- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and you and I have made it to
- 0:16the end of another week. It's the 23rd of May and it's
- 0:19Friday and it's great to have your company as we continue, as
- 0:24we do on Fridays, to dive back into some old school wisdom.
- 0:29Thank you King Solomon, thank you God for capturing it and
- 0:33sharing it with us through all the iterations that these things
- 0:37take before they reach the printed word sitting in your
- 0:41hand or the printed word that I'm going to read to you.
- 0:44Yes, there were many steps between the original thoughts
- 0:50and us getting to share them today, but here they are.
- 0:52Thank you, Holy Spirit for bringing them to us as we are
- 0:55going to read these to get a little bit of God's wisdom for
- 0:58you and I today because I certainly need it and I reckon
- 1:02you might too. So we are going to read together
- 1:05today. Proverbs 13, one to six.
- 1:18A wise child accepts a parent's discipline.
- 1:22A mocker refuses to listen to correction.
- 1:27Wise words will win you a good meal, but treacherous people
- 1:31have an appetite for violence. Those who control their tongue
- 1:37will have a long life. Opening your mouth can ruin
- 1:41everything. Lazy people want much but get
- 1:46little, but those who work hard will prosper.
- 1:52The godly hate lies. The wicked cause shame and
- 1:56disgrace. Godliness guards the path of the
- 2:02blameless, but the evil are misled by sin.
- 2:10And again, a wise child accepts a parent's discipline.
- 2:15A mocker refuses to listen to correction.
- 2:20Wise words will win you a good meal, but treacherous people
- 2:24have an appetite for violence. Those that control their tongue
- 2:30will have a long life. Opening your mouth can ruin
- 2:33everything. Lazy people want much but get
- 2:39little, but those who work hard will prosper.
- 2:45The godly hate lies, the wicked cause shame and disgrace.
- 2:53Godliness guards the path of the blameless, but the evil are
- 2:57misled by sin. Our Lord, here the proverb
- 3:11writer writes about people who want much but through their
- 3:16laziness only get little. Our Lord, you know that we live
- 3:21in a world that says more and more and more is better, and so
- 3:25if we leave it unchecked, our desires will grow and grow and
- 3:29we will want more and more. But Lord, You promise us
- 3:35contentment. You bring everything that our
- 3:39heart needs. Not everything the world tells
- 3:41us that we should want and need, but You fulfil the deepest
- 3:46desires of our heart. Lord, fine tune our focus so
- 3:51that rather than focusing on what the world tells us we
- 3:55should have let us lift our eyes to you and see in You everything
- 4:00that we need. We need Your love.
- 4:06We need our place in your Kingdom, we need a secure
- 4:10future, and we need an identity rooted in you and your
- 4:15perfection rather than us and our broken efforts.
- 4:20Oh, and let's face it, our laziness.
- 4:22Underneath it all, you are so good.
- 4:26And in you we have everything that we need.
- 4:30Build in us that sense of contentment that we can gaze
- 4:35upon you. Be content now.
- 4:39We love you and we see all that we need in you.
- 4:42And we pray all of this in your saving name, Jesus, Amen.
