understand like he was like
- 30:01Speaker 2: a fucking like pop star for real. Super I have
- 30:04Speaker 2: an mc hammer Barbie.
- 30:05Speaker 3: I'm talking, I'm talking.
- 30:07Speaker 2: You see mc hammer Barbie sitting now, yeah.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Talking, you know, twenty five thousand people a night and
- 30:11Speaker 1: it's doing stadiums Man's you know, and then Salt and Pepper,
- 30:14Speaker 1: Kwame was on the tour. Wow, so you know, just
- 30:17Speaker 1: being young, and then i'd come back to Cypress, you know,
- 30:19Speaker 1: and like I'm eighteen nineteen and I was like, yo,
- 30:22Speaker 1: figuring this music shit out fellas, you know what I mean.
- 30:24Speaker 1: So seven eighty three really taught me about the music business,
- 30:28Speaker 1: and I just brought all that fucking knowledge back to
- 30:29Speaker 1: Cypress because there was no Google or right even even
- 30:33Speaker 1: to learn the DJ, I had to go to the
- 30:34Speaker 1: club and watch the DJ and fucking listen to the radio.
- 30:38Speaker 3: That's how I learned. There was no scratch Academy and
- 30:41Speaker 3: no shit.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Right, none of that. You just had to really just
- 30:43Speaker 2: learn on the job.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Just watch, watch and try to remember and figure it out.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Was I always heard mc Everyone always says Hammers like
- 30:50Speaker 2: a real ass dude, for real, for real, like he's certified.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Like but but you also hear like he always had
- 30:54Speaker 2: like a big entourage with him.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Oh he had a big assentsraage.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Yeah, like you you'd come on the stage, you know,
- 30:59Speaker 1: your little hype man and maybe one little dancer, and
- 31:02Speaker 1: he'd come out with like sixteen dancers, crazy, you know
- 31:05Speaker 1: what I mean, and a hype man that was like
- 31:06Speaker 1: Little John back then, like screaming and shit talking shit.
- 31:09Speaker 3: So yeah, that was crazy man.
- 31:12Speaker 1: It was a good experience to have those tours, you know,
- 31:14Speaker 1: and then with cypress you like I already knew. I
- 31:17Speaker 1: already knew what's going to happen. I was like, the
- 31:19Speaker 1: success is waiting for us in the future. We just
- 31:21Speaker 1: got to get to it.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Fellas I was gonna say for you, though, what are
- 31:26Speaker 2: the things that you could give advice to somebody who's
- 31:29Speaker 2: an independent artist, maybe has like a modest following. How
- 31:32Speaker 2: can they really monetize music now? Because I feel like
- 31:36Speaker 2: it's not what it used to be. Streaming doesn't pay
- 31:39Speaker 2: the greatest.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Well, you got to build a career, man, So I
- 31:42Speaker 1: think you got a tour. You got to go through shows, man,
- 31:45Speaker 1: even if you're not getting paid. You go playing for
- 31:47Speaker 1: the nine people, always doing the place. The next time
- 31:50Speaker 1: you're playing from the twenty, next time you're playing front
- 31:52Speaker 1: the thirty five. You know, in two years and be
- 31:53Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty people there. So the energy of
- 31:56Speaker 1: the shows, and make sure you have your merch and
- 31:58Speaker 1: you're doing your pop ups and you're live on it,
- 32:00Speaker 1: and you're live on social media talking to your people,
- 32:02Speaker 1: you know, and then doing your streaming and be consistent.
- 32:05Speaker 1: And I think all that ship together. You you put
- 32:08Speaker 1: that together, and you stay consistent, you build a career.
- 32:10Speaker 1: You know, some motherfuckers just want to like stream ship
- 32:14Speaker 1: and maybe might get a show in New York and
- 32:15Speaker 1: then that's it. Or you might get a show and
- 32:18Speaker 1: then they don't They get money there, but they don't
- 32:20Speaker 1: want to go do shows in other cities because there's
- 32:22Speaker 1: no bread. But I was like, you got to go
- 32:23Speaker 1: plant the flag.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Bro, You you got to build the fan base.
- 32:25Speaker 3: You gotta go build it.
- 32:27Speaker 2: I always tell people like, just because you have a
- 32:28Speaker 2: big song doesn't mean you have a big following. There's
- 32:31Speaker 2: people who have platinum records that can't sell a fucking
- 32:33Speaker 2: concert ticket period, Like.
- 32:35Speaker 3: And that's going to tell you where you're what fans
- 32:37Speaker 3: you really have? Man?
- 32:38Speaker 1: Is it like are you actually getting streams because you
- 32:40Speaker 1: have features? Or are you getting streams because you have
- 32:44Speaker 1: fans that really love you? And then that's going to
- 32:46Speaker 1: translate to those people will come out and don't support
- 32:48Speaker 1: you shirt.
- 32:51Speaker 3: So a lot of that ships.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It's a little pumped up, you know what I mean
- 32:53Speaker 1: when you got a lot of features on your records,
- 32:55Speaker 1: because you'll see all you don't you can't sell a
- 32:56Speaker 1: hard ticket outside of you can't even sell a hard
- 32:59Speaker 1: ticket in your city.
- 32:59Speaker 3: You can only get on shows with motherfuckers.
- 33:02Speaker 2: I was gonna ask you, you tell me the story
- 33:06Speaker 2: on how you and Alchemist met and how he became
- 33:08Speaker 2: a part of the sol.
- 33:10Speaker 3: I met al when he was like thirteen.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I had this manager and they was like, hey, you
- 33:15Speaker 1: want to make a lot of money, and I was like,
- 33:17Speaker 1: well when you talk about six. So we got this
- 33:18Speaker 1: little rap group, two little white kids from Beverly Hills,
- 33:22Speaker 1: and I was like, get that bullshit the fuck out here.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Yeah it was James Conson.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Yeah. I didn't meet him. I didn't see him.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I was just like the concept of that shit was like,
- 33:28Speaker 1: were you trying to do like a criss cross?
- 33:30Speaker 3: Yeah, but white Chris Raby House of Pain.
- 33:32Speaker 1: And I was like, so I think they ended up
- 33:34Speaker 1: bringing him to be real and be real work with him.
- 33:36Speaker 1: But then I met al and I was like, Oh,
- 33:37Speaker 1: this is kid's cool as fuck. He reminds me of me,
- 33:40Speaker 1: like just like just tenacious, fucking worker, like worker and
- 33:43Speaker 1: just the love and the fucking and smart and just
- 33:46Speaker 1: work and work and work and.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Just on point.
- 33:48Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, I'm gonna give this kid access
- 33:51Speaker 1: and let him be around and then like I'm gonna
- 33:53Speaker 1: just cut all this shit you have to go through
- 33:55Speaker 1: and just put you right here.
- 33:56Speaker 3: You were the biggest group in the world.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Now in the studio, going on tour, hanging out, you
- 34:01Speaker 1: know what I mean, and just like give him access
- 34:02Speaker 1: because I knew all he needed to do is be
- 34:04Speaker 1: around it. He's such a fucking smart kid and such
- 34:06Speaker 1: a sponge. You'll figure it out, you know what I mean.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Just give him access to the ship.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Was it was he always wanting to step away from
- 34:14Speaker 2: rapping and just focus on producing.
- 34:16Speaker 1: When I met him, he didn't make beatsh it okay,
- 34:18Speaker 1: And then when he did that first time, they was
- 34:20Speaker 1: they wasn't there. He was learning learning, he was really
- 34:24Speaker 1: he was a real premier fan and and it was
- 34:27Speaker 1: just like you know, some sea level premiere like kids ship,
- 34:29Speaker 1: and he was just I'll be like, nah, that's not it, bro.
- 34:32Speaker 1: But you knew, like I always knew, Il has that
- 34:36Speaker 1: that that's it, that it thing, that special fucking thing.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Like he's just fuck whatever Al decided he wanted to do,
- 34:42Speaker 1: he was going to be successful in it, you know
- 34:43Speaker 1: what I mean. He's just that smart and that fucking
- 34:45Speaker 1: that that much of a hard worker and that got
- 34:47Speaker 1: that much focus. So you know, we just brought him,
- 34:51Speaker 1: put him under my wings. Like, you know, he starts
- 34:53Speaker 1: seeing how records, albums are made, how studio sessions are run,
- 34:57Speaker 1: you know, and the little tricks, the little behind the
- 34:59Speaker 1: ship going on to over us, carrying the crates and shit,
- 35:02Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You're on fucking big festival tours,
- 35:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean, at fucking fifteen years old,
- 35:08Speaker 1: leaving school.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Crazy, and then eventually you know, now he's he's
- 35:11Speaker 2: alchemist Grabby Navina.
- 35:14Speaker 3: He's the illess in the game right now.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Man, I agree, Man, I was just saying, like his
- 35:19Speaker 2: like last couple of year run has been like it's
- 35:22Speaker 2: so crazy, Like think about the stuff he's done with Boldie,
- 35:25Speaker 2: with Freddy, Like he's just been just relentless.
- 35:28Speaker 1: He hasn't done nothing different. He's been working this hard
- 35:30Speaker 1: all these years. It's just you know, it's just timing.
- 35:32Speaker 1: It's just it's the perfect storm.
- 35:33Speaker 3: You know.
- 35:33Speaker 1: It's like the way the music is and the way
- 35:36Speaker 1: the the what we like, the culture's growing, and then
- 35:40Speaker 1: just the right artists at the right times with all
- 35:42Speaker 1: the momentum he's built up over the years.
- 35:44Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 35:45Speaker 2: I was gonna ask you your production process, how much
- 35:47Speaker 2: has it changed over the years, because back in the day,
- 35:49Speaker 2: everybody we have their go to equipment. Nowadays, like I'll
- 35:53Speaker 2: like know guys who I never ever thought would touch
- 35:56Speaker 2: like a digital platform, like who will only be on
- 35:59Speaker 2: able to They'll only be on pro tools, like what
- 36:01Speaker 2: is your y?
- 36:03Speaker 1: It was the same for me, man, I was using
- 36:04Speaker 1: the SP twelve. I moved over to the MPC and
- 36:07Speaker 1: then it just I wanted to do some electronic shit
- 36:10Speaker 1: for fun, and I was like, how do you do
- 36:12Speaker 1: this shit? And oh, I can't do it on this shit.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I got to learn this fucking computer. And I was
- 36:18Speaker 1: like I was the last motherfucker bro to fuck with
- 36:20Speaker 1: the computer.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Like you were hanging on to this.
- 36:21Speaker 1: I was hanging on a two inch everything, and I
- 36:24Speaker 1: was just like fuck it. So I just took a
- 36:25Speaker 1: year and just worked on some electronic music and just
- 36:28Speaker 1: took a year and just dialed, just worked on the
- 36:31Speaker 1: machine until I figured out, like, oh I can get
- 36:33Speaker 1: my sound out of this thing. Because it turned into
- 36:36Speaker 1: a lot more sound designing and you know, getting into
- 36:39Speaker 1: the fucking the effects.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Yet there's plugins for everything.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and then having having not having to have a
- 36:44Speaker 3: big studio and learn everything and fucking plugging everything in
- 36:47Speaker 3: and just having it right there my fingertips. I was like,
- 36:50Speaker 3: actually it started getting fun again for me, super fun again,
- 36:53Speaker 3: you know. And then and then my daughter got to
- 36:57Speaker 3: a certain age where I was like, oh, I don't
- 36:58Speaker 3: got to fucking be there all time.
- 37:00Speaker 1: So you know, it's like six years ago. That's when
- 37:02Speaker 1: I was like, oh, it's about me again. Now it's
- 37:04Speaker 1: my time. Kids are raised. Shit's all good, all right, y'all.
- 37:08Speaker 1: I love everybody, but it's my time. I'm gonna be
- 37:10Speaker 1: greedy now. It's the most freeze.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I've ever goneve dive right back in.
- 37:14Speaker 1: So I think we've done like, you know, thirty four
- 37:16Speaker 1: to thirty five projects in the last six years.
- 37:18Speaker 2: All right, we got to stop the interview real quick.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Tell you about our folks at my Bookie, our partners

- 40:06Speaker 2: but if you had to give me outside of the
- 40:08Speaker 2: Cypher shit, what's been like two or three that stick
- 40:11Speaker 2: out in your mind in terms of like your favorite
- 40:13Speaker 2: collaborative projects you've done.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Man, it's a lot of them. I just enjoy what
- 40:17Speaker 1: I enjoy, man, is just working with people. You know,
- 40:20Speaker 1: you got to be a cool motherfucker because sitting a
- 40:23Speaker 1: fucking studio with you for.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Two months, you know what I mean? Yeah, we gotta
- 40:26Speaker 3: like you rather go walk my dog, you know what
- 40:28Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 40:28Speaker 1: So, you know Mayhem. Every time I work with Mayhem
- 40:31Speaker 1: AND's some fucking blessing. It's great, you know what I mean?
- 40:33Speaker 1: I love working with may Man, TF Rome Worthy, you know,
- 40:39Speaker 1: fucking all these motherfuckers is as cool as fuck.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Man, Who's who's at all the mcs you've ever worked with?
- 40:46Speaker 2: Who's the fastest when it comes to just the writing process.
- 40:51Speaker 1: It used to be, It used to be MC eight
- 40:54Speaker 1: and then now I went in with them. I went
- 40:57Speaker 1: in with Cassius one time, and me and Cassius did
- 41:00Speaker 1: four songs in like a few hours, and then Crime
- 41:03Speaker 1: Apple came in and did like six songs and four hours.
- 41:07Speaker 1: I think when I first met him, damn. And And
- 41:11Speaker 1: what was cool about Crime is he was supposed to
- 41:13Speaker 1: go back to New York and then it was like
- 41:16Speaker 1: he came to my radio show and I was like, yo,
- 41:18Speaker 1: if you want to come jump in the lab them all.
- 41:20Speaker 1: He was like, I'm supposed to go home, but I'm staying.
- 41:22Speaker 1: So he stayed did the radio show and you know,
- 41:24Speaker 1: now we've done a couple of hours and travel the
- 41:26Speaker 1: world together.
- 41:27Speaker 2: That's amazing for you. What is what has changed about
- 41:31Speaker 2: because being on the road, you've seen kind of all
- 41:34Speaker 2: fascet of that as well. Is it still fun for
- 41:37Speaker 2: you to go out and do shows and see the
- 41:40Speaker 2: fans in person?
- 41:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I do it more limited, you know, like I
- 41:45Speaker 1: still have a good time though, Yeah, I still love
- 41:47Speaker 1: a good time, like because I don't have to do it,
- 41:49Speaker 1: but like I like to do it, and so when
- 41:50Speaker 1: I want to do it, I was like, okay, there's
- 41:52Speaker 1: three weeks I'm gonna go do shows, and you know,
- 41:54Speaker 1: a couple of times a year, I'd grab a month
- 41:56Speaker 1: as to go do some shows.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Yo, when you guys were doing like the early cybersoship,
- 42:00Speaker 2: are you guys like on any psychedelics back of the
- 42:02Speaker 2: day shrooms shrooming? Would you say? Like, cause, I don't
- 42:07Speaker 2: know if you've noticed, but shrooms are kind of becoming
- 42:09Speaker 2: like the.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Thing right now. So they see that. No, it was
- 42:12Speaker 3: on that ship in the eighties.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Man, it's crazy to see it. It's like it's like normalized.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Like it's like people like are like micro dos to
- 42:18Speaker 2: go to work, Like every wrapper wants shrooms.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Like, yeah, I never seen that coming ever. They were
- 42:23Speaker 1: always scared of that shit, you know what I mean.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 42:26Speaker 3: It was funny because even back in the days, there
- 42:27Speaker 3: was no pills in the hood.
- 42:28Speaker 1: The pills were the rock and rollers was fucking with pills.
- 42:31Speaker 1: They've never seen pills in the hood ever, you know
- 42:33Speaker 1: what I mean. Now everybody's popping.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Pills, and I mean stay away fedanel.
- 42:37Speaker 1: No, there wasn't none of that shit was around. We
- 42:39Speaker 1: was kids, like nobody. We didn't even see pills. Man,
- 42:41Speaker 1: it was just weed and shrooms.
- 42:43Speaker 2: What have you ever had a really bad trip on shrooms?
- 42:46Speaker 3: No, never had a bad trip.
- 42:48Speaker 2: That's good.
- 42:49Speaker 3: Never had a bad trip.
- 42:50Speaker 2: That's a good thing because you hear them bad trips
- 42:52Speaker 2: is what scares everybody off.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Yeah, they do too much.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Man, You got to ease into that ship, you know
- 42:57Speaker 1: what I mean, Just seeze into it a little bit,
- 42:59Speaker 1: figure out and get you get your footing and figure
- 43:01Speaker 1: out what works for you, and do a little bit more.
- 43:02Speaker 1: And do a little bit more if you want to
- 43:03Speaker 1: go there otherwise, you know, even my first time, like
- 43:07Speaker 1: I ate an eighth.
- 43:08Speaker 3: That's what the on we told you to do. Eat
- 43:09Speaker 3: an eighth and you fucking.
- 43:10Speaker 2: It's a pretty serious amount that sh It's.
- 43:12Speaker 1: The fucking walls of melting, you know. But I wouldn't
- 43:14Speaker 1: recommend anybody to start eighth. Nah, I wouldn't do that.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I watched a couple of years ago when the mister
- 43:20Speaker 2: cartoon Estevan documentary came out. I think it was called
- 43:23Speaker 2: Ellie Originals. Right, it's on Netflix. Everybody should go watch
- 43:25Speaker 2: it because I think it's really dope, like for people
- 43:27Speaker 2: to kind of see like like just both of their
- 43:30Speaker 2: come ups and like how integral and like hip hop
- 43:34Speaker 2: both of them are. I just remember the mister Cartoon
- 43:36Speaker 2: era of rap. I just felt like everyone had the tattoos,
- 43:39Speaker 2: Like but for you kind of coming up with those
- 43:42Speaker 2: guys and like you're very much a part of their story.
- 43:46Speaker 2: How dope was it to see like them get their
- 43:48Speaker 2: flowers with that documentary?
- 43:49Speaker 3: Check it out? Man?
- 43:50Speaker 1: Like for me, man, seeing my team win is the
- 43:54Speaker 1: dopest shit for me to see where they come because
- 43:56Speaker 1: all my motherfuckers is killers.
- 43:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Look to see how you know, from being fourteen years
- 44:01Speaker 1: old to what he's doing is like amazing for me
- 44:03Speaker 1: to see cartoon to step on.
- 44:05Speaker 3: Like Steve On was working at the.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Door of a club, but I knew him and he
- 44:10Speaker 1: didn't get high. He was always on point, and I
- 44:11Speaker 1: was like, hey man, I was like, yo, I got
- 44:13Speaker 1: to I need a road manager for this new group.
- 44:15Speaker 1: He goes, what is a role manager? I go, it's easy,
- 44:17Speaker 1: I'll teach you. I got this new group called House
- 44:19Speaker 1: of Pain. You want to be the road manager? He
- 44:21Speaker 1: was like, fuck it. So he started being the road manager.
- 44:23Speaker 3: You know.
- 44:24Speaker 1: When he was on the road, his dad was like
- 44:27Speaker 1: a son, here's a camera document your time on the road.
- 44:31Speaker 1: And then we'd have photographers taking pictures that would charge
- 44:34Speaker 1: just thirty fucking thousand dollars for some trash.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Cheese, and I was like thirty thousand.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Yeah, the budgets were crazy, and I was like a man,
- 44:41Speaker 1: fuck these dudes. You know what, you take the pictures, homie,
- 44:44Speaker 1: let the homie get the check. And that's how he
- 44:45Speaker 1: started shooting us.
- 44:47Speaker 3: Wow.
- 44:47Speaker 1: And that's what the whole soul assess and shit was
- 44:49Speaker 1: is to build our own economy and just hire each other.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Anytime we hired these other motherfuckers and put them in
- 44:55Speaker 1: a position to win, they would never come back and
- 44:56Speaker 1: return the favor, you know what I mean.
- 44:58Speaker 2: And those were the error that was like the air
- 45:00Speaker 2: were where like labels were just like getting like they were.
- 45:04Speaker 2: They were like, like you said, a thirty thousand dollars
- 45:06Speaker 2: budget for a photographers insane, right, So you would be
- 45:09Speaker 2: like you would always hear these stories about like labels,
- 45:12Speaker 2: like you'd get your invoice or your oh.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Yeah, there's your money. They're spending your money.
- 45:16Speaker 2: So they don't spending your money that you have to
- 45:17Speaker 2: recoup and they you know.
- 45:19Speaker 1: So they know they're going to recoup it because you're
- 45:20Speaker 1: selling four million records.
- 45:21Speaker 2: So crazy. So, like you said, you like a lot
- 45:24Speaker 2: of the shit you would see on some of these
- 45:25Speaker 2: like spreadsheets, you'd be like, wait, we paid this much
- 45:27Speaker 2: for this.
- 45:28Speaker 3: Like a lot of artists don't even look.
- 45:30Speaker 2: I got a homie that could do it, you know
- 45:31Speaker 2: what I'm saying.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Yeah, And a lot of artists they let the managers
- 45:34Speaker 1: and everything and there everybody else is just as long
- 45:36Speaker 1: as they get they cut and they're just skimming. They're
- 45:37Speaker 1: getting paid off top anyways. A lot of times they
- 45:39Speaker 1: don't give a fuck. But yeah, it was a lot
- 45:42Speaker 1: of that ship man. So and then you know, so
- 45:45Speaker 1: that started happening with a step On and then Cartoon
- 45:47Speaker 1: came along up a little bit later, and then you know,
- 45:50Speaker 1: we first started letting Cartoon do shit for us around
- 45:54Speaker 1: our fifth album, like Rock Superstar album. That was the
- 45:56Speaker 1: first time he touched our shit. Oh shit, okay, yeah,
- 45:58Speaker 1: but he was right there with us the whole time. Then,
- 46:00Speaker 1: you know, when I was on when I go on
- 46:01Speaker 1: tour because I met Paul and then we're doing we're
- 46:04Speaker 1: opening up for him doing the Anger Management Tour. Fifty
- 46:06Speaker 1: I just came out within the club. So it's fifty
- 46:09Speaker 1: exhibit eminem Cypress hill I was.
- 46:12Speaker 2: I went to I went to that tour, yeah, as
- 46:14Speaker 2: I was a child, and I went back. I got
- 46:16Speaker 2: backstage and I saw I met Sophia. Sophia I think
- 46:23Speaker 2: was on the road with Exhibit at the time.
- 46:26Speaker 3: I think so, yeah, yeah, I think there was funning
- 46:27Speaker 3: around back in the day.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Yeah. And I was like because at the time, my
- 46:31Speaker 2: best friend's brothers Rocker, right, so like we had the
- 46:35Speaker 2: Liquid crew he you know, Roco with he linked us
- 46:38Speaker 2: with Exhibit, so we would always be like, oh, it's
- 46:41Speaker 2: Rock's little brother.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Ki.
- 46:43Speaker 2: I remember we snuck our ass backstage at the Phoenix
- 46:46Speaker 2: tour date of that of that Anger Management tour. That
- 46:48Speaker 2: was a crazy So.
- 46:49Speaker 1: We bring cartoon because you know, you're sitting backstage for
- 46:51Speaker 1: fucking five sex.
- 46:52Speaker 2: If you want to get blasted, yeah, just set.
- 46:54Speaker 3: Him up backstage. And he got everybody in that whole tour.
- 46:57Speaker 2: I think he did what he was supposed to do,
- 46:59Speaker 2: took opportunity and did what he was supposed to do.
- 47:02Speaker 2: A lot of motherfuckers get those opportunities.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Oh, I gotta like for the motherfuckers who won. I
- 47:08Speaker 1: got a list of fools who just sat around smoking
- 47:10Speaker 1: weed and drinking and then complaining and complaining, complaining, complaining
- 47:13Speaker 1: that they didn't.
- 47:14Speaker 2: I was like, bro, put you in this in a situation.
- 47:16Speaker 2: I'm not going to force you.
- 47:17Speaker 3: I put you in the game. Come on, run the
- 47:19Speaker 3: ball for that.
- 47:22Speaker 2: What do you do outside of music these days? For fun?
- 47:24Speaker 2: For recreation?
- 47:25Speaker 3: Like what is your workout? Workout?
- 47:28Speaker 1: Man, movie, tie, hit the bags, go hiking, fucking business yeah,
- 47:37Speaker 1: like five six different businesses, you know, and just fucking
- 47:41Speaker 1: holidays with the family, you know what I mean, go shooting.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Just a bunch of different ship with the homies.
- 47:47Speaker 2: I just got I want to say, last year, I
- 47:50Speaker 2: got I got a bunch of cyper shit center me
- 47:56Speaker 2: in the mail because didn't you.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Get you guys put out It was the thirtieth Yeah,
- 48:01Speaker 1: the anniversary first album.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I got like I think, I got a rolling tray,
- 48:05Speaker 2: I got like a can't, I got disposable camera. I
- 48:07Speaker 2: got a bunch of cool ship. You guys obviously have
- 48:10Speaker 2: been more active recently as a group than than in
- 48:14Speaker 2: past times. What is the current situation, uh, in terms
- 48:19Speaker 2: of like any new music coming out or is that
- 48:21Speaker 2: something that you guys.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Me and b were recorded.
- 48:24Speaker 1: I think about four songs last year, but just nothing no, No,
- 48:29Speaker 1: talks about nothing really right now, you know, I mean
- 48:31Speaker 1: just a lot of road ship we're putting together. We're
- 48:34Speaker 1: putting together something called the Cypress Experience where you'll come
- 48:39Speaker 1: in there'll be all like future tech three D and
- 48:43Speaker 1: and you know the those big as domes.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they got one downtown in l a wonder.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I went to I think that Punk went downtown. Yeah,
- 48:51Speaker 1: that Punk had a sick one.
- 48:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:53Speaker 1: So we're putting something like an immersive of Cypress experience
- 48:55Speaker 1: that'll be fire. I want to take what they're doing
- 48:58Speaker 1: a step further and you know, have it, have have
- 49:02Speaker 1: a three D and then have it take you to
- 49:05Speaker 1: little little metaverse.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Is it crazy like to see your guys, Because I
- 49:10Speaker 2: was thinking about this the other day because I'm like,
- 49:12Speaker 2: you guys have so many like crazy stories and like
- 49:15Speaker 2: wrinkles to your guys's careers as a group and also
- 49:18Speaker 2: just solo wise, would you guys ever do like a
- 49:22Speaker 2: Netflix or straight out of Compton type of movie but
- 49:25Speaker 2: surrounding Cypress. So the thing maybe a series or something.
- 49:29Speaker 1: What we're talking about is a sol as sessions because
- 49:32Speaker 1: then I could tell in that I could tell a
- 49:34Speaker 1: full Cypress story and I could tell a full mug
- 49:36Speaker 1: story and to be real and an alchemist and a
- 49:38Speaker 1: cartoon step on and you know everything else. So I
- 49:41Speaker 1: think that would be something. I think that can even
- 49:43Speaker 1: go further.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that'd be crazy.
- 49:45Speaker 1: But yeah, we're in the process right now working with
- 49:48Speaker 1: Sony on an animated series.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Oh shit, that'd be crazy. That's dope, man, it's been
- 49:54Speaker 2: dope to just see you. You just turning up be
- 49:57Speaker 2: reals turning up doing dope content too, Like it's just
- 50:00Speaker 2: been dope to see man. So the new album is out,
- 50:03Speaker 2: Soul Assassin's Three Death Valley. The movie is the movie
- 50:07Speaker 2: on YouTube?
- 50:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:07Speaker 1: No, the movie drops on the thirteenth, Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 50:11Speaker 1: September thirteenth. I'm probably on Amazon where we're doing screenings
- 50:16Speaker 1: all month, New York, San Francisco, Chicago. I just did
- 50:19Speaker 1: I just did them Tokyo. They're going to screen it
- 50:21Speaker 1: in Europe. So just screening the whole the movie all month.
- 50:24Speaker 2: You guys got a big fan base in Japan, right, crazy,
- 50:27Speaker 2: it's crazy crazy, It's something crazy, Like I just watched
- 50:31Speaker 2: this YouTube video, Like there's something about like parts of
- 50:35Speaker 2: Japan where they're just like extremely infatuated with La culture, oh.
- 50:38Speaker 1: One thousand percent. When when they you wouldn't look like
- 50:41Speaker 1: they look like the homies, low riders and everything, you
- 50:43Speaker 1: wouldn't even know. They think it's the homie from East La. Right,
- 50:46Speaker 1: So you talk to them, you know what I mean?
- 50:48Speaker 1: But yeah, and when they do something, bro, they refine it,
- 50:52Speaker 1: They refine it, They refine it to its simplest form,
- 50:54Speaker 1: and they master the shit out of it and ended
- 50:56Speaker 1: up doing it better than you.
- 50:57Speaker 2: That's great.
- 50:57Speaker 1: It's their appreciation for everything they do. Man, they just
- 51:00Speaker 1: sit back and watch and rEFInd the fun out of it,
- 51:02Speaker 1: even the fashion, even their cat and even there there
- 51:06Speaker 1: everything the fuck they do.
- 51:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:08Speaker 2: So September thirteenth movie, Well, hey, what what's verse on
- 51:12Speaker 2: this album that you have to wait?
- 51:13Speaker 3: The longest war slick Rick slick Rick about a year.
- 51:16Speaker 2: I had a guess slick record Scarface would be my guess.

- 51:30Speaker 1: going for on this? And I told him it was like, okay,
- 51:33Speaker 1: I got you and the Boom send him like two
- 51:35Speaker 1: days later.
- 51:36Speaker 2: That's fire Man. Anything coming out or anything that's in
- 51:40Speaker 2: the can. In terms of clap albums, I'm sure you
- 51:43Speaker 2: got a few that that already finished.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Or Yeah, we got like about sixteen projects in the
- 51:47Speaker 1: works right now, but we're going to drop first of
- 51:49Speaker 1: the year.
- 51:49Speaker 3: It was gonna be Mayhem Record and the TF Record.
- 51:53Speaker 3: Those are going to probably be the first projects coming
