- 0:00Speaker 1: Sports Fair Daily bringing you the midweek sports show right
- 0:04Speaker 1: here on 105.9 Radio Folkestone. Off to a bit of
- 0:11Speaker 1: a wobbly start there, weren't we? You love live radio.
- 0:19Speaker 1: No guests today as we've plenty of local sport to
- 0:22Speaker 1: catch up on from the last couple of weeks. We
- 0:25Speaker 1: have news on football, rugby, hockey... netball, charity quiz nights, basketball,
- 0:33Speaker 1: the Givaudan 10k, and a charity fun run. Now this week,
- 0:46Speaker 1: three veteran musicians have their birthdays, so we're going to
- 0:50Speaker 1: start with the oldest one. Cliff Richard was 86 recently.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Now this track was released in 1979 and stayed at
- 0:58Speaker 1: number one for four weeks. So happy birthday to Cliff.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Let's have a little listen to this one for ages.
- 1:11Speaker 1: How often do I say that on this show? This
- 1:14Speaker 1: is Cliff Richard and we don't talk anymore. used to
- 1:38Speaker 1: think we were so complete i can't believe cliff richard
- 1:52Speaker 1: there we don't talk anymore from 1979 oh that's a
- 1:54Speaker 1: great old song isn't it you know do you know
- 1:57Speaker 1: what i just got the lyrics up on my phone
- 2:00Speaker 1: you know and i was singing my head off here
- 2:02Speaker 1: so because um You know what it's like. You kind
- 2:04Speaker 1: of like a song, but you don't know the words.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So I looked up the words, and they're really quite good, actually.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And I know he got a lot of stick from
- 2:11Speaker 1: a lot of sections of the music industry, but he
- 2:14Speaker 1: really was an artist, wasn't he? Anyway, Sir Cliff, happy
- 2:18Speaker 1: 86th birthday today. Right, let's not hang about. We've got
- 2:22Speaker 1: a busy show. Let's start off with football. Folks in
- 2:25Speaker 1: Evicta are now facing up to life in the National
- 2:27Speaker 1: League South after having a runaway season last season. They're
- 2:31Speaker 1: now sitting 15th in the league out of 24 teams,
- 2:34Speaker 1: so their last win was back in 31st August against
- 2:38Speaker 1: Hemel Hempstead. But by all accounts, they played well last
- 2:41Speaker 1: Saturday in a way fixture at Western Supermare, where the
- 2:44Speaker 1: final score was 1-1. Western Supermare are one of the
- 2:48Speaker 1: teams tipped to be in the play-off chances, so let's
- 2:51Speaker 1: hope the corners turn. They're going through a bit of
- 2:53Speaker 1: a rough patch, really, aren't they, folks? This Saturday, they're
- 2:56Speaker 1: at home to AFC Totten, who are currently in 20th place.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Hive Town are certainly putting a smile back on their
- 3:03Speaker 1: fans' faces as last Saturday they came from a 2-1
- 3:08Speaker 1: down to win 5-2 against Worthing United. This was in
- 3:12Speaker 1: the first round of the FA Vars and it earned
- 3:15Speaker 1: the club £ 825. With a crowd of 240 at the
- 3:20Speaker 1: Alkaline Stadium, the team rose to the occasion, having now
- 3:23Speaker 1: gone unbeaten all season, drawing just one game and sitting
- 3:27Speaker 1: third in the tables. Ground sharing certainly has made a
- 3:30Speaker 1: difference on the pitch anyway, as it means that their
- 3:33Speaker 1: fans don't have so far to travel. And if you remember,
- 3:35Speaker 1: they played their first seven league games, they played them
- 3:39Speaker 1: away from home, a bit like Folkestone did last year. Well,
- 3:43Speaker 1: this Saturday is a fixture against Chislehurst Glebe in the
- 3:45Speaker 1: Kent Senior Trophy, once again at the Alkaline Stadium. And
- 3:50Speaker 1: this time it's got a 7.45 kick-off, because it is
- 3:53Speaker 1: this Saturday, remembering that Invicta play at home today, with
- 3:56Speaker 1: a 3pm kick-off. So it's a double whammy of football
- 4:00Speaker 1: at Churran Road. So there's a lot to be said
- 4:02Speaker 1: for the artificial pitches. I know that they've got to
- 4:05Speaker 1: get the income in, but it kind of works both ways.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Hive are having trouble with their ground, and needed to
- 4:13Speaker 1: ground share, needed to find a bit of a base,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and obviously, you know, Folkestone was the obvious choice. OK,
- 4:20Speaker 1: so we're going to go straight on to our second
- 4:22Speaker 1: birthday boy, and this is Justin Hayward. Now this is
- 4:26Speaker 1: a song that has really, really stood the test of time,
- 4:29Speaker 1: you know. It was brought out first off in 1967.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So Justin Hayward was with the Moody Blues. So sit
- 4:37Speaker 1: back and enjoy Nights in White Satin. Nights in White
- 4:48Speaker 1: Satin Nights in White Satin Never reaching the end. Moody Blues.
- 5:09Speaker 1: With the vocals of Justin Hayward there. Nights in White Satin.
- 5:19Speaker 1: You know, once again, I've been googling In Between Songs
- 5:23Speaker 1: and it's amazing how songs... are composed and this one
- 5:28Speaker 1: was a kind of a somebody dumped him to be
- 5:30Speaker 1: honest in today's terms and he was all upset and
- 5:33Speaker 1: melancholy and at one point his girlfriend did give him
- 5:38Speaker 1: give him a set of sheets white satin sheets and
- 5:43Speaker 1: he was all upset and he kind of brought that
- 5:46Speaker 1: into his song so there you go you learn something
- 5:49Speaker 1: every day especially on live radio when you've got a
- 5:51Speaker 1: bit of time in between songs and you You get
- 5:53Speaker 1: on the old Google machine. Anyway, this is a bit
- 5:56Speaker 1: more football to do, actually. So let's crack on. Now,
- 6:01Speaker 1: on the NRG Kent County League website, the away game
- 6:04Speaker 1: between AMG Ballers and Hawkingstown was shown as postponed, so
- 6:09Speaker 1: I'm not really exactly sure what happened there. But New
- 6:12Speaker 1: Romney had another bad day, this time being beaten 5-0
- 6:15Speaker 1: by a team called the Charco FC from Division 1,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and that was in the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield. So
- 6:22Speaker 1: this week I found a fixture for New Romney who
- 6:24Speaker 1: are away to Kings Hill. Owen Hawkins are scheduled to
- 6:27Speaker 1: play away at Tenterden. But once again, I'm not sure
- 6:30Speaker 1: what's happening there because I spotted that Tenterden have got
- 6:34Speaker 1: a home game against somebody else. So I don't know,
- 6:37Speaker 1: just to wait and see on that one. But they've
- 6:40Speaker 1: had a bit of good news up there. They've got
- 6:42Speaker 1: a new management team. It's been brought in to try
- 6:45Speaker 1: and turn things around. They've got a team of experienced
- 6:48Speaker 1: ex-players and coaches called Roy Godden and Dave Johncock. Now,
- 6:54Speaker 1: Roy Godden was quite a prolific footballer in local football.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I think he played for Highland. And so we want
- 7:02Speaker 1: to wish him all the best. You know, I think
- 7:04Speaker 1: it's about time we got somebody in from Hawkins Football Club.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I've been supporting them. watching their progress since they started.
- 7:13Speaker 1: They are actually called Hawkins Town. And I do remember saying,
- 7:16Speaker 1: I didn't know Hawkins was a town. So I really
- 7:19Speaker 1: think we should get somebody in and explain what's going
- 7:21Speaker 1: on up there. So moving on to folks in the
- 7:24Speaker 1: Invicta disability football team. Well, they've been in action in
- 7:28Speaker 1: a tournament at Faversham. In their first game, they beat
- 7:32Speaker 1: Gravesham 1-0. The goal coming from their very own veteran
- 7:35Speaker 1: player manager and former guest to the show, Geraint Wilson,
- 7:38Speaker 1: with a header. I didn't know Geraint could hit the ball,
- 7:41Speaker 1: did you? The second game saw them lose 1-0 to Chatham.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Invicta were peppering the Chatham goal with no effect. Then
- 7:49Speaker 1: a long ball over the top saw the defender slip,
- 7:51Speaker 1: allowing the Chatham forward to score. The next game was
- 7:55Speaker 1: a 0-0 draw against Charlton side. Unfortunately, an Invicta player
- 7:59Speaker 1: was shown a blue card. Now, I didn't know what
- 8:02Speaker 1: this meant, a blue card, so I did have to
- 8:03Speaker 1: text Geraint. But a blue card means a spell in
- 8:07Speaker 1: the sin bin, which isn't too bad. But then this
- 8:09Speaker 1: was changed to a red card when the player showed
- 8:12Speaker 1: dissent towards the referee. The next game was a tough
- 8:16Speaker 1: one as they were down to six men, six against seven,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and lost 3-0 to South East Goals. And their final game,
- 8:22Speaker 1: still with just six players, saw them narrowly lose 1-0
- 8:25Speaker 1: against Maidstone Gold. With everybody working so hard, it was
- 8:29Speaker 1: tough to choose a man of the match, man of
- 8:31Speaker 1: the tournament in fact, but it was awarded to Sonny Perry.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So well, congratulations to you Sonny. Now, their next fixture
- 8:37Speaker 1: is a good one. It's an 11-a-side game at the
- 8:40Speaker 1: Three Hills on the 25th of October against a Chelsea
- 8:43Speaker 1: disability side. Now, if you remember, last season I did
- 8:47Speaker 1: go along on the coach with the lads to the
- 8:51Speaker 1: Chelsea training ground. And the disability team do actually play
- 8:55Speaker 1: at the Chelsea Premier Division training ground. And it is
- 9:01Speaker 1: just a wonderful experience. I don't know, expanse of football
- 9:05Speaker 1: pitches of grass, 3G, indoor. It is an amazing, I
- 9:12Speaker 1: don't know, set-up, really. So, I mean, that in itself
- 9:15Speaker 1: will attract good players, won't it? Yeah, so anyway, I'm
- 9:20Speaker 1: going to see if I can get down there and
- 9:22Speaker 1: watch that one. OK, moving on, another, our third birthday
- 9:26Speaker 1: boy is 77. Now, this is a song which you
- 9:31Speaker 1: either hate it or you love it. It really is.
- 9:33Speaker 1: It's another song that apparently this writer, it reminds him
- 9:41Speaker 1: of the first time he saw his girlfriend, who moved
- 9:44Speaker 1: on to be his wife, and because she was dressed
- 9:47Speaker 1: in red. Yep, you guessed it. This is Krista Berg
- 9:51Speaker 1: and Lady in Red. I've never seen you looking so
- 10:00Speaker 1: lovely as you did tonight I've never seen you shine
- 10:04Speaker 1: so Christy Berg there, Lady in Red. And that was
- 10:27Speaker 1: from 1986. You know, that was a hit all around
- 10:30Speaker 1: the world, it was. And some people just absolutely hated
- 10:34Speaker 1: that song, you know. But I will tell you a
- 10:36Speaker 1: little story, actually. It's just reminded me. My partner Sue,
- 10:40Speaker 1: she had a big birthday. I won't say which one
- 10:43Speaker 1: it was, but it had a nought on the end
- 10:45Speaker 1: of it. So she decided to have a party. And
- 10:49Speaker 1: she put out that the theme was black and white.
- 10:52Speaker 1: So people could come along, just quite simple, wearing anything
- 10:55Speaker 1: black or white, or black and white. Anyway, so Sue
- 11:00Speaker 1: wanted to find a stunning dress to kind of really
- 11:04Speaker 1: stand out. So we went everywhere. And you know, fellas,
- 11:08Speaker 1: what it's like. What do you think of this? Oh, yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 1: it's really nice. Oh, yeah, you don't like it, do you?
- 11:13Speaker 1: And oh, I can't remember the amount of times we
- 11:16Speaker 1: went through that scenario. We went everywhere that I could
- 11:19Speaker 1: think of. I'll tell you what, we even had a
- 11:22Speaker 1: day out in France in, what do you call it,
- 11:25Speaker 1: Carrefour places, you know, the city of Europe, that's it,
- 11:29Speaker 1: looking at dresses. Anyway, on the night, okay, get ready
- 11:33Speaker 1: for this. On the night, everybody was there, all in
- 11:36Speaker 1: black and white, looking great. And what happens? Sue walks
- 11:40Speaker 1: in in a red dress. Yeah. After all that traipsing
- 11:44Speaker 1: around the southeast of England, but I will say she
- 11:48Speaker 1: did look rather nice. But it even shook me after
- 11:53Speaker 1: all the aggravation I've been through. OK, anyway, let's move
- 11:55Speaker 1: on to rugby now. Now, Folkestone, not a good day,
- 11:59Speaker 1: not a good weekend for rugby locally. Folkestone, first 15,
- 12:04Speaker 1: were away to Tunbridge Wells, second 15, but lost by
- 12:07Speaker 1: 22 points to six. This Saturday, they're at home to
- 12:10Speaker 1: Medway Seconds. The Folkestone, second 15, didn't have a good
- 12:14Speaker 1: day either, losing to Canterbury Zingari by 64 points to 26.
- 12:20Speaker 1: And sadly, the ladies lost on Sunday by 39 points
- 12:23Speaker 1: to 20 against Tunbridge Jadians. Captain Shelley Osborne told me
- 12:29Speaker 1: it's been a tough season so far. They've been coping
- 12:32Speaker 1: with a lot of injuries and it's a bit tough
- 12:36Speaker 1: because they've got another division and it's tough anyway. Their
- 12:39Speaker 1: next game is this Sunday away to Old Beckerhamians. Now
- 12:44Speaker 1: junior rugby, now these are the results I could find.
- 12:47Speaker 1: The Folkestone under-13s drew 15-all against the Big Thanet side,
- 12:51Speaker 1: going in at half-time with a 10-5 lead. Thanet came
- 12:55Speaker 1: out strong in the second half, scoring twice, but the
- 12:58Speaker 1: Folkestone boys put their training into practice, scoring one more try,
- 13:02Speaker 1: making the final result 15-all. The under 12s had a
- 13:06Speaker 1: great 70 points to 10 win over Tunbridge in which
- 13:11Speaker 1: last week's guest, remember Oli? Young Oli came on the
- 13:15Speaker 1: radio with John and Eve and Martin. Anyway, last week
- 13:21Speaker 1: Oli told us that he'd scored quite a few tries
- 13:24Speaker 1: but he didn't manage to get on the score sheet
- 13:26Speaker 1: but no doubt as fly half he provided a few
- 13:29Speaker 1: try scoring passes. Now the under 9s, now we've had
- 13:33Speaker 1: under 9s in as well. We had William and Pippa in,
- 13:38Speaker 1: that's right, not so long ago. Now, they had a
- 13:41Speaker 1: brilliant day. They played in a tournament at Saracen's Ground
- 13:44Speaker 1: before the Premier Game against Bath. Teams from Hertfordshire, London
- 13:49Speaker 1: and Surrey were invited, but unfortunately, two teams never made it.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And these two teams were focused as opponents. So, because
- 13:57Speaker 1: they sent up a squad, they were able to make
- 14:00Speaker 1: up two teams to play each other. And this was
- 14:04Speaker 1: noticed by the Saracens. And consequently, the under-9s were asked
- 14:08Speaker 1: to carry out the flag ahead of the first team game,
- 14:11Speaker 1: ahead of the Saratons versus Bath, in a premier match
- 14:16Speaker 1: in front of thousands and thousands of people. And my word,
- 14:19Speaker 1: what must an honour that have been for the club,
- 14:23Speaker 1: the kids, the parents, and just everybody involved with folks
- 14:27Speaker 1: from Rugby Club. So well done to the under-9s. And
- 14:30Speaker 1: a big well done to Lee Fitchie for looking after them,
- 14:33Speaker 1: and the rest of the team, of course. but instilling
- 14:36Speaker 1: them the virtues of the rugby and the discipline and
- 14:39Speaker 1: the commitment, which shone through, which is why Saracens picked
- 14:43Speaker 1: them out. OK, moving on to 1993 now. I love
- 14:46Speaker 1: this song, Say No More, Ace of Base and The Signs.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Ace of Base, 1993. And from what I can remember,
- 15:18Speaker 1: there was this song and another song. They were kind
- 15:20Speaker 1: of two-hit wonders, but I do love those songs, you know. Right,
- 15:25Speaker 1: let's crack on. I'm talking too much, actually. Let's get
- 15:29Speaker 1: on with these reports, shall we? Well, a couple of
- 15:31Speaker 1: weeks ago, I was on the mic helping out a
- 15:34Speaker 1: coastal strider called Emily Sayer. She hosted, it was unofficial, actually,
- 15:39Speaker 1: but it did work. It was a 10K, a 5K show.
- 15:42Speaker 1: and a children's race. Emily has a place in next
- 15:45Speaker 1: year's London Marathon and is raising money for her chosen charity,
- 15:49Speaker 1: the National Deaf Children's Society. Emily has recently become a
- 15:53Speaker 1: teacher of the deaf, so it's a charity close to
- 15:55Speaker 1: her heart. Her running club, the Coastal Striders, supported her,
- 15:59Speaker 1: plus runners from Dill Tri Club and Thanet Road Runners,
- 16:02Speaker 1: plus many family and friends, not forgetting her husband Darren.
- 16:06Speaker 1: There were nearly 60 adult runners and 20 children taking
- 16:10Speaker 1: part in the stunning, it really was a stunning setting,
- 16:13Speaker 1: right at the end of the promenade in Birchington, underneath
- 16:16Speaker 1: the white cliffs. The weather was nice and sunny, it
- 16:19Speaker 1: had a little breeze but almost perfect as quite a
- 16:22Speaker 1: few runners obtained personal best times. It was a lovely feel,
- 16:27Speaker 1: good morning, I must admit, I was so pleased to
- 16:29Speaker 1: help out. The kids race especially was great fun as
- 16:33Speaker 1: they were all given a medal which most of them
- 16:35Speaker 1: didn't take off all day. and they loved hearing their
- 16:37Speaker 1: names called out as they were cheered in by the
- 16:40Speaker 1: very enthusiastic crowd. Now, Emily made around £ 600 towards her
- 16:45Speaker 1: target of £ 2, 200, which last time I looked was standing
- 16:49Speaker 1: at £ 1, 800, so she's not too far away, is she? Now,
- 16:53Speaker 1: she told me that she might organise a charity bingo,
- 16:56Speaker 1: which I'm sure will be great fun. So, well done
- 16:58Speaker 1: everybody who supported Emily. It was indeed a successful morning,
- 17:02Speaker 1: and I tell you what, I really loved it. So
- 17:05Speaker 1: moving on to 1997, this one. There's some great tracks
- 17:09Speaker 1: on here today. This is Sheryl Crow with Change Would
- 17:12Speaker 1: Do You Good. Sheryl Crow. A change is going to
- 17:38Speaker 1: do her good, by the sound of it. OK, moving
- 17:43Speaker 1: swiftly on. Last Friday, I was a quiz master at
- 17:46Speaker 1: Laurel Court for a lady called Samantha Stroud. Sam, as
- 17:50Speaker 1: she's known, hasn't run for a few years, but after
- 17:53Speaker 1: a tragic family event, she decided to get her trainers
- 17:56Speaker 1: out and she now has a confirmed place in the
- 17:59Speaker 1: London Marathon 2027, raising money for the British Heart Foundation. Well,
- 18:04Speaker 1: it was a packed house at Laurel Court and the
- 18:06Speaker 1: evening went well, raising a magnificent £ 940, bringing her sponsorship
- 18:11Speaker 1: money up to £ 2, 500. So she's done so well and
- 18:15Speaker 1: there's still plenty of time to go. Big thanks goes
- 18:18Speaker 1: to Diane and Paul Spearpoint whose work behind the scenes
- 18:21Speaker 1: was tremendous. A raffle was held and I must admit
- 18:24Speaker 1: I've never seen so many prizes of such good quality.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Now Sam seems to be on track with her running
- 18:30Speaker 1: as this Sunday she takes on the Maidstone Half Marathons. Now,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I always say at quizzes, you only get out what
- 18:35Speaker 1: you put in. And a lot of hard work went
- 18:38Speaker 1: into this one from Sam, Dai, Paul and many, many more.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And it did indeed reap the benefit. Now, Sam has
- 18:47Speaker 1: an inner desire to finish this marathon. So we wish
- 18:49Speaker 1: her all the best and be keeping an eye on
- 18:52Speaker 1: her progress. So we're going to move on now to
- 18:55Speaker 1: the Givaudan 10K. The race celebrated this year is 40th birthday.
- 19:01Speaker 1: And I'm showing my age now, but I actually ran
- 19:04Speaker 1: in the first one back in 1986. These days it
- 19:08Speaker 1: starts and finishes in the Julie Rose Stadium. But back
- 19:10Speaker 1: then we started and finished at the Stewart Centre in
- 19:13Speaker 1: the Ashford Town Centre. 39 athletes from the Folkestone Club
- 19:17Speaker 1: took part. Joe Bruce was the first home for the
- 19:19Speaker 1: club in 34 minutes 31 seconds. And Nikki Goodwin was
- 19:24Speaker 1: first female in 41 minutes 30 seconds. And that was
- 19:29Speaker 1: a PB time. Now it must have been a great
- 19:32Speaker 1: day for running as 16 runners managed PB times from
- 19:35Speaker 1: the Folkestone Club. Overall first male home was England international
- 19:40Speaker 1: Charlie Brisley in a time of 29 minutes 24 seconds.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And second male home was the home club actually, Ashford
- 19:47Speaker 1: AC is the home actually. Roche Stadium, anyway that was
- 19:51Speaker 1: Wegetar Zerum who recently won the Folkestone half coming in
- 19:55Speaker 1: just two minutes after Charlie Brisley first female home was
- 20:00Speaker 1: Lucy Parker from Canterbury Harriers and the second female was
- 20:04Speaker 1: Verity Hodges from Deal Tri Club in a race that 1,077
- 20:09Speaker 1: runners crossed the finish line. So a lot of local
- 20:13Speaker 1: interest and a lot of local top-class runners finishing in
- 20:16Speaker 1: the top 10 there. Now, Julie Rose herself was an
- 20:20Speaker 1: international athlete. You know, sometimes we take these stadiums and
- 20:23Speaker 1: memorial games and things like that for granted, but listen
- 20:26Speaker 1: to this little story behind the Julie Rose Stadium. Julie
- 20:31Speaker 1: Rose was an international athlete who was tragically killed in
- 20:34Speaker 1: a plane crash in November 1985 age just 21. Julie
- 20:39Speaker 1: won the 1500 meters at all age groups at the
- 20:42Speaker 1: English schools championships and the national 3000 meters indoor championships
- 20:48Speaker 1: which led to an international appearance at the age of
- 20:50Speaker 1: just 17. Now a memorial fund was set up for
- 20:55Speaker 1: Julie and it was hoped back in 1986 they would
- 20:58Speaker 1: lead on to an athletic track and a stadium. Now
- 21:02Speaker 1: this came to fruition when the Julie Rose Stadium was
- 21:04Speaker 1: officially opened in May 1997 by four times Paralympic and
- 21:09Speaker 1: World Athletics Championship gold medalist Tani Gray. Tani went on
- 21:14Speaker 1: to win the London Marathon six times in a wheelchair
- 21:17Speaker 1: between 1992 and 2002 and was also made a Baroness.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Now for me, this race will always be the Julie
- 21:26Speaker 1: Rose 10K, but we must thank sponsors Givaudan and remember
- 21:30Speaker 1: that this stadium reminds us of Julie Rose, a promising
- 21:33Speaker 1: young athlete from Ashford, who lost her life at a
- 21:36Speaker 1: very early age. Now, perhaps a lot of people don't
- 21:39Speaker 1: know that story. They might have been going to the
- 21:41Speaker 1: Julie Rose Stadium for a number of years, but just
- 21:44Speaker 1: took it for granted that it was Julie Rose. Who
- 21:47Speaker 1: was she? So, yeah, I hope that just makes things
- 21:49Speaker 1: a little bit clearer. Radio. Oh, stepping right up to 2008.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Stepping back in time. This is Kylie Minogue. They're back
- 22:26Speaker 1: in time, Kylie Minogue. She made some bouncy old records,
- 22:31Speaker 1: didn't she? Kind of feel-good music, yeah. In the car,
- 22:34Speaker 1: turn it up. Oh, you need a bit of sunshine,
- 22:37Speaker 1: don't you? Right, let's move on. We are running out
- 22:40Speaker 1: of time and I've still got quite a bit to
- 22:42Speaker 1: get through. So we're going to turn our attention to
- 22:44Speaker 1: the East Kent Youth Basketball League. Now, the Folkestone Saints
- 22:49Speaker 1: are back in action. The first day of the season
- 22:51Speaker 1: was last Sunday. So let's see if I can get
- 22:55Speaker 1: all these right. The under-12 mixed team, and they've got
- 22:58Speaker 1: two mixed teams. The under-12 mixed team, they played Herne
- 23:01Speaker 1: Bay under-12 mixed team, and they beat them 38 points
- 23:05Speaker 1: to 36, which if anyone knows anything about the scoring
- 23:08Speaker 1: in basketball, that is so close. The other Saints under-12
- 23:14Speaker 1: mixed team, they beat Canterbury Kings 34-11. They've got two
- 23:20Speaker 1: under-16 boys team. Unfortunately, the under-16 boys lost 44-23 to
- 23:27Speaker 1: the Herne Bay boys. But the other under-16 team, they
- 23:31Speaker 1: beat Canterbury Kings by 34 points to 30. So coming
- 23:37Speaker 1: up at the Three Heels on Saturday, we've got two games.
- 23:41Speaker 1: We sort of move up the age group now. We've
- 23:44Speaker 1: got the under-16 boys. They are playing at 315. and
- 23:48Speaker 1: they are playing against Sussex Storm. And the under-18s are
- 23:53Speaker 1: there before them. They play at 1.15, and they are
- 23:56Speaker 1: playing North Fleet Crusaders, both those games at the Three
- 24:00Speaker 1: Hills Sports Park. So we haven't even started on the hockey.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Three Hills is going to be so busy on Saturday.
- 24:07Speaker 1: So if you want to get up there, probably best
- 24:09Speaker 1: to get the bus. Right, music. Take that. Rule the world.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Light the skies Up above me. There we go. Take that.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Rule the world. 2006. Right. Netball news now. Now, this
- 24:30Speaker 1: really is hot off the press. And I want to
- 24:32Speaker 1: thank Gemma Harbour there because the netball always plays on
- 24:36Speaker 1: a Wednesday evening at the Three Hills. And, I mean,
- 24:39Speaker 1: everyone leads busy lives. And so Gemma's gone out of
- 24:42Speaker 1: her way to just send what information she's got out
- 24:46Speaker 1: of last night's games. because I don't expect she's come
- 24:49Speaker 1: home from netball and gone to work today. So big
- 24:52Speaker 1: thanks to Gemma. So let me explain. I'm sure you'll
- 24:55Speaker 1: get the hang of it. What we do on the
- 24:58Speaker 1: netball scores, we give out the team, we give out
- 25:01Speaker 1: the score, and then we give out the star player
- 25:04Speaker 1: of the team. Now, not all the star players are in,
- 25:07Speaker 1: because they've got to contact each individual team captain, if
- 25:10Speaker 1: you like, but I'll give you what I've got. So
- 25:13Speaker 1: these are the results from last night. Ashford Magic, 53.
- 25:18Speaker 1: No star player as of yet. They beat the Jets, 16.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Their star player was Nicky. The Black Widows, 17. No
- 25:27Speaker 1: star player yet. They lost to Resilience Diamonds. They lost 38-17.
- 25:36Speaker 1: The star players they obviously couldn't choose were Hayley and Georgia. Ice, 35. Sophie. Jaguars, 40. Norris, Storm, 8.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Sean and Woodpeckers, 61. Anna. Now, if you want to
- 25:55Speaker 1: know anything about the Folkestone, they've got their own Facebook page,
- 25:58Speaker 1: Folkestone Netball League. Just click on it and send the
- 26:03Speaker 1: admin people a message. Perhaps you might want to start
- 26:06Speaker 1: to think about a join. I always have a chuckle
- 26:10Speaker 1: when I say this. You could become a floater. Now,
- 26:13Speaker 1: a floater is a person that can't commit to a team,
- 26:17Speaker 1: but is always around and about. And if a team
- 26:21Speaker 1: is short, if they make themselves known before the game's
- 26:24Speaker 1: set off, they could possibly fill in the gaps. So
- 26:27Speaker 1: if you want to be a floater, then just float
- 26:29Speaker 1: along to Flokeston. Flokeston Netball League Facebook page. Right. So
- 26:36Speaker 1: what we've got left. Well, I'm going to get all
- 26:38Speaker 1: the sport in and then I'll waffle along at the
- 26:40Speaker 1: end because I think this is the last report. And
- 26:43Speaker 1: this is the hockey. So we start with the men.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Now the men's eight teams. Can you believe it? None
- 26:51Speaker 1: of them got beaten last week. None of them. It
- 26:54Speaker 1: was just the men's first team. They drew 1-1 with
- 26:58Speaker 1: City Ball. Which was a good result because they haven't
- 27:00Speaker 1: had the best of starts to the season. So the
- 27:03Speaker 1: men drew 1-1. The men's second team, they beat Sutton
- 27:08Speaker 1: Valance 9-2. The men's third team beat Gawcourt 5-4. The
- 27:14Speaker 1: men's fourth team, they beat Herne Bay 5-0. The men's
- 27:17Speaker 1: fifth team beat Kings Hill 7-1. The men's sixth team
- 27:21Speaker 1: beat Malden Russets 4-2. The men's seventh team beat Gillingham
- 27:26Speaker 1: Anchorians 4-3. And the men's eighth team, to top it
- 27:30Speaker 1: all off, beat Burn Ash 7-0. So what a fantastic
- 27:35Speaker 1: week for the men's. And I like working out a
- 27:38Speaker 1: few stats on these, you know. Now the goals for
- 27:41Speaker 1: the men's, they scored 42 and they only conceded 13.
- 27:46Speaker 1: So turning over the page to the women's first 11,
- 27:50Speaker 1: they're having a great season. They beat Guildford 3-1. That's
- 27:54Speaker 1: the first 11, yep. The women's second 11, they drew
- 27:58Speaker 1: with Blackheath, 1-0. The women's third, they drew 0-0 with
- 28:04Speaker 1: Tunbridge Wells. The women's fourth, they lost 1-0 to New
- 28:09Speaker 1: Becker Amiens. The women's fifth team lost 2-0 to Dartford.
- 28:15Speaker 1: The women's sixth team, they had a great win. They
- 28:18Speaker 1: beat Faversham 8-1. And the women's seventh team beat Dartford 3-0.
- 28:24Speaker 1: So their stats are goals for, 15 goals against. It
- 28:30Speaker 1: was only six. So this is overall... The goal scored
- 28:35Speaker 1: for the whole club, they scored 47 and only conceded 19. So,
- 28:41Speaker 1: what a great weekend that was. Right, OK, I want
- 28:44Speaker 1: to get this anthem. It's about time we had an
- 28:45Speaker 1: anthem in. This is three minutes of Bon Jovi. MUSIC
- 28:51Speaker 1: PLAYS Well, there you have it. This show has now
