- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: There's a drag right on the panel.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: Evan Kroner is amazing.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_03]: He is happy.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_03]: He hits this one hard.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_03]: He hits a mile left.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_03]: My truck has ripped him on run.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, guys?
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: My truck.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: And he lists some of the sports car C.E.E.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's current.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Buff on hand.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: It turns in the house, hands in the house, what's up, buddy?
- 0:51[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's up, my brother.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_02]: How are we doing?
- 0:53[SPEAKER_02]: Good to see you, man.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_02]: How are they weak this week?
- 0:55[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to have a little abbreviated episode, Bubba's Family's Traveling.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: You're getting ready to travel tomorrow.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm traveling midweek.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: So we still wanted to jump on those.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: They consistent for our community and stay consistent with our content.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: And so here we are, baby.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yep, just one of those weeks.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_04]: We are recording now on Monday Memorial Day and yeah, we're all kind of traveling for the summer a little bit, but we're always going to make this happen every Wednesday.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, summer's always difficult, you know, challenging for those of us with families and kids and just holidays and stuff.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so we try to be consistent, you know, it's funny.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: We never want this show to be a burden.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: We always talk about that, right?
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like anything that you do that becomes obligatory and a burden, like it's not fun anymore.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to do it.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: And so,
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: There's this tension between you know being committed to something right and continuing to bring valuable content while at the same time not making it feel like a burden and so for us like we're just being real with our listeners like you know we've said this a number of times we just started this as a fun thing and we wanted to stay that way and if it ever gets to a point where you know what we need to hit balls we can we have the freedom to do that but our commitment is to continue to bring out great content weekly so.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_02]: appreciate you guys tune in in.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: So, Currency, let's let you lead off today on a week in the life of one Eric Mandel Kern and then I'll follow in second.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you know, nothing crazy, man.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_04]: Like I'm looking forward to this coming week.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_04]: Like last week was just a lot of, of app stuff and a lot of following the 26 Bowman guys, but like I've really just been like needy been in trying to get this app up and running and like fixing all the quirks and stuff.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_04]: But,
- 2:24[SPEAKER_04]: This coming week I am taking my beautiful wife to Turks and Cacos so we'll be gone Tuesday through Friday so I'm really looking forward to that some nice weather.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_04]: It's been a while since it's just been the two of us but other than that and I'm good, the Met's absolutely suck like we talked about last time I was thinking maybe they would get a little jump start from winning that Yankee series but no they get swept by the marlins and they I don't know you know and they probably had like
- 2:50[SPEAKER_04]: seven hits and three games or something like that is just it's a trotius and it's just but we do have the new york nicks go new york go new york go we're going for a sweep tonight yeah that's right man three and that's that's got to be a lot of fun not a buzz if they're playing oh yeah yeah we you be able to go to a final game if they it's a get there
- 3:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'd like to go to a finals game.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_04]: I also if they play okay see I'd like to go at the okay see Cuz you know who lives out there Jeremy J. J. Wax lives out there.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_04]: So I'll go see him.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple okay see guys that follow this show We got to come here.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah Jeff is a you know guess a brand so he probably can New York you'd probably come to New York
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, shout out, shout out J-Wax and Dean Corners, some of our boys there.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's fun, man.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I watched, you know, honestly, I haven't watched a NBA basketball game and the last game I watched.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think I've said this in the podcast before.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: The last game I watched was when LeBron blocked, whoever it was, Aguadala, I think, for the Warriors in the Finals.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_02]: Remember, he came over the top and pinned it against the backboard.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: That's the last NBA game I've officially fully watched.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a big NBA game.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: that's like 15 years ago or so.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's a long time ago.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, look, I'm a baseball guy, but like the mix, I've always loved the mix, you know, like you've been going to games since the U.N. Oakley, you know, Alan Houston days, even before that.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll fairness, like you grew up in the city, right?
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's right there at the garden, like you're right across the street where you work, like you know what I mean?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: There's probably some of you.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: for us we're always like the hornets now I will say this back when I was a kid Jordan of course is from women to North Carolina my hometown so there was a per my dad watching play in high school like so there's always this lord of Jordan and you know people talk that's why I love Michael Jordan is because my dad literally watched him play my uncle went to high school with him our went to elementary school with him you know I had a co-worker who coached him on his junior baseball team so that that's incredible
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: So that made me go, okay, Jordan's play him.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so in the 90s, and I love Jordan for that reason.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: And then after he retired, you know, didn't really follow it all that much.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: Follow Kobe a little bit.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: And then certainly love to follow Steph, because he's an North Carolina guy.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, we've always had the hornets.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: And like the Hornets were here, then they left New Orleans and then they're back and they're actually, you know, it's a little bit energizing now.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm hopeful that I might be able to re revamp my love of basketball.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I was watching a picture of the piece of the game last night and did Wendy is he's just something else to do.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_04]: He's an alien.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: He literally is.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, an alien.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's amazing.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: Talk about this tie this back to cars or whatever.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: When you have your own emoji on the iPhone that gets, you know, the name.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_04]: Or do you know that you put that?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_04]: You know it's windy.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, somebody puts an alien emoji.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, oh, that's windy.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're, you're, you're entered the stratosphere of like, you know, hype.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_04]: And so like, because it's like with LeBron, you put it.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_04]: a king crown, and you know, it's LeBron.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so you talked about your basketball.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: You've never done a new, a new space in the chat.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: Well, cool, man.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, as you talked about you and your wife hadn't down the Turks, I had a little, uh, Grover Washington play and in my mind, just to with us.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_04]: We can make it if we try just to with us.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: You and we will not be singing karaoke any this week, friend.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll save you from that, but I hope you and your wife have a great time buddy.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks, man.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_04]: I'll stop with you.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: Do just, you know, a lot of the same.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: We have been a little Matt's been getting back into the saddle.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like we talked about doing some deep dives, doing some research, buying some cards.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: He actually started a really neat little thing on our social channel called Matt to a million.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: We're a local friend, entrepreneur, said, dude, you should start a series on Instagram called Matt to a million.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: And just document your sophomore in high school.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: Can you get to a million dollars by the time you're a senior?
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: You got three years, you know?
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: Just document what you're doing and just call it Matt to a million.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: And so he's kind of like starting to track all about.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm kind of letting him do it.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, honestly up to this point, it's been hand-eye pretty close, you know, back to just the two of us.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, now it's like art, man.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: kind of kicking them out of the nest a little bit and saying, hey, do go fly, you know what you really want to do go fly.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm I'm fine.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to oversee your reals.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't capitalize this word, I'm not going to pick and pick on you about it.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: If you miss failure hashtag, I'm not going to say anything to you about it.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like because I'm big on excellence, like if we're going to do something, I want it to be excellent and right.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and he's 15.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_02]: He's figuring that out.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, he'll shoot a reel and he'll say, hey, what do you think about this?
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: And instead of like critiquing it or adding, I'm just going to say, hey, bro, go with it, man.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: And so I'm happy for him doing that.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_02]: And honestly, he did his first episode.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I think he got like 5,000 views or something.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: And we added like a 100 new followers on the Instagram page.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's great.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: And so he came to me like that, you know, if we could add, you know, maybe another 500 or so followers before fanatics fest and then capitalize on being at fanatics fest and doing some interviews or whatever that could be fun.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: So he started to have a little bit of vision with it and that's been a been a good thing, but we actually man this week was an interesting we sold our final Xavier Isaac card Xavier Isaac's North Carolina guy.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, first round you've always been a big Isaac guy.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we followed him from the very beginning and we had a true gold PSA 10 that we were like net free into and I was using a little app that you guys may have heard of, you know, and I was I can't remember the name of it there was the name of that app current the prospect club that said the prospect club I was using this little app on Saturday morning, you know, I mean, I've got a buddy that just he actually made me pay the five dollars to download it so I downloaded it and I was using it to do some research on Xavier Eisen and I was like helpful.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know, yeah, it was, it was good.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, Isaac's, his average is down.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: His is slugging his good.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's hitting some bombs.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: And he's in double A.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: He's 21, 22.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm sitting there thinking of myself, what's this guy?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: What's the prospect for this guy really looking like?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so I had the gold on eBay at like $1,600 and I had 17 watchers and I lowered it to $900 and it snapped sold.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: and so got it ready to ship out today.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's our last Isaac.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: And that's always tough, man.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: You've you've had a guy from the very beginning.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, I remember when we let our last Jackson holiday go, I remember we let our last Walker Jenkins get when we let our last Isaac go, because you love the last Connor for that matter, our last McGonagall.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: We've had these guys.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: We've kind of rode the journey with and it's hard because sometimes you get like emotionally attached to them.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, if you're emotionally invested in this hobby, I think it eats you alive.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: And so this last season for me, going back to last week's episode, just about the, you know, the burn out and all that kind of stuff.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: I started to realize that like, you know, there's this fine line between emotionally invested and being passionate about it.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: And then it just being like a business, like just, you know, kind of wrote.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I've been kind of torn in with that line and really trying to figure that out.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: But that prospect fatigue, man, you know, you're waiting on a guy, you're waiting on a guy, you're waiting on a guy, and I'm just like, man, let's just move on.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, and I wanted to share this.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: I have a couple of different thoughts today, Kern, and we can kind of go wherever you want to go.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: But what was we said today, we have a abbreviated episode, but the finalized kind of my weekly little roundup.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm in much need.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I saw somebody share this to their dad, but share it to our audience just to encourage them.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people deal with mental health, you know, challenges and things, anxiety.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: We've talked about that on the show, depression, maybe some of those things.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I would not say that what I have been going through lately is depression.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's just been tired and heavy, but not like a depression.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: But listen to somebody talk about depression, and if you break down the word deep depression, it's actually the root of deep rest.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: Depressed is the root deep rest.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: And in a lot of times, the perspective is if you're feeling depressed, your body is actually crying out that it needs deep rest.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: And it was really helpful for me because it was like, man, okay,
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: I, my body's in need of rest like I've been running hard for two years to get the insurance agency up.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: We've been running hard with the hobby.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: We've been running hard with this.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: I've been running hard with my ministry stuff.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just in a need of a reprieve, man.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was a good reminder for me to kind of hit the pause button and just take this weekend and just be present.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: You know, be around.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, a little bit of a close
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, people are starting to chat our own socials, oh, we're in a bubble, we're in a bubble, we're in a bubble, we're in a bubble, and what does that actually mean, you know, and is it applicable for the sports card hobby?
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: And what can we do as CEOs, collectors, and advocates to help encourage people to be smart when you have a high demand, you know, market that could feel bubblish.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: So, current, I know that this is a topic that you're not too keen on discussing, but when you hear the word bubble, what's your reaction in general?
- 11:48[SPEAKER_04]: I think of a bubble bursting.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_04]: I think of like, everything is good right now.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_04]: Everything is hot.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_04]: Prices are through the roof.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_04]: The market is just on fire and you're in this bubble and you're waiting for that to blow up.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_04]: You're waiting for it to just crash, blow up and crash.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_04]: And I remember having this discussion, I want to say a year ago that we were in this bubble, and it's, it hasn't crashed.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it hasn't burst.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_04]: So what actually is a bubble then, verse, reality?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 12:18[SPEAKER_04]: When does it become a bubble?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_04]: If last year at this time wasn't a bubble when we thought it was, and when is a bubble?
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: When is the bubble?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so it will get in on our dictionaries, boys and girls.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: And again, our point in having this conversation for our listeners is to give thought to this and to assess it from their own perspective.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: And then on the back end, I think we're going to provide some ideas on, you know, how to avoid this.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: So I, I say this from my own perspective.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: So in 20.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm American 2005, and in 2006, we were living in South Florida, sunny South Florida, the land of many small homes, and we decided to buy our first house, and it was $279,000 to bedroom two bath home.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_02]: I financed that property, 100% financing.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: So no cash out of pocket out the door, 100% finance just started paying on the note and of course, life is good baby, you're making money, you can pay your mortgage, things are great.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_02]: Well, then I got relocated to got a full-time sales job commission only started to like lose income, still own the house in Florida, market values tanked.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: The 279 we paid was now 259.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't bring cash to closing.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: Ended up holding that property for 12 years.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: I heard it through the O8 bubble.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: And that house ended up falling as low as $120,000.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: $1,280.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: So again, $100,000 loss or $160,000 loss, you know, understandable on a million R asset, but it's literally, it's value.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: And so I ended up selling that house for $200,000 probably in 2018 after 12 years of holding it.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: And I was able to take a carry-forward loss, thank goodness, all my taxes because of that.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's where I'm coming from with this, right?
- 14:07[SPEAKER_02]: So I was in the housing bubble.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: I sold real estate during the housing bubble.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: So using that as a marker, the definition of a bubble is an economic cycle where the price of an asset rapidly surdues far beyond its intrinsic or fundamental value.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: driven by speculation and hype rather than underlying characteristics like earnings and our case scarcity, rarity, performance, those types of things.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: And it eventually pops leading to a sudden sharp drop in value known as a crash.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: So that's our definition for those who are who are carrying and paying attention.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, my two cents on this is, okay, if you look at that, would you say that the the the card market has seen a rapid incline that is primarily based on speculation and yeah, yeah, and so you have a ton of new capital flowing in and you've got people getting into the breaking, you know,
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Really, I mean, and now we have three, you know, and there's some up and up in the other areas, right?
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: You've got, you know, Brady's opening up all of his shops, you've got all these different folks.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, so the point is, is if you look at it from the outside, you're going, okay, there's a ton of capital flooding into the market, right?
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, what happens when capital floods into a market is people lose their fundamental principles.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: of what they buy, why they buy, how they buy, and they're just trying to get their hands on assets.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_02]: So, current, using that, what are some fundamental principles that you use when you're buying cards that tend to insulate yourself from this bubble concept?
- 15:58[SPEAKER_02]: What are some tips that you would say or practices that you have that kind of help insulate you?
- 16:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, look, I don't think I'm by any way completely insulated here because, you know, a lot of what, you know, I would buy a speculation is based on speculation, right?
- 16:14[SPEAKER_04]: Like it's Bowman modern Bowman prospects who haven't yet proved themselves.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_04]: So like that is the definition of speculation and and a bubble, you know what I mean, like, but, but.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I I know that world and I feel confident enough in that what I want to pay for those for those prices aren't, you know, isn't driving the market up like long term, you know, like I'm not I'm I still wouldn't overpay substantial amount for a certain card, you know, like it all the market has to do is stay sustainable for that period of time and I'm good like if I'm all of a sudden if I was paying, you know, $5,000 for
- 16:50[SPEAKER_04]: a red right like if I'm gonna all of a sudden decide to I'm gonna pay 15,000 dollars just to get my hand on that you know that that's a problem Then I'm gonna get my ass handed to me, but like in general, I kind of just like you stain your lane right like if I'm starting to buy like it I'm starting to buy like like non rookie insert Superfractor sticker autos for an absurd amount of money like that that is when you start getting into trouble
- 17:15[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 17:16[SPEAKER_04]: Like that kind of stuff is when you start getting into trouble.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_04]: But like I still think you're safe.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_04]: Like there's certain part of your portfolio should still be safety.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_04]: You know, like it should it should be my trout.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_04]: It should be showhail tony.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_04]: It should be Aaron judge.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, should be babe Ruth.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_04]: It should be Mickey Mannell.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_04]: It should be Kobe Bryant.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_04]: It should be, you know, even Le Pan James.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_04]: But like,
- 17:38[SPEAKER_04]: little brown James like I'm not I wouldn't be going to buy like like that 24 tops chrome or 25 tops chrome this year's super whatever it was auto like it went for over a million dollars but like Brett actually posted this but then like the 2000
- 17:56[SPEAKER_04]: three super non autoflopron I mean I know it was like years ago was like more than less than half of that value like that is like I would have no interest in buying a 2425 super non you know non rookie super autoflopron like I think that's a recipe for disaster in this in this world you know what I mean like that's that's not yes so one of one but that's not scarce like that is not going to be in all time
- 18:25[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I think like buying stuff like that is like where you get yourself into trouble.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, 100% great, great thoughts there.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the movie rolling through my mind right now willy walk in the chocolate factory.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: The original woman, Jean Wilde, or not a Johnny Depp spin off.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: But you take the whole concept of their hiding the golden tickets and the walkabars.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there was a limited number of golden tickets.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_02]: And everybody's fighting until the golden tickets are found.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: So yes, you have a scarce asset that people are searching for, opening up an hour and never forget that image of the rich dad who has his workers, just opening up Wonka bars, looking for the one for his daughter.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think it isn't for Rucos salt in that in that her name.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think her name is Rucos salt.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_04]: That that Willy Wonka scares my children when they watch it.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_04]: So I have to watch three wilder.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_02]: You get nothing, sir.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: So, but here's the thing is we think things are golden tickets that aren't.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, to your point, you've got this top scrim, you know, 20, 26 LeBron super-fractor that is the golden ticket to the market.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: But in reality, like that's not the golden ticket.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 19:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it is scarce.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, it is rare.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: There's only one of them.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: and ultimately one could argue long term that that is a scarce and rare card, but to your point, there are earlier cards of his that were not in this, now not to mention, now you've got the inserts, now you've got the multiple brands, you've got all this different type of stuff, it becomes how many golden tickets can there be?
- 19:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, exactly.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_04]: Like if this bubble bursts, right?
- 19:56[SPEAKER_04]: And like there's only so much money to go round and the liquidity is, you know, like that is not the card.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 20:03[SPEAKER_04]: That is not the card that is going to sustain itself in the hobby in my opinion.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: Now that that card would sustain itself more than a, you know, random NFL quarterback who, you know, is 100% you know, but it's so again, there's a layer to this, but you know, I think that the big takeaway here is if we're talking about a bubble and everybody has anybody has any concern about a bubble, I think you said two things there that are that are key number one is don't ever pay.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_02]: if you feel like you're chasing something from an emotional perspective just to get the card then you're probably endangering yourself because you're overpaying for the asset right secondarily stay in your lane know what you like and and know what you know
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_02]: And stick to it, you know, it's it's funny, you know, this has been, this has been a little bit of a, from the mouth of Big Matt here.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: Little Matt and I have never really been into reds and supers.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: We just have it.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: And if we did quite candidly, we would sell them to you guys, you know, because that's what you did.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: And we, we would find them.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: We would, that's how this whole thing started is, is we understand that these are the assets that you guys are after.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_02]: So we would try to, you know, find them and then sell them to you guys and here recently, you know, we've kind of gotten into and we've done we did well there because we weren't trying to hold the cart.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and we see what you guys did on the Connor red and on some of the big supers that you guys sold and so we're like, okay.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_02]: maybe we'll dip our toe in here.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, we, we purchased the cane Keppley super alongside Bubba.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_02]: We purchased a peanut red with you with Bubba.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: We had this zire hope red.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: We got a Ryan Waldschmitt red.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: We got a Tyson Lewis red.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: We got a Mike Sarota red.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: So we're getting in the red game here.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: has not been a good experience for us.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be honest.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_02]: It hasn't.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: It has not been a good experience.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's fierce.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: Here we go.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: We play.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: We play craps.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: That's what this is.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_02]: The whole card hobby is little craps game.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like rolling the dice, right?
- 22:06[SPEAKER_02]: I am comfortable playing craps when the blind or the the bet is a $10 minimum.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: or a $20 minimum.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: Come to current scrapes table and there's a $500 minimum, which is tolerable for you and you you're playing the $500 scrapes table.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: I need to remember to play the table that I am comfortable with because it's all in scale because if you play at the $500 table all the time you're going to win you know and it's a bigger win but your losses are going to be bigger losses.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so, case in point, we sold a Ryan Walshmit red last night.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: It went for like a grand under, you know, what we bought it for, you know, we've got a serotor red that's underwater right now.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, this zire hope red that we pulled.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: I would say it's values probably down, you know, 30 from back in the day.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, this pin you're red, you know, he's doing great, but he's from good there.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_04]: We're good there, I promise.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: No, I know you are, but I'm saying, but like, No, we are, but I promise, I am just like, I think my point and as a let you get to yours is, that's a bit of the stain your lane, but from a different angle, not from the card lane, stain your lane from a money perspective.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: Comterability.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: So go ahead.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, I agree with you.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_04]: Like, it's from a comterability standpoint, right?
- 23:24[SPEAKER_04]: Like, even if you have the money, it's still if you're not comfortable playing at that minimum,
- 23:32[SPEAKER_04]: get out you know what I mean and I think that's where a lot of people do make their mistakes right like even from jumping from one sport to another right like I've I've sold a couple supers to people that want that to try to come in from basketball that I see primarily are in basketball right like in example because I don't want to like I don't want to like I don't want to throw people into the box right like but like just an example of a mistake that I saw like somebody wanted a big baseball card right and like what is this baseball
- 24:00[SPEAKER_04]: And I sold them while ago.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_04]: Franklin R is super auto, okay?
- 24:04[SPEAKER_04]: Like, personally, I was in for a very cheap.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I got the redemption at like $8,000 full transparency.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_04]: I redeemed it.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_04]: I dreamed it.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_04]: I sold that card for $25,000.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_04]: The card.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_04]: And I knew that Frank, like my mind, I got that car because I'm like, I'll hold it, but like, Franklin Orius is going to be a beast on the red socks, right?
- 24:23[SPEAKER_04]: And like, it was tough to sell at the time, but I'm like, let me take the money.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I own a lot of super fractures, like, let me take the money when I can get it.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_04]: You know, if I had bought that card for $20,000, no, I'm not selling it for $25.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_04]: But, let me take the win.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_04]: And then, months later, I see this, I see the car go on to auction and went on to oath, like, oh, like, pretty recently, before his run, and it went for $20,000, guy lost $5,000.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_04]: And then, Frank Lanari is went on fire through the roof.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_04]: And that card is probably, I would say it's probably a $40 to $50,000 card right now, if it sold sells privately.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you gotta be patient.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_04]: Like, but you don't, and it's not his fault.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_04]: You just don't know that.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_04]: You don't know the game he came from basketball.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't know the Bowman baseball world, right?
- 25:08[SPEAKER_04]: Like it's like if I went into the basketball world and I started buys it like I would I don't know that world.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_04]: I would consult would I would probably call Brent wire, right?
- 25:18[SPEAKER_04]: Like that's why I would that was who I would consult with and I'd say look I want to get into basketball Here's what I'm looking at do them looking a hole for an extended period of time until I can give to my kids.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_04]: What am I buying here?
- 25:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean like or I want to hold for two years and have the best chance to to make money like what am I buying here?
- 25:35[SPEAKER_04]: Consulting with somebody but just dip in your feet into something you don't understand fully is dangerous.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, and so so again back to this whole conversation about bubbleproofing your your thing You know what you just mentioned there is we're gonna put a definition on it is is have a plan like have a game plan
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: And a game plan means a couple of things.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: It means length of hold.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: It means how much money.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: It means what profit you're comfortable taking.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: And it means at some point cutting your losses.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know, now I will tell you on the stuff that we've sold here recently with some of these reds, we had such a giant month the month before.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: that now is the time to take the loss because I don't want to sit here and hold a Ryan Waldshmit red.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I don't want to sit here and hold.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't want to.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: Should I?
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: Probably yes, but I don't want to.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to hold a red.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: It kills me enough, no one were holding the red paint yet and I'm holding this red tire coat because I'm like, I would I like to stay stimulated with like moving parts and pieces and like apathy of sales and active capital, that's just my natural kind of tendency.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_02]: So I hate the idea of waiting on something.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, you know, again, I don't bet a lot on sports.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: I have in the past and occasionally just for fun.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: I will usually during March madness or the football season and the fall.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: I can hardly stomach to place a bet on who's going to go and win MVP.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: Who's going to make it to the World Series?
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I hate it.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: I hate it.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm naturally, I tend toward impatience and so I like, you know, that thing.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: And so again, if we're talking about bubbleproofing your hobby or your hobby experience, we've said, don't ever pay, stay in your lane, stay within your realm of constability from a price standpoint,
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm thinking about this too is going back that this is going to highlight the two things we've just talked about.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I live in a beach area, coastal North Carolina, when you cross over the intercostal waterway onto this area is called Ritesful Beach, okay?
- 27:38[SPEAKER_02]: And Ritesful Beach is very prominent beach.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: We've had a lot of industry come in, a lot of folks from the Raleigh Charlotte areas are buying second homes here, the real estate values of the beach have just gone nuts.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_02]: And it's crazy because, you know, now it's $2 million just to get on the beach and you're buying like an old, you know, tear down, but the real estate itself is in such a high demand and again, it's because you've got accessibility.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: with I-40 and an international airport right here, so people can get here quickly, right?
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: So folks who have their own private planes and they're looking for a beach to go to, and then you add in like, you know, moderate climate, you know, it's not South Florida, right?
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not, you know, up Jersey Shore, whatever.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: So you start to figure in some of these factors, you're like, okay, I'm buying not just a beach property.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: I'm buying a beach property with all of the check marks on it, you know, and so again, did it dip back in the day when the market kind of tanked a little bit?
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it did, but it kind of rebounded quicker during the next economic cycle.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_02]: So again, when you stay in your lane and you buy within comfortability and you have a plan, like if you're buying a beach house to turn it quick money, that's one thing.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're buying a beach house to have a legacy piece of real estate
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: So just an example there for it to kind of tie into that.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_02]: And the other thing I'm going to say here, Kern, and this is just kind of big Matt talking, like actually collects something.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like I have found that in order to bubble proof the market actually collects something.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I was going to say one of my sort of interruptive, but I was going to say,
- 29:22[SPEAKER_04]: And it comes from what you just said is, if the market crashes, if the card market crashes and it's bubble bursts, right, whatever we're in, are you okay holding the cards you have?
- 29:32[SPEAKER_04]: Are you going to be okay holding the cards you have financially, but also like emotionally or whatever?
- 29:38[SPEAKER_04]: Like are you okay if that card becomes worth nothing?
- 29:41[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and that's what I think when you say collect collect something, it's collect what you, to me, to me, what that means is collect something that makes you happy, too.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it's funny.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: A little man I get in this discussion all the time is funny because little Matt was like used to be not attached to cards at all.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's just about the negotiation in the sale.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's like, I, I, I, I,
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: I want to I want to win the negotiation I want to win the sale and I'm gonna move on.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: But now he's like starting to go dad like I really want this card and it's funny.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: We have a Michael Jordan scoring Kings is probably the most iconic Michael Jordan answer 1993.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: I once got one of those off of you guys.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, dude.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's a it's a great card and yeah, the thing is there are a good bit of them.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_02]: They're like 5,000 or 6,000 of them printed, but it's a very tough grade grade.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_02]: oil card.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's almost the exact same as like the Derek Geter SP, right?
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: And when you've got a PSA 10 in that Geter, it's just, you know, super, super low pops of super high value, same thing with even a 9, same thing with the scoring King's Jordan.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: We have a 9 right now.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_02]: There's only like 190 of them.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: And little Matt has that card as a dad of love that card.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, dude, you've doubled up on it.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like they're doing like 8k now.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like why don't you sell it?
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, I don't want to.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I just, I believe in the long-term value of that card,
- 30:57[SPEAKER_04]: Why don't we have some real balls and submit it for crack it and submit it for re-graded?
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if it were crumbed, if it were a crumb card, we would and that would be the we did that with the refractor, the Kobe and Jordan refractor, and we did jim it out of a nine, which was crazy.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_02]: But then now you've got a card that you paid 7k for and it's worth 22k.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I'm going to take my money, you know, I'm going to re-exwin.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: But it's funny because little mats get into a spot now.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, no, I actually want to hold that one too.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, I want to hold that one as well.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, bro, you realize you're holding like $80,000 in card right now.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like 80,000.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's a real like that's an annual salary for like most people in our area.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_02]: And you're holding it in cards.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and so we have to have that conversation all the time.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: But to that point, collect something that you enjoy, because he, he gives me a hard time.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, dad, when's the last time you, like, looked at your rippkins?
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, I do, man.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't tell you about it.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: But like, I'll occasionally, like, you know, yeah, I'll, I'll, I'll prick it up.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll just like, check it out.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: Now, like, look back at, like his season stats or what he did here or there.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, I kind of chased the rippkin thing for the first couple of years.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_02]: And now I've gotten some bigger rippkin cards.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: I can part with those old ones, you know, and so everything kind of goes and cycles for me with that, but having something that I actually care about owning is helpful for me to make me feel like I'm not just selling out to the cycle and the rhythm of everything.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, get that.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_02]: So any final thoughts man here on the the kind of the bubble chat and again, we're not saying there is a bubble like I'm not saying we're in a bubble I'm saying to have your radar on of a highly inflated market and to be smart about the different dynamics that make cards and assets unique so that you can hopefully protect your values long term so any exactly now just be vigilant like that's that's it you know what I mean.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think I think though now is a great time as any because what happens when new capital floods into a market is new capitals not necessarily smart capital and so that's where there's opportunities for folks who are smart and so when you see guys they need inventory to run their repacts they need inventory to run all of these ads for all the rips that they're doing you know
- 33:15[SPEAKER_02]: And there would be smart and, you know, kind of play that to your favor and don't get attached.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: The second part of that is, you know, be mindful of what you let go of as well.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: Because sometimes I know in the past, we've let go of stuff that truly is going to be very, very difficult to get back.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, that's that's the thing that I think I have I have trouble with and I I'm assuming a lot of people have that trouble with like you have those those ones that you wish you had back right like because you sold too short or whatever
- 33:45[SPEAKER_04]: And those are the ones that keep you.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_04]: I don't want to say emotionally ties to a car, but it keeps you weary of selling it, because you're like, that's what makes it hard.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_04]: Of you underselling one or two cards.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_04]: And like, Roman Anthony for me, right?
- 33:59[SPEAKER_04]: Like, it's in the back of my mind every time I sell a super.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 34:03[SPEAKER_04]: I'm making money, but then my underselling it.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_04]: Am I losing out on another $150,000?
- 34:08[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know what I mean?
- 34:09[SPEAKER_04]: Like, that's the truth.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_04]: That's what keeps me guessing.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_04]: So, so what would you say, Kern what what are the what are the Kern's haunts what are the cards that always pop up in your mind and to get a few instead of the Roman Anthony super yeah the Roman super obviously the yeah there was another one that I was thinking of the other day didn't you have like a true desire hope desire hope first home in red lava 10 10 yeah because he only had four red lovelies and the my first home in yet.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_04]: That one, that one, but it did bother me for a while.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't bother me as much the judge orange.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_04]: Well, there's two others that I can take up.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_04]: In an orange judge, an orange judge orange, first Bowman, I sold that way to go to cheap.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_04]: And it's probably worth about 50,000, 60,000 more than what I sold it.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_04]: And then the other still other one that makes me nauseous is a show.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_04]: pitching blue nine five ten auto that a I sold I don't want to say the number, but I Man I sold it at $18,000 and I made six k off of it and that card is $150,000 card right now That's my biggest regret that's crazy.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_04]: That's show it.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_04]: That is nuts.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: We had the show.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, not the disgusting
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I will say this.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: This is where a little map.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: He just wears me out because there was a show hay, blue batting, 9.5 at the Raleigh card show, probably two years ago, and it was 13 grand, and he said dad by this card.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: And it wrote, it's 13k.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's kind of getting up and trout range, you know what I mean?
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: And there's two of it, you know what I mean?
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: And again, now that's 150,000 of cards I collect.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, dude, that's life jamming for us.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, 100k on a card, it's like, just, that's life changing.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I'm saying money.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_02]: To a lot of money, that's a lot, a lot, a lot of cheddar on a car.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: So we have another card here recently that's popped off that we sold.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_02]: It was a Victor Wemin Yamma, it was a winby.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: It was his prism blue.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: So in the basketball world, a prism blue is not like a blue first woman.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's probably more like,
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: It has more lure than a blue, like you'm saying.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: So it's more like a gold or an R and John most of the lure, but it's I think it's still number to $1.99.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: But like Luca and Zion and those guys, I can 18 night.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's what really set that market off, you know?
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: So people about those blues, we had a windy blue little mat bought it for like 4k last year.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you got 5,200 on it, you know what I mean?
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: And he made whatever 1200 bucks, 30% What's it worth?
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: 20, 20, 25 K right now.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, and so he like he's like dad that that one's that one's killing me.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_04]: Of course, he was probably had a lot of those, though, because he didn't take things moving.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you have a ton and you never know which ones to hold.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_02]: Because by the same contrast, we've sold multiple Ronald of killing your true blues.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: And they're flat or down.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and then we, so we went back through our list.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_02]: We were looking at like cards that we sold.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_02]: There's another Jordan insert called a Jordan hot shots.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_02]: It was sold PSA 9 for like 7k.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's doing like 15k now.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple of cabooms that we had.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: Little Maggot got on these early year cabooms.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_02]: He saw that ahead of the time.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: And did we were making like 4k on like an 8k investment?
- 37:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: But now they've doubled again.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like mid-term.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_04]: You know, but it's the sauce something you're going to hold down to and take that risk at the time.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_04]: You know, yeah, that money tied up on it.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's crazy.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: And then, you know, we've got a one of the cards that I and you could probably go get it, but it was just the idea of the card when we got it.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_02]: It was a 1953 Mickey Manel.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_02]: It was the first big card we bought.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think we paid like 5k for it.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: It was a 3.5.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_02]: you know that that same cards probably only doing 6k now 6500 maybe but like at the same time it was that card.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean like and the cards aren't numbered but we knew what we had bought and who we bought it from and I love to have that card.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_02]: And so you know it's those those kind of moments are tough but here's the other thing.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: You only regret the cards you sold when they're up in value.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_04]: Of course.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_04]: Of course.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_02]: There's not a card a man on this that card, you know, because it's not worth anything.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: And when you're honest with yourself, the only thing you're bummed about is the fact of the money.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_04]: A 10 money that you're missing.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's where you got to be honest with yourself and say, yeah, we're really all in this for sure.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_04]: For the bill.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_02]: Before we go, we did have a call in from our buddy Roger, we're going to play that.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: Hey guys, this is Roger Subramani from Santa Barbara, California and I hope you guys are doing great.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for the show today.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just finished watching, you know, I know it was just a current Ham special, but we missed you above, but all the same great stuff as always.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_01]: The fatigue, theme, was definitely in full swing.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: I can sense it from both of you in different ways, but really, really appreciate the insights that you guys provided.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: Current, just want to tell you, the app is fantastic.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Congrats on getting it launched.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: Let the haters hate.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they just need to grow up and recognize
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: You saw an opportunity, you saw a need, you want to deliver it against it, and you did all the right things, and I'm just so glad that folks like you are out there doing what you can not only for yourself and frankly for the hobby as a whole, so thank you for doing that.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: Since you guys are the official podcast to just baseball, shouldn't you just link to RM's top 100, the just baseball top 100 as well?
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm sure RM would love it.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think I posted a note on that on YouTube.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: Anyhow, guys, really, really appreciate the great work.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are the best.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're looking forward to hopefully seeing you guys at the national on planning to be out there.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, in fact, I'm actually going to be talking
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Brent wire later this later this morning.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: I know he's a great friend of you guys and he's become a really good friend of mine as well.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: So looking forward to hopefully meeting you guys in person at the national.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: Anyhow, keep up the great work guys.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, sir.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: Rosor with the shade, the current shade, those some current shade, I love it.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_04]: I like it.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_04]: I actually took your suggestion, Rosor.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_04]: I saw your comment on YouTube and I talked to Arum and I added the just baseball top 100 in there as well.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_04]: There we go.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_04]: I took that and, you know, I've been adding some other stuff as we go.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_04]: I've been getting a lot of suggestions and it's there've been really helpful suggestions.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_04]: So download up or I should say go to the app store and update to version 1.13 because now there are push notifications.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_04]: while on the lock screen and while not in the app.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_04]: So version 1.13 will have them the notifications on the app and make sure you go or outside of the app in your lock screen home screen.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_04]: Make sure when you're in the app to go to the account page and then scroll down and you can see you could choose what you would like to get push notifications for.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_04]: Whether it's every app at just the final for your favorites, like their final line, just two hit games, just a home run, like, or all the above, what you can kind of, you could choose what you want to get push notifications for when you're outside the app.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_04]: So make sure you do that so you're not getting blown up all the time or you're not missing anything.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_04]: But everybody's feedbacks been, been great.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_04]: I appreciate all the, like, keep coming with feedback because I'll keep, you know, we'll keep updating as we need to once we see fit.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's good stuff.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_02]: Rajas always brought thanks for listening and being a part of the community.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm going to call it right now.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking forward to the national this year.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be there in Chicago.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: And we need to have little sports cards CEO community get up.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_02]: We need to figure that out, Kern.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to put you in charge of that because you're the guy with the connections to the rooms and stuff.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: We need to have like a sports card CEO like thing, right?
- 42:16[SPEAKER_04]: Where you, yeah, that's fine.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_04]: I'll take lead on it.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_04]: However, I will say, I won't be at the national.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: cash, man.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to get like a print out.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: Then get your printing company to print me a stand-up of Kern and I'm going to carry it around with me everywhere I go.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to be like walking around with the national floor where like a turn.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_04]: I will have, I will have, I will have cut out of each of the three of us.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so so we're going to need us like he's going to be like home alone.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like Kevin McAllister with Michael Jordan going on the train.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to have like the current and bubble print off.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: going to be like this.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm going to say if we do meet up there, I'm making Brent pay for dinner.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: So Brent way or like you're picking up dinner, we're going to Morton Steakhouse across the way and have a little sports car CEO get up on our buddy Brent way or we're going to get some good going there.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, bring we got to bring some of that Cali capital out east, baby.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, Cali capital out of the Midwest.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man, well, as always, buddy, appreciate you, man.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: Have a great week for our two men.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, guys, for being a part of the community.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_02]: Hope you guys saw some benefit in today's episode.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: Just a chat about things that we all think about and just bring it to the forefront.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_02]: So you boys be good.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for seeing next week.
