Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello there, Welcome to the NED party.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:06Speaker 3: This is Nick and Astasu, story editor on Star Wars,
- 0:09Speaker 3: the Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch, and you
- 0:13Speaker 3: are listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:23Speaker 4: Dank Ferrick and welcome to Aggressive Negotiations, your Star Wars
- 0:26Speaker 4: podcast that lets you explore all of the unknown regions
- 0:30Speaker 4: of the Star Wars galaxy, far far away that you
- 0:32Speaker 4: never knew you wanted to get to. I am one
- 0:34Speaker 4: of your hosts, Jedi Master John Mills, and I'm joined
- 0:37Speaker 4: on this journey by the very learned and brilliant Chiss
- 0:43Speaker 4: Jedi Jedi Master Matthew Rushing. Master Rushing, how are you
- 0:47Speaker 4: today and how strategically ready are you for this discussion?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Well, I'm feeling a little blue today and so it
- 0:58Speaker 1: had to be done.
- 0:59Speaker 2: He's going to be here all night, folks. Just hang
- 1:01Speaker 2: on to your head.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, tipic waitress, eat the deal. But no, actually doing great.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to diving into season three here
- 1:10Speaker 1: of Mando because it basically just kicks right off, you know,
- 1:15Speaker 1: as if you know, nothing happened between season two and
- 1:19Speaker 1: season three, even though there was something that happened between
- 1:22Speaker 1: season two and season three. Season two point five. So yeah, hey, hey,
- 1:27Speaker 1: the Book of Boa Fet.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Let's go ahead and embrace that, because we're not talking
- 1:31Speaker 4: about the Book of Boba Fett, at least not right now.
- 1:34Speaker 4: But I will say that I've been going through everything
- 1:37Speaker 4: with my youngest and we did watch the Book of
- 1:41Speaker 4: Boba Fet, and I'm going to go ahead and I'm
- 1:43Speaker 4: going to cop to it. I'm going to let you
- 1:45Speaker 4: know that I really I never disliked the Book of
- 1:50Speaker 4: Boba Fet. There were parts of it that I thought
- 1:52Speaker 4: didn't work, and I was willing to say, Okay, you know,
- 1:55Speaker 4: it's because of production challenges and those sorts of things,
- 1:58Speaker 4: and the aforementioned it turns into The Mandalorian, you know,
- 2:02Speaker 4: near the end unexpectedly. But I think that it's a
- 2:08Speaker 4: show that should be judged much kinder in retrospect, and
- 2:13Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of value to the show
- 2:15Speaker 4: that we might have overlooked because coming out of season
- 2:19Speaker 4: two of The Mandalorian, our expectations were outsized. I think,
- 2:24Speaker 4: you know, after the Rescue, getting heroic Luke, it's disorienting
- 2:30Speaker 4: to have the Book of Boba Fett not be quite
- 2:33Speaker 4: up to the same sort of thing for whatever reasons.
- 2:36Speaker 4: But then we at least get young Luke teaching Grogu
- 2:40Speaker 4: and meeting Ahsoka and seeing that they're there and he's
- 2:42Speaker 4: building the temple. We're seeing all this good positive stuff,
- 2:45Speaker 4: and of course it serves the purpose of getting Crogu
- 2:48Speaker 4: back with the Mando replacing the ship so that we
- 2:50Speaker 4: can start season three, like you said, just off at
- 2:54Speaker 4: the races, going along with everything. So my question to
- 2:58Speaker 4: you is coming into season three, then were you excited?
- 3:03Speaker 4: Had Book of Boba Fet blunted some of the the
- 3:07Speaker 4: the anticipation for you or were you ready to be like, Okay,
- 3:11Speaker 4: let's get back to it, guys, I know you got
- 3:12Speaker 4: it in you.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I think coming back for season three at that point,
- 3:18Speaker 1: you know, the episodes of the Mandalorian were the best
- 3:22Speaker 1: part of the Book of Boba Fet for me at
- 3:24Speaker 1: that point, you know, And so I was very much
- 3:30Speaker 1: looking forward to diving into to season three of Mando
- 3:33Speaker 1: and seeing where they were going to go, you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: especially with that hanging thread of you know, knowing that
- 3:42Speaker 1: he's taken off his helmet and that puts him at
- 3:44Speaker 1: odds with his people, this Children of the Watch cult
- 3:49Speaker 1: from Mandalorian, there's a lot of great story in that.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I feel like this episode, though, needs to be one
- 3:55Speaker 1: where we kind of get something out of the way
- 3:58Speaker 1: at the beginning so we can actually he didn't talk
- 4:00Speaker 1: about the story itself of kind of what's being told
- 4:04Speaker 1: here and all the you know, the things in between.
- 4:07Speaker 1: But watching this episode last night and having just watched
- 4:12Speaker 1: season two again, it felt like a very clear drop
- 4:16Speaker 1: off between season two and three in the tightness of
- 4:21Speaker 1: storytelling and the consistency of the storytelling here in this episode.
- 4:26Speaker 1: This episode still feels so incredibly disjointed. They either needed
- 4:31Speaker 1: a longer episode or they needed to find a better
- 4:35Speaker 1: way of getting to the point of this episode.
- 4:39Speaker 2: But there's just it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It felt like, you know, when your girls used to
- 4:44Speaker 1: tell you a story when they were real little, and
- 4:48Speaker 1: it was just like and then and and something completely
- 4:52Speaker 1: out of the blue happens, and then and then the
- 4:55Speaker 1: something else completely out of the blue happens, and then
- 4:58Speaker 1: and that's this. This episode feels like and then in
- 5:02Speaker 1: the sense of, oh yeah, we want ig eleven, and
- 5:06Speaker 1: then and then we went and visited Bocaton and then
- 5:10Speaker 1: and oh yeah, we remember that time that we went
- 5:12Speaker 1: and visited the Armorer and she told us that thing
- 5:15Speaker 1: that we already knew, and it's just like, this episode
- 5:19Speaker 1: feels really disjointed to me, and so I wonder coming
- 5:23Speaker 1: back into it doesn't feel that way for you, because
- 5:26Speaker 1: I remember when we were reviewing the season we had
- 5:30Speaker 1: similar feelings. But I don't has that changed it all
- 5:33Speaker 1: for you?
- 5:34Speaker 4: It has on this rewatch, I understand what you're saying.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I don't discount it, but watching things in succession, like
- 5:42Speaker 4: you said, I do think that season two of The Mandalorian,
- 5:46Speaker 4: each episode is very disciplined in its storytelling, and it
- 5:49Speaker 4: saves the parenthetical stuff for the margins appropriately. I think
- 5:55Speaker 4: that what we see here is the Mandalorian falling victim
- 5:59Speaker 4: to try to force the mandate of a connected universe philosophy.
- 6:04Speaker 4: The first two seasons of The Mandalorian are self contained.
- 6:07Speaker 4: They are the story of the Mandalorian, and there are
- 6:10Speaker 4: things that can spring off from them. And I think
- 6:13Speaker 4: that the particular thing we have to acknowledge is that
- 6:15Speaker 4: Rangers of the New Republic. We're not going to get
- 6:17Speaker 4: into the why of anything like that. We don't want
- 6:19Speaker 4: to talk about that part of it whatever. But it
- 6:22Speaker 4: did get canceled and our friend Yancey, who's been on
- 6:25Speaker 4: the show would be the first to point out they
- 6:28Speaker 4: obviously took aspects of rangers of the New Republic and
- 6:31Speaker 4: they said, Okay, we got to put them somewhere. We
- 6:34Speaker 4: have to do the world building somehow, and so I
- 6:36Speaker 4: think you see the burden of the Connected Universe stuff
- 6:39Speaker 4: happening where it's like, oh, well, we got to have
- 6:42Speaker 4: it somewhere so that the people doing homework, like the
- 6:44Speaker 4: MCU fans can do the thing. I think the disjointed thing,
- 6:50Speaker 4: in all honesty is the stuff that happened in Book
- 6:54Speaker 4: of Boba Fet very clearly should have been in this season.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Bringing the Mandalorian in at the end of the Book
- 7:06Speaker 4: of Boba Fett was I think a panic move, not
- 7:10Speaker 4: because they didn't have faith in that product, but because
- 7:12Speaker 4: they were desperate to speed up the storytelling to make
- 7:16Speaker 4: room for other stuff in this and I think that
- 7:21Speaker 4: you see a little bit of that scramble happening here.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And in particular, what is.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Disjointed is that there should have been some story order
- 7:34Speaker 4: reorganization so that the Apostate simply dealt with Mandoin Grogu
- 7:42Speaker 4: getting their stuff together, getting ready to go to mandalor
- 7:44Speaker 4: maybe having a first failed mission to Mandalor and then
- 7:48Speaker 4: saying I need some help, and then at the end
- 7:52Speaker 4: going over to Navarro and saying, hey, we tried it
- 7:57Speaker 4: this way. I need a nig unit. Let's try that,
- 8:00Speaker 4: And then you end with that conundrum at the end
- 8:02Speaker 4: of it, so that when you go into the second episode,
- 8:06Speaker 4: it's a slightly it's the same setup. It's just things
- 8:09Speaker 4: have been reordered, and you know, to your point, it
- 8:13Speaker 4: is less disciplined than it's storytelling. It's a little bit
- 8:16Speaker 4: more disjointed. But at the same time, on this rewatch
- 8:20Speaker 4: and I'm going to cop to it. I'm gonna cop
- 8:21Speaker 4: to it the entire time we talk about this, I'm
- 8:23Speaker 4: watching it with my kid, And sometimes re teaching yourself
- 8:29Speaker 4: to watch things like a kid is actually a great
- 8:33Speaker 4: benefit because the stuff bothers you a little less because
- 8:38Speaker 4: you're sort.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Of just in a more forgiving mood. I guess.
- 8:41Speaker 4: So I'm just being upfront about that. If people want
- 8:45Speaker 4: to come at me and be like, oh, you just
- 8:46Speaker 4: you're just letting that cloud. Yeah, you're probably right, it's
- 8:48Speaker 4: probably true. But like there's stuff that I enjoyed watching
- 8:53Speaker 4: with her and going through, like when Mando shows up
- 8:57Speaker 4: with the giant crocodile monster and helps the other Mandalorians,
- 9:01Speaker 4: you know, survive it. During that opening sequence, you know,
- 9:05Speaker 4: we were able to have a talk whe was like,
- 9:08Speaker 4: you know, I found out a lot that my child
- 9:11Speaker 4: is a lot like her dad, because you know, our
- 9:14Speaker 4: mutual thought was like we kind of felt bad for
- 9:16Speaker 4: the crocodile monster because I was just doing his thing.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Man. You know, it wasn't doing it out of malice.
- 9:22Speaker 2: It was just just an animal, right, you know.
- 9:24Speaker 4: So like having those sorts of discussions and moments, and honestly,
- 9:29Speaker 4: because I've not shown her the sequel trilogy movies because
- 9:33Speaker 4: I love her, I she has no idea who bab
- 9:36Speaker 4: Babu Frick is or whatever. So her first encounter with
- 9:38Speaker 4: those little creatures, I mean a kid goes nuts for him,
- 9:42Speaker 4: you know, focus tested and that sort of stuff. But
- 9:46Speaker 4: you know what, actually, speaking of those I always forget
- 9:48Speaker 4: the name is they're Babu frick Zells.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Yeah whatever.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Sure was that a bridge too far for you in
- 9:56Speaker 4: any way because You're like, oh, okay, they got a
- 9:59Speaker 4: man to tie into the sequel trilogy or something like that,
- 10:03Speaker 4: or was that organic to you?
- 10:05Speaker 2: No?
- 10:05Speaker 1: I mean I thought that that was a fun use
- 10:07Speaker 1: of characters that they had utilized in the Rise of Skywalker,
- 10:11Speaker 1: and those characters themselves were fun. Bobo Frick was a
- 10:14Speaker 1: funny character, felt very Star Wars, and so I had
- 10:20Speaker 1: no issue with that, you know, inclusion. You know, I
- 10:25Speaker 1: think I love the way that you kind of restructured
- 10:28Speaker 1: things because again, I just think it makes more sense
- 10:31Speaker 1: in the watching. I mean, one of the weirdest things
- 10:34Speaker 1: about this episode is that they need a part for
- 10:39Speaker 1: Ig eleven, but instead of going to get the part,
- 10:42Speaker 1: they went and talked the Bokaton and it was just like,
- 10:45Speaker 1: you know, there's no logic to what's actually happening, and
- 10:49Speaker 1: so it just felt very strange. And I'm going to
- 10:51Speaker 1: say this and maybe it's not true, but I think
- 10:53Speaker 1: it is. You can, I think, really tell the deave
- 10:57Speaker 1: Filoni is doing ah Soca this moment and had focused
- 11:01Speaker 1: on that, and he's not there to help smooth out
- 11:05Speaker 1: some of that storytelling stuff where it's like, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 1: they had gotten so good at how to do this
- 11:12Speaker 1: in the Clone Wars and how to tell arc stories,
- 11:18Speaker 1: you know, within seasons, but making everything fit together. I
- 11:23Speaker 1: just I think you can you can see that his
- 11:25Speaker 1: polishing hand just isn't there at this moment. And I also,
- 11:29Speaker 1: I think you're one hundred percent correct on the idea
- 11:32Speaker 1: that you know, they want to expand this universe, but
- 11:36Speaker 1: I think they feel compelled to continue to do the
- 11:40Speaker 1: Mandalorian in the same way that they kind of had
- 11:43Speaker 1: been doing it the whole time, instead of maybe starting
- 11:47Speaker 1: to shift the storytelling a little bit, to have interconnected,
- 11:51Speaker 1: internerweaving stories throughout the season where it's it's more one
- 11:56Speaker 1: long story than it is just segmented episodes. And I
- 12:01Speaker 1: think that they're so beholdened to that idea that it
- 12:04Speaker 1: actually shackles them instead of being free to be like,
- 12:09Speaker 1: we're on streaming, we could do whatever we want, you know.
- 12:12Speaker 2: And so.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, at the same time, like you know, the whole
- 12:18Speaker 1: thing with the Mandalorians, and you know, the whole helmet
- 12:22Speaker 1: ceremony of this kid getting his helmet and knowing he'll
- 12:24Speaker 1: never get to take it off again. That's I don't
- 12:27Speaker 1: know if it is that child abuse or I'm not sure,
- 12:30Speaker 1: but it.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Would be child abuse if they never make the helmet larger,
- 12:35Speaker 4: that's true.
- 12:35Speaker 2: That would be I think a bad thing, you know.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So that is an interesting thing, you know, And I think,
- 12:43Speaker 1: you know, returning to Navarro and seeing how it's grown
- 12:46Speaker 1: is fun. Do the miss cardoon, but either nor.
- 12:52Speaker 4: You no, no, no, no, that is a there. Don't
- 12:55Speaker 4: say that's neither here nor there.
- 12:56Speaker 2: We're not again.
- 12:57Speaker 4: We're not going to talk about controversies or anything like that.
- 13:00Speaker 4: I'm going to ask you this question because you know
- 13:02Speaker 4: that I know that both of us fall on a
- 13:04Speaker 4: slightly different thing. I don't care who comes at me
- 13:07Speaker 4: for this. Instead of just ditching the character of Kara
- 13:10Speaker 4: Dune and having the lines like, oh, she's off doing
- 13:13Speaker 4: other things, I would have just recast her. I recasting happens, man,
- 13:20Speaker 4: I always go back. It's another Favreau property. Iron Man two.
- 13:23Speaker 4: They recast one of the major characters from iron Man
- 13:27Speaker 4: one between iron Man and one and iron Man two,
- 13:30Speaker 4: and nobody complained about Don Cheetle coming in. And I
- 13:34Speaker 4: think that there is this bizarre aversion to recasting people
- 13:39Speaker 4: that just blows my mind. Now, would it be the
- 13:43Speaker 4: same character, No, not really, But like Robin Curtis plays
- 13:48Speaker 4: Savag in Star Trek three, they needed Savag, so somebody
- 13:51Speaker 4: else stepped in. What do you think of that? Would
- 13:54Speaker 4: you have accepted a recast car a Dune.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I mean, it would have been interesting. And I think,
- 14:01Speaker 1: you know, it's a it's an interesting thought experiment. And
- 14:04Speaker 1: I can't say yes or no until having seen the product.
- 14:07Speaker 1: But I don't know if it if if it had
- 14:11Speaker 1: been done well right, it would have been fine. What
- 14:16Speaker 1: I have loved it, No, but I could have probably
- 14:21Speaker 1: come to accept it. And I think that's what's interesting,
- 14:24Speaker 1: is when you get to Navarro something is missing because
- 14:27Speaker 1: she's such a big part of the end of that
- 14:30Speaker 1: for second season and so and and I think it's
- 14:36Speaker 1: interesting too because there's all this time kind of spent
- 14:40Speaker 1: on Navarro in many ways that with these pirates and
- 14:45Speaker 1: all this stuff and it and it feels like if
- 14:47Speaker 1: you were going to cut anything from the season and
- 14:51Speaker 1: from this episode, it should have been this because it's
- 14:54Speaker 1: not important to the rest of where Mando's going. Yes,
- 14:58Speaker 1: And man, I still can't stand the goryan shard.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Look, I mean it it Captain Christmas Tree, you mean
- 15:07Speaker 2: it's it thing.
- 15:10Speaker 1: It looks like somebody dumped a Easter basket on their
- 15:15Speaker 1: head in that green grass that's in easter baskets at
- 15:19Speaker 1: the bottom. That's what's on his face. It was just
- 15:21Speaker 1: very frustrating. And I again, I think that the problem
- 15:25Speaker 1: with it is is that you should excize this part
- 15:28Speaker 1: of the story and just allow them to focus on,
- 15:32Speaker 1: you know, getting the part for Ig eleven that they
- 15:34Speaker 1: need and instead of having this whole asteroid secrets thing
- 15:39Speaker 1: and the pirates and all this, you could do that
- 15:43Speaker 1: and the storyline can move forward. So then when we
- 15:47Speaker 1: end with us talking to Bocaton, it makes sense.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Yes, And like I said, I'm a little bit more
- 15:56Speaker 4: forgiving of the show because you know, I saw it
- 15:59Speaker 4: works for a kid. But I did ask at the end,
- 16:03Speaker 4: I said, you know, did you like it? And I
- 16:06Speaker 4: was like, yeah, it was not as enthusiastic as previous
- 16:10Speaker 4: Mando episodes.
- 16:11Speaker 2: But it was you know, it was enough. It was enough.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 4: I think that there's you know, to your point. I mean,
- 16:19Speaker 4: this is the difficulty. When you have experienced enough film, TV, streaming, whatever,
- 16:27Speaker 4: there are things where you can see how things can
- 16:33Speaker 4: go together better, and it's tough not to fall into
- 16:37Speaker 4: the trap of sort of rewriting the episode to ameliorate
- 16:39Speaker 4: what didn't work, instead of just saying it didn't work
- 16:42Speaker 4: and it just doesn't work. And I think that it's
- 16:46Speaker 4: a sign of love and respect from us and from
- 16:49Speaker 4: other fans to do stuff like that, as frustrating as
- 16:53Speaker 4: it can be. And so like I say that all
- 16:57Speaker 4: the preface the fact that it's like, if you wanted
- 16:59Speaker 4: to keep the Pirates and you wanted to keep it focused,
- 17:01Speaker 4: have Mando go to some junkyard planet and have the
- 17:05Speaker 4: Pirates show up for some reason, and then you can
- 17:08Speaker 4: have the escape and that way it's not even tied
- 17:10Speaker 4: to Navarro and you'll say, oh, but the Pirates showing
- 17:14Speaker 4: up shows how Navarro has changed. I can already tell
- 17:17Speaker 4: Navarro has changed. I've been to Navarro before. I don't
- 17:20Speaker 4: need to see the Pirates.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yep.
- 17:22Speaker 4: And you know, like actually seeing the Pirates here in
- 17:27Speaker 4: this episode, I'm thinking, Okay, well, this is going to
- 17:30Speaker 4: really pay off later, isn't it. And we'll see as
- 17:33Speaker 4: we go through season three whether the payoff, whether the
- 17:36Speaker 4: Pirate's storyline really pays off or carries forward well.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And I do think that that is one of the
- 17:43Speaker 1: interesting parts of this season and just kind of us
- 17:46Speaker 1: having this discussion about this feeling of this disjointed nature,
- 17:53Speaker 1: even just of this first episode where it doesn't feel
- 17:55Speaker 1: like everything kind of makes logical senses to what we're
- 17:58Speaker 1: doing specifically or the which we're doing it or why.
- 18:02Speaker 1: And I think one of the fascinating things about this season,
- 18:05Speaker 1: and especially in the rewatch here, is does that get ameliorated,
- 18:11Speaker 1: because that's a huge problem I've had with the season.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Like there's some real good storytelling whise and where we
- 18:18Speaker 1: end up that I think is fantastic, and I'm really
- 18:22Speaker 1: excited to get to that stuff in this season, but
- 18:26Speaker 1: also in my brain there's this other stuff that I
- 18:28Speaker 1: remember where I'm like, oh man, I remember the issues
- 18:33Speaker 1: I had with this season by watching this episode right,
- 18:38Speaker 1: because this one became kind of indicative of the issues
- 18:43Speaker 1: that I had. And so I think that's going to
- 18:45Speaker 1: be really interesting to watch through this season to see
- 18:49Speaker 1: if that's helped. Because I did want to ask you
- 18:53Speaker 1: in the rewatch was there anything that stood out to
- 18:57Speaker 1: you other than the big scene with the Star Wars crocodile.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Was there anything else that you really really enjoyed about
- 19:05Speaker 1: the episode or thought was done really really well or
- 19:07Speaker 1: you felt like maybe you just didn't catch the first
- 19:10Speaker 1: time that you're like, oh man, that was good.
- 19:12Speaker 4: I don't think there's anything that I missed on the
- 19:15Speaker 4: first go round. But there is stuff that I enjoyed
- 19:17Speaker 4: more this time. I actually, you know, as much as
- 19:21Speaker 4: I wish they'd just recast Kara Doone, she was sort
- 19:24Speaker 4: of supposed to be missing by this point, I guess anyway,
- 19:27Speaker 4: if you were going to have Rangers of the New
- 19:28Speaker 4: Republic and everything like that. So what I actually enjoyed was,
- 19:32Speaker 4: I did enjoy Carl Weathers. I think he had a
- 19:37Speaker 4: moment to shine in this episode, and I really enjoyed
- 19:43Speaker 4: him pitching Mando on, Hey, why don't you settle down
- 19:47Speaker 4: and stay here?
- 19:48Speaker 2: We could use a guy like you.
- 19:50Speaker 4: And also I enjoyed, you know, the resurrection of IG
- 19:54Speaker 4: eleven and having it go hilariously wrong. I I enjoyed
- 20:00Speaker 4: that scene a great deal. I really enjoyed it, not
- 20:05Speaker 4: the least of which because they have the little moment
- 20:08Speaker 4: of you know, the statue the symbol of pride falling
- 20:15Speaker 4: over and having you know, crushing I G. Eleven's head
- 20:18Speaker 4: and everything. I really, you know, that stuff worked.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I was a lot really forget your head into it.
- 20:24Speaker 2: You know, hey, you know you got to use your head.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And I think that.
- 20:29Speaker 4: The Babu fricks worked a little better for me, just
- 20:32Speaker 4: because my kid loved them. So I was like, okay, fine,
- 20:35Speaker 4: all right, yeah that you recognize that you got a
- 20:38Speaker 4: family show here and everybody's here for baby Yoda, so
- 20:40Speaker 4: let's bring some more cuteness to it.
- 20:42Speaker 2: That works for me, Fine, what about you? Like? What
- 20:45Speaker 2: was really what really worked for you?
- 20:50Speaker 1: I enjoyed the I think they things on Navorrow with
- 20:56Speaker 1: Grief Karga. I enjoyed the idea of the the you know,
- 21:03Speaker 1: the and Zellen's and what they do, and the fact
- 21:07Speaker 1: that this place is so prosperous, you know, so that
- 21:09Speaker 1: they would come here and have a shop. I thought
- 21:11Speaker 1: was great. You know, I love watching h Grogu pick
- 21:16Speaker 1: them up, you know, and treat them like little stuffed animals.
- 21:21Speaker 2: It's hysterical. At least he's not trying to eat them.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's true. It's true, he's not trying to do that,
- 21:27Speaker 1: which is great. I thought all that stuff is great,
- 21:31Speaker 1: And it's the little moments in the episode I think
- 21:34Speaker 1: that I really enjoyed. And like you said, I think
- 21:38Speaker 1: just the presence that Carl Weathers is on the screen,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you know, he's having such a.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Good time rest in peace.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, and and that's what I love you know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: and I think knowing that he won't be part of
- 21:52Speaker 1: the Mandalorian anymore is really sad because he's he's just
- 21:59Speaker 1: a presence on SCO and and I think having him
- 22:03Speaker 1: on screen, and again, the whole idea of not having
- 22:06Speaker 1: car Dune on screen. You know, they were such a
- 22:09Speaker 1: great duo by the end of season two that there
- 22:12Speaker 1: is that thing that's missing. But yeah, I mean it's
- 22:15Speaker 1: a I think the thing about it is there's some
- 22:18Speaker 1: there's some fun in the episode. There's some real i
- 22:20Speaker 1: think dysfunction in the episode. But the same time, I'm
- 22:24Speaker 1: excited the idea of like going to go to mandalor
- 22:27Speaker 1: you know, to get to mandalor that that that part
- 22:30Speaker 1: of this story still has me hooked.
- 22:32Speaker 4: You know. Uh, you know what, I'm gonna go ahead
- 22:35Speaker 4: and say that what the thought that's in my brain
- 22:38Speaker 4: when you're like, oh, you know, grief Cargo is not
- 22:39Speaker 4: going to be there anymore, or car Dune's not there.
- 22:42Speaker 4: I start thinking of bands that have had member changes,
- 22:46Speaker 4: and sometimes it goes okay, you know, I'll actually I'll
- 22:50Speaker 4: actually say this will really annoy a lot of gen
- 22:53Speaker 4: xers out there. I actually think Sammy Hagar was an
- 22:56Speaker 4: upgrade over David Lee Roth. There I said it, I
- 22:58Speaker 4: mean it, I still mean it. I'll always mean it.
- 23:01Speaker 4: But then sometimes you have Steve Adler versus Matt Sorem
- 23:05Speaker 4: as the drummer on Guns n' Roses? Could you really
- 23:08Speaker 4: tell a difference?
- 23:09Speaker 2: Right?
- 23:09Speaker 4: Was there a thing? But Steve Perry Leave's journey? Was
- 23:12Speaker 4: it season three of the Dukes of Hazzard? Like, at
- 23:14Speaker 4: what point does the cast change really hurt you? That
- 23:19Speaker 4: is what I think remains to be seen with the
- 23:23Speaker 4: Mandalorian and Grogu movie, because you know that whatever they
- 23:29Speaker 4: had percolating in their collective consciousness in the writer's room
- 23:35Speaker 4: all those years ago when they first started thinking about
- 23:37Speaker 4: it as a possibility, Grief Karga and Kara Doom were
- 23:41Speaker 4: part of that movie. So will we detect their absence
- 23:46Speaker 4: when the movie shows up?
- 23:47Speaker 1: Its a great question. What what I hear you saying though,
- 23:50Speaker 1: is that you might as well jump? And so, yeah,
- 23:55Speaker 1: what are you coming into season three? Then? And rewatching
- 23:59Speaker 1: the episode? What are you going to rate this one?
- 24:01Speaker 2: Do you think? Honestly? I give it a solid three
- 24:04Speaker 2: and a half.
- 24:06Speaker 4: It's not the fives that I've been tossing around, and
- 24:10Speaker 4: I think that from a technical perspective, I think that
- 24:13Speaker 4: the outdoor work with the effects is phenomenal with the
- 24:18Speaker 4: space crocodile and the baptism scene and everything like that.
- 24:21Speaker 4: Knowing what they put into it, I was like, Wow,
- 24:23Speaker 4: that was amazing. But because of the disjointed nature, and
- 24:29Speaker 4: while I'm enjoying parts, like when I'm on Navarro, I'm
- 24:33Speaker 4: enjoying it, but then suddenly I'm on Pirates and I'm like,
- 24:35Speaker 4: Pirates is an interesting thing, and Navarro is an interesting thing,
- 24:38Speaker 4: and the Mandalorian sect is an interesting thing. But this
- 24:42Speaker 4: feels like two episodes that got put in a blender
- 24:45Speaker 4: and could have been separated out.
- 24:48Speaker 1: It would have been much cooler if the Pirates had
- 24:50Speaker 1: been the Pirates from Skeleton Crew, And yeah, they would
- 24:54Speaker 1: have been that tie.
- 24:55Speaker 4: In, so that would have been fantastic. So three and
- 24:59Speaker 4: a half for me, where's you come in with it?
- 25:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna give this. I think I'm gonna be
- 25:05Speaker 1: pretty harsh. It's a two and a half out of
- 25:07Speaker 1: five out. It's half a good episode, and partially because
- 25:11Speaker 1: I think that the episode it has half good ideas,
- 25:17Speaker 1: but it just can't figure out which ideas it really
- 25:20Speaker 1: wants to do. And I think that's the frustrating part
- 25:24Speaker 1: about that. But it you know, it's not like I
- 25:27Speaker 1: hate the season or the episode or anything like that.
- 25:31Speaker 1: It's just the other. Like you mentioned at the top
- 25:34Speaker 1: of the episode, season two ends in such a high
- 25:38Speaker 1: water mark. It's like peak Star Wars, and so when
- 25:41Speaker 1: you're coming into season three, man, you just want that
- 25:43Speaker 1: peak to continue. You don't want to hit a valley,
- 25:46Speaker 1: and I feel like this episode unfortunately becomes a bit
- 25:49Speaker 1: of a valley where you wouldn't want that to happen.
- 25:52Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm raring to go. As next week we
- 25:56Speaker 1: continue to the Minds of mandal Or. But John, if
- 25:58Speaker 1: people wanted to catch up with you and see what
- 26:00Speaker 1: else you've got going on these days, where do they
- 26:02Speaker 1: find you.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Well, you can find me hanging out with Captain Christmas
- 26:04Speaker 4: Tree as I affectionately call him also swamp Thing out

- 27:28Speaker 2: Oh watch out, the Christmas tree is loose. It's attacking again.
- 27:31Speaker 4: Ah master rushing, it's time to close these negotiations.
