- 2:23- Welcome to the divine five one five podcast.
- 2:27- Here is this week's devotional.
- 2:31- Hello and welcome
- 2:33- to divine five one five,
- 2:36- or as I'd like to say, divine prayer.
- 2:39- I'm your host, Valerie Rocha, and I'd like
- 2:41- to welcome you.
- 2:43- Today, we are continuing
- 2:45- our
- 2:46- August series of Finding Strength Through Prayer and
- 2:49- Community,
- 2:50- and we're gonna
- 2:51- start today's episode by addressing how prayer breaks
- 2:55- the cycle
- 2:56- of worrying and overthinking.
- 2:59- A scripture text that I'm gonna be coming
- 3:01- from today is Philippians four six through seven.
- 3:04- And it says, do not be anxious about
- 3:07- anything.
- 3:08- And the peace of God will guard your
- 3:11- hearts and your minds in Christ. Jesus.
- 3:17- Now there's a saying
- 3:20- we probably don't hear it too much anymore,
- 3:23- but the saying goes something like this.
- 3:26- The mind is a terrible thing to waste.
- 3:31- I mean, have you ever noticed how quickly
- 3:35- one
- 3:35- worried thought becomes 10?
- 3:39- I mean, we replay conversations.
- 3:41- We imagine the worst case scenarios.
- 3:44- We rehearse tomorrow's problems before they even arrive
- 3:47- and magnify them where they're absolutely overwhelming.
- 3:52- And yet
- 3:54- we tell ourselves that overthinking
- 3:57- feels productive
- 3:59- when an actuality,
- 4:01- it rarely
- 4:02- produces anything
- 4:04- positive
- 4:07- or gives us peace.
- 4:10- If you will. It's kind of like being
- 4:12- a dribble on a wheel. You're going in
- 4:14- a circle, but you're not really going anywhere.
- 4:18- And yet just like
- 4:21- every other situation, every other problem,
- 4:24- God always
- 4:26- provides a solution.
- 4:29- And,
- 4:30- yes, the solution requires some work on our
- 4:33- part,
- 4:34- which usually involves faith.
- 4:39- Prayer
- 4:41- is the solution that interrupts the cycle.
- 4:46- If we took a moment
- 4:49- instead of worrying
- 4:52- to
- 4:53- dictate our thinking,
- 4:55- capture those thoughts, like the scripture tells us,
- 5:00- we would be able to allow prayer
- 5:03- to be invited in
- 5:07- and welcome God's presence
- 5:09- into
- 5:10- the situation
- 5:12- and
- 5:13- allow God to change our perspective.
- 5:18- Prayer is so
- 5:20- powerful
- 5:22- because it shifts our focus from what we
- 5:25- cannot control, which is a lot of everything
- 5:27- in, in, in a lot of situations because
- 5:30- it requires faith,
- 5:32- but
- 5:34- it shifts
- 5:35- our, our focus to the one who controls
- 5:38- all things.
- 5:40- I often say you don't get to choose
- 5:43- what comes to you, but you can choose
- 5:46- how you deal with it.
- 5:49- And
- 5:49- because of it, every anxious thought
- 5:53- becomes another invitation to pray.
- 5:57- Now, remember we talked about in the early
- 5:59- series
- 6:00- that prayer doesn't always
- 6:02- come out being our first response.
- 6:05- It should never be a,
- 6:07- issue of crises. Right.
- 6:10- And yet
- 6:12- because
- 6:13- life can come and overwhelm us and give
- 6:15- us distractions,
- 6:17- it can be absolutely
- 6:19- numbing and overwhelming at times.
- 6:23- But the good thing to remember
- 6:25- is that the more consistently
- 6:28- we replace worry with prayer,
- 6:30- the more naturally peace begins to guard our
- 6:33- hearts.
- 6:34- And again,
- 6:36- it comes from
- 6:38- being intentional and spending time with God,
- 6:42- putting down whatever that thing is on the
- 6:45- throne
- 6:46- and not
- 6:48- picking it back up regardless of how tempting
- 6:50- it is. Because remember,
- 6:53- if you could have solved the problem,
- 6:56- you wouldn't need to worry.
- 6:58- So give it to God
- 7:00- and let
- 7:02- him
- 7:04- work it out.
- 7:05- That being said,
- 7:07- let's pray.
- 7:10- Heavenly father,
- 7:11- when our thoughts begin to spiral,
- 7:15- remind us to return to you instead of
- 7:18- trying to solve everything on our own
- 7:23- father, help us to allow you into the
- 7:26- situation.
- 7:28- And remembering
- 7:29- that we can be the answer to our
- 7:32- prayer
- 7:33- either through faith
- 7:36- or just
- 7:37- waiting patiently
- 7:40- to hear what you have to say about
- 7:42- the situation.
- 7:44- Replace every worry with wisdom and anxiety, with
- 7:48- peace.
- 7:49- Help us to trust that you are already
- 7:52- working in the situations
- 7:56- and we cannot
- 7:57- yet understand it.
- 7:59- And that's why it's called faith
- 8:02- in Jesus name. Amen.
- 8:05- Before we go today,
- 8:07- remember this,
- 8:10- You were never created
- 8:11- to walk through
- 8:13- life alone.
- 8:16- God strengthens us through his presence,
- 8:19- his word, and the encouragement of his people.
- 8:23- If today's devotional encouraged you,
- 8:26- follow the divine five one five podcast
- 8:29- so we can continue growing together each week.
- 8:34- And until next time,
- 8:37- keep meeting God at the throne.
- 8:40- Remember,
- 8:41- prayer isn't something we do.
- 8:44- It's how we walk with God every day.
