- 0:00Speaker 1: Yes, this is a tale of two gods, but only
- 0:03Speaker 1: one of them is God. Nebuchadnezzar's gods are not God.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And throughout this, what do we see? That God is
- 0:14Speaker 1: in control. But here's the question. If God is in control,
- 0:18Speaker 1: why are Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and all the other
- 0:22Speaker 1: young men taken away, castrated away? and then made to
- 0:30Speaker 1: serve a pagan king. Why? For that we go outside.
- 0:40Speaker 1: The judgment of God against Israel. Habakkuk 1.5. I did
- 0:46Speaker 1: an event a while back. This is several years ago.
- 0:50Speaker 1: And it was a missions conference. And they had as
- 0:52Speaker 1: their theme, their theme was beyond belief. And it came
- 0:58Speaker 1: from Habakkuk 1.5. Again, theme of the conference is beyond belief.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And their theme verse is Habakkuk 1.5. Look among the
- 1:06Speaker 1: nations and see, wonder and be astounded. For I am
- 1:09Speaker 1: doing a work in your days that you would not
- 1:11Speaker 1: believe even if someone told you. Wow. Missions conference. Beyond belief.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Look among the nations. I'm doing something that you wouldn't
- 1:21Speaker 1: believe even if someone told you. And so they wanted
- 1:25Speaker 1: me to preach from Habakkuk 1.5 at the missions conference.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Small problem. I kept reading. Listen to 6 through 11.
- 1:37Speaker 1: For behold, what's the thing that God is doing that
- 1:39Speaker 1: you wouldn't believe even if somebody told you? Look among
- 1:42Speaker 1: the nations. There's something happening that you wouldn't believe even
- 1:45Speaker 1: if somebody told you. For behold, I am raising up
- 1:48Speaker 1: the Chaldeans. There's Babylon. That bitter and hasty nation. who
- 1:53Speaker 1: march through the breadth of the earth to seize dwellings
- 1:58Speaker 1: not their own. They are dreaded and fearsome. Their justice
- 2:01Speaker 1: and dignity go forth from themselves. Their horses are swifter
- 2:05Speaker 1: than leopards, more fierce than the evening wolves. their horsemen
- 2:09Speaker 1: press proudly on their horsemen come from afar they fly
- 2:13Speaker 1: like an eagle swift to devour they all come for
- 2:17Speaker 1: violence all their faces forward they gather captives like sand
- 2:21Speaker 1: at the king they scoff at the rulers they laugh
- 2:25Speaker 1: they laugh at every fortress for they pile up earth
- 2:29Speaker 1: and take it then they sweep by like the wind
- 2:34Speaker 1: and go on guilty men whose own might is their
- 2:37Speaker 1: god What's the thing that God's doing that you wouldn't believe?
- 2:43Speaker 1: I'm going to bring a wicked king to judge my people.
- 2:51Speaker 1: But wait a minute, God. We're your people. How are
- 2:54Speaker 1: you going to use a godless nation to punish your people?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Is there another godly one? Find me a godly one
- 3:07Speaker 1: and I'll use them. Oh, you can't? Okay, here come
- 3:10Speaker 1: the Babylonians. Jeremiah 5.15 Behold, I am bringing against you
- 3:22Speaker 1: a nation from afar. O house of Israel, declares the Lord.
- 3:27Speaker 1: It is an enduring nation. It is an ancient nation.
- 3:30Speaker 1: A nation whose language you do not know. Nor can
- 3:34Speaker 1: you understand what they say. We could go on. And
- 3:39Speaker 1: on and on and on. They're here because of wickedness
- 3:45Speaker 1: and sin. They're here because of kings like Jehoiakim. They're
- 3:53Speaker 1: here because of idolatry. Here's the irony. They serve the
- 3:57Speaker 1: one true and living God and for whatever reason they
- 3:59Speaker 1: keep going after other gods. And God says, you want
- 4:03Speaker 1: to go after other gods? I can arrange that. God,
- 4:11Speaker 1: we want a king so that we can be like
- 4:13Speaker 1: the other nations. Really? You want to be like the
- 4:16Speaker 1: other nations? I can arrange that. They were wicked. And
- 4:28Speaker 1: God judged them. Remember those two questions. The first question,
- 4:35Speaker 1: is our God really God? That's the first question. Is
- 4:39Speaker 1: our God God? really God? The answer is yes. And
- 4:47Speaker 1: he proves that even in the midst of the most
- 4:50Speaker 1: horrible circumstances. Have you ever been there? Is our God
- 5:04Speaker 1: really God? I know you've asked that question. I've prayed
- 5:10Speaker 1: with some of you as you've asked that question. Why
- 5:17Speaker 1: is this happening if God is really God? But understand
- 5:22Speaker 1: the theology on the other side of that question. Here's
- 5:25Speaker 1: the theology on the other side of that question. If
- 5:28Speaker 1: God's really God, then bad stuff shouldn't happen to people
- 5:32Speaker 1: who belong to Him. Really? The spotless Sinless lamb of
- 5:41Speaker 1: God was crushed and killed by the father for the
- 5:44Speaker 1: father's glory, but you shouldn't experience bad stuff. Who do
- 5:51Speaker 1: you think you are? Do you have any idea what
- 5:55Speaker 1: you deserve? Do you have any idea what justice would
- 6:03Speaker 1: look like in your life today based on what you thought, said,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and did on yesterday? Okay. Have you any idea? We
- 6:11Speaker 1: still live in a fallen world. God owes us nothing.
- 6:22Speaker 1: He is sovereign over all things. Like I said, the
- 6:26Speaker 1: last time I checked, the death rate was one per person.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It awaits us all. It awaits us all. The question is,
- 6:40Speaker 1: Is our God truly God? It's not answered by your circumstances.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Daniel screams that to us. Is our God really God? Really,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you asking that question? Because Nebuchadnezzar's got all these guys
- 6:59Speaker 1: and they can't figure out his dreams. Who can? God's
- 7:03Speaker 1: people can. Really, you're asking if God's really God? God?
- 7:09Speaker 1: They throw us in the fiery furnace and we didn't burn.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And we weren't alone, by the way. And you're asking
- 7:15Speaker 1: if our God is really God? Are you serious? Really?
- 7:19Speaker 1: They threw Daniel in a lion's den with lions who
- 7:23Speaker 1: were hungry and they did not eat him. Really? Is
- 7:28Speaker 1: our God really God? Yes, he is. Yes, he is.
- 7:40Speaker 1: the creator and sustainer of the universe, and nothing catches
- 7:44Speaker 1: him by surprise. And he will even turn your trials
- 7:50Speaker 1: into a testimony. This is the only thing that keeps
- 7:55Speaker 1: us from spiraling out of control when difficulties come. Amen? Yes,
- 8:02Speaker 1: our God is God. Yea, though I walk through the
- 8:05Speaker 1: valley of the shadow of death, you are with me.
