- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in scripture and relevant for today, February 5th.
- 0:11Living with a lasting name Everyone wants to be remembered
- 0:14for something. Whether we admit it or not, we
- 0:17all care about the name we're building.
- 0:20We want to matter. We want our lives to mean
- 0:22something. In a world obsessed with likes,
- 0:25followers, and recognition, it's easy to believe that being known
- 0:29is the same as being significant.
- 0:32But Scripture gently and firmly reminds us that not every name
- 0:36lasts the same way. Proverbs chapter 10, verses six
- 0:40to seven, says blessings are on the head of the righteous, but
- 0:44the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
- 0:47The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the
- 0:50wicked will rot. That's a sobering contrast.
- 0:53One life leaves behind blessing. The other fades, spoils, and
- 0:57loses its value. This tells us that legacy isn't
- 1:01about being talked about, It's about being remembered for the
- 1:04right reasons. It's about the kind of impact
- 1:07your life has on others long after the moment has passed.
- 1:11Then we step into Acts chapter 5, where the apostles are
- 1:14standing in the middle of real pressure.
- 1:17They are commanded by powerful leaders to stop speaking about
- 1:20Jesus, to be quiet, to protect themselves, to play it safe.
- 1:25And Peter, speaking for the apostles, says something that
- 1:28defines their legacy. In Acts chapter 5, verse 29, he
- 1:33says we must obey God rather than men.
- 1:36That sentence cost them comfort. It cost them approval.
- 1:39It even put their safety at risk.
- 1:42But it also sealed the kind of name they would leave behind.
- 1:45Their courage wasn't loud for attention.
- 1:48It was steady, rooted obedience. They chose faithfulness over
- 1:51popularity. They chose truth over
- 1:54acceptance. And because of that, their lives
- 1:57continue to bless millions of people centuries later.
- 2:00Their names didn't rot. Their memory became a blessing.
- 2:05This challenges us in everyday ways.
- 2:07When you choose honesty instead of fitting in.
- 2:10When you stand for what's right, even if it costs you
- 2:12friendships. When you obey God quietly, when
- 2:15no one is cheering. Those moments feel small.
- 2:18But they are shaping your name. They are writing your story.
- 2:21You don't have to be famous to leave a lasting legacy.
- 2:24You just have to be faithful. Obedience to God has a way of
- 2:28outliving applause. Integrity creates impact that
- 2:32doesn't fade. And when your life points people
- 2:34toward God, the blessing continues long after you're
- 2:37gone. So the question is just will I
- 2:40be remembered? The real question is, what will
- 2:43my life leave behind? A name that fades or a memory
- 2:46that blesses? Let's pray.
- 2:49Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me that how I Live
- 2:52Today shapes the legacy I leave behind.
- 2:55Help me to care more about obeying you than gaining
- 2:57approval from people. Give me courage to stand for
- 3:01what is right, even when it's uncomfortable or unpopular.
- 3:05Teach me to live with integrity, to walk in righteousness, and to
- 3:08leave behind a life that becomes a blessing to others.
- 3:12In Jesus name, Amen. What if the way you pray changed
- 3:16because you truly knew who God is?

- 4:35Proverbs chapter 10 verses six to seven World English Bible
- 4:40Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers
- 4:43the mouth of the wicked. The memory of the righteous is
- 4:46blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.
- 4:49Acts chapter 5 World English Bible But a certain man named
- 4:53Ananias with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession and kept back
- 4:57part of the price. His wife also being aware of it,
- 5:00then brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles feet.
- 5:03But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie
- 5:07to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the
- 5:10land? While you kept it, didn't it
- 5:12remain your own after it was sold?
- 5:14Wasn't it in your power? How is it that you have
- 5:16conceived this thing in your heart?
- 5:18You haven't lied to men, but to God.
- 5:20Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died.
- 5:24Great fear came on all who heard these things.
- 5:26The young men arose and wrapped him up, and they carried him out
- 5:29and buried him. About 3 hours later, his wife,
- 5:32not knowing what had happened, came in.
- 5:35Peter answered her. Tell me whether you sold the
- 5:37land for so much. She said, Yes, for so much, but
- 5:41Peter asked her, How is it that you have agreed together to
- 5:44tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who
- 5:47have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry
- 5:50you out. She fell down immediately at his
- 5:52feet and died. The young men came in and found
- 5:55her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her
- 5:58husband. Great fear came on the whole
- 6:00assembly, and on all who heard these things by the hands of the
- 6:04apostles. Many signs and wonders were done
- 6:06among the people. They were all with 1 accord in
- 6:09Solomon's porch. None of the rest dared to join
- 6:11them. However, the people honored
- 6:13them. More believers were added to the
- 6:16Lord, multitudes of both men and women.
- 6:18They even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them
- 6:21on cots and mattresses, so that as Peter came by, at least his
- 6:25shadow might over shadow some of them.
- 6:28The multitude also came together from the cities around
- 6:31Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by
- 6:34unclean spirits, And they were all healed.
- 6:37But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him,
- 6:41which is the sect of the Sadducees, and they were filled
- 6:43with jealousy and laid hands on the apostles, then put them in
- 6:47public custody. But an Angel of the Lord opened
- 6:50the prison doors by night and brought them out, and said, Go,
- 6:53stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this
- 6:56life. When they heard this, they
- 6:58entered into the temple about Daybreak and taught.
- 7:01But the high priest and those who were with him came and
- 7:04called the council, together with all the Senate of the
- 7:06Children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
- 7:10But the officers who came didn't find them in the prison.
- 7:14They returned and reported. We found the prison shut and
- 7:16locked, and the guards standing before the doors.
- 7:19But when we opened them we found no one inside.
- 7:22Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the
- 7:25chief priests heard these words, they were very perplexed about
- 7:28them, and what might become of this one came and told them,
- 7:31Behold, the men who you put in prison are in the temple,
- 7:34standing and teaching the people.
- 7:37Then the captain went with the officers and brought them
- 7:39without violence, for they were afraid that the people might
- 7:42stone them. When they had brought them, they
- 7:45set them before the council. The high priest questioned them,
- 7:48saying, Didn't we strictly command you not to teach in this
- 7:51name? Behold, you have filled
- 7:53Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man's blood
- 7:56on us. But Peter and the apostles
- 7:58answered, we must obey God rather than men.
- 8:01The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging
- 8:05him on a tree. God exalted him with His right
- 8:08hand to be a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance to
- 8:11Israel and remission of sins. We are His witnesses of these
- 8:15things, and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to
- 8:19those who obey Him. But they, when they heard this,
- 8:22were cut to the heart, and were determined to kill them.
- 8:25But one stood up in the council, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a
- 8:28teacher of the law, honored by all the people, and commanded to
- 8:32put the apostles out for a little while.
- 8:35He said to them, You men of Israel, be careful concerning
- 8:38these men, what you are about to do.
- 8:40For before these days Theudas rose up, making himself out to
- 8:43be somebody, to whom a number of men, about 400, joined
- 8:47themselves. He was slain, and all as many as
- 8:50obeyed him were dispersed and came to nothing.
- 8:53After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the
- 8:56enrollment, and drew away some people after him.
- 8:59He also perished, and all as many as obeyed Him were
- 9:02scattered abroad. Now I tell you, withdraw from
- 9:05these men and leave them alone. For if this council or this work
- 9:08is of men, it will be overthrown.
- 9:11But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow it, and
- 9:14you would be found even to be fighting against God.
- 9:17They agreed with him, summoning the apostles.
- 9:20They beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of
- 9:23Jesus and let them go. They therefore departed from the
- 9:26presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted
- 9:29worthy to suffer dishonor for Jesus name.
- 9:32Every day in the temple and at home, they never stopped
- 9:35teaching and preaching Jesus the Christ.
