- 2:00Speaker 1: A little easier for a lot of folks to wake
- 2:02Speaker 1: up today. Little more pep in the step, a little
- 2:07Speaker 1: more optimism. It's funny what one play can do, what
- 2:12Speaker 1: nineteen seconds can do. That's college football. I think Aggie
- 2:17Speaker 1: fans have been on the other side quite a bit
- 2:20Speaker 1: for a while, and we'll see it being on this
- 2:23Speaker 1: side makes a big difference coming up.
- 2:26Speaker 7: Well, so you touched on a chip. I had a
- 2:28Speaker 7: laugh because sometimes you're so close to it. I always
- 2:32Speaker 7: say you got to step back. And some guy emailed me, goes, Robert,
- 2:35Speaker 7: is that right? One team lose, they're ranked eight, they
- 2:38Speaker 7: drop sixteen spots by point. The other team wins and
- 2:41Speaker 7: they go up fourteen spots. I said, well, you know,
- 2:44Speaker 7: and I laughed, And you think about one play, as
- 2:46Speaker 7: you mentioned one deal, things are reversed. But as you mentioned,
- 2:50Speaker 7: A and M hasn't been on this side for a while.
- 2:52Speaker 7: They got a whole week to adjust to.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It, which I think is perfectly.
- 2:56Speaker 6: I think it was.
- 2:57Speaker 7: Great because anybody that watch I gave they have so
- 3:00Speaker 7: much to work on. Uh, it's unreal. But they won
- 3:03Speaker 7: the game.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Well, that's what we talked about last week, is like,
- 3:06Speaker 2: you know, they hadn't had that.
- 3:08Speaker 6: They haven't.
- 3:09Speaker 1: They don't.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You don't get an opportunity to go on the road
- 3:12Speaker 2: against the nationally ranked team in a non comfort that
- 3:14Speaker 2: often now you do in the SEC. But we we
- 3:17Speaker 2: figured it out. It would have been since nineteen seventy nine
- 3:20Speaker 2: since they had won a game. Now, there was fifteen
- 3:22Speaker 2: years in between those stretches, so you don't get this
- 3:25Speaker 2: opportunity and A and M has not done that in
- 3:29Speaker 2: forty five years, and so it yeah, it comes down to,
- 3:31Speaker 2: you know, the poor kid with A doesn't handle the snap.
- 3:34Speaker 1: But wait a minute, are you saying there was that
- 3:37Speaker 1: guy that didn't handle the snap? Because I didn't see
- 3:39Speaker 1: anything about that. On NBC Saturday nights.
- 3:42Speaker 6: They played it over and over again.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah, the Notre Dame network.
- 3:49Speaker 6: To dry, you know, But I mean there are so
- 3:52Speaker 6: many plays on that. You know, I go back. I
- 3:54Speaker 6: watched that game again last.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Night, and I think to play the game for an
- 3:59Speaker 2: m was very early in the game. I mean, you
- 4:02Speaker 2: could talk about, yeah, that the touchdown catch. I heard
- 4:05Speaker 2: the kid, you know it's talking about. By the way,
- 4:07Speaker 2: that's not the only kid who caught one. Matt Bumgardner
- 4:10Speaker 2: caught one against texted all that.
- 4:12Speaker 1: That's one of that. That was one of the catches
- 4:14Speaker 1: I was thinking of.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he said he swear he couldn't see that
- 4:18Speaker 2: in his son. But uh, that Mario Craver touchdown catch.
- 4:23Speaker 2: There was three guys right there that should have tackled
- 4:25Speaker 2: him three guys and that's right after the block punt.
- 4:28Speaker 2: A and M could have that game could have so
- 4:31Speaker 2: easily gotten.
- 4:32Speaker 6: Away from it. We've seen it a thousand times.
- 4:34Speaker 2: We saw it, you know last year when Auburn got
- 4:36Speaker 2: off to that kind of start, and it's like, you know,
- 4:40Speaker 2: that is such a clutch play, and I'm I think
- 4:42Speaker 2: that those two guys have a chance. It's early in
- 4:45Speaker 2: the season, but the best combination receivers in Texas and
- 4:48Speaker 2: m history to have two of those guys like that
- 4:50Speaker 2: that can go get it. And M's had one from
- 4:53Speaker 2: time to time, and they've had some good receivers to
- 4:55Speaker 2: go along with the one I'm thinking about Mike Evans
- 4:58Speaker 2: and that group.
- 4:58Speaker 6: You know, that's good receivers there, but two guys like that,
- 5:02Speaker 6: I mean, there's they're spectacular.
- 5:04Speaker 7: The play of the game for me was early when
- 5:07Speaker 7: Notre Dame's up seven zher they had the ball third
- 5:10Speaker 7: and one near midfield. They run their stud and he
- 5:14Speaker 7: gets stopped for five yard loss. So instead of picking
- 5:16Speaker 7: up a first down, they have to punt, and I
- 5:18Speaker 7: felt Notre Dame goes down scores there at least a
- 5:21Speaker 7: field golf, not more they're up by two scores early.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I feel a great points because a M's defense is
- 5:27Speaker 2: not that good, right, but they made some plays.
- 5:30Speaker 6: They stopped them on third down, they stopped them on
- 5:32Speaker 6: fourth down.
- 5:33Speaker 2: They got Scooby Williams got the big interception, and we
- 5:36Speaker 2: talked about that last week. Have they had not gotten
- 5:38Speaker 2: those those takeaways? And so, yeah, they're not good and
- 5:43Speaker 2: they're not gonna, you know, hold people scoreless by any means,
- 5:47Speaker 2: but they did make some plays and they made him
- 5:50Speaker 2: a key moments.
- 5:50Speaker 7: Without a doubt. They're third don stops, they're fourth down stops.
- 5:53Speaker 7: And I have to laugh because you know, when Alex
- 5:55Speaker 7: Miller and not driving back for like five hours until
- 5:57Speaker 7: he get on a plane, you talk about a lot
- 5:59Speaker 7: of things. I kind of have to laugh that. You know,
- 6:02Speaker 7: Elko is such a good defensive coordinator and he'll take
- 6:05Speaker 7: what he has and use He's putting the rush in
- 6:09Speaker 7: Cassius holl Back sometimes in plays the defense. And what
- 6:13Speaker 7: I laugh about this is Elko gets praised for being
- 6:17Speaker 7: a genius, but when DJ Girkin wanted to do it,
- 6:20Speaker 7: they wanted to throw him out of the community.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But once again, Elko got results. He won the game.
- 6:26Speaker 6: There was a time when Fran played a one ten
- 6:28Speaker 6: against that.
- 6:30Speaker 7: Is Elko texts what he has. I don't think he's
- 6:33Speaker 7: got enough weapons right now on defense, but he won
- 6:36Speaker 7: with them.
- 6:36Speaker 2: But man, you know what I loved because I wanted
- 6:39Speaker 2: to throw a chair so many times and I'm watching
- 6:41Speaker 2: a football.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I love the fact that he threw the chair.
- 6:44Speaker 6: You know, it's like, come on, yeah, God, wake you
- 6:47Speaker 6: guys up.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Well, I thought the key key play of the game
- 6:51Speaker 1: was or Stromp tackling the guy on the kickoff return
- 6:54Speaker 1: on Bussy.
- 6:56Speaker 7: That was a good takedown. It wasn't it well, because
- 7:00Speaker 7: they score, they get the ball back three minutes left.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Man, do you think that A and M's defense would
- 7:05Speaker 1: have stopped that situation hindsight, You're right, it was probably. Man,
- 7:10Speaker 1: it had to work out, and it's once now when
- 7:13Speaker 1: it happened, you're going off. But I said, in retrospect,
- 7:17Speaker 1: retrospect perfect when your destiny to win, Yes, fine, it
- 7:20Speaker 1: ain't even hasn't found ways to win? Yeah, or had
- 7:24Speaker 1: that kind of play go against? And then when you
- 7:26Speaker 1: look back in hindsight, like I said, hey, perfect timing.
- 7:31Speaker 2: You know, and Marcel Ree was really good. He threw
- 7:34Speaker 2: for what three hundred and sixty yards? He missed some
- 7:37Speaker 2: really open.
- 7:37Speaker 7: He was really bad.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Sometimes, Man, you gonna thrown for five hundred he could have.
- 7:42Speaker 6: That's the thing is like.
- 7:42Speaker 2: When I was watching that game last night again, I
- 7:44Speaker 2: was like, man, that guy was so open.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Okay, I say this, And I know from last year
- 7:52Speaker 1: that Elko went crazy about the Pro Football Focus grades,
- 7:56Speaker 1: although now A and.
- 7:57Speaker 7: M is using Bimbo. Really wasn't Jimbo's wanted like that, but.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Elko mentioned it last year in passing. But now I've
- 8:04Speaker 1: noticed A and M is putting that in their releases.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You know, if it's good good This is from today.
- 8:10Speaker 1: By the way, I agree with you about Marcel right
- 8:13Speaker 1: because he won the game. But according to Pro Football Focus,
- 8:18Speaker 1: his offensive grade of fifty point four was the worst
- 8:23Speaker 1: among A and M players who had fifteen plus snaps
- 8:27Speaker 1: or more, with a forty eight point one passing grade.
- 8:31Speaker 1: They gave him two quote big time throws, but four
- 8:36Speaker 1: turnover worthy plays and a forty eight point six percent
- 8:42Speaker 1: adjusted completion three for twelve for forty five yards in
- 8:46Speaker 1: a TV went under pressure two for nine for seventy
- 8:50Speaker 1: six yards, with an I int on passes of twenty
- 8:53Speaker 1: yards or more through three games, fifty eight point six percent.
- 8:58Speaker 1: But listen, this is what I like. And they're looking
- 9:01Speaker 1: at this as a negative nine TDS with one interception.
- 9:05Speaker 1: That's the that's the the stat I'm focusing on thirty
- 9:10Speaker 1: first in passing efficiency and thirty eighth nationally and quarterback rating.
- 9:16Speaker 1: But you know what, that doesn't master he's three and
- 9:20Speaker 1: oh well, and he's and he made the place to
- 9:23Speaker 1: win the game the last drive.
- 9:25Speaker 2: He was so composed and I just like, I really
- 9:28Speaker 2: really his offensive line wasn't composed.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Oh my my gosh.
- 9:33Speaker 6: That there are so many penalties.
- 9:37Speaker 1: There's just been a flag on Cronover just thrown here.
- 9:40Speaker 6: Yes, he's off side again.
- 9:43Speaker 7: When I get in.
- 9:45Speaker 2: But you know what I mean, Marcel is seventeen and
- 9:47Speaker 2: thirty seven and again that's not even fifty percent, and
- 9:50Speaker 2: so you expect him to be better as but I
- 9:53Speaker 2: wouldn't trade him for it.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Now, I will tell you something else. He's playing against
- 9:57Speaker 1: two All American cornerbacks as well. Yes, right now, they
- 10:00Speaker 1: gave well, they gave up big play nowhere. But I
- 10:05Speaker 1: thought I thought, you know, Elko was going to answer
- 10:07Speaker 1: your question, he said, they asked him about that, about
- 10:09Speaker 1: going against those cornerbacks. He said, we thought we had
- 10:12Speaker 1: an advantage. He said, it doesn't surprise me. With our receivers,
- 10:16Speaker 1: we thought we had an advantage. I guess what they
- 10:19Speaker 1: did there.
- 10:19Speaker 6: They are they're playmakers.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And then throw bussy in there too, because those guys
- 10:24Speaker 2: are really big time playmakers, some of the best I've
- 10:27Speaker 2: ever seen in Texas.
- 10:28Speaker 7: And you can throw a lot of stats on it.
- 10:29Speaker 7: And I said. Another one was last year Wegman missed
- 10:33Speaker 7: open receivers.
- 10:33Speaker 6: He threw for one.
- 10:34Speaker 7: Hundred yards against Notre Dame. Right Reid missed his open receiver.
- 10:38Speaker 7: He throws for three sixty and two touchdowns and two
- 10:41Speaker 7: touch and I get it, he had better receivers. But
- 10:43Speaker 7: if you go back, Wegman missed open receivers against Notre
- 10:46Speaker 7: Dame last year, And once again, is I'm with you,
- 10:48Speaker 7: chip my left, he's gonna get better. He well, he
- 10:51Speaker 7: threw for our sixty and he missed some throws.
- 10:53Speaker 2: A certain a certain time, when you that guy's that
- 10:56Speaker 2: wide open, you just loft it up there.
- 10:58Speaker 1: And again to me, still inexperience. Right when he's and
- 11:03Speaker 1: he's got a strong you know he's missing. That's about
- 11:06Speaker 1: the third long touchdown pass.
- 11:09Speaker 6: He's missed this ship Chiefs and the Eagles left yesterday.
- 11:12Speaker 6: I guess who missed a long touchdown? Easy?
- 11:14Speaker 1: One guy named Patrick Mahomes. Yeah, chief what happens, Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 6: It happens.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so man, and you get a little hurried in there,
- 11:21Speaker 2: but you just got to get put the air underneath that,
- 11:23Speaker 2: because man, there was two really big places.
- 11:27Speaker 7: But hey, Patrick mouse when he used to be good,
- 11:29Speaker 7: he met when.
- 11:31Speaker 1: He had people blocking and catching for him. Yeah, he
- 11:33Speaker 1: was good.
- 11:34Speaker 6: I just caught a glimpse of that. I was like, yeah,
- 11:37Speaker 6: it happens.
- 11:37Speaker 7: You know, Well what I'm having laughing on both sides?
- 11:40Speaker 7: Chip now I laugh. His odds go up for the
- 11:42Speaker 7: Heisman Trophy all this, and I go, they beat a
- 11:44Speaker 7: number eight team and he's got three sixty. I get it.
- 11:48Speaker 7: And if A and M beats Texas and beats L
- 11:50Speaker 7: s U, he'll be higher in the in the Heisman
- 11:53Speaker 7: Trophy trophy. Deal with. It's a little bit of hype, but.
- 11:56Speaker 1: The bottom line is, ain't M beat Notre Dame.
- 11:58Speaker 6: And Notre Dame in they have done that, and they
- 12:00Speaker 6: haven't done that.
- 12:01Speaker 2: They haven't taken advantage of it, and they've been the
- 12:04Speaker 2: ones who've dropped the snap. You know, they've been the
- 12:06Speaker 2: ones who've had the miss queue so many times, and
- 12:09Speaker 2: they've been the ones who lose it, you know it
- 12:12Speaker 2: by a point at Clemson. I mean we've seen it.
- 12:14Speaker 2: You know, it happened so many times.
- 12:16Speaker 7: And Notre Dame secondary is the one that had the
- 12:18Speaker 7: sheep skins up on the on the wall for all
- 12:20Speaker 7: American and all that they're down. They ain't knocked them down.
- 12:23Speaker 7: I don't know where that defense was because they should
- 12:26Speaker 7: have thrown for five hundred yards against.
- 12:27Speaker 6: That and they may have been knocked out of playoffs
- 12:30Speaker 6: by them.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I may think they were. Yeah, I mean, they's don't
- 12:33Speaker 2: play anybody. There's still another Dame.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So I mean that part's true.
- 12:39Speaker 7: Everybody said, oh, if they go to the two, I
- 12:41Speaker 7: think there's gonna be a lot of two and three
- 12:42Speaker 7: lost teams this year a lot and USC went into
- 12:46Speaker 7: the top twenty. But I don't think our top twenty
- 12:49Speaker 7: team because they haven't played anybody. But the bottom line is,
- 12:51Speaker 7: I get it if Notre Dame gets the ten and
- 12:53Speaker 7: two and they got the old broadcasting network, because I'm
- 12:56Speaker 7: watching every call that you heard. It was like, oh,
- 12:58Speaker 7: that was pretty bad. Yeah, because when it gets Notre
- 13:01Speaker 7: Dame and you don't want to be that way, but
- 13:04Speaker 7: it's their own it's their own network. I mean they
- 13:06Speaker 7: make money off of Notre Dame.
- 13:09Speaker 6: Yeah. Well, big win for the ay he's been with,
- 13:12Speaker 6: big win for Mike.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yo.
- 13:13Speaker 6: Like y'all said, I think it's a great that they
- 13:15Speaker 6: have this off week.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Well, you know, they got it really early Sunday morning.
- 13:18Speaker 1: They're a really emotional game, really hard fought, physical game,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and so they get a week. You know, they get
- 13:23Speaker 1: a week. Well, they get two weeks before they have
- 13:26Speaker 1: to play again, right, I mean, right now, the way
- 13:29Speaker 1: it looks, it couldn't be any better.
- 13:30Speaker 6: And Aubert has to play at Oklahoma.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Cory mean, that's a it's a big game from them.
- 13:34Speaker 7: Yes, and that week that win loses a lot of sluster.
- 13:36Speaker 7: Faedom doesn't take care of business. Gets Auburn No, because
- 13:39Speaker 7: you're right, and we'll forget pretty quick. And now everybody's
- 13:41Speaker 7: looking at them. It's like, oh, now suddenly you know,
- 13:44Speaker 7: people like Sam Pittman can save his job. You can
- 13:47Speaker 7: make a big statement if you beat A and M.
- 13:49Speaker 7: Because they're up in that pedestal. You're in the top
- 13:51Speaker 7: ten and now and them's going to walk the walk.
- 13:53Speaker 6: One thing we haven't seen AM them do really well
- 13:55Speaker 6: is handle success. Finish. Yeah, finish, handle success.
- 13:58Speaker 7: And you got admit it. I love it that they
- 14:00Speaker 7: that's been their motto. Finish. They finished that game. They
- 14:03Speaker 7: finished that game because they lose that game just as easily.
- 14:07Speaker 7: If you know he went those third third choice really
- 14:09Speaker 7: on that and the guy that had three two catches
- 14:12Speaker 7: in the whole year makes his third catch away.
- 14:14Speaker 2: You don't want that game to go with overtime obviously.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I mean, you know, the miss extra points set up
- 14:20Speaker 2: perfectly for A and M. And then also you know,
- 14:22Speaker 2: having the bussy to or the touchdown call back turned
- 14:24Speaker 2: out great in hindsight, even though I was very upset
- 14:27Speaker 2: at the time. Right it's like, because oh that's the
- 14:30Speaker 2: big play. I think, Okay, this is gonna turn it around.
- 14:33Speaker 2: But Notre Dame had proven they're gonna move the football
- 14:35Speaker 2: against sext A and M.
- 14:36Speaker 7: Yeah, without a doubt. And you have to look at
- 14:38Speaker 7: you see so many great games, and I watch that
- 14:40Speaker 7: Georgia Tennessee game before you know the A and M
- 14:43Speaker 7: game kicked off, and if you're gonna be good, you
- 14:46Speaker 7: have to handle adversity because everybody's gonna get people hurt.
- 14:48Speaker 7: Everybody's gonna leave for four or five plays a and
- 14:51Speaker 7: went right after their their freshman deal. Great coaching by
- 14:54Speaker 7: Klein to go out. I'm just saying, how do you
- 14:56Speaker 7: handle adversity because you're gonna get a lot in twelve
- 14:58Speaker 7: game schedule.
- 15:01Speaker 1: This is you know, I get a chance to look ahead.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I'm not a one game at a time guy, and
- 15:08Speaker 1: I don't have to be. I can look at the
- 15:10Speaker 1: whole thing.
- 15:11Speaker 6: Sure.
- 15:11Speaker 1: This month is just so critical for building momentum for
- 15:17Speaker 1: the back half of the season, where you know, you're
- 15:20Speaker 1: at LSU, at Texas, at Missouri, at Arkansas. You know,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and I don't know if Arkansas will be done by then.
- 15:30Speaker 1: But I watched that Old Miss game, and that's a
- 15:32Speaker 1: game I'm flipping right all day. And so most people
- 15:36Speaker 1: didn't see that game because there's other games going on.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I think it was A and M game going on.
- 15:41Speaker 1: But I'm that was forty five forty one right. Ole
- 15:45Speaker 1: Miss had no answer for Taylor Green, the Arkansas quarterback.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Is that right?
- 15:49Speaker 1: And frankly, no one has yet not I realized Arkansas
- 15:52Speaker 1: until this week hasn't played anybody. They played Notre Dame, right.
- 15:58Speaker 7: They played not I think at home too.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Yes, they do play Notre Dame at home. Uh, they're
- 16:05Speaker 1: in fact, but they're at Memphis this week.
- 16:08Speaker 7: Memphis is good for Memphis, good football team. Lose that game.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I'm saying, I don't know what shape they'll be in.
- 16:14Speaker 1: But when I when I watched Arkansas, I'm going, Okay,
- 16:18Speaker 1: this isn't your grandmother's Arkansas. They have got some studs.
- 16:22Speaker 1: They may not have enough, but the quarterback, the running back,
- 16:26Speaker 1: they've got a receiver. Offensively, I mean, they're formidable, right,
- 16:32Speaker 1: and so you never know what what kind of mood
- 16:34Speaker 1: they're going to be in when you go to Pavietnam.
- 16:36Speaker 1: You know, in the middle of the season, they may
- 16:38Speaker 1: have lost through four in a row by then. I
- 16:40Speaker 1: don't know, But I'm just saying that the back half
- 16:45Speaker 1: of the A and M schedule to me looks just
- 16:48Speaker 1: as if not more dawning, than it did when I
- 16:51Speaker 1: looked at the first of the year. So these four
- 16:55Speaker 1: weeks with the whole with the open date, you host Auburn,
- 17:00Speaker 1: you host the Mississippi State, you host Florida. R say
- 17:04Speaker 1: when the season started they have to win at home.
- 17:07Speaker 6: They have to win those games. Yeah, they have to,
- 17:10Speaker 6: especially now.
- 17:11Speaker 2: We're seeing the weaknesses of Florida and missispstts Room. Missip
- 17:15Speaker 2: State is a little bit better. Yeah, there's not that great.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Now they're three and oh, but they're not that crazy.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I tell you they're lucky that they don't have to
- 17:22Speaker 2: play Vanderbilt. Apparently it should be seven thirty one to
- 17:27Speaker 2: seven beating South Carolina.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, I have my quarter. I have
- 17:31Speaker 1: early Uh he's okay, Yeah, they lost in that game.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I know you're talking about the sellers, Yes, Diego, you're
- 17:39Speaker 1: talking about Diegot talk about Diego.
- 17:41Speaker 6: Yeah, he's fel he's so fun.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Well, clerkly went out. Of course, they didn't win early on.
- 17:45Speaker 1: And I'm looking at this guy and I'm going, man,
- 17:48Speaker 1: this guy's got When I saw that sec Netflix thing,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I went, okay, now I see what's behind this this
- 17:55Speaker 1: kind of facade.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Right, it's got a little Johnny and he died.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Pabia has a lot of Johnny right, a lot. Yes,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I know, I saw that little deal where they hooked
- 18:09Speaker 1: up with Johnny's podcast. You know how excited he was
- 18:11Speaker 1: to talk to him. But man, the job Clark Lee
- 18:15Speaker 1: has done with the with this program is impressive because
- 18:18Speaker 1: you know, they ain't getting the quality of players that
- 18:22Speaker 1: that are coming here or in Austin or anywhere else
- 18:24Speaker 1: in the SEC for that in.
- 18:27Speaker 6: Their own state, right.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I mean, that guy's he's done a job so far.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Coaching matters, does.
- 18:33Speaker 7: And I think nil money matters.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you think they have a little.
- 18:37Speaker 7: I think Vanderbilt's probably got a little of that. And
- 18:39Speaker 7: you know, well, I mean.
- 18:40Speaker 1: They're in private school with a lot of money. I
- 18:42Speaker 1: don't know what they're spending because I don't have to
- 18:44Speaker 1: tell this.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I think all their major league players are contributed football
- 18:49Speaker 2: that maybe, yeah, you got to have that.
- 18:52Speaker 7: You know, Clark Lee is a pretty steady guy. I
- 18:54Speaker 7: think he was the d C.
- 18:56Speaker 1: He reminds me of Bill Snyder. He was Remember how
- 18:58Speaker 1: boring Bill Snyder? What's always just just that monotone drone.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I'm going, Bill, good, gosh, get a personality. And when
- 19:07Speaker 1: clark Lee's up front, You're going, God, who do you
- 19:10Speaker 1: want to play for this guy? But when you watch
- 19:12Speaker 1: behind the scenes and what he does with these players,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I'm going, Okay, I'm impressed.
- 19:16Speaker 7: And you know, Mike Elko DC at Notre Dame, takes
- 19:19Speaker 7: him to A and M as head coach. Then Lee
- 19:21Speaker 7: follows him as as DC because he was the quarterbacks
- 19:24Speaker 7: quarter linebackers coach and now he is coaching in the league. Yeah,
- 19:27Speaker 7: once again we talk about coaching and talent. Of course,
- 19:31Speaker 7: now nil money figures into it. And look at all
- 19:34Speaker 7: the players came to New Mexico State two years ago,
- 19:37Speaker 7: including Stours, and he stayed another year. So Lee is
- 19:40Speaker 7: put together a very affordable formal team.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Have you thought about, guys, what that one play and
- 19:48Speaker 1: one point does with how we're approaching today and the
- 19:55Speaker 1: season and the coaching staff and as you you know,
- 20:01Speaker 1: it is just incredible how thin that margin is.
- 20:06Speaker 6: We talk about it all the time. It's such a
- 20:09Speaker 6: narrow line.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Thirteen seconds.
- 20:11Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yeah, But I go back chip, you talk
- 20:14Speaker 7: about coaching when the game started, and I thought the
- 20:18Speaker 7: guy was gonna tackle White before he even got the puntoff.
- 20:22Speaker 7: So I thought Notre Dame had done such great scouting
- 20:24Speaker 7: in the week. They knew they were gonna hit that
- 20:27Speaker 7: right for that and they were gonna do that. And
- 20:29Speaker 7: that's what coaching will do for you when you have
- 20:31Speaker 7: eighty five gas and all this yes, and now A
- 20:34Speaker 7: and M's doing that this week. They're looking ahead. They're
- 20:36Speaker 7: probably scout in Arkansas, they're scouting Green, they're bitching.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Why I think Craver's catch and run was so huge
- 20:43Speaker 2: because that was the answer.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Change back to the moment exactly why.
- 20:48Speaker 6: I felt like, oh crap, here we go.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I was still twenty four to fourteen, and you're going, well,
- 20:53Speaker 1: they hadn't stopped him, and yet no.
- 20:55Speaker 6: Agree, you know, I mean, but you had a feel,
- 20:57Speaker 6: or at least had a feel that A and M
- 20:59Speaker 6: can move football tea.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Yes, we did know that. And it was like, okay,
- 21:03Speaker 1: can they outscore them? Because I don't think they could
- 21:05Speaker 1: stop them. They outscore them, and then they stopped them
- 21:08Speaker 1: on the fourth day. Well, okay, so let's talk about
- 21:11Speaker 1: some coaching situations. So that that wildcat formation with Jeremiah
- 21:16Speaker 1: over fourth and two at the forty five yard line,
- 21:19Speaker 1: that was a horrible call. I know, it's it's like
- 21:22Speaker 1: you're looking after the that's a horrible call. They had
- 21:25Speaker 1: just punted them down to the one yard line to
- 21:26Speaker 1: punt before. How how different would that changed? They got
- 21:31Speaker 1: used way too often, and every time they take the
- 21:33Speaker 1: guy out of there, you take a guy out of
- 21:35Speaker 1: the box and never paid attention.
- 21:37Speaker 2: You're to the quarter you are motioning the quarterback, so
- 21:39Speaker 2: you're losing the blocker. I didn't figured at some point
- 21:43Speaker 2: they're going to throw a short little pass on there
- 21:45Speaker 2: that you know, yeah, then exactly setting it up.
- 21:47Speaker 1: But they never did a stupid call.
- 21:51Speaker 6: Bad call.
- 21:52Speaker 1: It was a horrible call. It was a horrible call.
- 21:55Speaker 1: So while I'm thinking about it, I mentioned I was
- 21:57Speaker 1: going to talk about this Tennessee, Georgia. So so hypel.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I mean, he has and he has the audacity to
- 22:09Speaker 1: throw his kicker under the bus after the game. Yes,
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'm going you have got.
- 22:15Speaker 3: To be.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Stupidest play on on third down to to run another
- 22:23Speaker 1: was seven seconds left, SEMN playing and then were five
- 22:29Speaker 1: yard penalty. Well, you idiot, Yes, you had it in
- 22:33Speaker 1: the middle of the field, the kickers ready, everyone's ready.
- 22:37Speaker 1: You are going to run another play. You put it
- 22:39Speaker 1: on the hash mark. You got one second left, you
- 22:43Speaker 1: get five yards. I'm going, You're an idiot. Why would
- 22:48Speaker 1: you do that?
- 22:49Speaker 6: Yeah, he lost that game.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I mean to go, thank you.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I'm not the only one that thought that score.
- 22:59Speaker 7: Why they do NFL too, But particularly in college, you're
- 23:01Speaker 7: gonna rely on this kid that hadn't kicked the game
- 23:03Speaker 7: winning wintershow and you're just ripping. George is going back.
- 23:07Speaker 7: They're giving you all kind of cushion running and you
- 23:09Speaker 7: go ahead and give up four or five give me
- 23:11Speaker 7: plays in the middle.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I mean, what a what a great weekend for the
- 23:16Speaker 2: state of Georgia, though, Georgia te I mean, and.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I tell you, I'm kicking myself. You know, I wanted
- 23:23Speaker 1: to pick Georgia did on that game. I wanted to.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I'm just a huge Haynes King fan. He is a warrior,
- 23:33Speaker 1: but I'm also a key fan that coach. That team
- 23:38Speaker 1: plays with an edge man. And again, I don't think
- 23:42Speaker 1: they're the most talented team.
- 23:44Speaker 6: And they played it perfectly.
- 23:46Speaker 2: They ran the kicker on there in time. It was
- 23:48Speaker 2: the last play of the game. Coaching, it was perfect
- 23:53Speaker 2: game a couple of years ago.
- 23:55Speaker 1: That's right, and they ran in perfectly.
- 23:57Speaker 7: Coaching while we're all hopping around, I was not sold
- 24:01Speaker 7: rusty on case On Concepcion or Craver in the first
- 24:05Speaker 7: two games because I went back and look at their
- 24:07Speaker 7: stats and they hadn't done much. You know, conceptci on
- 24:09Speaker 7: decent year, decent stats, the first year, but he only
- 24:12Speaker 7: had like a nine year talk about before they got here,
- 24:15Speaker 7: like last year nine point seven in a week acc
- 24:18Speaker 7: and I go, yeah, I want to see what they
- 24:19Speaker 7: do against someone. And this was a kind of game
- 24:21Speaker 7: I'll remember. I always remember. I didn't wasn't sold on
- 24:25Speaker 7: Johnny and I went down to Mississippi State in that year,
- 24:27Speaker 7: the first fifth game, and he did everything on the road,
- 24:30Speaker 7: and I go, wow, this this is really real deal.
- 24:33Speaker 7: This is kind of deal because I go, okay, if
- 24:34Speaker 7: they go against this defense it was number one in
- 24:37Speaker 7: base worstly everything last year returned six starters, three in
- 24:40Speaker 7: the secondary. If they go have a decent game. No,
- 24:43Speaker 7: they didn't have a decent game.
- 24:44Speaker 1: If if Reid would have got from the ball, they
- 24:48Speaker 1: could have been both over one hundred, Well, that sold
- 24:51Speaker 1: me a lot.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Obviously Craver had over two hundred. But Conceptioon made a catch.
- 24:56Speaker 1: The great he went up in rested his body.
- 25:01Speaker 6: It was a great catch.
- 25:02Speaker 1: It was his hands are are exceptional, and so those
- 25:05Speaker 1: are the kind of things that those players we've talked
- 25:08Speaker 1: about that how many years now over and receiver to
- 25:11Speaker 1: go up and.
- 25:12Speaker 7: Catch the ball that saved an interception.
- 25:14Speaker 1: It was Mike Evans like, and most.
- 25:16Speaker 7: Times he's getting double teamed, so you know, you could
- 25:19Speaker 7: tell they're coming out trying to stop the run. And
- 25:22Speaker 7: Adam's got, like you said, the weapons. You slack off
- 25:26Speaker 7: these guys, you're gonna get burnt. Well, you just got
- 25:28Speaker 7: to get craved the ball space.
- 25:29Speaker 1: The bussy stirred on this list whatever I mean, because
- 25:32Speaker 1: he's got speed.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Eventually, and we hadn't seen it and he hadn't hit it.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I mean, we're gonna see that drop back, straight drop back,
- 25:39Speaker 2: and we put him on the fly and just.
- 25:41Speaker 6: Heave it and let him run underneath it, because it's.
- 25:44Speaker 7: Mean either one of those guys.
- 25:45Speaker 6: Even though those guys will go get it.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Even when those guys are covered, they're open.
- 25:51Speaker 7: That's that's what you were saying.
- 25:52Speaker 6: Yes, I mean they literally are.
- 25:54Speaker 7: And that's only three games together. Just think when they
- 25:57Speaker 7: played six and seven.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Going back that Craven three war five times last night,
- 26:02Speaker 2: those three defenders were right there.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Do you know I just told Caleb, I said, uh,
- 26:07Speaker 1: and Craven's may be may be better. But what it
- 26:10Speaker 1: reminded me of was last year Ryan Williamson Alabama made
- 26:15Speaker 1: several of those twitchy plays and he's a burner, right,
- 26:18Speaker 1: and he's making those plays and he's he's somehow coming
- 26:22Speaker 1: out of that three man because of you know, how
- 26:25Speaker 1: he twitches. I mean that's special, right, It's it's special.
- 26:29Speaker 7: Okay, if you watched the game second time. And what
- 26:31Speaker 7: I'd like to do is, of course they did have
- 26:33Speaker 7: a press conference today. I wish they would have what
- 26:35Speaker 7: happened in the second half. That crab only had no
- 26:38Speaker 7: catches until the end. So did Notre Dame do anything
- 26:41Speaker 7: different or just took something else? Could you tell?
- 26:43Speaker 6: I couldn't really tell.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I just didn't know if we're if Marcelle was doing
- 26:47Speaker 2: a good enough job of looking for him. And I
- 26:51Speaker 2: just wondered, Yeah, you know, Notre Dame they've got great corners,
- 26:55Speaker 2: well they those guys are talented, and so yeah, I
- 26:59Speaker 2: mean they had down they had to do some adjustments.
- 27:01Speaker 6: I mean, he's still had over two hundred yards.
- 27:03Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying is he disappeared in the
- 27:05Speaker 7: second half a little.
- 27:06Speaker 1: We probably could have had three hundred. And I wonder,
- 27:09Speaker 1: but am now.
- 27:10Speaker 7: Has weapons chip And I used to always talk about
- 27:12Speaker 7: do you have game breakers on every level offense and defenses?
- 27:15Speaker 7: A lot of times them, even when they had the
- 27:17Speaker 7: great Miles Garret didn't anything to go with them. Now
- 27:19Speaker 7: it seems like Adam's got parts.
- 27:22Speaker 6: Yeah, no doubt.
- 27:24Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna take a break. It's a good
- 27:27Speaker 1: time to stop. Rusty person's here. Robert Sessin is here.

- 31:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I was tempted to you, annound, I was tempted to
- 31:46Speaker 1: go to all three games, but I have to work.
- 31:48Speaker 7: So where gets the way long?
- 31:51Speaker 6: It does?
- 31:51Speaker 1: It does the most important silver Boot series since the
- 31:55Speaker 1: playoffs in twenty twenty three.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yep, absolutely, I feel good about it me too.
- 32:00Speaker 7: For the Rangers, beind'ma there's two back of the Astro
- 32:03Speaker 7: three games.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Yeah, they're two back of the Astros and three back
- 32:06Speaker 1: of Seattle, which is the.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Only half game ahead of the guard Guardians.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Yeah, well, they got to win three. I mean they
- 32:15Speaker 1: have to win two. I mean, I mean that's non negotiable.
- 32:19Speaker 1: They they had a chance to sweep yesterday and and
- 32:22Speaker 1: really blew it.
- 32:23Speaker 2: You would have taken you would have taken five to
- 32:25Speaker 2: one against the Brewers in them, I.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Would have in a heart beat, in a heart beat, right,
- 32:29Speaker 1: you can't win every game, but.
- 32:31Speaker 6: That's what I said this.
- 32:33Speaker 1: They must win two of three. Yeah, and then Seattle
- 32:36Speaker 1: comes in to play the Astros. Okay, cool, So we're
- 32:39Speaker 1: we're gonna have a real good idea by next Friday.
- 32:42Speaker 1: If boys take two out of three, that would be
- 32:44Speaker 1: pretty good. It would be very good. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 32:47Speaker 1: it would be very good. Fans out there, do you
- 32:50Speaker 1: realize that I don't care, We don't care. It's your show. Yeah,
- 32:53Speaker 1: it's my show. You want to talk astros, get your
- 32:56Speaker 1: own radio show. You can, you can.
- 33:03Speaker 2: I got I got a text from yesterday and you're
- 33:06Speaker 2: talking about Michael Hillman versus Odolas Michael Hellman.
- 33:09Speaker 6: Michael Helman has been fantastic.
- 33:11Speaker 2: It's been great, and I don't disagree with you yesterday.
- 33:14Speaker 2: But anytime Adulas is healthy enough to play in Houston,
- 33:18Speaker 2: I want him play.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and Houston absolutely because he needs all Conversely,
- 33:24Speaker 1: they may not have Altuve in a lineup tonight because
- 33:27Speaker 1: he's got a little foot injury and he didn't play yesterday.
- 33:30Speaker 1: They said it's gonna be a couple of days it
- 33:31Speaker 1: was still a story yesterday. So speaking of being ranger killers.
- 33:35Speaker 1: And by the way, he's been a lot uh more
- 33:37Speaker 1: of a ranger killer Darlington than he even hasn't Houston.
- 33:40Speaker 1: But we don't want him in the lineup. No, what
- 33:44Speaker 1: I do want the lineup is is Valdez. I think
- 33:47Speaker 1: scheduled to pitch against him during this during this time
- 33:49Speaker 1: because I don't think Hunter Brown is I think Brown
- 33:52Speaker 1: Hunter Brown is not and that's a huge is not
- 33:56Speaker 1: a shoot. So I wanted Framber in there. Yeah, I
- 34:00Speaker 1: just like to see him implode. I just love that.
- 34:03Speaker 1: I think that's so much fun. Okay, I know, I
- 34:06Speaker 1: know it's football season, but I had to. I had
- 34:09Speaker 1: to had again, all right, Yeah, it is a great
- 34:13Speaker 1: time of year if you have a team, you've got
- 34:16Speaker 1: a team in the hunt. You know, I got a deal.
- 34:18Speaker 1: It's time to start putting in for playoffs, you know, credentials.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And I'm going, man, I never thought that I would
- 34:25Speaker 1: be putting in for playoff credentials a month ago. And
- 34:29Speaker 1: it still may not, but still.
- 34:30Speaker 6: Still but at least they've made this thing interesting.
- 34:33Speaker 1: They've made it very interesting ritual. Yeah, I mean, it's
- 34:36Speaker 1: just it's fun to have a team in that.
- 34:38Speaker 2: At one point, I was wondering if they're going to
- 34:40Speaker 2: have another losing season, and you know now they've they've
- 34:43Speaker 2: spun off this, you know, twelve and five, you know,
- 34:46Speaker 2: yeah record, yeah, and so yeah, it's it's it's been fun.
- 34:50Speaker 6: And I like to pitching matchups all weekend.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Or all three. I don't know which Jack Lider we're
- 34:56Speaker 1: getting tonight. I don't know if we're getting good jack
- 34:58Speaker 1: or bad jack.
- 34:59Speaker 6: You know.
- 34:59Speaker 2: He he took a no hitter against the Astros into
- 35:03Speaker 2: the sixth earlier this year, and.
- 35:06Speaker 1: He's pitched well against the Astro but he's also throwing
- 35:09Speaker 1: one hundred pitches and three innings for a lot of
- 35:11Speaker 1: the season too, Jacob Latz almost three hundred pitches and
- 35:14Speaker 1: two innings and then bounce back. He's been really good.
- 35:17Speaker 1: All right, Okay, that's I know, I know, I get
- 35:20Speaker 1: it going forward. So next week we won't have a
- 35:25Speaker 1: game to talk about. But but the good thing about
- 35:30Speaker 1: one of the many good things. But you can go
- 35:33Speaker 1: to practice today and Elko has shown the film. They
- 35:35Speaker 1: can show the film into thirteen penalties. They can show
- 35:39Speaker 1: the film of giving up forty points they have got.
- 35:42Speaker 1: They can show the film of missing scoring opportunities, getting.
- 35:45Speaker 7: The pun block good gosh easily blocked.
- 35:50Speaker 1: And ruining a kickoff return with a bonehead play, went
- 35:54Speaker 1: away from the play, boneheaded play. So there's a lot
- 35:58Speaker 1: to clean up, but to me, it's gonna be a
- 36:00Speaker 1: lot easier this week to clean up.
- 36:01Speaker 7: And this is and that's the things we've seen with
- 36:03Speaker 7: the naked eye. Just think all the mistakes they made
- 36:06Speaker 7: that we didn't want to see, right, I mean, I'm
- 36:09Speaker 7: sure found all of it. It's unbelievable how many mistakes they
- 36:11Speaker 7: made and won the game.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, And so good teams can overcome something they did.
- 36:19Speaker 7: And they did.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Yeah, And I thought, I still think, I don't know
- 36:22Speaker 1: what you guys saw it. See she saw him live,
- 36:24Speaker 1: so sometimes you have a better opinion of that. I
- 36:27Speaker 1: still think Notre Dame is a pretty good football team.
- 36:30Speaker 7: I think so too, just some of their Like I said,
- 36:32Speaker 7: we talked about their and I watched a little bit
- 36:35Speaker 7: of the Miami game. So I'm not impressed with the
- 36:37Speaker 7: offensive coordinator in two weeks because I don't think he's
- 36:39Speaker 7: getting the most out of what he has, right, And
- 36:42Speaker 7: I'm thinking, like we keep talking and sometimes you know,
- 36:45Speaker 7: it's like the old friend him, maybe you do need somebody.
- 36:50Speaker 7: Media guy whispered in your ear. But these games are
- 36:53Speaker 7: all decided by one play. And I think they had
- 36:56Speaker 7: about twenty plays, and I think A and M at
- 36:59Speaker 7: a twelve edge and those kind of plays because just
- 37:02Speaker 7: coaching just making a bad decision and everybody can't coll place,
- 37:06Speaker 7: whether you're a defensive coordinator, an offensive cornertor I thought
- 37:08Speaker 7: A and M coaches made better calls overcome all those mistakes,
- 37:13Speaker 7: because like I said, you can't have a punt blocked
- 37:15Speaker 7: in the first two minutes, usually lose that game.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Oh anytime you give up like a not you know,
- 37:20Speaker 1: a non traditional score. I mean, the percentages are so
- 37:23Speaker 1: high here. And that's the first thing I thought. I
- 37:25Speaker 1: don't know about you guys, but right out of the box,
- 37:28Speaker 1: they get seven on a block. Putt, here we go,
- 37:31Speaker 1: Here on the road, here we go. That's what I thought.
- 37:33Speaker 1: I said, here's you can't overcome that. Here's the number four.
- 37:36Speaker 7: Then when he over come it, and then Notre Dame
- 37:38Speaker 7: keeps coming back, I go, I'm seeing South Carolina. Last year,
- 37:41Speaker 7: you know, South Carolina jumped till seventeen. Oh, lead A
- 37:43Speaker 7: and m's not there. They come back, take the lead,
- 37:45Speaker 7: and Stuart makes a stupid penalty and then South Carolina
- 37:49Speaker 7: scores twenty seven on his rull.
- 37:50Speaker 2: No, he wasn't perfect, but I felt somehow more comfortable
- 37:54Speaker 2: with Randy Bond in there. It was good to see,
- 37:56Speaker 2: you know, him him about. Obviously he won that position back.
- 37:59Speaker 7: Well, I think of my been an injury because we
- 38:00Speaker 7: couldn't we couldn't see everywhere.
- 38:04Speaker 6: Well, it's good to have Randy Bond.
- 38:06Speaker 7: Randy Bullock, that's okay. I mean, you know, it's like
- 38:09Speaker 7: that happens. He's hard hard for cease, remember things like that.
- 38:12Speaker 7: Getting said, yes he was. He missed the first one,
- 38:15Speaker 7: but clutch it was fifty two. Yeah, it was too long,
- 38:18Speaker 7: but he made fifty five last year.
- 38:20Speaker 1: I know, I mean he could make it.
- 38:21Speaker 7: But he knows were two clutch ones on the road
- 38:23Speaker 7: after missing.
- 38:24Speaker 6: Yeah, you know it is you don't ever know college kickers.
- 38:27Speaker 1: The actual point was clutching. Yes, well, you know, so
- 38:29Speaker 1: many the pressure on you, not Notre Dame was coming
- 38:31Speaker 1: hard for that, and I'm watching it.
- 38:33Speaker 7: I go, this is not a GIMMI this is not.
- 38:36Speaker 1: A gimpecially after what happened exactly you can't tell me
- 38:39Speaker 1: they're not thinking about Oh yeah, they.
- 38:40Speaker 6: Were, well, and that's such a hard job. I mean,
- 38:43Speaker 6: I know this.
- 38:44Speaker 2: The snappers, uh father very well, Jay Graham and Jacob Graham.
- 38:49Speaker 2: You don't hear about those guys, which is good at
- 38:51Speaker 2: least screw up. And so you know you're you're on
- 38:55Speaker 2: pins and needles that way. That's okay, that's your Yeah,
- 38:58Speaker 2: you know, the hold your son snapping. So it's all.
- 39:03Speaker 7: Notre Dame fans know the backup quarterback that didn't handle
- 39:05Speaker 7: that snap.
- 39:06Speaker 6: Oh yeah, ANBC.
- 39:09Speaker 1: The producer nots, and the director knows.
- 39:11Speaker 6: It's like this.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Guy, you should never know what college kickers such difference
- 39:15Speaker 2: than college kickers and NFL kickers, you know you, I
- 39:18Speaker 2: mean you.
- 39:19Speaker 6: Just never know.
- 39:20Speaker 2: And then so you saw so many clutch ones. I
- 39:21Speaker 2: mean the Georgia Tech you know, kicker fifty yards.
- 39:26Speaker 7: Down, the careers long, you know, and I'm watching that
- 39:29Speaker 7: Georgia go Why you call off the dogs, hypel, You
- 39:33Speaker 7: can go right down and get a touchdown. You're gonna
- 39:35Speaker 7: rely on the kicker. They kept flashing no winning field goals,
- 39:38Speaker 7: and for I'm thinking, like if somebody show that the hypel,
- 39:42Speaker 7: I mean you know, and it wasn't even close.
- 39:44Speaker 1: He you know, I don't have a dog in that fight,
- 39:46Speaker 1: except that I did pick Georgia, So I was glad.
- 39:48Speaker 1: I was glad that they won the game. Uh and Hypel,
- 39:54Speaker 1: you know, I heard it in the summertime. They were
- 39:57Speaker 1: asking about quarterbacks and goes Wa always been real good
- 40:00Speaker 1: with quarterbacks. I'm not concerned about that. So there is
- 40:04Speaker 1: a thin line between right, arrogance and confidence, and a
- 40:09Speaker 1: lot of times Hypel falls off that thin line.
- 40:11Speaker 6: Right.
- 40:12Speaker 1: But if you're going to throw your team under the bus,
- 40:17Speaker 1: I can't imagine some of the players are have to
- 40:20Speaker 1: be real happy about that.
- 40:21Speaker 7: I have to go back and look that comments because
- 40:23Speaker 7: we did. That's just totally wrong because he's the one
- 40:25Speaker 7: that set him up to fail.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, he set him up to fail, there's
- 40:28Speaker 1: no doubt.
- 40:28Speaker 7: And you can't do that as a coach.
- 40:30Speaker 1: So when you watch fifteen hours of football, you just
- 40:32Speaker 1: see so much. You see coaches who are doing great,
- 40:35Speaker 1: you see coaches aren't doing so great. You know, but
- 40:38Speaker 1: college football is like just what you mentioned, Sesus says,
- 40:42Speaker 1: there's gonna be a lot of mistakes made, There's gonna
- 40:45Speaker 1: be a lot of bone headed, plays made right, and
- 40:49Speaker 1: you're right. It's like, are you good enough to are
- 40:53Speaker 1: you mentally tough enough? To me, that's coaching, right, Are
- 40:57Speaker 1: you mentally tough enough to overcome that and to go
- 41:00Speaker 1: do what needs to be done, because, like I said,
- 41:03Speaker 1: you're on the road. You get a block putt for
- 41:05Speaker 1: a score that doesn't happen every Saturday, right out of
- 41:10Speaker 1: the gate, Right out of the gate, the crowd's already
- 41:12Speaker 1: CHUICD and you're going, man, this is not good. But
- 41:17Speaker 1: and I got credit.
- 41:18Speaker 7: And I go in the back of their minds, if
- 41:19Speaker 7: you're trade Zoon, whatever, how do you say, here we
- 41:21Speaker 7: go again? I mean we we Yeah, we've been here before.
- 41:24Speaker 7: We've done this, We've done you know what. They didn't
- 41:26Speaker 7: do it. They didn't.
- 41:27Speaker 1: They didn't think that way. They did say. You know,
- 41:29Speaker 1: Elko addressed that after the game. It's like, yeah, we
- 41:33Speaker 1: you know. I'm real proud of them for they had
- 41:36Speaker 1: middle eight strong.
- 41:37Speaker 7: He said last week he said we got to get
- 41:40Speaker 7: over that home. I mean, and he is right. I
- 41:42Speaker 7: addressed it. It's not it was right. It was the
- 41:44Speaker 7: elephant in the room, and they brought the elephant out.
- 41:46Speaker 7: They didn't leave it back there. They brought on, guys,
- 41:49Speaker 7: we haven't done this.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Since we fourteen. Yeah, it's our time, you know, And
- 41:53Speaker 1: that's the whay. You gotta have everything to come together.
- 41:55Speaker 1: And I'll go back to Marcella. You know, he's cool
- 41:58Speaker 1: and calm under pressure, and you got I have that.
- 42:00Speaker 1: You know, I give them so.
- 42:02Speaker 6: Much better, that's the thing. He's gonna be better, he is.
- 42:05Speaker 7: But but you could tell he does lead the team
- 42:07Speaker 7: and he's he's and he's got that way. You want
- 42:10Speaker 7: to call it cockiness or confidence, but your quarterback's gotta
- 42:13Speaker 7: have that.
- 42:13Speaker 1: If you want to you watch these games, you got
- 42:16Speaker 1: to have a quarterback. Have a quarterback.
- 42:19Speaker 7: You have to have a quarterback that throws an interception
- 42:20Speaker 7: in a key one and comes over not necessarily laughs
- 42:23Speaker 7: about it, but he goes, what do I gotta do?
- 42:25Speaker 7: I mean not the thing was, but you're gonna make
- 42:27Speaker 7: mistakes and then you watch, you know, Ole Miss gets
- 42:31Speaker 7: a guy, a senior transfer and he comes out of
- 42:33Speaker 7: nowhere as a back up and he had a good game.
- 42:35Speaker 7: Now he was really Now is he gonna be that way?
- 42:38Speaker 7: But you got to find.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Those guys, and you know, bottom line is Marcel Reed
- 42:41Speaker 2: maybe the best quarterback in the state.
- 42:44Speaker 1: He may be, I haven't seen it good. I haven't
- 42:47Speaker 1: seen enough of the kid Texas Tech. I haven't seen
- 42:50Speaker 1: enough of him, the TCU kid.
- 42:51Speaker 6: Is it Hoover? He was Sawyer?
- 42:53Speaker 1: Sawyer's good at Baylor. There are some good qbs. Nobody's
- 42:59Speaker 1: mentioned our yet.
- 43:00Speaker 6: No, we haven't missioned our.
- 43:01Speaker 7: Is he still starting?
- 43:02Speaker 6: I heard he got booed.
- 43:03Speaker 7: Are going to going to the NFL, so don't worry.
- 43:06Speaker 2: About Yeah, well he's going to be the hous Trophy
- 43:09Speaker 2: winner too.
- 43:09Speaker 7: But they're going to new Trophy for that.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I'm a little concerned about that.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll talk about He's just like, his numbers were
- 43:17Speaker 2: pretty pretty.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I will say this, Uh, they would not have beaten
- 43:24Speaker 1: any team in the SEC on Saturday.
- 43:26Speaker 7: Wow, I just see the game.
- 43:28Speaker 1: They would not They would not have beaten any team
- 43:31Speaker 1: in the SEC on Saturday. I'm pretty confident saying that,
- 43:34Speaker 1: pretty confident.
- 43:35Speaker 7: And I've heard our right people say, now, maybe start
- 43:38Speaker 7: shouldn't be calling his place. I mean, when when you lose,
- 43:41Speaker 7: it's or when you play badly, when you play back,
- 43:43Speaker 7: It's amazing how many armchair quarterbacks are out there.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Well, and you know they went on the road and
- 43:48Speaker 2: lost their close games to our state.
- 43:51Speaker 6: They could have gone.
- 43:51Speaker 1: The defense is they may be better than last year.
- 43:55Speaker 6: Is that right?
- 43:55Speaker 1: They are top top.
- 43:59Speaker 7: They're pretty good. They got all Americans.
- 44:01Speaker 1: I mean, they're really good.
- 44:03Speaker 6: Was eleven twenty five, one hundred and fourteen yards.
- 44:06Speaker 1: He was zero for ten in one stretch.
- 44:08Speaker 6: Oh my gosh.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Really he missed ten passes in a row, and some
- 44:11Speaker 1: of the passes you've seen him before. And people keep
- 44:14Speaker 1: saying he's hurt, and I don't know because they're not
- 44:16Speaker 1: going to obviously not going to say that. But he
- 44:19Speaker 1: he has this side arm sling that I've never seen before,
- 44:23Speaker 1: and he's pulled that out every game he's played, and
- 44:27Speaker 1: he's still bouncing passes that are ten yards from him.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Something is And if it's mental, man, good luck overcoming that.
- 44:37Speaker 6: You know.
- 44:37Speaker 1: If it's not an injury and it is all mental, wow,
- 44:42Speaker 1: that's gonna be toughed over.
- 44:44Speaker 7: Few people saw that coming because everybody thought this was
- 44:48Speaker 7: he just.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Has mental approach. And now he's dealt with all of
- 44:52Speaker 1: the hype. But now if he's not hurt, that's a
- 44:56Speaker 1: huge deal over there.
- 44:57Speaker 7: Understood is when does Texas like played George Wins next
- 45:00Speaker 7: big game because like they're back.
- 45:02Speaker 1: They play Sam Houston, they have an open date, they
- 45:05Speaker 1: go to Florida before they play Oklahoma.
- 45:08Speaker 7: Okay, so all.

- 48:10Speaker 12: Good?
- 48:11Speaker 6: Fuck so good?
- 48:13Speaker 1: I got you, Welcome back. That's the great James Brown
- 48:18Speaker 1: right there, man, rusty person, Robert Sasna. We have got
- 48:21Speaker 1: the Writers round Table brought to you by Intech and
- 48:25Speaker 1: First Financial Bank tomorrow, Ivan Mayzel, I'm going to replay
- 48:29Speaker 1: an interview I did with him about three weeks ago.
- 48:31Speaker 1: But his book is out tomorrow, American Coach on the
- 48:34Speaker 1: story of Frank Lahey. It is terrific, Ivan Mazel, Tomorrow.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Let's talk about the rest of the league a little bit, guys.
- 48:42Speaker 1: And besides South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Vanderbilt just crushed them.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I realized Sellers went out, but that was not a fluke.
- 48:52Speaker 1: South Carolina's defense is not.
- 48:54Speaker 7: Very good in their offensive line of suspect going in
- 48:56Speaker 7: because they lost a lot of guys.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Well, they lost a lot of guys on the front
- 48:59Speaker 1: as well, which is why I wasn't totally on that
- 49:03Speaker 1: South Carolina bandwagon as good as Sellers isn't. Of course,
- 49:07Speaker 1: he got hurt early, and he hadn't been great the
- 49:10Speaker 1: first games.
- 49:10Speaker 7: Either got have help, gotta help.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Yeah, he didn't have enough help, and uh, that's I
- 49:16Speaker 1: think that's going to be an issue.
- 49:17Speaker 6: Now.
- 49:18Speaker 1: I'm feeling a little bit better about Alabama now, guys,
- 49:21Speaker 1: I'm thinking they're hitting there. This quarterback has been really good. Uh,
- 49:26Speaker 1: and I know Wisconsin's not great either, I get that,
- 49:30Speaker 1: but man, they just hammered them Saturday.
- 49:33Speaker 6: It took care of business. That's they did.
- 49:35Speaker 2: Yeah, when they came out and ban ban bang, they
- 49:38Speaker 2: were twenty one point favorites and they played like it.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Well, they have an open date and then we're gonna
- 49:42Speaker 1: find out. Then they go to Georgia. Yeah, okay, so
- 49:45Speaker 1: two weeks they're against Georgia in Georgia.
- 49:48Speaker 7: To me, they won again. They should have lost. But
- 49:51Speaker 7: once again great teams and great good do the championship coach.
- 49:55Speaker 7: So they're going to be better because KB.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Even said that, he said, I felt like I should
- 49:59Speaker 2: apologize because they outplayed us.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know, you got to put a stake
- 50:03Speaker 1: in their heart and then he'll use it to be better,
- 50:05Speaker 1: of course. But and you know what what I what what? Man?
- 50:10Speaker 1: I just appreciated the heck out and when they got behind,
- 50:15Speaker 1: they they came out in the second half and and Kirby,
- 50:19Speaker 1: you knew, you've seen him before in the locker room
- 50:23Speaker 1: and everything else. He's a little bit fiery. He goes,
- 50:26Speaker 1: We're gonna run the football down their throats. And Tennessee's
- 50:29Speaker 1: defense pretty good, right, and their front is pretty good,
- 50:32Speaker 1: and they weren't doing that but they came out with
- 50:35Speaker 1: this purpose and they started doing that and it's like, Okay,
- 50:39Speaker 1: this is Georgia. What Georgia gets on the five yard line,
- 50:43Speaker 1: they're going to score, score ball, right, They're going to
- 50:46Speaker 1: score And they did. You know, that's just their DNA,
- 50:50Speaker 1: and you know, somebody's gonna have to be I'm not
- 50:54Speaker 1: saying Alabama doesn't have a chance, because they do because
- 50:56Speaker 1: they throw the football around pretty well. Georgia was not great,
- 51:00Speaker 1: especially in the first half against that office. I give
- 51:03Speaker 1: Hypel credit for that. I took him to task for
- 51:05Speaker 1: being an idiot and they jumped on set it up.
- 51:08Speaker 1: But but he can coach quarterbacks and he can run
- 51:12Speaker 1: some offense.
- 51:13Speaker 7: And that tempo offense had Georgia on their heels. And
- 51:15Speaker 7: it's hard to get Georgia on their heels, but they did.
- 51:18Speaker 7: And now with the it's tougher to fake injuries, so
- 51:21Speaker 7: tempo works more than it ever has in a while.
- 51:24Speaker 7: But I'm looking forward to see, you know, ten contenders
- 51:28Speaker 7: or possible pretenders. I think the Auburn Oklahoma game is
- 51:31Speaker 7: going to be used.
- 51:32Speaker 2: I just want to ask Brian kellyway thinks about the
- 51:35Speaker 2: LSU offense.
- 51:38Speaker 7: You know, he's always so loud.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Matter answers question, Yes he has the little says he
- 51:43Speaker 1: has sense apologized. Yeah, but you know I've heard him
- 51:47Speaker 1: on fied Bob, you know, and he said, look, I
- 51:51Speaker 1: got to handle it better. He said that was a
- 51:52Speaker 1: good he said. This guy is a good reporter. He said,
- 51:56Speaker 1: I if you want to say something about me, I
- 51:59Speaker 1: will answer their questions. I do answer questions. I don't
- 52:02Speaker 1: mind hard questions. I will answer them. He goes, we
- 52:05Speaker 1: had just won a really emotional game against a pretty
- 52:09Speaker 1: good and Florida played well. I watched that game.
- 52:12Speaker 6: Except for five picks.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Well, I mean defensively, yeah, right, I mean they came
- 52:17Speaker 1: to play. They have not quit on Napier, right they
- 52:20Speaker 1: they not yet. They came to play. And it was
- 52:24Speaker 1: a hard fought game, right. And Nussmeier, who I had
- 52:28Speaker 1: some questions about, if you'll remember you did, he was
- 52:31Speaker 1: not great Saturday night.
- 52:32Speaker 6: He was pretty mediocre.
- 52:34Speaker 1: He was he was pretty mediocre, right, you know.
- 52:38Speaker 2: And that's what the numbers can lie, because he was
- 52:40Speaker 2: seventy three point three is QBR and he was you know,
- 52:43Speaker 2: fifteen to twenty seven.
- 52:44Speaker 1: The numbers can lie, They can lie, right.
- 52:46Speaker 6: I didn't think you know, and I didn't watch much
- 52:48Speaker 6: of that game.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Is that Mark Twain that said there's lies, damn lies
- 52:51Speaker 1: and statistics?
- 52:52Speaker 6: Yeah, and that way he said that's true right on?
- 52:55Speaker 1: Yeah, so true. Yeah. I still think she was good.
- 53:02Speaker 1: I think Nussmeyer will be hopefully, for their sake, will
- 53:06Speaker 1: be better because he went, like Rusty said, mediocre is
- 53:09Speaker 1: a good word for that. I watched Old Miss and
- 53:13Speaker 1: man Arkansas went up and down the field on Old Miss.
- 53:16Speaker 2: You know, before the show ends, and we're getting close here,
- 53:19Speaker 2: so I don't want to go without bringing this up.
- 53:23Speaker 2: You had asked me and Cease both about nil what
- 53:27Speaker 2: it would do to college football. I never imagined how
- 53:32Speaker 2: decimated Washington State would become so quickly. You know, Washington
- 53:38Speaker 2: State had a really good program the team and Oregon
- 53:41Speaker 2: State same thing. Those two Pac twelve schools are are dismal.
- 53:45Speaker 2: Washington State went into Denton this weekend. Yeah, they played
- 53:49Speaker 2: North Texas and they got b fifty nine to ten
- 53:52Speaker 2: and it really wasn't that much.
- 53:54Speaker 7: They got a club team.
- 53:56Speaker 6: It is awful.
- 53:56Speaker 2: And Oregon State went to love it and they got
- 54:00Speaker 2: and I'm like, this is good.
- 54:03Speaker 6: They're going to be a club team.
- 54:05Speaker 1: I don't know if I don't know if you saw
- 54:06Speaker 1: this or not. I had it at four o'clock that
- 54:11Speaker 1: the Texas Tech guy that's that's funding their program. I
- 54:15Speaker 1: can't think of his name right now because I had
- 54:17Speaker 1: it written.
- 54:19Speaker 7: Cody, Cody something.
- 54:22Speaker 6: Shoot.
- 54:23Speaker 1: He wrote an op ed Piecey Campbell. He wrote ap
- 54:28Speaker 1: ed piece for USA Today Today saying, we have got
- 54:33Speaker 1: to have a new governing body for college football. And
- 54:38Speaker 1: he just excoriated the n C double A getting behind
- 54:42Speaker 1: this score Act that they're trying to push through Congress.
- 54:45Speaker 1: He said, it will it will eliminate competition. Basically, he said,
- 54:49Speaker 1: there'll be no more Olympic sports. He said, this is
- 54:51Speaker 1: what they're trying to do. There's a taffa tacit approval
- 54:55Speaker 1: that they will get all their billions of dollars back
- 54:57Speaker 1: and be in control of college athletic in perpetuity. And
- 55:01Speaker 1: we have to put a stop to And it was,
- 55:04Speaker 1: it was, and it was so well written, but he
- 55:07Speaker 1: just smoked the n C double A.
- 55:09Speaker 2: Did you know that Oregon is a thirty five point
- 55:12Speaker 2: favorite against Oregon State this week?
- 55:14Speaker 1: That's a rivalry game.
- 55:16Speaker 6: It yeah, it should be.
- 55:17Speaker 7: It used to be. Once He's gonna all tell.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Me and I'm taking I would pick Organ. I would
- 55:21Speaker 1: pick Organ to cover. Orgon says that bad Organ's pretty
- 55:24Speaker 1: good too, by the way, Yeah, you know, we don't
- 55:27Speaker 1: see them a lot because they're out in the West
- 55:28Speaker 1: and we haven't seen them a lot. They're pretty good.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Speaking of text tech, they got a great game this
- 55:33Speaker 2: week against Utah.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Yes, that's huge game at Utah, huge game in the
- 55:37Speaker 1: Big twelve.
- 55:38Speaker 7: Or two that maybe the top twelve teams in the
- 55:40Speaker 7: other YU hasn't played anybody.
- 55:42Speaker 1: But they're too, they haven't played anybody. Okay, boys, Uh,
- 55:46Speaker 1: y'all have a week.
- 55:50Speaker 7: Off this week too. You aren't thinking a week ago.
- 55:52Speaker 1: I'm talking a couple of days off. But I'll be
- 55:55Speaker 1: here Monday hopefully, all right.
