- 0:07Speaker 1: folks down a high sports show right here on radio
- 0:10Speaker 1: Folks do one o five point nine FM. On today's show,
- 0:18Speaker 1: we have our local cricket scores, a report on Friday
- 0:25Speaker 1: nights Charing ten k. We have some netball scores. We've
- 0:35Speaker 1: got a report on the venues our park runners attended.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We've got news on an event called Endure twenty four.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We've got a preview of the cliff Top Challenge and
- 0:51Speaker 1: a few words about the Vitality T twenty blast cricket
- 0:54Speaker 1: match at Canterbury between Ken and Gloucester last night. Now
- 1:01Speaker 1: there'd be no sports show on Saturday as I'm a
- 1:05Speaker 1: deal comparing the cliff Top Challenge. Well. As for Adrian,
- 1:09Speaker 1: he's got the weakest of excuses, honestly, I mean I've
- 1:13Speaker 1: heard it's like having a note from your mum. I've
- 1:15Speaker 1: heard some excuses. But you know what, he's only getting married.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Why did you get married on Saturday? What can he
- 1:27Speaker 1: do it during the week? I ever were with Sam? Anyway,
- 1:35Speaker 1: we want to congratulate Adrian on Saturday. Him and Sam
- 1:39Speaker 1: have a fantastic day and the weather looks absolutely awesome
- 1:43Speaker 1: and so there's only one song to play for you.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Adrian and Sam. All the best for Saturday. And this
- 1:49Speaker 1: is a nice day for a white wedding.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Nasty, start again, nasty.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And that's for Adrian and Sam and their wedding will
- 2:30Speaker 1: be on Saturday and it's going to be a nice day.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Start again. What a great song to start the show.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And congratulate Asian and Sam. So hopefully I'll see you
- 2:41Speaker 1: there in the evening. That Adrian right now. Then let's
- 2:45Speaker 1: do some local cricket stuff. Folks them first eleven, we'll
- 2:49Speaker 1: start with them. Will they travel to Maystone to play
- 2:51Speaker 1: the Moat Cricket Club Last Saturday. Mote won the toss
- 2:55Speaker 1: and put Folks that into bat, who made a whopping
- 2:57Speaker 1: three hundred and twenty nine for six in their fifty overs.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Top scorer Rudra Dande making a one hundred and fifty
- 3:05Speaker 1: six Mover then bowled out for one hundred and four
- 3:08Speaker 1: and twenty four overs, so Folks then won the game
- 3:10Speaker 1: by two hundred and twenty five runs. This week there
- 3:13Speaker 1: are way too broad stairs. Hawkins were put into bat
- 3:17Speaker 1: by Canterbury thirty eleven and went on to make two
- 3:19Speaker 1: hundred and ninety for six in forty overs, top scorer
- 3:23Speaker 1: John Durant with ninety one. Hawkins then bowled their opponents
- 3:26Speaker 1: out for forty nine, Sean Carey taking four wickets for
- 3:29Speaker 1: twenty eight runs, thus winning the game by two hundred
- 3:32Speaker 1: and forty one runs. This week Hawkins are at home
- 3:36Speaker 1: to Willsborough. Iive won the toss and decided to bat
- 3:39Speaker 1: against the Way Cricket Club, making one hundred and seventy
- 3:42Speaker 1: four for eight. Why then made one hundred and seventy
- 3:45Speaker 1: eight for two, top scorer with Stuart Wise with eighty four,
- 3:49Speaker 1: So I I've lost the game by eight wickets. This Saturday,
- 3:52Speaker 1: Hive away to Deal Victoria and Barnes Close hive Green Now.
- 3:57Speaker 1: They were put into bat by Nelson Cricket Club and
- 4:00Speaker 1: made one hundred and seventy one for eight. They then
- 4:02Speaker 1: bowled out Nelson for one hundred and four James Rose
- 4:05Speaker 1: taking three wickets for fifteen runs, winning the match by
- 4:08Speaker 1: sixty seven runs. This week they're at home to Herne
- 4:11Speaker 1: Bay Tenteddon won the toss against Saltwood that decided to bat,
- 4:15Speaker 1: making one hundred and eighty five for nine. Salt managed
- 4:18Speaker 1: one hundred and forty four all out so I lost
- 4:20Speaker 1: the game by forty one runs. The Saturday Saltwood are
- 4:24Speaker 1: a way to whits the ball now in a low
- 4:27Speaker 1: scoring game but a very close game. Sipton Park were
- 4:30Speaker 1: put into bat by Addington but could only make eighty
- 4:33Speaker 1: four all out. Addington then made eighty five for nine wickets,
- 4:38Speaker 1: winning the match by just one wicket, so that must
- 4:40Speaker 1: have been a bit of a tense last over. This week,
- 4:43Speaker 1: the Sibs are away to King zeal second eleven and
- 4:46Speaker 1: as we said, Saturday's wather looks really dry and sunny
- 4:49Speaker 1: and the temperatures around twenty two degrees, so it looks
- 4:52Speaker 1: like it's going to be a good day for cricket.
- 4:55Speaker 1: So I've got some more cricket news for you later
- 4:57Speaker 1: on in the show, because me and missus Ferrett even
- 4:59Speaker 1: off to Canterbury yesterday evening to watch ken Spitfires play Gloucester,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and I'll tell you about that later. In the meantime,
- 5:08Speaker 1: We've got a couple of summary beautiful day type songs
- 5:12Speaker 1: and this is exactly that. This is you two and
- 5:15Speaker 1: beautiful day boys of summer. There, Don Henley, there was
- 5:39Speaker 1: a couple of summer songs there that was you two
- 5:41Speaker 1: in a beautiful day and Don Henley there. I think
- 5:45Speaker 1: we should play as many summer songs as we can
- 5:47Speaker 1: because this weekend it's going to be hot, hot, hot, hot,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and an amazing It wasn't so long ago that they
- 5:53Speaker 1: were giving us a weather warning because of the storms
- 5:56Speaker 1: and the winds, and now they're giving us a weather
- 5:58Speaker 1: warning because it's going to be too hot. What is
- 6:01Speaker 1: this weather coming to? Who should we blame?
- 6:03Speaker 2: What?
- 6:03Speaker 1: You thackon the Russians? Yeah, it's got to just blame
- 6:06Speaker 1: the Russians. Anyway. It's going to be a hot weekend,
- 6:09Speaker 1: so let's just be careful. Put out that sun cream
- 6:13Speaker 1: and take plenty of fluids on board, and then just
- 6:17Speaker 1: look after yourself. Really, if you're getting too hot, go indoors. Right.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So I'm going to tell you now about the charing
- 6:24Speaker 1: ten K. I was on the last I was on
- 6:26Speaker 1: the mic last Friday evening at the charing ten K,
- 6:30Speaker 1: where two hundred and sixty four runners across the finish line.
- 6:33Speaker 1: First runner home was James Wisby for Deal tri Club
- 6:36Speaker 1: in thirty six minutes sixteen seconds. First Lady runner home
- 6:40Speaker 1: was Hayley MPIT from FTC, which stands for a fit together.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Canny Cross. Now I've said this a few times if
- 6:46Speaker 1: you don't know what canny cross is. Basically it's if
- 6:50Speaker 1: you ever go to a canny cross meeting, you will
- 6:52Speaker 1: hear it from half a mile away because the runners
- 6:55Speaker 1: it's normally on a trail or in a forest. They
- 6:57Speaker 1: run with the dog, their dog by lead to their
- 7:01Speaker 1: waist and so. And when they're all starting together, what
- 7:05Speaker 1: a noise. They're all barking for England. But it is
- 7:07Speaker 1: good fun anyway. The first runner home for the Folkston
- 7:11Speaker 1: Club was a Nick Steel in fourth place, where we
- 7:13Speaker 1: also picked up a prize for the first VET forty.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Taubn Jessen was the first in his age category at
- 7:19Speaker 1: the VET sixty and Rebecca Powne. Well done to you, Rebecca.
- 7:23Speaker 1: She was the third lady home overall. Now, if you
- 7:27Speaker 1: cast your mind back to last Friday, it was a warm,
- 7:29Speaker 1: sultry evening and there was a weather warning out. There
- 7:33Speaker 1: was one hundreds of these little black bugs about, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and you know the ones where if you wear it
- 7:39Speaker 1: like a bright colored shirt, they're straight on you. Well
- 7:42Speaker 1: that's what I had. I had a sort of fluorescent
- 7:43Speaker 1: type yellow shirt and I was covered in them. Well,
- 7:47Speaker 1: we had two short, sharp down paws and everybody thought, okay,
- 7:50Speaker 1: this is it. Here comes to the storm, but they
- 7:53Speaker 1: passed on over. However, coming home heading south down the
- 7:56Speaker 1: age twenty and twenty, as we were driving, we could
- 7:59Speaker 1: see the light in the distance over folks and putting
- 8:02Speaker 1: on a light show for us. It was like lighting
- 8:04Speaker 1: up the channel now and the race. Special mention must
- 8:09Speaker 1: go to Penny Southern, who was the sole representative of
- 8:12Speaker 1: the South Kent Harriers. She came home listened to this.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Three seconds outside of one hour, so frustrating. One hour
- 8:19Speaker 1: and three seconds. And if you are a runner and
- 8:22Speaker 1: you set yourself a target of an hour or fifty
- 8:26Speaker 1: minutes or forty five minutes and you come three seconds
- 8:30Speaker 1: outside of that type, that's so frustrating. You think I
- 8:34Speaker 1: should have run three seconds faster at the start. Anyway,
- 8:37Speaker 1: the race was hosted by Ashford Striders in conjunction with
- 8:41Speaker 1: nice work.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Now.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I mean there was good because there was a definite
- 8:44Speaker 1: Friday evening feeling about the race, with the great atmosphere,
- 8:48Speaker 1: lots of clubs in good mood and a nice touch
- 8:51Speaker 1: by the Striders was the cake stall. Now, runners from
- 8:54Speaker 1: the Striders club either made or bought cakes along, which
- 8:57Speaker 1: were then sold for a donation, the money going into
- 9:00Speaker 1: Pilgrim's hospices. So nice touch there, and well done to
- 9:03Speaker 1: the ashtrastriders all wall down to everybody. They're the marshals,
- 9:06Speaker 1: the runners, the volunteers, the tail walkers making an awesome evening.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, hang on, did he forgot? There was also
- 9:14Speaker 1: a children's race and I did ask some of the
- 9:17Speaker 1: runners if they'd just come over and support the children,
- 9:20Speaker 1: and loads of them came over and it must have
- 9:22Speaker 1: made them feel The children feel really great from the
- 9:25Speaker 1: first one to the last one. And so we're down
- 9:27Speaker 1: to you senior runners for joining the parents in cheering
- 9:31Speaker 1: the kids in. Okay, a bit of music now from
- 9:34Speaker 1: nineteen ninety five. This is supergrass? All what supergrass? Nineteen
- 10:08Speaker 1: ninety five? All right, it's got a bit of a
- 10:13Speaker 1: summer fiel to it, isn't it. I like that one
- 10:16Speaker 1: right now? Then time for a roundup of park run
- 10:19Speaker 1: venues that our local athletes attended last Saturday. And this
- 10:23Speaker 1: is beginning to become a bit of a regular feature
- 10:26Speaker 1: on the Sport Show. And I do need to thank
- 10:30Speaker 1: all the correspondents from the Folks and Running and Athletics
- 10:32Speaker 1: Club because I pick up the information off of their
- 10:35Speaker 1: website to be honest, and it tells me where some
- 10:39Speaker 1: of the runners have been over the weekend. But the
- 10:42Speaker 1: good thing I like about it is is did I
- 10:46Speaker 1: try to find out more about the actual park runs
- 10:49Speaker 1: and what part of the country they're in and what
- 10:52Speaker 1: the course is like? So anyway I have a little
- 10:54Speaker 1: listen to this. Visits were made, but yeah, visits were
- 10:57Speaker 1: made to the nearby ones as usual. Further Afield found
- 11:01Speaker 1: runners at Hadley Country Park in Essex, now Hadley Country Park.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I know this for a fact because I've compared a
- 11:07Speaker 1: few races there. It's the former Olympic mountain bike course,
- 11:10Speaker 1: so it believed me. It is very hilly and on
- 11:15Speaker 1: a cold day that when whips right across the top
- 11:18Speaker 1: of the hill there off the River Thames. But yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 1: what a great venue. Now a Newbury was another course visited.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Their start line is on the infamous the Greenham Common
- 11:28Speaker 1: Old Runway. Remember that was in the news years ago
- 11:31Speaker 1: every day it was in the news Greenham Common. Other
- 11:34Speaker 1: venues were Clear Park Run in Hayward's Heath, which is
- 11:37Speaker 1: in West Sussex, Reigate Priory Park Run which is in Surrey,
- 11:42Speaker 1: the Cyclo Park Run which is in Gravesend, but it's
- 11:45Speaker 1: not actually run on the Cyclo Park course, it's on
- 11:48Speaker 1: a tarmac path nearby. And finally our athletes were out
- 11:52Speaker 1: at seven Fields Park Run, which is in Swindon. Now,
- 11:56Speaker 1: if you remember a couple of weeks ago I told
- 11:58Speaker 1: you about Marshall Smith from for Day, see he came
- 12:01Speaker 1: to the Folkstone Park Run and was just one second
- 12:04Speaker 1: outside that course record when he came back last Saturday
- 12:07Speaker 1: and beat Charlie Bridgley's course records in August twenty twenty
- 12:11Speaker 1: three by six seconds in a time of fifteen minutes
- 12:14Speaker 1: and two seconds. So well done to you, Marshall. Now
- 12:18Speaker 1: then Endure twenty four. Have you ever heard of it? Well,
- 12:22Speaker 1: it's an ultra run with a difference. It starts at
- 12:24Speaker 1: twelve o'clock on midday on a Saturday and finishes at
- 12:27Speaker 1: twelve o'clock midday the following day on a Sunday, hence
- 12:31Speaker 1: Endure twenty four. Now, the course in Reddin Is is
- 12:35Speaker 1: an eight k sorry eight k trail loop and the
- 12:38Speaker 1: idea is to run as far as you can in
- 12:40Speaker 1: twenty four hours eight kilometers by the way is around
- 12:44Speaker 1: five miles. Two brave runners from South Kent Harriers gave
- 12:47Speaker 1: it a go. Craig Hoveman managed seventy miles along the
- 12:51Speaker 1: way and he raised over six hundred pound for Tommy's
- 12:55Speaker 1: the Pregnancy charity. And Jared Dobson runs sixty miles and
- 12:59Speaker 1: he rode two hundred pound for McMillan Cancer Support. So
- 13:04Speaker 1: massive congratulations that go to Craig and Chart there who
- 13:07Speaker 1: put themselves through the challenge to raise money for charity.
- 13:10Speaker 1: That's awesome. Now you don't have to enter as a
- 13:14Speaker 1: solo runner. You can enter as a team with up
- 13:17Speaker 1: to twelve people. Now that seemed to be the most
- 13:20Speaker 1: popular thing to do, consequently not spending so much time
- 13:23Speaker 1: on the track. Now, when I looked at the results,
- 13:26Speaker 1: there were so many teams there and it must have
- 13:29Speaker 1: had I hope this has been like a rock festival
- 13:33Speaker 1: like Glastonbury. It must have been tens all over the
- 13:34Speaker 1: place because they obviously stayed the night anyway, So I
- 13:38Speaker 1: mean you run an hour and then eleven hours off
- 13:41Speaker 1: of there's twelve of you in the team. How good
- 13:43Speaker 1: is that? Then you've got to await eleven hours you
- 13:45Speaker 1: run your hour and then let your teammates do all
- 13:48Speaker 1: the work. Now studying the results, a gentleman called Dean
- 13:52Speaker 1: Lenihan runs solo for twenty four hours. His first five
- 13:56Speaker 1: mile lap took him listen to this thirty six minutes
- 14:00Speaker 1: twenty six seconds, and his slowest lap, which was his
- 14:03Speaker 1: last lap, Listen to this, it took one hour, thirty
- 14:06Speaker 1: six minutes and twenty six seconds, one hour slower to
- 14:10Speaker 1: the second the difference between the first lap and the
- 14:13Speaker 1: last lap. And don't blame him after being twenty four
- 14:17Speaker 1: hours on your feet, He actually ran twenty seven laps
- 14:21Speaker 1: which covered the distance of one hundred and thirty five miles. Now,
- 14:24Speaker 1: running solo is the toughest thing to do, which is
- 14:27Speaker 1: why the courage of Craig and Jared definitely need applaud in.
- 14:31Speaker 1: So we're unto you fellas now only found out about
- 14:34Speaker 1: this one this morning. As the part a former guest
- 14:36Speaker 1: of the show in South Kent Harrier Amy Stimpson was
- 14:39Speaker 1: part of an eight member team called the Sempire Juggalos.
- 14:43Speaker 1: The other seven members were Darren Mills and Allie Knight
- 14:46Speaker 1: For also from the South Kent Harriers, Alicia Lilly Kelly Kirby,
- 14:50Speaker 1: Jody Gavin and Louise Batton, all Dover Road runners and
- 14:54Speaker 1: not forgetting Felicity Barmfield. They on his twenty one laps
- 14:58Speaker 1: and a total of one hundred and five I was
- 15:00Speaker 1: between them now. It must have been a weird evening
- 15:02Speaker 1: through the night as they decided to have a break
- 15:04Speaker 1: to dry off and get a bit sleep, which is
- 15:07Speaker 1: the beauty of Endure twenty four. You do what you
- 15:10Speaker 1: can now. I asked Amy for a few phrases to
- 15:14Speaker 1: sum it all up, and she told me pouring rain,
- 15:17Speaker 1: leaky tents, friends made for life. Best weekend of the year.
- 15:23Speaker 1: So good, they're ready to sign out for a fourth
- 15:25Speaker 1: year and go back and do it all over again.
- 15:26Speaker 1: So Amy, thanks for all that information and your report,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and we'll see you at the Dover Park Run sometime now.
- 15:34Speaker 1: This song is for in the last few months. I
- 15:37Speaker 1: suppose I've been dedicating songs to a famous artist who
- 15:40Speaker 1: have sadly passed away, but this one is dedicated to
- 15:43Speaker 1: a man who celebrated his eighty third birthday. I do
- 15:46Speaker 1: believe it was yesterday. As a Paul McCartney, I mean, well,
- 15:50Speaker 1: a legend, there's no other word for it. For this
- 15:53Speaker 1: song writing right back to the sixties with the Beatles.
- 15:55Speaker 1: So let's have a little listen to Paul McCartney. This
- 15:58Speaker 1: is a this is a James Bond theme. The I mean,
- 16:02Speaker 1: they do make some great songs as James Bond themes
- 16:04Speaker 1: that you know from the films. It's been a bit
- 16:07Speaker 1: quiet on the James Bond front, isn't it. Perhaps they've
- 16:10Speaker 1: made it as many films as he've written books. So anyway,
- 16:12Speaker 1: let's have a little listen to Live and Let Die.
- 16:16Speaker 2: When you are your heart what an open book used
- 16:25Speaker 2: to say, Jennifer Lopez, my love docast thing.
- 16:41Speaker 1: There you go, she said it for you. Love don't
- 16:43Speaker 1: cost the thing, right. So we've got some netball news.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Now I've got some scores. Now you know the drill.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I named the team, name the score, and name the
- 16:53Speaker 1: star player. So here we go. We've got a Scorpion's
- 16:56Speaker 1: twenty five, an Elis Tiger's thirty eight, Danny Panther's twenty eight,
- 17:02Speaker 1: Sam would pick us thirty eight, Nat Sting Rays fifteen,
- 17:07Speaker 1: Amy Ice fifty six, erin Jets thirty nine, Abby and
- 17:14Speaker 1: Black Widows fourteen, and the star player will shared between
- 17:18Speaker 1: Sophia and Amanda, so big thanks to Daniel Black there
- 17:21Speaker 1: for those scores. And if you want to know any
- 17:24Speaker 1: more about the folks of Netball League, they have got
- 17:26Speaker 1: a Facebook page. Just track them down and make contact
- 17:29Speaker 1: there and you might be listening in and want to
- 17:32Speaker 1: start netballs down the Three Heels. The league games on
- 17:35Speaker 1: a Wednesday night and they have two courts going. But
- 17:39Speaker 1: just check out Folkston Netball League on your Facebook page. Okay,
- 17:45Speaker 1: so now it's time to have a little chat about
- 17:47Speaker 1: the cliff Top Challenge. Now I'm on the mic down
- 17:50Speaker 1: there on Saturday in Deal and this is a unique race,
- 17:54Speaker 1: to be honest. There's several distances and unfortunately all thees
- 18:00Speaker 1: are sold out and so it's it's a shame, but
- 18:04Speaker 1: you can still join in. I'll tell you about that
- 18:05Speaker 1: in a minute. There's several distances and if you are
- 18:09Speaker 1: an ultra runner and you don't become an ultra runner overnight,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you've been training and putting the mileagein, so you won't
- 18:15Speaker 1: be doft enough if you've only run around the block
- 18:17Speaker 1: to try an ultra because the ultra distance is fifty
- 18:20Speaker 1: five miles starting right out near Hastings. They start at
- 18:23Speaker 1: two o'clock in the morning and run all the way
- 18:27Speaker 1: to deal. Runners can then start out a thirty six
- 18:30Speaker 1: mile point and then there's a twenty six point two
- 18:33Speaker 1: mile marathon point and then there starts at fifteen, ten
- 18:37Speaker 1: and five miles, all ended up on the Warmer Green
- 18:40Speaker 1: bandstand for a grand finish. Now, I think that the
- 18:45Speaker 1: five mile the five miler is the most favorite because
- 18:49Speaker 1: that means that the children is doable for some fit children.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Their parents will know. But to see the children coming
- 18:56Speaker 1: in after running, and it's a good thing that it's
- 18:59Speaker 1: all one wave, like you don't have to go round
- 19:01Speaker 1: to the track or do loops. It's five miles one way.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And there's a family called the Rembridges. They've been doing
- 19:09Speaker 1: this for years. They have raised absolutely thousands of pounds
- 19:13Speaker 1: for breast cancer now and when they come in the
- 19:15Speaker 1: place erupts. They really do. Now this event is in
- 19:19Speaker 1: its eleventh year, having raised a whop in two hundred
- 19:23Speaker 1: thousand pounds in the past ten years for breast cancer
- 19:26Speaker 1: Now under the guidance of cancer survivor Chantelle Rashbrook, her
- 19:30Speaker 1: husband Phil, all the members of her family and I mean,
- 19:34Speaker 1: it really is a spectacular event. So you can pop
- 19:37Speaker 1: down there to the finish line and join in the fun.
- 19:40Speaker 1: The runners are expected back from around twelve thirty onwards
- 19:44Speaker 1: and there's music live music on the bandstand from around
- 19:46Speaker 1: two o'clock until eight pm, all the local musicians giving
- 19:50Speaker 1: up their time. Last year we had rain. It was
- 19:52Speaker 1: awful what we had to pour in rain. It was
- 19:54Speaker 1: nice for the runners, but it looks good this year.
- 19:56Speaker 1: It's going to be sunny, not too good for the runners,
- 19:58Speaker 1: but great party weather. Just come along. There's vendors there
- 20:05Speaker 1: selling drinks, selling burgers and setting all sorts of stuff.
- 20:09Speaker 1: If you want to come along prepared, I don't know,
- 20:11Speaker 1: bring your own chair, have a little sit down, bring
- 20:13Speaker 1: a picnic mat, bring all the family along. The town
- 20:17Speaker 1: of Deal do really push the boat out for this one,
- 20:19Speaker 1: I've got to say. And they've been supporting Chantelle and
- 20:22Speaker 1: Phil for all these years and they just get behind her.
- 20:25Speaker 1: She is loved by everybody in the town. It's a
- 20:28Speaker 1: brave story. I remember she ran Race for Life many
- 20:31Speaker 1: years ago, raising money for somebody else that had breast cancer. Sadly,
- 20:36Speaker 1: she contracted breast cancer herself. Then she got secondary breast cancer,
- 20:41Speaker 1: but she bounced back. She has made so much money,
- 20:44Speaker 1: so many friends with the charity along the way, So
- 20:47Speaker 1: the only way to do it is to go along
- 20:49Speaker 1: and support her and if you like, if you've got
- 20:51Speaker 1: a few speedball then make a little donation. Now this
- 20:56Speaker 1: song was actually in the playlist today. I was at
- 20:59Speaker 1: the Charing and went into the pub afterwards with some
- 21:03Speaker 1: of the runners from the Folks and Running Club, and
- 21:06Speaker 1: I was speaking to Gary Brazier and we were talking
- 21:10Speaker 1: about music and stuff, and he and Marie, his wife,
- 21:15Speaker 1: who both former guests of the show, went up to
- 21:18Speaker 1: Liverpool to see this next artist. He said it was
- 21:21Speaker 1: a box that he had to tick and he wasn't disappointed.
- 21:25Speaker 1: There was a guest appearance of Birthday Boy Paul McCartney
- 21:29Speaker 1: and he did a couple of songs, but Gary said
- 21:34Speaker 1: he was just blown away by the performance of this
- 21:36Speaker 1: gentleman singing the streets of Philadelphia. Let's have I listened
- 21:40Speaker 1: to Bruce Springsteen. It's bruised and battered. I couldn't do
- 22:03Speaker 1: what I feeled.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I was unrecognized.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Bruce Springsteen now one of his quieter songs, if you like.
- 22:21Speaker 1: He's normally known for dragging people up on stage and
- 22:23Speaker 1: joining him with a dance. But so they don't hear
- 22:25Speaker 1: that one very often, so that's well worth of playing. Okay, well,
- 22:28Speaker 1: we're just going to go into another song, I think
- 22:30Speaker 1: because this is cropped up in the playlist as well,
- 22:32Speaker 1: another one that I love. I think they only made
- 22:34Speaker 1: two songs that really stick in your mind. This is
- 22:38Speaker 1: one of them. This is Asa bass and the sign
- 23:07Speaker 1: as a base sort of sign. Love it? Okay, Now,
- 23:16Speaker 1: yesterday evening myself and missus Ferrett we had a pleasant
- 23:19Speaker 1: time at the Canterbury Cricket Ground watching the Kent Spitfires
- 23:23Speaker 1: playing against the Gloucester shere in the T twenty cricket
- 23:27Speaker 1: The weather was perfect. It was I don't know, twenty
- 23:29Speaker 1: twenty five degrees, sunny, no cloud. They'll tell you what.
- 23:33Speaker 1: It's only went one thing that's spoilt the whole evening.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Kent lost by seven wickets. Kent batted first and made
- 23:39Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty seven for nine. They've seen to
- 23:42Speaker 1: make hard work for you know. I've thought, you know,
- 23:45Speaker 1: I'm sure it wasn't enough and I was right. Gloucester
- 23:48Speaker 1: hit one hundred and sixty for three. I mean that
- 23:50Speaker 1: their openers were really knocking the ball about all over
- 23:53Speaker 1: the place and they did it with two overs to spare.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Now we've been a couple of times and it really
- 23:58Speaker 1: is a lively evening round the ground if you've never
- 24:00Speaker 1: been there before. There's bars, there's caterers, salims or of
- 24:04Speaker 1: food from Thailand, you know, Greece, even fish and chips.
- 24:10Speaker 1: There's pyrotechnic flames burst into life and music plays every
- 24:14Speaker 1: time something exciting happens, like a four or a six.
- 24:18Speaker 1: There's plenty of crowd interaction and there was a very
- 24:21Speaker 1: good I don't know her name, as she was very
- 24:23Speaker 1: good with female mc and so if you've never been
- 24:26Speaker 1: there before, it's well worth a visit. I mean we
- 24:30Speaker 1: were sitting, if you like, alongside the wicket where we
- 24:35Speaker 1: could see, not of bird's eye view or anything, but
- 24:41Speaker 1: I will say that if you know the ground, we
- 24:44Speaker 1: were over the side where there's a set of apartments,
- 24:46Speaker 1: and what a fantastic view. They all come out. There's
- 24:49Speaker 1: not in the ground is there's a big fence in
- 24:51Speaker 1: the way and they've got their own balconies. And however,
- 24:55Speaker 1: one batter as they're called, they're not called batsmen or
- 24:58Speaker 1: bats women anymore, called batters. He hears six and the
- 25:02Speaker 1: ball landed in the grounds of the apartments and the
- 25:04Speaker 1: tea what they look for it and it was never
- 25:06Speaker 1: to be seen again. Now, in case you're wondering what
- 25:10Speaker 1: T twenty is, it's basically a fast moving twenty over
- 25:13Speaker 1: game where the players are really going for it. The
- 25:16Speaker 1: T twenty League is split into two groups, North and South,
- 25:20Speaker 1: and Kent are currently sixth out of nine in the
- 25:22Speaker 1: South group. There's playoffs at the end of the season
- 25:25Speaker 1: between the North and South. The top clubs go to
- 25:28Speaker 1: the finals day at Edgeburston. So what can I say?
- 25:32Speaker 1: It really was a perfect evening, you know, it was
- 25:34Speaker 1: a lovely summer, typical cricket evening. It just the sound
- 25:39Speaker 1: of leaver on Willow, sound of music, the taste of
- 25:43Speaker 1: beer and chips lovely now the highlight of the evening.
- 25:47Speaker 1: And it wasn't too far away from us when a
- 25:49Speaker 1: batter he hears six. It went over the boundary and
- 25:52Speaker 1: it was caught by a spectator and it was caught
- 25:54Speaker 1: on camera as well, and he won himself the Fan
- 25:57Speaker 1: of the match. The cameras kept replaying this catch. You know,
- 26:01Speaker 1: it was just just perfect. He was just standing there,
- 26:04Speaker 1: put his arm up, two hands bang called the ball
- 26:07Speaker 1: and for that little out of you know, instant recognition,
- 26:13Speaker 1: he gained two Pick two tickets to the final of
- 26:16Speaker 1: the T twenty match at Edgeburston. Right, so we're going
- 26:21Speaker 1: to play a little song now from old Garbage that
- 26:25Speaker 1: reminds me I must put the bins out today. This
- 26:28Speaker 1: is garbage and stupid girl. But let's garbage there, stupid girl. Okay,
- 26:56Speaker 1: let's about it for this week. We've just got to
- 27:00Speaker 1: say that there's no sports show on Saturday because I
- 27:03Speaker 1: will be at the cliff Top Challenge and Ady's getting married.
- 27:07Speaker 1: What ache and to getting married on Saturday when he
- 27:09Speaker 1: should be doing a show. Okay, So just to say
- 27:12Speaker 1: that if you want to come on the show then
- 27:14Speaker 1: please just get in touch. Come get in touch, and
- 27:19Speaker 1: if you want to be a guest then we'd love
- 27:21Speaker 1: to have you point nine online at Radio Folkston dot
- 27:27Speaker 1: com and on your smart speaker.
